To enhance the heat-transfer performance of scramjet engines, a numerical simulation was conducted on the heat-transfer process of RP-3 aviation kerosene under supercritical pressure within a horizontal micro-fine circular tube. The intrinsic mechanism of the heat-transfer process was analyzed, summarizing the impacts of mass flux, inlet temperature, and gravitational acceleration. Furthermore, four commonly used buoyancy criterion numbers were compared and evaluated. The results indicate that the heat-transfer process can be divided into five phases: heating inlet phase, normal heat-transfer phase, heat-transfer deterioration phase, heat-transfer enhancement phase, and high-temperature normal heat-transfer phase. The heating inlet phase is significantly influenced by the inlet temperature, while the heat-transfer deterioration is affected both by the thermal property variations of the aviation kerosene and the buoyancy effects. Lower mass flux and hypergravity conditions all exacerbate heat-transfer deterioration. Inlet temperature, however, does not affect the heat-transfer pattern. This study presents a one-dimensional mathematical model developed to simulate multi-zone thermal storage systems using phase change materials (PCMs). The model enables precise analysis of temperature distribution in the layered storage based on several PCM configurations and properties. It is distinguished by its adaptability to various tank geometries and the number of PCM capsules, enabling its application under diverse operating conditions. By simplifying the implementation of heat transfer processes that depend on the shape of the capsule and the thermal properties of the PCM, the computation time can be reduced to a level that makes simulations over longer periods feasible. Experimental validation confirmed the accuracy of the model, with deviations below 6%, underscoring its practical applicability. The study demonstrates that individual layering in the storage tank can be achieved by filling it with PCMs of different melting points without compromising the maximum storage capacity. It is shown that including a PCM layer can maintain the outlet temperature 20% longer while storing 14% more energy. The results point out the model's potential to improve the performance of thermal storage systems through targeted PCM layer configurations. The DIGIT experiment was launched at the Tournemire Underground Research Laboratory URL with the aim of determining the effects of temperature on the transfer of analogues of most mobile radionuclides (i.e., 36Cl, 129I and 79Se) in the Toarcian clay rock, the properties of which are close to host rocks being considered for future deep geological disposal of high-level (HL) radioactive wastes. The experimental principle involves the monitoring of an exchange between a test water traced with stable halides and deuterium at constant concentration and the porewater of the Toarcian clay rock submitted to various temperatures. This experiment seeks to partially address questions regarding the potential spread of contaminants during the thermal phase of High Level Waste (HLW) waste packages. Specifically, the in situ experiment aims to evaluate the role of scale effects and thermodiffusion, a process that combines Fick's law and the Soret effect, in the transfer of radionuclides. This paper presents the first steps of the study, including the scoping calculations, the experimental set-up and the first results obtained during the unheated phase. The study started with the acquisition of the initial parameters, including the rock thermal properties, the concentrations of the four tracers (chloride, bromide, iodide and deuterium) naturally present in the clay porewater and their diffusive transport parameters by using four diffusion exchange techniques (phase 0). A model coupling heat and mass transfers was then developed using Comsol Multiphysics®, integrating data acquired so far with existing literature data. A test water with a tracer concentration around 1000 times higher than those in the pore water was proposed with a temperature imposed at the test section wall of 70 °C. A large test zone of 50 cm height and 1 m in diameter and installed in a 3 m deep vertical well located in a sound zone at the URL was then proposed. The installation of the experiments required the realization of one shaft and of nine peripheral boreholes for the monitoring of temperature, water pressure and deformation. The experiment started with phase 1, involving a traced, unheated water start-up for a period of 5 months. Then, a core sampling was conducted in the emptied well, and the same diffusion exchange techniques were applied. The results of anionic tracers were compared to simulations based on initial parameters (phase 0), revealing that tracer penetration at the end of phase 1 exceeded simulated values by approximately 2 cm. This result is interpreted as an increase in the accessible porosity to tracers, possibly due to the excavation damaged zone. Future simulations should incorporate these adjusted diffusive transport parameters. Following phase 1, the heating system was activated, applying a temperature of 70 °C to the test zone. Microwave heating has been applied to improve cement-based materials (CBMs) structures deicing efficiency, which reduce the effect of icing on their service life. Moreover, the enhanced thermal properties of CBMs can further improve their deicing efficiency. In this study, silicon carbide (SiC) ceramic particles with favorable thermal properties were used to prepare the SiC cement-based materials (SCBMs). The effect of SiC ceramic on the mechanical strength of CBMs was investigated. Next, the heat transfer and storage ability of CBMs were investigated to analyze the changes in their thermal-physical parameters. Then, the surface thermal responses of the CBMs during microwave heating and off were recorded to characterize their temperature evolution in a low-temperature condition. Furthermore, the deicing efficiency of CBMs was determined using the ice layer shedding time (ILST) as the index. The results show that the filling effect of SiC ceramic on CBMs improved their mechanical strength within a certain content range. However, a large content of SiC ceramic caused an increase in the weak area and porosity within the CBMs, further reducing their mechanical properties. The thermal-physical parameters of CBMs were improved after adding SiC ceramic. The thermal conductivity and thermal effusivity of SCBMs-100 were 13.17 W/(m·K) and 1.44 W/(mm2·K), respectively, 7.90 and 2.35 times higher than the control group. Due to the favorable thermal properties of SCBMs, their heating rate and surface temperature field distribution characteristics were further improved. Furthermore, with the increase of SiC ceramic content, the ILST of SCBMs was further reduced during microwave heating. Therefore, the SiC ceramic was a favorable material, improving the thermal properties and deicing efficiency of CBMs to a certain extent. In the realm of high-tech materials and energy applications, accurately measuring the transient heat flow at media boundaries and the internal thermal conductivity of materials in harsh heat exchange environments poses a significant challenge when using conventional direct measurement methods. Consequently, the study of photothermal parameter reconstruction in translucent media, which relies on indirect measurement techniques, has crucial practical value. Current research on reconstructing photothermal properties within participating media typically focuses on single-objective or time-invariant properties. There is a pressing need to develop effective methods for the simultaneous reconstruction of time-varying thermal flow fields and internal thermal conductivity at the boundaries of participating media. This paper introduces a computational model based on the numerical simulation theory of internal heat transfer systems in participating media, stochastic particle swarm optimization algorithms, and Kalman filter technology. The model aims to enable the simultaneous reconstruction of various thermal parameters within the target medium. Our results demonstrate that under varying levels of measurement noise, the inversion results for different target parameters exhibit slight oscillations around the