1. Nuclear structure of dripline nuclei elucidated through precision mass measurements of $^{23}$Si, $^{26}$P, $^{27,28}$S, and $^{31}$Ar

Abstract

Using the B$\rho$-defined isochronous mass spectrometry technique, we report the first determination of the $^{23}$Si, $^{26}$P, $^{27}$S, and $^{31}$Ar masses and improve the precision of the $^{28}$S mass by a factor of 11. Our measurements confirm that these isotopes are bound and fix the location of the proton dripline in P, S, and Ar. We find that the mirror energy differences of the mirror-nuclei pairs $^{26}$P-$^{26}$Na, $^{27}$P-$^{27}$Mg, $^{27}$S-$^{27}$Na, $^{28}$S-$^{28}$Mg, and $^{31}$Ar-$^{31}$Al deviate significantly from the values predicted assuming mirror symmetry. In addition, we observe similar anomalies in the excited states, but not in the ground states, of the mirror-nuclei pairs $^{22}$Al-$^{22}$F and $^{23}$Al-$^{23}$Ne. Using $ab~ initio$ VS-IMSRG and mean field calculations, we show that such a mirror-symmetry breaking phenomeon can be explained by the extended charge distributions of weakly-bound, proton-rich nuclei. When observed, this phenomenon serves as a unique signature that can be valuable for identifying proton-halo candidates.

Abstract

The Milky Way's Central Molecular Zone (CMZ) differs dramatically from our local solar neighbourhood, both in the extreme interstellar medium conditions it exhibits (e.g. high gas, stellar, and feedback density) and in the strong dynamics at play (e.g. due to shear and gas influx along the bar). Consequently, it is likely that there are large-scale physical structures within the CMZ that cannot form elsewhere in the Milky Way. In this paper, we present new results from the Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA) large programme ACES (ALMA CMZ Exploration Survey) and conduct a multi-wavelength and kinematic analysis to determine the origin of the M0.8$-$0.2 ring, a molecular cloud with a distinct ring-like morphology. We estimate the projected inner and outer radii of the M0.8$-$0.2 ring to be 79" and 154", respectively (3.1 pc and 6.1 pc at an assumed Galactic Centre distance of 8.2 kpc) and calculate a mean gas density $> 10^{4}$ cm$^{-3}$, a mass of $\sim$ $10^6$ M$_\odot$, and an expansion speed of $\sim$ 20 km s$^{-1}$, resulting in a high estimated kinetic energy ($> 10^{51}$ erg) and momentum ($> 10^7$ M$_\odot$ km s$^{-1}$). We discuss several possible causes for the existence and expansion of the structure, including stellar feedback and large-scale dynamics. We propose that the most likely cause of the M0.8$-$0.2 ring is a single high-energy hypernova explosion. To viably explain the observed morphology and kinematics, such an explosion would need to have taken place inside a dense, very massive molecular cloud, the remnants of which we now see as the M0.8$-$0.2 ring. 3. Emergence of High-Order Deformation in Rotating Transfermium Nuclei: A Microscopic Understanding

Abstract

The rotational properties of the transfermium nuclei are investigated in the full deformation space by implementing a shell-model-like approach in the cranking covariant density functional theory on a three-dimensional lattice, where the pairing correlations, deformations, and moments of inertia are treated in a microscopic and self-consistent way. The kinematic and dynamic moments of inertia of the rotational bands observed in the transfermium nuclei $^{252}$No, $^{254}$No, $^{254}$Rf, and $^{256}$Rf are well reproduced without any adjustable parameters using a well-determined universal density functional. It is found for the first time that the emergence of the octupole deformation should be responsible for the significantly different rotational behavior observed in $^{252}$No and $^{254}$No. The present results provide a microscopic solution to the long-standing puzzle on the rotational behavior in No isotopes, and highlight the risk of investigating only the hexacontetrapole ($\beta_{60}$) deformation effects in rotating transfermium nuclei without considering the octupole deformation.

4. Revisiting Energy Distribution and Formation Rate of CHIME Fast Radio Bursts

Abstract

Using a large sample of fast radio bursts (FRBs) from the first CHIME/FRB catalog, we apply the Lynden-Bell's c$^-$ method to study their energy function and formation rate evolutions with redshift. It is found with the non-parametric Kendell's $\tau$ statistics that the FRB energy strongly evolves with the cosmological redshift as $E(z)\propto(1 + z)^{5.23}$. After removing the redshift dependence, the local energy distribution can be described by a broken power-law form of $\Psi(E_{0})\propto E_{0}^{-0.38}$ for the low-energy segment and $\Psi(E_{0})\propto E_{0}^{-2.01}$ for the high-energy segment with a dividing line of $\sim2.1\times10^{40} \rm erg$. Interestingly, we find that the formation rate of CHIME FRBs also evolves with redshift as $\rho(z)\propto(1+z)^{-4.73\pm0.08}$. The local formation rate $\rho(0)$ of the CHIME FRBs is constrained to be about $ 1.25\times 10^4\rm{\,Gpc^{-3}yr^{-1}}$ that is comparable with some previous estimations. In addition, we notice the formation rate not only exceeds the star formation rate at the lower redshifts but also always declines with the increase of redshift, which does not match the star formation history at all. Consequently, we suggest that most FRBs could originate from the older stellar populations.

Abstract

The ground-state mass excess of the $T_{z}=-2$ drip-line nucleus $^{22}$Al is measured for the first time to be $18103(10)$ keV using the newly-developed B$\rho$-defined isochronous mass spectrometry method at the cooler storage ring in Lanzhou. The new mass excess value allowed us to determine the excitation energies of the two low-lying $1^+$ states in $^{22}$Al with significantly reduced uncertainties of 51 keV. Comparing to the analogue states in its mirror nucleus $^{22}$F, the mirror energy differences of the two $1^+$ states in the $^{22}$Al-$^{22}$F mirror pair are determined to be $-625(51)$ keV and $-330(51)$ keV, respectively. The excitation energies and the mirror energy differences are used to test the state-of-the-art \textit{ab initio} valence-space in-medium similarity renormalization group calculations with four sets of interactions derived from the chiral effective field theory. The mechanism leading to the large mirror energy differences is investigated and attributed to the occupation of the $\pi s_{1/2}$ orbital., Comment: 8 pages, 5 figures

6. Abnormal Bifurcation of the Double Binding Energy Differences and Proton-Neutron Pairing: Nuclei Close to $N=Z$ Line from Ni to Rb

Abstract

The recently observed abnormal bifurcation of the double binding energy differences $\delta V_{pn}$ between the odd-odd and even-even nuclei along the $N=Z$ line from Ni to Rb has challenged the nuclear theories. To solve this problem, a shell-model-like approach based on the relativistic density functional theory is established, by treating simultaneously the neutron-neutron, proton-neutron, and proton-proton pairing correlations both microscopically and self-consistently. Without any \textit{ad hoc} parameters, the calculated results well reproduce the observations, and the mechanism for this abnormal bifurcation is found to be due to the enhanced proton-neutron pairing correlations in the odd-odd $N=Z$ nuclei, compared with the even-even ones. The present results provide an excellent interpretation for the abnormal $\delta V_{pn}$ bifurcation, and provide a clear signal for the existence of the proton-neutron pairing correlations for nuclei close to the $N=Z$ line., Comment: 6 pages, 4 figures

