Abstract Eliminating primary tumor (“roots”) and inhibiting associated‐circulating tumor cells (associated‐CTCs, “seeds”) are vital issues that need to be urgently addressed in cancer therapy. Associated‐CTCs, which include single CTCs, CTC clusters, and CTC–neutrophil clusters, are essential executors in metastasis and the cause of metastasis‐related death in cancer patients. Herein, a “roots and seeds” multipoint costriking nanodevice (GV‐Lipo/sorafenib (SF)/digitoxin (DT)) is developed to eliminate primary tumors and inhibit the spread of associated‐CTCs for enhancing metastasis inhibition and the therapeutic effect on hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). GV‐Lipo/SF/DT eliminates primary tumor cells by the action of SF, thus reducing CTC production at the roots and improving the therapeutic effect on HCC. GV‐Lipo/SF/DT inhibits associated‐CTCs effectively via the enhanced identification and capture effects of glypican‐3 and/or vascular cell adhesion molecule 1 (VCAM1) targeting, dissociating CTC clusters using DT, blocking the formation of CTC–neutrophil clusters using anti‐VCAM1 monoclonal antibody, and killing CTCs with SF. It is successfully verified that GV‐Lipo/SF/DT increases the CTC elimination efficiency in vivo, thus effectively preventing metastasis, and shows enhanced antitumor efficacy in both an H22‐bearing tumor model and orthotopic HCC models. Overall, the “roots and seeds” multipoint costriking strategy may open a new cancer treatment model for the clinic.

The wharf, which was built in the Three Gorges Reservoir of China, is constructed as a layered frame-type structure for adapting to large water level fluctuations that exceed 30 m. These large fluctuations cause the frame-type structure to exhibit a considerably higher number of load case combinations than traditional marine high-piled wharfs. To estimate the most adverse combined internal force and the corresponding unfavourable load case combinations of significant components for multilayered frame-type wharf structures in the Three Gorges Reservoir of China, a high-efficiency algorithm is developed in this study. This algorithm can skilfully transform the computational mode of load case combinations into a matrix operations process by computer programming. By applying the proposed algorithm, the number of load case combinations for eight significant components of frame-type wharf, including piles, columns, beams, braces and berthing components, are resolved to a total of 21 from the original quantity of more than six billion. This high-efficiency algorithm can provide powerful technical support for evaluating the bearing capability of multilayered frame-type wharfs in the Three Gorges Reservoir of China.

X-band weather radar can provide high spatial and temporal resolution data, which is essential to precipitation observation and prediction of mesoscale and microscale weather. However, X-band weather radar is susceptible to precipitation attenuation. This paper presents an X-band attenuation correction method based on the light gradient machine (LightGBM) algorithm (the XACL method), then compares it with the ZH correction method and the ZH-KDP comprehensive correction method. The XACL method was validated using observations from two radars in July 2021, the X-band dual-polarization weather radar at the Shouxian National Climatology Observatory of China (SNCOC), and the S-band dual-polarization weather radar at Hefei. During the rainfall cases on July 2021, the results of the attenuation correction were used for precipitation estimation and verified with the rainfall data from 1204 automatic ground-based meteorological network stations in Anhui Province, China. We found that the XACL method produced a significant correction effect and reduced the anomalous correction phenomenon of the comparison methods. The results show that the average error in precipitation estimation by the XACL method was reduced by 39.88% over 1204 meteorological stations, which is better than the effect of the other two correction methods. Thus, the XACL method proved good local adaptability and provided a new X-band attenuation correction scheme.

Nanosize titanium carbide (TiC) particles were fabricated by microwave heating at 1100 °C for 10 min using carbon and tetrabutyl titanate as raw materials. The as-sintered precursor was prepared using the sol-gel method. The phase composition, morphology and microwave heating behavior of the heated products were investigated. It was found that TiC particles can be synthesized in a closed capsule of SiO _2 with the combined action of high temperature and gaseous products. TiC particles with an average diameter of 50 nm can be synthesized through microwave heating at 1100 °C for 10 min. Higher temperature and longer holding time would lead to re-oxidation and the coalescence of as-formed TiC products. This work demonstrates that this rapid and low-temperature preparation method of nanosize TiC particles has potential application for industrial production.

