Abstract

The nearby radio galaxy M87 is a very high-energy (VHE) gamma-ray emitter established by observations with ground-based gamma-ray detectors. Here we report the long-term monitoring of M87 from 2021 to 2024 with the Large High Altitude Air Shower Observatory (LHAASO). M87 has been detected by LHAASO with a statistical significance ∼ 9 σ . The observed energy spectrum extends to 20 TeV, with a possible hardening at ∼20 TeV and then a clear softening at higher energies. Assuming that the intrinsic spectrum is described by a single power law up to 20 TeV, a tight upper bound on the extragalactic background light intensity is obtained. A strong VHE flare lasting 8 days, with a rise time of ${\tau }_{r}^{\mathrm{rise}}=1.05\pm 0.49$ days and decay time of ${\tau }_{d}^{\mathrm{decay}}=2.17\pm 0.58$ days, was found in early 2022. A possible GeV flare is seen also in Fermi Large Area Telescope data during the VHE flare period. The variability time as short as 1 day seen in the LHAASO data suggests a compact emission region with a size of ∼3 × 10 ^15 δ cm ( δ being the Doppler factor of the emitting region), corresponding to a few Schwarzschild radii of the central supermassive black hole in M87. The continuous monitoring of the source reveals a duty cycle of ∼1% for VHE flares with a flux above 10 ^−11 erg cm ^−2 s ^−1 .

Abstract

The first source catalog of the Large High Altitude Air Shower Observatory (LHAASO) reported the detection of a very high energy gamma-ray source, 1LHAASO J1219+2915. This Letter presents a further detailed study of the spectral and temporal behavior of this pointlike source. The best-fit position of the TeV source (R.A. = 185.°05 ± 0.°04, decl. = 29.°25 ± 0.°03) is compatible with NGC 4278 within ∼0.°03. Variation analysis shows an indication of variability on a timescale of a few months in the TeV band, which is consistent with low-frequency observations. Based on these observations, we report the detection of TeV γ -ray emissions from this low-luminosity active galactic nucleus. The observation by LHAASO's Water Cherenkov Detector Array during the active period has a significance level of 8.8 σ with a best-fit photon spectral index Γ = 2.56 ± 0.14 and a flux f _1–10 TeV = (7.0 ± 1.1 _sta ± 0.35 _syst ) × 10 ^−13 photons cm ^−2 s ^−1 , or approximately 5% of the Crab Nebula. The discovery of VHE gamma-ray emission from NGC 4278 indicates that compact, weak radio jets can efficiently accelerate particles and emit TeV photons.

Abstract

We present the first catalog of very-high-energy and ultra-high-energy gamma-ray sources detected by the Large High Altitude Air Shower Observatory. The catalog was compiled using 508 days of data collected by the Water Cherenkov Detector Array from 2021 March to 2022 September and 933 days of data recorded by the Kilometer Squared Array from 2020 January to 2022 September. This catalog represents the main result from the most sensitive large coverage gamma-ray survey of the sky above 1 TeV, covering decl. from −20° to 80°. In total, the catalog contains 90 sources with an extended size smaller than 2° and a significance of detection at >5 σ . Based on our source association criteria, 32 new TeV sources are proposed in this study. Among the 90 sources, 43 sources are detected with ultra-high energy ( E > 100 TeV) emission at >4 σ significance level. We provide the position, extension, and spectral characteristics of all the sources in this catalog.

Abstract

Abstract The focal plane camera is the core component of the Wide Field-of-view Cherenkov/fluorescence Telescope Array (WFCTA) of the Large High-Altitude Air Shower Observatory (LHAASO). Because of the capability of working under moonlight without aging, silicon photomultipliers (SiPM) have been proven to be not only an alternative but also an improvement to conventional photomultiplier tubes (PMT) in this application. Eighteen SiPM-based cameras with square light funnels have been built for WFCTA. The telescopes have collected more than 100 million cosmic ray events and preliminary results indicate that these cameras are capable of working under moonlight. The characteristics of the light funnels and SiPMs pose challenges (e.g. dynamic range, dark count rate, assembly techniques). In this paper, we present the design features, manufacturing techniques and performances of these cameras. Finally, the test facilities, the test methods and results of SiPMs in the cameras are reported here.