Abstract

A total of 64 ATOMS sources at different evolutionary stages were selected to investigate the kinematics and dynamics of gas structures under feedback. We identified dense gas structures based on the integrated intensity map of H$^{13}$CO$^+$ J=1-0 emission, and then extracted the average spectra of all structures to investigate their velocity components and gas kinematics. For the scaling relations between velocity dispersion $\sigma$, effective radius $R$ and column density $N$ of all structures, $\sigma-N*R$ always has a stronger correlation compared to $\sigma-N$ and $\sigma-R$. There are significant correlations between velocity dispersion and column density, which may imply that the velocity dispersion originates from gravitational collapse, also revealed by the velocity gradients. The measured velocity gradients for dense gas structures in early-stage sources and late-stage sources are comparable, indicating gravitational collapse through all evolutionary stages. We quantitatively estimated the velocity dispersion generated by the outflows, inflows, ionized gas pressure and radiation pressure, and found that the ionized gas feedback is stronger than other feedback mechanisms. However, although feedback from HII regions is the strongest, it does not significantly affect the physical properties of the embedded dense gas structures. Combining with the conclusions in Zhou+2023 on cloud-clump scales, we suggest that although feedback from cloud to core scales will break up the original cloud complex, the substructures of the original complex can be reorganized into new gravitationally governed configurations around new gravitational centers. For the first time, we approach in this work the problem of the renormalization of the Gamow-Teller decay operator for nuclear shell-model calculations by way of many-body perturbation theory, starting from a nuclear Hamiltonian and electroweak currents derived consistently by way of the chiral perturbation theory. These are the inputs we need to construct microscopically the effective shell-model Hamiltonians and decay operators. The goal is to assess the role of both electroweak currents and many-body correlations as the origins of the well-known problem of the quenching of the axial coupling constant gA. 10. The role of three-nucleon potentials within the shell model: past and present

Abstract

We survey the impact of nuclear three-body forces on structure properties of nuclei within the shell model. It has long been acknowledged, since the seminal works of Zuker and coworkers, that three-body forces play a fundamental role in making the monopole component of shell-model Hamiltonians, derived from realistic nucleon-nucleon potentials, able to reproduce the observed evolution of the shell structure. In the vast majority of calculations, however, their effects have been taken into account by shell-model practitioners by introducing ad hoc modifications of the monopole matrix elements. During last twenty years, a new theoretical approach, framed within the chiral perturbation theory, has progressed in developing nuclear potentials, where two- and many-body components are naturally and consistently built in. This new class of nuclear forces allows to carry out nuclear structure studies that are improving our ability to understand nuclear phenomena in a microscopic approach. We provide in this work an update on the status of the nuclear shell model based on realistic Hamiltonians that are derived from two- and three-nucleon chiral potentials, focusing on the role of the three-body component to provide the observed shell evolution and closure properties, as well as the location of driplines. To this end, we present the results of shell-model calculations and their comparison with recent experimental measurements, which enlighten the relevance of the inclusion of three-nucleon forces to master our knowledge of the physics of atomic nuclei., Comment: Accepted for publication in Progress in Particle and Nuclear Physics

However, its underlying mechanisms remain elusive. In this study, we investigated the impact of high and low-frequency EA at Zusanli (ST36) on the gut microbiota and metabolite profile in the dextran sulfate sodium (DSS)-induced colitis mouse model.Methods: Colitis was established using DSS, and daily electroacupuncture at ST36 with varying frequencies was administered. Changes in body weight and fecal characteristics were monitored. Pro-inflammatory cytokines were detected, and the core molecule of intestinal barrier function were analyzed. The composition of intestinal flora was analyzed using 16S sRNA sequencing, while the changes of metabolites in colon tissue were detected by Ultra-performance liquid chromatography–tandem mass spectrometry (UPLC/MS/MS).Results: Treatment with both high and low frequencies of EA at ST36 significantly ameliorated the symptoms of colitis, while also exerting systemic and local anti-inflammatory effect by downregulating the proinflammatory cytokines, iNOS and MPO. EA at ST36 enhanced the intestinal barrier by upregulating the expression of MUC2 and ZO-1. Furthermore, high-frequency EA at ST36 remarkably restored the gut microbial composition and diversity, as well as modulated the gut microbial metabolism of phenylalanine.Conclusion: Our results suggest that EA treatment may alleviate colitis by reducing colon damage through gut microbiota-phenylalanine metabolism, which provides insight into EA’s underlying mechanisms in the treatment of colitis.Keywords: ulcerative colitis, electroacupuncture, gut microbiota, phenylalanine metabolism

The primary endpoint was the occurrence of symptomatic RP (Grade ≥ 2), as defined by the Common Terminology Criteria for Adverse Events version 5.0. Clinical and lung dosimetric parameters were analyzed to determine their associations with symptomatic RP. Dosimetric parameters included mean lung dose (MLD) and the percentage of lung volume receiving ≥ 10 Gy (V10), ≥ 20 Gy (V20), ≥ 30 Gy (V30), and ≥ 40 Gy (V40). Receiver operating characteristic curves were used to predict the risk of developing symptomatic RP to establish optimal threshold values for each dosimetric predictor.Results: Among the 118 patients included, the incidence of symptomatic RP was 25.4%. Tumor locations, intervals between immunotherapy and radiotherapy, and MLD, V10, V20, V30, and V40 were identified as independent risk factors for symptomatic RP. The area under the curve (AUC) values for MLD, V10, V20, V30, and V40 were 0.788 (95% confidence interval [CI] 0.704– 0.873), 0.789 (95% CI 0.705– 0.874), 0.791 (95% CI 0.706– 0.876), 0.784 (95% CI 0.697– 0.871), and 0.749 (95% CI 0.656– 0.842), respectively. The optimal threshold values for MLD, V10, V20, V30, and V40 were 9.7 Gy, 26.3%, 15.9%, 13.3%, and 8.6%, respectively. These thresholds are lower than current guideline recommendations, and maintaining dosimetric parameters below these values resulted in a cumulative symptomatic RP incidence of < 12%.Conclusion: The recommended dose thresholds for MLD, V10, V20, V30, and V40 are lower than the current guidelines, underscoring the importance of radiotherapy planning to minimize symptomatic RP occurrence in patients receiving ICI-TRT.Keywords: radiation therapy, immunotherapy, non-small-cell lung cancer, radiation pneumonitis, risk factors

