Background: Colorectal cancer (CRC) and its treatments cause significant acute, chronic, or latent adverse effects, leading to decreased physical function and quality of life. Robust evidence supports the positive effects of physical activity (PA) on various health outcomes in CRC patients. However, there is limited understanding regarding the factors that influence PA engagement, including facilitators, preferences, and barriers in this population. Purpose: This scoping review aims to document the breadth and depth of literature concerning the various aspects of PA participation among patients with CRC. We conducted a scoping review of PA among CRC patients. Methods: We searched several databases, including PubMed, Web of Science, Embase, and Cochrane, from their inception to 25 July 2023. Multiple reviewers were involved in all screening and data abstractions. The search yielded 834 individual citations after removing duplicates. After screening the titles and abstracts, 20 articles underwent full-text review, and 11 were included. Results: Our research findings indicate that among CRC patients, the most prevalent facilitators/preferences for PA are understanding its importance and perceiving its benefits, whereas treatment-related effects and lack of time are the most common barriers. Conclusion: CRC patients have unique facilitators and barriers concerning PA. Introduction: The COVID‐19 pandemic impacted healthcare organizations, necessitating a rapid transition from in‐person to virtual care. Our study explored the feasibility of a mixed in‐person/telerehabilitation intervention for cancer patients and its effects on cancer‐related fatigue (CRF), quality of life (QoL), physical function, patient satisfaction, and perceived usefulness. Methods: TRACE 2020 is an observational prospective study that enrolled adult cancer patients, between January 2021 and March 2023, who were eligible for a rehabilitation program to be provided also in telerehabilitation. Patients were assessed at baseline and after the rehabilitation program. Adherence to sessions, reasons for non‐adherence and adverse events were collected. Results: Of the 23 patients enrolled, 87% received a mixed intervention, with an average of 60% in‐person sessions and 40% telerehabilitation sessions. Adherence was very high (91%). Evaluation scales showed an improvement in CRF, QoL, and lower limb strength and a relevant increase in patients' level of physical activity (PA). Most patients reported good satisfaction; the few criticisms mainly concerned difficulties in connectivity, lack of physical contact and difficulties in understanding how to perform exercises during telerehabilitation sessions. The physiotherapist underlined the usefulness of the innovative approach and suggested ways to facilitate future implementation. Conclusion: A mixed intervention including telerehabilitation is feasible and accepted by cancer patients. It may have a positive effect on their CRF, QoL, and level of PA and render patient care more flexible. The findings suggest what characteristics the target population for telerehabilitation should have, in order to integrate telerehabilitation in standard care for cancer patients. The protocol predefined aim of this study is to assess sustained effects of the OptiTrain trial on several health outcomes, 5 years after the baseline assessment. The OptiTrain study was a prospective, randomised controlled trial with 240 patients with breast cancer undergoing adjuvant chemotherapy that compared the effects of 16 weeks of two exercise programs, RT-HIIT and AT-HIIT, with usual care (UC). After a 5-year follow-up, eligible participants were evaluated for the primary outcome of cancer-related fatigue (CRF) and secondary outcomes including quality of life, symptoms, muscle strength, cardiorespiratory fitness, body mass, physical activity, and sedentary behavior. Statistical analysis was conducted using linear mixed models adjusted for baseline values. Tumour profile and menopausal status were additionally adjusted for CRF. Mean differences (MD), 95% confidence intervals (CIs), and standardized effect sizes (ES) were reported. At the 5-year follow-up, there were no statistically significant differences in total CRF between the intervention groups and the UC group. RT-HIIT reported significantly reduced pain sensitivity at the gluteus MD = 79.00 (95% CI 10.17, 147.83, ES = 0.55) compared to UC. Clinically meaningful differences for an increase in cognitive CRF and cardiorespiratory fitness were observed for the AT-HIIT versus UC group, and for lower limb strength for the RT-HIIT versus UC group, albeit without statistical significance. Engaging in targeted exercise during adjuvant chemotherapy for breast cancer provides short-term benefits in reducing fatigue and maintaining physical function. However, our 5-year follow-up indicates that these effects are limited in the long term. Purpose: This study aims to investigate the impact of four exercise modes (aerobic exercise, resistance exercise, aerobic combined with resistance multimodal exercise, and stretching) on the physical performance of cancer patients. Methods: Randomized controlled trials (RCTs) were exclusively collected from PubMed, EMBASE, Web of Science, and The Cochrane Library, with a search deadline of April 30, 2023. Different exercise interventions on the physical performance of cancer patients were studied, and the Cochrane risk of bias assessment tool was employed to evaluate the quality of the included literature. Data analysis was conducted using STATA 15.1 software. Results: This study included ten randomized controlled trials with a combined sample size of 503 participants. Network meta-analysis results revealed that aerobic combined with resistance multimodal exercise could reduce fat mass in cancer patients (SUCRA: 92.3%). Resistance exercise could improve lean mass in cancer patients (SUCRA: 95.7%). Furthermore, resistance exercise could enhance leg extension functionality in cancer patients with sarcopenia (SUCRA: 83.0%). Conclusion: This study suggests that resistance exercise may be more beneficial for cancer-related sarcopenia.In clinical practice, exercise interventions should be tailored to the individual patients' circumstances. Background: A growing body of research indicates that poor functional status before chemotherapy may be correlated with the severity of chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN) after the neurotoxic treatment. However, little is known about the associations between pre-chemotherapy physical function and CIPN in patients with pancreatic cancer. Purpose: To identify the predictors of CIPN in relation to pre-chemotherapy physical function in patients with pancreatic cancer. Methods: This secondary analysis included data from patients with pancreatic cancer who participated in a longitudinal research study at National Cheng Kung University Hospital, Tainan, Taiwan. Four physical function tests (i.e., grip strength, Timed Up and Go (TUG), 2-minute step test (2MST), and Romberg test) and two questionnaires (The European Organisation for Research and Treatment of Cancer Quality of Life Questionnaire Core 30 [EORTC QLQ-C30] and Chemotherapy-Induced Peripheral Neuropathy Module [CIPN20]) were assessed at baseline (i.e., before first chemotherapy session) and 2-, 3-, 4-, and 6-month follow-up. Multiple linear regression with adjustment for confounding factors was used to assess the associations between the four functional tests at baseline and the CIPN20 total score and individual subscale scores (sensory, motor, and autonomic) at 6-month follow-up. Results: Data from a total of 209 pancreatic cancer patients (mean age: 64.4 years, 54.5% male) were analyzed. The findings showed that the severity of CIPN at 6-month follow-up was significantly associated with the baseline TUG completion time (β = 0.684, p = 0.003). The TUG completion time was also positively correlated with the 6-month CIPN sensory and autonomic subscales. In addition, a baseline positive Romberg test (β = 0.525, p = 0.009) was a significant predictor of the severity of motor neuropathy at 6-month follow-up. Conclusion: The TUG completion time and positive Romberg test before chemotherapy may