A disposable gas-sensing paper-based device (gPAD) was fabricated in origami design which integrates the gas adsorbent and the electrochemical detection zone in a single device. The gPAD for the determination of NOx gas uses a screen-printed graphene electrode modified with copper nanoparticles (CuNP/SPGE) to achieve high sensitivity and selectivity. The gPAD detects both, NO and NO 2 (as NOx) with same current responses. The measurement could be performed directly through differential pulse voltammetry (DPV) with a detection limit as low as 0.23 vppm and 0.03 vppm with exposure times of 25 min and 1 h, respectively. The reproducibility in terms of relative standard deviation was less than 5.1% (n = 7 devices) at 25, 75 and 125 vppm NO 2 and the life-time of this device was more than 30 days. The gPAD was applied to detect NOx in air and exhaust gases from cars. In comparison with spectrophotometry, there are no significant differences between both methods using a paired t-test of the results on a 95% confidence level. We report the development of a new type of flexible electrochemical biosensors based on graphene paper loaded with closely-packed Au@Pt core-shell nanoparticles as a freestanding cell culture substrate for real-time monitoring cell secretion of nitric oxide. The hybrid electrode was fabricated through a modular approach in which 2D-assembly of nanoparticles formed at the oil-water interface was transferred onto graphene paper by dip-coating. We have shown that the independently optimized metal nanostructures and graphene paper were integrated into functional electrodes with high electrocatalytic activity. When used for the detection of nitric oxide, the flexible electrodes have demonstrated high sensitivity, a wide linear range, and a low detection limit, which, in combination with its biocompatibility, offer unique opportunities for the real-time monitoring of nitric oxide secretion by human endothelial vein cells grown on the electrode. The catastrophic effects of opioids use on public health and the economy are documented clearly in numerous studies. Repeated morphine administration can lead to either a decrease (tolerance) or an increase (sensitization) in its behavioral and rewarding effects. Morphine-induced sensitization is a major problem and plays an important role in abuse of the opioid drugs. Studies reported that morphine may exert its effects by the release of nitric oxide (NO). NO is a potent neuromodulator, which is produced by nitric oxide synthase (NOS). However, the exact role of NO in the opioid-induced sensitization is unknown. In this study, we reviewed the role of NO on opioid-induced sensitization in 2 important, rewarding regions of the brain: nucleus accumbens and ventral tegmentum. In addition, we focused on the contribution of NO on opioid-induced sensitization in the limbic system.

The aim of the study was to investigate whether measurement of nitric oxide in exhaled air could be used for assessing the effects of irritants on the respiratory system, in this case recurrent ozone gassing in an occupational setting. The study population comprised bleachery workers (n=56) from a Swedish pulpmill carrying out ozone-based pulp bleaching since 1992 and controls (n=39). Both groups were investigated by measuring NO in exhaled air, methacholine challenge test and answers to a questionnaire concerning history of respiratory symptoms and accidental exposure to ozone peaks. There was no significant difference in NO output between exposed subjects and controls (median 67.2 versus 55.0 nL x min(-1), p=0.64). However, among bleachery workers reporting ozone gassings, the median NO output was 90.0 nL x min(-1) compared to 58.8 nL x min(-1) among those not reporting such incidents (p=0.019). There was no relation between exhaled NO and the prevalence of respiratory symptoms or bronchial hyperresponsiveness. In a multiple regression model, only reported ozone gassings were associated (p=0.016) with NO output. The results indicate an association between previous response to ozone gassing and nitric oxide output. The increased nitric oxide output among the bleachery workers reporting peak ozone exposure may indicate that chronic airway inflammation is present. Further studies are needed to evaluate the extent to which nitric oxide can be used for biological monitoring of respiratory health effects, and to relate it to other markers of airway inflammation.

