1. Effect of moxibustion based on Lai's Tongyuan needling technique on retention of urine after stroke (赖氏通元法艾灸治疗中风后癃闭效果观察)

Abstract

Objective To investigate the effect of moxibustion based on Lai's Tongyuan needling technique on retention of urine after stroke. Methods Totally 65 stroke patients with retention of urine were randomly divided into the control group (n=32) and observation group (n=33). All patients received comprehensive treatment and nursing care, and those in the observation group were given moxibustion based on Lai's Tongyuan needling technique. The frequency of urination and residual urine volume were recorded, and the effect of intervention was compared between two groups. Results Better outcomes of frequency of urination and residual urine volume were found in the observation group than those in the control group after intervention(P＜0. 05), The overall effective rate was 96. 67%(32/33) in the observation group and 78. 13%(25/32) in the control group, with a significant difference (P＜0. 05). Conclusion The moxibustion based on Lai's Tongyuan needling technique is potentially effective to improve the bladder function of patients with retention of urine after stroke. (目的 观察赖氏通元法艾灸对中风后并发癃闭患者的护理效果。方法 选择中风后并发癃闭的患者65例, 按随机数字表法分为对照组32例和试验组33例, 对照组采用常规治疗与护理, 试验组在对照组基础上采用赖氏通元法艾灸。记录2组患者排尿次数和残余尿量, 评价干预效果。结果 试验组排尿次数、膀胱残余尿量改善情况优于对照组, 差异有统计学意义(P＜0. 01)。试验组总有效率96. 67%(32/33), 高于对照组的78. 13%(25/32), 差异有统计学意义(P＜0. 05)。结论 赖氏通元法艾灸可改善中风后癃闭患者的膀胱功能。)

Abstract

We studied associations of persistent respiratory morbidity (PRM) at 6 and 12 months after acute respiratory failure (ARF) in previously healthy children with single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) of surfactant protein (SP) genes. Of the 250 enrolled subjects, 155 and 127 were followed at 6 and 12 months after an ARF episode, respectively. Logistic regression analysis and SNP–SNP interaction models were used. We found that 1) in the multivariate analysis, an increased risk at 6 and 12 months was associated with rs1124_A and rs4715_A of SFTPC, respectively; 2) in a single SNP model, increased and decreased risks of PRM at both timepoints were associated with rs1124 of SFTPC and rs721917 of SFTPD, respectively; an increased risk at 6 months was associated with rs1130866 of SFTPB and rs4715 of SFTPC, and increased and decreased risks at 12 months were associated with rs17886395 of SFTPA2 and rs2243639 of SFTPD, respectively; 3) in a two-SNP model, PRM susceptibility at both timepoints was associated with a number of intergenic interactions between SNPs of the studied SP genes. An increased risk at 12 months was associated with one intragenic (rs1965708 and rs113645 of SFTPA2) interaction; 4) in a three-SNP model, decreased and increased risks at 6 and 12 months, respectively, were associated with an interaction among rs1130866 of SFTPB, rs721917 of SFTPD, and rs1059046 of SFTPA2. A decreased risk at 6 months was associated with an interaction among the same SNPs of SFTPB and SFTPD and the rs1136450 of SFTPA1. The findings revealed that SNPs of all SFTPs appear to play a role in long-term outcomes of ARF survivors and may serve as markers for disease susceptibility.

Abstract

Summary: Despite its critical importance to our understanding of plant growth and adaptation, the question of how environment‐induced plastic response is affected genetically remains elusive. Previous studies have shown that the reaction norm of an organism across environmental index obeys the allometrical scaling law of part‐whole relationships. The implementation of this phenomenon into functional mapping can characterize how quantitative trait loci (QTLs) modulate the phenotypic plasticity of complex traits to heterogeneous environments. Here, we assemble functional mapping and allometry theory through Lokta−Volterra ordinary differential equations (LVODE) into an R‐based computing platform, np2QTL, aimed to map and visualize phenotypic plasticity QTLs. Based on LVODE parameters, np2QTL constructs a bidirectional, signed and weighted network of QTL−QTL epistasis, whose emergent properties reflect the ecological mechanisms for genotype−environment interactions over any range of environmental change. The utility of np2QTL was validated by comprehending the genetic architecture of phenotypic plasticity via the reanalysis of published plant height data involving 3502 recombinant inbred lines of maize planted in multiple discrete environments. np2QTL also provides a tool for constructing a predictive model of phenotypic responses in extreme environments relative to the median environment. Significance Statement: Understanding the genetic architecture of phenotypic plasticity is important for evolutionary studies and plant breeding. Abstract

How trees allocate photosynthetic products to primary height growth and secondary radial growth reflects their capacity to best use environmental resources. Despite substantial efforts to explore tree height–diameter relationship empirically and through theoretical modeling, our understanding of the biological mechanisms that govern this phenomenon is still limited. By thinking of stem woody biomass production as an ecological system of apical and lateral growth components, we implement game theory to model and discern how these two components cooperate symbiotically with each other or compete for resources to determine the size of a tree stem. This resulting allometry game theory is further embedded within a genetic mapping and association paradigm, allowing the genetic loci mediating the carbon allocation of stemwood growth to be characterized and mapped throughout the genome. Allometry game theory was validated by analyzing a mapping data of stem height and diameter growth over perennial seasons in a poplar tree. Several key quantitative trait loci were found to interpret the process and pattern of stemwood growth through regulating the ecological interactions of stem apical and lateral growth. The application of allometry game theory enables the prediction of the situations in which the cooperation, competition or altruism is an optimal decision of a tree to fully use the environmental resources it owns.