Methanol crossover is an important factor affecting the performance of direct methanol fuel cells (DMFCs). In this work, a novel membrane electrode assembly (MEA) is designed and prepared by adding a layer of graphene aerogel (GA) between the carbon powder microporous layer and the catalytic layer, which optimizes the methanol transport and improves the output performance of DMFC at high methanol concentrations. Compared to conventional carbon powder, the addition of GA increases the tortuosity of the anode in the through-plane direction; hence, methanol is diluted to a suitable concentration when it reaches the catalyst. The maximum power density of the novel MEA can reach 27.4 mW·cm−2 at a condition of 8 M methanol, which is 234% higher than that of the conventional electrode. The test results of electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) indicate that the addition of GA does not increase the internal resistance of the novel MEA and that the mass transfer resistance at high concentrations is significantly lower. The experimental results indicate that the output performance at high concentration can be significantly improved by adding a GA layer, and its practicability in portable devices can be improved. It also improves the stability of DMFC under long-term testing.

Transition metal carbides (TMCs) are a class of materialswith excellent dielectric properties and thermal stability, which exhibit enormous potential in high temperature electromagnetic wave absorption (EWA). However, the high dielectric constant and electrical conductivity of TMCs usually cause impedance mismatch, and their high density also prevents further practical applications. To solve these problems, the lightweight and impedance matching NbC nanowires (NbCnws) were prepared by using bamboo powder as a carbon source and subsequent carbothermal reduction reaction process. The as-synthesized NbCnws all exhibit a low density of 0.23 g/cm³ and superior EMA performance. It is worth noting that the minimum reflection loss (RLmin) of the sample is -43.03 dB at 5.92 GHz and the corresponding matching thickness is only 3.7 mm when sintering temperature is 1500°C. The excellent electromagnetic wave absorption (EWA) performance is attributed to good impedance matching and strong dielectric loss. Grain yield in rice is a complex trait and it is controlled by a number of quantitative trait loci (QTL). To dissect the genetic basis of rice yield, QTL analysis for nine yield traits was performed using an F2 population containing 190 plants, which was developed from a cross between Youyidao (YYD) and Sanfenhe (SFH), and each plant in the population evaluated with respect to nine yield traits. In this study, the correlations among the nine yield traits were analyzed. The grain yield per plant positively correlated with six yield traits, except for grain length and grain width, and showed the highest correlation coefficient of 0.98 with the number of filled grains per plant. A genetic map containing 133 DNA markers was constructed and it spanned 1831.7 cM throughout 12 chromosomes. A total of 36 QTLs for the yield traits were detected on nine chromosomes, except for the remaining chromosomes 5, 8, and 9. The phenotypic variation was explained by a single QTL that ranged from 6.19% to 36.01%. Furthermore, a major QTL for grain width and weight, qGW2-1, was confirmed to be newly identified and was narrowed down to a relatively smaller interval of about ~2.94-Mb. Collectively, we detected a total of 36 QTLs for yield traits and a major QTL, qGW2-1, was confirmed to control grain weight and width, which laid the foundation for further map-based cloning and molecular design breeding in rice. Abstract Background Chlorine gas (Cl2) exposure remains a public health concern in household, occupational, and transportation accidents around the world. The death rate associated with acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) caused by high concentrations of Cl2 is very high, mainly because the pathogenesis of ARDS remains unclear. Histone H4 has been identified as an important endogenous pro-inflammatory molecule. The present study aimed to examine the pathogenic role of histone H4 in Cl2-induced ARDS. Methods ARDS was induced by Cl2 exposure in male C57BL/6 mice. Circulating histone H4, blood gas, pulmonary edema, endothelial activation, and neutrophil infiltration were measured during acute lung injury (ALI). Histone H4 or anti-H4 antibody was administered through the tail vein 1 h prior to Cl2 exposure to study the pathogenic role of histone H4. Toll-like receptor 2 knock-out (Tlr2-KO) and Tlr4-KO mice were used in conjunction with blocking antibody against TLR1, TLR2, TLR4, or TLR6 to explore the mechanism involved in histone H4-mediated injury. Results Cl2 exposure induced a concentration-dependent ALI. The levels of circulating histone H4 were positively correlated with Cl2 concentrations. Pretreatment with intravenous histone H4 further aggravated lethality rate, blood gas, endothelial activation, and neutrophil infiltration, while anti-H4 antibody showed protective effects. Tlr4 deficiency improved lethality rate, blood gas, and pulmonary edema, and prevented endothelial and neutrophil activation caused by Cl2 exposure. More importantly, Tlr4 gene deletion greatly diminished the effect of histone H4 or anti-H4 antibody observed in wild-type (WT) mice. The impact of Tlr2 on inflammatory injury was not significant. The role of TLRs was also validated by endothelial activation mediated by histone H4 in vitro. Conclusions Circulating histone H4 played a pro-inflammatory role in ARDS caused by Cl2. TLR4 was closely involved in histone H4-mediated inflammatory injury. Therefore, intervention targeting histone H4 is potentially protective.