Introduction: For centuries, cannabinoids are known to be effective in pain relief. Itch is an unpleasant sensation that provokes a desire to scratch. Since itch and pain are two sensations sharing a lot in common, we aimed to investigate whether the cannabinoid agonist WIN 55,212-2 reduces serotonin-induced scratching behavior and also observe whether modulation of Nitric Oxide (NO) production mediates the antipruritic effect of WIN 55,212-2. Methods: Scratching behavior is induced by intradermal injection of serotonin (50 µg/50 µL/mouse) to BALB/c mice. The cannabinoid agonist WIN 55,212-2 (1, 3, 10 mg/kg, IP) was given 30 min before serotonin injection. To observe the effect of NO modulation on the antipruritic effect of cannabinoids, the endothelial nitric oxide synthase (NOS) inhibitor L-NAME (3 mg/kg, IP), the neuronal NOS inhibitor 7-nitroindazole (3 mg/kg, IP), and the NO precursor L-arginine (100 mg/kg, IP) were administered together with WIN 55,212-2. Results: WIN 55,212-2 reduced serotonin-induced scratches at higher doses (3, 10 mg/kg; P<0.0001). The endothelial NOS inhibitor L-NAME, the neuronal NOS inhibitor 7-nitroindazole, and the nitric oxide precursor L-arginine did not influence the antipruritic action of WIN 55,212-2. When NO modulators were used alone, only the neuronal NOS inhibitor 7-nitroindazole attenuated serotonin-induced scratches (P<0.0001). Conclusion: Our findings indicate that exogenous cannabinoids may attenuate serotonininduced scratches and NO does not mediate the antipruritic effect of WIN 55,212-2. Titanium dioxide is frequently used for the photocatalytic degradation of organic and inorganic pollutants present in the air, such as NOx. In this work, biomorphic anatase-based plates were manufactured using paper as an innovative template for fixation of TiO 2 . Ceramics with microstructure similar to paper were produced by infiltration of titanium isopropoxide (TTiP) and dopants, followed by hydrolysis in NH 4 OH, air drying, and calcination at temperatures up to 1000 °C. After heat treatment, the samples were characterized by XRD, TG/DTA, BET, EPR, and SEM. Anatase was obtained as the major phase at 800 °C and remained present up to 1000 °C. In tests of photocatalytic efficiency of produced plates for degradation of NO x gases, the best performance was obtained with a biomorphic anatase-based plate prepared using TTiP doped with 5% Zr 4+ , corresponding to 100% degradation of NO x in 35 min. Pt/Al2O3 catalyst powder was successfully incorporated in a microstructured paper-like matrix composed of a ceramic fiber network, by use of a simple papermaking technique. As-prepared composite, denoted paper-structured catalyst, was applied to the reduction of nitrogen oxide (NO X) in the presence of propene, for exhaust gas purification. The paper-structured catalyst demonstrated higher NO X reduction efficiency and more rapid thermal responsiveness than a conventional Pt-loaded honeycomb catalyst, indicating that the paper-like structure with interconnected pore spaces contributes to effective transport of heat and reactants to the catalyst surfaces. Furthermore, the paper-structured catalyst with the appearance of flexible paperboard has a high degree of utility. The efficiency of utilization of Pt catalyst was improved by using hierarchically assembled paper-structured catalysts with preferential location of Pt catalyst in the upper part. Nitric oxide (NO) and reactive oxygen species (ROS) embody excellent potential in cancer therapy. However, as a small molecule, their targeted delivery and precise, controllable release are urgently needed to achieve accurate cancer therapy. In this paper, a novel US-responsive bifunctional molecule (SD) and hyaluronic acid-modified MnO 2 nanocarrier was developed, and a US-responsive NO and ROS controlled released nanoplatform was constructed. US can trigger SD to release ROS and NO simultaneously at the tumor site. Thus, SD served as acoustic sensitizer for sonodynamic therapy and NO donor for gas therapy. In the tumor microenvironment, the MnO 2 nanocarrier can effectively deplete the highly expressed GSH, and the released Mn 2+ can make H 2 O 2 to produce . OH by Fenton-like reaction, which exhibited a strong chemodynamic effect. The high concentration of ROS and NO in cancer cell can induce cancer cell apoptosis ultimately. In addition, toxic ONOO - , which was generated by the reaction of NO and ROS, can effectively cause mitochondrial dysfunction, which induced the apoptosis of tumor cells. The 131 I was labeled on the nanoplatform, which exhibited internal radiation therapy for tumor therapy. Nitric oxide (NO) plays an important role in multiple physiological processes of the body involved in regulation, such as cardiovascular relaxation, neural homeostasis, and immune regulation, etc. The real-time monitoring of NO is of great significance in the investigation of related disease mechanisms and the evaluation of pharmacodynamics. Fluorescent probes are considered as a highly promising approach for pharmaceutical analysis and bioimaging due to their non-invasive character, real-time detection, and high sensitivity. However, there are still some challenges in the determination of biological nitric oxide with fluorescent probes, such as low anti-interference ability, poor function modifiability, and low organ specificity. Nondestructive penetration of the blood-brain barrier (BBB) to specifically prevent iron deposition and the generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) shows great potential for treating Parkinson's disease (PD). However, effective agents with distinct mechanisms of action remain scarce. Herein, a N-doping carbon dot (CD) emitting red light was prepared, which can sacrifice ROS and produce nitric oxide (NO) owing