Underground piping remains one of the key uncertain infrastructures in urban development. Because they are buried underground without a clear vision, the management of the underground piping system is more complicated than other infrastructure. Their records are not usually fully available or accurate, and excavation to validate underground structures is often needed in infrastructure projects. Detection of unexpected obstacles may lead to project delay, increased time spent, and risk of damaging existing piping. The traditional underground piping system management relies on computer-aided design (CAD) drawings and historical empiricism. Still, it cannot meet the strict requirements of infrastructure management nowadays or make the management efficient and sustainable because of the technical limitations and conceptual obsolescence. Therefore, to address this issue, this paper proposes an innovative method that aims to manage the underground piping life cycle. This method is to develop a building information model (BIM) in a geographic information system (GIS) environment by integrating heterogeneous data from both BIM and GIS, which not only achieves three-dimensional (3D) visualization but also seamlessly connects to portfolios, programs, projects, and assets throughout the life cycle of urban underground piping. This is a critical development to integrate and analyze geometric and nongeometric information of aboveground and subsurface building assets and the surrounding environment to stimulate interaction with real-world context. This paper also introduces a case study in China to further prove the feasibility of this method and the format based on it in practice. In the case study, the proposed method is implemented together with a piping sensor to further illustrate the effectiveness of the method over trenchless detection and real-time monitoring for daily management of underground piping. Because the model is visible and the monitoring is in real time, the management would be straightforward. At the same time, this method can analyze, plan, and monitor activity, so the management of urban underground piping systems would become smart. Therefore, an efficient and sustainable management performance can be achieved. This method is meaningful for managing the urban underground piping system, especially for those with expansion, refurbishment, or maintenance for an urban underground piping system. An important task in the construction of China's ecological civilization, the selection and implementation of policy instruments fully reflect the actual effectiveness of the government's efforts to control air pollution. Based on the content analysis method, this study examines the changing process of air pollution control policy instruments in southwest China from 2010 to 2021 in terms of implementation, synergy, and integration of policy instruments. The results show that, in terms of the degree of mandatory, the frequency of using policy instruments generally increased with time, but the overall balance of the instrument portfolio was poor. In terms of the degree of synergy, a gradual shift occurred from government-led to government-society governance. However, the concept and modes of inter-governmental linkage and cross-regional collaborative governance need to be improved. As for the degree of systemic, a clear trend of instrument integration and more frequent information interaction was found. Emergency-oriented characteristics appear strong, but a regular governance mechanism is lacking. Therefore, this paper provides policy suggestions and academic considerations for further improving the effectiveness of air pollution management in southwest China from three aspects: optimizing the policy tool system, deepening the regional joint prevention and control mechanism of air pollution, and promoting intelligent air pollution management. Purpose - To investigate the integration of supply chain management (SCM) and enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems for competing in the twenty-first century supply chain. Design/methodology/approach - A case study with a paper manufacturing company in China is conducted. Primary data is collected through interviews with managers of the company. The reengineering activities and processes, and the soft issues of supplier relationship are examined. Findings - Breaking the traditional decentralised system and introducing the concept of a single, integrated plan, which a company could work together with their suppliers has led to cost reduction, lead-time reduction, improved visibility, reduced time to market, and increased efficiency in the company. Research limitations/implications - This research is based on a single case study in process manufacturing industry in China, which perhaps limits its usefulness elsewhere. Practical implications - One should not rely solely on ERP systems for managing their supply chain. Individual company should look at an effective purchasing function as one of the competencies essential to supply chain success. Originality/value - ERP systems in the case company address only a subset of SCM needs. ERP's main added value is its combination of financial control with multi-facility coordination, but ERP does not deliver supply planning and demand planning functionality for the company. The systems are not designed to support internal supply chains. However, integration of SCM and ERP gives the company the opportunity to build effective processes with suppliers they trust, so they can get the maximum return on relationship with all their suppliers on a continuous basis. Landslide susceptibility maps (LSM) are often used by government departments to carry out land use management and planning, which supports decision makers in urban and infrastructure planning. The accuracy of conventional landslide susceptibility maps is often affected by classification errors. Consequently, they become less reliable, which