Abstract The endothelium-dependent vascular injury, a primary pathological feature of angiotensin II (Ang II)-induced hypertension. This study aimed to explore the role and underlying mechanisms of G protein-coupled receptor 39 (GPR39) in the pathogenesis of Ang II-induced hypertension. For in vivo studies, GPR39 knockout (KO) mice (C57BL/6 J, male) were generated and administered Ang II for 4 weeks. GPR39 expression was upregulated in the aorta of hypertensive patients and mice. The ablation of GPR39 mitigated vascular fibrosis, augmented endothelium-dependent vasodilation, and inhibited endothelial inflammation, oxidative stress, and apoptosis in mice. Additionally, GPR39 KO decreased NOD-like receptor protein 3 (Nlrp3) gene expression in Ang II-stimulated endothelial cells. Notably, Nlrp3 activation counteracted the therapeutic benefits of GPR39 KO. We identified the potential ligand of GPR39 using structure-based high throughput virtual screening (HTVS) and validated its antihypertensive function in vitro and in vivo. The small molecule ligand Z1780628919 of GPR39 can also reduce Ang II-induced hypertension and improve vascular function. GPR39 KO and the small molecule ligand Z1780628919 potentially downregulates Nlrp3, thereby mitigating vascular fibrosis, endothelial inflammation, oxidative stress, and apoptosis. This effect contributes to the alleviation of Ang II-induced hypertension and the rectification of vascular dysfunctions. These findings suggest new avenues for therapeutic intervention.

Abstract Background We concurrently developed a prospective study to assess clinical outcomes among patients receiving 9-month bedaquiline (BDQ)-containing regimens, aiming to provide valuable data on the use of this short-course regimen in China. Methods This open-label, randomized, controlled, multicenter, non-inferiority trial was conducted at sixteen hospitals, and enrolled participants aged 18 years and older with pulmonary rifampicin/multidrug tuberculosis. Participants were randomly assigned, in a 1:1 ratio. Individuals within the standard-regimen group received 6 months of BDQ, linezolid, levofloxacin, clofazimine, and cycloserine plus 12 months of levofloxacin, and any three potentially effective drugs from clofazimine, cycloserine pyrazinamide, ethambutol and protionamide, whereas individuals within shorter-regimen group received 9 months of BDQ, linezolid, levofloxacin, clofazimine and cycloserine. The primary outcome was the percentage of participants with a composite unfavorable outcome (treatment failure, death, treatment discontinuation, or loss to follow-up) by the end of the treatment course after randomization in the modified intention-to-treat population. The noninferiority margin was 10%. This trial was registered with www.chictr.org.cn , ChiCTR2000029012. Results Between Jan 1, 2020, and Dec 31, 2023, 264 were screened and randomly assigned, 132 of 264 participants were assigned to the standard-regimen group and 132 were assigned to the shorter-regimen. Thirty-three (12.55%) of 264 participants were excluded from the modified intention-to-treat analysis. As a result, 231 participants were included in the modified intention-to-treat analysis (116 in the standard-regimen group and 115 in the shorter-regimen group).In the modified intention-to-treat population, unfavorable outcomes were reported in 19 (16.5%) of 115 participants for whom the outcome was assessable in the shorter-regimen group and 26 (22.4%) of 116 participants in the standard care group (risk difference 5.9 percentage points (97.5% CI − 5.8 to 17.5)). One death was reported in the standard-regimen group. The incidence of QTcF prolongation in the shorter-regimen group (22.6%, 26/115) was similar to the standard-regimen group (24.1%, 28/116). Conclusions The 9-month, all-oral regimen is safe and efficacious for the treatment of pulmonary rifampicin/multidrug-resistant tuberculosis. The high incidence of QTc prolongation associated with the use of BDQ highlights the urgent need of routine electrocardiogram monitoring under treatment with BDQ-containing regimens in the Chinese population.

Phosphaturic mesenchymal tumors (PMTs) are extremely rare mesenchymal tumors of soft tissue and bone that cause tumor-induced osteomalacia (TIO). Some of these tumors are completely asymptomatic and may grow undetected unless they become large enough to cause pain or discomfort. This type of tumor is crucial to diagnose in patients being treated for phosphate metabolism disorders and are a rare reason why patients seek medical help owing to pain. Here, we report the details of a patient with progressive bone pain caused by a PMT originating in the left femur.

Abstract Background The aim of this case report is to evaluate minimally invasive stabilization using screws and cement for acetabular metastatic tumor and summarize the indications and contraindications for minimally invasive stabilization of acetabular metastatic tumors with screw and cement techniques. Case presentation Under imaging guidance, a patient with acetabular metastatic tumor was treated with hollow screw combined with bone cement fixation. Ischial screw, ascending branch screw, and anterior and posterior screws were inserted to firmly fix the anterior and posterior column of the acetabulum. At the same time, the third screw connected the anterior and posterior columns together, combined with bone cement into the fracture site to further increase local stability and resist bone defects caused by local tumor osteolysis. The patient was a 52-year-old Uygur male. Herein, we summarize his clinical symptoms and operation. Differences in visual analog scale and walking function (Musculoskeletal Tumor Society) before operation and at 2 months, 6 months, and 12 months after operation were compared. Results Postoperative complications and tumor progression were recorded. The patient was followed up for 16 months, and the operative time was 60 minutes. In total, 20 ml of bone cement was injected into the acetabular posterior column and the top of the acetabulum. VIsual analog scale score was 8 before operation, 3 at 2 months, 3 at 6 months, and 2 at 12 months after operation. Musculoskeletal Tumor Society function was 13 before operation, 23 at 2 months, 25 at 6 months, and 26 at 12 months after operation. During follow-up, no cement leakage, fever, hip nerve injury, pulmonary embolism, or imaging findings of further destruction of the acetabulum and surrounding bone were noted. Conclusion This case report shows that the treatment of acetabular metastatic cancer with minimally invasive stabilization using screws and cement under the C arm can effectively relieve pain and enhance the strength of the pelvis, and is innovative and feasible.

