Objective: The aim of this study is to evaluate the effect of teeth bleaching on oral health and quality of life (OHIP-14) in adults who have undergone office bleaching treatment.Material and Methods: One hundred patients who applied to our clinic for bleaching treatment between 2016-2021 and underwent bleaching treatment with Opalescence Boost 40% PF were included in the study. Pre-treatment color determination is routinely done for each patient in the clinic. They were divided into four different groups as follow-up patients in 3rd month for Group 1, 6th month for Group 2, 1st year for Group 3, and 2nd year follow-up patients for Group 4 (n=25). Shade guide unit (ΔSGU) values were calculated for the patients using the Vita Classic color scale. In addition, the OHIP-14 questionnaire was applied to each patient to evaluate the effect of bleaching on oral health and quality of life. Wilcoxon and Kruskal-Wallis tests were performed at P.05). In terms of color change, no significant difference compared to baseline levels with the measurements made at the 3rd, 6th months, and 1st and 2nd years (P.>05, =0.81).Conclusion: After the bleaching treatment, the color remained stable for two years. However, a positive psychosocial effect and improved self-perception occurred in the patients.Key Words: Bleaching treatment, OHIP-14, quality of life

To obtain a more appealing wood coating with lighter color, bleaching treatment was employed. Bleached and unbleached bio-polyurethane (PU) coating was prepared using liquefied bamboo and was applied to rubberwood. The coated wood surface was examined for adhesion, scratch, abrasion, impact, and resistance to common household chemicals. The results revealed that the bleaching of liquefied bamboo exerted mixed effects on the finishing properties of the bio-PU coating. Specifically, the surface coated with unbleached bio-PU coating exhibited noticeably higher levels of scratch and impact resistance compared to the surface coated with bleached bio-PU coating. However, both the adhesion and abrasion properties were found to be similar in both cases. Both bleached and unbleached bio-PU coating exhibited similar resistance to various household chemicals, with exception of acetic acid. This research demonstrated a method for producing semi-transparent bio-PU from bamboo biomass for use in wood coating. Bleaching treatment is feasible to produce light-colored coating without significantly affecting the finishing properties of the bio-PU coating.

The results of this study can serve as a reference in understanding the strength performance of natural fiber geotextile, specifically coir geotextile, as an alternative material for slope stabilization. Natural fiber geosynthetics used for geotechnical applications have attracted attention because of their environmental and economic benefits. Coir fibers made into nonwoven geotextiles are utilized in this study as an alternative material for slope stabilization. One drawback of coir fiber geotextiles is their low tensile strength and limited life span due to their susceptibility to environmental factors. This study was conducted to evaluate the effect of mercerization and bleaching treatment on the strength performance of nonwoven coir geotextiles after exposure to conditions simulating biological and chemical degradation. Microscopic images of treated coir geotextiles show the removal of surface impurities that altered the physical components in the fiber. The effect of various washing processes carried out under industrial conditions on the bagging properties of denim fabrics has been studiedin order to understand why residual bagging height behavior remains after garment uses due to internal stress, shrinkage, and excessive extensions. Three different washes have been used for denim samples, already dyed with vat indigo. To evaluate the washing treatment contributions to the bagging behaviors of all studied samples, the residual bagging height characteristic is investigated. It is studied before and after each washing treatment (desizing, enzyme washing, and bleaching). The results show that the residual bagging height increases after all types of washing treatments except for the bleaching ones. Nevertheless, the washed elastomeric denim fabrics (within elastane filament percentages) present significant recovery rates of bagged fabrics after all applied washes. By comparing the results obtained in this study, it may be concluded that the applied enzymatic washing process affects more the bagging behavior of denim fabrics than those of the desizing and bleaching treatments. Recipes for bleaching of coconut fiber at both ambient and elevated temperature were investigated using appropriate statistical design of experiments using hydrogen peroxide with essential bleaching assisting auxiliaries. The statistical tool is also being utilized to suggest optimized recipe for the treatments considering mainly whiteness index, yellowness index, and tenacity. Statistical computation affirmed need of higher amount of bleaching chemicals in elevated temperature than ambient bleaching. Both the bleaching treatments were resulting in small mass loss essentially of noncellulosic nature including lignin and thus result in improved mechanical properties. The change in whiteness and yellowness index of the bleached fiber under the shed storage condition for duration of 2 years was found to be negligible.

In this work, biodegradable composites from poly(lactic acid) (PLA) and oil palm empty fruit bunch (OPEFB) fiber were prepared by melt blending method. Prior to mixing, the fiber was modified through bleaching treatment using hydrogen peroxide. Bleached fiber composite showed an improvement in mechanical properties as compared to untreated fiber composite due to the enhanced fiber/matrix interfacial adhesion. Interestingly, fiber bleaching treatment also improved the physical appearance of the composite. The study was extended by blending the composites with commercially available masterbatch colorant. Food packaging has seen a growth in the use of materials derived from renewable resources such as poly(lactic acid) (PLA). However, the initial costs to produce bioplastics are typically high. Tropical fruit waste as naturally sourced fibres, such as jackfruit skin, can be used as a cost-reducing filler for PLA. The main objective in this study is to fabricate a low-cost natural fibre-reinforced polymer that potentially applies in packaging with the aid of bleaching treatment. The treatment shows a rougher surface fibre in Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) micrographs and it is expected to have better mechanical locking with the matrix, and this is found similar with a Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) analysis. Unfortunately, fibre insertion does find low tensile performances, yet bleached-fibre composites improved its performance significantly. A similar situation was found in the thermal characterization where a low-thermal stability natural fibre composite has lower thermal behaviour and this increased with bleaching treatment. Besides, bleached-fibre composites have a longer service period. Besides, a 15 wt% thymol insertion inhibits the growth of Gram-positive bacteria in the composites and the non-treated fibre composite has better thymol effects. The 30 wt% of the bleached-fibre insertion composite has a high potential to reduce the cost of bioplastic products with minimum alterations of overall performances. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Les auteurs étudient les caractères chimiques et physiques de trois charbons végétaux ainsi que quelques paramètres pouvant influer sur leur efficacité (teneur en colloïdes, température de traitement, etc.). Ils montrent que le traitement de décoloration d'un moût de raisins Pinot noir ne modifie que très légèrement les composés aromatiques du vin obtenu. Ils observent que le traitement par le charbon des vins blancs madérisés entraîne une modification de leurs teneurs en composés aromatiques qui dépend, en premier lieu, du type de charbon utilisé. L'instabilité à l'oxydation des vins traités semble liée à la structure chimique du charbon. +++ Chemical and physical properties of three vegetal charcoals and their efficiency according to some parameters (colloid level, temperature of treatment) were studied. It was shown that bleaching treatment of a red Pinot noir must changed very slightly the aromatic compounds of the corresponding wine. For oxidised white wines, changes in the level of aromatic compounds occured, firstly according to the tye of charcoal used. The instability of treated wines toward oxidation appared in connection with the chemical structure of the charcoal.
