6. Genome-Wide Identification and Functional Validation of Actin Depolymerizing Factor (ADF) Gene Family in Gossypium hirsutum L.

Abstract

The Actin Depolymerizing Factor (ADF) protein, highly conserved among eukaryotes, is essential for plant growth, development, and stress responses. Cotton, a vital economic crop with applications spanning oilseed, textiles, and military sectors, has seen a limited exploration of its ADF gene family. This research has identified 118 unique ADF sequences across four principal cotton species: Gossypium hirsutum L., Gossypium barbadense Linn, Gossypium raimondii, and Asiatic cotton. The study found that the structural domains and physicochemical properties of these proteins are largely uniform across species. The ADF genes were classified into four subfamilies with a notable expansion in groups III and IV due to tandem and chromosomal duplication events. A thorough analysis revealed a high degree of conservation in gene structure, including exon counts and the lengths of introns and exons, with the majority of genes containing three exons, aligning with the characteristics of the ADF family. RNA-seq analysis uncovered a spectrum of responses by GhADFs to various abiotic stresses with GhADF19 showing the most significant reaction. Virus-induced gene silencing (VIGS) experiments were conducted to assess the role of GhADF19 in plant growth under abiotic stress. The results demonstrated that plants with silenced GhADF19 exhibited significantly slower growth rates and lower dry weights when subjected to cold, salt, and drought stress compared to the control group. This marked reduction in growth and dry weight under stress conditions highlights the potential importance of GhADF19 in stress tolerance mechanisms. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

In order to explore the ways to get rich in villages, we had been to the villages around Beijing. On the basis of the field investigation of four villages around Beijing: Huoshaoying Village, Baojiapu Village, Xiaoyuzi Village and Niuzhan Village, the way to get rich in rural areas is discussed in depth based on their rich history, achievements and experience, after investigating four villages that develop homestay tourism, art, agricultural products and food processing industries respectively, we have explored the ways to get rich in villages more comprehensively from different angles. The result of the investigation shows that different villages have different situations, and different villages have different optimal development paths, which requires someone to explore and discover.Rural revitalization must be adapted to local conditions and cannot blindly follow the trend.

Abstract

Under the background of the global COVID-19 pandemic, the global COVID-19 epidemic spread was modeled and analyzed, and its future trend was predicted. The dataset covers 163 countries and almost 2 full months from 2020, which is enough data to get some clues about the pandemic. The epidemic situation was predicted by the fusion of SIR model and ML regression, and the results showed that the model analysis was basically consistent with the real performance of the epidemic development. Finally, the development stage and trend of the epidemic situation are evaluated to provide a basis for the government to formulate relevant epidemic prevention policies.

34. Antibiotics in the agricultural soils from the Yangtze River Delta, China

Abstract

This study focused on the occurrence and spatial distribution of 13 common antibiotics in the agricultural soils of the Yangtze River Delta (YRD), China. Antibiotics were detected in all the 241 soil samples (i.e., 100% detection rate) with the total concentrations ranging from 4.55 to 2,010 ng/g dry weight. The concentrations of three antibiotic classes decreased in the order: quinolones (mean 48.8 ng/g) > tetracyclines (mean 34.9 ng/g) > sulfonamides (mean 2.35 ng/g). Ciprofloxacin was the prevalent compound with a mean concentration of 27.7 ng/g, followed by oxytetracycline (mean of 18.9 ng/g). A distinct spatial distribution was observed, where high concentrations of antibiotics were detected in the sites adjacent to the livestock and poultry farms. The potential sources of antibiotics in the agricultural soils were the application of manure and wastewater irrigation in this region. Risk assessment for single antibiotic compound indicated that tetracyclines and quinolones could pose a potential risk, in which doxycycline and ciprofloxacin had the most severe ecological effect in the agricultural soils. Antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs), such as tetA, sulI, and qnrS, were detected in 15 analyzed soil samples, and sulI showed significant correlations with quinolones, tetracyclines, copper, and zinc. Further studies on the distribution of other ARGs in agricultural soil at a region-scale are needed for the risk management of extensively used antibiotics and major ARGs. © 2017 Elsevier Ltd