to its surface N-involved groups conjugated to the sp 2 -hybrided π-system. Meanwhile, CD can chelate iron ions, thus depressing the catalytic Fe cycle and *OH detaching to inhibit the Fenton reaction. By modifying lactoferrin (Lf) via polyethylene glycol (PEG), the resulting CD-PEG-Lf (CPL) can nondestructively cross the BBB, targeting the dopaminergic neurons via both NO-mediated reversible BBB opening and Lf receptor-mediated transportation. Accordingly, it can serve as an antioxidant, reducing oxidative stress via its unique iron chelation, free radical sacrificing, and synergy with iron reflux prevention originating from Lf. Thus, it can significantly reduce brain inflammation and improve the behavioral performance of PD mice. Additionally, CPL can image the PD via its red fluorescence. Autophagy is an essential degradative process that governs the renewal of organelle and maintains the homeostasis of cellular microenvironment. Its dysregulation has been demonstrated to be an indicator for neuroinflammation. To elucidate the interrelationship between neuroinflammation and autophagy, optical probes are ideal tools as they offer a number of advantages such as high spatiotemporal resolution and non-invasive sensing, which help to visualize the physiological and pathological functions of interested analytes. However, single autophagy parameter-response probes may generate false-positive results since they cannot distinguish between neuroinflammation and other autophagic stimuli. In contrast, chemosensors that respond to two (or more) targets can improve selectivity by qualifying response conditions. Herein, a "dual-key-and-lock" strategy was applied to construct probe (Vis-NO) to selectively recognize autophagy under inflammation out of other stimuli. The red fluorescence of Vis-NO was lit up only in the simultaneously presence of high viscosity and nitric oxide (NO) in lysosome. A total of 37 characteristic terpenylated coumarins (1-25), including 17 undescribed compounds (1-5, 6a/6b, 7-10, 11a/11b-13a/13b), have been isolated from the root of Ferula ferulaeoides. Meanwhile, twelve pairs of enantiomers (6a/6b, 11a/11b-15a/15b, 17a/17b, 18a/18b, 20a/20b-22a/22b, and 25a/25b) were chirally purified. The structures of these new compounds were elucidated using HRESIMS, UV, NMR, and calculated 13 C NMR with a custom DP4 + analysis. The absolute configurations of all the compounds were determined for the first time using electronic circular dichroism (ECD). Then, their inhibitory effects on nitric oxide (NO) production were evaluated with LPS-induced BV-2 microglia. Compared with the positive control minocycline (IC 50  = 59.3 μM), ferulaferone B (2) exhibited stronger inhibitory potency with an IC 50 value of 12.4 μM. Pyrogallol, a botanical hydrolysable tannin, has diverse medical and industrial applications. Its impact on aquatic ecosystems and fish health has been previously studied, revealing histopathological, immunological, biochemical, and haematological alterations in African catfish (Clarias gariepinus). In this study, the neurotoxic potential of pyrogallol was assessed through a 15-day exposure of catfish to concentrations of 1, 5, or 10 mg/L. Enzyme activities such as acetylcholinesterase (AchE), monoamine oxidase (MAO), aldehyde oxidase (AO), and nitric oxide (NO) were measured in serum and brain, along with histopathological examinations in the brain and heart. Pyrogallol exposure led to decreased AchE activity in the brain and serum, increased serum MAO activity, elevated AO in both brain and serum, and suppressed NO levels. Morphological abnormalities and dose-dependent pathological alterations were observed in the brain and heart, including neuropile deformities, shrunken Purkinje cells, cardiomyocyte degeneration, and increased collagen fibers. Activation of inflammation is tightly associated with metabolic reprogramming in macrophages. The iron-containing tetrapyrrole heme can induce pro-oxidant and pro-inflammatory effects in murine macrophages, but has been associated with polarization towards an anti-inflammatory phenotype in human macrophages. In the current study, we compared the regulatory responses to heme and the prototypical Toll-like receptor (TLR)4 ligand lipopolysaccharide (LPS) in human and mouse macrophages with a particular focus on alterations of cellular bioenergetics. In human macrophages, bulk RNA-sequencing analysis indicated that heme led to an anti-inflammatory transcriptional profile, whereas LPS induced a classical pro-inflammatory gene response. Co-stimulation of heme with LPS caused opposing regulatory patterns of inflammatory activation and cellular bioenergetics in human and mouse macrophages. Specifically, in LPS-stimulated murine, but not human macrophages, heme led to a marked suppression of oxidative phosphorylation and an up-regulation of glycolysis. The species-specific alterations in cellular bioenergetics and inflammatory responses to heme were critically dependent on the availability of nitric oxide (NO) that is generated in inflammatory mouse, but not human macrophages. Accordingly, studies with an inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) inhibitor in mouse, and a pharmacological NO donor in human macrophages, reveal that NO is responsible for the opposing effects of heme in these cells. The regenerative microenvironment after peripheral nerve injury is imbalanced and difficult to rebalance, which is mainly affected by inflammation, oxidative stress, and inadequate blood supply. The difficulty in remodeling the nerve regeneration microenvironment is the main reason for slow nerve regeneration. Traditional drug treatments have certain limitations, such as difficulty in penetrating the blood-nerve barrier and lack of pleiotropic effects. Therefore, there is an urgent need to build multifunctional nerve grafts that can effectively regulate the regenerative microenvironment and promote nerve regeneration. Nitric oxide (NO), a highly effective gas transmitter with diatomic radicals, is an important regulator of axonal growth and migration, synaptic plasticity, proliferation of neural precursor cells, and neuronal survival. Moreover, NO provides potential anti-inflammation, anti-oxidation, and blood vessel promotion applications. However, excess NO may cause cell death and neuroinflammatory cell damage. The prerequisite for NO treatment of peripheral nerve injury is that it is gradually released over time. In this study, we constructed an injectable NO slow-release system with two main components, including macromolecular NO donor nanoparticles (mPEG-P(MSNO-EG) nanoparticles, NO-NPs) and a carrier for the nanoparticles, mPEG-PA-PP injectable temperature-sensitive hydrogel. Due to the multiple physiological regulation of NO and better physiological barrier penetration, the conduit effectively regulates the inflammatory response and oxidative stress of damaged peripheral nerves, promotes nerve vascularization, and nerve regeneration and docking, accelerating the nerve regeneration process. STATEMENT OF SIGNIFICANCE: The slow regeneration speed of peripheral nerves is mainly due to the destruction of the regeneration microenvironment. Neural conduits with drug delivery capabilities have the potential to improve the microenvironment of nerve regeneration. However, traditional drugs are hindered by the blood nerve barrier and cannot effectively target the injured area. Wound infection of hyperglycemic patient often has extended healing period and increased probability due to the high glucose level. However, achieving precise and safe therapy of the hyperglycemic wound with specific wound microenvironment (WME) remains a major challenge. Herein, a WME-activated smart L-Arg/GOx@TA-Fe (LGTF) nanozymatic system composed of generally recognized as safe (GRAS) compound is engineered. The nanozymatic system combining metal-polyphenol nanozyme (tannic acid-Fe 3+ , TA-Fe) and natural enzyme (glucose oxidase, GOx) can consume the high-concentration glucose, generating reactive oxygen species (ROS) and nitric oxide (NO) in situ to synergistically disinfect hyperglycemia wound. In addition, glucose consumption and gluconic acid generation can lower glucose level to promote wound healing and reduce the pH of WME to enhance the catalytic activities of the LGTF nanozymatic system. Thereby, low-dose LGTF can perform remarkable synergistic disinfection and healing effect towards hyperglycemic wound. Exposure to fine particulate matter (PM 2.5 ) is a significant concern for respiratory health. However, the sources, trigger points, and effect size of specific associations between PM 2.5 components, particularly polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) and the airway inflammatory marker fractional exhaled nitric oxide (FeNO) have not been fully explored. In this study, 69 healthy college students were enrolled and followed up 16 times from 2014 to 2018. Individual FeNO was measured and ambient air PM 2.5 samples were collected for 7 consecutive days before each follow-up. PAHs were quantified using Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry. Linear mixed-effect regression models were employed to evaluate the associations between PM 2.5 -bound PAHs and FeNO. Additionally, PMF (Positive Matrix Factorization) was utilized to identify sources of PM 2.5 -bound PAHs and assess their impact on FeNO. Throughout the study, the average (SD) of ΣPAHs concentrations was 78.50 (128.9) ng/m 3 . PM 2.5 and PM 2.5 -bound PAHs were significantly associated with FeNO at various lag days. Single-day lag analyses revealed maximum effects of PM 2.5 on FeNO, with an increase of 7.71% (95% CI: 4.67%, 10.83%) per interquartile range (IQR) (48.10 μg/m 3 ) increase of PM 2.5 at lag2, and ΣPAHs showed a maximum elevation in FeNO of 6.40% (95% CI: 2.33%, 10.63%) at lag4 per IQR (57.39 ng/m 3 ) increase. Individual PAHs exhibited diversity peak effects on FeNO at lag3 (6 of 17), lag4 (9 of 17) in the single-day model, and lag0-5 (8 of 17) (from lag0-1 to lag0-6) in the cumulative model. Source apportionment indicated coal combustion as the primary contributor (accounting for 30.7%). However, a maximum effect on FeNO (an increase of 21.57% (95% CI: 13.58%, 