Abstract

The kilometer square array (KM2A) of the large high altitude air shower observatory (LHAASO) aims at surveying the northern γ-ray sky at energies above 10 TeV with unprecedented sensitivity. γ-ray observations have long been one of the most powerful tools for dark matter searches, as, e.g., high-energy γ rays could be produced by the decays of heavy dark matter particles. In this Letter, we present the first dark matter analysis with LHAASO-KM2A, using the first 340 days of data from 1/2-KM2A and 230 days of data from 3/4-KM2A. Several regions of interest are used to search for a signal and account for the residual cosmic-ray background after γ/hadron separation. We find no excess of dark matter signals, and thus place some of the strongest γ-ray constraints on the lifetime of heavy dark matter particles with mass between 105 and 109 GeV. Our results with LHAASO are robust, and have important implications for dark matter interpretations of the diffuse astrophysical high-energy neutrino emission.

Abstract

This study assessed the prognostic value of LCR in patients with cancer-associated malnutrition (CAM). Systemic inflammatory markers, particularly the lymphocyte-to-C-reactive protein ratio (LCR), are related to the survival of patients with CAM. The present retrospective analysis based on a prospective multicenter cohort study, which involved 1,437 hospitalized patients with CAM.The area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC) of ten inflammatory indicators-LCR, advanced lung cancer inflammation index, neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio, prognostic nutritional index, modified Glasgow prognostic score, systemic immune-inflammation index, albumin-to-globulin ratio, LCR score, glucose-to-lymphocyte ratio, and platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio-were constructed. Nutritional status, blood markers, and quality of life (QoL) were evaluated within 48 h of admission. The overall survival (OS) was evaluated from September 1 to December 29, 2021.A total of 1,431 cancer patients diagnosed with malnutrition based on the Global Leadership Initiative on Malnutrition (GLIM) criteria. Male patients were 62.8% of all, and the mean age was 60.66 years old. The AUC of LCR was higher than that of other inflammatory markers. The restricted cubic spline (RCS) of the Hazard ratios (HRs) showed an inverse L-shaped relationship with LCR. In addition, patients with low LCR had significantly poorer OS than those with high LCR. The addition of LCR to the model increased the predictive ability of 1-year mortality (AUC increase of 0.036), 3-year mortality (AUC increase of 0.038), and 5-year mortality (AUC increase of 0.031).Assessing the LCR can help the medical staff identify cancer patients with nutritional deficiency at high risk of oncological outcomes and develop individualized therapeutic strategies.

Abstract

The extension of the cosmic-ray spectrum beyond 1 petaelectronvolt (PeV; 1015 electronvolts) indicates the existence of the so-called PeVatrons—cosmic-ray factories that accelerate particles to PeV energies. We need to locate and identify such objects to find the origin of Galactic cosmic rays1. The principal signature of both electron and proton PeVatrons is ultrahigh-energy (exceeding 100 TeV) γ radiation. Evidence of the presence of a proton PeVatron has been found in the Galactic Centre, according to the detection of a hard-spectrum radiation extending to 0.04 PeV (ref. 2). Although γ-rays with energies slightly higher than 0.1 PeV have been reported from a few objects in the Galactic plane3–6, unbiased identification and in-depth exploration of PeVatrons requires detection of γ-rays with energies well above 0.1 PeV. Here we report the detection of more than 530 photons at energies above 100 teraelectronvolts and up to 1.4 PeV from 12 ultrahigh-energy γ-ray sources with a statistical significance greater than seven standard deviations. Despite having several potential counterparts in their proximity, including pulsar wind nebulae, supernova remnants and star-forming regions, the PeVatrons responsible for the ultrahigh-energy γ-rays have not yet been firmly localized and identified (except for the Crab Nebula), leaving open the origin of these extreme accelerators. Observations of γ-rays with energies up to 1.4 PeV find that 12 sources in the Galaxy are PeVatrons, one of which is the Crab Nebula.

