The purpose of image smoothing is to improve the visual effect of the image and improve the clarity of the image, so as to make the image more conducive to computer processing and various feature analysis. Because the current technology fails to smooth the preprocessed image, it leads to the extraction of image texture features. The anti-interference performance is weak. For this reason, an image texture feature extraction technology based on the digital twin is proposed. Similarity analysis is carried out through the internal structure of the image, and the image is smoothed by the semisupervised learning method. On the basis of optimizing the denoised image through digital twinning, detect target feature points in the original image, then remove the abnormal and split feature points, assign the direction of image texture feature points, and build a fuzzy back propagation neural network model. Image texture feature extraction technology is implemented. The experimental results show that, compared with the traditional method, the proposed technique has a strong identification of original image features, and has a strong consistency with original data, and has a strong ability to resist the influence of abnormal data, noise, or redundant feature points. Up-to-date information regarding impervious surface is valuable for urban planning and management. The objective of this study is to develop neural computing models used for automatic impervious surface area detection at a regional scale. To achieve this task, advanced optimizers of adaptive moment estimation (Adam), a variation of Adam called Adamax, Nesterov-accelerated adaptive moment estimation (Nadam), Adam with decoupled weight decay (AdamW), and a new exponential moving average variant (AMSGrad) are used to train the artificial neural network models employed for impervious surface detection. These advanced optimizers are benchmarked with the conventional gradient descent with momentum (GDM). Remotely sensed images collected from Sentinel-2 satellite for the study area of Da Nang city (Vietnam) are used to construct and verify the proposed approach. Moreover, texture descriptors including statistical measurements of color channels and binary gradient contour are employed to extract useful features for the neural computing model-based pattern recognition. Experimental result supported by statistical test points out that the Nadam optimizer-based neural computing model has achieved the most desired predictive accuracy for the data collected in the studied region with classification accuracy rate of 97.331%, precision = 0.961, recall = 0.984, negative predictive value = 0.985, and F1 score = 0.972. This study proposes a new method to distinguish between the different qualities of dry alfalfa. This method uses scanning electron microscopy (SEM) to obtain grayscale images, and. then, using an equalized histogram, the gray-level co-occurrence matrix (GLCM) extracts 14 texture features. The texture feature vector is processed by principal component analysis (PCA) and linear discriminant analysis (LDA) to reduce data redundancy and extract the best features. Finally, a back propagation neural network (BPNN) algorithm, an artificial neural network (ANN) and a least square support vector machine (LS-SVM) classification model are established to evaluate the classification effect. The results show that LDA is more effective in transforming the original data. In addition, LDA-based classification results are better than PCA-based classification results, and the recognition rate is 100% accurate. In contrast, the reliability and potential of extracting the main information based on LDA are shown. Bilateral filters have been extensively utilized in a number of image denoising applications such as segmentation, registration, and tissue classification. However, it requires burdensome adjustments of the filter parameters to achieve the best performance for each individual image. To address this problem, this paper proposes a computer-aided parameter decision system based on image texture features associated with neural networks. In our approach, parallel computing with the GPU architecture is first developed to accelerate the computation of the conventional bilateral filter. Subsequently, a back propagation network (BPN) scheme using significant image texture features as the input is established to estimate the GPU-based bilateral filter parameters and its denoising process. The k-fold cross validation method is exploited to evaluate the performance of the proposed automatic restoration framework. A wide variety of T1-weighted brain MR images were employed to train and evaluate this parameter-free decision system with GPU-based bilateral filtering, which resulted in a speed-up factor of 208 comparing to the CPU-based computation. The proposed filter parameter prediction system achieved a mean absolute percentage error (MAPE) of 6% and was classified as "high accuracy". Our automatic denoising framework dramatically removed noise in numerous brain MR images and outperformed several state-of-the-art methods based on the peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR). The usage of image texture features associated with the BPN to estimate the GPU-based bilateral filter parameters and to automate the denoising process is feasible and validated. The purpose of this study is to test the feasibility for deep CNN–based artificial intelligence methods for automatic classification of the mass margin and shape, while radiomic feature–based machine learning methods were also implemented in this study as baseline and for comparison study. In this retrospective study, 596 patients with breast mass that underwent mammography from 4 hospitals were enrolled from January 2012 to October 2019. Margin and shape of each mass were annotated according to BI-RADS by 2 experienced radiologists. Deep CNN–based AI was implemented for the classification task based on Resnet50. Balanced sampler and CBAM were also used to improve the performance of the Deep CNNs. As comparison, image texture features were extracted and then dimensionality reduction methods (such as PCA, ICA) and classical classifiers (such as SVM, DT, KNN) were used for classification task. Based on Python programming software, accuracy (ACC) was used to evaluate the performance of the model, and the model with the highest ACC value was selected. Deep CNN based on Resnet50 with balanced sampler and CBAM achieved the best performance for both margin and shape classification, with ACC of 0.838 and 0.874, respectively. For the radiomics-based machine learning, the best performance for margin was achieved as 0.676 by the combination of FA + RF, while the best performance for shape was 0.802 by the combination of PCA + MLP. The feasibility for automatic classification with coarse labeling of the mass shape and margin was testified with the deep CNN–based AI methods, while radiomic feature–based machine learning methods achieved inferior classification results. The performance and serviceability of asphalt pavements have a direct influence on people's daily lives. Timely detection of pavement cracks is crucial in the task of periodic pavement survey. This paper proposes and verifies a novel computer vision-based method for recognizing pavement crack patterns. Image processing techniques, including Gaussian steerable filters, projection integrals, and image texture analyses, are employed to characterize the surface condition of asphalt pavement roads. Light Gradient Boosting Machine, Deep Neural Network, and Convolutional Neural Network are employed to recognize various patterns including longitudinal, transverse, diagonal, minor fatigue, and severe fatigue cracks. A dataset, including 12,000 samples, has been collected to construct and verify the computer vision-based approaches. Based on experiments, it can be found that all three machine learning models are capable of delivering good categorization results with an accuracy rate > 0.93 and Cohen's Kappa coefficient > 0.76. The vision-based grasp detection method is an important technique used to research the grasping task of robots. Unfortunately, the performances of these research methods in practice are worse than the state-of-the-art accuracy on public datasets, because shifts in data distribution owing to real-world conditions are common in the real world and neural network-based methods are sensitive to small data changes. These disturbances mainly change the image texture, causing the performance of grasp detection methods to decline sharply. However, the evaluation metric of existing models does not reflect the actual robustness of the method. Therefore, we propose a new solution. First, referring to the existing research on image classification methods, we propose a benchmark to verify the realistic