In this prospective cohort study, we aimed to determine the surgical and adjacent segment changes in paraspinal muscles and facet joints in patients with lumbar spinal stenosis after minimally invasive posterior lumbar interbody fusion (PLIF) using the cortical bone trajectory (CBT) technique. We enrolled 30 consecutive patients who underwent the single-level CBT technique between October 2017 and October 2018. We evaluated preoperative and 1-month, 3-month, 6-month, and 1-year postoperative clinical data including Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) scores and Oswestry Disability Index (ODI). Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) was performed a year after surgery. The erector spinae (ES) muscle area, volume, and fat infiltration (FI) on the surgical and adjacent segments were evaluated using the thresholding method, and the degree of adjacent facet joint degeneration was calculated using the Weishaupt scale. FI rate was graded using the Kjaer method. All patients underwent a 12-month follow-up. The VAS and ODI scores significantly improved after surgery in all patients. No patient showed degeneration of the adjacent facet joints (P>0.05) during the 1-year follow-up postoperation. Background. Pain following orthopedic surgery has always been a critical issue, which caused great distress to the patients. Analgesics in the treatment of postoperative pain following orthopedic surgery have aroused great attention from scholars, and numerous studies have been published in recent years. Bibliometrics could assist scholars in understanding the scope of research topics better, identifying research focuses and key literature, and analyzing the development and trend of analgesics in the treatment of postoperative pain following orthopedic surgery. Methods. Literature data were retrieved from the Science Citation Index Expanded (SCI-E) of Web of Science (WOS) Core collection database. The articles from 1992 to December 2021 on analgesics in the treatment of postoperative pain following orthopedic surgery were recruited. The citation reports including the publication numbers, h-index, total citations, and average citations in terms of authors, organizations, and countries were obtained. Top 20 research directions, funds, and journals with the most publications were charted. The co-authorship relations in the analysis units of authors, organizations, and countries were analyzed by the online bibliometric tool and VOSviewer software. The author’s keywords co-occurrence overlay map was visualized by the VOSviewer software. Results. A total of 406 articles were retrieved from 1992 to December 4th, 2021, with 11,655 times cited, average citations of 28.57 per item, and an h-index of 55. The most high-yield publication year, authors, organizations, countries, research directions, funds, and journals were 2020 (n = 887), Ilfeld BM from University of California San Diego (n = 7), University of California System (n = 21), the USA (n = 178), Anesthesiology (n = 161), National Institutes of Health (NIH), USA, and United States Department of Health Human Services (n = 12), and Anesthesia and Analgesia (n = 29), respectively. Similarly, co-authoring analysis of publications regarding on different analgesics showed that the authors and countries with the most co-authorship strength were Carr Daniel B (total link strength = 6) and the USA (total link strength = 30), respectively. The highest occurrence keywords were “postoperative pain” with 135 occurrences (total link strength = 784). The future research hotspots might be “acute pain,” “outcomes,” “oxycodone,” “total hip,” “replacement,” and “United States.” Conclusion. Analgesics in the treatment of postoperative pain following orthopedic surgery can be observed in this study by employing the online bibliometric tool and VOSviewer software, which established the relationship between the units of analysis. It can provide a meaningful resource with detailed information for orthopedic surgeons who would like to understand the trend in this field better. They can also benefit from the emphasis on citation count to carry out high-level research in the future.