Cold exposure has garnered acclaim for its potential to confer benefits and potentially alleviate diabetes. We posited that systemic cold temperature (CT, 4– 8°C) likely influences the organism’s blood components through ambient temperature, prompting our investigation into the effects of chronic cold exposure on type 2 diabetic (T2DM) mice and our initial exploration of how cold exposure mitigates the incidence of T2DM.Methods: The effects of CT (4– 8°C) or room temperature (RT, 22– 25°C) on T2DM mice were investigated. Mice blood and organ specimens were collected for fully automated biochemical testing, ELISA, HE staining, immunohistochemistry, and immunofluorescence. Glucose uptake was assessed using flow cytometry with 2-NBDG. Changes in potential signaling pathways such as protein kinase B (AKT), phosphorylated AKT (p-AKT), insulin receptor substrates 1 (IRS1), and phosphorylated IRS1 (p-IRS1) were evaluated by Western blot.Results: CT or CT mice plasma-derived extracellular vesicles (CT-EVs) remarkably reduced blood glucose levels and improved insulin sensitivity in T2DM mice. This treatment enhanced glucose metabolism, systemic insulin sensitivity, and insulin secretion function while promoting glycogen accumulation in the liver and muscle. Additionally, CT-EVs treatment protected against the streptozocin (STZ)-induced destruction of islets in T2DM mice by inhibiting β-cell apoptosis. CT-EVs also shielded islets from destruction and increased the expression of p-IRS1 and p-AKT in adipocytes and hepatocytes. In vitro experiments further confirmed its pro-insulin sensitivity effect.Conclusion: Our data indicate that cold exposure may have a potentially beneficial effect on the development of T2DM, mainly through the anti-diabetic effect of plasma-derived EVs released during cold stimulation. However, whether a growth mindset can attenuate the effect of low family socioeconomic status (SES) on depressive symptoms among adolescents remains unknown. Based on the Family Stress Model, the current study explores whether a growth mindset could moderate the associations between family SES, interparental conflict, and adolescent depressive symptoms.Methods: The participants were 1572 Chinese adolescents (Mage = 13.35 years, SD = 1.16, 51.84% female). They completed the family SES questionnaire, Children’s Perceptions of Interparental Conflict scale, Growth Mindset scale, and Center for Epidemiologic Studies Depression scale. We tested the moderation, mediation, and moderated mediation models using the SPSS macro program PROCESS.Results: A growth mindset moderated the association between family SES and depressive symptoms. Family SES was significantly related to depressive symptoms in adolescents with a lower growth mindset, but not in those with a higher growth mindset. After incorporating the mediating effect of interparental conflict, the growth mindset did not exert a significant moderating influence on the direct path; however, it significantly moderated the mediating effect of interparental conflict on depressive symptoms. Specifically, while a lower growth mindset in adolescents was associated with an increased risk of depressive symptoms due to interparental conflict, those with a higher growth mindset showed a less pronounced effect.Conclusion: A growth mindset attenuates the link between family SES and depressive symptoms among adolescents. Abstract

Nuclei in the vicinity of driplines have been receiving a lot of attention in nuclear structure studies. In the nuclei, the continuum coupling is crucial in reproducing weakly-bound and unbound phenomena. To calculate observables of the nuclei as open quantum systems, we have developed valence-space effective operators in the complex-energy Berggren basis using many-body perturbation theory. We focus on the Gamow-Teller $\beta$ decay in the {\it sd} shell. The two- plus three-nucleon force from the chiral effective field theory (EFT), named EM1.8/2.0, has been used. The Gamow shell model which takes the continuum coupling into account can properly reproduce experimental observations of weakly-bound and unbound states. The $\beta$-decay isospin asymmetry between the dripline nucleus $^{22}\rm Si$ and its mirror partner $^{22}\rm O$ is reproduced, in which the $s_{1/2}$ continuum plays a key role. Significant Thomas-Ehrman shift is seen through mirror energy differences between the mirror daughters $^{22}\rm Al$ and $^{22}\rm F$, in which the continuum effect plays an important role.

Abstract

The Super $\tau$-Charm facility (STCF) is an electron-positron collider proposed by the Chinese particle physics community. It is designed to operate in a center-of-mass energy range from 2 to 7 GeV with a peak luminosity of $0.5\times 10^{35}{\rm cm}^{-2}{\rm s}^{-1}$ or higher. The STCF will produce a data sample about a factor of 100 larger than that by the present $\tau$-Charm factory -- the BEPCII, providing a unique platform for exploring the asymmetry of matter-antimatter (charge-parity violation), in-depth studies of the internal structure of hadrons and the nature of non-perturbative strong interactions, as well as searching for exotic hadrons and physics beyond the Standard Model. The STCF project in China is under development with an extensive R\&D program. This document presents the physics opportunities at the STCF, describes conceptual designs of the STCF detector system, and discusses future plans for detector R\&D and physics case studies.

Abstract

Isospin-symmetry breaking is responsible for the energy difference of excited states in mirror nuclei. It also influences the coefficient of the isobaric multiplet mass equation. In the present work, we extensively investigate isospin-symmetry breaking in medium mass nuclei within ab initio frameworks. For this, we employ the ab initio valence-space in-medium similarity renormalization group approach, in which charge-symmetry and charge-independence breakings are included in the adopted nuclear force. The mirror energies of sd- and pf- shell nuclei are computed for that matter. The effects of single-particle states on weakly bound and unbound nuclear states, especially those of the s-wave, are discussed. Predictions are also made concerning proton drip-line nuclei bearing large mirror energy difference. Finally, the coefficient of the isobaric multiplet mass equation in T = 1/2 and T = 1 isospin multiplets for A = 18 to A = 76 is calculated.

However, the role of QTF in CD-associated fibrosis and its potential pharmacological mechanism remains unclear.Purpose: The objective of this study was to elucidate the potential mechanism of QTF in treating CD-associated fibrosis, employing a combination of bioinformatics approaches — encompassing network pharmacology and molecular docking — complemented by experimental validation.Methods: To investigate the material basis and potential protective mechanism of QTF, a network pharmacology analysis was conducted. The core components and targets of QTF underwent molecular docking analysis to corroborate the findings obtained from network pharmacology. In vitro, a colon fibrotic model was established by stimulating IEC-6 cells with 10 ng/mL of transforming growth factor(TGF-β 1). In vivo, an intestinal fibrosis model was induced in BALB/c mice by TNBS. The role of QTF in inhibiting the TGF-β 1/Smad signaling pathway was investigated through RT-qPCR, Western blotting, immunohistochemistry staining, and immunofluorescence staining.Results: Network pharmacology analysis revealed that QTF could exert its protective effect. Bioinformatics analysis suggested that Flavone and Isoflavone might be the key components of the study. Additionally, AKT1, IL-6, TNF, and VEGFA were identified as potential therapeutic targets. Furthermore, experimental validation and molecular docking were employed to corroborate the results obtained from network pharmacology. RT-qPCR, Immunofluorescence, and Western blotting results demonstrated that QTF significantly improved colon function and inhibited pathological intestinal fibrosis in vivo and in vitro.Conclusion: Through the application of network pharmacology, molecular docking, and experimental validation, QTF could be confirmed to inhibit the proliferation of intestinal fibroblasts associated with CD and reduce the expression of Collagen I and VEGFA. This effect is achieved through the attenuation of ECM accumulation, primarily via the inhibition of the TGF-β 1/Smad signaling pathway. After 6 months, the incidence of complications such as stenosis, hematoma, thrombus, aneurysm, and cannulation failure was compared between the groups. Nurse satisfaction with the electronic cannulation atlas system was also assessed through a questionnaire.Results: The observation group had lower incidence rates of arteriovenous fistula stenosis, thrombus, aneurysm, and failure rate of cannulation compared to the control group, with statistically significant differences (p< 0.05). The incidence rates of hematoa were similar in both groups, showing no significant difference (p> 0.05). After 3 months of management, the incidence of arteriovenous fistula complications in the observation group was significantly lower than in the control group (p< 0.05). Additionally, utilizing the electronic cannulation atlas system was found to increase nurses’ job satisfaction.Conclusion: The use of electronic cannulation atlas for the treatment of patients’ arteriovenous fistula could effectively reduce the incidence of complications of patients’ arteriovenous fistula, reduce the failure rate of cannulation, reduce the workload of nurses, and improve the job satisfaction of nurses.Keywords: arteriovenous fistula, informatization, cannulation atlas, management of hemodialysis patients, complications

