This study aims to analyse the metaphors used in user comments about the concept of 'library' in digital participatory dictionaries. The research aims to understand the social perception of libraries and their role in the digital age. The study analysed user comments in Ekşi Dictionary (397 comments) and Uludağ Dictionary (186 comments) using qualitative research method and content analysis technique. The data were analysed within the framework of conceptual metaphor theory and coded using MAXQDA software. As a result of the analysis, the metaphors were grouped under five main themes: metaphors that likened the library to a physical space, a spiritual and mental space, a centre of knowledge and culture, a place of peace and tranquillity, and metaphors that saw it as functionally inadequate. The findings showed that libraries are perceived as not only a source of information but also as institutions of critical importance for social, cultural and individual development. Users' expectations of libraries are multifaceted, and they see these institutions as places of peace, providing opportunities for personal development, reducing social inequalities, and preserving cultural heritage. This study sheds light on reassessing the public perception of libraries and their role in the digital age. The findings provide a new perspective on the place and importance of libraries in contemporary society and offer important insights for shaping future strategies. However, some users found libraries functionally inadequate, indicating that these organisations face challenges in adapting to the needs of the times. As a result, the future of libraries will depend on how they adapt to changing societal needs and technological advances. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

With academic libraries becoming increasingly involved in copyright issues, the ability to responsibly identify a copyright-protected material is becoming important in the administration of reprographic materials in academic libraries. A mixed methods approach was employed to evaluate the adequacy of copyright information or documentation, the need for training, and the mechanisms for educating library users on responsible use of reprographic materials that ensures a balance of stakeholder rights. Quantitative data was collected from 38 library staff and 530 postgraduate students, while qualitative data was collected from four head librarians (through one-on-one interview sessions), and two groups of six postgraduate students each from two public and two private universities in Ghana (through focus group discussion sessions). Only 21.4 % stated that copyright information or documentation on copyright policies on their university campuses was adequate. Copyright education for both staff and students was generally low in all the four institutions. Only "classroom training" had significant impact on users' understanding of copyright laws and policies. "Professional associations," "study visits," and "consultant training" had little impact on the understanding of students about copyright laws despite most library staff being either "comfortable" or "very comfortable" with their level of knowledge on copyright issues. There is therefore the need to incorporate copyright issues in the school curriculum for students as well as institute CPD programs for professional librarians if academic librarians are to efficiently and adequately play their roles as agents of copyright education to the university community. This paper reports on a study of 58 urban teen public library users that sought to understand teens' recreational reading behavior in the context of their digital experiences, among other influences. The study's primary research questions were (1) What strategies do teen public library users employ to select recreational books? and (2) What external and internal factors influence their choices? Participants were surveyed on the strategies they used to select recreational reading material. They reported physically browsing for books and gathering recommendations from social media and websites as well as getting recommendations from people. However, survey respondents did not use social media to make recreational reading choices as often as expected. Another surprising finding was that educational motivations for recreational reading were slightly stronger than social/emotional motivations. Although this study was too small in scope to generalize to all teens, it confirms findings from previous studies that teens continue to engage in recreational reading for a variety of reasons, get reading recommendations from adults and peers, and are sometimes influenced in their reading choices by their digital lives. The article explores the rise of laws and policies in Texas and other states that promote citizen reporting to the government. It uses a specific case in Texas to illustrate how these laws extend beyond abortion to issues like LGBTQ rights and school curricula, creating a culture of surveillance and informants. The article draws parallels to the Red Scare of the 1940s and '50s, highlighting the potential suppression of free speech and imposition of conservative beliefs. It also discusses the impact on families with transgender children, censorship in schools, book bans, and the fear and uncertainty caused by Texas' abortion laws. [Extracted from the article]