robustness of the grasp detection model. Second, to improve the robustness of the model, we randomly transfer texture knowledge from other images to provide variable texture information for network training. This forces the model to rely more on the contour features of the object than on the texture when making decisions; we call this approach “context-free.” We verify the effectiveness of our method for robustness enhancement in various grasp tasks and test the proposed method in a real robot grasping scene. Nowadays, the information processing capabilities and resource storage capabilities of computers have been greatly improved, which also provides support for the neural network technology. Convolutional neural networks have good characterization capabilities in computer vision tasks, such as image recognition technology. Aiming at the problem of high similarity image recognition and classification in a specific field, this paper proposes a high similarity image recognition and classification algorithm fused with convolutional neural networks. First, we extract the image texture features, train different types, and different resolution image sets and determine the optimal texture different parameter values. Second, we decompose the image into subimages according to the texture difference, extract the energy features of each subimage, and perform classification. Then, the input image feature vector is converted into a one-dimensional vector through the alternating 5-layer convolution and 3-layer pooling of convolutional neural networks. On this basis, different sizes of convolution kernels are used to extract different convolutions of the image features, and then use convolution to achieve the feature fusion of different dimensional convolutions. Finally, through the increase in the number of training and the increase in the amount of data, the network parameters are continuously optimized to improve the classification accuracy in the training set and in the test set. The actual accuracy of the weights is verified, and the convolutional neural network model with the highest classification accuracy is obtained. In the experiment, two image data sets of gems and apples are selected as the experimental data to classify and identify gems and determine the origin of apples. This paper presents a deep learning-based image texture recognition system. The methodology taken in this solution is formed in a bottom-up manner. It means we swipe a moving window through the image in order to categorize if a given region belongs to one of the classes seen in the training process. This categorization is done based on the Deep Neural Network (DNN) of fixed architecture. The training process is fully automated regarding the training data preparation, investigation of the best training algorithm, and its hyper-parameters. The only human input to the system is the definition of the categories for further recognition and generation of the samples (region markings) in the external application chosen by the user. The system is tested on road surface images where its task is to categorize image regions to a different road category (e.g. curb, road surface damage, etc.) and is featured with 90% and above accuracy. Medical image colouring techniques enable to colourize grey‐scale medical images for assisting doctors in diagnosis. Benefiting from the non‐linear fitting ability of deep neural network, deep medical image colouring techniques have achieved remarkable results. However, existing methods are still facing content and structure feature leakage, unrealistic colouring and poor scale invariability. Thus, this paper, proposes a Transformer‐based medical image colouring algorithm with long‐term dependency to avoid feature leakage of coloured images. To be specific, this method employs two different Transformer encoders to generate and encode feature sequences for grey‐scale medical images and real human colour slice images, respectively. Then, a novel multi‐layer Transformer decoder is used to stylize grey‐scale map image features based on the real physical colour feature sequences. For colouring images at different scales, we implement content‐ aware positional encoding with scale invariance and propose style‐aware positional encoding strategy to take realistic and physical colour prior into account. Texture recognition is a pivotal task in computer vision, crucial for applications in material sciences, medicine, and agriculture. Leveraging advancements in Deep Neural Networks (DNNs), researchers seek robust methods to discern intricate patterns in images. In the context of the burgeoning Tactile Internet (TI), efficient texture recognition algorithms are essential for real-time applications. This paper introduces a method named Local Binary Convolution Network with Intra-class Normalization (LBCNIN) for texture recognition. Incorporating features from the last layer of the backbone, LBCNIN employs a non-trainable Local Binary Convolution (LBC) layer, inspired by Local Binary Patterns (LBP), without fine-tuning the backbone. The encoded feature vector is fed into a linear Support Vector Machine (SVM) for classification, serving as the only trainable component. In the context of TI, the availability of images from multiple views, such as in 3D object semantic segmentation, allows for more data per object. Consequently, LBCNIN processes batches where each batch contains images from the same material class, with batch normalization employed as an intra-class normalization method, aiming to produce better results than single images. Comprehensive evaluations across texture benchmarks demonstrate LBCNIN's ability to achieve very good results under different resource constraints, attributed to the variability in backbone architectures. Recently, the low-rank representation (LRR) model has been widely used in the field of remote sensing image denoising due to its excellent noise suppression capability. However, those low-rank-based methods always discard important edge details as residuals, leading to a common issue of blurred edges in denoised results. To address this problem, we take a new look at low-rank residuals and try to extract edge information from them. Therefore, a hierarchical denoising framework was combined with a low-rank model to extract edge information from low-rank residuals within the edge subspace. A prior knowledge matrix was designed to enable the model to learn necessary structural information rather than noise. Also, such traditional model-driven approaches require multiple iterations, and the solutions may be very complex and computationally intensive. To further enhance the noise suppression performance and computing efficiency, a hierarchical low-rank denoising model based on deep unrolling (HLR-DUR) was proposed, integrating deep neural networks into the hierarchical low-rank denoising framework to expand the information capture and representation capabilities of the proposed shallow model. Background: Tooth segmentation on intraoral scanned (IOS) data is a prerequisite for clinical applications in digital workflows. Current state-of-the-art methods lack the robustness to handle variability in dental conditions. This study aims to propose and evaluate the performance of a convolutional neural network (CNN) model for automatic tooth segmentation on IOS images. Methods: A dataset of 761 IOS images (380 upper jaws, 381 lower jaws) was acquired using an intraoral scanner. The inclusion criteria included a full set of permanent teeth, teeth with orthodontic brackets, and partially edentulous dentition. A multi-step 3D U-Net pipeline was designed for automated tooth segmentation on IOS images. The model's performance was assessed in terms of time and accuracy. Additionally, the model was deployed on an online cloud-based platform, where a separate subsample of 18 IOS images was used to test the clinical applicability of the model by comparing three modes of segmentation: automated artificial intelligence-driven (A-AI), refined (R-AI), and semi-automatic (SA) segmentation. Results: The average time for automated segmentation was 31.7 ± 8.1 s per jaw. The CNN model achieved an Intersection over Union (IoU) score of 91%, with the full set of teeth achieving the highest performance and the partially edentulous group scoring the lowest. In terms of clinical applicability, SA took an average of 860.4 s per case, whereas R-AI showed a 2.6-fold decrease in time (328.5 s). Furthermore, R-AI offered higher performance and reliability compared to SA, regardless of the dentition group. Conclusions: The 3D U-Net pipeline was accurate, efficient, and consistent for automatic tooth segmentation on IOS images. This study proposes a novel approach to estimate canopy density in Picea Schrenkiana var. Tianschanica forest sub-compartments by integrating optical