8. Knockdown of FBP1 enhances radiosensitivity in prostate cancer cells by activating autophagy

Abstract

For patients with clinically early-stage localized prostate cancer, radiotherapy is another treatment that can achieve radical treatment in addition to radical prostatectomy. Despite this, there are still a large number of patients with prostate cancer who have a biochemical recurrence after undergoing radiotherapy, or even clinical recurrence, leading to treatment failure. Although the expression of the fructose-1,6-bisphosphatase 1 (FBP1) gene has been found to be absent in various tumors and is associated with a poor prognosis in tumor patients. However, the expression and role of FBP1 in prostate cancer are not clear. The purpose of this study was to investigate the role and mechanism of FBP1 in the radiotherapy resistance of prostate cancer. By analyzing the microarray data of prostate cancer radiotherapy resistant cells and parental cells (GSE53902), we found that FBP1 expression in DU145 radiotherapy resistant cells was significantly higher than in the DU145 parental cells. In addition, we searched for the expression of FBP1 in 492 prostate cancer samples from TCGA and found that its expression in prostate cancer was significantly higher than that in normal tissues. Knockdown of FBP1 expression significantly inhibited the proliferation of prostate cancer cells, promoted DNA damage-mediated apoptosis, and enhanced the sensitivity of prostate cancer cells to radiotherapy. Further mechanism analysis revealed that FBP1 knockdown could activate autophagy mediated by the AMPK-mTOR signaling pathway, while inhibition of the AMPK-mTOR signaling pathway could reverse FBP1 knockdown-mediated autophagy and apoptosis, as well as radiosensitization. In conclusion, this study clarified that FBP1 is an oncogene in prostate cancer, and the main mechanism for knockdown of FBP1 to increase radiosensitivity is to enhance autophagy mediated by the AMPK-mTOR signaling pathway. Therefore, FBP1 may be a potential target for enhancing prostate cancer radiotherapy.

Abstract

We report the discovery of a UHE gamma-ray source, LHAASO J2108+5157, by analyzing the LHAASO-KM2A data of 308.33 live days. Significant excess of gamma-ray induced showers is observed in both energy bands of 25-100 TeV and $\gt$100 TeV with 9.5 sigma and 8.5 sigma, respectively. This source is not significantly favored as an extensive source with the angular extension smaller than the point-spread function of KM2A. The measured energy spectrum from 20 to 200 TeV can be approximately described by a power-law function with an index of -2.83$\pm$ 0.18stat. A harder spectrum is demanded at lower energies considering the flux upper limit set by Fermi-LAT observations. The position of the gamma-ray emission is correlated with a giant molecular cloud, which favors a hadronic origin. Abstract

To elucidate the role of histone deacetylase inhibitor Trichostatin A (TSA) in affecting metastasis of breast carcinoma, and its molecular mechanism.LPAR5 levels in breast carcinoma tissues and paracancerous tissues were detected by quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR), and its expression pattern was further verified in breast carcinoma cell lines. The relationship between LPAR5 and prognosis of breast carcinoma patients was analyzed. After TSA induction (100-400 nmol/L) for 6-48 h, the proliferative and migratory abilities of SKBR3 and MDA-MB-231 cells in overexpressing LPAR5 were examined by cell counting kit-8 (CCK-8), transwell and wound healing assay. By constructing a xenograft model in nude mice, the influences of TSA and LPAR5 on in vivo growth of breast carcinoma were examined.LPAR5 was upregulated in breast carcinoma samples. High level of LPAR5 predicted higher rates of lymphatic metastasis and distant metastasis, as well as lower overall survival and progression-free survival in breast carcinoma patients. LPAR5 level was dose-dependently downregulated in TSA-induced SKBR3 and MDA-MB-231 cells. In addition, TSA induction dose-dependently declined proliferative ability, and time-dependently attenuated migratory ability in breast carcinoma cells. In vivo overexpression of LPAR5 in nude mice reversed the inhibitory effect of TSA on breast carcinoma growth.TSA induction can suppress proliferative and migratory abilities in breast carcinoma by downregulating LPAR5.