Background: China's accelerating development and increasingly important role in global health engagement create a great demand for global health professionals including international consulting experts. This study reported the detailed development and evaluation of an international consulting training for global health workforce. Methods: Based on Kirkpatrick's model, a mixed-methods approach was used to evaluate the effectiveness of the training. Quantitative and qualitative data on participants' reaction, learning, and application of the learned knowledge and skills were collected by a training evaluation survey at the ending of training and a follow-up interview in three months after the training. Results: Thirty-six participants attended the training and 34 of them completed quantitative investigation. The training satisfaction evaluations were positive, for which participants rated the training program highly and over 90% of them agreed with the usefulness of the training. A series of Sm3+ ions doped Sr3Al2O6 phosphors was successfully synthesized via hydrothermal method. The crystal structure, morphology and luminescent properties of samples were analyzed by X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy and photoluminescence spectra. All the samples took on cubic structure with Pa-3 space group. The Sr3Al2O6:Sm3+ phosphors could be excited by 405 nm and emit orange-red light peaked at 565, 609 and 660 nm. The effect of hydrothermal reaction time on the morphology and luminescent properties of phosphor was investigated. The influence of molar fraction of Sm3+ ions on the emission intensity of samples was studied and it has been found that the optimal dosage is 0.01. The calculated results by the first principle indicated that the Sm3+ ions will easily occupy the symmetric center site (Sr1). The results indicated that the luminescent intensity of Sr3Al2O6:Sm3+ phosphors could be modulated by reaction conditions of hydrothermal method.

Abstract LiNbO3 (LN) crystal has been widely used as a pyroelectric material due to its spontaneous electric polarization, which could be recharged easily and can directly convert heat energy into electricity. LN crystal’s heat-resistant, low-cost, and low dielectric loss properties make it possible for its applications in room-temperature pyroelectric devices and thermal sensors. However, LN crystal suffers from fragility, inflexibility, and other mechanical properties, which limit its suitability for many applications in various fields. In this study, the LN modified flexible pyroelectric films, composed of LN micro-particles, polypropylene (PP) matrix, and multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs), are successfully fabricated. The pyroelectric effects of LN crystal and LN/PP/MWCNT composite films are characterized by monitoring the patterned self-assembly of nanoparticles and the output pyroelectric currents. The excellent pyroelectric properties of the composites have potential applications in energy harvesters or sensors.

This study aimed to compare the effects of bilateral cavernous nerve crushing (BCNC) and bilateral cavernous nerve resection (BCNR) on intracavernous pressure (ICP) and cavernous pathology in rats and to explore the optimal treatment time for the BCNC and BCNR models. Seventy-two male rats aged 12 weeks were randomly divided into three equal groups: Sham (both cavernous nerves exposed only), BCNC (BCN crushed for 2 min), and BCNR (5 mm of BCN resected). Erectile function was then measured at 1 week, 3 weeks, and 5 weeks after nerve injury, and penile tissues were harvested for histological and molecular analyses by immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescence, Western blot, and cytokine array. We found that erectile function parameters including the maximum, area, and slope of ICP/mean arterial pressure (MAP) significantly decreased after BCNR and BCNC at 1 week and 3 weeks. At 5 weeks, no significant differences were observed in ICP/MAP between the BCNC and Sham groups, whereas the ICP/MAP of the BCNR group remained significantly lower than that of the Sham group. After BCNC and BCNR, the amount of neuronal-nitric oxide synthase-positive fibers, smooth muscle cells, and endothelial cells decreased, whereas the amount of collagen III content increased. These pathological changes recovered over time, especially in the BCNC group. Our findings demonstrate that BCNC leads to acute and reversible erectile dysfunction, thus treatment time should be restricted to the first 3 weeks post-BCNC. In contrast, the self-healing ability of the BCNR model is poor, making it more suitable for long-term treatment research.

The polarization moments of S-band dual-polarimetric radar are mainly affected by ground clutter jamming and non-uniform filling (hereinafter called NBF), which cause the application errors for quantitative precipitation estimation. In this paper, an adaptive calculation algorithm is proposed to calculate the specific differential phase. The specific calculation steps are as follows. After the differential phase is unfolded, a preliminary recognition of the meteorological and non-meteorological echo is made using the signal-to-noise ratio or correlation coefficient to distinguish whether NBF is radial or not. The correction of correlation coefficient is then adopted for the NBF radial. Then the Order (9) or Order (25) filtering window is used to smooth the differential phase and interpolate the non-meteorological block. Based on the reflectivity and the corrected correlation coefficient, the specific differential phase is finally calculated by the 9-point or 25-point least square method (LS). The results show that the differential phase fold affects the quality of differential phase data as well as the following calculation. The proposed method can distinguish meteorological and non-meteorological echoes effectively. The correction of NBF radial correlation coefficient can improve the underestimation of correlation coefficient. The combination of Order (9) and Order(25) filter windows can preserve the original trend as well as smoothing the differential phase curve. And the application of 9 points and 25 points LS method promotes the calculated differential phase closely toward real values.

