Simple Summary: Trismus is a common complication in oral cancer patients that may influence surgical outcomes. This retrospective matched cohort analysis examined the influence of preoperative trismus on survival outcomes in 40 male Taiwanese oral cancer patients undergoing transoral robotic surgery (TORS). Through 1:1 propensity score matching, 20 trismus patients were compared to 20 non-trismus controls. TORS demonstrated comparable short-term surgical outcomes in trismus patients compared to non-trismus patients. There were no significant differences between groups in operation time, blood loss, margin status, flap reconstruction rates, duration of nasogastric tube feeding, or length of hospital stay. Analysis of long-term oncological outcomes demonstrated similar 5-year disease-free survival between groups, indicating comparable tumor control. However, trismus patients experienced significantly poorer 5-year overall survival. After adjusting for confounders, trismus independently conferred a 13-fold higher long-term mortality risk. Ultimately, this study highlights preoperative trismus as a harbinger of non-inferior short-term surgical outcomes, but diminished long-term survival in oral cancer patients treated robotically, even among those with equivalent tumor persistence following surgery. Further research should explore mechanisms linking trismus to mortality and approaches to improve outcomes in this population. Trismus, defined as restricted mouth opening, is a common complication among Taiwanese oral cancer patients, especially those who chew betel quid. However, the impact of trismus on survival outcomes in oral cancer patients undergoing transoral robotic surgery (TORS) is unclear. This study aimed to investigate the associations between trismus and surgical outcomes in Taiwanese male oral cancer patients treated with TORS. We conducted a retrospective propensity score-matched cohort study of 40 Taiwanese male oral cancer patients who underwent TORS between 2016 and 2022. Overall, 20 patients with trismus were matched to 20 patients without trismus. TORS achieved similar operative and short-term clinical outcomes in trismus patients to non-trismus patients. There were no significant differences between groups in operation time, blood loss, margin status, flap reconstruction rates, duration of nasogastric tube feeding, or length of hospital stay. Kaplan–Meier and Cox proportional hazard regression analyses were performed to compare overall survival (OS) and disease-free survival (DFS) between the two groups. The overall survival (OS) rate at three years was significantly lower in patients with trismus than those without trismus (27.1% vs. 95.0%, log-rank p = 0.02). However, there was no significant difference in disease-free survival (DFS) rates between the trismus and non-trismus groups (36.6% vs. 62.7%, log-rank p = 0.87). After adjusting for confounders, trismus was independently associated with a 13-fold increased risk of mortality (adjusted HR 12.87, 95% CI 1.55–106.50, p < 0.05). In conclusion, trismus appears to be an independent prognostic factor for reduced long-term OS in Taiwanese male oral cancer patients undergoing TORS, though short-term surgical outcomes were non-inferior in the trismus patients. Patients with advanced cancer sometimes travel to locations that have the treatment that they need. We explored the prognostic factors of survival in patients with advanced lung cancer who travel long distances in Taiwan. We obtained data from the National Taiwan University Hospital (NTUH) Integrated Medical Database. Patients who received a diagnosis of stage IV lung cancer from 2010 to 2019 and were treated in NTUH and its Hsinchu and Yunlin branches were enrolled. Factors associated with survival were analyzed using a Cox hazard regression model. In total, 6178 patients with stage IV lung cancer were enrolled. Young age, female sex, smaller primary tumor size, better performance, and non-squamous cell non–small cell histology were independently associated with longer survival. Treatment in medical centers and long travel distances (>50 km) were associated with longer survival in the univariate analysis but not in the multivariate analysis (hazard ratio [HR]: 1.04, p = 0.361; HR: 0.99, p = 0.775, respectively). Participation in clinical trials was associated with longer survival in the univariate (HR: 0.53, p < 0.001) and multivariate analyses (HR: 0.62, p < 0.001). For the 1144 patients in the Hsinchu area, enrolment in clinical trials was an independent prognostic factor (HR: 0.72, p = 0.040), whereas treatment in medical centers was not (HR: 0.95, p = 0.635). Long travel distances and treatment in medical centers were not independently associated with survival for patients with advanced lung cancer. Background: Cyclin‐dependent kinases 4 and 6 inhibitors (CDK4/6i) have been shown to improve progression‐free survival (PFS) in patients with metastatic