It can induce immune response; however, its effect on the immune microenvironment in tumor-draining lymph nodes (TdLN) is not well understood. This study aims to identify changes in the immune microenvironment in TdLN following MWA in a Lewis lung cancer (LLC) mouse model.Methods: LLC mouse model was established and followed by MWA. TdLN were collected at various time points, including pre-MWA and days 1, 2, 4, and 8 post-MWA. Flow cytometry was used to determine the frequencies of CD4+ T cells, CD8+ T cells, regulatory T (Treg) cells, natural killer (NK) cells, dendritic cells (DCs) and other immune cells in the TdLN. Certain cytokines were also detected.Results: Compared with pre-MWA, the frequency of CD4+ T cells significantly increased from day 1 to day 8 post-MWA. The frequency of CD8+ T cells decreased significantly on days 2 and 4, but no significant changes occurred on days 1 and 8. Significant decreases in the frequencies of Treg cells and Klrg1+ Treg cells were observed from day 1 to day 4. On days 4 and 8, there was a significant increase in the frequency of NK cells. The frequency of resident cDC2 significantly increased on day 4, whereas CD11b+ migratory cDCs increased on day 1. Additionally, on day 4, a notable rise was observed in the frequency of NK cells secreting IFN-γ, while on day 8, there was a significant increase in the frequency of CD8+ T cells secreting both IFN-γ and TNF-α.Conclusion: MWA of lung cancer can alter the immune microenvironment in the TdLN, triggering immune responses. These changes are particularly evident and intricate within the initial 4 days post-MWA. Although exercise intervention is the most commonly used method to reverse and alleviate frailty, its application is restricted in patients with acute myocardial infarction following PCI due to cardiovascular instability and autonomic imbalance. Consequently, there is a need for a new practical intervention to address frailty syndrome in these patients.Purpose: This study aimed to investigate the effect of neuromuscular electrical stimulation in frail older AMI patients post-PCI.Patients and Methods: A single-blind, randomized controlled trial was carried out in the Department of Cardiovascular Medicine from March to October 2023. A total of 100 eligible participants were randomly divided into two groups: experimental (n = 50) and control (n = 50) groups, respectively. Both groups received usual care. The experimental group underwent neuromuscular electrical stimulation (NMES) on bilateral quadriceps and gastrocnemius muscles for 30 minutes daily from day 1 to day 7 after surgery. The primary outcomes measured included the frailty score, lower limb muscle strength, and lower limb muscle quality. Secondary outcomes included the activities of daily living score, inflammatory markers, and length of hospital stay. All participants were included in an intention-to-treat analysis after the study ended.Results: The frailty scores of the two groups exhibited a gradual decrease over time, and the scores of the experimental group were lower than those of the control group at 4 and 7 days after surgery (P< 0.001). Concurrently, the lower limb muscle strength showed an increasing trend over the time in the experimental group and a decreasing trend in the control group, and the scores of the experimental group surpassed those of the control group (p< 0.001). Moreover, a statistical difference was observed in the lower limb muscle mass across the groups after 7 days postoperatively compared with baseline on both sides (p< 0.05).Conclusion: Neuromuscular electrical stimulation has the potential to enhance lower limb function and alleviate frailty in elderly patients with acute myocardial infarction after PCI. Abstract

We have used an {\it ab initio} Gamow shell model to study the isospin symmetry breaking in the $A=16$ mirror nuclei of $^{16}$F, $^{16}$N, $^{16}$Ne and $^{16}$C. Starting from a chiral interaction with two-nucleon force (2NF) at N$^3$LO and three-nucleon force (3NF) at N$^2$LO, a complex-momentum ${\it psd}$-shell Hamiltonian was constructed by employing the many-body perturbation theory in the Gamow Hartree-Fock basis which includes bound, resonant and continuum states self-consistently. Such an elaborated {\it ab initio} Gamow shell model with both continuum coupling and 3NF included can properly treat the many-body correlations of weakly bound and unbound nuclei. The mirror partners of $^{16}$F and $^{16}$N exhibit different level orders in their excitation spectra, which can be well explained by the inclusion of 3NF in the calculation. The isospin asymmetry between the mirror partners $^{16}$Ne and $^{16}$C was studied in detail by insight into their configuration structures. Abstract

Whether ionization feedback triggers the formation of massive stars is highly debated. Using ALMA 3 mm observations with a spatial resolution of $\sim 0.05$ pc and a mass sensitivity of 1.1 $\rm M_\odot$ beam$^{-1}$ at 20 K, we investigate the star formation and gas flow structures within the ionizing feedback-driven structure, a clump-scale massive ($\gtrsim 1500$ $\rm M_\odot$) bright-rimmed cloud (BRC) associated with IRAS 18290-0924. This BRC is bound only if external compression from ionized gas is considered. A small-scale ($\lesssim1$ pc) age sequence along the direction of ionizing radiation is revealed for the embedded cores and protostars, which suggests triggered star formation via radiation-driven implosion (RDI). Furthermore, filamentary gas structures converge towards the cores located in the BRC's center, indicating that these filaments are fueling mass towards cores. The local core-scale mass infall rate derived from H$^{13}$CO$^+$ $J=1-0$ blue profile is of the same order of magnitude as the filamentary mass inflow rate, approximately 1 $\rm M_\odot$ kyr$^{-1}$. A photodissociation region (PDR) covering the irradiated clump surface is detected in several molecules, such as CCH, HCO$^+$, and CS whereas the spatial distribution stratification of these molecules is indistinct. CCH spectra of the PDR possibly indicate a photoevaporation flow leaving the clump surface with a projected velocity of $\sim2$ km s$^{-1}$. Our new observations show that RDI accompanied by a clump-fed process is operating in this massive BRC. Abstract

Orbital Friction Vibration Actuator (OFVA) is a core component of Orbital Friction Welding (OFW), which is a novel apertureless welding technology utilizing friction heat to implement solid-state joining. In this paper, topology and operational principle of OFVA are introduced, the analytical formulas of the electromagnetic force for the x and y directions, which can drive the mover to generate a circular motion trajectory, are derived, and the characteristic of static electromagnetic force is predicted by analytical method and 2-D (two-dimensional) FEM (finite element method), 3-D and measurement. The coupled magnetic field-circuit-motion simulation models which are driven by current and voltage source are established, respectively, and some of its operational characteristics are analyzed. Simulation and experiment validate theoretical analysis and the feasibility of the fabricated prototype, demonstrate the good performance of the OFVA, and provide valuable reference for engineering applications.

The patients were randomized 3:1 to the training and validation sets. The risk factors for hypoglycemia were analyzed. A prediction model was developed.Results: This study included 122 patients, and 57 patients had at least one hypoglycemic event during their hospitalization (46.72%). The multivariable logistic regression analysis showed that the time to reach the glycemic targets (odds ratio (OR)=1.408, 95% confidence interval (CI)=1.084– 1.825, P=0.006), average glycemia (OR=0.387, 95% CI=0.233– 0.643, P=0.010), coronary heart disease (OR=0.089, 95% CI=0.016– 0.497, P< 0.001), and the administration of hormone therapy (OR=6.807, 95% CI=1.128– 41.081, P=0.037) were independently associated with hypoglycemia. A nomogram was built. The receiver operating characteristics analysis showed that the area under the curve of the model was 0.872 (95% CI=0.0.803– 0.940) for the training set and 0.839 (95% CI=0.688– 0.991) in the validation set.Conclusion: A nomogram was successfully built to predict hypoglycemia in T2DM patients treated with an insulin pump during enteral nutrition, based on the time to reach the glycemic targets, average glycemia, coronary heart disease, and the administration of hormone therapy.Keywords: T2DM, hypoglycemia, enteral nutrition, insulin pump therapy, nomograms