true values, leading to a reduction in reconstruction accuracy. Thermal energy storage (TES) using phase change materials (PCMs) is one of the potential solutions for stockpiling thermal energy and utilizing it for different applications, which results in effective energy usage. The main drawback of organic PCMs in practical applications is poor heat transfer due to low thermal conductivity (TC). Therefore, investigations into nano-enhanced PCMs are being explored to improve their thermophysical properties. In this work, the various thermophysical characteristics of nano-enhanced lauryl alcohol as a PCM were investigated using carbon-based and metallic nanoparticles. The results indicated that the addition of nanoparticles improved its thermal properties and affected other physical properties, such as viscosity. The latent heat was degraded with the addition of nanoparticles. The results revealed that by adding MWCNTs and CuO nanoparticles, a maximum of 82.6% and 49.6% improvement in TC was achieved, respectively. The maximum drop in latent heat during melting and freezing for the PCM with MWCNTs was about 10.1% and 9.3%, respectively, whereas for the PCM with CuO, they were about 11% and 10.3%, respectively. The lowest supercooling for the PCM with MWCNTs and CuO nanoparticles was 8.6 and 8.3 °C, respectively. This paper presents a detailed exploration of the development and characterization of multifunctional dual-purpose woven fabrics for thermal protective clothing. Through this research, 69 woven fabric prototypes have been carefully designed and produced, integrating various raw materials, yarn, and woven fabric construction parameters, with the aim of optimizing thermal protection properties while ensuring comfort and durability. The analysis led to the identification of two optimal woven fabric samples, which, upon further testing, exhibited exceptional dimensional stability, crease recovery, tear resistance, as well as abrasion and water resistance. Furthermore, the thermal properties were evaluated, demonstrating exceptional flame resistance, limited heat transmission, and high thermal insulation. Additionally, the study evaluated dynamic thermal properties, contact conductive heat transfer, air permeability, water vapour resistance, and thermal resistance of two clothing systems constructed from selected woven fabrics. Statistical analysis confirms significant differences between clothing systems, highlighting the influence of yarn composition and fabric structure on thermal performance and comfort, where one system exhibits better thermal insulation characteristics suitable for colder environments while the other excels in breathability for warmer climates. The developed woven fabrics meet high standards for protective clothing against heat and flame, surpassing currently available comparable woven fabrics on the market in terms of efficacy and performance. Modelling effective thermal properties is crucial for optimizing the thermal performance of materials such as new green insulating fibrous media. In this study, a numerical model is proposed to calculate the effective thermal conductivity of these materials. The fibers are considered to be non-overlapping and randomly oriented in space. The numerical model is based on the finite element method. Particular attention is paid to the accuracy of the results and the influence of the choice of the representative elementary volume (REV) for calculation (cubic or rectangular parallelepiped slice). The calculated effective thermal conductivity of fibrous media under different boundary conditions is also investigated. A set of usual mixed boundary conditions is considered, alongside the uniform temperature gradient conditions. The REV rectangular slice and uniform temperature gradient boundary conditions provide a more accurate estimate of the effective thermal conductivity and are therefore recommended for use in place of the usual cubic representative elementary volume and the usual mixed boundary conditions. This robust model represents a principal novelty of the work. The results are compared with experimental and analytical data previously obtained in the literature for juncus maritimus fibrous media, for different fiber volume fractions, with small relative deviations of 7%. Analytical laws are generally based on simplified assumptions such as infinitely long fibers, and may neglect heat transfer between different phases. The use of nanofluids in heat transfer applications has significantly increased in recent times due to their enhanced thermal properties. It is therefore important to investigate the flow behavior and, thus, the rheology of different nanosuspensions to improve heat transfer performance. In this study, the viscosity of a BN-diamond/thermal oil hybrid nanofluid is predicted using four machine learning (ML) algorithms, i.e., random forest (RF), gradient boosting regression (GBR), Gaussian regression (GR) and artificial neural network (ANN), as a function of temperature (25–65 °C), particle concentration (0.2–0.6 wt.%), and shear rate (1–2000 s−1). Six different error matrices were employed to evaluate the performance of these models by providing a comparative analysis. The data were randomly divided into training and testing data. The algorithms were optimized for better prediction of 700 experimental data points. While all ML algorithms produced R2 values greater than 0.99, the most accurate predictions, with minimum error, were obtained by GBR. Silicone foam (SF) is a porous silicone rubber with a lower density, higher elasticity, and good thermal stability. In this work, we selected aluminum spheres and carbon fiber (CF) as thermally conductive fillers to prepare hybrid SF. After optimization, we found that Al and CF hybrid SF (Al-CF-SF) has a higher thermal conductivity (1.37 W·m-1·K-1) than the single-filler filled SF (CF-SF, 1.2 W·m-1·K-1 or Al-SF, 0.52 W·m-1·K-1) under the same filling amount of 60 wt%. The finite element simulation was used further to explore the thermal conductive mechanism of the hybrid SF. Meanwhile, the compressive and tensile modulus of the material (CF-SF) was increased to 10.8 and 3.3 MPa compared with pure SF, respectively, and the mechanical properties were improved. The layered fibers of carbon-fiber-reinforced polymer (CFRP) composites exhibit low thermal conductivity (TC) throughout their thickness due to the poor TC of the polymeric resin. Improved heat transmission inside the hydrogen storage tank during the filling process can reduce further compression work, and improved heat insulation can minimize energy loss. Therefore, it is crucial to understand the thermal properties of composites. This paper reports the thermal behavior of plain-woven CFRP composite using simulation at the micro-, meso-, and macro-scales. The TC was predicted numerically and compared to experimental findings and analytical models. Good results were found. Using the approach of multi-scale modeling, a parametric study was carried out to analyze in depth the influence of certain variables on thermal properties. The study revealed that both fiber volume fraction and temperature significantly influenced the TC of the composite, with the interphase fiber/matrix thickness following closely in terms of impact. Using thermal storage materials with excellent thermal properties in the energy utilization system enables efficient use of renewable energy sources. Organic phase change materials (PCMs) have the advantages of high heat storage density, no corrosion, and low cost, but low thermal conductivity and insufficient heat transfer capacity have always been the bottlenecks in their application. In this paper, melamine foam@ reduction graphene oxide (MF@rGO) and carbon foam@ reduction graphene oxide (CF@rGO) composite foams with double carbon networks were prepared by self-assembly method and further employed in 1-octadecinal (OD) PCMs. The microstructure, chemical composition, phase change behavior, thermal conductivity, and photothermal conversion performance of MF@rGO/OD and CF@rGO/OD were studied in detail using SEM, FTIR, Raman DSC, and LFA. The melting and solidification enthalpies of CF@rGO/OD composite PCMs were 208.3 J/g and 191.4 J/g, respectively, its thermal conductivity increased to 1.54 W/m·K, which is 6.42 times that of pure OD. The