Abstract

The prevalence of hepatitis E virus (HEV) in domestic swine threats the public health, due to the risk of zoonotic transmission. In this study, we investigated the prevalence and genetic features of HEV in swine, in Gansu, which is geographically an important province in China. 377 fecal samples were collected from pig farms in Gansu province of China and tested for HEV RNA by RT-PCR. The prevalence rate is about 23% in pig farms of Gansu province. By RT-nPCR, 5' and 3' RACE methods, a whole genome with 7,284 nt in length, termed as swCH189, was obtained and investigated by nucleotide, codon and amino acid usage analyses. Phylogenetic tree analysis classified swCH189 strain into genotype 4e. Although this subtype has never been reported in the local population, genotype 4 is known as zoonotic and more pathogenic than other genotypes. According to the synonymous codon usage patterns of the three open reading frames (ORFs) of swCH189, compositional constraint mainly influences usage patterns of synonymous codons with A-end, while natural selections dominate in usage patterns of synonymous codons with G, C and U-ends. Genetic diversities of each ORFs, in respect to codon and amino acid usage patterns, are closely related to other members of genotype 4 in general, but with distinct features. Thus, the prevalence rate and the genetic features of HEV determined by this study are important for the prevention of zoonotic transmission of HEV from swine to human in this region as well as in China.

Abstract

Background Ovarian pregnancy (OP) is a rare ectopic pregnancy, in which it is very difficult to achieve preoperative diagnosis. Ovarian blood supply in OP increases which will lead to intra-abdominal bleeding, hazarding women's lives. Surgical exploration should be conducted once cases of OP are suspected. Objective To investigate clinical characteristics, diagnosis, and therapy of OP. Materials and methods A retrospective study was conducted in 95 patients with OP admitted to the present hospital from January 2005 to June 2014. Results OP accounted for 1.79% of ectopic pregnancy over the same period, of which 68.4% had a history of artificial abortion, 6.3% was treated with intrauterine contraceptive device (IUD), 87.4% had abdominal pain, 84.2% had a history of menopause, and 51.6% had vaginal bleeding. All patients had no preoperative diagnosis and underwent laparoscopic wedge resection of ovary or lesionectomy and were all were cured. Conclusion Since the cause of OP is still unknown and it has no typical clinical manifestations, the present authors adopt blood P-hCG combined with B-ultrasound to improve the preoperative diagnosis. They prefer laparoscopic wedge resection of ovary or lesionectomy, which induce higher rate of intrauterine pregnancy and lower rates of ectopic pregnancy and infertility in re-pregnancy after surgery.

Abstract

A sub-array of the Large High Altitude Air Shower Observatory (LHAASO), KM2A is mainly designed to observe a large fraction of the northern sky to hunt for γ-ray sources at energies above 10 TeV. Even though the detector construction is still underway, half of the KM2A array has been operating stably since the end of 2019. In this paper, we present the KM2A data analysis pipeline and the first observation of the Crab Nebula, a standard candle in very high energy γ-ray astronomy. We detect γ-ray signals from the Crab Nebula in both energy ranges of 10 100 TeV and 100 TeV with high significance, by analyzing the KM2A data of 136 live days between December 2019 and May 2020. With the observations, we test the detector performance, including angular resolution, pointing accuracy and cosmic-ray background rejection power. The energy spectrum of the Crab Nebula in the energy range 10-250 TeV fits well with a single power-law function dN/dE = (1.13 0.05 0.08 ) 10 (E/20 TeV) cm s TeV . It is consistent with previous measurements by other experiments. This opens a new window of γ-ray astronomy above 0.1 PeV through which new ultrahigh-energy γ-ray phenomena, such as cosmic PeVatrons, might be discovered.