breast cancer (MBC) in randomized control trials. This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of CDK4/6i in patients with advanced breast cancer (ABC) in a clinical setting. Methods: Consecutive patients with ABC were treated between October 2019 and March 2023 at Taipei Tzu Chi Hospital, Taiwan. Patients who had received at least one dose of CDK4/6i were included in this retrospective study. The main outcome of this study was efficacy based on the treating physicians' assessments in terms of PFS, and overall survival (OS), as well as the factors associated with patient outcome. The secondary outcome was safety. Results: A total of 85 patients were included in the analysis, with a mean age of 66.8 years. After a median follow‐up of 16.1 months, the median PFS was 28.4 months (95% CI: 22.5–33.6) and the median OS could not yet be estimated. The most common adverse events (AE) were fatigue (50.8%), anorexia (45.9%), and leukopenia (44.7%). In multivariable analysis, treatment with CDK4/6i with any grade AE or response to treatment effect (CR/PR) was an independent predictor for longer PFS (hazard ratio [HR] = 0.27, 95% CI: 0.11–0.68; HR = 0.21, 95% CI: 0.06–0.67; p < 0.05). Simple Summary: Colorectal cancer with liver metastases (CRLM) has a poor prognosis. Systemic treatment alone, or worse, best supportive care, only affords patients limited survival. This study aims to provide evidence that aggressive local control through hepatic resection and/or radiofrequency ablation (RFA) can significantly prolong CRLM overall survival. Out of the 2612 patients enrolled in this study, 637 underwent hepatectomy, 93 had RFA, 92 were given combined hepatectomy and RFA, while 1790 received non-aggressive treatment. Based on the Kaplan–Meier curves and multivariate Cox's regression analysis as well as frequency matching analysis, we conclude that aggressive local control in CRLM patients has survival benefits, in addition to systemic therapy from a large multi-institutional database. Hepatectomy and/or local ablation therapy have been recommended for colorectal cancer liver metastases (CRLM). However, they still lack strong evidence for their survival benefits, in addition to systemic therapy. This study aims to evaluate the survival evidence of hepatectomy and/or radiofrequency ablation (RFA) therapy in CRLM patients from a large multi-institutional database. A total of 20,251 patients with colorectal cancer, 4521 of whom were with CRLM, were screened for eligibility. Finally, 2612 patients (637 hepatectomy, 93 RFA, 92 combined hepatectomy and RFA, and 1790 non-aggressive treatment) were enrolled. Frequency matching analysis was used to adjust for baseline differences. The 5-year overall survival (OS) was as follows: hepatectomy alone was 47.8%, combined hepatectomy plus RFA was 35.9%, RFA alone was 29.2%, and the non-aggressive treatment group was 7.4%. Kaplan–Meier curves showed that hepatectomy, RFA, and combination were significantly associated with a better OS compared to those without aggressive local therapy (p < 0.001). Multivariate Cox regression analysis showed that male gender (hazard ratio (HR) 0.89; 95% confidence interval (CI), 0.81–0.97; p = 0.011), old age (≥60 years) (HR 1.20; 95% CI, 1.09–1.32; p < 0.001), high CEA level (>5 ng/mL) (HR 2.14; 95% CI, 1.89–2.42; p < 0.001), primary right-sided cancer (HR 1.35; 95% CI, 1.22–1.51; p < 0.001), extrahepatic metastasis (HR 1.46; 95% CI, 1.33–1.60; p < 0.001), systemic therapy (HR 0.7; 95% CI, 0.62–0.79; p < 0.001), and aggressive local therapy (hepatectomy vs. non-local therapy HR 0.22; 95% CI, 0.20–0.26; p < 0.001; RFA vs. non-local therapy HR 0.29; 95% CI, 0.29–0.41; p < 0.001) were independent factors associated with OS. In the frequency matching analysis, patients receiving hepatectomy and/or RFA resulted in a better OS than those without (p < 0.001). Background: Studies comparing the effectiveness of either adjuvant oral uracil‐tegafur (UFT) or intravenous chemotherapy on early‐stage (stage I and II) non‐small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients treated with complete surgical treatment remain limited. Methods: From January 2011 to December 2017, patients with early‐stage NSCLC (defined as tumor size >3 cm without mediastinal lymph node involvement or any distant metastasis) receiving either adjuvant oral UFT or intravenous chemotherapy after surgical resection were identified from the Taiwan Cancer Registry. Overall survival (OS) and relapse‐free survival (RFS) were the primary and secondary outcomes, respectively. Propensity matching was used for controlling confounders. Results: A total of 840 patients receiving adjuvant therapy after surgery (including 595 oral UFT and 245 intravenous chemotherapy) were enrolled. Before matching, patients using oral UFT had significantly longer OS (HR: 0.69, 95% CI: 0.49–0.98, p = 0.0387) and RFS (HR: 0.79, 95% CI: 0.61–0.97, p = 0.0392) than those with