Objective: to understand the perspective of nurses on the transitional care of the person with chronic noncommunicable disease from hospital to home. Method: qualitative, exploratory and descriptive study. The study scenario was a University Hospital in southern Brazil. Data collection occurred through semi-structured interviews with 28 nurses and managers, between July 2018 to May 2019, in which the analyses were made by the themes. Results: The nurses point out some strategies of transition of the care, as the inclusion of the caregiver in the orientations and the telephone contact. They also indicate the need for recognition of the health network by professionals and the challenge of articulation between different services. Final considerations: the transitional care goes beyond the reductionist logic of simple individualized orientation to hospital discharge. The nurse can lead the change and promote the consolidation of safe and qualified practices, due to its insertion in the various scenarios of health care. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Introduction: The intensive care unit (ICU) stay generates feelings of lack of control, uncertainty, and anxiety in the patient and their families related to a lack of information and communication about the health-disease process experienced and the treatment. Objective: to describe the characteristics of communication in the ethnos between the nurse and the family member of the hospitalized patient. Method: a qualitative study with a micro ethnographic approach that used Bardin's proposal for the analysis. The participants were 12 relatives of patients hospitalized in the adult ICU in Bucaramanga and Floridablanca (Colombia) during 2016. A semi-structured interview was conducted with five questions about communication with the nurse practitioner. Results: most of the participants were women, university students, and daughters from cities other than the place of the interview. The main theme that emerges was communication: an honest, direct, and authentic relationship between human beings, made up of four categories: information as the central axis of communication in ICU; communication that is not expressed in words, which is even more important in the relationship; communication does not flow if there is no time, disposition, and conditions to establish the relationship; and communication generates positive feelings and satisfaction. Conclusion: communication as a social process framed in the ICU as a particular ethnos demand from the nurse practitioners’ qualities such as kindness, cordiality, empathy, recognition, and understandable language, as well as feedback and willingness to establish and maintain this vital process for human relationships. Objective: to understand the care for the frail elderly provided by family-related inpatient caregivers, as well as their interaction with the Family Health Strategy, from the perspective of caregivers. Method: exploratory-descriptive, qualitative study conducted with 17 informal family-related caregivers of frail elderly from a Family Health Strategy in Minas Gerais, Brazil. Data collected between September/2019 and February/2020, through an interview with semi-structured script and questionnaire. Content analysis was performed, thematic type. Results: most caregivers were women, 26-79 years old, white and brown, married and low schooling. Effective communication between the health team and the family/elderly caregiver, to the detriment of high turnover of professionals of the Family Health Strategy, excessive demand for functions and lack of training and technical ability of the caregiver. Final thoughts: care for the frail elderly belonged to the female universe and aroused a mixture of feelings. Background: The working conditions of emergency department professionals and the technification of healthcare have had a negative impact on the healthcare professional-patient relationship, dehumanizing it. Objective: This qualitative study explored nurses' perspectives about the humanization of healthcare in Spanish emergency departments. Methodology: A qualitative design, centred on the opinions of 11 nurses working in the emergency department was applied via semi-structured interviews. Data were analysed using the content analysis technique. Results: Two main themes were identified: The dimensions of humanized healthcare and implementing humanized healthcare at emergency departments, as well as five subthemes. Conclusion: Recommendations are put forward to strengthen initiatives for implementing integrated models of healthcare assistance. The implementation of holistic, patient and family-oriented healthcare is essential to guaranteeing humanized healthcare at the emergency department. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective: To identify the perception of the nursing team about the motivational factors in the work environment. Methods: An exploratory study with a qualitative approach, carried out from January to February, 2015, in the pediatrics sector of a reference hospital of medium complexity, with 12 nursing technicians and nine nurses. The data collection was based on interviews guided by a semi-structured instrument and the data collected were analyzed according to Bardin. Results: The main factors that could contribute to the motivation of the nursing team were: sufficient supply of materials; motivational meetings; standardization of conduits and elaboration of assistance protocols; training courses and training; increased communication and feedback among the team of activities performed. The factors that discouraged them were: lack of recognition of the profession, lack of material, poor remuneration, excessive workload, high number of patients and nonconstructive criticism. Conclusions: The results identified could contribute with nursing managers to the planning of strategies that aim to increase the motivation in the professionals of the team. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Theoretical framework: Over the years there has been substantial change in the amount of nursing documentation arising from the daily use of information technologies by health professionals. Physicians are the greatest consumers of the information collected, processed and documented by nurses, given the relevance of this information to the clinical decision-making process. Objective: To identify and describe the information collected, processed and documented by nurses which is considered to be the most relevant for the medical profession. Methodology: A qualitative exploratory study using participant observation (98 hours) and semi-structured interviews (3) with key-informants, conducted in a hospital setting. Inductive content analysis of field notes and interviews was performed. Results: For physicians, the most relevant information depends on the context of the subject, the action and the professions, and was gathered into three categories: “monitoring parameters”; “medication and therapeutic attitudes”; and “intercurrent data”. Conclusion: Data collection strategies produced valid data to identify the most relevant information categories for physicians (“monitoring parameters”, “medication and therapeutic attitudes” and “intercurrent data”). This study aimed at describing the meanings that a group of hospitalized pregnant attributed to the experience of having preeclampsia. It is a qualitative research of ethno nursing type. To collect the information the Observation-participation-reflection guide, given by Leininger was taken into account. Open interviews were conducted to eight pregnant women as key informants and five nurses as general informants. The sample was obtained by saturation of information. During data analysis, the four phases proposed by Leininger were applied: data collection, identification and categorization of descriptors and components, analysis of context and patterns and establishment of central themes. The results of this research provide theoretical knowledge to give culturally coherent care to pregnant women with preeclampsia and thus be a complement to their comprehensive care. Women require the health care team that serves them to inform them clearly and comprehensively about their health situation, that of their unborn child and the care they need. Women know about signs and alarming symptoms of preeclampsia, but do not perceive them. The emotional, social and spiritual changes produced in women by their illness and hospitalization need to be considered for nursing care. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In this article we present the project we are carrying out in the 2010-2012 period (FIS: PS09/01449). This study is the continuation of the investigation we started in 2007 with the financing of the Consejeria de Salud of the Junta de Andalucia (the Andalusian Government Health Office) (PI424-2007) in which we analyze the Intercultural Communicative Competence of the Nursing professionals dealing with Muslim patients from the point of view of the professionals themselves. Now we aim at evaluating the Intercultural Communicative Competence of the Nursing professionals from the point of view of the Muslim immigrant users-patients. Objective: To know how the patients receiving the care value the Intercultural Communicative Competence of the nurses and nursing assistants. Methodology: Qualitative study, in-depth interviews and discussion groups as a data collecting strategy. Informants: men and women of Muslim tradition who have been hospitalized in one of the Public Hospitals of the province of Almería (Spain). Conclusion: Being aware of the perceived deficiencies will enable us to elaborate a series of suggestions-proposals for intervention aimed at improving the health care and attention offered to this collective of population.