Abstract

Considering the continuous shortening of automobile R & D cycle, mathematical methods have been more used in automotive aerodynamic optimization design for their capability to fit the law and calculate the optimal results. In this paper, the deformation software, fluid analysis software and optimization software are connected to build an automatic aerodynamics optimization platform of automotive shape. Based on the RBF model, the automatic aerodynamic optimization for a SUV is completed with the front windshield angle, rear windshield angle, engine cover angle, approach angle and departure angle as design parameters and the drag coefficient as design objective. The drag coefficient of the optimal model is 9.40% lower than that of the initial model, and remarkable drag reduction effect is achieved.

Abstract

High accuracy tire modeling is essential to study the automotive fatigue-durability, handling-stability, and NVH performance in the virtual proving ground. Compared with other tire models, CDTire/3D can be directly used in multi-body dynamics simulation, and its linearized version can be adopted in road noise analysis. In consideration of its high generality for cost saving, CDTire/3D has an extensive engineering application prospective in the automotive industry. It is the critical technique to accomplish high-efficiency and high-precision CDTire/3D modeling by investigating the mechanical mechanism of tire and the influence of parameters on all test conditions, based on which a parameter identification strategy is conducted in this paper. The effectiveness of the strategy is verified by a tire modeling case.

Abstract

Theoretical bandgap calculation and numerical simulations were carried out in order to evaluate the shockwave resistance of the structures made of metamaterials, specifically in real applications. Assuming that the microstructures of the shockwave-resistant metamaterials are the same as that of the phononic crystals, a bandgap calculation model was constructed based on the wave function and the Bloch theory. Besides, the bandgap calculations of certain specific structures were carried out. Using the Abaqus dynamic simulation analysis software, the shockwave resistance of specific metamaterial structures and ordinary steel plates were compared and analyzed in terms of their response to stress and displacement. Consequently, the shockwave resistance and the results of bandgap calculations of the metamaterials were verified. The results showed that the bandgap model, constructed for the metamaterials, is highly accurate and the metamaterials with the structures of photonic crystal were found to be more resistant to shockwave. This investigation can provide a theoretical reference for future structural designs of shockwave-resistant metamaterials.

Abstract

This paper considers tracking of extended objects using the measurements of down-range and cross-range extent. This type of measurement can be naturally and intuitively expressed in terms of support functions. Based on support functions, we propose a general approach to model smooth shapes of objects. Another approach based on extended Gaussian image is proposed to model nonsmooth shapes such as polygons. Compared with existing approaches, a larger range of object shapes can be modeled by the proposed approaches, which have concise mathematical forms and favorable properties. Specifically for elliptical and rectangular objects, our approaches can be implemented easily utilizing simple parametric representations without the need to assume that the major axis of the object is parallel to its velocity vector. Based on these models, a Bayesian algorithm for extended object tracking is easily obtained, where the kinematic state and object extension can be jointly estimated effectively. The benefits of the proposed modeling approaches are illustrated by simulation results.

Abstract

Background: TAp63 is a tumour-suppressor protein that is often underexpressed in various types of cancer. It has been shown to activate gene transcription depending on the transcription domain and to be closely related with metastasis. In this study, we demonstrate that TAp63 suppresses metastasis in colon cancer cells through microRNA-133b. Methods: We evaluated the correlation of TAp63 and miR-133b with HT-29 and SW-620 cells and investigated the roles of TAp63 in the expression of RhoA, E-cadherin and vimentin. We further investigated the roles of TAp63-mediated invasion and migration of colon cancer cells. Results: TAp63 expression is downregulated in colon cancer, and microRNA-133b is a transcriptional target of TAp63. Furthermore, microRNA-133b is essential for the inhibitory effects of TAp63 on RhoA, E-cadherin and vimentin. Moreover, TAp63 inhibits cell migration and invasion through microRNA-133b. Correspondingly, the inhibitory effect of TAp63 on RhoA, E-cadherin, vimentin, migration and invasion can be blocked by the microRNA-133b inhibitor. Conclusions: TAp63 and microRNA-133b were able to suppress the metastasis of colon cancer. Both TAp63 and microRNA-133b may be potential biomarkers for diagnosis in colon cancer metastasis and may provide unique therapeutic targets for this common malignancy.