porous structure and high thermal conductivity of the double carbon network substantially enhance the efficiency of energy storage and release in composite PCMs. CF@rGO/OD composite PCMs have excellent heat storage performance and heat transfer capacity, and a wide range of application prospects in the fields of low-temperature solar heat storage, precision instrument temperature control, and intelligent buildings. Many studies on magnetorheological fluid (MRF) have been carried out over the last three decades, highlighting several salient advantages, such as a fast phase change, easy control of the yield stress, and so forth. In particular, several review articles of MRF technology have been reported over the last two decades, summarizing the development of MRFs and their applications. As specific examples, review articles have been published that include the optimization of the particles and carrier liquid to achieve minimum off-state viscosity and maximum yield stress at on-state, the formulation of many constitutive models including the Casson model and the Herschel–Bulkley (H–B) model, sedimentation enhancement using additives and nanosized particles, many types of dampers for automotive suspension and civil structures, medical and rehabilitation devices, MRF polishing technology, the methods of magnetic circuit design, and the synthesis of various controllers. More recently, the effect of the temperature and thermal conductivity on the properties of MRFs and application systems are actively being investigated by several works. However, there is no review article on this issue so far, despite the fact that the thermal problem is one of the most crucial factors to be seriously considered for the development of advanced MRFs and commercial products of application systems. In this work, studies on the thermal conductivity and temperature in MRFs themselves and their temperature-dependent application systems are reviewed, respectively, and principal results are summarized, emphasizing the following: how to reduce the temperature effect on the field-dependent properties of MRFs and how to design an application system that minimizes the thermal effect. Given the importance of thermal insulation in the walls of buildings to provide both electrical energy and thermal comfort in different weathers. In this research, the ANSYS-14 simulation program was used, considered one of the programs used to evaluate the thermal behavior of buildings, considering the effect of weather changes and building components during the steady and unsteady heat transfer of a composite wall from several layers. The simulation program was used for four types of insulation inside the wall with different thermal properties (Glass- Fiber Slab, Polyurethane Board, Hardboard (Medium) and Softwoods). A model was built for a traditional wall without an insulator and a model for a traditional wall that contains an insulator in different locations (from the outside, in the middle, and from the inside). Also, the model was isolated from the top and bottom surfaces, and each insulation material was applied in three locations in the wall. The conventional composite wall was exposed to a constant thermal load of 60 °C from the outside, and the inside wall was exposed to a thermal load of 25 °C This study focused on three steps. The first step is to know the best type of the four thermal insulators used in this study. The second step was to evaluate the best location of the insulator in the wall. The third step included the results of the previous two steps through which the best insulator was chosen and the best location in the wall. Three values of insulator thickness 2, 5 and 8 cm were used. Through the results of the study, it was found that placing the insulator on the outside of the wall plays a large role in reducing the rate of unsteady heat transfer and that its effect decreases by approaching the steady state, as it does not affect it in the case of the total steady state. The results also showed that the rate of unsteady heat transfer decreases by decreasing the thermal diffusivity of materials. It is also noticeable that the effect of the density and specific heat capacity appears clearly at the beginning of the thermal loading on the material. That effect decreases by approaching the steady state as the effect of the heat transfer coefficient of conduction appears. It was also found that both hardboard and polyurethane are the best in thermal insulation. It was also observed that the relationship between heat transfer rate and thickness is inverse-linear. The paper presents theoretical, experimental and numerical studies on the thermal behavior of mineral wool used in sandwich panels. The aim of this study is to investigate the thermal properties of mineral wool at elevated temperatures and provide a simple model that would allow us to determine the heat propagation in sandwich panels during a fire. The paper proposes a new method to experimentally evaluate thermal diffusivity, derived from theoretical premises. Experiments are conducted in a laboratory furnace where specimens are placed and temperatures inside specimens are measured. Different methods are used to process the test results and calculate the thermal diffusivity of mineral wool. The thermal insulation properties of building walls are critical to the overall energy efficiency and comfort of a building. One important factor that can affect these properties is the type of bricks used in construction. Bricks can vary in their geometry and thermal coefficient, which can impact their ability to transfer heat through the wall. The geometry of a brick can affect its thermal properties by altering the amount of air trapped within it and the surface area available for heat transfer. Hollow bricks or those with complex geometries may have lower thermal conductivity than regular solid bricks due to the air pockets trapped within them. Conversely, larger surface areas on the exterior of the brick can increase heat transfer. The thermal coefficient of clay, a common material used in brick production, is another important factor. Clay has relatively low thermal conductivity, meaning it is a poor conductor of heat. However, the quality of the clay, as well as the firing temperature and duration used in brick production, can impact its thermal coefficient. Higher firing temperatures and longer firing times can result in a more compact and dense clay brick, which can improve its thermal properties. In summary, the thermal insulation properties of building walls can be significantly affected by the type of bricks used in their construction. It is important to consider the geometry and thermal coefficient of the bricks when designing a building to achieve the desired level of thermal insulation. In this study, the experimental and numerical effects of using waste glass as aggregates of asphalt pavement are evaluated. The main reason for using this waste material as aggregates of hot mix asphalt (HMA) is to alleviate an environmental problem associated with asphalt pavements called urban heat islands. This phenomenon can increase the temperature in urban areas compared to their suburbs. Regarding the experimental part, two different HMA mixtures containing 100% limestone aggregates (HMAL) and 100% glass aggregates (HMAG) are made in this study. An experimental setup is used to simulate the solar radiations on top of HMA specimens. As a result, thermal parameters, including thermal conductivity, thermal diffusivity, and specific heat capacity, are measured and calculated using the heat transfer equations and the heat transfer test. These results are then used to develop finite element models for two different pavement structures with different asphalt concrete layers (one of them with HMAL and the other with HMAG). Furthermore, the air temperature data, extracted by TRNSYS software for Bechar city in Algeria, are used for modeling. The surface temperature, first and second temperatures in the asphalt pavement are obtained. The results revealed that using this waste aggregate increased the surface temperature during the day, which can make it susceptible to rutting. However, it reduced the surface temperature at night. More importantly, the HMAL absorbs 34% and released 47% more heat than HMAG during days and