Inclusiveness and honoring different cultures that reflect our patrons has been discussed in many different venues in the last few years. The staff of the Brigham Young University Library recognized the need for our metadata to demonstrate the commitment we have to honor others and to create a community of belonging. The staff also recognized that a policy would provide a roadmap for how to embark on fixing legacy metadata and how to move forward in creating metadata that reflects our core values in the library and at the university. This case study details how we developed an inclusive metadata policy and its accompanying documentation. We provide examples of how the policy is being implemented and the steps we have taken to help library staff understand cultural humility and how it can be applied in their work. Objective – The accessibility of non-traditional resources presents ongoing challenges for users and librarians. This study investigates methods for optimizing metadata and the placement of search results to enhance the discoverability of these resources within library systems. Researchers conducted A/B testing to compare two features of Ex Libris Primo: the Resource Recommender and Discovery Import Profiles. The objective was to enhance user access to a broader range of informational assets beyond conventional collections. This study posed the research question: Is inclusion in the results list (Discovery Import Profiles) or are visually appealing advertisement-style cards above results (Resource Recommender) a more effective method for discovery of non-traditional library resources? Methods – Researchers identified four key resource types for testing: librarians, frequently asked questions (FAQs), databases, and research guides. An A/B test was conducted with each resource presented in the Discovery Import Profiles and Resource Recommender formats. Following the A/B test, a combined C test was conducted to validate findings. Results – The ad-style cards achieved higher engagement rates, particularly for databases and FAQs, while research guides performed better when embedded directly in search results. This study highlights the strengths and limitations of each method. Databases and FAQs benefited from the visual prominence of the ad-style cards, while research guides were more discoverable within search results. However, minimal engagement with librarians as a resource type across both methods suggests the need for improved tagging and metadata strategies. Conclusion – Findings underscore the importance of institution-specific research and localized assessments to ensure effective implementation of discovery strategies. This study provides a useful method for libraries aiming to enhance the discoverability of their non-traditional resources, ultimately improving user access and satisfaction. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper compares website usability—specifically library users’ understanding of library terms—for fifty-one original research studies between 2012-2021, with the findings of John Kupersmith’s 2011 white paper “Library Terms That Users Understand.” Studies reported approximately twice as many terms that users didn’t understand than terms users did understand, with some terms appearing in both categories. Analysis of the findings suggests a majority of Kupersmith’s guidelines remain applicable to today’s online environment, with some adjustments related to technology advances. We propose an additional guideline that acknowledges the role non-library websites play in guiding how users interact with library terminology. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The purpose of this study is to explore the realization of users ‘ information rights (IRs) in the smart service of university libraries. Based on the LibQUAL model, principal component analysis (PCA) is used to measure the quality of smart services in university libraries. The contribution weight of various services to the realization of IRs is calculated by analytic hierarchy process (AHP), then the degree of IR realization is obtained. Users have the highest right to express information, the lowest right to equality, and other rights tend to be moderate. Suggestions to improve the realization of IRs are put forward at the end. Force feedback is currently missing in most surgical robot systems, even though it would be essential for many surgical tasks, such as palpating tissue. In this study, we used a previously developed robotic endoscope based on series elastic actuation and tested the feasibility of using it for force feedback with a pilot study. The participants had a lower test time (−27%) and lower applied forces (−23%) with force feedback enabled. While further studies are needed for validation in realistic surgical scenarios, these results suggest improved safety and efficiency in telemanipulated surgeries. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Purpose: The purpose of this survey research was to investigate the use of virtual social networks by librarians and users of public libraries located in Iran. Method: The current research is applied in terms of its purpose and descriptive-analytical in terms of its type and methodology. The statistical population of this research are librarians and users of social networks (Instagram and Bale platforms) used in public libraries. According to the statistics of the managers of the Instagram page and Bale page, 80% of the users of these pages are librarians of public libraries across the country, and 20% of them are regular or usual users. Therefore, out of 5000 people following these pages in June 2022, nearly 4000 people were librarians and the rest were normal users. Based on Morgan's table, the number of research samples was estimated to be 357, which were selected according to the population of each group. According to the overall response rate, which was about 80.15%, finally 204 samples from the librarian community and 81 samples from the user community were selected using convenience sampling method. Findings: The findings of the research showed that there is a significantly positive relationship between the information format (how to display information) and the level of interaction of users and librarians (liking, commenting, etc.). In terms of the level of interaction of librarians and users with social network pages, it was found that librarians have more communication and interaction with the studied platforms than users due to the employment relationship and the need to produce content on these pages as part of librarians assigned tasks and duties. Also, according to librarians, the use of relevant information available on social media pages is effective in their organizational performance. Also, considering that foreign platforms such as Instagram sometimes face some legal restrictions in the country, it