Abstract Aims Left ventricular aneurysm (LVA) is an important complication of acute myocardial infarction. The aim of this study was to investigate the possible predictive value of blood urea nitrogen‐to‐albumin ratio (BAR) for the LVA formation in acute ST‐segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) patients who underwent primary percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). Methods and results A total of 1123 consecutive patients with STEMI were prospectively enrolled. The clinical and laboratory data were compared between LVA group and non‐LVA group. Multivariable logistic regression analysis was performed to assess the independent risk factors of LVA formation. Predictive power of BAR and composite variable for LVA formation were assessed using receiver operating characteristic curve. LVA was detected in 162 patients (14.4%). Abstract Alamandine (Ala), a ligand of Mas-related G protein-coupled receptor, member D (MrgD), alleviates angiotensin II (AngII)-induced cardiac hypertrophy. However, the specific physiological and pathological role of MrgD is not yet elucidated. Here, we found that MrgD expression increased under various pathological conditions. Then, MrgD knockdown prevented AngII-induced cardiac hypertrophy and fibrosis via inactivating Gαi-mediacted downstream signaling pathways, including the phosphorylation of p38 (p-P38), while MrgD overexpression induced pathological cardiac remodeling. Next, Ala, like silencing MrgD, exerted its cardioprotective effects by inhibiting Ang II-induced nuclear import of MrgD. MrgD interacted with p-P38 and promoted its entry into the nucleus under Ang II stimulation. Our results indicated that Ala was a blocking ligand of MrgD that inhibited downstream signaling pathway, which unveiled the promising cardioprotective effect of silencing MrgD expression on alleviating cardiac remodeling. Objective: MicroRNA (miR) therapeutics is a promising approach to manage coronary artery disease (CAD). Herein, this research was aimed to explore miR-181c-5p-related mechanisms in CAD through regulating SIRT1. Methods: A CAD mouse model was established by feeding a high-fat diet in 8-week-old ApoE−/− mice. miR-181c-5p, SIRT1, and acetylated p65 levels in mouse myocardial tissues were evaluated by RT-qPCR and Western blot. Hemodynamic parameters included the maximum rising rate of the left ventricular pressure (lv + dp/dtmax) and the time values from the onset of contraction to dp/dtmax (t-dp/dtmax), while hemorheological indices included whole blood viscosity (low shear, middle shear, or high shear), plasma viscosity, hematocrit, and platelet adhesion were measured. Tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), interleukin-1β (IL-1β), and IL-6 were detected. Mouse pathological changes, degree of fibrosis, and cardiomyocyte apoptosis in myocardial tissues were assessed by HE, Masson, and TUNEL staining, respectively. The targeting relationship between miR-181c-5p and SIRT1 was verified by bioinformatics tools, dual luciferase reporter gene assay, and RNA pull-down assays. Results: In myocardial tissue of CAD mice, miR-181c-5p and acetylated p65 were upregulated while SIRT1 was downregulated. Downregulating miR-181c-5p or upregulating SIRT1 effectively ameliorated CAD by improving hemodynamics and hemorheology and reducing inflammation, pathological changes, degree of fibrosis, and cardiomyocyte apoptosis in myocardial tissues of mice. miR-181c-5p targeted SIRT1, and overexpression of SIRT1 relieved upregulated miR-181c-5p-induced injuries in CAD mice. Regulating miR-181c-5p and SIRT1 affected the acetylation of p65. Conclusion: Downregulation of miR-181c-5p may ameliorate myocardial pathological changes and cardiomyocyte apoptosis in CAD by upregulating SIRT1 expression and decreasing acetylated p65 levels.

Prestressed steel strands in prestressed structures offset or reduce the tensile stress caused by external loads, making them the primary load-bearing components. Great concerns have been raised about prestress monitoring due to the growing use of structural health monitoring (SHM). Piezoceramic (PZT) active sensing methods are commonly used in this field. However, there appears to be a problem of “energy saturation” in the utilization of piezoceramic active sensing methods. In this study, a smart anchor washer with semi-cylinders was developed to alleviate the saturation problem. An intelligent monitoring system is formed by combining the upper and lower annular cylinders with two piezoelectric patches. The piezoelectric patch on the upper annular cylinder is used as an actuator to emit signals through the contact interface of the smart anchor washer, which are then received by the piezoelectric patch on the lower annular cylinder. Based on wavelet packet decomposition, we investigate the correlation between the energy of the received signal and the applied tension force. Finally, a prestressing force index is developed for monitoring prestressing force using Shannon entropy. It is found that the index decreases with the increase in tension. The proposed design and index are also sensitive to early monitoring of prestressing force and can be used to monitor the entire prestressing process of steel strands.

Abstract Alamandine (Ala) is the newest identified peptide of the renin-angiotensin system and has protective effect on myocyte hypertrophy. However, it is still unclear whether Ala can alleviate heart failure (HF). The aim of this study was to explore the effects of Ala on HF and the related cardiac fibrosis, and to probe the mechanism. HF model was induced by myocardial infarction (MI) in mice. Four weeks after MI, Ala was administrated by intraperitoneal injection for two weeks. Ala injection significantly improved cardiac dysfunction of MI mice in vivo. The cardiac fibrosis and the related biomarkers were attenuated after Ala administration in HF mice in vivo. The increases of collagen I, alpha-smooth muscle actin and transforming growth factor-beta induced by oxygen–glucose deprivation (OGD) in neonatal rat cardiac fibroblasts (NRCFs) were inhibited by Ala treatment in vitro. The biomarkers of apoptosis were elevated in NRCFs induced by OGD, which were attenuated after treating with Ala in vitro. The enhancement of oxidative stress in the heart of MI mice or in the NRCFs treated with OGD was suppressed by treating with Ala in vivo and in vitro. These effects of Ala were reversed by tBHP, an exogenous inducer of oxidative stress in vitro. These results demonstrated that Ala could alleviate cardiac dysfunction and attenuate cardiac fibrosis via inhibition of oxidative stress.