be predictive factors of the CIPN severity 6 months after the commencement of chemotherapy. Accordingly, the incorporation of TUG and Romberg tests into the clinical assessment protocol emerges as imperative for individuals diagnosed with pancreatic carcinoma undergoing chemotherapy regimens. Background: Cancer treatments have many adverse effects on patient's health leading to poor cardiorespiratory capacity, muscular- degeneration, fatigue, loss of strength and physical function, altered body-composition, compromised immune-function, peripheral neuropathy, and reduced quality of life (QOL). Exercise programs can significantly increase functional capacity when tailored to individual needs, thus improving health. Exercise interventions in cancer rehabilitation, when supported by appropriate nutrition can be effective in attaining a healthy weight and body-composition. The successful rehabilitation program should also include psycho-social education aimed to reduce anxiety and improve motivation. Methods: The current study aimed to collect information on the post-treatment needs of cancer patients including barriers and expectations facing them, their caregivers and their families through consultation in focus group interviews. Cancer survivors living in the Republic of Ireland were recruited from the University Hospital Galway, community-based cancer centres, cancer support groups and social media platforms to participate in the study and attend a focus group interview. The focus group discussions were designed to obtain information on the collective views of cancer survivors on relevant topics selected. The topics were developed in consultation with a patient and public involvement (PPI) group supporting the study. The topics list was circulated to all participants prior to the focus group. The interviews were audio recorded and transcribed verbatim. Focus group transcripts were analysed subjected to a thematic framework analysis using NVivo. Results: Thirty-six participants took part in 9 focus groups. Our analysis uncovered two main themes. The first theme 'cast adrift with no direction' was grouped into three sub-themes: everything revolves around treatment; panic and fear; and what exercise should I be doing? The second theme 'everybody is different' was clustered into two sub-themes: side effects get in the way; and personalised exercise program. Conclusion: The study highlighted the lack of information and support needed by patients living with and beyond cancer. The study also highlighted the need for a personalised exercise programme designed to target the individual patient symptoms that would be ideal for the mitigation of long term symptoms and in improving QOL. Background: Cervical cancer is the second most prevalent and the leading cause of cancer related deaths among Ethiopian women; and about three fourth are diagnosed at advanced stages. Cervical cancer can affect the health-related quality of life (HRQOL) in multiple ways. The main aim of this study was to describe the HRQOL of cervical cancer patients and the predictive factors using validated tools. Methods: Institution based cross-sectional study was conducted among 264 cervical cancer patients using the validated Amharic version of European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer (EORTC) modules; QLQ-C30 and QLQ CX24. Descriptive statistics were used to summarize the raw data. One way ANOVA was used to determine the significance of mean differences between the dependent and independent variables. Binary and multivariable regression analysis were used to measure the association between Global Health Status and independent factors. The level of significance was set at p-value < 0.05. Results: On EORTC QLQ-C30 scales, the mean Global Health Status (GHS) was 42.57 ± 23.31. The least and highest affected functions were physical and social, mean (SD) = 76.39 ± 23.24 and 50.40 ± 32.19, respectively. The financial difficulty was the most affected among the symptom scales, 57.83 ± 35.34. Only physical function and financial difficulty have shown an independent association with GHS, (AOR = 0.21, 95% CI = 0.05–0.84), (AOR = 0.21 95% CI = 0.07–0.59), respectively. Illiterate, can read and write, were among the predictor factors that showed an independent association with the Global Health Status. Among the EORTC QLQ-CX24 symptom scales, the highest affected score was for sexual worry, mean (SD) = 51.81 + 32.197. Conclusions: In an effort to improve the Global Health Status of cervical cancer patients in Ethiopia; physical function and financial difficulty should be the priority areas. Background: The physical challenges faced by adolescents and young adults (AYA) after a cancer diagnosis may be different from those experienced by paediatric and older adult cancer patients. Patient‐reported outcome measures (PROMs) are valuable tools that can be useful in exploring the experiences of AYAs and identifying important issues, recurrent themes and areas to potentially improve quality of life. Objective: We compared patient‐reported physical function outcomes between AYAs diagnosed with cancer and non‐cancer controls. Method: This paper builds on a scoping review published in early 2023 and focuses on PROMs related to physical function. Results: This systematic review includes 16 studies that measured and reported on physical function PROMs in AYA cancer survivors compared with their cancer‐free peers. Of these studies, 14 found that physical function in AYA survivors was significantly worse. This paper also includes a meta‐analysis conducted on 5 studies using the EORTC‐QLQ‐C30 to measure physical function, which found that physical function score was an average of 7.03 (95% CI: −10.21, −3.86) points lower in the AYA cancer group, compared to their cancer free‐peers, a difference that is clinically meaningful. Conclusions: The results overwhelmingly demonstrate that AYAs post a cancer diagnosis have worse health‐related quality of life from a physical function perspective than their cancer‐free peers, providing a compelling argument for the need to address this issue. There are no models for assessing the factors that determine moderate to poor performance status in patients with cancer after chemotherapy. This study investigated the influencing factors and identified the best model for predicting moderate–poor performance status. A convenience sampling method was used. Demographic and clinical data and evaluation results for fatigue, pain, quality of life and Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group status were collected three days after the end of chemotherapy. Decision tree, random forest and logistic regression models were constructed. Ninety-four subjects in the case group had moderate to poor performance status, and 365 subjects in the control group had no or mild activity disorders. The random forest model was the most accurate model. Physical function, total protein, general quality of life within one week before chemotherapy, hemoglobin, pain symptoms and globulin were the main factors. Total protein and hemoglobin levels reflect nutritional status, and globulin levels are an index of liver function. Therefore, physical function, nutritional status, general quality of life and pain symptoms within one week before chemotherapy and liver function can be used to predict moderate–poor performance status. Simple Summary: Creative therapies like painting, dancing, and writing are often suggested to support the treatment of illnesses, severe illnesses, including cancer, but there are not many detailed studies on how well they work in hospitals. We asked women with cancer, their female family members, and female hospital workers about how creative therapies could make cancer treatment better. Out of 718 people who answered, most tried innovative therapies to feel better and be healthier. Many liked writing as a way to help themselves. The answers show that creative activities could help us understand how patients move, feel, and interact with others. Even though many patients do not usually talk to their doctors about their hobbies, many would like to include creative activities in their medical care. Also, people prefer to perform these creative activities