21. Transcriptome-based screening and the optimal reference genes for real-time quantitative PCR in Rehmannia chingii and R. henryi.

Abstract

Real time quantitative PCR (qPCR) is a powerful tool for studying the expression of specific genes. The accuracy and reliability of qPCR analysis data require the selection of reference genes with stable expression. However, the reference genes that can be used for qPCR of Rehmannia chingii and R. henryi have not yet been identified. In this study, based on the transcriptome data of R. chingii and R. henryi, we initially selected genes with relatively stable expression in different samples. We screened six candidate reference genes in R. chingii and R. henryi and calculated their expression abundance by real time qPCR. Their expression stability was evaluated by three algorithms geNorm, NormFinder, and BestKeeper. Although the results obtained by different algorithms were not completely consistent, R. chingii type 2A phosphatase activator TIP41 and R. chingii 18S ribosomal RNA had the highest expression stability in six different samples of R. chingii, and R. henryi 18S ribosomal RNA and R. henryi actin showed the most stable expression in different samples of R. henryi. Abstract

The pseudo measurement method is a main approach to equality-constrained state estimation due to its simplicity. It is, however, not popular due to possible numerical problems and increased computational complexity. The work presented here further develops the pseudo measurement method. To avoid numerical problems resulting from singular measurement noise when a matrix inverse is used, the Moore-Penrose (MP) inverse is used instead. Also, to reduce the computational load without performance loss and to simplify the analysis of this type of estimation problem, two sequential forms are obtained. They differ only in the processing order of the physical measurement and the pseudo measurement (i.e., the equality constraint). Although form 1 is the same as some existing results, form 2 is new. This motivates the discussion of processing order for this type of estimation problem, especially in the extension to the nonlinear case. It is found that under certain conditions, the use of the pseudo measurement for filtering is redundant. This differs in effect from update by the physically error-free measurement. However, if there exists model mismatch, update by the pseudo measurement is necessary and helpful. Supporting numerical examples are provided.

Abstract

A multiple-model algorithm for maneuvering target tracking is proposed. It is referred to as a second-order Markov chain (SOMC)-based interacting multiple-model (SIMM) algorithm. The target maneuver process is modeled by a SOMC to incorporate more information. SIMM adopts a merging strategy similar to that of the interacting multiple-model (IMM) algorithm, except that the one-step model transition probabilities are updated based on the SOMC. A scheme is proposed to design the transition probabilities of the SOMC for target tracking. The performance of the proposed SIMM algorithm is evaluated via several scenarios for maneuvering target tracking. Simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of SIMM compared with IMM, the second-order IMM (IMM2) algorithm, and the likely-model set (LMS) algorithm. It is shown that SIMM performs about the same as IMM2 but requires only n filters versus n2 filters in IMM2 for n models. The effectiveness and efficiency of combining SIMM and LMS for state estimation are also demonstrated in the simulation.