Abstract The associations of blood pressure components with cardiovascular risks and death remain unclear, and the definition of wide pulse pressure (PP) is still controversial. Using data from 1257 participants without a history of cardiovascular disease, who were followed for 4.84 years, we performed multivariable Cox regression analyses to assess how systolic blood pressure (SBP), diastolic blood pressure (DBP), and PP contribute to risks of cardiovascular events and all‐cause death. Among all participants, SBP and PP were significantly associated with the risks of cardiovascular events and all‐cause death (all p < .05). DBP was not significantly associated with the risk of all‐cause death; rather, it was only associated with a marginally significant 1% increased risk for cardiovascular events (p = 0.051). 232Th/233U fuel cycle is an alternate candidate for future nuclear energy. Neutron-induced fission cross section of 232Th is one of the important nuclear data if using thorium as the fuel in the future. 232Th(n, f) cross sections from 1 to 300 MeV were measured at China Spallation Neutron Source (CSNS) Back-streaming neutron facility (Back-n) relative to 235U(n, f) and n-p scattering. A fast ionization chamber for fission cross section measurement (FIXM) and a proton recoil telescope (PRT) were used to perform the measurement. The neutron energy in this measurement reaches up to 300 MeV which is supposed to be the highest among the current Experimental Nuclear Reaction Data (EXFOR) library. It stands as the only experimental data in the region of 200-300 MeV in EXFOR as well. The experimental and evaluated data of 232Th(n, f) cross section above 60 MeV are scarce, the measurement data of this work will be valuable references for future evaluation in high energy. For the data below 60 MeV, most of our data are more consistent with ENDF/B-VIII.0, excepting in the region of 1-2 MeV where our data are more in favor of CENDL-3.2.

The sympathetic nervous system can contribute to the development of hypertension, but the neurogenic mechanisms involved are incompletely understood. Here the authors report that afferent nerves in the perirenal adipose tissue (PRAT) contribute to the maintenance of high blood pressure, and PRAT ablation, denervation or upregulation of calcitonin gene-related peptide reduce blood pressure in hypertensive rats.

The improved delayed detached eddy simulation method with shear stress transport model was used to analyze the evolution of vortex structure, velocity and pressure fields of swirling jet. The influence of nozzle pressure drop on vortex structure development and turbulence pulsation was investigated. The development of vortex structure could be divided into three stages: Kelvin-Helmholtz (K-H) instability, transition stage and swirling flow instability. Swirling flow could significantly enhance radial turbulence pulsation and increase diffusion angle. At the downstream of the jet flow, turbulence pulsation dissipation was the main reason for jet velocity attenuation. With the increase of pressure drop, the jet velocity, pulsation amplitude and the symmetry of velocity distribution increased correspondingly. Meanwhile the pressure pulsation along with the axis and vortex transport intensity also increased significantly. When the jet distance exceeded about 9 times the dimensionless jet distance, the impact distance of swirling jet could not be improved effectively by increasing the pressure drop. However, it could effectively increase the swirl intensity and jet diffusion angle. The swirling jet is more suitable for radial horizontal drilling with large hole size, coalbed methane horizontal well cavity completion and roadway drilling and pressure relief, etc.

PurposeThis study investigated gender differences in behavioral inhibitory control among college students under acute stress state by using event-related potential technique.MethodsAcute stress was evoked in 41 college students (22 males and 19 females) using the Trier Social Stress paradigm, and the neutral state was matched using out-of-speech reading, with subjects completing a two-choice Oddball task in each of the two states. In combination with the ERP technique, the area under the stress curve, reaction time, number of errors, and the difference waves between the two stimulus conditions in the frontal-central region N2 wave amplitude and the parietal-central region P3 wave amplitude were compared between the two groups of subjects in the stressful and neutral state.ResultsThe results revealed that the area under the stress curve was larger under the stress condition compared to the neutral condition, and the area under the stress curve was larger in females than in males. Behavioral results showed no statistically significant differences in reaction time and number of errors between the two genders in the acute stress condition. The ERP results showed that the wave amplitudes of N2 and P3 decreased significantly in both genders in the acute stress state. The decrease in N2 amplitude was greater in females during the transition from neutral to stressful condition, while the difference in P3 amplitude was not statistically significant in both genders.ConclusionThe findings suggest that evoked acute stress can promote behavioral inhibitory control in both genders and that females are more sensitive to acute stress state.

IntroductionThe study assesses the moderated mediation effect of sense of hope on the mental health of secondary school students.MethodsThe Adult Dispositional Hope Scale (ADHS), Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale (CD-RISC), and the Symptom Check List 90 (SCL-90) were used to conduct a questionnaire survey on 1776 secondary school students.ResultsThe results showed that total mental health scores of secondary school students were significantly negatively correlated with sense of hope and psychological resilience; sense of hope was significantly positively correlated with psychological resilience; sense of hope significantly and positively predicted the level of mental health of secondary school students, and psychological resilience played a mediating role in it; gender plays a moderating role in the relationship between sense of hope and psychological resilience.DiscussionThe study further revealed the mechanism of the effect of sense of hope on secondary school students’ mental health, and provided suggestions for cultivating positive psychological qualities and promoting the mental health development of secondary school students.

Structural analysis and construction control of staged-construction processes are major subjects in the context of modern long-span bridges. Although the forward and backward analysis methods are able to simulate situations, their main disadvantage is that they usually apply the stage superposition principle. In the actual construction process, due to changes made to the plan, the construction process needs to be adjusted at any time, and it is difficult to implement the construction process in complete accordance with the established plan. As a result, the existing simulation method based on the incremental structural analysis of each construction stage has poor adaptability to such adjustments. In this study, considering the strong geometric nonlinear behavior of the long-span cable-stayed bridge construction process, the geometrically nonlinear mechanical equations of the staged-construction bar system structure were derived. The minimum potential energy theorem was used by introducing the concept of the stress-free-state variable of the structural elements. The equation reflects the influence of the change in the stress-free-state variables of structural elements on the completion state of the structure. From the analysis of the geometrical condition that the equilibrium equation holds, the stress-free installation condition of the closing section of the planar beam element structure was obtained. A new simulation method for long-span cable-stayed bridge construction has been proposed, which is called the stress-free-state forward analysis. This method can directly obtain the intermediate process state of cable-stayed bridge construction without performing stage-by-stage demolition calculations, and causing the internal force and deformation of the completion state to reach the design target state. This method can realize the simulation of multi-process parallel operation in construction, and solves the problem of automatic filtering of temporary loads. To illustrate the application of the method, a long-span cable-stayed bridge was analyzed.