makes it difficult to meet the needs of decision-makers. Therefore, it is proposed in this paper to reduce classification errors and improve LSM reliability by integrating the Small Baseline Subsets-Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar (SBAS-InSAR) technique and LSM. By using the logistic regression model (LR) and the support vector machine model (SVM), experiments were conducted to generate LSM in the Dongchuan district. It was classified into five classes: very high susceptibility, high susceptibility, medium susceptibility, low susceptibility, and very low susceptibility. Then, the surface deformation rate of the Dongchuan area was obtained through the ascending and descending orbit sentinel-1A data from January 2018 to January 2021. To correct the classification errors, the SBAS-InSAR technique was integrated into LSM under the optimal model by constructing the contingency matrix. Finally, the LSMs obtained before and after correction were compared. Moreover, the correction results were validated and analyzed by combining remote sensing images, InSAR deformation results, and field surveys. According to the research results, the susceptibility class of 66,094 classification error cells (59.48 km2) was significantly improved in the LSM after the integration of the SBAS-InSAR correction. The enhanced susceptibility classes and the spectral characteristics of remote sensing images are highly consistent with the trends of InSAR cumulative deformation and the results of field investigation. It is suggested that integrating SBAS-InSAR and LSM is effective in correcting classification errors and further improving the reliability of LSM for landslide prediction. The LSM obtained by using this method plays an important role in guiding local government departments on disaster prevention and mitigation, which is conducive to eliminating the risk of landslides. It is of great significance to explore the dynamic coupling relationship between industrial integration and urban land-use efficiency (ULUE) in order to promote high-quality urban development. This paper presents a system for evaluating industrial integration and ULUE which combines the internal theoretical relationships between the two. Based on this system, this paper analyzes the evolution process and the mechanism behind the coupling coordination relationship between industrial integration and ULUE with the help of the coupling coordination model, nonparametric kernel density estimation, and the geographical detector method. The results indicate the following: (1) The coupling coordination relationship between industrial integration and ULUE in the Yangtze River Economic Zone experienced an overall steady increase during the investigation period. However, there were great spatial differences in the coupling coordination relationship among cities. (2) The lag of the industrial integration level was the key area of resistance to the improvement of the coupling coordination level. (3) The interaction between industrial integration and ULUE in the Yangtze River Economic Zone was very significant. In particular, the impact of industrial agglomeration and factor flow on the ULUE and the impact of land on industrial integration in terms of ecological environment were prominent. The object of the paper are the border regions of Siberia as a part of the planned China-Mongolia-Russia economic corridor in China's foreign policy initiative "One Belt One Road". The aim of the study is to reveal the nature of the interaction of these regions with the outside world to determine the ways of their development within a common economic space of the corridor. The study is based on the analysis of foreign investment flows to the border regions using macro- and microeconomic methods. The volume foreign capital goes mainly to mining, while other industries are dominated by small enterprises formed by foreign citizens, not corporations. In these areas, intermediary business prevails, which does not require increased human capital. China is gradually replacing other counter-partners in the use of natural resources, including mineral and forest ones. The problems of development of the border regions in common economic space of the corridor due to similar resource specialisation and weak development of the embedded economy have been identified. With the development of transit infrastructure, it is necessary to develop local industries integrated into large projects and capable of using this infrastructure to expand sales markets. Short Message Communication (SMC) is a featured service of BeiDou Navigation Satellite System (BDS). After its successful deployment in 2003, Regional Short Message Communication (RSMC) service has been continuously serving China and its neighboring countries and regions, especially in life safety scenarios. In this paper, the architecture of the Global Short Message Communication (GSMC) system is proposed based on the medium earth orbit (MEO) constellation and the crosslinks of the global BeiDou navigation system (BDS-3). Three subtypes of GSMC service, i.e. positioning report, emergency search and rescue (SAR) and regular SMC are designed in accordance with the technical characteristic of integration of navigation and communication in BDS-3, which supports future wide applications of GSMC. The performance of the designed GSMC system is analyzed by numerical calculations. As BDS-3 was officially announced completion on July 31, 2020, GSMC has been providing initial service. First test results of the in orbit GSMC payloads are also presented in the paper to verify the designed capabilities. Purpose -- The purpose of this paper is to explore the relationship between product modularity (PM) and supply chain integration (SCI), and to identify factors influencing this relationship. Design/methodology/approach -- A case study approach involving in-depth interviews on three modular and two non-modular design projects in