intravenous chemotherapy. A matched cohort of 352 patients was created using 1:1 propensity score‐matching. In the Cox regression analysis, the UFT and the matched chemotherapy groups had similar OS (HR: 0.80, 95% CI: 0.48–1.32, p = 0.3753) and RFS (HR: 0.98, 95% CI: 0.72–1.34, p = 0.9149). Among subgroup analysis, oral UFT use was associated with longer RFS among the subgroups of non‐drinker (HR: 0.66, 95% CI: 0.34–0.99, p = 0.0478) and patients with stage IB disease (HR: 0.67, 95% CI: 0.42–0.97, p = 0.0341). Conclusions: This population‐based study in the real‐world setting of Taiwan demonstrates comparable effectiveness between oral UFT and intravenous chemotherapy in terms of clinical outcomes for early‐stage NSCLC patients after surgery. Background: Stereotactic ablative radiotherapy (SABR) is now the standard of care for patients with inoperable early‐stage lung cancer. Many of these patients are elderly. EGFR (epidermal growth factor receptor) mutation is also common in the Asian population. Methods: To evaluate the effects of old age and EGFR mutation on treatment outcomes and toxicity, we reviewed the medical records of 71 consecutive patients with inoperable early‐stage non‐small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) who received SABR at Taipei Veterans General Hospital between 2015 and 2021. Results: The study revealed that median age, follow‐up, Charlson comorbidity index, and ECOG score were 80 years, 2.48 years, 3, and 1, respectively. Of these patients, 37 (52.1%) were 80 years or older, and 50 (70.4%) and 21 (29.6%) had T1 and T2 diseases, respectively. EGFR mutation status was available for 33 (46.5%) patients, of whom 16 (51.5%) had a mutation. The overall survival rates at 1, 3, and 5 years were 97.2, 74.9, and 58.3%, respectively. The local control rate at 1, 3, and 5 years was 97.1, 92.5, and 92.5%, respectively. Using Cox proportional hazards regression we found that male sex was a risk factor for overall survival (p = 0.036, 95% CI: 1.118–26.188). Two patients had grade 2 pneumonitis, but no other grade 2 or higher toxicity was observed. We did not find any significant differences in treatment outcomes or toxicity between patients aged 80 or older and those with EGFR mutations in this cohort. Conclusion: These findings indicate that age and EGFR mutation status do not significantly affect the effectiveness or toxicity of SABR for patients with inoperable early‐stage NSCLC. Background: Epidermal growth factor receptor‐tyrosine kinase inhibitors (EGFR‐TKIs) are standard treatments for advanced non–small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients harboring the EGFR mutation. Patients experiencing intolerable adverse events (AEs) would discontinue EGFR‐TKIs. This study aimed to evaluate the impact of intolerable AEs and subsequent treatment on the survival of patients who discontinued EGFR‐TKIs. Patients: The data of advanced NSCLC patients treated with EGFR‐TKIs as frontline treatment at Chang Gung Memorial Hospitals from June 2014 to March 2018 were retrospectively reviewed. Results: A total of 2190 patients were enrolled and treated with frontline EGFR‐TKIs. In August 2021, 114 (5.2%) patients experienced intolerable AEs requiring discontinuation of EGFR‐TKIs. The time median of EGFR‐TKIs discontinuation was 2.56 months. Age >65 years, females, body weight, and body surface area were associated with the occurrence of intolerable AEs for patients treated with afatinib. Patients experiencing skin/paronychia/mucositis and abnormal liver function test had favorable survivals results. Patients who received subsequent EGFR‐TKIs treatment, experienced better progression‐free survival (PFS), total PFS (from frontline line EGFR‐TKIs), and overall survival (OS) compared to patients receiving chemotherapy or no treatment. Patients undergoing subsequent EGFR‐TKIs had better total PFS (median, 14.9 vs. 11.3 months, p = 0.013) and OS (median, 31.3 vs. 20.1 months, p = 0.001) than patients who did not discontinue because of AEs. Favorable OS was validated by propensity score matching. Conclusion: Patients experiencing intolerable AEs during EGFR‐TKI treatment should consider switching to an alternative EGFR‐TKI, which increase the survival results as compared to those patients who did not experience intolerable AEs. Introduction: Autologous hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (ASCT) is a well-established treatment for patients with multiple myeloma (MM), and adequate stem cell collection must be assured before ASCT. However, prediction of poor mobilizers (PMs) is still difficult despite several risk factors for mobilization failure having been identified. Methods: We retrospectively analyzed MM patients at Taipei Veterans General Hospital in Taiwan who underwent stem cell collection between October 2006 and August 2020. A CD34+ cell collection of <1 × 106 cells/kg was defined as a mobilization failure. The primary endpoint