is suggested that domestic platforms increase the tendency of users by upgrading their services from a technical point of view in order to use them. Based on this, the most important result of the current research is that public libraries started to operate in social networks and this action is currently at the level of an organizational task and they still could not attract users and interact properly with them in these social networks. Therefore, it is necessary for Iran's public libraries to take action and plan for more interaction with users in these networks. Originality/Value: The most important result of the current research is that public libraries started to operate in social networks and this action is currently at the level of an organizational task and they still could not attract users and interact properly with them in these social networks. Therefore, it is necessary for Iran's public libraries to take action and plan for more interaction with users active in these networks. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Rehabilitating heritage buildings is a common practice in developed countries. In contrast, developing countries experiencing conflict lack the financial support and qualified experts to restore heritage buildings. This article focuses on the restoration of the al-Khader building in the Gaza Strip, part of a UNESCO project aimed at preserving historical buildings. This study aims to explore the challenges and impacts of the adaptive reuse of the al-Khader building as a children's library for the local community and to explore the impact of this project on sustainable development and its importance locally, as well as the role of this building restoration and rehabilitation through Quintuple Helix dimensions. Qualitative methodology was used, including field observation and interviews, to present the project stages during restoration in 2016. The interviews were conducted with library users, employees, and visitors to evaluate their experience in 2019. The research revealed that the restoration process faced several challenges, including a lack of experience and professional workers in conservation work. Despite challenges, the building's transformation positively affected heritage preservation and the local community, aligning with 11 Sustainable Development Goals—directly with 7 goals (SDGs 4, 7, 8, 11, 12, 16, and 17) and indirectly with 4 goals (SDGs 1, 5, 9, and 13). The findings emphasise the role of the library's rehabilitation in contributing to the success of the Quintuple Helix in economic and civil society systems and the need to enhance the consideration of government, education, and environmental systems. Finally, this project, which external donors funded, increased awareness among local people of the importance of heritage buildings. Unfortunately, due to the ongoing conflict in Gaza, the current status of the building is unknown. This study, therefore, serves as necessary documentation of the building as it was in 2023 and prior. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Strawberry aroma, crucial for determining quality, involves complex volatile compounds which are challenging to identify. This study explores strawberry aroma analysis using Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS) and the Automated Mass Spectral Deconvolution and Identification System (AMDIS). Central to our research is the creation of a bespoke strawberry Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) user library using AMDIS, specifically for analyzing strawberry aromas. The library contains VOCs from 61 strawberry cultivars, integrating information on 104 VOCs, including mass spectra, retention index, chemical class, CAS number, formula, odor threshold, and odor description. This custom library significantly outperformed a commercial library by reducing potential false hits by 200, decreasing the size of report files by over 96%, and, most importantly, shortening AMDIS analysis processing time from 31 s to 9 s, representing an approximate 71% reduction. Further, the study demonstrates the library's practical application by contrasting the aroma profiles of strawberries harvested in winter and spring. This comparison revealed significant VOC variations depending on seasonal temperature changes, offering insights into environmental influences on strawberry aroma. In conclusion, this research marks a significant advance in strawberry aroma quality analysis. The strawberry VOC library developed in this study is expected to greatly aid targeted metabolomics and flavor research in strawberry breeding. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper analyzes the library management systems of Government College Libraries of Karnataka to identify how well they perform and to what extent undergraduate students are satisfied with the systems in place. The descriptive questionnaire was filled by 500 respondents using Google Forms. Based on the statistics, the books and services received in the library seem to be good generally, especially regarding staff, location, and reading hall. More than 85 percent of the library users used the collection in reference for studying and writing purposes. Most are contented, but improvement opportunities exist with regard to location, operating hours, and other aspects of the library. To make the library an irreplaceable academic resource, the research emphasizes the requirement of reacting to client grievances; it concludes by advising the administration of the college and the library authorities to focus more on filling up the gaps in service delivery. The need to be environmentally friendly has spread too many areas, including how university libraries handle their resources. This study looks into how sustainable methods can be used in academic libraries, with a focus on making the best use of resources, saving energy, and reducing waste. Using a mix of quantitative and qualitative methods, the study combines the results of energy tests with the insights gained from conversations with library staff and managers. The results show that smart actions like digitization, lighting