in groups, meaning hospitals should think about organizing such group activities to help patients. Introduction: Although creative therapies like painting, dancing, and writing are often used and encouraged to treat various diseases, including cancer, there are few systematic scientific studies on innovative therapies in medical care. Methods: An anonymous survey was developed for female patients, their relatives, and female medical staff on the impact of creative therapies on optimizing clinical therapy management in exclusively female trials. Results: Of 718 respondents, 358 were female patients, 69 were medical personnel, and 291 were in the control group. Overall, 91.2% of respondents had sought access to creative therapies, indicating strong self-motivated engagement in activities to improve health and well-being. This study also uncovered a significant preference for creative writing among patients. Furthermore, the data suggest that integrating innovative therapies into biopsychosocial anamnesis could offer valuable insights into patients' mobility, mood, and social behaviors. Despite a general hesitation to discuss leisure activities with medical professionals, many patients wanted to incorporate creative activities into their treatment plans. Moreover, group settings for innovative therapy were preferred, highlighting the need for more structured support in medical environments to facilitate these therapeutic interactions. Background: Chlamydia pneumoniae (Cpn) IgG and IgA has been strongly linked to lung cancer, but its impact on patients' quality of life remains unclear. Our objective was to investigate the relationship between pre-treatment Cpn IgG and IgA and time to deterioration (TTD) of the HRQoL in patients with primary lung cancer. Methods: A prospective hospital-based study was conducted from June 2017 to December 2018, enrolling 82 patients with primary lung cancer admitted to the First Affiliated Hospital of Fujian Medical University for questionnaire surveys. Cpn IgG and IgA was detected by microimmunofluorescence method. HRQoL was assessed at baseline and during follow-up using the EORTC Quality of Life Questionnaire version 3.0 (EORTC QLQ-C30) and EORTC Quality of Life Questionnaire-Lung Cancer (EORTC QLQ-LC13). HRQoL scores were calculated using the QoLR package, and TTD events were determined (minimum clinically significant difference = 5 points). Cox regression analysis was used to evaluate the effect of Cpn IgG and IgA on HRQoL. Results: We investigated the relationship between Cpn IgG and IgA and quality of life in patients with primary lung cancer. The study was found that 75.61% of cases were Cpn IgG + and 45.12% were Cpn IgA +. Cpn IgA + IgG + was 41.46%. For EORTC QLQ-C30, Physical function (PF) and Pain (PA) TTD events on the functional scale and Symptom scale were the most common during follow-up. After adjusting for gender and smoking status, Pre-treatment Cpn IgA + was found to signifcantly delay TTD of Physical functioning(HR = 0.539, 95% CI: 0.291–0.996, P = 0.048). In addition, Cpn IgG + before treatment significantly delayed TTD in Emotional functioning (HR = 0.310, 95% CI: 0.115–0.836, P = 0.021). For EORTC QLQ-LC13, deterioration of dyspnea (LC-DY) was the most common event. However, Cpn IgG and IgA before treatment had no effect on the TTD of EORTC QLQ-LC13 items. This article discusses a study conducted in Iraq that evaluated the quality of life of women with breast cancer. The study found that most women experienced difficulties in their emotional, social, and role functioning. The article highlights the importance of a multidisciplinary team in improving the quality of life for breast cancer patients. Other studies have also shown that breast cancer negatively affects physical and cognitive performance, as well as social and role functioning. The study suggests that a multidisciplinary approach could help improve the quality of life for breast cancer patients, particularly in the areas most affected by the disease. Background: With improving survival rates, cancer has become more of a chronic disease with long-term palliative care requirements. Thus, it is even more than ever necessary to pay careful attention to the well-being of family caregivers of cancer patients, as cancer trajectory is a challenging path for both patients and their caregivers. This study focusses on ascertaining the level of quality of life (QoL) domains and their attributable significant factors among a population of cancer family caregivers. Methods: This was a cross-sectional study. The study population consist of caregivers of adult cancer patients in Zanjan, Iran between 2019 and 2020. Medical Outcomes General Health Survey Short Form 36 (SF-36) was the instrument to measure outcome variables. Clinical and basic characteristics of the caregivers and their patients were also collected using a questionnaire designed for this purpose. Data were analyzed using Independent samples t-test, Analysis of Variance, and stepwise linear regression in SPSS v.26. Results: Of the caregivers 167 were male and 133 were female. The mean age of the participants was 40.77 ± 12.56, most of whom were offspring of the patients (148, 49.3%), married (239, 79.7%), and self-employed (81, 27.0%). both domains of bodily pain (76.50 ± 16.67) and physical functioning (74.88 ± 20.27) showed the highest scores among caregivers. Age and gender of caregivers, duration of caregiving, Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group (ECOG) performance status scale as well as type and stage of cancer, and type of treatment were among the significant predictors of QoL domains (All, p < 0.001). Conclusion: Findings of the present study substantiated various significant predictors for QoL along with low levels of QoL domains among the caregivers of cancer patients. Securing such findings proves the magnitude of probable unmet needs and psychological challenges in this population and provides the health policy makers with some valuable clues to draw effective strategies to address such issues. Background: Brain metastases (BM) are a common complication in advanced cancer patients, and extremely challenging to treat. Consequently, whole brain radiotherapy (WBRT) remains the standard palliative intervention for patients with BM. The present study set to evaluate the clinical benefits of WBRT by assessing the quality of life (QoL) in WBRT-treated patients with BM, in Nigeria. Methods: This was a prospective, longitudinal, hospital-based single-centre study. Consecutive sampling methodology was used to recruit 52 patients with BM undergoing WBRT. Patients were followed up on days 7, 30, 90 and 180 after WBRT. The EORTC QLQ-C15-PAL and EORTC QLQ-BN20 were employed to report patients' responses. The likert scale responses were linearly converted into 0 – 100 scores, and the descriptive analysis was conducted using IBM SPSS Statistics 29.0, at 95% confidence interval, using the two-tailed t-test for continuous variables or the chi-square test for categorical values. The overall survival was calculated with the Kaplan Maier method and the difference tested with Log-rank method, considering the interval from the baseline until death or end of the study. Results: The study cohort was predominantly females (82.7%), and accordingly, 65.4% of the respondents had a breast primary tumor. A goodness-of-fit test yielded non-significant Chi square Pearson (p = 0.325) and Deviance (p = 1.000) residuals, indicating the best fit. The median overall survival was 180 days (~ 6 months). A total of 20 patients (38%) that survived up to 180 days reported alleviated symptoms and better functioning. A significant improvement in physical functioning (p < 0.001) and emotional functioning (p = 0.031) was reported at 180 days post WBRT, compared to baseline. Conclusions: WBRT is an effective palliative intervention in patients with BM, resulting in improved QoL. More than 50% of patients that survived ~ 3 months reported alleviation of pain, and 38% of patients that survived for ~ 6 months reported a significantly improved functioning. Background: Bone cancer patients undergoing hospitalization require support to manage physical challenges for optimal healing and recovery. The