Each imaging modality has its own unique principles, advantages, and limitations, thus necessitating a multimodal approach for a comprehensive disease understanding of the disease process. To enhance diagnostic precision, physicians frequently integrate data from multiple imaging modalities, driving research advancements in multimodal imaging technology research.Methods: In this study, hematoporphyrin-poly (lactic acid) (HP-PLLA) polymer was prepared via ring-opening polymerization and thoroughly characterized using FT-IR, 1H-NMR, XRD, and TGA. HP-PLLA based nanoparticles encapsulating perfluoropentane (PFP) and salicylic acid were prepared via emulsion-solvent evaporation. Zeta potential and mean diameter were assessed using DLS and TEM. Biocompatibility was evaluated via cell migration, hemolysis, and cytotoxicity assays. Ultrasonic imaging was performed with a dedicated apparatus, while CEST MRI was conducted using a 7.0 T animal scanner.Results: We designed and prepared a novel dual-mode nanoimaging probe SA/PFP@HP-PLLA NPs. PFP enhanced US imaging, while salicylic acid bolstered CEST imaging. With an average size of 74.43 ± 1.12 nm, a polydispersity index of 0.175 ± 0.015, and a surface zeta potential of − 64.1 ± 2.11 mV. These NPs exhibit excellent biocompatibility and stability. However, its application in biomedicine is limited by poor solubility and bioavailability. Carbon dots (CDs), novel nanomaterials, have immense promise as carriers for improving the biopharmaceutical properties of active components because of their outstanding characteristics.Methods: In this study, a novel water-soluble carbon dot (MC-CDs) was prepared for the first time from an aqueous extract of Moutan Cortex Carbonisata, and characterized by various spectroscopies, zeta potential and high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM). The toxicity effect was investigated using the CCK-8 assay in vitro. In addition, the potential of MC-CDs as carriers for improving the pharmacokinetic parameters was evaluated in vivo.Results: The results indicated that MC-CDs with a uniform spherical particle size of 1– 5 nm were successfully prepared, which significantly increased the solubility of MA in water. The MC-CDs exhibited low toxicity in HT-22 cells. Most importantly, the MC-CDs effectively affected the pharmacokinetic parameters of MA in normal rats. UPLC-MS analysis indicated that the area under the maximum blood concentration of MA from mangiferin-MC-CDs (MA-MC-CDs) was 1.6-fold higher than that from the MA suspension liquid (MA control) after oral administration at a dose of 20 mg/kg.Conclusion: Moutan Cortex-derived novel CDs exhibited superior performance in improving the solubility and bioavailability of MA. This study not only opens new possibilities for the future clinical application of MA but also provides evidence for the development of green biological carbon dots as a drug delivery system to improve the biopharmaceutical properties of insoluble drugs. Adjustment of the conventional adjuvant chemotherapy doses affect the prognosis and may affect the efficacy of subsequent treatments. This study investigated whether the survival benefit of the SYSUCC-001 trial was affected by dose adjustment of the standard adjuvant chemotherapy or not.Patients and Methods: We reviewed the adjuvant chemotherapy regimens before the extended capecitabine in the SYSUCC-001 trial. Patients were classified into “consistent” (standard acceptable dose) and “inconsistent” (doses lower than acceptable dose) dose based on the minimum acceptable dose range in the landmark clinical trials. Cox proportional hazards model was used to investigate the impact of dose on the survival outcomes.Results: All 434 patients in SYSUCC-001 trial were enrolled in this study. Most of patients administered the anthracycline-taxane regimen accounted for 88.94%. Among patients in the “inconsistent” dose, 60.8% and 47% received lower doses of anthracycline and taxane separately. In the observation group, the “inconsistent” dose of anthracycline and taxane did not affect DFS compared with the “consistent” dose. Moreover, in the capecitabine group, the “inconsistent” anthracycline dose did not affect DFS compared with the “consistent” dose. However, patients with “consistent” taxane doses benefited significantly from extended capecitabine (P=0.014). The sufficient dose of adjuvant taxane had a positive effect of extended capecitabine (hazard ratio [HR] 2.04; 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.02 to 4.06).Conclusion: This study found the dose reduction of adjuvant taxane might negatively impact the efficacy of capecitabine. As the exact causal inferences remain inconclusive, we conducted a two-sample Mendelian randomization (MR) to identify the causal associations between OSA and BMD.Methods: Single-nucleotide polymorphisms associated with OSA were extracted from the FinnGen study. Summary statistics for 10 BMD measured at different age or skeletal sites were obtained from the publicly available IEU GWAS database. Inverse-variance weighted (IVW) method was chosen as the primary analysis, combined with several sensitivity analyses to evaluate the robustness of results. The study design included two-sample MR and network MR.Results: Our primary MR analysis revealed that genetically predicted OSA was positively linked to increased forearm BMD (β = 0.24, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 0.06– 0.41, p = 0.009) and heel BMD (β=0.10, 95% CI = 0.02– 0.18, p = 0.018), while no significant causal relationships were observed between OSA and total body BMD, lumbar spine BMD, or femoral neck BMD (all p > 0.05). Network MR suggests that OSA might act as a mediating factor in the effect of BMI on forearm BMD and heel BMD, with a mediated portion estimated at 73% and 84%, respectively.Conclusion: Our findings provide support for a causal relationship between genetically predicted OSA and increased forearm BMD and heel BMD. The commercial conduits have shown suboptimal nerve regeneration and functional recovery due to their basic tubular design without electroactive and oriented topographical cues.Purpose: To develop a new scaffold with oriented microstructure and electroactive Graphene oxide (GO) and investigate its’ therapeutic effect on nerve regeneration in vitro and in vivo.Methods: This study employed a straightforward approach to co-spin PCL and GO, yielding an oriented hybrid nanofibrous scaffold known as the O-GO/PCL scaffold. The physical and chemical properties of nanofibrous scaffold were tested by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscope (TEM), tensile test and so on. Primary Schwann cells (SCs) and dorsal root ganglia (DRG) were used to investigate the impact of the newly developed scaffolds on the biological behavior of neural cells in vitro. Transcriptome sequencing (mRNA-seq) was employed to probe the underlying mechanisms of the synergistic effect of electroactive GO and longitudinal topographic guidance on nerve regeneration. Furthermore, the developed O-GO/PCL scaffold was utilized to bridge a 10-mm sciatic nerve defect in rat, aiming to investigate its therapeutic potential for peripheral nerve regeneration in vivo.Results and discussion: The SEM and TEM revealed that the newly developed O-GO/PCL scaffold showed longitudinally oriented microstructure and GO particles were homogenously and uniformly distributed inside the nanofibers. Primary SCs were utilized to assess the biocompatibility of the GO-based scaffold, revealing that negligible cytotoxicity when GO concentration does not exceed 0.5%. In vitro analysis of nerve regeneration demonstrated that axons in the O-GO/PCL group exhibited an average length of 1054.88 ± 161.32 μm, significant longer than those in the other groups (P < 0.05). Moreover, mRNA sequencing results suggested that the O-GO/PCL scaffold could enhance nerve regeneration by upregulating genes associated with neural regeneration, encompassing ion transport, axon guidance and cell–cell interactions. Most importantly, we employed the O-GO/PCL scaffold to repair a 10-mm sciatic nerve defect in rat, resulting in augmented nerve regeneration, myelination, and functional recovery.Conclusion: The O-GO/PCL scaffold with oriented microstructure and electroactive GO represents a promising heral nerve reconstruction. Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) based intervention presents innovative solutions that can help improve sleep-related outcomes.Aim: This synthesis aims to assess the effectiveness of CBT-based intervention compared to controls in Randomized Controlled Trials (RCTs) for sleep-related outcomes among people with diabetes.Methods: Eight electronic databases were systematically searched: PubMed, EMBASE, Cochrane library, Web of Science, PsycINFO, CINAHL, China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), and Wan Fang database. We examined CBT-based intervention’s effectiveness on sleep-related outcomes in people with diabetes in RCTs identified in these databases from their inception to 1st November 2023, and updated on 15 January 2024. The risk of bias was assessed using the Cochrane Risk of Bias tool by two reviewers. The meta-analysis of included studies was conducted by RevMan 5.3 software.Results: Seven studies in total (n = 2633 participants) were included in this systematic review based on our inclusion criteria. The systematic review found CBT-based intervention significantly improved sleep quality (Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index, PSQI scores) at immediate post-intervention [95% CI=(− 1.31 to -0.32), p = 0.001], six months [95% CI=(− 0.75 to − 0.22), p = 0.0003], and 12 months [95% CI=(− 0.72 to − 0.24), < 0.0001], compared to control groups. Furthermore, our findings demonstrated that six sessions [95% CI= (− 0.38 to − 0.13), p < 0.0001] or more than six sessions [95% CI=(− 1.76 to − 0.02), p = 0.05] of CBT-based intervention could improve sleep quality compared to controls (I2=0%). Interestingly, CBT-based intervention improves total sleep time at post-intervention in people with diabetes compared to the control group [95% CI= (− 0.57 to − 0.12), p = 0.003]. However, there was no significant that CBT-based intervention is beneficial to time to fall asleep [95% CI (− 1.89 to 0.43), p = 0.22] and sleep efficiency [95% CI (− 1.27 to 0.27), p = 0.20] after intervention, compared to control group.Conclusion: CBT-based intervention appears to have a beneficial effect on improving sleep quality and total sleep time among people with diabetes. CBT-based intervention could be considered a strategy among healthcare providers to enhance sleep quality and total sleep time for people with diabetes. Abstract