that uses less energy, and green building standards have made libraries much better for the environment. Digitization not only saves space and cuts down on paper use, but it also makes materials easier to find. Using motion monitors and LED lights has helped save a lot of energy, and green building standards have encouraged environmentally friendly building designs and methods of operation. The study also shows how important it is for stakeholders to be involved in creating a mind-set of sustainability in academia. Regular training programs and efforts have been very helpful in getting library users and staff to act in environmentally friendly ways. Adding sustainable buying policies also makes sure that resources are gathered in a good way, which helps reach bigger environmental goals. Budget problems, reluctance to change, and the need for constant tracking and review are some of the problems that come up when trying to put these sustainable practices into action. But the long-term perks, like lower costs, a better image, and following the rules, show how important sustainability is in managing university libraries. There is more and more information about sustainability practices in academic schools, and this study adds to that information. It also gives other libraries a way to start doing similar things. By putting sustainability first, university libraries can do a lot to help people care for the earth and make the future more sustainable. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This study aims to examine the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on nursing college libraries in the Indian state of Maharashtra. In all, 130 nursing colleges can be found in the Maharashtra state. We used Google Forms, email, and WhatsApp to reach out to college libraries and get their feedback. We received 110 responses in all, but we only looked at 110 of them. The results show that the COVID-19 affected the materials that university libraries had on hand. Sixteen point three percent of libraries are still closed. Paper document sales fell, whereas electronic document sales rose. The reason behind this was that the ratio of library-to-library material lending and delivery fell below 50%. Additionally, electronic resource consumption increased while physical resource utilisation declined. Quite a bit of reading material was available throughout the time the pandemic was happening. Respondents to the survey insisted that the library uses hand sanitizer, takes temperature readings, and follows social distance standards. Library employees spent their leisure time engaging in a wide range of professional development opportunities. Google Meet, Zoom, and WebEx were the three platforms used to deliver library services. This report will be useful in a lot of ways for figuring out how COVID-19 affected nursing schools in Maharashtra. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Purpose: The lack of requisite library resources has an enormous effect on academic life in most universities. While previous studies have suggested that the lack of resources such as textbooks affects academic success, this study seeks to provide empirical evidence on the chain effect of the lack of recommended textbooks in universities. Design/methodology/approach: The study uses a quantitative dataset from 636 students from five public universities in Ghana collected using well‐structured questionnaires. The study adopts exploratory factor analysis, confirmatory factor analysis, and partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS‐SEM) to analyze the measurement and structural models. Findings: The study concludes that limited library resources (such as recommended textbooks) frustrate library users and eventually birth antisocial behaviors such as stealing, hiding, and eroding books (or pages). Originality/value: This study highlights the significance of providing adequate library resources. It also guides library managers, policymakers, and scholars to manage library resources effectively. MATERIALS texture ,STRUCTURAL stability ,LIBRARY materials ,LIBRARY users ,COMPUTER software development - Abstract
Today, the use of 3D visualization technologies is one of the key directions in the field of information technologies. The 3D direction has become extremely popular in many fields, such as architecture, interior design, game industry, medicine, automotive and other fields. This method opens up new opportunities for perception and interpretation of information, adding it to a three-dimensional virtual space. The topic of the research work is the creation of a software module (addon) for the Blender3D program, which will provide the user with a library of ready-made materials, divided by categories. This addon has similar functionality to Substance Painter and Quixel Mixer, the main functions of which are to create and adjust materials and textures for imported ready-made 3D models. The addon has its own name "QuickShader" and will provide the user with 8 shaders and 35 PBR materials. Throughout the development of the project, the Waterfall life cycle model was used, stability and a clear structure were put first, which helped to efficiently work through each step of creating an addon for the Blender program. In the conclusion to the scientific work, it can also be noted that the development of a software addon for Blender3D, which includes a library of shader operators and PBR materials, will greatly facilitate the work of users when assigning textures to objects on the scene. A library of shader operators makes it easy to implement and customize shaders for light, glass, and some metals, giving you more control over the visual aspect of the scene. PBR materials provide realism due to the accurate representation of physical properties using Physically Based Rendering technologies. This addon gives users the ability to interact more effectively with procedural materials, providing a quick means to create realistic renders. This module automates the creation of materials by providing a list of prepared shaders and textures that can be applied to scene