and radar satellite data. This effort is aimed at enhancing methodologies for forest resource surveys and monitoring, particularly vital for the sustainable development of semi-arid mountainous areas with fragile ecological environments. The study area is the West Tianshan Mountain Nature Reserve in Xinjiang, which is characterized by its unique dominant tree species, Picea Schrenkiana. A total of 411 characteristic factors were extracted from Gaofen-2 (GF-2) sub-meter optical satellite imagery, Gaofen-3 (GF-3) multi-polarization synthetic aperture radar satellite imagery, and digital elevation model (DEM) data. Consequently, 17 characteristic parameters were selected based on their correlation with canopy density data to construct an estimation model. Three distinct models were developed, including a multiple stepwise regression model (a linear approach), a Back Propagation (BP) neural network model (a neural network-based method), and a Cubist model (a decision tree-based technique). The results indicate that combining optical and radar image characteristics significantly enhances accuracy, with an Average Absolute Percentage Precision (AAPP) value improvement in estimation accuracy from 76.50% (with optical image) and 78.50% (with radar image) to 78.66% (with both). Of the three models, the BP neural network model achieved the highest overall accuracy (79.19%). At the sub-component scale, the BP neural network model demonstrated superior accuracy in low canopy density estimation (75.37%), whereas the Cubist model, leveraging radar image characteristics, excelled in medium density estimations (87.46%). Notably, the integrated Cubist model combining optical and radar data achieved the highest accuracy for high canopy density estimation (89.17%). The increasing sophistication of malware variants such as encryption, polymorphism, and obfuscation calls for the new detection and classification technology. In this paper, MalDeep, a novel malware classification framework of deep learning based on texture visualization, is proposed against malicious variants. Through code mapping, texture partitioning, and texture extracting, we can study malware classification in a new feature space of image texture representation without decryption and disassembly. Furthermore, we built a malware classifier on convolutional neural network with two convolutional layers, two downsampling layers, and many full connection layers. We adopt the dataset, from Microsoft Malware Classification Challenge including 9 categories of malware families and 10868 variant samples, to train the model. The experiment results show that the established MalDeep has a higher accuracy rate for malware classification. In particular, for some backdoor families, the classification accuracy of the model reaches over 99%. The research methodology consists of several stages to develop a noninvasive method of identifying the turgor of potato tubers during the storage. During the first stage, a graphic database (set of training data) has been created for selected varieties of potatoes. As a next step, special proprietary software called 'PID system' was used together with a commercial MATLAB package to extract parameters defining the digital image descriptors. This included: hue space models, shape coefficient and image texture. Thirdly, Artificial Neural Network (ANN) training was conducted with the use of Statistica and MATLAB tools. Early diagnosis and accurate prognosis of colorectal cancer is critical for determining optimal treatment plans and maximizing patient outcomes, especially as the disease progresses into liver metastases. Computed tomography (CT) is a frontline tool for this task; however, the preservation of predictive radiomic features is highly dependent on the scanning protocol and reconstruction algorithm. We hypothesized that image reconstruction with a high-frequency kernel could result in a better characterization of liver metastases features via deep neural networks. This kernel produces images that appear noisier but preserve more sinogram information. A simulation pipeline was developed to study the effects of imaging parameters on the ability to characterize the features of liver metastases. This pipeline utilizes a fractal approach to generate a diverse population of shapes representing virtual metastases, and then it superimposes them on a realistic CT liver region to perform a virtual CT scan using CatSim. Datasets of 10,000 liver metastases were generated, scanned, and reconstructed using either standard or high-frequency kernels. These data were used to train and validate deep neural networks to recover crafted metastases characteristics, such as internal heterogeneity, edge sharpness, and edge fractal dimension. In the absence of noise, models scored, on average, 12.2% ( α = 0.012 ) and 7.5% ( α = 0.049) lower squared error for characterizing edge sharpness and fractal dimension, respectively, when using high-frequency reconstructions compared to standard. However, the differences in performance were statistically insignificant when a typical level of CT noise was simulated in the clinical scan. Our results suggest that high-frequency reconstruction kernels can better preserve information for downstream artificial intelligence-based radiomic characterization, provided that noise is limited. Radio frequency interference (RFI) significantly hampers the target detection performance of frequency-modulated continuous-wave radar. To address the problem and maintain the target echo signal, this paper proposes a priori assumption on the interference component nature in the radar received signal, as well as a method for interference estimation and mitigation via time–frequency analysis. The solution employs Fourier synchrosqueezed transform to implement the radar's beat signal transformation from time domain to time–frequency domain, thus converting the interference mitigation to the task of time–frequency distribution image restoration. The solution proposes the use of image processing based on the dual-tree complex wavelet transform and combines it with the spatial domain-based approach, thereby establishing a dual-domain fusion interference filter for time–frequency distribution images. This paper also presents a convolutional neural network model of structurally improved UNet++, which serves as the interference estimator. The proposed solution demonstrated its capability against various forms of RFI through the simulation experiment and showed a superior interference mitigation performance over other CNN model-based approaches. Mountainous forests are pivotal in the global carbon cycle, serving as substantial reservoirs and sinks of carbon. However, generating a reliable estimate remains a considerable challenge, primarily due to the lack of representative in situ measurements and proper methods capable of addressing their complex spatial variation. Here, we proposed a deep learning-based method that combines Residual convolutional neural networks (ResNet) with in situ measurements, microwave (Sentinel-1 and VOD), and optical data (Sentinel-2 and Landsat) to estimate forest biomass and track its change over the mountainous regions. Our approach, integrating in situ measurements across representative elevations with multi-source remote sensing images, significantly improves the accuracy of biomass estimation in Tibet's complex mountainous forests (R2 = 0.80, root mean squared error = 15.8 MgC ha−1). Moreover, ResNet, which addresses the vanishing gradient problem in deep neural networks by introducing skip connections, enables the extraction of complex spatial patterns from limited datasets, outperforming traditional optical-based or pixel-based methods. The mean value of forest biomass was estimated as 162.8 ± 21.3 MgC ha−1, notably higher than that of forests at comparable latitudes or flat regions in China. Additionally, our findings revealed a substantial forest biomass carbon sink of 3.35 TgC year−1 during 2015–2020, which is largely underestimated by previous estimates, mainly due to the underestimation of mountainous carbon stock. The significant carbon density, combined with the underestimated carbon sink in mountainous regions, emphasizes the urgent need to reassess mountain forests to better approximate the global carbon budget. Recently, skin cancer is one of the spread and dangerous cancers around the world. Early detection of skin cancer can reduce mortality. Traditional methods for skin cancer detection are painful, time-consuming, expensive, and may cause the disease to spread out. Dermoscopy is used for noninvasive diagnosis of skin cancer. Artificial Intelligence (AI) plays a vital role in diseases' diagnosis especially in biomedical engineering field. The automated detection systems based on AI reduce the complications in the traditional methods