30.13%) per IQR increase) was observed with traffic emissions at lag4. Diabetic wound healing is a great clinical challenge due to the microenvironment of hyperglycemia and high pH value, bacterial infection and persistent inflammation. Here, we develop a cascade nanoreactor hydrogel (Arg@Zn-MOF-GOx Gel, AZG-Gel) with arginine (Arg) loaded Zinc metal organic framework (Zn-MOF) and glucose oxidase (GOx) based on chondroitin sulfate (CS) and Pluronic (F127) to accelerate diabetic infected wound healing. GOx in AZG-Gel was triggered by hyperglycemic environment to reduce local glucose and pH, and simultaneously produced hydrogen peroxide (H 2 O 2 ) to enable Arg-to release nitric oxide (NO) for inflammation regulation, providing a suitable microenvironment for wound healing. Zinc ions (Zn 2+ ) released from acid-responsive Zn-MOF significantly inhibited the proliferation and biofilm formation of S.aureus and E.coli. AZG-Gel significantly accelerated diabetic infected wound healing by down-regulating pro-inflammatory tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α and interleukin (IL)-6, up-regulating anti-inflammatory factor IL-4, promoting angiogenesis and collagen deposition in vivo. Collectively, our nanoreactor cascade strategy combining "endogenous improvement (reducing glucose and pH)" with "exogenous resistance (anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory)" provides a new idea for promoting diabetic infected wound healing by addressing both symptoms and root causes. STATEMENT OF SIGNIFICANCE: A cascade nanoreactor (AZG-Gel) is constructed to solve three key problems in diabetic wound healing, namely, hyperglycemia and high pH microenvironment, bacterial infection and persistent inflammation. Local glucose and pH levels are reduced by GOx to provide a suitable microenvironment for wound healing. The release of Zn 2+ significantly inhibits bacterial proliferation and biofilm formation, and NO reduces wound inflammation and promotes angiogenesis. The pH change when AZG-Gel is applied to wounds is expected to enable the visualization of wound healing to guide the treatment of diabetic wound. Depression is a debilitating mental illness that poses a serious threat to human health. Nitric Oxide (NO), as an important gasotransmitter, is closely associated with the pathogenesis of depressive disorders. Effective monitoring of NO fluctuation is beneficial for the diagnosis of depression and therapy assessment of antidepressants. Currently, there is a lack of effective methods for rapidly and sensitively identifying NO and elucidating its relationship with depression diseases. Herein, we developed a NIR dye TJ730-based fluorescent probe TJ730-Golgi-NO incorporating benzenesulfonamide as a Golgi-targeted moiety and the thiosemicarbazide group for NO detection. The probe exhibited turn-on fluorescence ability and a large Stokes shift of 158 nm, which shows high sensitivity, selectivity, and rapid response (<1 min) for NO detection. TJ730-Golgi-NO could detect exogenous and endogenous NO in cells stimulated by Glu and LPS, and target Golgi apparatus. Moreover, we disclose a significant increase of NO in the depression model and a weak fluorescence evidenced in the fluoxetine-treated depression mice. An exhaustive chemical characterization of dense cores is mandatory to our understanding of chemical composition changes from a starless to a protostellar stage. However, only a few sources have had their molecular composition characterized in detail. Here we present a λ 3 mm line survey of L483, a dense core around a Class 0 protostar, which was observed with the IRAM 30 m telescope in the 80–116 GHz frequency range. We detected 71 molecules (140 including different isotopologs), most of which are present in the cold and quiescent ambient cloud according to their narrow lines (FWHM ~ 0.5 km s−1) and low rotational temperatures (≲10 K). Of particular interest among the detected molecules are the cis isomer of HCOOH, the complex organic molecules HCOOCH3, CH3OCH3, and C2H5OH, a wide variety of carbon chains, nitrogen oxides like N2O, and saturated molecules like CH3SH, in addition to eight new interstellar molecules (HCCO, HCS, HSC, NCCNH+, CNCN, NCO, H2NCO+, and NS+) whose detection has already been reported. In general, fractional molecular abundances in L483 are systematically lower than in TMC-1 (especially for carbon chains), tend to be higher than in L1544 and B1-b, and are similar to those in L1527. Apart from the overabundance of carbon chains in TMC-1, we find that L483 does not have a marked chemical differentiation with respect to starless/prestellar cores like TMC-1 and L1544, although it does chemically differentiate from Class 0 hot corino sources like IRAS 16293−2422. This fact suggests that the chemical composition of the ambient cloud of some Class 0 sources could be largely inherited from the dark cloud starless/prestellar phase. We explore the use of potential chemical evolutionary indicators, such as the HNCO/C3S, SO2/C2S, and CH3SH/C2S ratios, to trace the prestellar/protostellar transition. We also derived isotopic