ObjectiveTo explore the reasons of failure in a case of pulmonary tuberculosis (PTB) after 9 years systematic treatment.MethodsWe extracted the patients' treatment history, drug susceptibility testing (DST), Computed tomography (CT) images, and sequenced the isolated strains by whole gene sequencing (WGS).ResultsAlthough most results of the phenotypical DSTs were consistent with the genotype DST, the occurrence of gene resistance to amikacin (AMK), capreomycin (CAP), moxifloxacin (MFX) was earlier than the phenotypical DST. Based on the continuously reversed results of phenotypical DSTs, CT images in different stages and WGS, it can be confirmed that the patient was infected with two different strains of Mycobacterium tuberculosis (M.TB). Moreover, severe cavities may be another factor leading to treatment failure.ConclusionGiven the suggestive effect of genotype DST is earlier than the phenotypical DST, so genotype DST can play a better guiding role in patients with MDR-TB. Additionally, for patients who have not been cured for a long time, medication should be more cautious and the role of WGS in drug resistance surveillance should be fully utilized.

Continuous remote-sensing monitoring of sand in desert areas and the exploration of the spatio–temporal evolution characteristics of soil–wind erosion has an important scientific value for desertification prevention and ecological restoration. In this study, the Kubuqi Desert was selected as the study area, and the Landsat series satellite remote sensing data, supplemented by satellite remote sensing data such as GE images, SPOT-5, ZY-3, GF-1/2/6, etc., integrated object-oriented, decision tree, and auxiliary human–computer interaction interpretation methods, developed the Kubuqi Desert area dataset from 1990 to 2020, and established a soil erosion intensity database of the past 30 years based on the soil–wind erosion correction equation. The results show that the application of the training samples obtained by a high-score collaborative ground sampling to land use/cover classification in desert areas can effectively improve the efficiency of remote-sensing mapping of sand changes and the accuracy of change information identification, and the overall accuracy of the classification results is 95%. In general, the sandy area of the Kubuqi Desert area has decreased year by year, during which the mobile sand in the hinterland of the desert has expanded in a scattered distribution. The overall soil–wind erosion intensity showed a downward trend, especially since 2000; the ecological improvement trend after the implementation of desertification control projects is obvious. Changes in the sand type contributed the most to the reduction of soil–wind erosion intensity (contribution 81.14%), ecological restoration played a key role in reducing the soil–wind erosion intensity (contribution 14.42%), and the increase of forest and grass vegetation covers and agricultural oases played a positive role in solidifying the soil- and wind-proof sand fixation. The pattern of sandy land changes in desert areas is closely related to the national ecological civilization construction policy and the impact of climate change.

Magnetic element doped Cd3As2 Dirac semimetal has attracted great attention for revealing the novel quantum phenomena and infrared opto-electronic applications. In this work, the circular photogalvanic effect (CPGE) was investigated at various temperatures for the Ni-doped Cd3As2 films which were grown on GaAs(111)B substrate by molecular beam epitaxy. The CPGE current generation was found to originate from the structural symmetry breaking induced by the lattice strain and magnetic doping in the Ni-doped Cd3As2 films, similar to that in the undoped ones. However, the CPGE current generated in the Ni-doped Cd3As2 films was approximately two orders of magnitude smaller than that in the undoped one under the same experimental conditions and exhibited a complex temperature variation. While the CPGE current in the undoped film showed a general increase with rising temperature. The greatly reduced CPGE current generation efficiency and its complex variation with temperature in the Ni-doped Cd3As2 films was discussed to result from the efficient capture of photo-generated carriers by the deep-level magnetic impurity bands and enhanced momentum relaxation caused by additional strong impurity scattering when magnetic dopants were introduced.

The present study aimed to explore whether high-salt diet (HSD) could cause cardiac damage independent of blood pressure, and whether nitric oxide (NO) could alleviate high-salt-induced cardiomyocyte apoptosis and autophagy in rats. The rats received 8% HSD in vivo. H9C2 cells or primary neonatal rat cardiomyocytes (NRCM) were treated with sodium chloride (NaCl) in vitro. The levels of cleaved-caspase 3/caspase 3, cleaved-caspase 8/caspase 8, Bax/Bcl2, LC3 II/LC3 I, Beclin-1 and autophagy related 7 (ATG7) were increased in the heart of HSD rats with hypertension (HTN), and in hypertension-prone (HP) and hypertension-resistant (HR) rats. Middle and high doses (50 and 100 mM) of NaCl increased the level of cleaved-caspase 3/caspase 3, cleavedcaspase 8/caspase 8, Bax/Bcl2, LC3 II/LC3 I, Beclin-1, and ATG7 in H9C2 cells and NRCM. The endothelial NO synthase (eNOS) level was increased, but p-eNOS level was reduced in the heart of HSD rats and H9C2 cells treated with 100 mM NaCl. The level of NO was reduced in the serum and heart of HSD rats. NO donor sodium nitroprusside (SNP) reversed the increases of cleaved-caspase 3/caspase 3, cleavedcaspase 8/caspase 8, Bax/Bcl2 induced by NaCl (100 mM) in H9C2 cells and NRCM. SNP treatment attenuated the increases of cleaved-caspase 3/caspase 3, Bax/Bcl2, LC3 II/LC3 I, Beclin-1, and ATG7 in the heart, but had no effect on the blood pressure of HSD rats with HR. These results demonstrated that HSD enhanced cardiac damage independently of blood pressure. Objective To explore the association of depression, as well as untreated hypertension or diabetes with all-cause death in community-based postmenopausal women in Beijing. Methods A cohort of 863 community-based postmenopausal women with no history of cardiovascular heart disease (CHD), stroke, cancer, or dementia was investigated on 20 July–28 September 2009 at baseline. Depression was diagnosed using the 30-item Center for Epidemiologic Studies Depression (CES-D) scale with CES-D ≥ 11. Meanwhile, data on health behavior, physical comorbidity, and social support at baseline were collected. These individuals were followed up from 20 July to 30 August 2014. All-cause mortality and cause of death were surveyed. Results After a median follow-up of 4.97 years, 120 subjects died of all-cause. Twenty-four died of stroke, 19 died of myocardial infarction, 21 died of cancer. The others died of aging, infection, and accident. Depression and untreated HP were significantly associated with all-cause mortality in Cox models after full adjustment for all of the potential confounders (Depression HR: 2.16, 95%CI: 1.35–3.46; Untreated hypertension HR: 1.84, 95%CI: 1.12–3.02). However, negative correlation of untreated diabetes on all-cause mortality was observed in this population (HR: 1.36, 95%CI: 0.75–2.49). When depression was co-existing with hypertension/diabetes, the HR for mortality elevated significantly (Depression co-existing with hypertension HR = 3.87, 95% CI: 2.07–7.23; Depression co-existing with diabetes HR = 5.02, 95% CI: 1.5–16.79). Conclusions It is suggested we should take sufficient care of postmenopausal females with depression and control blood pressure and glucose more effectively. Coronary artery disease (CAD) is a cardiac disorder caused by abnormal structure or function of the coronary artery, which leads to myocardial ischemia and hypoxia. CAD is a major cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide. Although there are currently effective drug therapies, there is a pressing need to find novel molecular therapeutic targets for CAD. The development of molecular biology technology has allowed the recognition of circular RNAs (circRNAs) as a novel class of noncoding RNAs that regulate gene function. The pathological roles of circRNAs in CAD have not, however, been comprehensively summarized. In this article, we review published research linking circRNAs to CAD and summarize the regulatory roles of circRNAs in the pathogenesis of coronary atherosclerosis, myocardial infarction, ischemia/reperfusion injury, and ischemic heart failure.