nights. Hence, the HMAG performance can mitigate the UHI effects. Phase change materials (PCMs) could be used in envelopes to moderate indoor temperature while hygroscopic materials could be used in envelopes to moderate indoor humidity. However, it remains unsolved whether these two materials are mixed to generate a better effect than single materials. Therefore, a transient model for coupled heat and moisture transfer through hygroscopic PCMs (HPCMs) was presented. The numerical cases of periodic boundary conditions and realistic weather conditions were conducted to investigate the heat and moisture transfer characteristics of three gypsum-based HPCMs containing different mass ratios of microencapsulated PCMs. Quantitative analyses were conducted to capture the effects of hygrothermal properties on heat and moisture transfer characteristics of HPCMs. The numerical results show that the mixing of PCMs and hygroscopic materials could generate a better temperature-humidity controlling effect than pure hygroscopic material, and the condensation risks inside the envelopes could also be reduced. Both the studied cases indicate that the HPCMs could be applied in building envelopes to passively moderate the indoor temperature and humidity simultaneously, reducing the building energy consumption and condensation risks inside the envelopes. The effects of hygroscopic and moisture transfer properties on temperature-control performance of HPCMs are relatively small, while the thermal properties play an important role in the improvement of temperature-humidity controlling performance of HPCMs with the increase of PCM concentration. The temperature distribution in a conductive-radiative rectangular profiled annular fin with internal heat generation is scrutinized in the present investigation. The nonlinear variation of thermal conductivity and heat transfer coefficient governed by the power law is considered. The analytical approximation for the non-dimensional temperature profile is obtained using the differential transform method (DTM)-Pade approximant. The nondimensionalization of the governing energy equation using dimensionless terms yields a nonlinear ordinary differential equation (ODE) with corresponding boundary conditions. The resulting ODE is analytically solved with the assistance of the DTM-Pade approximant procedure. Furthermore, the impact of thermal parameters on the temperature field and thermal stress is elaborated with graphs. The important results of the report divulge that temperature distribution greatly enhances with an augmentation of the heat generation parameter, but it gradually reduces with an increment in the magnitude of the thermogeometric and radiative-conductive parameter. The in situ mining technology is applied to the exploitation of medium- and low-maturity shale oil, which can use heaters to warm up the oil shale formations and pyrolyze the kerogen. Due to the low thermal conductivity of oil shale, electric heaters need extra equipment to improve heat transfer efficiency. In this study, a thermally conductive proppant is fabricated by coating epoxy-resin and graphite on ceramic proppants for the first time, which could support the fracturing crack and transfer heat. The thermal conduction property of epoxy-resin and graphite coated proppants (EGPs) is 245% higher than that of uncoated proppants, which can transfer more heat to the oil shale formation and accelerate the conversion of kerogen. The adhesive property of EGPs is improved by 47.9% under the load force of 1500 nN, which prolongs the time for the fracture to close. This research focuses on the thermal performance of masonry walls overlayed with textile reinforced concrete (TRC) sandwich panels subjected to different climatic zones. Three types of TRC sandwich panels are explored by integrating expanded polystyrene, gypsum and calcium silicate board as core material. The TRC sandwich panels are integrated as outer layers of clay brick masonry wall panels to reduce the amount of heat transfer. Numerical simulation has been carried out using transient heat transfer analysis to determine the performance of various systems under a realistic daily temperature variation in a hot humid and warm humid climatic zone. Thermal response of TRC sandwich panel integrated masonry is validated against the requirements of a design code accepted thermal performance. According to ISO and ASTM specifications, nanoparticles are described as the particles with a size in the range of 1-100 µm with one or more dimensions, being the base of nanotechnology. In this study, a comprehensive review on the thermodynamic effects of nanoparticles on thermal origin is carried out. Firstly, the classification of nanoparticles, which includes organic, inorganic, and carbon-based nanoparticles are introduced. Then, various applications of nanoparticles in many fields including cosmetics, sunscreens, electronics, catalysis, mechanics, manufacturing, materials, environment, and energy harvesting are briefly highlighted. A comprehensive review on the recent research trends on the impacts of nanoparticles on thermal origin is collected and summarized. Permafrost regions are experiencing increasing air temperatures, accelerating the thawing process, and thickening the active layer in summer. This can accelerate the release of greenhouse gasses into the atmosphere from the organic carbon stored in the permafrost. The long‐term thawing rates of permafrost below the active layer are governed by the soil thermal properties, the heat capacity, and thermal conductivity, which vary due to differences in grain sizes and distribution and organic matter content. Using nine column experiments comprised of fully saturated synthetic permafrost samples exposed to freeze–thaw cycles, the relative contributions of a range of soil grain sizes and organic matter contents on the soil thermal properties were investigated. The columns were subjected to a freeze and thaw cycle while soil temperatures were recorded in profiles. To infer the thermal properties from these experimental data, a numerical heat transfer model was used. The best fit between the observations and a batch of 5544 numerical models was used to find optimum values for permafrost thermal properties. The optimized heat capacity varied between 500 and 650 (J/m3 K) and thermal conductivity between 2.45 and 3.55 (W/m K). These optimized parameters were subsequently used to model a 100‐year permafrost active layer thaw scenario under warming air temperatures. Variations in the optimized thermal properties resulted in a time difference in thawing depth of 10–15 years and thawing depths varied between 9 and 10 m between the different optimized thermal properties at the end of the 100‐year scenario. The protective clothing packages, which protect the human body against hot factors in a foundry are in continuous development to increase their resistance and comfort of use. The problem of heat transfer through textiles is the active field of research and reliable numerical modeling of this process can be helpful to design high-quality protective products. Therefore, the numerical model of heat transfer through the package based on the aluminized basalt fabric was developed. The macroscopic geometry of weft and warp threads was reproduced in agreement with samples of plain weave basalt fabric. Mapping the stochastically distributed individual monofilaments in basalt threads, as well as modeling the heat transfer between them, was impossible at the microscopic level. Therefore, the weft and warp threads were modeled as a porous material with a homogeneous distribution of basalt and air in their structure. Data from measurements of the bare and aluminized basalt fabrics by the Alambeta device were used to determine the model parameters. The model was used to simulate the heat transfer through the protective package composed of the aluminized basalt fabric, wool clothing, and cotton underwear. A good agreement of model results was found for measurement results in such a package. The presented procedure allowed for the determination of the main thermal properties of tested basalt fabrics. The suspension of different nanoparticles into various conventional thermal fluids to synthesize nanofluids has been proven to possess superior thermal, optical, tribological, and