ratios for a variety of molecules, many of which show isotopic ratios close to the values for the local interstellar medium (remarkably all those involving 34S and 33S), while there are also several isotopic anomalies like an extreme depletion in 13C for one of the two isotopologs of c-C3H2, a drastic enrichment in 18O for SO and HNCO (SO being also largely enriched in 17O), and different abundances for the two 13C substituted species of C2H and the two 15N substituted species of N2H+. We report the first detection in space of some minor isotopologs like c-C3D. The exhaustive chemical characterization of L483 presented here, together with similar studies of other prestellar and protostellar sources, should allow us to identify the main factors that regulate the chemical composition of cores along the process of formation of low-mass protostars. Endothelial cells are sensitive to mechanical force and can convert it into biochemical signals to trigger mechano-chemo-transduction. Although conventional techniques have been used to investigate the subsequent modifications of cellular expression after mechanical stimulation, the in situ and real-time acquiring the transient biochemical information during mechanotransduction process remains an enormous challenge. In this work, we develop a flexible and multi-functional three-dimensional conductive scaffold that integrates cell growth, mechanical stimulation, and electrochemical sensing by in situ growth of enokitake-like Au nanowires on a three-dimensional porous polydimethylsiloxane substrate. The conductive scaffold possesses stable and desirable electrochemical sensing performance toward nitric oxide under mechanical deformation. The prepared e-AuNWs/CC/PDMS scaffold exhibits a good electrocatalytic ability to NO with a linear range from 2.5 nM to 13.95 μM and a detection limit of 8 nM. Owing to the excellent cellular compatibility, endothelial cells can be cultured directly on the scaffold and the real-time inducing and recording of nitric oxide secretion under physiological and pathological conditions were achieved. As a signaling molecule, Nitric oxide (NO) has been widely used in abiotic stress mitigation studies.Pistia stratiotes showed a good synergistic removal effect on heavy metals, nitrogen and phosphorus, but the high concentration of copper(Cu) in swine wastewater inhibited the comprehensive removal ability of Pistia stratiotes. At present, it is not clear how the addition of NO regulates the stress resistance mechanism of Pistia stratiotes to copper in swine wastewater, and the microbial response mechanism accompanying this process is not yet clear. Therefore, in the concentration range of 0.31∼4 mg·L -1 Cu 2+ and NO concentration of 0,0.05 and 0.1 mg L -1 , the removal effect of Pistia stratiotes on copper from swine wastewater was studied. The results showed as follows: The treatment of non-available copper in groups M and H increased by 10.67% and 22.31%, respectively, compared with that in group L. The critical point of inhibiting effect of NO on growth rate was 2.03 mg·L -1 Cu. By measuring three-dimensional fluorescence spectrum, combined with parallel factor analysis and principal component analysis, it was confirmed that exogenous addition of NO affected the humification degree of dissolved organic matter(DOM) and promoted the chelation of organic matter with copper. With the increase of Cu concentration, the Reyranella and Prosthecobacter with certain copper resistance gradually gained advantages. Redundancy analysis(RDA) showed that Emiticicia had a strong correlation with the removal rates of ammonia nitrogen, total phosphorus and copper in swine wastewater, while hgcI&#95;clade had a strong correlation with the removal rates of total nitrogen. As one of a traditional Chinese medicine with dual applications in both medicinal treatment and dietary consumption, the mature seeds of D. lablab were reported to be rich in saponins and have a good effect on inflammatory related diseases. However, the substance basis for its anti-inflammatory activity remains unclear. Thus, a comprehensive phytochemical investigation on triterpenoid saponins from D. lablab seeds was carried out, resulting in the isolation and identification of twenty-one new triterpenoid saponins including dolilabsaponins A 1 -A 4 , B, C, D 1 -D 3 , E-M, N 1 , N 2 and O (1-21) along with thirteen known analogs (22-34). Notably, the known saponins, 31, 32, and 34 were obtained from Leguminosae family for the first time. The 1 H and 13 C NMR data of saponins 24 and 28 were firstly reported here. Additionally, lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-stimulated RAW264.7 cells model was utilized to assess inhibitory activities of compounds 1-34 on nitric oxide (NO) production. The results revealed that compounds 1-3, 9, 10, 13-15, 18, 22, 23 and 28-34 significantly suppressed the elevation of NO levels in LPS-induced RAW264.7 cells at the concentration of 30 μM, exhibiting a concentration-dependent manner at 3, 10, and 30 μM. The results suggested that compounds 1-3, 9, 10, 13-15, 18, 22, 23, and 28-34 possessed