During the construction, rerouting and maintenance & repairing of long-distance pipelines, the phenomenon of magnetic partial blowing often occurs at pipeline junctions, which leads to the deviation of electric arc in the process of welding operation. As a result, welding defects appear and even the welding operation cannot be carried out, so as to seriously impact the progress of the project and the essential security of the pipeline. OD 1 422 mm and X80 steel grade pipeline is used in the China-Russia Eastern Gas Pipeline Project, and the degaussing methods and degaussing devices used in the past are unable to satisfy the degaussing requirements of large diameter and high steel grade pipelines. In this paper, the applicability of different degaussing methods to the China-Russia Eastern Gas Pipeline was clarified by analyzing the generation mechanisms and influencing factors of pipeline remanence. After DC degaussing method was verified by conducting field tests, DC degaussing and DC welder degaussing were analyzed from the aspects of advantage, disadvantage and working parameters. In addition, the feasible recommendations were proposed.

Effective flange width is widely used in bridge design to consider the effect of shear lag. The simplified formula for the effective flange width of box girder bridges of variable depth in existing codes and studies may not be conservative, and accurate methods, such as the finite element method, are time-consuming. The purpose of this research is to develop a method that uses a convolutional neural network (CNN) to predict the effective width of box girder bridges of varying depths. These models have been trained, validated, and tested on datasets generated from thousands of finite element models. The lower error in the test set indicates that the CNN model can be used to predict the effective width. In addition, the impact of different architectures is also studied. The proposed method makes real-time analysis possible and has a wide range of applications in the analysis and design of box-girder bridges at different depths.

Currently, most predictions related to bridge geometry use shallow neural networks, which limit the network’s ability to fit since the input form limits the depth of the neural network. Therefore, this study proposed a new 3D representation of bridge structures. Based on the geometric parameters of the bridge structure, three 4D tensors were formed. This form of representation not only retained all geometric information but also expressed the spatial relationship of the structure. Then, this study constructed the corresponding 3D convolutional neural network and used it to estimate the frequency of the bridge. In addition, this study also developed a traditional shallow neural network for comparison. The application of 3D representation and 3D convolution could effectively reduce the prediction error. The 3D representation presented in this study could be used not only for frequency prediction but also for any prediction problems related to bridge geometry.

High-spin states in 84Rb are studied by using the 70Zn(18O, p3n)84Rb reaction at a beam energy of 75 MeV. Three high-lying negative-parity bands are established, whose level spacings are very regular, i.e., there is no signature splitting. The dipole character of the transitions of these three bands is assigned by the γ-γ directional correlations of oriented states (DCO) intensity ratios and the multipolarity M1 is suggested by analogy with multiparticle excitations in neighboring nuclei. Strong M1 and weak or no E2 transitions are observed. All these characteristic features show they are magnetic rotational bands.

Soil erosion by wind is a serious problem that threatens ecological security and damages the ecological environment, thereby hindering the sustainable development of agriculture and animal husbandry in arid and semiarid areas. Using the northern piedmont of the Yinshan Mountains in the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region of China as a study area, this study explores the spatiotemporal variation in soil loss by wind erosion and its impact on soil nutrients from 1990 to 2015. Various approaches, including remote sensing technology, the revised wind erosion equation model, the fallout cesium-137 tracing technique, and the geographic information system (GIS) spatial analysis technique, were jointly used in the present study. From 1990 to 2015, the soil loss by wind erosion obviously decreased, with a slope of −0.59 t/ha/a, in the study area. Affected by factors such as regional topography and wind direction, the wind erosion modulus is high in the northwest and low in the south and southeast of the northern piedmont of the Yinshan Mountains. The soil nutrient content decreased overall from 1990 to 2015, including a severe loss from 1990 to 2005 and a relatively low nutrient enrichment from 2005 to 2015. The decline in the sand-dust storm frequency and wind speed protected the soil from wind erosion. Implementing ecological management projects has played an important role in slowing wind erosion and enhancing the regional ability to resist wind erosion and fix sand. To improve soil quality and the regional ecological environment, ecological restoration projects should be further promoted in the study area.