physical aspects experienced by the patients significantly affect their physical well-being. Addressing these aspects is essential for nurses in providing care. However, comprehensive assessments of bone cancer patients' physical needs have not been thoroughly explored. Purpose: This study aimed to explore the physical well-being needs of patients with bone cancer undergoing hospitalization. Methods: This qualitative study with a phenomenological approach was conducted among 14 bone cancer patients selected through purposive sampling. The criteria included patients with a primary cancer diagnosis, undergoing hospitalization at a cancer center, and having good orientation and verbal communication abilities. Indepth interviews were employed to delve into the patients' well-being needs. To triangulate the data, 12 cancer nurses were involved. Data analysis utilized the Creswell method. Results: This study found chronic pain and bone lumps as fundamental physical challenges, leading to disruptions in physical movement, sleep disturbances, and dependency on others for self-care. Six themes emerged regarding the physical well-being needs of hospitalized bone cancer patients: goals and needs for physical wellbeing, need for pain management, need for physical mobility, need for sleep and rest, need for self-care, and the meaning of physical well-being for patients. Physical well-being provides a significant meaning in achieving nursing goals. Conclusion: This study shows the significance of addressing pain management, physical mobility, sleep and rest, and self-care for the physical well-being of bone cancer patients. Background: As breast cancer incidence rises among younger women, there is a knowledge gap regarding the emotional, physical, and social effects of mastectomy, specifically in a crisis-affected country such as Syria. This study aimed to explore these effects on young women with breast cancer in Syria, taking into consideration the cultural significance of a woman's breast as part of her feminine identity. Methods: A qualitative design, using semi-structured in-depth interviews with 10 young women with breast cancer who underwent mastectomy, was conducted between June to December 2022. Results: Thematic analysis was used to analyze the data, and five main themes were identified: (1) psychological and emotional well-being (altered self-esteem and femininity, impact on sexual life and relationships, psychological distress associated with mastectomy, mirror trauma and the need for psychological care); (2) body image and breast reconstruction (the dilemma over reconstruction decision, body image and clothing and lack of access to prosthetic information/services); (3) social and interpersonal factors (lack of marriage choices and society's view and stigma); (4) coping mechanisms with mastectomy effects (family support; faith in god almighty; comparing their situation to others and use of prosthetics) and (5) physical health and functioning (physical effects on mobility and function). Conclusion: Mastectomy has significant physical, emotional, and social consequences on young women with breast cancer, particularly in crisis-affected Syria where access to breast reconstruction is limited. It is crucial for healthcare professionals to understand these impacts, to raise awareness, encourage early detection, and promote less aggressive treatments to improve women's quality of life. Objectives: The main aim of this study was to develop, test, and compare palliative care bundles to improve functional recovery, resilience, and quality of life among advanced gallbladder cancer patient with their routine palliative care. Material and Methods: This study was to test a palliative care bundle, a single-center, and two-arm randomised controlled trial done on a total of 116 participants (58 in each arm) from July 2019 to December 2021 at All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Rishikesh. Results: By the end of 4th month, the recruitment rate was 96.7%, retention rate acceptance rate was 95%, and adherence rate was 85%. The palliative care bundle showed that a significant difference in trial outcome index score (P = 0.014*) indicates the effectiveness of the palliative care bundle related to improvement in physical mobility, resilience, and quality of life of patients and reduced caregiver burden. Reported barriers faced by participants were physical exhaustion (65%), psychological factors (25%), social factors (15%) and unfamiliar surroundings (5%). Caregivers reported barriers that their job (40%), physical fatigue related to the care of their patient (40%), their education (10%), and lack of support for their other family members (10%) were some reasons forcing them not to practice palliative care bundle. Conclusion: The palliative care bundle did not interfere with the palliative treatment plan of any patients and significantly improved physical mobility, resilience, quality of life of patients, and reduced caregiver burden. Introduction: Breast cancer remains a leading cause of unintended death among Indian women. Cancer treatment-induced pain, fatigue, nausea/vomiting, body image, and sexual problems could affect the patient psychosocial well-being and quality of life (QOL). The study aims to determine the QOL and psychosocial well-being among women with breast cancer. Materials and Methods: A cross-sectional survey completed by 244 women with breast cancer at a tertiary level teaching hospital. The European Organisation for Research and Treatment of Cancer QOL Questionnaire C30, the Breast Module (QLQ-BR23), and the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS) is used to measure the QOL, and psychological well-being, respectively. Appropriate descriptive and inferential statistics are applied to compute the results. Results: The total number of women with breast cancer interviewed was 244, with a mean age of 45.06 (standard deviation ± 11.17) years. The mean global health score was 70.97 ± 15.63. As per the QLQ-C30 scale, "physical functioning" scored the highest (70.54 ± 22.00), and "role functioning" reported the lowest (49.45 ± 36.15) mean score. Further, on the QLQ-C30 symptoms scale, "appetite loss" (45.09 ± 35.09) was the worst reported symptom, followed by "nausea and vomiting" (34.97 ± 38.39). On the BR-23 scale, body image said (68.42 ± 22.28) higher score than other domains and experience of arm-related problems (43.80 ± 26.06) were more frequently reported symptom in women. As per the HADS scale, 24.6% and 36.1% of women were in moderate anxiety and depression, respectively. The mean HADS score was 14.39 ± 5.82. Findings on predictors for the individual patient remained the same as that earlier published literature. Conclusions and Recommendations: Women with breast cancer have an overall good QOL and poor psychosocial well-being. Objective: To assess the prognostic nutritional index (PNI) and quality of life (QOL) of patients with cervical cancer (CC) who underwent radiotherapy and chemotherapy and to reveal the effect of PNI on QOL and its prognostic value. Methods: A total of 138 CC patients who underwent radiotherapy and chemotherapy in the Second Affiliated Hospital of Fujian Medical University from January 2020 to October 2022 were selected as the study subjects via convenient sampling. According to the PNI cut-off value of 48.8, they were divided into a high-PNI group and a low-PNI group, and the quality of life of the two groups was compared. The Kaplan-Meier method was used to draw the survival curve, and the Log-Rank test was employed to compare the survival rates of the two groups. Results: The scores of physical functioning and overall QOL in the high-PNI group were significantly higher than those in the low-PNI group (P < 0.05). The scores of fatigue, nausea and vomiting, pain and diarrhea were higher than those in the low-PNI group, and the difference was statistically significant (P < 0.05). The objective response rates were 96.77% and 81.25% in the high-PNI group and the low-PNI group, respectively, and the difference was statistically significant (P = 0.045). The 1-year survival rates of patients with high PNI and low PNI were 92.55% and 72.56% in the high-PNI group and the low-PNI group, respectively; the