potential anti-inflammatory activity. Twenty-nine sesquiterpenoids, including pseudoguaiane-type (1-11), eudesmane-type (12-23), and carabrane-type (24-29), have been identified from the plant Carpesium abrotanoides. Of them, compounds 1-4, 12-15, and 24-27, namely carpabrotins A-L, are twelve previously undescribed ones. Compound 3 possessed a pseudoguaiane backbone with a rearrangement modification at C-11, C-12 and C-13, while compound 4 suffered a carbon bond break between the C-4 and C-5 to form a rare 4,5-seco-pseudoguaiane lactone. Compounds 1-3, 5, 13-16 and 25-27 exhibited anti-inflammatory activity by inhibiting NO production in LPS-induced RAW264.7 macrophages with IC 50 values less than 40 μM, while compounds 1, 2, 5, 13, 14, 16, and 25-27 showed significant inhibitory activity comparable to that of dexamethasone. The anti-atopic dermatitis (AD) effects of compounds 5 and 16 were tested according to 2,4-dinitrochlorobenzene (DNCB)-induced AD-like skin lesions in KM mice, and the results revealed that the major products 5 and 16 improved the histological features of AD-like skin lesions and mast cell infiltration in mice. UPLC-Q-TOF-MS combined with mass defect filtering strategies were applied for the phytochemical investigation of Harrisonia perforata, leading to the isolation of thirteen undescribed limonoids named haperforatones A-M (1-13) and seventeen known compounds (14-30). Particularly, haperforatones D-E (4-5) have an unprecedented A, B, C, D-seco-6, 7-nor-C-24-limonoid skeleton, structurally stripped of the five-membered lactone ring B and formed a double bond at the C-5 and C-10 positions. Their 2D structures and relative configurations were identified using spectroscopic data. The absolute configurations of 1, 4, and 6 were established via X-ray diffraction crystallography. All 30 compounds were evaluated for anti-inflammatory potential in LPS-induced Raw 264.7 cell lines. Among those tested compounds, the most potent activity against LPS-induced NO generation was demonstrated by haperforatone F (6), with the IC 50 value of inhibition NO production of 7.2 µM. Additionally, 6 could significantly inhibit IL-1β and IL-6 release and markedly downregulate the protein expression level of iNOS in the LPS-stimulated RAW264.7 cells at 10 µM. In this study, the dendritic-like morphological structure of silver organic framework (Ag-MOF) was successfully synthesized via a solvothermal strategy. Owing to the introduction of polymeric composites results in improved electrical conductivity and catalytic activity, which promotes mass transfer and leads to faster electron efficiency. For monitoring the electrochemical signals of O 2 •- and NO, the Ag-MOF electrode substrate was produced by drop-coating, and composites were designed by cyclic voltammetric potential cycles. The designed electrode substrates demonstrate high sensitivity, wide linear concentrations of 1 nM-1000 μM and 1 nM-850 μM, and low detection limits of 0.27 nM and 0.34 nM (S/N = 3) against O 2 •- and NO. Aside from that, the sensor successfully monitored the cellular release of O 2 •- , and NO from HepG2 and RAW 264.7 living cells and has the potential to monitor exogenous NO release from donors of Diethylamine (DEA)-NONOate and sodium nitroprusside (SNP). Additionally, the developed system was applied to the analysis of O 2 •- and NO in real biological fluid samples, and the results were good satisfactory (94.10-99.57 ± 1.23%). The designed system provides a novel approach to obtaining a good electrochemical biosensor platform that is highly selective, stable, and flexible. This commentary highlighted the background, take-home messages, and impacts of our 2007 British Journal of Nutrition paper entitled "Amino acids and immune function". In 2003–2004, there was an outbreak of severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) caused by SARS coronavirus-1 (CoV-1) in Asian countries. By the mid-2000's, clinical and experimental evidence indicated important roles for amino acids (AA) in improving innate and adaptive immunities in humans and animals. Based on our long-standing interest in AA metabolism and nutritional immunology, we decided to critically analyze advances in this nutritional field. Furthermore, we proposed a unified mechanism responsible for beneficial effects of AA and their products (including nitric oxide, glutathione, antibodies, and cytokines) on immune responses. We hoped that such integrated knowledge would be helpful for designing AA-based nutritional methods (e.g., supplementation with glutathione, arginine and glutamine) to prevent and treat SARS-like infectious diseases in the future. Our paper laid a framework for subsequent studies to quantify AA metabolism in intestinal bacteria, determine the effects of functional AA on cell-mediated and humoral immunities, and establish a much-needed database of AA composition in foodstuffs. Unexpectedly, COVID-19 (caused by SARS-CoV-2) emerged in December 2019 and has become one of the deadliest pandemics in history. Notably, glutathione, arginine and glutamine have now been exploited to effectively