To address the high rock strength and low drilling rate issues in deep oil/gas and geothermal exploitation, we performed mechanical property tests on three kinds of rock samples (granite, shale and sandstone) subjected to liquid nitrogen (LN2) cooling and conducted rock-breaking experiments using LN2 jet. Rock-breaking characteristics and mechanisms of LN2 jet, heat transfer features between LN2 and rock and thermal stress evolution in rock were analyzed. A novel high-pressure LN2 jet assisted drilling method was proposed accordingly. The study results show that LN2 thermal shock can significantly reduce uniaxial compression strength and elastic modulus of rock. Rock damage and corresponding mechanical deterioration become more pronounced with increasing rock temperature. The LN2 jet has merits of high rock-breaking efficiency and low threshold rock-breaking pressure. Rock failure under LN2 jet impact is characterized by large volume breakage and the rock-breaking performance becomes more significant with increase of rock temperature. Under the impact of LN2 jet, the damage of granite is the most remarkable among the three rock samples. Thus, this method works better for high temperature granite formations. It has a good application prospect in speeding up drilling rate in deep hot dry rock geothermal reservoirs. Objective: Obesity-related disease risks may vary depending on whether the subject has metabolically healthy obesity (MHO) or metabolically unhealthy obesity (MUO). At least 5 definitions/criteria of obesity and metabolic disorders have been documented in the literature, yielding uncertainties in a reliable international comparison of obesity phenotype prevalence. This report aims to compare differences in MHO and MUO prevalence according to the 5 most frequently used definitions. Methods: A random sample of 4,757 adults aged 35 years and older (male 51.1%) was enrolled. Obesity was defined either according to body mass index or waist circumference, and the definitions of metabolic abnormalities were derived from 5 different criteria. Results: In MHO, the highest prevalence was obtained when using the homeostasis model assessment (HOMA) criteria (13.6%), followed by the Chinese Diabetes Society (11.4%), Adult Treatment Panel III (10.3%), Wildman (5.2%), and Karelis (4.2%) criteria; however, the MUO prevalence had an opposite trend to MHO prevalence. The magnitude of differences in the age-specific prevalence of MHO and MUO varied greatly and ranked in different orders. The proportion of insulin resistance for MHO and MUO individuals differed significantly regardless of which metabolic criterion was used. Conclusion: The prevalence of MHO and MUO in the Chinese population varies according to different definitions of obesity and metabolic disorders.

The cable lifting construction method is the most widely used construction method for large-span arch bridges. The correct calculation and analysis of cable lifting construction is essential to ensure the safety and linearity in the construction of arch bridges. The existing research mainly focuses on the construction scheme and finite element analysis of cable lifting for large-span arch bridges. There is relatively little research on calculation theory, and there is no analytical method for cable lifting construction of arch bridges. To calculate and analyze cable lifting construction more quickly and accurately, based on the deformation coordination principle and suspension cable theory, a practical calculation method is proposed to calculate the load of the tower acting by a cable system in the cable lifting construction of arch bridges. A large-span arch bridge under construction was used as a case study, and the correctness of the calculation method was verified by measuring the displacements of the tower top. A brief description of the structure, verification method, and verification process is presented. The displacement results are calculated by the numerical calculation software SAP2000, the actual measured displacement data are discussed and comparatively analyzed, and the correctness and calculation accuracy of the proposed calculation method are also evaluated. The results show that the calculation method has sufficient accuracy. The tower load calculation is mainly undertaken to prepare for the analysis of the tower mechanical properties; therefore, the calculation method is applied to towers of the case engineering, and the stability, load carrying capacity, and deformation of the tower are analyzed to verify whether its mechanical properties meet the engineering requirements. The results show that steel pipe columns of the buckle tower are prone to twisting instability. The normal stress of the tower’s part of the pressurized rod or pressurized bending rod is larger. Wind cable load calculation models and tower design-related recommendations are presented in this tower analysis. The tower load calculation method and tower mechanics analysis method in this study can provide guidance for the calculation and analysis of the cable lifting construction of large-span arch bridges.

The first main and secondary collaborative Y-shaped steel box arch bridge under construction in China is a rarely seen innovative practice among bridges already built at home and abroad, which is an attractive engineering research topic in the field of advanced bridge design and construction, and the investigation of this bridge has made a groundbreaking contribution. The structure of unconventional thin-walled steel box arch ribs is very novel, abandoning the traditional two-dimensional arch rib structure form and adopting the new structural mode of single–double combination and joint working of main and secondary arches. However, for this innovative design, many technical difficulties including innovative design details, mechanical behavior of thin-walled structures and construction methods still need to be pioneeringly explored and thoroughly researched. In this paper, the innovative design concept of unconventional thin-walled arch ribs for spatial Y-shaped steel box arch bridges is described, and a comparative analysis with the corresponding conventional single arch rib structure is carried out. Due to the limitations of the common conventional arch bridge research methods, a combined global and local finite element method is used to analyze the static and dynamic properties of the structure, and the shear lag effect of the thin-walled steel box arch ribs is studied in a pioneering and exploratory approach. In addition, the stress distribution of the bifurcated section of the arch ribs and the configuration of the diaphragm are analyzed in detail to verify the reasonableness, advantage and applicability of the innovative design. The results show that the main and secondary arch collaboration Y-shaped steel box arch bridge has reasonable structure and superior mechanical properties and has a greater value for promotion The design concept and analysis method are worthy of use as a reference for the aesthetical and mechanical design of similar spatial Y-shaped arch bridges in the future.

The present study aimed to explore whether high-salt diet (HSD) could cause cardiac damage independent of blood pressure, and whether nitric oxide (NO) could alleviate high-salt–induced cardiomyocyte apoptosis and autophagy in rats. The rats received 8% HSD in vivo. H9C2 cells or primary neonatal rat cardiomyocytes (NRCM) were treated with sodium chloride (NaCl) in vitro. The levels of cleaved-caspase 3/caspase 3, cleaved-caspase 8/caspase 8, Bax/Bcl2, LC3 II/LC3 I, Beclin-1 and autophagy related 7 (ATG7) were increased in the heart of HSD rats with hypertension (HTN), and in hypertension-prone (HP) and hypertension-resistant (HR) rats. Middle and high doses (50 and 100 mM) of NaCl increased the level of cleaved-caspase 3/caspase 3, cleaved-caspase 8/caspase 8, Bax/Bcl2, LC3 II/LC3 I, Beclin-1, and ATG7 in H9C2 cells and NRCM. The endothelial NO synthase (eNOS) level was increased, but p-eNOS level was reduced in the heart of HSD rats and H9C2 cells treated with 100 mM NaCl. The level of NO was reduced in the serum and heart of HSD rats. NO donor sodium nitroprusside (SNP) reversed the increases of cleaved-caspase 3/caspase 3, cleaved-caspase 8/caspase 8, Bax/Bcl2 induced by NaCl (100 mM) in H9C2 cells and NRCM. SNP treatment attenuated the increases of cleaved-caspase 3/caspase 3, Bax/Bcl2, LC3 II/LC3 I, Beclin-1, and ATG7 in the heart, but had no effect on the blood pressure of HSD rats with HR. These results demonstrated that HSD enhanced cardiac damage independently of blood pressure. Exogenous NO supplementarity could alleviate the high salt–induced apoptosis and autophagy in cardiomyocytes.