and can improve skin cancer's diagnosis rate. In this paper, automated early detection system for skin cancer dermoscopic images using artificial intelligent is presented. Adaptive snake (AS) and region growing (RG) algorithms are used for automated segmentation and compared with each other. The results show that AS is accurate and efficient (accuracy = 96%) more than RG algorithm (accuracy = 90%). Artificial Neural networks (ANN) and support vector machine (SVM) algorithms are used for automated classification compared with each other. The proposed system with ANN algorithm shows high accuracy (94%), precision (96%), specificity (95.83%), sensitivity (recall) (92.30%), and F1-score (0.94). Insulators are crucial insulation components and structural supports in power grids, playing a vital role in the transmission lines. Due to temperature fluctuations, internal stress, or damage from hail, insulators are prone to injury. Automatic detection of damaged insulators faces challenges such as diverse types, small defect targets, and complex backgrounds and shapes. Most research for detecting insulator defects has focused on a single defect type or a specific material. However, the insulators in the grid's transmission lines have different colors and materials. Various insulator defects coexist, and the existing methods have difficulty meeting the practical application requirements. Current methods suffer from low detection accuracy and mAP0.5 cannot meet application requirements. This paper proposes an improved you only look once version 7 (YOLOv7) model for multi-type insulator defect detection. First, our model replaces the spatial pyramid pooling cross stage partial network (SPPCSPC) module with the receptive filed block (RFB) module to enhance the network's feature extraction capability. Second, a coordinate attention (CA) mechanism is introduced into the head part to enhance the network's feature representation ability and to improve detection accuracy. Third, a wise intersection over union (WIoU) loss function is employed to address the low-quality samples hindering model generalization during training, thereby improving the model's overall performance. The experimental results indicate that the proposed model exhibits enhancements across various performance metrics. Specifically, there is a 1.6% advancement in mAP_0.5, a corresponding 1.6% enhancement in mAP_0.5:0.95, a 1.3% elevation in precision, and a 1% increase in recall. Moreover, the model achieves parameter reduction by 3.2 million, leading to a decrease of 2.5 GFLOPS in computational cost. Notably, there is also an improvement of 2.81 milliseconds in single-image detection speed. Wind turbines are a crucial part of renewable energy generation, and their reliable and efficient operation is paramount in ensuring clean energy availability. However, the bearings in wind turbines are subjected to high stress and loads, resulting in faults that can lead to costly downtime and repairs. Fault detection in real time is critical to minimize downtime and reduce maintenance costs. In this work, a simple neural network model was designed and implemented on a Raspberry Pi for the real-time detection of wind turbine bearing faults. The model was trained to accurately identify complex patterns in raw sensor data of healthy and faulty bearings. By splitting the data into smaller segments, the model can quickly analyze each segment and generate predictions at high speed. Additionally, simplified algorithms were developed to analyze the segments with minimum latency. The proposed system can efficiently process the sensor data and performs rapid analysis and prediction within 0.06 milliseconds per data segment. The experimental results demonstrate that the model achieves a 99.8% accuracy in detecting wind turbine bearing faults within milliseconds of their occurrence. Bridge expansion joints (BEJs) in service are susceptible to damage from various factors such as fatigue, impact, and environmental conditions. While visual inspection is the most common approach for inspecting BEJs, it is subjective and labor-intensive. In this paper, we propose a novel methodology for detecting the fault status of BEJs, inspired by voiceprint recognition (VPR) based on audio signals. We establish an Artificial Neural Network to filter nonevent segments from low signal-to-noise ratio signals, achieving an AuC value of 0.981. We design and improve ConFormer VPR models with a multifeature aggregation strategy and cascade them to realize fault detection of BEJs. For three successive tasks in classifying environment sound types, vehicle impact types, and faults, the ConFormer VPR models achieve AuC values of 0.975, 0.925, and 0.886, respectively, demonstrating the feasibility of our methods for unmanned inspection of BEJs. The aim of this article is to propose a defect identification method for bare printed circuit boards (PCB) based on multi-feature fusion. This article establishes a description method for various features of grayscale, texture, and deep semantics of bare PCB images. First, the multi-scale directional projection feature, the multi-scale grey scale cooccurrence matrix feature, and the multi-scale gradient directional information entropy feature of PCB were extracted to build the shallow features of defect images. Then, based on migration learning, the feature extraction network of the pre-trained Visual Geometry Group16 (VGG-16) convolutional neural network model was used to extract the deep semantic feature of the bare PCB images. A multi-feature fusion method based on principal component analysis and Bayesian theory was established. The shallow image feature was then fused with the deep semantic feature, which improved the ability of feature vectors to characterize defects. Finally, the feature vectors were input as feature sequences to support vector machines for training, which completed the classification and recognition of bare PCB defects. Experimental results show that the algorithm integrating deep features and multi-scale shallow features had a high recognition rate for bare PCB defects, with an accuracy rate of over 99%. Deep neural networks are effectively utilized for the instance segmentation of muck images from tunnel boring machines (TBMs), providing real-time insights into the surrounding rock condition. However, the high cost of obtaining quality labeled data limits the widespread application of this method. Addressing this challenge, this study presents a semi-symmetrical, fully convolutional masked autoencoder designed for self-supervised pre-training on extensive unlabeled muck image datasets. The model features a four-tier sparse encoder for down-sampling and a two-tier sparse decoder for up-sampling, connected via a conventional convolutional neck, forming a semi-symmetrical structure. This design enhances the model's ability to capture essential low-level features, including geometric shapes and object boundaries. Additionally, to circumvent the trivial solutions in pixel regression that the original masked autoencoder faced, Histogram of Oriented Gradients (HOG) descriptors and Laplacian features have been integrated as novel self-supervision targets. Testing shows that the proposed model can effectively discern essential features of muck images in self-supervised training. When applied to subsequent end-to-end training tasks, it enhances the model's performance, increasing the prediction accuracy of Intersection over Union (IoU) for muck boundaries and regions by 5.9% and 2.4%, respectively, outperforming the enhancements made by the original masked autoencoder. In the process of coal mining, one of the main reasons for the high labor intensity of workers and the frequent occurrence of casualties is the low level of intelligence of coal mining equipment. As the core equipment in the process of coal mining, the intelligence level of shearers directly affects the safety production and mining efficiency of coal mines. Coal and rock recognition technology is the core technology used to realize the intelligentization of shearers, which is an urgent technical problem to be solved in the field of coal mining. In this paper, coal seam images, rock stratum images, and coal–rock mixed-layer images of a coal mining area are taken as the research object, and key technologies such as the construction of a sample image library, classification and recognition, and semantic segmentation are studied by using the relevant theoretical knowledge of artificial neural network models. Firstly, the BP neural network is used to classify and identify coal seam images, rock stratum images, and coal–rock mixed-layer images, so as to distinguish which of the current mining targets of a shearer is the coal seam, rock stratum, or coal–rock mixed layer. Because different mining objectives will lead to different working modes of a shearer, it is necessary to maintain normal power to cut coal when encountering a coal seam, to stop working when encountering rock stratum, and to cut coal along the boundary between a coal seam and rock stratum when encountering a coal–rock mixed stratum. Secondly, the DeepLabv3+ model is used to perform semantic segmentation experiments on the coal–rock mixed-layer images. The purpose is to find out the distribution of coal and rocks in the coal–rock mixed layer in the coal mining area, so as to provide technical support for the automatic adjustment height of the shearer. Finally, the research in this paper achieved a 97.16% recognition rate in the classification and recognition experiment of the coal seam images, rock stratum images, and coal–rock mixed-layer images and a 91.2% accuracy in the semantic segmentation experiment of the coal–rock mixed-layer images. Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs) emerged thanks to the development of deep neural networks. Forgery images generated by various variants of GANs are widely spread on the Internet, which may be damage personal credibility and cause huge property losses. Thus, numerous methods are proposed to detect forgery images, but most of them are designed to detect forgery faces. Therefore, a method to detect forgery images of various scenes is proposed. In this work, central difference convolution and vanilla convolution (CDC‐Mix) are mixed after considering the depth and width features of neural networks and analyzing the influence of attention on network performance. Based on CDC‐Mix, a separable convolution (SeparableCDC‐Mix) is proposed. The proposed method consists of three parts: (1) CDC‐Mix and SeparableCDC‐Mix are used to extract the gradient information and texture features; (2) CDCM is used to extract the multi‐scale information of the image; (3) multi‐scale fusion module (MS‐Fusion) is used to fuse the multi‐scale information from different locations of the network. A large number of experiments have been carried out on several datasets generated by GAN, and the experimental results show that the proposed method has a great improvement compared with the existing advanced methods. Construction materials undergo appearance and textural changes during the construction process. Accurate recognition of these changes is critical for effectively understanding the construction status; however, recognizing the various levels of detailed material conditions is not sufficiently explored. The primary challenge in the detailed recognition of the conditions of the material is the availability of labeled training data. To address this challenge, this study proposes a novel state-of-the-art deep learning model that leverages transfer learning, utilizing the pretrained Inception V3 to transfer knowledge to the limited labeled data set in the construction context. This enables the model to learn meaningful representations from the limited training data, enhancing its ability to accurately classify material conditions. In addition, gray-level co-occurrence matrix (GLCM)–based texture features are extracted from the images to capture the appearance and textural changes in construction materials, which are then concatenated with the transferred convolutional neural network (CNN) features to create a more comprehensive representation of the material conditions. The proposed model achieved an overall classification accuracy of 95% and 71% with limited (208 images) and very small (70 images) data sets, respectively. It outperformed different experimental architectures, including CNN models developed using limited data with and without augmentation, CNN model with data augmentation and transfer learning, separate models using local binary pattern (LBP) and GLCM texture features with super learners trained using augmented limited data. The findings suggest that the proposed model, which combines transfer learning with GLCM-based texture features, is effective in accurately recognizing the conditions of construction materials, even with limited labeled training data. This can contribute to improved construction management and monitoring. There are several practical applications of the proposed model combining CNN architecture with GLCM textures in construction industry. The primary applications are in activities such as quality inspection and progress monitoring. By analyzing images of different material conditions, such as concrete, plaster, or masonry walls, the model can be used to automatically detect defects or inconsistencies. This enables construction practitioners to ensure the quality of their structures, detect issues early on, and make informed decisions for maintenance and repair. Additionally, the model can be used to monitor the progress of construction projects by analyzing images to track the status and completion of different building components to estimate delays or cost overruns comparing with the expected material condition at a given time of the schedule. Deep neural networks have effectively processed substantial quantities of image, text, and speech data. However, they are susceptible to adversarial sample attacks, where slight perturbations modify the input to generate malicious outputs. These attacks pose a severe security risk to deep neural network systems. Prior methods for generating adversarial samples rely on objective L p norm to measure the distance between original and adversarial samples, which can be easily detected by humans. Moreover, these attacks treat perturbations of different pixels equally without considering the sensitivity of the human eye to different pixels. To address these challenges, this paper proposes SenAttack, an adversarial attack method based on perturbation sensitivity and perceptual color distance. SenAttack evaluates perceptual similarity using the perceptual color distance and combines the perturbation sensitivity of image structural information as an additional term in the calculation of the perceptual color distance. Furthermore, it employs an adaptive parameter adjustment algorithm to optimize the iterative process. Experimental results demonstrate that SenAttack achieves a high success rate in white-box attacks on Inception-v3 and ResNet-50 models with few iterations. The average norm distance and perceptual color distance of the adversarial samples are reduced by over 10% and 50% respectively, significantly enhancing their imperceptibility. SenAttack also exhibits superior visual effects in high confidence scenarios and improved robustness against defense models with partial image compression. SenAttack provides a novel approach to adversarial attacks by considering the sensitivity of the human eye and employing perceptual color distance. Lichen mapping is vital for caribou management plans and sustainable land conservation. Previous studies have used random forest, dense neural network, and convolutional neural network models for mapping lichen coverage. However, to date, it is not clear how these models rank in this task. In this study, these machine learning models were evaluated on their ability to predict lichen percent coverage in Sentinel-2 imagery in Québec and Labrador, Canada. The models were trained on 10-m resolution lichen coverage (%) maps created from 20 drone surveys collected in July 2019 and 2022. The dense neural network achieved a higher accuracy than the other two, with a reported mean absolute error of 5.2% and an R2 of 0.76. By comparison, the random forest model returned a mean absolute error of 5.5% (R2: 0.74) and the convolutional neural network had a mean absolute error of 5.3% (R2: 0.74). A regional lichen map was created using the trained dense neural network and a Sentinel-2 imagery mosaic. There was greater uncertainty on land covers that the model was not exposed to in training, such as mines and deep lakes. While the dense neural network requires more computational effort to train than a random forest model, the 5.9% performance gain in the test pixel comparison renders it the most suitable for lichen mapping. This study represents progress toward determining the appropriate methodology for generating accurate lichen maps from satellite imagery for caribou conservation and sustainable land management. Simple Summary: Bladder cancer is the sixth most common cancer in the United States. The prognosis is excellent for localized forms, but the survival rates drop significantly when cancer invades the smooth muscle of the bladder. Imaging is essential for the accurate staging, prognosis, and assessment of therapeutic efficacy in bladder cancer and has the potential to guide personalized treatment strategies. Computed tomography has traditionally been the standard modality, but magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is the emerging technique of choice