was mobilization failure. The secondary endpoint was overall survival (OS). Odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) for mobilization failure were calculated using a logistic regression model. The cumulative incidence of mortality was estimated using the Kaplan-Meier method. Results: In the multivariate analysis, absolute monocyte count <500/µL (adjusted OR 10.75, 95% CI: 1.82–63.57, p = 0.009), platelet count <150,000/µL (adjusted OR 12.49, 95% CI: 2.65–58.89, p = 0.001) before mobilization, and time interval from diagnosis to stem cell harvest ≥180 days (adjusted OR 7.69, 95% CI: 1.61–36.87, p = 0.011) were risk factors for PMs. PM patients had poorer OS compared to patients with successful stem cell collection in the univariate analysis (log-rank test p = 0.027). The predicted probability of PMs was estimated by the multiple logistic regression model with a sensitivity of 84.6% and a specificity of 84.0%. Conclusion: Absolute monocyte count <500/µL, platelet count <150,000/µL, and treatment duration more than 180 days before stem cell mobilization are risk factors for unsuccessful stem cell collection. Simple Summary: With a strong association between esophageal cancer and multiple primary cancers (MPCs), physicians encounter difficult decision making for appropriate treatment. By analyzing long-term survival for esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) associated with MPCs, patients with antecedent/synchronous cancers showed similar survival benefit in comparison with esophageal SCC only. The most common site of other primary cancers is the head and neck, which also showed no inferiority in overall survival (OS) among sites of MPCs. Once curative esophagectomy can be achieved, surgery should be selected as a potential therapeutic approach if indicated. Background: Advances in surgical techniques and treatment modalities have improved the outcomes of esophageal cancer, yet difficult decision making for physicians while encountering multiple primary cancers (MPCs) continues to exist. The aim of this study was to evaluate long-term survival for esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) associated with MPCs. Methods: Data from 544 patients with esophageal SCC who underwent surgery between 2005 and 2017 were reviewed to identify the presence of simultaneous or metachronous primary cancers. The prognostic factors for overall survival (OS) were analyzed. Results: Three hundred and ninety-seven patients after curative esophagectomy were included, with a median observation time of 44.2 months (range 2.6–178.6 months). Out of 52 patients (13.1%) with antecedent/synchronous cancers and 296 patients without MPCs (control group), 49 patients (12.3%) developed subsequent cancers after surgery. The most common site of other primary cancers was the head and neck (69/101; 68.3%), which showed no inferiority in OS. Sex and advanced clinical stage (III/IV) were independent risk factors (p = 0.031 and p < 0.001, respectively). Conclusion: Once curative esophagectomy can be achieved, surgery should be selected as a potential therapeutic approach if indicated, even with antecedent/synchronous MPCs. With improved survival in patients with cancer, the risk of developing multiple primary malignancies (MPMs) has increased. We aimed to characterize MPMs involving lung cancer and compare these characteristics between patients with single lung cancer and those with lung cancer and subsequent primary cancer (known as lung cancer first [LCF]). Methods: This retrospective study was conducted based on Taiwan Cancer Database from Taiwan's National Health Insurance Registry Database. Patients with lung cancer (n = 72,219) from 1 January 2011 to 31 December 2015, were included in this study, and their medical records were traced back to 1 January 2002, and followed until 31 December 2019. Results: MPMs occurred in 10,577 (14.65%) patients with lung cancer, and LCF and other cancer first (OCF) accounted for 35.55% and 64.45% of these patients, with a mean age at lung cancer diagnosis of 65.18 and 68.92 years, respectively. The median interval between primary malignancies in the OCF group was significantly longer than that in the LCF group (3.26 vs. 0.11 years, p < 0.001). Patients in the single lung cancer group were significantly older than those in the LCF group (67.12 vs. 65.18 years, p < 0.001). The mean survival time of patients with LCF was longer than that of patients with single lung cancer. Following initial lung cancer, the three most common second primary malignancies were lung, colon, and breast cancers. For patients with advanced lung cancer, survival in patients with mutant epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) was longer than that in patients with undetected EGFR. In stage 3 and 4 patients with EGFR mutations, the LCF group showed better survival than the single lung cancer group. Conversely, in stage 1 patients with mutant