The article reports on solid waste study in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The study reveals that businesses throw away $70 million/year of organics and recyclables. It is estimated that 58 percent of the accumulated trash comes from institutions and businesses. Approximately 75 percent of paper, 90 percent of the organics, and 76 percent of cans and bottles are being recycled by means of landfill and incineration. Greater Philadelphia Commercial Recycling Council commits on the promotion of institutional and commercial recycling.