Aim: To systematically classify the profile of the RNA m6A modification landscape of neonatal heart regeneration.Materials and Methods: Cardiomyocyte proliferation markers were detected via immunostaining. The expression of m6A modification regulators was detected using quantitative real-time PCR (qPCR) and Western blotting. Genome-wide profiling of methylation-modified transcripts was conducted with methylation-modified RNA immunoprecipitation sequencing (m6A-RIP-seq) and RNA sequencing (RNA-seq). The Gene Expression Omnibus database (GEO) dataset was used to verify the hub genes.Results: METTL3 and the level of m6A modification in total RNA was lower in P7 rat hearts than in P0 ones. In all, 1,637 methylation peaks were differentially expressed using m6A-RIP-seq, with 84 upregulated and 1,553 downregulated. Furthermore, conjoint analyses of m6A-RIP-seq, RNA-seq, and GEO data generated eight potential hub genes with differentially expressed hypermethylated or hypomethylated m6A levels.Conclusion: Our data provided novel information on m6A modification changes between Day 0 and Day 7 cardiomyocytes, which identified that increased METTL3 expression may enhance the proliferative capacity of neonatal cardiomyocytes, providing a theoretical basis for future clinical studies on the direct regulation of m6A in the proliferative capacity of cardiomyocytes.

This study aimed at exploring the gene expression and metabolites among multisite adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cells (ASCs) and investigate the metabolic pathway using a multi-omics analysis. Subcutaneous adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cells (SASCs), perirenal adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cells (PASCs), and epididymal adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cells (EASCs) were isolated from Sprague Dawley rats. RNA and metabolites were extracted and sequenced using transcriptomics and metabolomics analyses, respectively. There were 720 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) in EASCs and 688 DEGs in PASCs compared with SASCs; there were 166 unique DEGs in EASCs, 134 unique DEGs in PASCs, and 554 common DEGs between EASCs and PASCs. Furthermore, there were 226 differential metabolites in EASCs, 255 differential metabolites in PASCs, 83 unique differential metabolites in EASCs, 112 unique differential metabolites in PASCs, and 143 common differential metabolites between EASCs and PASCs. The transcriptomics and metabolomics analyses identified four hub genes, one in EASCs and three in PASCs. There are functional differences among multisite ASCs that may be related to the hub genes Atac2, Rrm1, Rrm2, and Gla. The relevant signaling pathways are the Ras signaling pathway, HIF-1 signaling pathway, and the p53 signaling pathway. In conclusion, compared with SASCs, our multi-omics analysis identified that EASCs with higher Acat2 expression may be more correlated to fat metabolism and insulin resistance, while PASCs with abnormal expression of Rrm1/2 and Gla may be more correlated with some malignant tumors and cardiac-cerebral vascular disease.

A stroke prediction model based on the Prediction for Atherosclerotic Cardiovascular Disease Risk in China (China-PAR) project was developed. We compared its predictive ability with the revised Framingham Stroke Risk Score (R-FSRS) for 5-year stroke incidence in a community cohort of Chinese adults, namely the Beijing Longitudinal Study of Aging (BLSA). Calibration, discrimination, and recalibration were used to compare the predictive ability between the two prediction models. Category-less net reclassification improvement (NRI) and integrated discrimination improvement (IDI) values were also assessed. During a mean follow-up duration of 5.1 years, 106 incidents of fatal or non-fatal strokes occurred among 1,203 participants aged 55–84 years. The R-FSRS applied to our cohort underestimated the 5-year risk for stroke in men and women. China-PAR performed better than the R-FSRS in terms of calibration (men, R-FSRS: χ2-value 144.2 [P < 0.001], China-PAR: 10.4 [P = 0.238]; women, R-FSRS: 280.1 [P < 0.001], China-PAR: 12.5 [P = 0.129]). In terms of discrimination, R-FSRS and China-PAR models performed modestly in our cohort (C-statistic 0.603 [95% CI: 0.560–0.644] for men using China-PAR and 0.568 [95% CI: 0.524–0.610] using the R-FSRS; the corresponding numbers for women were 0.602 [95% CI: 0.564–0.639] and 0.575 [95% CI: 0.537–0.613). The recalibrated China-PAR model significantly improved the discrimination in C statistics and produced higher category-less NRI and IDI for stroke incidence than the R-FSRS. Although China-PAR fairly estimated stroke risk in our cohort, it did not sufficiently identify adults at high risk of stroke. Caution would be exercised by practitioners in applying the original China-PAR to Chinese older adults. Further studies are needed to develop an adequate prediction model based on the recalibrated China-PAR or to find new risk markers which could upgrade this model.

Abstract Background Serological antibodies tests for tuberculosis (TB) are widely used in developing countries. They appear to have some advantages- faster, simple and could be used for extrapulmonary TB. However, most of current commercial TB serological tests are failed to provide sufficient sensitivity and specificity. Improved serological biomarkers were essential. In this study, we present an approach using peptide array to discover new immunodiagnostic biomarkers based on immunodominant epitopes of TB antigens. Results The Probable conserved lipoprotein LppZ, which is difficult to express and purify in vivo was selected as the model antigen. We use two-step screening for dominant epitope selection. Based on peptide array data from 170 TB patients and 41 control samples, two dominant epitopes were identified to have diagnostic value for TB patients. Truncation assay was used to identify the core reactive sequence. Peptide- based ELISA was used to evaluate the diagnostic ability of pep-LppZ-1 and pep-LppZ-13. Pep-LppZ-1 has a sensitivity of 49.2% and a specificity of 83.3% in TB diagnose. Pep-LppZ-13 has a sensitivity of 43.3% and a specificity of 88.5% in TB diagnose. Conclusions Our result demonstrated that peptide array screening would be an advantage strategy of screening TB diagnostic peptides.