difference in survival rates was statistically significant (P = 0.006). Conclusion: The overall quality of life of CC patients with low PNI receiving radiotherapy and chemotherapy is lower than that of patients with high PNI. Simple Summary: For patients who are treated for vulvar cancer, walking and bicycling can become uncomfortable or painful. This can result in losses in mobility, physical activity, social contacts, self-reliance, and quality of life (QoL). We assessed the prevalence and severity of these problems using three questionnaires. In total, 84 patients who were treated for vulvar cancer between 2018 and 2021 participated. The reported QoL and perceived health were 0.832 ± 0.224 and 75.6 ± 20.0, respectively. Many patients indicated that saddle use has become painful, and that they experienced moderate or severe bicycling problems or could not bicycle (40.3%). Overall, patients treated for vulvar cancer reported a lower self-reported health, mobility, and physical activity, compared to baseline values found in the literature. The weekly time spent on walking, bicycling, and participating in sports was also reduced. This motivates us to investigate ways to reduce discomfort during physical activities, and help women regain their mobility and self-reliance. Patients treated for vulvar carcinoma may experience losses in mobility and physical activity. In this study, we assess the prevalence and severity of mobility problems using patient-reported outcomes of three questionnaires: EQ-5D-5L to estimate QoL and perceived health; SQUASH to estimate habitual physical activity; and a problem-specific questionnaire on bicycling. Patients treated for vulvar carcinoma between 2018 and 2021 were recruited, and 84 (62.7%) responded. The mean age was 68 ± 12 years (mean ± standard deviation). Self-reported QoL and perceived health were 0.832 ± 0.224 and 75.6 ± 20.0, respectively. Dutch physical activity guidelines were met by 34.2% of participants. Compared to baseline values, the times spent walking, bicycling, and participating in sports were all reduced. During bicycling, patients experienced moderate or severe pain in the skin of the vulva (24.5%), pain in the sit bones (23.2%), chafing (25.5%), or itching (8.9%). Overall, 40.3% experienced moderate or severe bicycling problems or could not bicycle, 34.9% felt that their vulva impeded bicycling, and 57.1% wished to make more or longer bicycling journeys. To conclude, vulvar carcinoma and its treatment reduce self-reported health, mobility, and physical activity. Background: Cancer supportive care interventions often have limited generalizability, goal misalignment, and high costs. We developed and piloted a health coaching intervention, UNC HealthScore, in patients undergoing cancer treatment (ClinicalTrials.gov identifier NCT04923997). We present feasibility, acceptability, and preliminary outcome data. Methods: HealthScore is a six‐month, theory‐based, multicomponent intervention delivered through participant‐driven coaching sessions. For the pilot study, participants were provided a Fitbit, responded to weekly symptom and physical function digital surveys, and met with a health coach weekly to develop and monitor goals. Coaching notes were discussed in weekly interdisciplinary team meetings and provided back to the treating oncology team. Symptom alerts were monitored and triaged through a study resource nurse to relevant supportive care services. Feasibility was determined based on intervention enrollment and completion. Acceptability was based on satisfaction with coaching and Fitbit‐wearing and was informed by semistructured exit interviews. Outcomes evaluated for signs of improvement included several PROMIS (Patient‐Reported Outcomes Measurement Information System) measures, including the primary intervention target, physical function. Results: From May 2020 to March 2022, 50 participants completed the single‐arm pilot. Feasibility was high: 66% enrolled and 71% completed the full intervention. Participants reported an average of 4.8 and 4.7 (out of 5) on the acceptability of coaching calls and using the Fitbit, respectively. Physical function scores rose 3.1 points (SE = 1.1) from baseline to 3 months, and 4.3 (SE = 1.0) from baseline to 6 months, above established minimal clinically important difference (MCID). Improvements above MCID were also evident in anxiety and depression, and smaller improvements were demonstrated for emotional support, social isolation, cognitive function, symptom burden, and self‐efficacy. Discussion: HealthScore shows feasibility, acceptability, and promising preliminary outcomes. Background : Patient-reported physical function (PF) is a key endpoint in cancer clinical trials. Using complex statistical methods, common metrics have been developed to compare scores from different patient-reported outcome (PRO) measures, but such methods do not account for possible differences in questionnaire content. Therefore, the aim of our study was a content comparison of frequently used PRO measures for PF in cancer patients. Methods: Relying on the framework of the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF) we categorized the item content of the physical domains of the following measures: EORTC CAT Core, EORTC QLQ-C30, SF-36, PROMIS Cancer Item Bank for Physical Function, PROMIS Short Form for Physical Function 20a, and the FACT-G. Item content was linked to ICF categories by two independent reviewers. Results: The 118 items investigated were assigned to 3 components ('d – Activities and Participation', 'b – Body Functions', and 'e – Environmental Factors') and 11 first-level ICF categories. All PF items of the EORTC measures but one were assigned to the first-level ICF categories 'd4 – Mobility' and 'd5 – Self-care', all within the component 'd – Activities and Participation'. The SF-36 additionally included item content related to 'd9 – Community, social and civic life' and the PROMIS Short Form for Physical Function 20a also included content related to 'd6 – domestic life'. The PROMIS Cancer Item Bank (v1.1) covered, in addition, two first-level categories within the component 'b – Body Functions'. The FACT-G Physical Well-being scale was found to be the most diverse scale with item content partly not covered by the ICF framework. Discussion: Our results provide information about conceptual differences between common PRO measures for the assessment of PF in cancer patients. Our results complement quantitative information on psychometric characteristics of these measures and provide a better understanding of the possibilities of establishing common metrics. Background: Symptom burden and adverse treatment effects can negatively impact physical function, health-related outcomes, and quality of life in cancer survivors. Resistive exercise that improves skeletal muscle function can ameliorate these complications, but the central role of the skeletal muscle in mediating improvements in patient-related outcomes has not been explored. This protocol describes the rationale and methods for a systematic review that aims to determine the effects of resistive exercise on the skeletal muscle hypertrophy, muscle performance, and muscle-related biomarkers in cancer survivors. Methods: A systematic review will be conducted on peer-reviewed randomized controlled trials (RCTs) that employ resistive exercise interventions for cancer survivors. The following electronic databases will be searched: AMED, CENTRAL, CINAHL, CIRRIE, EMBASE, MEDLINE, PEDro, REHABDATA, Scopus, and SPORTDiscus. Studies will be considered for inclusion if they present quantitative data in adult cancer survivors on skeletal muscle characteristics (e.g., muscle mass), muscle performance (e.g., strength), or skeletal muscle-related biomarkers (e.g., myocellular satellite cells). Secondary outcomes will be physical function (e.g., stair climb) and patient-reported outcomes (e.g., fatigue). Data will be reported through a narrative that describes study design, participants, interventions, and outcome characteristics. Discussion: This systematic review will help clarify the influence of resistive exercise on factors relating to the skeletal muscle in adult cancer survivors. Background: When