the Hong Kong and Pearl River Delta region was conducted. Within and cross-case analyses were adopted. Findings -- Results support the current view that modular design is related to a loosely coordinated supply chain, whereas integrated design is associated with a tightly coordinated supply chain. However, this relationship is affected and explained by four contingency factors: new module/component development, technological knowledge leakage and creation, project team size and supply chain efficiency. Research limitations/implications -- The paper used a case study approach so the generalizability of the study is limited. This approach, however, enabled us to examine explicitly the relationship between PM and SCI, where empirical research was lacking. The rich content of each case suggested how and why modular design affects supply chain management. Originality/value -- The findings of this paper increase the understanding of the dynamics of modular product design and supply chain management. By adopting both quantitative and qualitative methods, this paper, with the types of bilingual identities (Yongwei B & Yihong G,2006) serving as the framework, examines the characteristics of Chinese college English learners' bilingual identity changes. It is found that instrumental bilingual identity penetrates through L2 learning process, additive and productive bilingual identity are dominant types among L2 English learners; the bilingual identity construction of EFL learners may assume the following process: instrumental bilingual identity, subtractive and split bilingual identity, additive and productive bilingual identity. Teachers suffer from educating while students struggle with examination. College English teaching is too time-consuming and inefficient. These have been topics of concern and interest in the reform of college English teaching and learning in China. With the large expansion of the number of universities, the shortage of teaching resources has reached a bottleneck of the quality improvement of higher education in China. In the face of such a dilemma, the integration of computer network technology and curriculum teaching and the realization of the efficient integration of limited resources are an effective way to solve the pressing challenge. The study addresses the problems arising in association with the conjugation of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) and the Belt and Road initiative. The hypothesis is that the conjugation is economically effective, and this is proven by the statistical analysis of trade and investment dynamics and buttressed by empirical observations. Based on this, the recommendations for the EAEU are given. The paper dismantles the problems arising in the sphere of security and peacekeeping and proposes a number of steps for ensuring peace and stable development in the region, implementing the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) mechanism. The article highlights the main plans of the China–EAEU partnership and puts forward alternative cooperation strategies for the People's Republic of China (PRC). Power wireless private networks (PWPNs) have been highly developed in China in recent years. They provide a basis for the energy Internet of Things, which enables the exchange of energy information between devices. Although the power wireless private network is an imitation of the public cellular network, a number of special challenges remain in power private networks. Due to the lack of general standards for PWPNs at the beginning of deployment, there are now two independent PWPN systems in China: long-term evolution (LTE) 230 and LTE 1800. Each has its own core and access networks with independent hardware. In this paper, we propose a high-level design of multinetwork integration to allow LTE 230 and LTE 1800 to coexist. For core network integration, we propose a protocol controller to select the active protocol according to the user's mode selection, since both LTE 230 and LTE 1800 evolved from the standard LTE system. For access network integration, we propose a multinetwork integration controller to help the device access the optimal cell. The simulation results show that the integrated system can retain the advantages of these two independent systems in terms of both capacity and coverage. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The agricultural cold-chain logistics system is significant for agricultural product preservation and reducing losses. Moreover, it meaningfully promotes the income of farmers and rural revitalization in China, to a certain extent. The energy-storage technology as an emerging distributed solution has been attracting increasing attention over recent years. However, because of the low performance of energy-storage materials and lack of integration methods, many agricultural products rot during transportation. The current challenge resides in how the agricultural cold-chain logistics system can meet the requirements of stable and efficient continuous operation and reduce rot during the transportation of agricultural products. For this purpose, it is necessary to consider improving the performance of energy-storage materials and achieve their more-efficient integration into the entire agricultural cold-chain logistics system. Future trends in the agricultural cold-chain logistics system involve the high performance and low carbon footprint of energy-storage materials, which are key to meeting environmental standards and changing market demands. Advances in renewable energy technologies and energy-storage solutions have significantly accelerated the industrialisation of this system. The agricultural cold-chain logistics system will become the main force in promoting rural revitalisation in the future, which is a necessary condition for narrowing the development gap between China and other developed countries in this context. Therefore, this paper reviews the properties of the