objects. The user will be provided with a set of ready-made shaders (glass, light material, metals) and PBR materials (wood, fabric, metals, and others), which can be applied with one button on the module panel. This study explores the public library service evaluation domain through user-generated content on Google Maps, highlighting digital feedback's significant yet underexplored potential in understanding public library patronage across Taiwan's six major cities. Utilizing a mixed-methods research design, this study integrates Google Maps review content analysis with social network analysis to delineate public perceptions and identify areas for service enhancement in public libraries. It innovatively leverages personal experiences extracted from over 60,000 Google Maps reviews to evaluate public library services in cities such as Taipei, New Taipei, Taoyuan, Taichung, Tainan, and Kaohsiung. The research taps into the National Library of Taiwan's National Library Statistics System to provide a robust analysis of library performance and user satisfaction, offering a novel perspective by emphasizing user-centric feedback from Google Maps as a primary data source. This approach provides quantitative data on library usage and geographic distribution and enriches our understanding of the qualitative experiences of library users. In analyzing the keywords from Google Maps reviews of public libraries, we categorize and interpret these under the three core LibQUAL+ dimensions—Affect of Service, Information Control, and Library as Place. The findings expose variances in perceived service quality among the cities, with Kaohsiung and Taichung receiving the highest accolades for service satisfaction. Simultaneously, the study identifies potential areas for improvement, particularly in cities with lower satisfaction ratings like Taipei. This personalized feedback illustrates the intimate relationship between public libraries and their communities, offering invaluable insights for policymakers and library management to enhance service delivery and user experience. Purpose: The purpose of this research is to determine the pattern of access to information resources and analysis of loan transactions among users of public libraries in Ilam province using the approach of association rules, clustering and classification in data mining. Method: In this research, by using data mining techniques, and algorithms of convergence, clustering, and classification rules on data related to the circulation desk of public libraries in Ilam province, the demographic information affecting the study behavior of members and the patterns of using information resources by this heterogeneous community were extracted. The data mining process used in the research (CRISP-DM) consists of six pahses, including business understanding, data understanding, data preparation, modeling (rules of convergence, artificial neural network, and decision tree), evaluation, and deployment, respectively. Findings: The findings related to different groups using information sources showed that in addition to studying their textbooks, students also studied subjects such as Iranian history and Islamic religion. In terms of gender, women with bachelorʼs degrees were interested in studying Persian language and literature, and fiction. The analysis of resource lending in terms of gender showed that 58 percent of active members of public libraries in Ilam province were women and 42 percent of them were men. This difference shows that women have a greater desire to use the information resources of public libraries in Ilam province. Furthermore, among those who were late in returning their borrowed books, 54 percent were women and 46 percent were men; In terms of returning books on time, women showed their responsibility with 52 percent and men with 48 percent. The results show that men with diplomas were interested in issues related to Islam and this group felt more responsibility for returning their books. In terms of gender and its effect on the studied subjects, undergraduate women, who had free jobs, showed interest in the classes of Persian literature and fiction and did not delay in returning their books. The analysis of the behavior model of the patrons in terms of book return revealed that the men with diploma who had free jobs did not delay in returning loaned books, and the women with diploma and bachelorʼs degrees who had free jobs did not delay in returning loaned books. Moreover, students with undergraduate degrees delayed in returning loaned books. A neural network model was developed to predict the delay in the return of books based on characteristics such as gender and educational level, and the accuracy rate of the model during the learning process with the best prediction accuracy was equal to 69.18%. This shows that it is possible to learn and predict the output by receiving new entries in the database of public libraries of Ilam province. Originality/value: The deployment of the proposed neural network model on the database of public libraries of Ilam province for predicting the delay in the return of books based on different characteristics, shows that it is possible to learn and predict the output by receiving new entries in the database of these libraries. Moreover, using the association rules technique, it is possible to design a book recommendation system in public libraries of Ilam province. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper aims to determine the impact of knowledge creation and sharing on use by librarians in federal universities in Nigeria. The study adopted the survey method of the correlation type, where 518 librarians were surveyed through a close-ended questionnaire, descriptive statistics, Pearson Product Moment Correlation coefficient and multiple regression were used to test the hypotheses. Findings indicate that significant relationships exist between knowledge creation and knowledge sharing (r=0.52), knowledge sharing and knowledge use (r=0.63) and knowledge creation and knowledge use (r=0.52), respectively. Knowledge created and shared by the librarians is used for better work performance. The paper adds value to the existing body of knowledge by proposing the need to understand the importance of knowledge creation and sharing as facilitators of knowledge use by librarians. This will, in turn, enhance service delivery to library patrons, thereby improving library patronage. This paper is limited to knowledge creation and sharing and its impact on knowledge use. Types of knowledge created and channels through which knowledge is shared are outside the focus of this article. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Libraries in the UK have evolved from traditional book-lending institutions into dynamic community hubs, This study aims to explore the potential of libraries to act as community hubs to promote mental and physical health and wellbeing of community-dwelling adults, drawing on insights from both library users and library staff in England. Design: A mixed-method, cross-sectional study using online survey and interviews with community-dwelling adults and library staff. Methods: We collected data using a 14-item electronic survey and interviews with library users and staff to gauge perceptions. Descriptive statistics and thematic analysis were used to identify key trends and emergent themes. Results: We included 605 respondents from the survey and interviewed 12 library users and staff. Libraries remain popular and are considered a 'safe place by members of the community, regardless of their frequency of service usage irrespective of whether they are frequent users of services. However, a lack of awareness among library users about community-facing services could act as a hurdle to improving community health and wellbeing. Targeted engagement with residents is needed to increase awareness of libraries' services, including community interventions to help tackle loneliness and inequalities in digital and health literacy. Library staff often did not feel involved in important decision-making. Various barriers, drivers and practical recommendations were identified to leverage libraries as hubs to promote community health and wellbeing. Conclusion: Libraries already offer a variety of resources that directly or indirectly support the health and wellbeing of community-dwelling adults and young people. However, public awareness of these services is limited. As we navigate post-pandemic recovery, libraries can serve as platforms for community engagement, fostering resilience, mental health support and reducing social isolation. Recognising libraries' untapped potential can lead to healthier communities and improved wellbeing. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective. The aim of this research is to raise awareness of the need for continuous and systematic development of library information services and information-referral services in Croatian libraries, as well as professional development of librarians in this fi eld. Since the information and reference services represent one of the foundations of work in public libraries, the importance of introducing changes in its operation is emphasized, driven by constant changes in society. Methodology. The research utilized a survey method using an online questionnaire. The research was conducted from October 11th to 17th, 2022, and the sample included sixty respondents providing the information service work and information-referral services in four Croatian public libraries. Results. The attitudes of the professional staff regarding the methods of providing information-referral services, education and competencies required for performing these tasks, as well as the organization of the information service, indicate the current state of work in the information service in the surveyed Croatian public libraries. The obtained results primarily express the need for systematic and organized continuous professional development at the national level and familiarity with new trends in information work with library users, materials and sources....Limitations. The sample included only four Croatian public libraries to establish a methodological framework for more extensive research and is therefore of an exploratory nature...Practical implications. The research can be applied to a larger number of Croatian libraries and has practical application in modernizing the organization of information services and developing new business models in their work.....Originality. The originality of the study lies in the fact that recent research on the attitudes of librarians towards providing information-referral services and the functioning of the information service as a fundamental aspect of the operation of public libraries is very rare and occasional.. Objective. The goal of this paper is to gain a deeper insight into the phenomenon of providing assistance to students in the information seeking process from the perspective of students as library users who turn to librarians for help when performing tasks related to their coursework. Approach/Methodology. The paper presents the results of research conducted using the method of semi-structured interviews with twenty undergraduate and graduate students from fi ve Croatian universities. The focus is on the phenomenon of assistance in information seeking observed from a students' perspective, primarily using phenomenography as the research approach. Research also emphasises students' perspective on the importance of the information seeking process, their expectations of librarian assistance and diffi culties they encounter during the process. Authors use the results to create a context important for understanding the phenomenon. Results. The research results show that students recognize the importance of the information seeking process and believe that it helps them acquire new knowledge and skills. They expect a wide range of assistance from librarians - from help related to sources (referring to sources and relevant works) to help related to the information seeking process itself (teaching and advising). Students experience the help of librarians as: (1) support in seeking, (2) discovery of (useful) works, (3) "instant" help