treating cancer patients, the progression of symptoms is accompanied by the deterioration of systemic conditions and motor function. From a risk-benefit perspective, a certain level of physical function must be maintained to continue cancer treatment. Recently, outpatient cancer treatment has become more common. Motor function is important to determine the feasibility of continuing cancer treatment. The study aimed to evaluate the motor function of patients with visceral cancer using locomo tests established by Japanese Orthopaedic Association.Methods: Locomo tests were performed, and the results were compared with data from non-cancer individuals. Background data were matched by propensity score matching. Data from 53 cancer patients (group C) were compared with that of 75 non-cancer patients (group N).Results: The average score in the two-step test of group C was lower than that of group N (1.27: 1.37, p = 0.004). The average function in the stand-up test of group C was worse than that of group N (p = 0.001). The average score in the 25-question geriatric locomotive function scale (GLFS) of group C was significantly higher than that of group N (19.92: 5.29, SE 2.21, p < 0.001). Higher 25-question GLFS scores indicate reduced mobility. The proportion of the locomo stage 2 in group C was significantly higher than in group N (51%: 13%, p < 0.001). The results of the two field tests revealed a clinically minimal difference between the two groups, but a statistically significant difference. Locomo tests may be detect potential motor dysfunction in outpatient cancer patients with apparently maintained motor function.Conclusions: Even in cancer patients who attend outpatient clinics, their motor functions could be potentially impaired. Background: Lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) reflects tumor burden and is a prognosticator of all-cause mortality in patients with cancer. Objective measures of physical function are associated with clinically relevant outcomes in older adults with cancer. However, whether physical function is associated with LDH in geriatric oncology is unknown. The objective of this study was to assess the relationship between objective measures of physical function and serum LDH in older adults with cancer prior to treatment. Methods: Data from older adults with cancer prior to treatment were retrieved from an institutional database and medical records within a tertiary cancer centre. Physical function measures involved muscle strength and physical performance. Muscle strength and physical performance were assessed through grip strength and the Short Physical Performance Battery (SPPB), respectively. LDH was log transformed using the natural logarithm. Multivariable logistic regression was used to examine the relationship between objective measures of physical function and LDH prior to treatment in all participants. Stratified analyses were performed for participants with solid and hematological cancers. Results: A total of 257 participants (mean age: 80.2y) were included in the analysis. Most participants were females (50.6%) and were diagnosed with locally advanced (26.8%), gastrointestinal disease (35.0%). The multivariable analysis indicated that SPPB was inversely associated with LDH in all participants (B = -0.019, 95%CI = -0.036 to -0.002, p = 0.028). Notably, the inverse relationship between SPPB and LDH persisted only in patients with hematological malignancies in the multivariable model of the stratified analysis (B = -0.049, 95%CI = -0.087 to -0.011, p = 0.013). Neither grip strength alone nor the combination of low grip strength and/or SPPB were associated with LDH. Compared to participants with metastatic disease, those with localized or locally advanced disease had lower serum LDH. Objectives: This study aimed to compare the treatment preference among oncologists, patients with lung cancer, and their family members in China.Methods: A face-to-face discrete choice experiment survey was conducted among oncologists, patients, and their family members. Participants completed 13 choice sets describing 6 key attributes, namely, overall survival time, risk of severe adverse effect, severity of pain, appetite, physical functioning status, and monthly cost. Mixed logit model and latent class analysis were used to estimate attribute level preference weights and the relative importance (RI) for attributes. The willingness to pay (WTP) and maximum acceptable risk (MAR) were also estimated. The RI, WTP, and MAR of oncologists, patients, and family members were compared.Results: A total of 121 oncologists and 161 dyads of patients and family members completed the survey. Overall survival time, physical functioning status, and pain were the 3 most important attributes across all 3 groups. Oncologists and family members had higher RI on overall survival time than patients (48% and 51% vs 38%). Patients had higher RI on physical functioning status and pain (23% and 14%) than oncologists (13% and 12%) and family members (16% and 11%). For extending survival, patients had the least WTP, and family members had the highest MAR. The latent class analysis identified 2 classes in the patient group and 3 classes in oncologist and family member groups.Conclusions: There were differences in preferences for survival, risk, quality of life, and costs associated with cancer treatments among patients, oncologists, and family members. Background: Head and neck cancer (HNC) patients are an understudied population whose treatment often includes surgery, causing a wide range of side effects. Exercise prehabilitation is a promising tool to optimize patient outcomes and may confer additional benefits as a prehabilitation tool. The primary objective of this study was to assess the feasibility of measuring patient-reported outcomes (PROs), physical function, and in-hospital mobilization across the HNC surgical timeline in advance of a future prehabilitation trial. The secondary objective was to examine potential changes in these outcomes across the surgical timeline. Methods: HNC patients scheduled to undergo oncologic resection with free-flap reconstruction completed assessments of PROs and physical function at three timepoints across the surgical timeline (baseline, in-hospital, and postsurgical/outpatient). Mobilization was measured during the in-hospital period. The feasibility of recruitment and measurement completion was tracked, as were changes in both PROs and physical function. Results: Of 48 eligible patients, 16 enrolled (recruitment rate of 33%). The baseline and in-hospital PROs were completed by 88% of participants, while the outpatient assessments were completed by 81% of participants. The baseline and in-hospital assessment of physical function were completed by 56% of participants, and 38% completed the outpatient assessment. Measuring in-hospital mobilization was completed for 63% of participants. Conclusion: Measuring PROs and in-hospital mobilization is feasible across the surgical timeline in HNC; however, the in-person assessment of physical function prior to surgery was not feasible. A multidisciplinary collaboration between exercise specialists and clinicians supported the development of new clinical workflows in HNC surgical care that will aid in the implementation of a future prehabilitation trial for this patient population. Background: There is a lack of tools for selecting patients with advanced lung cancer who benefit the most from systemic treatment. Patient-reported physical function (PRPF) has been identified as a prognostic factor in this setting, but little is known about the prognostic value in advanced non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC). The aim of this study was to investigate if measured physical performance was an independent or stronger prognostic factor than PRPF in patients with advanced NSCLC receiving platinum-doublet chemotherapy. Methods: We analyzed patients from a randomized trial comparing immediate and delayed pemetrexed therapy in stage III/IV NSCLC (n = 232) who performed timed up and go (TUG) and 5 m walk test (5 mWT) and reported physical function on the EORTC QLQ-C30 before chemotherapy commenced. Results: Overall, 208 patients performed TUG and 5 mWT