energy-storage materials that are suitable for the agricultural cold-chain logistics system and how to integrate these materials into that system. Hydrochemical research and identification of nitrate contamination are of great significant for the endorheic basin, and the Northern Huangqihai Basin (a typical endorheic basin) was comprehensively researched. The results showed that the main hydrochemical facies were HCO3–Mg·Ca and HCO3–Ca·Mg. Spatial variation coefficients of most indices were greater than 60%, which was probably caused by human activities. The hydrochemical evolution was mainly affected by rock weathering and also by cation exchange. The D–18O relationship of groundwater was δD = 5.93δ18O − 19.18, and the d–excess range was −1.60–+6.01‰, indicating that groundwater was mainly derived from precipitation and that contaminants were very likely to enter groundwater along with precipitation infiltration. The NO3(N) contents in groundwater exceeded the standard. Hydrochemical analyses indicated that precipitation, industrial activities and synthetic NO3 were unlikely to be the main sources of nitrate contamination in the study area. No obvious denitrification occurred in the transformation process of nitrate. The δ15N(NO3) values ranged from +0.29‰ to +14.39‰, and the δ18O(NO3) values ranged from −6.47‰ to +1.24‰. Based on the δ15N(NO3) – δ18O(NO3) dual isotope technique and hydrochemical methods, manure, sewage and NH4 fertilizers were identified to be the main sources of nitrate contamination. This study highlights the effectiveness of the integration of hydrochemical and isotopic data for nitrate source identification, and is significant for fully understanding groundwater hydrochemistry in endorheic basins and scientifically managing and protecting groundwater. The jobs-housing imbalance and long commuting distances for residents in many megacities in China are promoting the increase in mode share with rail transit. The emergence of free-floating bike sharing (FFBS) provides an attractive and cost-effective multi-modal solution to the first/last mile problem. This study identifies the mobility patterns of free-floating bikes as a feeder mode to 277 rail transit stations in Beijing using detailed GPS data, and the relationships between these patterns, culture and spatial layout of the city are examined. The results show that the distribution of free-floating bikes, as a feeder mode to rail transit, exhibits an aggregating feature in the spatial-temporal pattern on weekdays. According to the results of the Clusters method and ANOVA analysis, the operation characteristics of free-floating bikes are related to the location of the transit station and the job-to-housing ratio around that area, and imbalanced usage of shared bikes across the city may result from the extreme values of job-to-housing ratios. Based on the fitted distance decay curve, accessing distance is greatly influenced by urban morphology and location. Based on these findings, recommendations for planning, management, and rebalancing of the FFBS system as a feeder mode to rail transit are proposed to promote the integration of FFBS and the rail transit system. During the past two decades, financial markets across the globe have experienced sporadic waves of crashes. Such waves raise concerns about the vulnerability of global financial markets and the transmission mechanisms of shocks beyond borders. The current study examines the co-movement of stock markets in BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) countries and the United States of America (US). It unfolds their exposure to contagion effects during the major financial crises, which have flared up since 2000. Daily close price indices of selected stock markets were used in this endeavour. These data spanned from 5 January 2000 to 10 March 2021. A wavelet decomposition on stock return series was performed on these data to determine the multihorizon nature of comovement (pure contagion or interdependence) and the dynamics of market integration. It emerges that before the 2006-US-housing-bubble and after the 2011/13-EU-sovereign-debt crises, some shocks caused pure contagion. Such transmission generated short-term shocks. Most of the earlier shocks, particularly the US subprime and the EU Sovereign Debt crises, were spread via interdependence. Trade linkages and economic integration improvements enhanced such interdependence. In addition, when analysing the episodes of market integration, it arises that, in general, the short- and long-term integration strengthened and deepened comovement among equity markets. From the portfolio diversification and risk management perspectives, these results indicate that the market in China provided lucrative grounds for short-run investors from the other countries covered in the current study. These results can be helpful for investors interested in portfolio diversification in the BRICS region. Utilizing food delivery platforms as its subject, this article demonstrates how platforms serve as key sites for recognizing and performing migrant workers' economic integration. It develops the concept of platformed integration to argue for the rise of a platformed governance model in China's digital economy, wherein the platform leverages its legacy among migrant laborers through multilayered intermediaries, digital management, and embedded infrastructure. This platformed integration, as demonstrated, addresses how migrant workers in China conceive and experience top-down digital infrastructures of labor platforms in terms of tactical negotiations, and how this ultimately shapes their livelihood opportunities in class-divided cities. This paper aims to find out preferences in acculturation strategies among Chinese students in Germany and provide insights into their cultural awareness in terms of the social and psychosocial adaptation factors. The acculturation strategies investigated in the study were assimilation, integration, marginalization