Background: Health promoting lifestyle is an important influencing factor of individual health status. This study aims to assess the health promoting lifestyle of community residents in China, and explore its association with their health management intention and behaviors during the integrated healthcare system reform. Methods: A total of 666 residents were recruited from six county level hospitals and 12 community health centers from July to August 2019 in Zhejiang Province, China. Health promoting lifestyle was measured by the Chinese version Health Promoting Lifestyle Profile-II scale (HPLP-II). Results: The average total score of HPLP-II among our sample was 130.02±23.19. Among the six domains, interpersonal relationship had the highest average score (2.68±0.50), and physical activity scored the lowest (2.21±0.59). Total score of HPLP-II scale was negatively associated with being male (β = -0.13, p<0.01; Ref: female), positively associated with being students (β = 0.15, p<0.01; Ref: self-employed), and positively associated with a monthly per capita income of more than 8000 RMB (β = 0.15, p<0.01; Ref: less than 3000 RMB). The domain scores of HPLP-II were significantly correlated with residents' health management intention and their behavior on following doctors' advice or not. Conclusions: The health promoting lifestyles of community residents in China are at moderate levels. Improving residents' healthy lifestyle levels might be helpful for changing their health management intentions or behaviors. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Insect tea is consumed as a health beverage in China. The insect tea primary leaf (ITPL) is rich in bioactive substances, which are also used as traditional Chinese medicine. This study investigated the role of ITPL in reducing the oxidative response induced by D‐galactose in mice. Mice were intraperitoneally injected with D‐galactose to induce oxidative damage. The effect of ITPL was tested by pathological observation, serum detection with kits, quantitative polymerase chain reaction, and Western blot. The experimental results show that ITPL increased the thymus, brain, heart, liver, spleen, and kidney indices of oxidized mice. ITPL increased superoxide dismutase, glutathione peroxidase, and glutathione levels and reduced nitric oxide and malondialdehyde levels in the serum, liver, and spleen in oxidative damaged mice. The pathological observations show that ITPL reduced the oxidative damage of the liver and spleen in mice induced with D‐galactose. Simultaneously, ITPL upregulated mRNA expression of neuronal nitric oxide synthase, endothelial nitric oxide synthase, cuprozinc‐superoxide dismutase, manganese superoxide dismutase, catalase, heme oxygenase‐1, nuclear factor‐erythroid 2 related factor 2, γ‐glutamylcysteine synthetase, and NAD(P)H dehydrogenase [quinone] 1, and downregulated the expression of inducible nitric oxide synthase in the liver and spleen of oxidized mice. ITPL had beneficial preventive effects on the oxidative damage caused by D‐galactose in mice and was more effective as an antioxidant than vitamin C. The component analysis test by high‐performance liquid chromatography indicated that ITPL contained the following seven compounds: neochlorogenic acid, cryptochlorogenic acid, rutin, kaempferin, isochlorogenic acid B, isochlorogenic acid A, and hesperidin. The Malus pumila leaves are used as a kind of tea drink in China, and there are abundant flavonoids in the leaves of Malus pumila. In this study, BALB/c mice received senna extract solution via gavage, which induced acute diarrhea, and the interventive effect of Malus pumila leaf flavonoids (MPLF) was observed. The results showed that MPLF decreased the diarrhea index, and MPLF also decreased the capillary permeability in the abdominal cavity of mice. The result of serum cytokine detection indicated that MPLF decreased the levels of inflammatory cytokines, including interleukin 6 (IL‐6), interleukin 12 (IL‐12), and tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF‐α). The results of quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qPCR) indicated that diarrhea decreased the mRNA and protein expression of aquaporin‐3 (AQP3) in the jejunum and aquaporin‐4 (AQP4) in the ileum, which were inhibited by MPLF. By high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), MPLF mainly contains 10 flavonoids, which are rutin, hyperoside, isoquercitrin, taxifolin, quercitrin, hesperidin, myricetin, baicalin, neohesperidin dihydrochalcone and quercetin, the synergistic effect of these components plays an antidiarrhea role in MPLF. Therefore, MPLF achieved good antidiarrheal effect, which was better than that of the commonly used montmorillonite powder at the same concentration. Background. Water channel proteins, also called aquaporins, are integral membrane proteins from major intrinsic protein (MIP) family and involved in several pathways including not only water transport but also cell signaling, reproduction, and photosynthesis. The full cDNA and protein sequences of aquaporin in Chorispora bungeana Fisch. & C.A. Mey (C. bungeana) are still unknown. Results. In this study, PCR and rapid amplification of cDNA ends approaches were used to clone the full cDNA of LRB7 (GenBank accession number: EU636988) of C. bungeana. Sequence analysis indicated that it was 1235 bp, which had two introns and encoded a protein of 250 amino acids. Structure analysis revealed that the protein had two conserved NPA motifs, one of which is MIP signature sequence (SGxHxNPAVT), six membrane helix regions, and additional membrane-embedded domains. Phylogenetic analysis suggested that the protein was from TIP2 subgroup. Surprisingly, semiquantitative RT-PCR experiment and western blot analysis showed that LRB7 and TIP2 were only detectable in roots, unlike Arabidopsis and Raphanus. Connecting with our previous studies, LRB7 was supported to associate with chilling-tolerance in C. bungeana. Conclusion. This is the first time to characterize the full sequences of LRB7 gene and water channel protein in C. bungeana. Children's eating habits are closely related to their health problems and the outlook for children's nutritional statuses appears poor. A cross-sectional survey was conducted among parents of preschool children from December 2018 to January 2019. Sixteen representative kindergartens in 6 districts of Chongqing, China, were included in the study. We took 2200 samples and collected information by questionnaire and after screening, 1781 questionnaires were valid and finally included in the data analysis (n = 1781). Ordinal logistic regression analysis found that age, fathers' education level, forced diet and perception of children's body shape were factors associated with children's eating behaviors (ordered logistic regression/three-level eating behavior; odds ratios p < 0.05). 80.24% of preschool children may have unhealthy eating behavior in this survey and 80.35% of parents had forced their children to eat. Eating behaviors of preschool children in Chongqing are closely related to family factors. This study provides important insight for parents and health care workers in China to improve preschool-aged children's nutritional behaviors. Intervention programs should focus on parents with low income, low education levels, coercive dietary behaviors and deviated body shape perceptions to reduce children's eating behavioral problems. Background: Baduanjin, a traditional Chinese exercise therapy, has been widely used in China to treat type 2 diabetes (T2DM) with depression (DD). However, the underlying mechanism of Baduanjin in anti-DD is unclear. This study was focused on investigating the effects of Baduanjin on symptoms of depression and blood glucose in patients with DD and the underlying mechanism. Methods: We performed a 12-week Baduanjin intervention on patients with DD and longitudinally compared the differential expressions of lncRNAs, circRNAs, and mRNAs between pre- (BDD) and post- (ADD) Baduanjin intervention in the same group. Subsequently, Gene Ontology (GO) and pathway analysis was performed to investigate the function of differentially expressed mRNAs. Finally, Reverse Transcription-Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-PCR) was used to verify the sequencing result and the mRNA-lncRNA regulatory network was constructed. Results: The blood glucose level, depression index scores, and PHQ9 scores of the patients with DD were significantly decreased (P < 0.05) after Baduanjin intervention. Compared to BDD, 207 lncRNAs, 266 circRNAs, and 610 differentially expressed mRNAs were identified in ADD. Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) and GO showed that the significantly dysregulated mRNAs were mainly involved in immune function and inflammatory response pathways, and various signaling pathways including IL-17 and TNF. In addition, we selected five differentially expressed lncRNAs to construct an lncRNA-mRNA regulatory network, and found a total of 1045 mRNAs associated with them. Conclusions: Our research is the first systematic profiling of mRNA, lncRNA, and circRNA in patients of ADD and BDD, and provides valuable insights in the potential mechanism of Baduanjin in anti-DD. Further, it was confirmed that Baduanjin is a safe and effective intervention for patients with DD because it can effectively ameliorate the symptoms of depression and blood glucose levels in patients with DD by regulating the dysregulated expression of lncRNA, mRNA, and circRNA. The Chronic Care Model (CCM) is a framework that supports the proactive, planned, coordinated and patient-centered care of chronic diseases. The Patient Assessment of Chronic Illness Care (PACIC) scale is a valuable tool for evaluating patients' perspectives on chronic care delivery based on the CCM. Few studies have examined its application in China. This study assesses hypertension care in Chinese patients and explores how PACIC scores relate to patient compliance. A cross-sectional study was conducted in Hangzhou, China, from June to August 2021, including 253 hypertensive patients from 5 county hospitals and 13 primary healthcare centers. The study used the PACIC scale to assess hypertension care delivery and the Compliance of Hypertensive Patients scale (CHPS) to measure patient compliance. Multiple linear regression analyses were used to explore the relationship between demographic characteristics and the total and domain scores of PACIC, as well as the association between CHPS and the domain scores of PACIC. The mean value of overall the PACIC score was 3.12 (out of 5). Problem solving/contextual domain had the highest average score for each item, while follow up/coordination domain had the lowest. Patient activation had negative effects on intention (β = -.18, P  < .05), attitude (β = -.21, P  < .05), responsibility (β = -.17, P  < .05), and the total score of CHPS (β = -.24, P  < .01). Delivery system design/decision support was negatively associated with lifestyle (β = -.21, P  < .05) and the total score of CHPS (β = -.26, P  < .01). Hypertensive patients perceived that they sometimes received hypertension care consistent with the CCM in Chinese primary healthcare settings. Objective: To explore effective factors of surgical effect for patients with cleft lip and palate, and to construct the predictive model of surgical effect, which provide reference for improving the effect of cleft lip and palate surgery., Methods: This study has been ethically reviewed and approved by the Medical Ethics Committee of Guiyang Stomatological Hospital before the study began.A total of 997 cases of cleft lip and palate surgical treatment in Guiyang Stomatological Hospital from 2015 to 2020 were collected. Logistic regression analysis was used to analyze the factors influencing the surgical outcome, and a score system was established by assigning values to the influencing factors using the nomogram. Data of 110 patients were verified, and decision curve analysis was used to evaluate the predicted results., Results: Logistic regression analysis showed that the number of surgeries, surgical methods, breast milk, prenatal examination, nutrition during pregnancy and labor intensity during pregnancy were independent risk factors for poor surgical results (all P<0.05). The predictive model was built by including the number of surgeries, surgical methods, breast milk, prenatal examination, nutrition and labor intensity during pregnancy into the predictive scoring system. The critical value was 273, the area under ROC curve (AUC) was 0.733(95%CI:0.704~0.76), the sensitivity was 89.57%, and the specificity was 48.14%.When the external validation data of 110 patients were brought into the score, the AUC of poor diagnostic value reached 74.5%, P<0.05, which was close to the modeling accuracy of 73.3%., Conclusion: This study constructed a predictive model of surgical effect for patients with cleft lip and palate, which can be used for the clinical prediction of cleft lip and palate patients in Guizhou Province., Competing Interests: The authors have declared that no competing interests exist., (Copyright: © 2023 Liu et al. Introduction: Hypertension is a growing public health concern worldwide. It is a leading risk factor for all-cause mortality and may lead to complications such as cardiovascular disease, stroke, and kidney failure. Poor compliance of hypertensive patients is one of the major barriers to controlling high blood pressure. Compliance is not ideal among Chinese patients, and increasing patient self-care compliance with hypertension is necessary., Methods: This article analyzes the status of self-care compliance, trust, and satisfaction among Chinese hypertensive patients using cross-sectional data from Zhejiang Province. We use a multi-group structural equation model (MGSEM) to compare the interrelationships across genders., Results: The study's findings show that the average trust, satisfaction, and compliance scores are 3.92 ± 0.55, 3.98 ± 0.61, and 3.33 ± 0.41, respectively. Female patients exhibit higher average total scores for trust and compliance than male patients. The SEM results indicate that trust has a direct positive association with compliance [β = 0.242, 95% CI: (0.068, 0.402)] and satisfaction [β = 0.260, 95% CI: (0.145, 0.367)], while their satisfaction is not directly associated with compliance. The results of MGSEM show that trust has an indirect effect on compliance in the male group through satisfaction [β = 0.051, P < 0.05, 95% CI: (0.012, 0.116)]. In the female group, trust has a direct effect on satisfaction [β = 0.235, P < 0.05, 95% CI: (0.041, 0.406)] and compliance [β = 0.319, P < 0.01, 95% CI: (0.086, 0.574)]., Discussion: This study reveals the mechanisms of self-care compliance, trust, and satisfaction among Chinese hypertensive patients. Background: Smoking and secondhand smoke (SHS) exposure rates are much higher in China than in other countries. A smoke-free policy was implemented in Xi'an, a city in Shaanxi Province, China, on November 1, 2018. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of the smoke-free policy on changes in hospital admissions for acute ischemic heart disease (AIHD) and stroke in Xi'an., Methods: All subjects had been hospitalized for AIHD or stroke from February 9, 2017 to December 25, 2019 (study period: 150 weeks) in six randomly selected public hospitals out of 36 tertiary hospitals in Xi'an. A generalized additive model developed using an interrupted time series design was used to compare immediate and annual percent changes in hospital admissions before and after policy implementation., Results: The study included 31,400 cases (16,656 cases of AIHD and 14,744 cases of stroke) from 6 hospitals in Xi'an. Immediately after implementation of the smoke-free policy, AIHD admissions were reduced significantly (-31.66%, 95% CI: - 39.45 to -22.86%), but stroke admissions were not (-4.94%, 95% CI: -13.26 to 4.17%). The annual reduction in stroke-related admissions (-14.54%, 95% CI: -23.53 to -4.49%) and the annual increase in AIHD-related admissions (40.58%, 95% CI: 22.08 to 61.87%) were significant. Although there was no significant reduction in AIHD admissions, stroke admissions were significantly reduced by -15.73% (from 7,350 to 6,194) after implementation of the smoke-free policy in Xi'an., Conclusion: The smoke-free policy had different effects on hospital admissions for AIHD and stroke in Xi'an. Xi'an should improve its smoke-free legislation and expand the measures to maintain or achieve additional significant health benefits. Background: Understanding the levels of health literacy among different groups is essential for better public health interventions targeting specific subgroups of the population. Additionally, this article explores the prevalence and influencing factors of the health literacy levels of different age groups during the COVID-19 epidemic. Methods: Multistage stratified cluster random sampling and the Probability Proportion to Size (PPS) method were used to select permanent residents aged 15-69 in Chongqing (54,706) for the questionnaire survey. The survey period is from July 2019 and July 2020. Single-factor analysis and logistic regression models were used to study the relationship between demographics, socioeconomic factors, other independent covariates, and health literacy. Results: The health literacy levels of residents declined with age, and there were significant differences in health literacy levels between age groups (χ 2 = 3332.884, P < 0.05). As far as the factors affecting health literacy level are concerned, high education and high income are the protective factors for health literacy level for residents of all ages. For adolescents (OR = 1.383, 95% CI: 1.217-1.571), young adults (OR = 1.232, 95% CI = 1.117-1.358), and middle-aged people (OR = 1.096, 95% CI = 1.017-1.182), residence in rural areas was a protective factor. In terms of the dimensions of health literacy, in particular, elderly health literacy in 2020 in Scientific Health Concepts, Safety and First Aid, Basic Medical Care decreased significantly compared with 2019. Conclusions: For adolescents, young adults, middle-aged people, to solve the problem of urban and rural health quality gap, we should not only use the geographical division, but also consider the social population and socio-economic differences. For the elderly, the following four dimensions of health literacy need to be paid more attention than those of other age: Basic Knowledge and Concepts, Scientific Health Concepts, Safety and First Aid, and Basic Medical Care. A lack of knowledge on the prevention and treatment of chronic diseases is the main reason for the recent decline in health literacy. Burnout has been commonly observed in health care workers. Though research has been conducted involving burnout among doctors in China, few studies have focused on residents during standardized residency training (SRT). The professional status of the residents during SRT remains largely unclear. The present study was conducted in order to clarify the prevalence and potential risk factors of burnout in residents during SRT.An electronic questionnaire comprised 2 parts. The first part was designed to collect some basic characteristic information. Maslach Burnout Inventory-Human Services Survey was included in the second part.As many as 71.05% residents had at least 1 scale of burnout. Emotional exhaustion (EE) was found in 55.6% residents, depersonalization (DP) in 29.7% and reduced personal accomplishment (RPA) in 41.6%. Being older than 27, senior SRT year, working time more than 60 hours per week and poor sleeping quality was independently associated with at least on scale of burnout. Being unable to receive timely supervisor support significantly increased the probability of DP and EE. Not having friends at work or feeling cared for by the hospital were independently related to all 3 symptoms of burnout as well as overall burnout.Burnout rate is high in residents under SRT from middle part of China. Organizational, professional, and social support was demonstrated critical by the potential roles in protecting against burnout. Residents with burnout were prone to considering turnover. Strategies for managing burnout related factors among residents should be focused in future studies.

Occupational exposure remains a serious problem for medical staff, especially those working in operation rooms. Hepatitis B virus (HBV) is prevalent in patients undergoing surgery, and anesthesiologists are at risk of occupational acquisition of blood-borne HBV infection. To the best of our knowledge, there are no data about HBV prevalence and vaccinations, as well as attitudes toward sharp injuries and gloving among anesthesiologists in China, where the HBV prevalence is high. To clarify these, the present study was conducted.An electronic questionnaire including HBV markers, gloving during practice, and reporting patterns of sharp injuries was created and sent to anesthesiologists.After excluding 10 uncompleted questionnaires, 1739 questionnaires were included in the final analysis. Of all analyzed anesthesiologists, 1599 (91.9%) had experienced sharp injuries, and 1313 (75.5%) had experienced >1 sharp injury. Considering HBV vaccination histories, 1381 anesthesiologists (79.4%) received 3 vaccination doses, and only half of the immunized anesthesiologists received reminder HBV vaccination doses after work before exposure. There were 696 anesthesiologists (40.0% of all participants) who were ever exposed to HBV, and nearly two-thirds of them (440) were exposed to HBV more than once. There was a more positive attitude toward gloving and double-gloving to reduce HBV exposure.The incidence of occupational HBV exposure among anesthesiologists is high, and its threat should be considered. HBV vaccinations and adherence to postexposure guidelines are recommended. The high prevalence of sharp injuries during anesthesia practice highlights the importance of safe anesthesia practices, such as gloving or double-gloving, especially when in contact with high-risk body fluids.
