This study analyses gender distribution on editorial boards of journals in the Sport Sciences category included in Journal Citation Reports (JCR). As far as we know, this study provides the first measure of gender distribution on editorial boards in Sport Sciences. A database consisting of 4,596 editors of journals in the Sport Sciences category was collected. The gender of these editors is inferred based on their first name using the package Gender data included in the statistical software R. This article found that 23% of the 4,596 editor ships are held by women. This proportion decreases to 10% if we focus on the most important editor of the journal, the so-called Editor in Chief (EiC). However, having a woman EiC is positively correlated with the presence of women on editorial boards. No significant correlation between the impact factor of the journal and the proportion of women editors on its editorial board was found. Introduction: Our goal in this study was to determine female representation on editorial boards of high-ranking emergency medicine (EM) journals. In addition, we examined factors associated with gender disparity, including board members' academic rank, departmental leadership position, h-index, total publications, total citations, and total publishing years. Methods: In this retrospective study, we examined EM editorial boards with an impact factor of 1 or greater according to the Clarivate Journal Citations Report for a total of 16 journals. All board members with a doctor of medicine or doctor of osteopathic medicine degree, or international equivalent were included, resulting in 781 included board members. We analyzed board members' gender, academic rank, departmental leadership position, h-index, total publications, total citations, and total publishing years. Results: Gender disparity was clearly notable, with men holding 87.3% (682/781) of physician editorial board positions and women holding 12.7% (99/781) of positions. Only 6.6% (1/15) of included editorial board chiefs were women. Male editorial board members possessed higher h-indices, total citations, and more publishing years than their female counterparts. Male board members held a greater number of departmental leadership positions, as well as higher academic ranks. Conclusion: Significant gender disparity exists on EM editorial boards. Substantial inequalities between men and women board members exist in both the academic and departmental realms. Every researcher wants their research to gain more recognition, and this desire is achieved by publishing their article in a journal with higher impact. It is very important to get researchers interested in the Journal of Korean Neurosurgical Society (JKNS). Therefore, the first goal was to promote the publication of papers in our journal. To do this, a table of contents was sent out, and the citation ranking was announced every 2 months. Several efforts have been made to publish good papers. Foreign speakers, who were invited to a conference hosted by the Korean Neurosurgical Society were contacted and politely requested to write a paper addressing their recent research. Domestic and international researchers highly renowned in their fields were also contacted to submit their novel works to our journal. The journal impact factor of our journal has continued to rise for the last 3 years and reached 1.376 in 2019. It can be said that the JKNS is now competitive with other international neurosurgery journals. These achievements were not due to the efforts of the editorial boards alone. This was because our society members have submitted very good papers, and because many of our members have cited the papers published in our journal. We believe that this will continue in the future. The social sciences, including management, are at a crossroads. Globally, scholars are increasingly pressured to publish in top journals, compelling editorial boards to recruit more individuals--including those with less experience--to meet the demand. Furthermore, the validity of the social sciences is under scrutiny in light of ethical violations, article retractions, and calls for more relevant research. At the epicenter of this conundrum lie journal editors, those who adjudicate the quality and potential of submitted research. With these issues as backdrop, we report an inductive study of how journal editors come to understand the notion of theoretical contribution. Working with a data set of editorial decision letters and interviews with editors at two top management journals, we provide critical insight into how new editors, despite not yet having the requisite experience or knowledge to make expert judgments, experience being labeled experts by their scholarly community--a phenomenon we label "novice experts." We find that the process of making sense of theoretical contribution differs for novice experts than for those with more experience. Given the rise in less experienced editors, our data suggest that now is the time to rethink the hows and whys of knowledge dissemination at the heart of our profession. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Considerable efforts and resources are invested by scholarly publishers to advance and promote their journals. These efforts take the form of strategic planning and employed content and publisher editors who provide preprint and post-print assistance to editorial boards, to enhance discoverability and viewership of their journals. However, the effects of these investments are not evaluated, as most assess journals as standalone entities often based on citation metrics. This work aims to quantify the competence of scholarly publishers using a novel metric. The proposed metric, coined as scholarly engagement, is based on a citation-to-view ratio (CVR) garnered by the journals' articles. The selection of journals takes into consideration broad spectra of journal position across different categories, ranks and timeline. The evaluation uses more than 298,000 articles published in the past ten years. Objectives: In the first issue of 2016 of the Korean Journal of Child Studies (KJCS), development strategies were proposed. It aimed to examine the changes made in response to each proposal and to suggest steps for further improvement. Methods: Changes in the characteristics and status of the journal from 2016 to 2020 were described, and new suggestions for further development strategies were proposed. Therefore, this article is a follow-up study of past data. Results: Among the development strategies proposed in 2016, the following aspects improved: specific aims and scope, official ISO abbreviations, open access declarations, international-level layout, manuscript editing, detailed instructions to authors, and digital standards including Journal Article Tag Suite XML. However, further improvements remain to be made with regard to changing the journal title, obtaining permission to use others' measurement tools, requiring statements of institutional review board (IRB) approval and informed consent, ensuring the long-term tenure of an editor-in-chief, and internationalizing the editorial board membership. The 2015 Web of Science impact factor was calculated as 0.009, while that of 2019 was 0.04. In contrast, the number of cites per 2 years in Scopus rose from 0.03 in 2015 to 0.07 in 2019. Conclusion: The above results showed that digital standards have been implemented perfectly. However, articles should specify whether permission was received to use measurement tools and whether IRB approval and informed consent were obtained. The language is recommended to be changed to English to broaden the readership and to increase citation frequency by other international journals. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The ARRIVE guidelines have been implemented in BJP for 4 years with the aim of increasing transparency in reporting experiments involving animals. BJP has assessed our success in implementing them and concluded that we could do better.