Packing density has a significant influence on the outcome of ensiling forage. In this study, we aim to investigate the effect of packing density on the ensiling properties, microbiome, and in vitro digestibility of barley silages. Barley was ensiled in polyethylene drum silos (30 L) with respective densities of 600, 650, 700, and 750 kg/m3 fresh matter (FM), and stored for 60 days. The bacterial communities, fermentation quality, and in vitro digestibility were analyzed. Fresh barley had a low count of lactic acid bacteria (LAB, 104 cfu/g of FM), and Lactobacillus was nearly undetectable (3-N), ethanol, neutral detergent fiber (NDF), and acid detergent fiber (ADF) of barley silage (p < 0.05), and increased in vitro digestibility of dry matter, NDF, ADF, and DM recovery (p < 0.05). A higher packing density decreased the abundances of Enterobacter (from 47.4% to 35.4%) and Clostridium (from 13.5% to 3.8%), and increased the abundance of Lactobacillus (from 1.8% to 17.0%). Thus, packing density positively correlated with Lactobacillus (p < 0.05) but negatively correlated with Enterobacter (p < 0.05). The pH and the content of ethanol were positively correlated with Enterobacter (p < 0.05) but negatively correlated with Lactobacillus (p < 0.05). In conclusion, the density of 750 kg/m3 FM resulted in the highest silage quality of the densities tested.

Pavement crack detection is essential for safe driving. The traditional manual crack detection method is highly subjective and time-consuming. Hence, an automatic pavement crack detection system is needed to facilitate this progress. However, this is still a challenging task due to the complex topology and large noise interference of crack images. Recently, although deep learning-based technologies have achieved breakthrough progress in crack detection, there are still some challenges, such as large parameters and low detection efficiency. Besides, most deep learning-based crack detection algorithms find it difficult to establish good balance between detection accuracy and detection speed. Inspired by the latest deep learning technology in the field of image processing, this paper proposes a novel crack detection algorithm based on the deep feature aggregation network with the spatial-channel squeeze & excitation (scSE) attention mechanism module, which calls CrackDFANet. Firstly, we cut the collected crack images into 512 × 512 pixel image blocks to establish a crack dataset. Then through iterative optimization on the training and validation sets, we obtained a crack detection model with good robustness. Finally, the CrackDFANet model verified on a total of 3516 images in five datasets with different sizes and containing different noise interferences. Experimental results show that the trained CrackDFANet has strong anti-interference ability, and has better robustness and generalization ability under the interference of light interference, parking line, water stains, plant disturbance, oil stains, and shadow conditions. Furthermore, the CrackDFANet is found to be better than other state-of-the-art algorithms with more accurate detection effect and faster detection speed. Meanwhile, our algorithm model parameters and error rates are significantly reduced.

Cracks and exposed steel bars are the main factors that affect the service life of bridges. It is necessary to detect the surface damage during regular bridge inspections. Due to the complex structure of bridges, automatically detecting bridge damage is a challenging task. In the field of crack classification and segmentation, convolutional neural networks have offer advantages, but ordinary networks cannot completely solve the environmental impact problems in reality. To further overcome these problems, in this paper a new algorithm to detect surface damage called EMA-DenseNet is proposed. The main contribution of this article is to redesign the structure of the densely connected convolutional networks (DenseNet) and add the expected maximum attention (EMA) module after the last pooling layer. The EMA module is obviously helpful to the bridge damage feature extraction. Besides, we use a new loss function which considers the connectivity of pixels, it has been proved to be effective in reducing the break point of fracture prediction and improving the accuracy. To train and test the model, we captured many images from multiple bridges located in Zhejiang (China), and then built a dataset of bridge damage images. First, experiments were carried out on an open concrete crack dataset. The mean pixel accuracy (MPA), mean intersection over union (MIoU), precision and frames per second (FPS) of the EMA-DenseNet are 87.42%, 92.59%, 81.97% and 25.4, respectively. Then we also conducted experiments on a more challenging bridge damage dataset, the MIoU, where MPA, precision and FPS were 79.87%, 86.35%, 74.70% and 14.6, respectively. Compared with the current state-of-the-art algorithms, the proposed algorithm is more accurate and robust in bridge damage detection.

BACKGROUND: There is insufficient evidence to show that the guidelines' recommendations of physical activity (PA) are associated with long-term benefits in individuals with hypertension. METHODS: This prospective cohort study included UK Biobank participants with hypertension. Time spent on vigorous-intensity PA (VPA), moderate-intensity PA (MPA), and light-intensity PA (LPA) measured by wrist-worn accelerometer were extracted. The primary outcomes were major adverse cardiovascular events (including cardiovascular death, stroke, and myocardial infarction) and all-cause mortality. The secondary outcomes were cardiovascular death, myocardial infarction, and stroke, respectively. The relationships of PA with outcomes were analyzed using Cox regression models. RESULTS: This study included 49 060 eligible participants with a median follow-up of 7.0 years. MPA was inversely associated with risks of major adverse cardiovascular events and all-cause mortality. Modest amounts of LPA or VPA were likely to be more beneficial than higher amounts of either in all-cause death or cardiovascular outcomes. Compared with the least active group, 150 to 300 min/wk of MPA or more was significantly associated with decreased risk of all-cause death (by 34%-54%) and major adverse cardiovascular events (by 23%-41%), but 75 to 150 min/wk of VPA or more was associated with few further benefits, even weakening the cardiovascular benefits. CONCLUSIONS: MPA had an inverse dose-response association with the risk of all-cause mortality and cardiovascular outcomes in individuals with hypertension. Modest amounts of LPA or VPA are also beneficial, but higher amounts may be not. MPA may be the optimal PA intensity for individuals with hypertension. Further researches are required to determine whether high levels of VPA should be recommended. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In nuclear reactors, inelastic neutron scattering is a significant energy-loss mechanism which has deep impacts on designments of nuclear reactor and radiation shielding. Iron is an important material in reactor. However, for the existing nuclear data for iron, there exists an obvious divergence for the inelastic scattering cross sections and the related gamma production sections. Therefore the precise measurements are urgently needed for satisfying the demanding to design new nuclear reactors (fast reactors), Accelerator Driven Subcritical System (ADS), and other nuclear apparatus. In this paper, we report a new system with an array of HPGe detectors, electronics and acquisition system. Experiments had been carried out on three neutron facilities.