in seeking and (4) facilitation of seeking. The paper, after reviewing theoretical foundations, presents the obtained categories of student perceptions and experiences. Practical implications. Presented results can help librarians to understand and provide assistance to students in the information seeking process, as well as in planning the development of information services in university and other higher education libraries.....Originality/Value. This research provides insight into students' perceptions and expectations of librarian assistance in the information seeking process and how they experience such assistance, which has not yet been conducted in the context of Croatian higher education and university libraries. The categories obtained from this research open up space for further study of students' perspectives on the phenomenon of librarian assistance in the context of the information seeking process and, more generally, on services providing assistance to students in the information seeking process as part of the academic educational process. A high volume of information can be provided to users regarding library services by branding Iranian medical libraries and information centers, and the position of libraries can be significantly improved. There is a minimal number of studies in this field in Iran. This study mainly aims to identify key branding components and create differentiation in the context of Iranian medical libraries and information centers (IMLICs). This study was conducted in two steps: (i) the literature on branding in libraries and information centers in reliable databases such as Scopus, Science Direct, Emerald, and Google Scholar was first reviewed, and finally, 33 studies were identified. Four components, such as librarians, services, building, and equipment, as well as technology, were found as important factors in the branding of public and academic libraries. (ii) A semi-structured interview was conducted with 14 managers and heads of libraries of Iranian medical sciences universities. The results showed the most important branding components in ILMIC as librarians, services, buildings and equipment, and technology. According to the results librarians' performance and personality characteristics, dynamization of specialized and general services, paying attention to the architecture of the library building and the installation and use of the equipment, and finally, the intelligent use of technologies and a strategic look at these components will lead to the formation of a positive mental image of Iranian medical libraries in the public mind, increase awareness of their services, and as a result, users' trust, loyalty, and satisfaction. Librarians play an important role in raising the users' awareness, trust, and loyalty toward library services and their branding. Hiring librarians with positive internal and external characteristics can have a positive image of libraries in the users' minds. Providing high-quality services required by users is essential in differentiating and branding libraries and building users' trust and loyalty. Providing virtual services in libraries is essential in promoting branding goals. A unique look at the libraries' architecture helps to create a positive image of libraries and information centers. Well-designing the interior and exterior of library facilities will create a positive mental image among users. Applying the technological equipment alongside the expert staff creates a brand and raises the users' awareness, trust, and loyalty. Empowering librarians in using emerging technologies is an obligation in this era. IMLICs have branding capabilities in the four main components of the library regarding librarians, services, building and equipment, and technology. Development of human resources, services, building and equipment, and technology should be planned so that its output is users' awareness about the library brand and the creation of a positive mental image towards the library function. It keeps the users' trust and loyalty towards the library and finally makes users the ambassadors and missionaries to promote the library via word-of-mouth marketing following their satisfaction. Social capital is an important asset for the development of communities, including communities linked to specific types of libraries. Despite numerous studies, no models dedicated to measuring this specific area have been developed yet. The paper proposes a model predicting the level of social capital among library workers with the use of machine learning methods. Its purpose is to identify the attributes that determine the level of social capital in a given community in order to enable the development of key areas. The model may be adapted for use in other groups, e.g. among library users or library non-users, in order to analyse social capital in the entire local community. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The purpose of this research is to assess the adoption and use of digital literacy in Tanzanian tertiary institution libraries, focusing on the current state of digital literacy acceptance, the practical implementation, and the obstacles associated with embracing and implementing digital literacy in library settings. The study employed a mixed-method approach, simultaneously using qualitative and quantitative methods. Thus, the primary data were collected through interviews with key informants, including librarians and ICT experts. The quantitative data were gathered through a semi-structured questionnaire. Subsequently, thematic analysis and statistical techniques were employed to analyze the collected data. The findings discovered that a majority had embraced and implemented digital literacy, though numerous challenges were reported. These challenges ranged from technophobia, lack of guidance for digital literacy programs, inadequate power supply, and limitations of internet connectivity. Improving digital literacy in libraries contributes to comprehensive educational development and enhanced access to digital resources to fill knowledge gaps and foster comprehensive social learning.
