The article provides a guide to reference books in the sociology of religion, which should make it easier for sociologists and scholars in religious studies to locate information about the sociology of religion. A major gap in the reference sources available to sociologists of religion is the complete absence of any service which keeps track of limited circulation research reports which are prepared for local churches, regional judicatories, or national denominations. Some of these reports contain information, which would be useful for social scientists. The books related to Collections of Review Essays contain review articles, which summarize the current state of scholarly opinion in particular, areas of inquiry. The Society for the Scientific Study of Religion has been associated with four collections of review essays. One of the authors provides review essays about religious development and the psychology of religion as well as the sociology of religion. It has acquired the Elsevier's Social Science book series and text/reference book publishing programme. This article focuses on the report on the project of the encyclopedia of the social sciences. It was not until the end of April of this year that the acceptance of the plan was authorized by all of the associations involved. This left only the month of May in which to begin the financial campaign before the summer vacation. This campaign was at once undertaken and was renewed with the opening of the academic year so that in all there have been three months of steady work devoted to the proposition. Furthermore, inasmuch as it is not improbable that the fund may be entirely completed during the next few months, it is of the highest importance that each association constitute its representatives to act as a permanent committee, charged with the responsible duty of overseeing the activities of the executive committee in working out the details of the plan and putting it into operation, in the event that the project becomes assured. This involves not only the elaboration of a series of important financial contracts hut, what is of far greater significance, the final decision as to the methods, contents, and details of the encyclopedia itself.