convective properties, and the heat transfer performance over conventional thermal fluids. This task appears trivial but is complicated and significant to nanofluid synthesis and its subsequent utilization in diverse applications. The stability of mono and hybrid nanofluids is significantly related to stirring duration and speed; volume, density, and base fluid type; weight/volume concentration, density, nano-size, and type of mono or hybrid nanoparticles used; type and weight of surfactant used; and sonication time, frequency, mode, and amplitude. The effects of these parameters on stability consequently affect the thermal, optical, tribological, and convective properties, and the heat transfer performance of nanofluids in various applications, leading to divergent, inaccurate, and suspicious results. Disparities in results have inundated the public domain in this regard. Thus, this study utilized published works in the public domain to highlight the trend in mono or hybrid nanofluid formulation presently documented as the norm, with the possibility of changing the status quo. With the huge progress made in this research area in which a large quantum of different nanoparticles, base fluids, and surfactants have been deployed and more are still emerging in the application of these advanced thermal fluids in diverse areas, there is a need for conformity and better accuracy of results. Reproduction of results of stability, thermal, optical, tribological, anti-wear, and fuel properties; photothermal conversion; and supercooling, lubrication, engine, combustion, emission, thermo-hydraulic, and heat transfer performances of formulated mono or hybrid nanofluids are possible through the optimization and detailed documentation of applicable nanofluid preparation parameters (stirring time and speed, sonication duration, amplitude, mode, frequency, and surfactant concentration) employed in formulating mono or hybrid nanofluids. Amorphous materials are also distinguished from crystals by their thermal properties. The structural disorder seems to be responsible both for a significant increase in heat capacity compared to crystals of the same composition, but also for a significant decrease in thermal conductivity. The temperature dependence of thermal conductivity, unusual for common interpretations of solid-state physics, gave rise to a lot of debates. We review in this article different interpretations of thermal conductivity in amorphous materials. We show finally that the temperature dependence of thermal conductivity in dielectric materials can be understood by relating it to the disorder-dependent harmonic vibrational eigenmodes. The main objective of this paper was to investigate the heat transfer of modified lightweight refractory concrete at the microscopic scale. In this work, such material was treated as a porous composite based on the compound of calcium aluminate cement and aluminosilicate cenospheres. The presence of air inclusions within the cenospheres was an essential factor in the reduction in thermal performance. Due to the intricacy of the subject investigated, our research employed numerical, theoretical, and experimental approaches. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) imaging was performed to study the composite microstructure with a special focus on geometry, dimensions, and the distribution of cenospheres. Based on the experimental analysis, simplified geometrical models were generated to reproduce the main features of the composite matrix and cenospheres. A finite element framework was used to determine the effective thermal conductivity of such domains as well as the thermal stresses generated in the sample during the heat flow. A considerable difference in thermal properties was revealed by comparing the simulation results of the pure composite matrix and the samples, indicating a varying arrangement of cenosphere particles. The numerical results were complemented by a theoretical study that applied analytical models derived from the two-phase mixture theory—parallel and Landauer. Nanofluids (NFs) synthesized via the suspension of diverse nanoparticles into conventional thermal fluids are known to exhibit better thermal, optical, tribological, and convective properties, photothermal conversion, and heat transfer performance in comparison with traditional thermal fluids. Stability is pivotal to NF preparation, properties, performance, and application. NF preparation is not as easy as it appears, but complex in that obtaining a stable NF comes with the harnessing of different preparation parameters. These parameters include stirring duration and speed, volume, density, base fluid type, weight/volume concentration, density, nano-size, type of mono or hybrid nanoparticles used, type and quantity of surfactant used, and sonication time, temperature, mode, frequency, and amplitude. The effect of these preparation parameters on the stability of mono and hybrid NFs consequently affects the thermal, optical, rheological, and convective properties, and photothermal conversion and heat transfer performances of NFs in various applications. A comprehensive overview of the influence of these preparation characteristics on the thermal, optical, rheological, and properties, photothermal conversion, and heat transfer performance is presented in this paper. This is imperative due to the extensive study on mono and hybrid NFs and their acceptance as advanced thermal fluids along with the critical importance of stability to their properties and performance. The various preparation, characterization, and stability methods deployed in NF studies have been compiled and discussed herein. In addition, the effect of the various preparation characteristics on the properties (thermal, optical, rheological, and convective), photothermal conversion, and heat transfer performances of mono and hybrid NFs have been reviewed. The need to achieve optimum stability of NFs by optimizing the preparation characteristics is observed to be critical to the obtained results for the properties, photothermal conversion, and heat transfer performance studies. As noticed that the preparation characteristics data are not detailed in most of the published works and thus making it mostly impossible to reproduce NF experimental studies, stability, and results; future research is expected to address this gap. Knowledge of the thermal and dielectric properties of wolfberries is essential for understanding the heat transfer and the interaction between the electromagnetic field (10–3000 MHz) and the sample during radio frequency (RF) and microwave (MW) drying. The thermal and dielectric properties of wolfberries were determined as influenced by moisture content from 15.1% to 75.2%, w.b.) and temperature from 25 to 85 °C. The results showed that as the moisture content increased from 15.1% to 75.2% (w.b.), the true density of wolfberries decreased, but the specific heat capacity and thermal conductivity increased with increasing temperature and moisture content. The dielectric properties (DPs) of wolfberries decreased with increasing frequency from 10 to 3000 MHz. The dielectric constant increased with increasing temperature at lower a moisture content (below 45% w.b.) but decreased with increasing temperature at a high moisture content (above 60% w.b.). The cubic and quadratic polynomial models (R2 = 0.977 − 0.997) were best for fitting the dielectric constant and loss factor at four representative frequencies of 27, 40, 915, and 2450 MHz, respectively. The penetration depth increased with the decreased frequency, temperature, and moisture content, and was greater at RF frequencies than MW range, making the RF heating more effective for drying bulk wolfberries. In this research, two alternative approaches to fractional derivatives, namely Caputo–Fabrizio (CF) and Atangana–Baleanu (AB) fractional operators, are used to propose a generalized model of thermoelastic heat transfer of a rigid cylinder with thermal characteristics. The proposed model can be constructed by combining the DPL model with phase delays and the two temperature theories. It will be taken into account that the solid cylinder has variable physical properties. It was also assumed that the surface of the cylinder is penetrated by a continuous magnetic field and is regularly