for its superior soft tissue contrast without exposure to ionizing radiation. Multiparametric (mp)MRI provides physiological data interrogating the biology of the tumor, as well as high-resolution anatomical images. Advanced MRI techniques have enabled new imaging-based clinical endpoints, including novel scoring systems for tumor staging. Artificial intelligence (AI) holds the potential for the automated discovery of clinically relevant patterns in mpMRI images of the bladder. This review focuses on the principles, applications, and performance of mpMRI for bladder imaging. Quantitative imaging biomarkers (QIBs) derived from mpMRI are increasingly used in oncological applications, including tumor staging, prognosis, and assessment of treatment response. To standardize mpMRI acquisition and interpretation, an expert panel developed the Vesical Imaging–Reporting and Data System (VI-RADS). Many studies confirm the standardization and high degree of inter-reader agreement to discriminate muscle invasiveness in bladder cancer, supporting VI-RADS implementation in routine clinical practice. The standard MRI sequences for VI-RADS scoring are anatomical imaging, including T2w images, and physiological imaging with diffusion-weighted MRI (DW-MRI) and dynamic contrast-enhanced MRI (DCE-MRI). Physiological QIBs derived from analysis of DW- and DCE-MRI data and radiomic image features extracted from mpMRI images play an important role in bladder cancer. The current development of AI tools for analyzing mpMRI data and their potential impact on bladder imaging are surveyed. AI architectures are often implemented based on convolutional neural networks (CNNs), focusing on narrow/specific tasks. The application of AI can substantially impact bladder imaging clinical workflows; for example, manual tumor segmentation, which demands high time commitment and has inter-reader variability, can be replaced by an autosegmentation tool. Artificial intelligence (AI) has significantly impacted thyroid cancer diagnosis in recent years, offering advanced tools and methodologies that promise to revolutionize patient outcomes. This review provides an exhaustive overview of the contemporary frameworks employed in the field, focusing on the objective of AI-driven analysis and dissecting methodologies across supervised, unsupervised, and ensemble learning. Specifically, we delve into techniques such as deep learning, artificial neural networks, traditional classification, and probabilistic models (PMs) under supervised learning. With its prowess in clustering and dimensionality reduction, unsupervised learning (USL) is explored alongside ensemble methods, including bagging and potent boosting algorithms. The thyroid cancer datasets (TCDs) are integral to our discussion, shedding light on vital features and elucidating feature selection and extraction techniques critical for AI-driven diagnostic systems. The processing of aerial images taken by drones is a challenging task due to their high resolution and the presence of small objects. The scale of the objects varies diversely depending on the position of the drone, which can result in loss of information or increased difficulty in detecting small objects. To address this issue, images are either randomly cropped or divided into small patches before training and inference. This paper proposes a defect detection framework that harnesses the advantages of slice-aided inference for small and medium-size damage on the surface of wind turbine blades. This framework enables the comparison of different slicing strategies, including a conventional patch division strategy and a more recent slice-aided hyper-inference, on several state-of-the-art deep neural network baselines for the detection of surface defects in wind turbine blade images. Our experiments provide extensive empirical results, highlighting the benefits of using the slice-aided strategy and the significant improvements made by these networks on an ultra high-resolution drone image dataset. This paper presents a system for automated, non-contact, and flexible prediction of surface roughness of end-milled parts through a machine vision system which is integrated with an artificial neural network (ANN). The images of milled surface grabbed by the machine vision system could be extracted using the algorithm developed in this work, in the spatial frequency domain using a two-dimensional Fourier transform to get the features of image texture (major peak frequency F, principal component magnitude squared value F, and the average gray level G). Since F1 is the distance between the major peak and the origin, it is a robust measure to overcome the effect of lighting of the environment. The periodically occurring features such as feed marks and tool marks present in the gray-level image can be easily observed from the principal component magnitude squared value F The experimental machining variables speed S, feedrate F, depth of cut D, and the response extracted image variables F, F, and G could be used as input data, and the response surface roughness R measured by Surfcorder SE-1100 (traditional stylus method) could be used as output data of an ANN ability to construct the relationships between input and output variables. The ANN was trained using the back-propagation algorithm developed in this work due to its superior strength in pattern recognition and reasonable speed. Using the trained ANN, the experimental result had shown that the surface roughness of milled parts predicted by machine vision system over a wide range of machining conditions could be got with a reasonable accuracy compared with those measured by traditional stylus method. Compared with the stylus method, the constructed machine vision system is a useful method for prediction of the surface roughness faster, with a lower price, and lower environment noise in manufacturing process. Experimental results have shown that the proposed machine vision system can be implemented for automated prediction of surface roughness with accuracy of 97.53%. A multisensor data fusion algorithm based on a multilayer neural network is presented for sea ice classification in the winter period. The algorithm uses European Remote Sensing (ERS), RADARSAT synthetic aperture radar (SAR), and low-resolution television camera images and image texture features. Based on a set of in situ observations made at the Kara Sea, a neural network is trained, and its structure is optimized using a pruning method. The performance of the algorithm with different combinations of input features (sensors) is assessed and compared with the performance of a linear discriminant analysis (LDA)-based algorithm. We show that for both algorithms a substantial improvement can be gained by fusion of the three different types of data (91.2% for the neural network) as compared with single-source ERS (66.0%) and RADARSAT (70.7%) SAR image classification. Incorporation of texture increases classification accuracy. This positive effect of texture becomes weaker with increasing number of sensors (from 8.4 to 6.4 percent points for the use of two and three sensors, respectively). In view of the short training time and smaller number of adjustable parameters, this result suggests that semiparametric classification methods can be considered as a good alternative to the neural networks and traditional parametric statistical classifiers applied for the sea ice classification. Deep learning has achieved remarkable success in numerous computer vision tasks. However, recent research reveals that deep neural networks are vulnerable to natural perturbations from poor visibility conditions, limiting their practical applications. While several studies have focused on enhancing model robustness in poor visibility conditions through techniques such as image restoration, data augmentation, and unsupervised domain adaptation, these efforts are predominantly confined to specific scenarios and fail to address multiple poor visibility scenarios encountered in real-world settings. Furthermore, the valuable prior knowledge inherent in poor visibility images is seldom utilized to aid in resolving high-level computer vision tasks. In light of these challenges, we propose a novel deep learning paradigm designed to bolster the robustness of object recognition across diverse poor visibility scenes. By observing the prior information in diverse poor visibility scenes, we integrate a feature matching module based on this prior knowledge into our proposed learning paradigm, aiming to facilitate deep models in learning more robust generic features at shallow levels. Moreover, to further enhance the robustness of deep features, we employ an adversarial learning strategy based on mutual information. This strategy combines the feature matching module to extract task-specific representations from