EGFR, the LCF group exhibited worse survival than the single lung cancer group. Conclusions: Survival in patients with MPMs depends on baseline characteristics and treatments. Objective: Lung cancer poses a tremendous threat to the modern world. According to Taiwan's Ministry of Health and Welfare, lung cancer took first place in total cancer deaths in 2021. This study investigated the overall lung cancer survival based on histopathology between 2010 and 2016 in Taiwan. Method: Data from 2010 to 2016 was collected from the Taiwan Cancer Registry (TCR). The characteristics and overall survival of 71,334 lung cancer patients were analyzed according to the tumor, node, metastasis (TNM) 7th staging system. Univariate and multivariate analyses were performed to identify differences in 1-year, 3-year, and 5-year survival between different histopathologies of lung cancer. Results: The 1-year overall survival rate increased from 54.07% in 2010 to 66.14% in 2016. The 3-year overall survival rate increased from 26.57% in 2010 to 41.12% in 2016 in all patients. Among the histopathologies of lung cancer, 3-year overall survival of adenocarcinoma patients increased the most and largely contributed to the increased 3-year overall survival of all lung cancer patients. Conclusions: The introduction of target therapy has led to a tremendous increase in overall survival for lung adenocarcinoma patients. However, target therapy differs by histopathology. Choosing the right target therapy and determining the correct histopathology of lung cancer is a pivotal key in increasing the overall survival of patients. Background: Depression is common among patients with head and neck cancer, thereby affecting their survival rate. However, whether close monitoring of depression affects the survival outcomes of these patients is unknown. Therefore, this study aimed to determine whether depression treatment continuity after the diagnosis of cancer affects the survival of these patients. Methods: A total of 55,069 patients diagnosed with head and neck cancer in the Cancer Registration System database in Taiwan were enrolled. This cohort was followed from January 1, 2007 to December 31, 2017. Furthermore, the patients were divided into four groups, namely, “no depression,” “pre-cancer only,” “post-cancer only,” and “both before and after cancer,” on the basis of the diagnosis of depression and the duration of the follow-up period in the psychiatric clinic. Further, the Cox proportional hazard model was applied to estimate the hazard of death for the four groups. Results: A total of 6,345 (11.52%) patients were diagnosed with depression in this cohort. The “pre-cancer only” group had a lower overall survival (HR = 1.18; 95% CI = 1.11–1.25) compared with the “no depression” group. Moreover, the “post-cancer only” group had better overall survival (HR = 0.88; 95% CI = 0.83– 0.94) compared with the “no depression” group, especially in advanced-stage patients. Patients who were diagnosed with depression before cancer and had continuous depression treatments after the cancer diagnosis had better overall survival (HR = 0.78; 95% CI = 0.71–0.86) compared with patients who had treatment interruptions. Conclusion: Patients with pre-cancer depression had poorer survival outcomes, especially those who did not receive psychiatric clinic visits after their cancer diagnosis. Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) have been approved to treat patients with various cancer types, including lung cancer, in many countries. This study aims to investigate the effectiveness and safety of ICIs under different treatment conditions of non-small cell lung cancer patients. A population-based retrospective cohort study was conducted using the electronic health records of three medical centers in Taiwan. From January 01, 2016, to November 30, 2018, a total of 91 ICIs and 300 traditional chemotherapy users who had undergone stage III and IV lung cancer treatment were included in the study. We performed the randomized matched pair design by selecting a Chemotherapy subject for each ICI patient in the sample population. All subjects were monitored from the date of taking ICIs or chemotherapy drugs until the event of death, loss to follow-up, or were occurred with any defined adverse events. Kaplan-Meier estimators and cox proportional hazard regression models were used to compute the overall survival, efficacy, and safety of the ICIs group. The median overall survival (OS) in the ICI and Chemo groups after matching was 11.2 months and 10.5 months, respectively. However, the results showed no significant OS differences between ICIs and chemo groups for both before and after matching (HR,1.30; 95%CI, 0.68-2.46; p=0.428 before matching and HR,0.96; 95CI%, 0.64-1.44; p=0.838 after matching). We observed that with the higher amount of PD-L1, the length of the patients' overall survival was (positive vs. negative PD-L1, HR,0.21; 