exposed to thermal loading from a continuous heat source. The numerical solutions of the studied physical fields in the AB and CF fractional derivative cases were derived using the Laplace transform method and are compared visually and tabularly and discussed in detail. Carbonate sands (CS) have the potential to be utilized as construction materials, and their porous particles may bring unique thermal properties, which is critical for the thermal design of geosystems; however, this area of research is highly understudied. The present work provides a new contribution in this field by investigating the thermal conductivity (λ) of five uniform fractions of CS from the South China Sea, with emphasis on the influence of particle size and relative density of the sand. The impact of the size of particles on the index void ratios and thermal conductivity of the samples was profoundly different from that of silica sands. Contrary to silica sands, the extreme void ratio (emax, emin), which is critical for calculation of relative density, of the CS increased as the mean grain size increased. The maximum thermal conductivity of each fraction was negatively correlated with the particle size, and the thermal conductivity of the finer fractions exhibited higher sensitivity to the packing density. Literature models were found to be ineffective in predicting the thermal conductivity of the CS given the unique thermal energy transferring mechanisms of the porous particles. Two thermal conductivity models, stemming from semi-analytical and empirical approaches, were proposed in the light of providing useful guidance for the thermal designs that include CS. To design polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS)-based nanocomposites with high thermal conductivity, multiscale simulations were adopted to study the effect of the modified hexagonal boron nitride (h-BN) and the layer number of h-BN on the interface improvement of nanocomposites. The results indicate that 6-aminocaproic acid (ACA) effectively improves the interfacial thermal conductivity of the composites. The interaction energy between h-BN modified by ACA (ACA@h-BN) and PDMS is enhanced compared to that of an unmodified h-BN/PDMS composite system. It's interesting that the change rate of thermal conductivity (δ) decreases first and then increases with the increase in the layer number of ACA@h-BN, and gradually increases to a value more equal to that of the single-layer system when the layer number of ACA@h-BN reaches 5. The interfacial thickness increases from 1.93 Å to 2.60 Å as the layer number of ACA@h-BN increases from 1 to 6, which is beneficial to improve the thermal conductivity. However, the matching coefficient (M) of the phonon vibration power spectrum between PDMS and ACA@h-BN decreases from 0.024 to 0.011 as the layer number of ACA@h-BN increases from 1 to 6, which impairs the thermal conductivity. The decrease in M dominates the δ in the composites filled by h-BN with 1–3 layers. The thermal conductivity is more affected by the specific gravity of ACA@h-BN than M in the composites filled by h-BN with 4–6 layers. It is proposed that the ideal single-layer ACA@h-BN can be replaced to some extent by the ACA@h-BN with 5 layers to improve the thermal properties of the composites. Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) are promising porous materials for various applications, which have attracted considerable attention recently. Optimizing their thermal properties, such as their heat accumulation characteristics during the adsorption of fluid molecules, is crucial for enhancing their performance. Molecular dynamics studies are vital for meticulously understanding the thermal transport of MOFs. To determine the thermal conductivity of MOFs using the Green–Kubo formula through equilibrium molecular dynamics (EMD), the heat current autocorrelation function (HCACF) must be truncated at a specific time. However, few studies have been conducted on establishing a method for truncating HCACFs for MOFs, rendering it challenging to assess the reliability of MOF thermal conductivities calculated through EMD. In addition, previous studies focused on the overall thermal conductivity, and the contribution of the components have not been identified. In this study, we devised a method for determining the truncation time of an HCACF to calculate the thermal conductivity of MOFs. After confirming the validity of the method, we decomposed the instantaneous heat flux into individual components and obtained the decomposed thermal conductivities. The results revealed that the contribution of the interaction of atoms was more pronounced than that of the microscopic convection of atoms. In addition, the method introduces an ambiguity while calculating the thermal conductivity of MOFs through EMD. Carbyne is a sp1 linear carbon chain (LCC) with characteristics of strong chemical reactivity and extreme instability under environmental conditions, which has become an obstacle to the application of LCC with high thermal and electrical conductivity. Utilizing CNT as a container to store LCC is one of the most feasible ways to realize LCC applications. However, current research of LCC encapsulated in CNT (LCC@CNT) focuses on its preparation and lacks of in-depth exploration of the intrinsic heat transfer mechanism. This paper reports the high axis thermal conductivity of LCC@CNT, explore the thermal transport enhancement degree of LCC@CNT under a wide temperature range and multiple diameters, and analyzed the underling mechanism through crucial thermal parameters and phonon theory. When LCC is loaded in CNT, the axial thermal conductivity of CNT is further increased by 15 %. Moreover, LCC@CNT shows the lower sensitivity diameter than pristine CNT. This study investigates the thermal-stress characteristics of a bi-metallic Ti-6Al-4V-Nitinol butt joints manufactured via laser welding. Particularly, the thermal profile along the weld interface and the deformation profile of the finished welded workpiece. A decoupled transient thermomechanical simulation model was constructed to recreate the welding process. This decoupled thermomechanical simulation model consisted of two transient simulation models. A transient thermal simulation model and a transient structural simulation model, with the thermal history of the transient thermal model being fed into the transient structural model. Both the thermal and structural portions of the model utilized temperature-dependent thermal and structural properties of Ti-6Al-4V and Nitinol. The temperature profile of the transient thermal-stress model aligns with the experimental thermal profile within 5% error. The deformation profile also matches the experimental results within 5% error. The design of medium- to high-frequency power electronics transformer aims not only to minimize the power loss in the windings and the core, but its heat removal features should also allow optimal use of both core and copper. The heat removal feature (e.g., thermal conduction) of a transformer is complex because there exist multiple loss centers. The bulk of total power loss is concentrated around a small segment of the core assembly where windings are overlaid. The primary winding is most constrained thermally. For superior use of core and copper, the temperature rise in different segments of the transformer should be well below their respective safe operating limits. In practice, cores of same soft-magnetic materials are traditionally used. To achieve superior temperature profile and for better long-term performance, this article proposes to use the mixed-core configuration. The new core(s) would replace the parent ones from the segment where windings are laid. The characteristic features of new cores would share increased burden of heat removal from the transformer. To obtain the qualitative insight of magnetic and thermal performance, the proposed mixed-core transformer would be thoroughly validated practically in two different high-power applications. Ethylene glycol with nanoparticles behaves as a non-Newtonian fluid and its rheology can be best predicted by the power-law rheological approach. Further nanoparticles (molybdenum disulfide and silicon dioxide) are responsible for anti-oxidation, anti-evaporation, and anti-aging. Therefore, their dispersion in ethylene glycol is considered as these properties make the nanofluid stable. This article examines the impact of molybdenum disulfide and silicon dioxide on the thermal enhancement of ethylene glycol as it is a worldwide used coolant. Moreover, simultaneous effects of temperature and concentration gradients, Joule heating, viscous dissipation, thermal radiations, and buoyancy forces are modeled and developed, and investigations are computed by the finite element method. An increase in temperature due to the composition gradient and an increase in concentration due to the temperature gradient are observed. A significant increase in the Ohmic phenomenon with an increase in the intensity of the magnetic field is observed. Numerical experiments are performed by considering single-type nanoparticles (MoS2) and hybrid-type nanoparticles (simultaneous dispersion of SiO2 andMoS2is considered). During the visualization of simulations, the effective thermal conductivity of MoS2-SiO2-ethylene glycol is observed.