and were included in the present study. Poor physical function was significantly associated with poor survival (TUG: HR 1.05, p < 0.01, 5 mWT: HR 1.05, p = 0.03, PRPF: 1.01, p < 0.01), but only PRPF remained an independent prognostic factor in multivariable analyses adjusting for baseline characteristics (HR 1.01, p = 0.03). Conclusions: Patient-reported, but not measured, physical performance was an independent prognostic factor for survival in patients with advanced NSCLC receiving platinum-doublet chemotherapy. To evaluate the health-related quality-of-life (QOL) outcomes in surgical breast cancer survivors who received breast conservation therapy (BCT) compared to mastectomy, we utilized a systematic review to conduct observational studies of QOL in patients with breast cancer following breast conservation therapy from their inception until October 2021. The PubMed, the Cochrane Library, and the Web of Science databases were systematically searched to retrieve the observational studies. The pooled odds ratios (ORs) with 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were applied as an effect estimate and calculated using Stata 15 software. Nine studies comprising 2301 patients were included. The results showed that no significant differences compared to mastectomy were detected for global health status (P = 0.971 and P = 0.613), physical function (P = 0.099), emotional function (P = 0.096), cognitive function (P = 0.377), social function (P = 0.602), sexual functioning (P = 0.072), and sexual enjoyment (P = 0.142), while role function (P = 0.036), body image (P = 0.000), and future perspective (P = 0.012) showed a significant difference for BCT when compared to mastectomy. When compared to breast reconstruction (BR), the BCT group was inferior at physical function (P = 0.002) and cognitive function (P = 0.040) but superior at body image (P = 0.001). When used the Functional Assessment of Cancer Therapy (FACT) tool, BCT has better results in physical function (P = 0.000), emotional function (P = 0.000), and social function (P = 0.000) than mastectomy. QOL outcomes after BCT were better than mastectomy in body image, future perspective, and role function. Background: In precision medicine biomarkers stratify patients into groups that are offered different treatments, but this may conflict with the principle of equal treatment. While some patient characteristics are seen as relevant for unequal treatment and others not, it is known that they all may influence treatment decisions. How biomarkers influence these decisions is not known, nor is their ethical relevance well discussed.Methods: We distributed an email survey designed to elicit treatment preferences from Norwegian doctors working with cancer patients. In a forced-choice conjoint analysis pairs of hypothetical patients were presented, and we calculated the average marginal component effect of seven individual patient characteristics, to estimate how each of them influence doctors' priority-setting decisions.Results: A positive biomarker status increased the probability of being allocated the new drug, while older age, severe comorbidity and reduced physical function reduced the probability. Importantly, sex, education level and smoking status had no significant influence on the decision.Conclusion: Biomarker status is perceived as relevant for priority setting decisions, alongside more well-known patient characteristics like age, physical function and comorbidity. Based on our results, we discuss a framework that can help clarify whether biomarker status should be seen as an ethically acceptable factor for providing unequal treatment to patients with the same disease. Background: As a mind-body exercise, Tai Chi (TC) may have a positive impact on physical function and psychological well-being in patients with breast cancer (BC). The aim of this current overview of systematic reviews (SRs) and meta-analyses (MAs) was to identify and summarize the existing evidence regarding the effectiveness of TC in patients with BC.Methods: A computerized search of electronic databases was performed to identify relevant SRs/MAs of TC related to BC from inception to June 2020. The Assessing the Methodological Quality of Systematic Reviews 2 (AMSTAR-2) and Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) checklists were used to assess the methodological quality and reporting quality of SRs and MAs, respectively. The Grades of Recommendations, Assessment, Development and Evaluation (GRADE) approach was used to assess the evidence quality of outcome measures.Results: Six SRs/MAs in which quantitative synthesis was used to assess various outcomes of TC related to BC were included in this overview. The quality of the SRs/MAs and the evidence quality of the outcome measures were generally unsatisfactory. The limitations of the past SRs/MAs were the lack of a protocol and registration, a list of excluded studies, or inadequately reported computational details of meta-analyses. The critical problems were that the qualitative data synthesis relied on the trials with small sample sizes and of critical low quality.Conclusions: TC is possibly beneficial to BC treatment. Background: Cancer patients have been at the forefront of policy discussions leading to legalization of medical Cannabis (marijuana). Unfortunately, Cannabis use among those with cancer is poorly understood. Methods: A diverse group of patients seeking certification for medical Cannabis in the state of Michigan were surveyed at the time of their presentation to medical dispensaries. The survey assessed demographics, employment/disability, pain, physical functioning, mental health, mode of Cannabis use, and frequency/amount of Cannabis use. Chi-square and t-tests were performed to compare those who did and did not endorse cancer diagnosis. Results: Analysis of data from 1485 adults pursuing medical Cannabis certification, including 72 (4.8%) reporting a cancer diagnosis, indicated that those with cancer were older [mean age 53.4 years (SD = 10.5) vs. 44.7 years (SD = 13.0); p<0.001] than those without cancer. They also differed regarding employment status (p<0.001; working: 20.8% vs. 46.2%; disabled: 44.4% vs. 26.5% for those with vs. those without cancer, respectively). Those with cancer used less Cannabis (p = 0.033 for quantity used) and used Cannabis less often (p = 0.032 for frequency of use); they less frequently endorsed smoking Cannabis (80% vs 91%; p = 0.015). There was a non-significant trend to increased edible use in those with cancer (57% vs. 44%; p = 0.052). Conclusions: Patients with cancer who are seeking medical Cannabis are different from those seeking medical Cannabis without cancer, and they report using Cannabis differently. Chimeric antigen receptor T‐cell therapy with axicabtagene ciloleucel (axi‐cel) has considerably improved survival in adults with relapsed/refractory large B‐cell lymphoma. This study reports patient‐reported outcomes (PROs) such as quality of life (QOL) and toxicity in the first 90 days after treatment. Hematologic cancer patients treated with axi‐cel (N = 103, mean age = 61, 39% female) completed SF‐36 or PROMIS‐29 QOL questionnaires prior to treatment and 90 days after. PRO‐Common Terminology Criteria for Adverse Events toxicity items were completed by patients at baseline and 14, 30, 60, and 90 days after treatment. Mixed models examined change in PROs over time. From preinfusion to 90 days later, patients reported improvements in physical functioning, pain, and fatigue (ps < 0.01), but worsening of anxiety (p = 0.02). Patient‐reported toxicities worsened by day 14 with improvement thereafter. The five most severe symptoms at day 14 included fatigue, decreased appetite, dry mouth, diarrhea frequency, and problems with concentration. Introduction: The best treatment therapy for gastrointestinal cancer patients is assessed by the improvement of health status and quality of life (QoL) after treatments. Malnutrition is related to loss of muscle strengths which leads to lower physical performance and emotional status. Thus, this study aimed to estimate the effects of nutritional interventions on the improvement of QoL among gastrointestinal patients undergoing chemotherapy in Vietnam. Methods: A