95%CI, 0.05-0.80; p=0.022). The incidences of serious adverse drug events above grade 3 in the ICIs and traditional chemo groups were 12.7% and 21.5%, respectively. We also found that the number of AEs was less in ICIs than in the Chemo group, and the AEs that occurred after treatments were observed earlier in the ICIs compared to the Chemo group. ICIs drugs were observed to be safer than traditional chemotherapy as they had a lower risk of serious adverse drug events. It is necessary to pay attention to immune-related side effects and provide appropriate treatment. Abstract: Follicular lymphoma (FL) is the most frequent indolent lymphoma in Western countries, but it is less frequent in Asia. Several trials have demonstrated the progression‐free benefit of rituximab maintenance for FL patients in Western countries. However, the overall survival (OS) benefits and effectiveness of rituximab maintenance in Asian FL patients remain uncertain. We utilized the Taiwan Cancer Registry Database and the National Health Insurance Research Database to investigate the roles of rituximab maintenance for newly diagnosed FL patients in Taiwan. Among 836 patients with newly diagnosed FL during 2009‐2012, we enrolled patients with stage II‐IV diseases receiving 4‐8 cycles of rituximab‐containing induction chemotherapies (R‐induction). We excluded those who died or received additional chemotherapy within 180 days after R‐induction. Among the 396 enrolled patients, 260 underwent rituximab maintenance (R‐maintenance group), and 136 served as the observation group. The R‐maintenance group received less anthracycline and fewer cycles of R‐induction than the observation group, but they exhibited a significantly better OS both in the univariate and multivariate analyses [hazard ratio, 0.42; 95% confidence interval, 0.19‐0.91] after adjusting for age, sex, and Ann Arbor stages. Meanwhile, we also found more patients required further therapies in the first 6 months after the cease of rituximab maintenance. In the subgroup analysis, patients older than 60 years or with stage IV diseases benefited more from rituximab maintenance. Conclusively, our nationwide study is the first one to demonstrate the OS benefit of rituximab maintenance after induction therapies in newly diagnosed FL patients from Asian populations. Methods: A retrospective analysis of 1303 bladder cancer patients receiving radical cystectomy and bilateral pelvic lymph node dissection were identified in the National Taiwan Cancer Registry database from 2011 to 2017. Based on the 304 patients with lymph node involvement, the presence of ENE and major clinical information were recorded and calculated. The overall survival (OS) and cancer-specific survival (CSS) were estimated with Kaplan–Meier analysis and compared using the log-rank test. Hazard ratios (HR) and the associated 95% confidence intervals were calculated in the univariate and stepwise multivariable models. Results: In the multivariable analysis, ENE significantly reduced OS (HR = 1.74, 95% CI 1.09–2.78) and CSS (HR = 1.69, 95% CI 1.01–2.83) more than non-ENE. In contrast, adjuvant chemotherapy was significantly associated with better OS and CSS upon the identification of pathological nodal disease. Conclusions: Reduced OS and CSS outcomes were observed in the pathological nodal bladder cancer patients with ENE compared with those without ENE. Background: Numerous studies have revealed that statins have antitumor effects in vivo and in vitro. However, few studies have explored the relationship between statin use and the mortality of gastric cancer (GC) patients after treatments. This study examines the relationship between statin use and the overall survival (OS) of GC patients after surgery and adjuvant chemotherapy, using data from the nationwide cohort database of Taiwan. Methods: All patients newly diagnosed with GC from 1999 to 2008 in Taiwan were identified from the Registry of Catastrophic Illness Patients Database. Through propensity score matching, statin users were matched to statin non-users at a 1:4 ratio. The relationship between statin use and the OS of patients with GC was estimated through Cox regression models. Results: The study cohort included 1835 patients with GC who had received therapies during the study period. The death numbers among statin users (defined as those who used more than 28 cumulative defined daily doses (cDDDs)) and statin non-users were 138 and 895, respectively. A dose–response association was noted between statin use and the OS of patients with GC after treatments. The adjusted hazard ratios were 0.62 (95% confidence intervals (CI), 0.50–0.78) and 0.34 (95% CI, 0.26–0.45) for statin users administered 28–167 cDDDs and >168 cDDDs, respectively, compared with no statin use (<28 cDDDs). Conclusions: This study highlights that statin use may dose-dependently improve the OS of patients with GC after surgery and adjuvant chemotherapy in Taiwan.