Quasi-one-dimensional (quasi-1D) materials are a newly arising topic in low-dimensional researches. As a result of reduced dimensionality and enhanced anisotropy, the quasi-1D structure gives rise to novel properties and promising applications such as photodetectors. However, it remains an open question whether performance crossover will occur when the channel material is downsized. Here we report on the fabrication and testing of photodetectors based on exfoliated quasi-1D BiSeI thin wires. Compared with the device on bulk crystal, a significantly enhanced photoresponse is observed, which is manifested by a series of performance parameters, including ultrahigh responsivity (7 x 10$^4$ A W$^{-1}$), specific detectivity (2.5 x 10$^{14}$ Jones) and external quantum efficiency (1.8 x 10$^7$%) when $V_{\textrm {ds}}$ = 3 V, $\lambda$ = 515 nm and $P$ = 0.01 mW cm$^{-2}$. The conventional photoconductive effect is unlikely to account for such a superior photoresponse, which is ultimately understood in terms of the increased specific surface area and the photogating effect caused by trapping states. Abstract

We have developed an {\it ab initio} deformed in-medium similarity renormalization group (IMSRG) for open-shell nuclei. This is a single-reference IMSRG in deformed Hartree-Fock (HF) basis. Deformed wave functions are more efficient in describing deformed nuclei. The broken spherical symmetry needs to be restored by angular momentum projection, which is computational expensive. The angular momentum mainly capture the static correlations and can be estimated by the projection of the HF state. In this work, we do deformed IMSRG calculation and add the correlation energy from projected HF as a leading order approximation. As the test ground, we have calculated the deformed $^{8,10}\rm Be$ isotopes with the optimized chiral interaction NNLO$_{\rm opt}$. The results are benchmarked with the no-core shell model and valence space IMSRG calculations. Then we systematically investigated the ground-state energies and charge radii of even-even isotopes from light beryllium to medium-mass magnesium. The calculated energies are extrapolated to infinite basis space by an exponential form, and compared with the extrapolated valence-space IMSRG results and experimental data available.

Abstract

Investigating the physical and chemical structures of massive star-forming regions is critical for understanding the formation and the early evolution of massive stars. We performed a detailed line survey toward six dense cores named as MM1, MM4, MM6, MM7, MM8, and MM11 in G9.62+0.19 star-forming region resolved in ALMA band 3 observations. Toward these cores, about 172 transitions have been identified and attributed to 16 species including organic Oxygen-, Nitrogen-, Sulfur-bearing molecules and their isotopologues. Four dense cores MM7, MM8, MM4, and MM11 are line rich sources. Modeling of these spectral lines reveals the rotational temperature in a range of 72$-$115~K, 100$-$163~K, 102$-$204~K, and 84$-$123~K for the MM7, MM8, MM4, and MM11, respectively. The molecular column densities are 1.6 $\times$ 10$^{15}$ $-$ 9.2 $\times$ 10$^{17}$~cm$^{-2}$ toward the four cores. The cores MM8 and MM4 show chemical difference between Oxygen- and Nitrogen-bearing species, i.e., MM4 is rich in oxygen-bearing molecules while nitrogen-bearing molecules especially vibrationally excited HC$_{3}$N lines are mainly observed in MM8. The distinct initial temperature at accretion phase may lead to this N/O differentiation. Through analyzing column densities and spatial distributions of O-bearing Complex Organic Molecules (COMs), we found that C$_{2}$H$_{5}$OH and CH$_{3}$OCH$_{3}$ might have a common precursor, CH$_{3}$OH. CH$_{3}$OCHO and CH$_{3}$OCH$_{3}$ are likely chemically linked. In addition, the observed variation in HC$_{3}$N and HC$_{5}$N emission may indicate that their different formation mechanism at hot and cold regions., Comment: 40 pages, 23 figures