quasi‐experiment with intervention and control groups for pre‐ and post‐intervention assessment was carried out at the Department of Oncology and Palliative Care—Hanoi Medical University Hospital from 2016 to 2019. Sixty gastrointestinal cancer patients were recruited in each group. The intervention regimen consisted of nutritional counseling, a specific menu with a recommended amount of energy, protein, and formula milk used within 2 months. Nutritional status and QoL of patients were evaluated using The Scored Patient‐Generated Subjective Global Assessment (PG‐SGA) and The European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer (EORTC). The difference in differences (DiD) method was utilized to estimate the outcome between control and intervention groups. Results: After the intervention, patients of the intervention group had better changes in scores of global health status (Coef =16.68; 95% CI =7.90; 25.46), physical (Coef =14.51; 95% CI =5.34; 23.70), and role functioning (Coef =14.67; 95% CI =1.63; 27.70) compared to the control group. Regarding symptom scales, the level of fatigue, pain, and insomnia symptoms significantly reduced between pre‐ and post‐intervention in the intervention group. In addition, living in urban areas, defined as malnourished and having low prealbumin levels, were positively associated with the lower global health status/QoL score. Conclusion: Nutritional therapy with high protein was beneficial to the improvement in QoL, physical function and the reduction of negative symptoms among gastrointestinal cancer patients. Early individualized nutritional support in consultation with professional dietitians during chemotherapy plays an integral part in enhancing the QoL and better treatment prognosis. Introduction: Androgen deprivation therapy (ADT) has detrimental effects on body composition, metabolic health, physical functioning, bone mineral density (BMD) and health-related quality of life (HRQOL) in men with prostate cancer. We investigated whether a 12-month home-based progressive resistance training (PRT) programme, instituted at the start of ADT, could prevent these adverse effects. Methods: Twenty-five patients scheduled to receive at least 12 months of ADT were randomly assigned to either usual care (UC) (n = 12) or PRT (n = 13) starting immediately after their first ADT injection. Body composition, body cell mass (BCM; a functional component of lean body mass), BMD, physical function, insulin sensitivity and HRQOL were measured at 6 weeks and 6 and 12 months. Data were analysed by a linear mixed model. Results: ADT had a negative impact on body composition, BMD, physical function, glucose metabolism and HRQOL. At 12 months, the PRT group had greater reductions in BCM by − 1.9 ± 0.8 % (p = 0.02) and higher gains in fat mass by 3.1 ± 1.0 % (p = 0.002), compared to the UC group. HRQOL domains were maintained or improved in the PRT versus UC group at 6 weeks (general health, p = 0.04), 6 months (vitality, p = 0.02; social functioning, p = 0.03) and 12 months (mental health, p = 0.01; vitality, p = 0.02). A significant increase in the Matsuda Index in the PRT versus UC group was noted at 6 weeks (p = 0.009) but this difference was not maintained at subsequent timepoints. Between-group differences favouring the PRT group were also noted for physical activity levels (step count) (p = 0.02). No differences in measures of BMD or physical function were detected at any time point. Conclusion: A home-based PRT programme instituted at the start of ADT may counteract detrimental changes in body composition, improve physical activity and mental health over 12 months. Purpose: Quality of life in colorectal cancer patients may be affected by colostomy and treatment, but relevant studies are still scarce and contradictory. The present study aimed to evaluate the association between colostomy time and treatment type with quality of life in colorectal cancer patients. Methods: A prospective observational study of 41 patients with colorectal cancer was conducted on three occasions T0, T1 and T2 (0–2; 3–5 and 6–8 months after ostomy surgery, respectively). The treatments prescribed were: surgery alone, chemotherapy or radiotherapy, or chemoradiotherapy. European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer questionnaires were used to evaluate quality of life. Worsening clinical changes were evaluated considering difference in scores between times of surgery ≥±9 points. Results: Regarding ostomy surgery, scores in physical function improved between T0 and T1 and these better scores were maintained at T1 to T2. The same was observed for urinary frequency, appetite loss and dry mouth. Chemoradiotherapy was associated with worse scores for global health status, nausea and vomiting, bloating and dry mouth. Although significant differences were not observed in some domains in the Generalized Estimating Equations analysis, patients showed noticeable changes for the worse in the pain, anxiety, weight concern, flatulence and embarrassment domains during these periods. Conclusions: Colostomy improved quality of life at 3–5 months in most domains of quality of life and remained better at 6–8 months after surgery. Chemoradiotherapy had a late negative influence on quality of life. Health teams could use these results to reassure patients that this procedure will improve their quality of life in many functional and symptomatic aspects. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: For patients initially diagnosed with metastatic Her2-positive breast cancer (MHBC), we intended to construct a nomogram with risk stratification to predict prognosis and to explore the role of local surgery. Methods: We retrieved data from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) database. Kaplan–Meier (KM) method and log-rank test were used for the selection of significant variables. Cox regression analysis and Fine-Gray test were utilized to confirm independent prognostic factors of overall survival (OS) and breast cancer-specific survival (BCSS). A nomogram predicting 1-year, 3-year, and 5-year OS was developed and validated. Patients were stratified based on the optimal cut-off values of total personal score. KM method and log-rank test were used to estimate OS prognosis and benefit from local surgery and chemotherapy. Results: There were 1680 and 717 patients in the training and validation cohort. Age, race, marriage, T stage, estrogen receptor (ER) status, visceral metastasis (bone, brain, liver and lung) were identified as independent prognostic factors for OS and BCSS, while histology was also corelated with OS. C-indexes in the training and validation cohort were 0.70 and 0.68, respectively. Calibration plots indicated precise predictive ability. The total population was divided into low- (<141 points), intermediate- (142–208 points), and high-risk (>208 points) prognostic groups. Local surgery and chemotherapy brought various degrees of survival benefit for patients with diverse-risk prognosis. Conclusions: We constructed a model with accurate prediction and discrimination. It would provide a reference for clinicians' decision-making. Surgery on the primary lesion was recommended for patients with good physical performance status, while further study on optimal surgical opportunity was needed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In recent years, the incidence of cancers is continuously increasing in young adults. Early-onset cancer (EOC) is usually defined as patients with cancers under the age of 50, and may represent a unique subgroup due to its special disease features. Overall, EOCs often initiate at a young age, present as a better physical performance but high degree of malignancy. EOCs also share common epidemiological and hereditary risk factors. In this review, we discuss several representative EOCs which were well studied previously. By revealing their clinical and molecular similarities and differences, we consider the group of EOCs as a unique subtype compared to ordinary cancers. In consideration of EOC as a rising threat to human health, more researches on molecular mechanisms, and large-scale, prospective clinical trials should be carried out to further translate into improved outcomes.