A firefighter in the wildland fields spends an average of 8 to 16 h during which he encounters enormous physical effort and very demanding outdoor conditions of high temperatures. Research shows that the most common injuries are due to the occurrence of heat stress, and not due to lack of protection against burns. Therefore, for this very specific field of firefighting, it is necessary to provide clothing that will, in addition to adequate flame protection, provide good comfort properties such as lightweight suits, good porosity and breathability, so that gaseous sweat and heat generated by body heating can be released into the environment. The aim of this study was to determine the influence of structural parameters of multi-weft woven fabrics on two mutually contradictory properties—breathability and thermal protection. When designing fabrics, the goal was to produce a structure with a high proportion of volume pores, which, regardless of the increased volume of the fabric, insure the fabric mass would be acceptably small. Volume pores in the fabric have two roles—as a heat insulator and as an inhibitor of the breathability of the material. The analysis of the obtained results showed that the thickness and mass of the fabric have a greater influence on the water vapor resistance, while the heat transmission property is more affected by the thickness, porosity and fiber content. Device optimization plays a paramount role in current research on magnetic refrigeration. Solid state refrigerants have been characterized and numerical simulations assume a critical relevance in the development of magnetocaloric technology to have alternatives to vapour-compression systems whose operating elements have high global warming potential. Experimental studies have shown that the thermal properties of several magnetocaloric materials considerably change around their Curie temperatures ( T C ) and that this temperature dependency should not be dismissed. Current numerical research does not fully predict the complete thermal response of such materials, due to inaccuracies from neglecting the impact of combining both thermal conductivity (k) and specific heat ( C p ) dependence on temperature. In this study, a simple unidimensional model includes k (T) and C p (T) functions as input parameters, highlighting the relevance of considering temperature dependent thermophysical properties' inputs when simulating the magnetic refrigerant's heat transfer processes. The obtained results evidence that neglecting the temperature dependence of the magnetocaloric material thermophysical properties, namely its thermal conductivity and its specific heat, affects its temperature response, what may strongly affect the results after a succession of (hundreds or thousands) cycles. Long hollow cylinders are commonly utilized in various technological applications, including liquid and gas transmission. As a result, its value is growing, becoming increasingly important to many research efforts. Compared with thermal isotropic homogeneous cylinders, thermo-viscoelastic orthotropic cylinders have less relevant data. In this paper, a thermoelastic fractional heat conduction model was developed based on the Moore-Gibson-Thompson equation to examine the axial symmetry problem of a viscoelastic orthotropic hollow cylinder. Atangana and Baleanu derivative operators with nonsingular and nonlocal kernels were used in constructing the fractional model. The thermal properties of the cylinder materials are assumed to be temperature-dependent. The Laplace transform is applied to solve the system of governing equations. The numerical calculations for temperature, displacement, and stress components are performed by the effect of fractional order, rotation, and changing thermal properties of the cylinder. The results showed that due to the presence of fractional derivatives, some properties of the physical fields of the medium change according to the value of the fractional order. The ampacity of buried cables is significantly influenced by the thermal properties of the burial environment. When these thermal properties are not homogeneous it is usually necessary to utilize simulations with a relatively high computational cost that may also use commercial software. In this paper an alternative approach is proposed using conformal maps. Temperature is calculated in an annular domain which is a conformal mapping of the half plane space. Circumferential dependence is captured by expanding temperature as a Fourier series, a finite difference solver then determines temperature components radially. The model is as flexible as any two-dimensional slice model of heat transfer through thermal conduction only. Two case studies are considered: three land-based cables in planar configuration and a submarine export cable. The thermal properties of both burial environments are based on conditions which may be encountered in the field and exhibit a high level of stratification. Using a finite element analysis simulation as a benchmark, typical percentage differences in cable ampacities were 0.5%−1%. In addition to accuracy and flexibility the low computational cost of the proposed approach allows for large parameter sweeps, which may be required in a design phase, without requiring commercial software. This paper considers the artificial freezing of an argillite-like clay layer containing a NaCl salt solution in its pore space. The experimental results of the thermophysical properties of the clay with various salinities and water content in soil samples are presented. We determine the parameters of the soil freezing characteristic curves, the dependences of the specific heat capacity, and thermal conductivity based on temperature and salinity. These parameters are used in the formulation of a simple thermodynamic model for the artificial freezing of a clay layer with a single freezing pipe. The model includes diffusive transfer of heat and salt concentration, as well as salt precipitation when the eutectic point is reached. The motivation for using the simplified model is to understand the general patterns of soil freezing when considering the effect of salinity, as well as to test the proposed numerical finite-difference algorithm for solving the problem of freezing a clay layer based on the method of equivalent heat capacities. Using the algorithm, we analyzed the regularities of the redistribution of dissolved and precipitated salt in frozen soil, and also evaluated the effect of diffusive salt transfer on the numerical solution. In order to predict the evolution of the vulcanization process of cork-rubber slabs, a numerical approach was developed combining heat transfer by conduction and kinetics models. A one-dimensional model was applied to predict the evolution of temperature and degree of cure at different stages of the vulcanization of a cork-rubber composite. Also, due to the degradation verified by the compound, an existent reversion model was added to the problem. Based on rheometer data, cure and reversion parameters were determined. Experimental data were used to determine the thermal properties of the compound, assuming a constant value or according to its degree of cure and temperature. The results obtained by simulation showed a good correspondence with experimental results, even