Metrnl is a secreted protein that plays an important role in kidney disease. The aim of this study was to investigate DKD-related factors and the correlation between serum Metrnl levels and the severity of DKD.Methods: Ninety-six type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) patients and 45 DKD patients were included in the study. A range of parameters were measured simultaneously, including waist-to-hip ratio (WHR), body mass index (BMI), urinary albumin/creatinine ratio (UACR), monocyte–lymphocyte ratio (MLR), albumin/globulin (A/G), liver and kidney function, blood lipid profile, islet function, and others. Subsequently, the related factors and predictive significance of DKD were identified. The correlation between the relevant factors of DKD and serum Metrnl levels with DKD was evaluated.Results: The duration of the disease (OR: 1.12, 95% CI: 1.01– 1.24, P=0.031), hypertension (OR: 4.86, 95% CI: 1.16– 20.49, P=0.031), fasting blood glucose (OR: 1.23, 95% CI: 1.03– 1.48, P=0.025), WHR (OR: 2.53, 95% CI: 1.03– 6.22, P=0.044), and MLR (OR: 1.91, 95% CI: 1.18– 3.08, P=0.008) are independent risk factors for DKD (P < 0.05). Conversely, A/G (OR: 0.13, 95% CI: 0.02– 0.76, P=0.024) and Metrnl (OR: 0.99, 95% CI: 0.98– 1.00, P=0.001) have been identified as protective factors against DKD. Furthermore, the level of Metrnl was negatively correlated with the severity of DKD (rs=− 0.447, P< 0.001). The area under receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves for the diagnostic accuracy of Metrnl for DKD is 0.765 (95% CI: 0.686– 0.844).Conclusion: The duration of the disease, hypertension, fasting blood glucose, WHR, and MLR are major risk factors for DKD. Metrnl and A/G are protective factors for DKD. We sought to investigate the plausible causal link between genetically proxied lipid-lowering medications—specifically HMGCR inhibitors, PCSK9 inhibitors, and NPC1L1 inhibitors—and cholelithiasis risk.Methods: Our study utilized two genetic instruments for exposure to lipid-lowering drugs. These instruments encompassed genetic variants linked to low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol within or in proximity to drug target genes, along with loci governing gene expression traits of these targets. Effect estimates were derived through Inverse-variance-weighted MR (IVW-MR) and summary-data-based MR (SMR) methods.Results: Higher HMGCR-mediated LDL cholesterol levels (IVW-MR, OR = 2.15, 95% CI = 1.58– 2.94; P = 0.000) and increased HMGCR expression (SMR, OR = 1.19, 95% CI = 1.04– 1.37; P = 0.014) are linked to elevated cholelithiasis risk, suggesting potential benefits of HMGCR inhibition. In contrast, higher PCSK9-mediated LDL cholesterol levels (IVW-MR, OR = 0.72, 95% CI = 0.56– 0.94; P = 0.015) and increased PCSK9 expression (SMR, OR = 0.90, 95% CI = 0.82– 0.99; P = 0.035) both correlate with lower cholelithiasis risk, indicating that PCSK9 inhibition may elevate this risk. Nevertheless, no substantial link emerged between NPC1L1-mediated LDL cholesterol or NPC1L1 expression and cholelithiasis in both IVW-MR and SMR analyses.Conclusion: This MR investigation affirms the causal link between the utilization of HMGCR inhibitors and a diminished risk of cholelithiasis. Additionally, it indicates a causal link between PCSK9 inhibitors use and increased cholelithiasis risk. Randomized controlled trials (RCT) comparing ketamine with placebo or other interventions to alleviate PIP in adults were included. Fixed-effects or random-effects models were used to calculate pooled risk ratios (RR) and corresponding 95% confidence intervals (CI) based on the heterogeneity of the studies included.Results: Thirteen RCTs involving 2105 patients were included. In terms of reducing the incidence of PIP, ketamine is more effective than placebo (RR = 0.43, 95% CI = [0.34, 0.55], P < 0.00001), lidocaine (RR = 0.70, 95% CI = [0.55, 0.90], P = 0.005), dexmedetomidine (RR = 0.52, 95% CI = [0.40, 0.66], P < 0.00001), and thiopental (RR = 0.25, 95% CI = [0.08, 0.83], P = 0.02). In reducing the incidence of severe PIP, ketamine is superior to placebo (RR = 0.12, 95% CI = [0.08, 0.19], P < 0.00001), and lidocaine (RR = 0.34, 95% CI = [0.21, 0.56], P < 0.0001), except dexmedetomidine (RR = 0.20, 95% CI = [0.04, 1.13], P = 0.07), and thiopental (RR = 0.33, 95% CI = [0.04, 3.10], P = 0.33). Compared with mixed injection, separate injection of ketamine and propofol showed no significant difference in the incidence of PIP (RR = 0.96, 95% CI = [0.31, 3.00], P = 0.95) and severe PIP (RR = 1.19, 95% CI = [0.07, 21.29], P = 0.90). Based solely on the reports from the studies included, subanesthetic doses of ketamine are generally safe in preventing PIP.Conclusion: A subanesthetic dose of ketamine can effectively and safely reduce the incidence of PIP and severe PIP in adults, and is more effective than lidocaine, dexmedetomidine, and thiopental.Registration: PROSPERO CRD42023455093.Keywords: ketamine, pain, injection, propofol, meta-analysis

To improve the efficacy and safety profile of mechanical ventilation, manufacturers have developed advanced ventilator settings, modes, and alarm strategies to optimize ventilation for patient needs while avoiding complications. However, there is little real-world data published on the deployment of ventilator technology. The main objective of this study was to assess the clinical safety and performance of the Puritan Bennett™ 980 Ventilator System (PB980) using real-world clinical data collected from a diverse, global patient population.Methods: This was a multi-center, post-market registry study that included nine sites: four in the United States of America, one in Europe, and four in China. Patients were enrolled into the registry if they were intended to be treated with a PB980. Data collection began at the start of ventilation and continued until extubation off the ventilator or up to seven days of ventilation, whichever occurred first. Subjects were divided by age into three categories: infants (0– 365 days), pediatric (1– 17 years), and adult (18 years and older). The primary outcome was device-related complication rate.Results: Two-hundred-and-eleven subjects were enrolled (41 infants, 48 pediatric, and 122 adults). Sixteen deaths, unrelated to device deficiency, occurred during the data collection timeframe (relative frequency: 7.58, 95% CI: 4.40, 12.0). Only one device-related adverse event was reported (relative frequency: 0.47% 95% CI: 0.01%, 2.61%).Conclusion: Ventilation by the PB980 was delivered safely in this multi-center observational study, which included a diverse sample of patients with broad ventilatory needs.Plain Language Summary: Mechanical ventilation is a life supporting intervention. RFA can cause hemolytic reactions during hepatic hemangioma ablation. However, the mechanisms underlying RFA-induced SIRS remain unclear.Methods: We established an orthotopic liver hemangioma model and performed radiofrequency ablation. The levels of interleukin (IL)-1β and IL-18 and the production of ROS were measured. The wet-to-dry lung ratio, inflammation score, and in vivo endothelial cell permeability were examined. GSDMD−/− mice were used to investigate the effect of heme-inducing SIRS. RNA sequencing (RNA-seq) was performed to identify the main pathways underlying heme-induced SIRS. Western blotting and immunoprecipitation were used to determine the changes and interactions of associated proteins.Results: The levels of heme, IL-1β, and IL-18 were significantly increased after RFA. The wet-to-dry lung ratio increased in hepatic hemangiomas after RFA, indicating that SIRS occurred. Heme induced increased levels of IL-1β and IL-18, cell death, wet-to-dry lung radio, and inflammation score in vitro and in vivo, indicating that heme induced SIRS and pyroptosis. Furthermore, GSDMD participates in heme-induced SIRS in mice, and GSDMD deletion in mice reverses the effect of heme. Heme regulates NLRP3 activation through the NOX4/ROS/TXNIP-TRX pathway, and an N-acetyl-L-cysteine (NAC) or NOX4 inhibitor (GLX351322) reverses heme-induced SIRS.Conclusion: Our findings suggest that heme induces endothelial cell pyroptosis and SIRS in mice and decreasing heme levels and ROS scavengers may prevent SIRS in hepatic hemangioma after RFA. Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) is used to help manage Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) and has steadily gained international acceptance. Despite being generally accepted in daily practice, the TCM methods and hypotheses for understanding diseases lack applicability in the current scientific characterization systems. To date, there is no systematic evaluation system for TCM in preventing and treating T2DM. Metabonomics is a powerful tool to predict the level of metabolites in vivo, reveal the potential mechanism, and diagnose the physiological state of patients in time to guide the follow-up intervention of T2DM. Notably, metabolomics is also effective in promoting TCM modernization and advancement in personalized medicine. This review provides updated knowledge on applying metabolomics to TCM syndrome differentiation, diagnosis, biomarker discovery, and treatment of T2DM by TCM. Its application in diabetic complications is discussed. The biofilm biomasses were reduced significantly by 48.2% (P< 0.05), and the main components polysaccharides and proteins were reduced by 47.5% and 36.8%, respectively. These decreases were about 3.1 (15.9%), 7.3 (6.5%), and 1.9 (19.5%) times higher compared with those reported for free AZI. The disruption of biofilm structure was observed under a confocal microscope with fluorescent labeling, and 48.2% of the cells in the biofilm were killed. By contrast, the clearance rates of cells were only 20% and 17% when treated alone with blank micelles or free AZI. Biofilm formation was inhibited up to 92% in the AZI@RHL group due to effects on cell auto-aggregation and eDNA release. The rates for the other groups were significantly lower, with only 27.7% for the RHL group and 12% for the AZI group (P< 0.05). The low cell survival and great formation inhibition could reduce biofilm recolonization and re-formation.Conclusion: The antibiofilm efficacy of rhamnolipid was improved through micellar nanoparticle effects when loading azithromycin. AZI@RHL provides a one-step solution that covers biofilm disruption, bacteria inactivation, recolonization avoidance, and biofilm re-formation inhibition. Abstract