Background: The Identification of Functional Ankle Instability (IdFAI) is a valid and reliable tool to identify chronic ankle instability; however, it was developed in English, thus limiting its usage only to those who can read and write in English. The objectives of our study were to (1) cross-culturally adapt a Chinese (Mandarin) version of the IdFAI and (2) determine the psychometric properties of the Chinese version IdFAI. Methods: The cross-cultural adaptation procedures used by the investigators and translators followed previously published guidelines and included 6 stages: (1) initial translation, (2) synthesis of the translations, (3) back translation, (4) developing the pre-final version for field testing, (5) testing the pre-final version, and (6) finalizing the Chinese version of IdFAI (IdFAI-C). Five psychometric properties of the IdFAI-C were assessed from results of 2 participant groups: bilingual (n = 20) and Chinese (n = 625). Results: A high degree of agreement was found between the English version of IdFAI and IdFAI-C (intra-class correlation2,1 = 0.995). An excellent internal consistency (Cronbach's α = 0.89), test–retest reliability (intra-class correlation2,1 = 0.970), and construct validity (r(625) = 0.67) was also found for the IdFAI-C. In addition, the results of exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis indicated that ankle instability was the only construct measured from the IdFAI. Conclusion: The IdFAI-C is a highly reliable and valid self-report questionnaire that can be used to assess ankle instability. Therefore, we suggest that it can be used to effectively and accurately assess chronic ankle instability in clinical settings for Chinese-speaking individuals. The FY-3E/HIRAS-II (Hyperspectral Infrared Atmospheric Sounder-II), as an infrared hyperspectral instrument onboard the world’s first early morning polar-orbiting satellite, plays a major role in improving the accuracy and timeliness of global numerical weather predictions. In order to assess its observation quality, the geometrically, temporally, and spatially matched scene homogeneous HIRAS-II hyperspectral observations were convolved to the channels corresponding to the Himawari-8/AHI (Advanced Himawari Imager) and FY-3E/MERSI-LL (Medium-Resolution Spectral Imager) imagers from 15 March to 21 April 2022, and their brightness temperature deviation characteristics were statistically calculated in this paper. The results show that the HIRAS-II in-orbit observed brightness temperatures are slightly warmer than the AHI observations in all the matched AHI channels (long wave infrared channel 8 to channel 16) with a mean brightness temperature bias less than 0.65 K. The bias of the atmospheric absorption channel is slightly larger than that of the window channel. A standard deviation less than 0.31 K and a correlation coefficient higher than 0.98 in all channels means that the quality of the observation is satisfactory. The thresholds chosen for the colocation approximation factors (e.g., observation geometry angle, scene uniformity, observation azimuth, and observation time) for matching the HIRAS-II with AHI contribute little and negligible uncertainty to the bias assessment, so the difference between the two observed radiations is considered to be mainly from the systematic bias of the two-instrument measurement. Compared with MERSI-LL window channel 5, the observations of both instruments are very close, with a mean bias of 0.002 K and a standard deviation of 0.31 K. The mean brightness temperature bias (HIRAS-II minus MERSI-LL) of the MERSI-LL water vapor channel 4 is 0.66 K with a standard deviation of 0.22 K. The mean brightness temperature bias of channel 6 and channel 7 is 0.63 K (the standard deviation is 0.36 K) and 0.5 K (the standard deviation is 0.3 K), respectively. The biases of channel 4 are significantly and positively correlated with the target scene temperature, and the biases of channel 6 and 7 show a U-shaped change with the increase in the scene temperature, and the biases are smallest (close to 0 K) when the scene temperature is between 250 K and 280 K. The statistical characteristics of the HIRAS-II–MERSI-LL difference vary minimally and almost constantly over a period of time, indicating that the performance of the HIRAS-II instrument is stable.

This paper presented an innovative method for fabrication of a porous Al2O3/CaAl12O19 ceramic membrane by combining emulsion method, cement curing and tape-casting technologies. The ceramic membrane featured a smooth surface and a porous internal structure. By adjusting the oil–water volume ratio from 1:1 to 4:1, the porosity of the samples increases from 45.6 to 67.3%, density decreases from 2.07 to 1.32 g/cm3 and bending strength decreases from 64.3 ± 1.2 to 31.7 ± 0.6 MPa. More significantly, the membranes showed great gas permeability (1.2 × 107–2.3 × 107 Lm−2 h−1 bar−1), opening up a wide range of applications in the field of gas filtration processes.