when assuming constant thermal properties. The application of the proposed methodology provides information about the optimum process parameters for each thickness slab, without compromising the homogeneity and characteristics of the final product, which can be a valuable tool during the development and product stages of cork-rubber composites. This paper aimed to improve the thermal and waterproof properties of foamed concrete through the synergic work of nano SiO2 aerogel powder (NSAP) and organosilicon waterproofing agent (OWA). Hence, several series of foamed concrete with a 0–3.0% of OWA and with 1–4% of NSAP addition were developed. The results show that OWA can decrease the dry bulk density, compressive strength, water absorption rate, and thermal conductivity. With the addition of NSAP, the water absorption rate reached a minimum value of 9.2% at 3.0% NSAP, while the thermal conductivity continued decreasing. Through the microscopic pore size distribution, XRD, and SEM, it was found that the addition of NSAP had no effect on the type of hydration product, but it can increase the average pore size and the amount of macropore and weaken the interfacial adhesion between hydration products. Comparing the heat transmission model, the presence of NSAP increased the heat transmission pathway and resistance, resulting in lower thermal conductivity. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

• An H-type measurement device was used for the thermophysical characterization of single microparticles. • The interfacial thermal resistance between single microparticles was analyzed by analytical thermal resistance model. • The effects of temperature and size on the heat transfer performance of microparticles were studied. • The uncertainty of the whole experimental system is about 4.4 %. With the incorporation of microparticles in composite materials becoming increasingly widespread, it is important to study the effect of the thermophysical properties and thermal contact between individual microparticles on heat transfer in composite materials. However, studies on the heat transfer performance of single microparticles are scarce, mainly because the micrometre scale size makes the measurement difficult. Furthermore, the area of contact between microparticles is smaller than the micrometre scale, further enhancing the difficulty of heat measurements. In this study, an H-type measurement device was developed for the thermophysical characterization of single microparticles. Through experimental and theoretical analyses, we obtained the thermal conductivity and thermal resistance of single microparticles of silicon dioxide, polyethylene (PE), poly ether ketone (PEEK) and polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA), apart from the interfacial thermal resistance between two PMMA particles. This paper models the thermal transport properties and performance of a water-based CuO nanofluid (with varying volume fractions of CuO) in a laboratory-sized double pipe heat exchanger (DPHE). Copper oxide (CuO) nanoparticles were used and their quantity was varied from a volume fraction of 0% to 0.1% with an incremental step size of 0.025%. The mass flow rates of the hot and cold fluids were maintained at 0.87 kg/s and 0.9 kg/s, respectively. Simulation results revealed that temperatures of 410 and 306.75 K, respectively, were attained at the hot and cold fluid outlets. Analysis of the DPHE showed that for cold fluids, thermophysical properties such as viscosity, thermal conductivity, specific heat capacity (SHC) and density were enhanced by the addition of nanoparticles. The temperature distribution, effectiveness and the heat transfer in the DPHE were observed to linearly increase with increment increases of the nanoparticle volume fraction.

Efficiently thermal management in electronic devices calls for creating polymer composites that have superior thermal transport abilities. Compared with single-filler composites, hybrid-filler composites have gained significant attention as they not only utilize the advantages of each filler individually but also allow for the potential cooperation in constructing filler networks between them. Differing from the previous research on hybrid-filler size, geometry, composition, and content and their impact on thermal conductivity (TC) in composites, this study aims to examine the spatial distribution effects of hybrid-fillers. A binary-filler strategy comprising of anisotropic 2D h- BN and 0D isotropic S–Al 2 O 3 has been proposed, with the primary h -BN filler aligned to filly utilize its anisotropy and intrinsic TC properties. Furthermore, positioning a small quantity of S–Al 2 O 3 between adjacent parallel h -BN considerably improves TC in the non-oriented direction of silicon rubber (SiR) composites. A special focus is given to the influence of the interstitial S–Al 2 O 3 filler on the individual through-plane TC (λ ⊥) and in-plane TC (λ ⫽) variation of the binary-filler hybrid SiR composites, which are perpendicular and parallel to the oriented h -BN. When incorporating 40 vol% h -BN and 5 vol% S–Al 2 O 3 , the binary SiR composites exhibit the highest concurrent λ ⫽ and λ ⊥ values of 14.581 and 2.132 W/m·K, respectively. The corresponding effects on the ductility, hardness, and dielectric properties of the SiR composites were explained. Moreover, the use of commercially available TC fillers, along with the effortless preparation method, enables the potential to produce h -BN based TIMs materials on a large scale for thermal management usage. This study explores the use of copper foam (CF) as a thermally conductive scaffold for phase change materials (PCMs), enhancing shape stability. Employing the ice template method (ITM), we fabricate a CF with a low-density, honeycomb structure and anisotropy from flake copper powders. The resulting phase change composites (PCCs), infused with paraffin wax (PW), showcase high thermal conductivity and shape retention compared to pure PW, with anisotropic heat flow due to directional channels in the CF. With a 34.4 wt% filling ratio, the PCCs achieve axial and lateral thermal conductivities of 2.85 W m−1 K−1 and 1.51 W m−1 K−1, respectively, and a thermal storage enthalpy of 158.18 J g−1. CFRP composite laminates decompose by pyrolysis/oxidation when exposed to high heat fluxes. While gaseous and solid residues created within the composite material are ignored in most models, a multi-species approach is proposed to describe transient decompositions from the virgin to the final charred state of the material. The model is based on a porous medium description that includes gas creation and transport within the laminate, respectively driven by Arrhenius and Darcy's laws. Orthotropic heat transfer and decomposition gas transport within the laminate up to the surface remain often uninvestigated while it can drastically act upon the dynamics of a fire event. An experiment is carried out to analyze multi-dimensional heat and mass transfer during the charring processes of a composite laminate exposed to a high power laser beam. The motorized spindle will produce a lot of heat at high speed, thereby making the physical structures deformed and changing the bearing performances. However, the interaction between thermal and mechanical characteristics has not been deeply studied. This paper aimed to consider the coupling of interference fit, centrifugal effect, and thermal effect in these components to build a comprehensive and optimized spindle model. Firstly, the displacements related to contact angles under the thermo-mechanical coupling effect were analyzed, and the oil film factor was added to the bearing static model to be studied together with centrifugal force and gyroscopic moment of the ball. Next, based on thermal network method, a quasi-3D model of cooling water pipe was established by considering its structural characteristics. Meanwhile, for the discussion of the number of balls and their thermal resistances, the heat transfer between the bearing ring and the ball was investigated and improved. Lastly, the influences of thermal characteristics on bearings parameters and spindle temperature rise were investigated under different speed, cooling water, and oil-air variables, which provide a reference for regulating and controlling motorized spindle.