relieve severe respiratory symptoms of COVID-19 in affected patients. Functional AA (e.g., arginine, cysteine, glutamate, glutamine, glycine, taurine and tryptophan) and glutathione, which are all abundant in animal-sourced foodstuffs, are crucial for optimum immunity and health in humans and animals. We use the ultra-violett (UV) spectra in the range 230-300 nm from the SCanning Imaging Absorption spectroMeter for Atmospheric CHartographY (SCIAMACHY) to retrieve the nitric oxide (NO) number densities from atmospheric emissions in the gamma-bands in the mesosphere and lower thermosphere. Using 3-D ray tracing, a 2-D retrieval grid, and regularisation with respect to altitude and latitude, we retrieve a whole semi-orbit simultaneously for the altitude range from 60 to 160 km. We present details of the retrieval algorithm, first results, and initial comparisons to data from the Michelson Interferometer for Passive Atmospheric Sounding (MIPAS). Our results agree on average well with MIPAS data and are compatible with previously published measurements from other instruments. For the time of available measurements in 2008-2011, we achieve a vertical resolution of 5-10km in the altitude range 70-140km and a horizontal resolution of about 9° from 60° S-60° N. Fifty compounds including seven undescribed (1, 13, 18-20, 30, 31) and forty-three known (2-12, 14-17, 21-29, 32-50) ones were isolated from the extract of the twigs and leaves of Aglaia odorata with anti-neuroinflammatory activities. Their structures were determined by a combination of spectral analysis and calculated spectra (ECD and NMR). Among them, compounds 13-25 were found to possess tertiary amide bonds, with compounds 16, 17, and 19-21 existing detectable cis/trans mixtures in 1 H NMR spectrum measured in CDCl 3 . Specifically, the analysis of the cis-trans isomerization equilibrium of tertiary amides in compounds 19-24 was conducted using NMR spectroscopy and quantum chemical calculations. Bioactivity evaluation showed that the cyclopenta[b]benzofuran derivatives (2-6, 8, 10, 12) could inhibit nitric oxide production at the nanomolar concentration (IC 50 values ranging from 2 to 100 nM) in lipopolysaccharide-induced BV-2 cells, which were 413-20670 times greater than that of the positive drug (minocycline, IC 50  = 41.34 μM). The cyclopenta[bc]benzopyran derivatives (13-16), diterpenoids (30-35), lignan (40), and flavonoids (45, 47, 49, 50) also demonstrated significant inhibitory activities with IC 50 values ranging from 1.74 to 38.44 μM. Furthermore, the in vivo anti-neuroinflammatory effect of rocaglaol (12) was evaluated via immunofluorescence, qRT-PCR, and western blot assays in the LPS-treated mice model. The results showed that rocaglaol (12) attenuated the activation of microglia and decreased the mRNA expression of iNOS, TNF-α, IL-1β, and IL-6 in the cortex and hippocampus of mice. Emerging literatures have concentrated on the association between cardiovascular diseases risk of typical endocrine disruptor bisphenols, which also put forward the further studies need respect to the potential mechanism. Herein, we investigated the endothelial dysfunction effects of bisphenols and brominated bisphenols involved in aortic pathological structure, endothelial nitric oxide synthase (eNOS) protein phosphorylation, synthase activity and nitric oxide (NO) production in human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs) and C57BL/6 mice. Bisphenol A (BPA) and bisphenol S (BPS) increased NO production by 85.7% and 68.8% at 10 -6  M level in vitro and 74.3%, 41.5% in vivo, respectively, while tetrabromobisphenol S (TBBPS) significantly inhibited NO by 55.7% at 10 -6  M in vitro and 28.9% in vivo at dose of 20 mg/kg BW/d. Aortic transcriptome profiling revealed that the process of 'regulation of NO mediated signal transduction' was commonly induced. The mRNA and protein expression of phosphorylated eNOS at Ser 1177 were promoted by BPA and BPS but decreased by TBBPA and TBBPS in HUVECs. Phosphorylation and enzymatic activity of eNOS were significantly increased by 43.4% and 13.8% with the treatment of BPA and BPS at 10 -7  M, but decreased by 16.9% after exposure to TBBPS at 10 -6  M in vitro. Moreover, only TBBPS was observed to increase aorta thickness significantly in mice and induce endothelial dysfunction. In this paper, we employ computational analysis to investigate the long-term potentiation (LTP) and memory formation in synapses between neurons. We use a mathematical model describing the synaptic transmission as a signal transduction pathway with a positive feedback loop formed by diffusion of nitric oxide (NO) to the presynaptic site. We found that the model of synaptic transmission exhibits a hysteresis-like behavior, where the strength of synaptic transmission depends not just on instantaneous interstimulus intervals, but also on the history of activity. The switching between resting and memory states can be induced by physiologically relevant and moderate (less than 50%) changes in the duration of interstimulus intervals. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
