We also acknowledge the technical support of Ifremer, AIM and Foselev Marine for the sea operation and the CC-IN2P3 for the computing facilities., This letter presents a combined measurement of the energy spectra of atmospheric nu(e) and nu(mu) in the energy range between similar to 100 GeV and similar to 50 TeV with the ANTARES neutrino telescope. The analysis uses 3012 days of detector livetime in the period 2007-2017, and selects 1016 neutrinos interacting in (or close to) the instrumented volume of the detector, yielding shower-like events (mainly from nu(e) + (nu) over bar (e) charged current plus all neutrino neutral current interactions) and starting track events (mainly from nu(mu) + (nu) over bar (mu) charged current interactions). The contamination by atmospheric muons in the final sample is suppressed at the level of a few per mill by different steps in the selection analysis, including a Boosted Decision Tree classifier. The distribution of reconstructed events is unfolded in terms of electron and muon neutrino fluxes. Abstract

The knowledge of the initial flux, energy and flavor of current neutrino beams is the main limitation for a precise measurement of neutrino cross-sections. The ENUBET ERC project is studying a facility based on a narrow-band neutrino beam capable of constraining the neutrino fluxes normalization through the monitoring of the associated charged leptons in an instrumented decay tunnel. In ENUBET, the identification of large-angle positrons from [Formula: see text] decays at single particle level can potentially reduce the [Formula: see text] flux uncertainty at the level of 1%. This setup would allow for an unprecedented measurement of the [Formula: see text] cross-section at the GeV scale. This input would be highly beneficial to reduce the budget of systematic uncertainties in the next long baseline oscillation projects. Furthermore, in narrow-band beams, the transverse position of the neutrino interaction at the detector can be exploited to determine a priori with significant precision the neutrino energy spectrum without relying on the final state reconstruction. This contribution will present the advances in the design and simulation of the hadronic beam line. Special emphasis will be given to a static focusing system of secondary mesons that can be coupled to a slow extraction proton scheme. The consequent reduction of particle rates and pile-up effects makes the determination of the [Formula: see text] flux through a direct monitoring of muons after the hadron dump viable, and paves the way to a time-tagged neutrino beam. Time-coincidences among the lepton at the source and the neutrino at the detector would enable an unprecedented purity and the possibility to reconstruct the neutrino kinematics at source on an event-by-event basis. We will also present the performance of positron tagger prototypes tested at CERN beamlines, a full simulation of the positron reconstruction chain and the expected physics reach of ENUBET.

Abstract

International audience; The precise knowledge of the neutrino flux composition and kinematics is one of the biggest challenges of long-baseline experiments such as T2K. Neutrinos are made by the in-flight decay of unstable hadrons produced by the interactions of 31GeV/c protons in a long graphite target. Mostly π (+) (π (−)) are created, leading to the ${\nu }_{\mu }({\bar{\nu }}_{\mu })$ enhanced flux. As kaons and muons are also produced, an irreducible background of electron (anti-)neutrino is also present. The main source of uncertainty in the flux prediction is driven by the lack of data on the proton-carbon interaction in this energy range. The measurements performed by the NA61/SHINE large-acceptance experiment at CERN are used by the T2K collaboration to improve the flux predictions. Two datasets have been taken: using a thin target to study the primary interaction, and a replica of the T2K target to account for the re-interactions. The recently released differential multiplicity distributions of π (±) along the replica target measured in NA61/SHINE will be presented. This dataset is now in the process of being used by T2K to further tune the flux prediction as 90% of the neutrinos will be directly constrained.

Abstract

We report on a new analysis of neutrino oscillations in MINOS using the complete set of accelerator and atmospheric data. The analysis combines the νμ disappearance and νe appearance data using the three-flavor formalism. We measure |Δm232|=[2.28–2.46]×10−3 eV2 (68% C.L.) and sin2θ23=0.35–0.65 (90% C.L.) in the normal hierarchy, and |Δm232|=[2.32–2.53]×10−3 eV2 (68% C.L.) and sin2θ23=0.34–0.67 (90% C.L.) in the inverted hierarchy. The data also constrain δCP, the θ23 octant degeneracy and the mass hierarchy; we disfavor 36% (11%) of this three-parameter space at 68% (90%) C.L., Physics

Abstract

A review of accelerator long-baseline neutrino oscillation experiments is provided, including all experiments performed to date and the projected sensitivity of those currently in progress. Accelerator experiments have played a crucial role in the confirmation of the neutrino oscillation phenomenon and in precision measurements of the parameters. With a fixed baseline and detectors providing good energy resolution, precise measurements of the ratio of distance/energy (L/E) on the scale of individual events have been made and the expected oscillatory pattern resolved. Evidence for electron neutrino appearance has recently been obtained, opening a door for determining the CP violating phase as well as resolving the mass hierarchy and the octant of theta23: some of the last unknown parameters of the standard model extended to include neutrino mass., Physics

Abstract

The energy dependence of the neutrino-iron and antineutrino-iron inclusive charged-current cross sections and their ratio have been measured using a high-statistics sample with the MINOS near detector exposed to the NuMI beam from the main injector at Fermilab. Neutrino and antineutrino fluxes were determined using a low hadronic energy subsample of charged-current events. We report measurements of ν−Fe (ν⎯⎯−Fe) cross section in the energy range 3–50 GeV (5–50 GeV) with precision of 2%–8% (3%–9%) and their ratio which is measured with precision 2%–8%. The data set spans the region from low energy, where accurate measurements are sparse, up to the high-energy scaling region where the cross section is well understood., Physics