low visibility scenes in a more robust manner, thereby enhancing the robustness of object recognition. We evaluate our approach on self-constructed datasets containing diverse poor visibility scenes, including visual blur, fog, rain, snow, and low illuminance. Cyst nematodes are plant parasitic nematodes infecting crops, causing extensive crop damage and annual losses, and affecting food production. The precise species identification is significant to initiate their control. The repeatable, less expensive, and less laborious distinguishing cyst nematode species using image processing and artificial intelligence can be advantageous. The objective of this study was to distinguish cyst nematodes belonging to the species Globodera pallida, Globodera rostochiensis, and Heterodera schachtii based on image parameters using artificial neural networks (ANN). The application of parameters selected from a set of 2172 textures of images in color channels L, a, b, X, Y, Z, R, G, B, V, U, and S to build classification models using a narrow neural network, medium neural network, wide neural network, trilayered neural network, WiSARD, multilayer perceptron, and RBF network is a great novelty of the present study. Algorithms allowed for distinguishing cyst nematode species with an average accuracy reaching 89.67% for a model developed using WiSARD. The highest correctness was obtained for H. schachtii and this species was distinguished from each other with the highest accuracy of 95–98% depending on the classifier. Whereas the highest number of misclassified cases occurred between G. pallida, G. rostochiensis belonging to the same genus Globodera. To help readers better understand the current research status and ideas, this article provides a detailed overview of the working mechanisms and use cases of commonly used radiological imaging and histopathology, the basic architecture of deep learning, classical pretrained models, common methods to overcome overfitting, and the application of deep learning in medical image-based cancer diagnosis. Finally, the data, label, model, and radiomics were discussed specifically and the current challenges and future research hotspots were discussed and analyzed. (1) Background: The application of deep learning technology to realize cancer diagnosis based on medical images is one of the research hotspots in the field of artificial intelligence and computer vision. Due to the rapid development of deep learning methods, cancer diagnosis requires very high accuracy and timeliness as well as the inherent particularity and complexity of medical imaging. A comprehensive review of relevant studies is necessary to help readers better understand the current research status and ideas. (2) Methods: Five radiological images, including X-ray, ultrasound (US), computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), positron emission computed tomography (PET), and histopathological images, are reviewed in this paper. The basic architecture of deep learning and classical pretrained models are comprehensively reviewed. In particular, advanced neural networks emerging in recent years, including transfer learning, ensemble learning (EL), graph neural network, and vision transformer (ViT), are introduced. Five overfitting prevention methods are summarized: batch normalization, dropout, weight initialization, and data augmentation. The application of deep learning technology in medical image-based cancer analysis is sorted out. (3) Results: Deep learning has achieved great success in medical image-based cancer diagnosis, showing good results in image classification, image reconstruction, image detection, image segmentation, image registration, and image synthesis. However, the lack of high-quality labeled datasets limits the role of deep learning and faces challenges in rare cancer diagnosis, multi-modal image fusion, model explainability, and generalization. (4) Conclusions: There is a need for more public standard databases for cancer. The pre-training model based on deep neural networks has the potential to be improved, and special attention should be paid to the research of multimodal data fusion and supervised paradigm. In our research, we propose a method that utilizes Generative Adversarial Networks (GAN) to translate T2-weighted-Fluid-attenuated-Inversion-Recovery (FLAIR) MRI volumes into T2-Weighted (T2W) volumes, and vice versa. To evaluate the effectiveness of our approach, we introduce a novel evaluation schema that incorporates radiomic features. We train two distinct GAN-based architectures, namely Cycle GAN and Dual Cycle-Consistent Adversarial network (DC2Anet), using 510 pair-slices from 102 patients. Our findings indicate that the generative methods can produce results similar to the original sequence without significant changes in radiometric features. This method has the potential to assist clinicians in making informed decisions based on generated images when alternative sequences are unavailable, or time constraints prevent re-scanning MRI patients. One of the most common challenges in brain MRI scans is to perform different MRI sequences depending on the type and properties of tissues. Machine learning is frequently combined with imagery acquired from uncrewed aircraft systems (UASs) to detect invasive plants. Having prior knowledge of which machine learning algorithm will produce the most accurate results is difficult. This study examines the efficacy of a voting-based ensemble classifier to identify invasive Phragmites australis from three-band (red, green, blue; RGB) and five-band (red, green, blue, red edge, near-infrared; multispectral; MS) UAS imagery acquired over multiple Minnesota wetlands. A Random Forest, histogram-based gradient-boosting classification tree, and two artificial neural networks were used within the voting-based ensemble classifier. Classifications from the RGB and multispectral imagery were compared across validation sites both with and without post-processing from an object-based image analysis (OBIA) workflow (post-machine learning OBIA rule set; post-ML OBIA rule set). Results from this study suggest that a voting-based ensemble classifier can accurately identify invasive Phragmites australis from RGB and multispectral imagery. Accuracies greater than 80% were attained by the voting-based ensemble classifier for both the RGB and multispectral imagery. The highest accuracy, 91%, was achieved when using the multispectral imagery, a canopy height model, and a post-ML OBIA rule set. We survey results concerning a new stochastic network we have developed [1–7], which was initially motivated by neural network modelling [1], or - as we called it - by queueing networks with positive and negative customers [2, 3]. Indeed, it is well known that signals in neural networks are formed by impulses or action potentials, traveling much like customers in a queueing network. We call this model a G-network because it serves as a unifying basis for diverse areas of stochastic modelling in queueing networks, computer networks, computer system performance and neural networks. In its simplest version, ‘negative’ and ‘positive’ signals or customers circulate among a finite set of units, modelling inhibitory and excitatory signals of a neural network, or ‘negative and positive customers’ of a queueing network. Signals can arrive either from other units or from the outside world. Positive signals are accumulated at the input of each unit, and constitute its signal potential. The state of each unit or neuron is its signal potential (which is equivalent to the queue length), while the network state is the vector of signal potentials at each neuron. If its potential is positive, a unit or neuron fires, and sends out signals to the other neurons or to the outside world. As it does so, its signal potential is depleted. In the Markovian case, this model has product form, i.e. the steady-state probability distribution of its potential vector is the product of the marginal probabilities of the potential at each neuron. The signal flow equations of the network, which describe the rate at which positive or negative signals arrive to each neuron, are non-linear. We discuss the relationship between this model and the usual connectionist (formal) model of neural networks, and present applications to combinatorial optimization and to image texture processing. Extensions of the model to the case of ‘multiple signal classes’, and to ‘networks with triggered customer motion’ are presented. The outstanding performance of deep neural networks (DNNs) in multiple computer vision in recent years has promoted its widespread use in aerial image semantic segmentation. Nonetheless, prior research has demonstrated the high susceptibility of DNNs to adversarial attacks. This poses significant security risks when applying DNNs to safety-critical