With both three-nucleon force and continuum coupling included, we have developed a self-consistent {\it ab initio} Gamow shell model within the Gamow Hartree-Fock (GHF) basis obtained by the realistic interaction itself. With the chiral two-nucleon N$^3$LO and three-nucleon N$^2$LO interactions, the Gamow shell model has been applied to the mirror systems of $Z=8$ neutron-rich isotopes and $N=8$ proton-rich isotones, giving good agreements with data in binding energies, dripline positions and excitation spectra. The GHF calculated that the $0d_{3/2}$, $1s_{1/2}$ and $1p_{3/2}$ orbitals are resonances. The resonance states and their interplay with nonresonant continua play a crucial role in the descriptions of nuclei around driplines. Excitation spectra and Thomas-Ehrman shifts observed can be better described when both three-nucleon force and continuum coupling are considered in calculations. The three-nucleon force and continuum coupling produce a combined effect on the Thomas-Ehrman shift, e.g., for the ${1/2}^+$ resonance level of $^{19}$Na. We demonstrate that Bayesian machine learning can be used to treat the vast amount of experimental fission data which are noisy, incomplete, discrepant, and correlated. As an example, the two-dimensional cumulative fission yields (CFY) of neutron-induced fission of $^{238}$U are evaluated with energy dependencies and uncertainty qualifications. For independent fission yields (IFY) with very few experimental data, the heterogeneous data fusion of CFY and IFY is employed to interpolate the energy dependence. The even-even Ti isotopic chain, from A = 42 to 70, has been studied within the nuclear shell-model framework by employing an effective Hamiltonian which is derived by way of many-body perturbation theory from a chiral potential with two- and three-body forces, and includes three-body contributions which account for Pauli principle violations in nuclei with more than two valence particles. We consider 40Ca as a closed core and a model space spanned by the neutron and proton 0f1p orbitals with the addition of the 0g9/2 orbital for neutrons. Calculated two-neutron separation energies and excitation energies of the yrast 2+ states are reported and compared with the experimental data, which are available up to 62Ti. Abstract

Background: The half-life of the famous $^{14}$C $\beta$ decay is anomalously long, with different mechanisms: the tensor force, cross-shell mixing, and three-body forces, proposed to explain the cancellations that lead to a small transition matrix element. Purpose: We revisit and analyze the role of the tensor force for the $\beta$ decay of $^{14}$C as well as of neighboring isotopes. Methods: We add a tensor force to the Gogny interaction, and derive an effective Hamiltonian for shell-model calculations. The calculations were carried out in a $p$-$sd$ model space to investigate cross-shell effects. Furthermore, we decompose the wave functions according to the total orbital angular momentum $L$ in order to analyze the effects of the tensor force and cross-shell mixing. Results: The inclusion of the tensor force significantly improves the shell-model calculations of the $\beta$-decay properties of carbon isotopes. In particular, the anomalously slow $\beta$ decay of $^{14}$C can be explained by the isospin $T=0$ part of the tensor force, which changes the components of $^{14}$N with the orbital angular momentum $L=0,1$, and results in a dramatic suppression of the Gamow-Teller transition strength. At the same time, the description of other nearby $\beta$ decays are improved. Conclusions: Decomposition of wave function into $L$ components illuminates how the tensor force modifies nuclear wave functions, in particular suppression of $\beta$-decay matrix elements. Cross-shell mixing also has a visible impact on the $\beta$-decay strength. Abstract

All-optical switching increasingly plays an important role in optical information processing. However, simultaneous achievement of ultralow power consumption, broad bandwidth and high extinction ratio remains challenging. We experimentally demonstrate an ultralow-power all-optical switching by exploiting chiral interaction between light and optically active material in a Mach-Zehnder interferometer (MZI). We achieve switching extinction ratio of 20.0(3.8) and 14.7(2.8) dB with power cost of 66.1(0.7) and 1.3(0.1) fJ/bit, respectively. The bandwidth of our all-optical switching is about 4.2 GHz. Our theoretical analysis shows that the switching bandwidth can, in principle, exceed 110 GHz. Moreover, the switching has the potential to be operated at few-photon level. Our all-optical switching exploits a chiral MZI made of linear optical components. It excludes the requisite of high-quality optical cavity or large optical nonlinearity, thus greatly simplifying realization. Abstract

The $A=4$ nuclei, i.e., $^4$H, $^4$He and $^4$Li, establish an interesting isospin $T=1$ isobaric system. $^4$H and $^4$Li are unbound broad resonances, whereas $^4$He is deeply bound in its ground state but unbound in all its excited states. The present situation is that experiments so far have not given consistent data on the resonances. Few-body calculations have well studied the scatterings of the $4N$ systems. In the present work, we provide many-body calculations of the broad resonance structures, in an \textit{ab initio} framework with modern realistic interactions. It occurs that, indeed, $^4$H, $^4$Li and excited $^4$He are broad resonances, which is in accordance with experimental observations. The calculations also show that the first $1^-$ excited state almost degenerates with the $2^-$ ground state in the pair of mirror isobars of $^4$H and $^4$Li, which may suggest that the experimental data on energy and width are the mixture of the ground state and the first excited state. The $T = 1$ isospin triplet formed with an excited state of $^4$He and ground states of $^4$H and $^4$Li is studied, focusing on the effect of isospin symmetry breaking., Comment: 7 pages; 3 figures

50. Revisiting the variational two-particle reduced density matrix for nuclear systems

Abstract

In most nuclear many-body methods, observables are calculated using many-body wave functions explicitly. The variational two-particle reduced density matrix method is one of the few exceptions to the rule. Ground-state energies of both closed-shell and open-shell nuclear systems can indeed be evaluated by minimizing a constrained linear functional of the two-particle reduced density matrix. However, it has virtually never been used in nuclear theory, because nuclear ground states were found to be well overbound, contrary to those of atoms and molecules. Consequently, we introduced new constraints in the nuclear variational two-particle reduced density matrix method, developed recently for atomic and molecular systems. Our calculations then show that this approach can provide a proper description of nuclear systems where only valence neutrons are included. For the nuclear systems where both neutrons and protons are active, however, the energies obtained with the variational two-particle reduced density matrix method are still overbound. The possible reasons for the noticed discrepancies and solutions to this problem will be discussed., Comment: 14 pages, 9 figures