and separation. Data were collected from questionnaires. The data reveal that both integration and separation are the preferred acculturation strategies. Males prefer separation while females predominantly choose integration. The findings suggest that the acculturation patterns of Chinese students in Germany are characterized by unique cross-cultural traits due to the social and psychological distances of the two countries. Abstract: Sustainable development or sustainability has been highlighted as an essential principle in urban master planning, with increasing recognition that uncontrollable urbanization may well give rise to various issues such as overexploitation of natural resources, ecosystem destruction, environmental pollution and large-scale climate change. Thus, it is deemed necessary to modify the existing urban and regional administrative system so as to cope with the challenges urban planning is being confronted with and realize the purpose of urban sustainability. This paper contributed to proposing a mechanism which helps to make urban planning with full consideration of issues with respect to sustainable development. We suggested that the integration of urban planning, SEA and ecological planning be a multi-win strategy to offset deficiency of each mentioned political tool being individually applied. We also proposed a framework where SEA and ecological planning are fully incorporated into urban planning, which forms a two-way constraint mechanism to ascertain environmental quality of urban planning, although in practice, planning and SEA processes may conditionally be unified. Moreover, as shown in the case study, the integration of the three political tools may be constrained due to slow changes in the contextual factors, in particular the political and cultural dimensions. Currently within the context of China, there may be three major elements which facilitate integration of the three political tools, which are (1) regulatory requirement of PEIA on urban planning, (2) the promotion or strong administrative support from government on eco-district building, and (3) the willingness of urban planners to collaborate with SEA experts or ecologists. Background: An aging population is one of the key drivers reshaping health care systems. In China, the complex needs of its huge aging population require integration across the health and care sectors. Policies and progress: Over the past decade, the central government of China promulgated a series of policies to promote the establishment of aftercare facilities, specify approaches to integrate health and care service delivery at institutional and community levels, pilot long-term care insurance (LTCI) as a funding mechanism, and reform administrative structures in favor of integration. Progress has been made towards organizational and clinical integration of service delivery both at institutional and community levels. LTCI has been introduced as the financing mechanism covering long term care services. Discussions and Conclusions: The experiences of China in the integration of health and care could be summarized as a top-down approach in policy formulation and implementation, the significant employment of pilots and demonstrations, and the activation of market forces. However, China is still in the initial stage of integrating health and care and is faced with system-level challenges in its financing, management, and workforce, and faces technical challenges, such as a lack of tools, and standards. The integrating method and working procedure of a digital hospital information system were discussed in this paper. It adopts a unique modularized structure that allows interplatform data exchange among different hospital information systems (HIS, RIS and PACS) through the seamless integration of the above-mentioned three systems according to the international standards (DICOM, HL7 and TC251). The realization of communication interface standardization, function modularisation, common sharing of medical information resources and adaptation to local circumstances enables the system function, management function, information processing and communication function to be achieved on a complete platform, which provides such advantages as common sharing, openness, security, extensibility and simple operation, and offers completeness to present hospital management and future medical environment. Currently, it is being successfully applied at many hospitals in China such as the 5th People Hospital of Zhengzhou City to realize the digitized, network-dependent and film-independent modern hospital management. The development of reliable early rockburst warning models for underground mines is a challenging task considering the complex nature of rockburst phenomena. In this paper, a real-time, integrated multi-system, early rockburst warning model is developed to achieve the quantitative prediction of the rockburst probabilities at a specific time. The model input parameters are data derived from microseismic (MS) and acoustic emission (AE) monitoring systems. The early warning model is based on fuzzy comprehensive evaluation method (FCEM), confusion matrix and maximum membership degree principle. These tools integrate the advantages of both multi-system and multi-parameter into one unified model. During the early warning procedure, six early warning indices representing temporal, spatial and energy parameters are rationalized. Next, the weight of each index is determined from confusion matrix leading to a score value. Real-time early warning results can then be determined from the maximum membership degree principle. The results show that the proposed integrated MS-AE early warning model has the advantage of combining multiple systems and indices, and it has higher prediction accuracy than individual systems. The early warning model is successfully demonstrated with a case study from the Wudong Coal Mine in China. Background: China's fragmentation of social health insurance schemes has become a key obstacle that hampers equal access to health care and financial protection. This study aims to explores if the policy intervention Urban and Rural Residents Basic Medical Insurance (URRBMI) scheme, which integrates Urban Resident Basic Medical Insurance (URBMI) and New Rural Cooperative Medical Scheme (NCMS), can curb the persistent inequity of catastrophic health expenditure (CHE) and further analyses the determinants causing inequity. Methods: Data were derived from the Fifth National Health Service Survey (NHSS). A total of 11,104 households covered by URRBMI and 20,590 households covered by URBMI or NCMS were selected to analyze CHE and the impoverishment rate from medical expenses. Moreover, the decomposition method based on a probit model was employed to analyse factors contributing CHE inequity. Results: The overall incidence of CHE under integrated insurance scheme was 15.53%, about 1.10% higher than the non-integrated scheme; however, the intensity of CHE and impoverishment among the poorest was improved. Although CHE was still concentrated among the poor under URRBMI (CI = -0.53), it showed 28.38% lower in the degree of inequity. For URRBMI households, due to the promotion of integration reform to the utilization of rural residents' better health services, the factor of residence (24.41%) turns out to be a major factor in increasing inequity, the factor of households with hospitalized members (− 84.53%) played a positive role in reducing inequity and factors related to social economic status also contributed significantly in increasing inequity. Conclusion: The progress made in the integrated URRBMI on CHE equity deserves recognition, even though it did not reduce the overall CHE or the impoverishment rate effectively. Therefore, for enhanced equity, more targeted solutions should be considered, such as promoting more precise insurance intervention for the most vulnerable population and including costly diseases suitable for outpatient treatment into benefit packages. This article looks at identity constructions of mainland Chinese undergraduate students in a Hong Kong university. These students shared a "Hong Kong Dream" characterised by a desire for change in individual outlooks, a yearning for international exposure, and rich imaginations about Hong Kong and beyond. However, when their Hong Kong Dream met Hong Kong's "anti-mainlandisation discourse," as was partially, yet acutely, reflected in the recent Occupy Central movement, most students constructed the simultaneous identities of a "free" self that was spatially mobile and ideologically unconfined and an "elite" self that was among the winners of global competition. This article argues that the identity constructions of these mainland Chinese students shed light on global student mobilisation and provide a unique, insider's perspective into the integration process between Hong Kong and the rest of the People's Republic of China. Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) is an integral part of mainstream medicine in China. Due to its worldwide use, potential impact on healthcare and opportunities for new drug development, TCM is also of great international interest. Recently, a new era for modernisation of TCM was launched with the successful completion of the Good Practice in Traditional Chinese Medicine Research in the Post-genomic Era (GP-TCM) project, the European Union's Seventh Framework Programme (FP7) coordination action on TCM research. This 3.5-year project that involved inputs from over 200 scientists resulted in the production of 20 editorials and in-depth reviews on different aspects of TCM that were published in a special issue of Journal of Ethnopharmacology (2012; volume 140, issue 3). In this narrative review, we aim to summarise the findings of the FP7 GP-TCM project and highlight the relevance of TCM to modern medicine within a historical and international context. Advances in TCM research since the 1950s can be characterised into three phases: Phase I (1950s-1970s) was fundamental for developing TCM higher education, research and hospital networks in China; Phase II (1980s-2000s) was critical for developing legal, economic and scientific foundations and international networks for TCM; and Phase III (2011 onwards) is concentrating on consolidating the scientific basis and clinical practice of TCM through interdisciplinary, interregional and intersectoral collaborations. Taking into account the quality and safety requirements newly imposed by a globalised market, we especially highlight the scientific evidence behind TCM, update the most important milestones and pitfalls, and propose integrity, integration and innovation as key principles for further modernisation of TCM. The article traces the origin and development of book-keeping in China, emphasizing the integration of historical trends and western influences surrounding single-entry and double-entry book-keeping. Chinese bookkeeping methods have evolved over two thousand years, during which time they have incorporated many innovations. These methods have moved gradually from single entry to double entry. The first complete single-entry book-keeping system was almost certainly invented during the Western Zhou Dynasty. Certain processes of the evolution of bookkeeping will be studied sequentially after the better known and dramatic revolutionary effects of Western influences from 1840 to 1996 are briefly examined. Interpretation of the likely impact of the Western influence as a whole for the integration of Western and Chinese accounting systems appear subsequently. Comparable to U.S. influence on Japanese accounting post World War II, the influence of the Soviet Union on the foundation of the People's Republic of China in 1949 resulted in its economic structure following the principles of the Soviet Union primarily through the introduction of central planning.