earth observation missions. As an essential means of attacking DNNs, data poisoning attacks destroy model performance by contaminating model training data, allowing attackers to control prediction results by carefully crafting poisoning samples. Toward building a more robust DNNs-based aerial image semantic segmentation model, in this study, we proposed a robust invariant feature enhancement network (RIFENet) that can resist data poisoning attacks and has superior semantic segmentation performance. The constructed RIFENet improves the resistance to poisoning attacks by extracting and enhancing robust invariant features. Specifically, RIFENet uses a texture feature enhancement module (T-FEM), structural feature enhancement module (S-FEM), global feature enhancement module (G-FEM), and multi-resolution feature fusion module (MR-FFM) to enhance the representation of different robust features in the feature extraction process to suppress the interference of poisoning samples. Experiments on several benchmark aerial image datasets demonstrate that the proposed method is more robust and exhibits better generalization than other state-of-the-art methods. Growth factors affect farm owners, environmental conditions, nutrient adaptation, and resistance to chrysanthemum diseases. Healthy chrysanthemum plants can overcome all these factors and provide farms owners with a lot of income. Chrysanthemum white rust disease is a common disease that occurs worldwide; if not treated promptly, the disease spreads to the entire leaf surface, causing the plant's leaves to burn, turn yellow, and fall prematurely, reducing the photosynthetic performance of the plant and the appearance of the flower branches. In Korea, chrysanthemum white rust disease most often occurs during the spring and autumn seasons, when temperature varies during the summer monsoon, and when ventilation is poor in the winter. Deep neural networks were used to determine healthy and unhealthy plants. We applied the Raspberry Pi 3 module to recognize white rust and test four neural network models. The five main deep neural network processes utilized for a dataset of non-diseased and white rust leaves include: (1) data collection; (2) data partitioning; (3) feature extraction; (4) feature engineering; and (5) prediction modeling based on the train–test loss of 35 epochs within 20 min using Linux. White rust recognition is performed for comparison using four models, namely, DenseNet-121, ResNet-50, VGG-19, and MobileNet v2. The qualitative white rust detection system is achieved using a Raspberry Pi 3 module. All models accomplished an accuracy of over 94%, and MobileNet v2 achieved the highest accuracy, precision, and recall at over 98%. In the precision comparison, DenseNet-121 obtained the second highest recognition accuracy of 97%, whereas ResNet-50 and VGG-19 achieved slightly lower accuracies at 95% and 94%, respectively. Qualitative results were obtained using the Raspberry Pi 3 module to assess the performance of the seven models. All models had accuracies of over 91%, with ResNet-50 obtaining a value of 91%, VGG-19 reaching a value of 93%, DenseNet-121 reaching 95%, SqueezeNet obtaining over 95%, MobileNet obtaining over 96%, and MobileNetv2-YOLOv3 reaching 92%. The highest accuracy rate was 97% (MobileNet v2). MobileNet v2 was validated as the most effective model to recognize white rust in chrysanthemums using the Raspberry Pi 3 system. Raspberry Pi 3 module was considered, in conjunction with the MobileNet v2 model, to be the best application system. MobileNet v2 and Raspberry Pi require a low cost for the recognition of chrysanthemum white rust and the diagnosis of chrysanthemum plant health conditions, reducing the risk of white rust disease and minimizing costs and efforts while improving floral production. Medical image categorization is essential for a variety of medical assessments and education functions. The purpose of medical image classification is to organize medical images into useful categories for the purpose of illness diagnosis or study, making it one of the most pressing issues in the field of image recognition. On the other hand, traditional methods have plateaued in their effectiveness. Additionally, a substantial amount of time and energy is required when employing them to extract and choose categorization features. Alzheimer's disease is one of the most frequent sources of dementia in elderly patients. Metabolic diseases affect a huge population worldwide, and henceforth, there is a vast scope of applying machine learning to find treatments to these diseases. As a relatively new machine learning technique, deep neural networks have shown great promise for a variety of categorization problems. In this research, a model for diagnosing and tracking the development of Alzheimer's disease that is both accurate and easy to understand has been developed. By following the developed procedure, medical professionals may make deliberations with solid justification. Early diagnosis utilizing these machine learning algorithms has the potential to minimize mortality rates associated with Alzheimer's disease. This research work has developed a convolutional neural network using a shallow convolution layer to identify Alzheimer's disease in medical image patches. Predictive maintenance has been employed to reduce maintenance costs and production losses and to prevent any failure before it occurs. The framework proposed in this work performs diesel engine prognosis by evaluating the absolute value of the failure severity using random forest (RF) and multilayer perceptron (MLP) neural networks. A database was implemented with 3500 failure scenarios to overcome the problem of inducing destructive failures in diesel engines. Diesel engine failure signals were developed with the zero-dimensional thermodynamic model inside a cylinder coupled with the crankshaft torsional vibration model. Artificial neural networks and random forest regression models were employed for classifying and quantifying failures. The methodology was applied alongside an engine simulator to assess effectiveness and accuracy. The best-fitting performance was obtained with the random forest regressor with an RMSE value of 0.10 ± 0.03%. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The need for a fast and robust method to characterize nanostructure thickness is growing due to the tremendous number of experiments and their associated applications. By automatically analyzing the microscopic image texture of MoS2 and WS2, it was possible to distinguish monolayer from few-layer nanostructures with high accuracy for both materials. Three methods of texture analysis (TA) were used: grey level histogram (GLH), grey levels co-occurrence matrix (GLCOM), and run-length matrix (RLM), which correspond to first, second, and higher-order statistical methods, respectively. The best discriminating features were automatically selected using the Fisher coefficient, for each method, and used as a base for classification. Two classifiers were used: artificial neural networks (ANN), and linear discriminant analysis (LDA). RLM with ANN was found to give high classification accuracy, which was 89% and 95% for MoS2 and WS2, respectively. The result of this work suggests that RLM, as a higher-order TA method, associated with an ANN classifier has a better ability to quantify and characterize the microscopic structure of nanolayers, and, therefore, categorize thickness to the proper class. Automated dental imaging interpretation is one of the most prolific areas of research using artificial intelligence. X-ray imaging systems have enabled dental clinicians to identify dental diseases. However, the manual process of dental disease assessment is tedious and error-prone when diagnosed by inexperienced dentists. Thus, researchers have employed different advanced computer vision techniques, as well as machine and deep learning models for dental disease diagnoses using X-ray imagery. In this regard, a lightweight Mask-RCNN model is proposed for periapical disease detection. The proposed model is constructed in two parts: a lightweight modified MobileNet-v2 backbone and region-based network (RPN) are proposed for periapical disease localization on a small dataset. To measure the effectiveness of the proposed model, the lightweight Mask-RCNN is evaluated on a custom annotated dataset comprising images of five different types of periapical lesions. The results reveal that the model can detect and localize periapical lesions with an overall accuracy of 94%, a mean average precision of 85%, and a mean insection over a union of 71.0%. The proposed model improves the detection, classification, and localization accuracy significantly using a smaller number of images compared to existing methods and outperforms state-of-the-art approaches.