Abstract

MEK1/2 (mitogen-activated protein kinase 1 and 2)/ERK1/2 (extracellular signal-regulated kinase 1 and 2) is important transducers of external signals for cell growth, survival, and apoptosis in acute myeloid leukemia cells (AML). In this study, we analyzed the effect of MEK inhibitor CI-1040 on the survival of AML cells.Using ELISA and MTT we studied the cytotoxic effects of CI-1040 on AML U-937 cells. We studied the changes induced by CI-1040 on PUMA and p53 expression in U-937 cells by Western blotting assay. Moreover, we analyzed the cytotoxic effect of CI-1040 in U-937 cells with deleted PUMA, wt-p53 by wt-p53 siRNA and PUMA siRNA transfection.CI-1040 induced apoptosis and inhibited proliferation in U-937 cells in a dose and time-dependent manner. CI-1040 induced a significant increase in PUMA mRNA and protein levels. Importantly, we show that knockdown of PUMA by PUMA siRNA transfection inhibited CI-1040-induced apoptosis and proliferation inhibition in U-937 cells. Moreover, CI-1040 induced apoptosis and proliferation inhibition was irrespective of wt-P53 status.These results demonstrate that CI-1040 induce apoptosis of U-937 cells and might be a new therapeutic option for the treatment of AML.

Abstract

The etiology of Major depressive disorder (MDD) is multifactorial but the genetic risk is an important factor. Previous studies have shown a significant interaction between serotonin and brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) in brain function. The serotonin transporter protein promoter polymorphism (5-HTTLPR) and BDNF (rs6265) are two of the most studied candidate gene polymorphisms in relation to MDD. However, the effect of 5-HTTLPR-BDNF (rs6265) interaction on MDD-risk is not consistent.This study recruited 459 patients with MDD and 412 healthy volunteers in a Chinese Han population. Polymerase chain reaction (PCR)-based genotyping was used to detect polymorphisms. Logistic regression was applied to estimate the effect of polymorphisms of 5-HTTLPR, BDNF (rs6265), and their interaction.We observed a significant correlation between the heterozygous genotype of 5-HTTLPR and MDD [odds ratio (OR) = 1.42, 95% CI: 1.05~1.91; p = 0.02]. The BDNF (rs6265) polymorphism showed that there is no correlation with MDD. When interaction with BDNF was modeled, for individuals with BDNF (rs6265), genotype GG, cases in the heterozygous group had even higher odds of MDD than those in the combined homozygous group of 5-HTTLPR polymorphism (OR = 2.92, 95% CI: 1.43-5.95; p = 0.003).Our results suggested that 5-HTTLPR, may be associated with the susceptibility of MDD in an overdominant mode, and there may be a significant interaction between 5-HTTLPR and BDNF (rs6265) polymorphisms in relation to MDD.

Abstract

To retrospectively analyze the relevance between DNA topoisomerase Ⅱ alpha (TOP2A), epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) gene expression and efficacy of docetaxel plus epirubicin as neoadjuvant chemotherapy in triple negative breast cancer (TNBC) patients.A total of 53 women with triple negative breast cancer who underwent docetaxel plus epirubicin as neoadjuvant chemotherapy were included in this study. The gene detection was done in the samples before chemotherapy by DNA chip technology. The relevance between TOP2A, EGFR gene expression and efficacy, pathological complete response (pCR) rate of neoadjuvant chemotherapy were retrospectively analyzed.The high expression rate of TOP2A in all the TNBC patients was 35.8% (19/53), while the rate of EGFR was 39.6% (21/53). The overall pCR rate of TNBC patients who underwent docetaxel plus epirubicin as neoadjuvant chemotherapy was 18.9% (10/53). The pCR rate was 31.6% (6/19) in TNBC patients whose TOP2A expression was high, compared to 11.8% (4/34) in whose was low (P0.05). The pCR rate was 28.6% (6/21) in TNBC patients whose EGFR expression was high, compared to 12.5% (4/32) in whose was low (P0.05). The pCR rate was 75.0% (6/8) in TNBC patients whose TOP2A, EGFR expression were both high, and was significantly higher than that in all the TNBC patients (P0.01).Efficacy of docetaxel plus epirubicin as neoadjuvant chemotherapy in TNBC patients can be predicted by detecting TOP2A, EGFR gene expression. The result may contribute to the development of more individualized neoadjuvant chemotherapy.

Abstract

The aim of this study was to explore the expression of PI3K, AKT, and P-AKT, and to investigate the role of PI3K/AKT signaling pathway in thin endometrium. We included 40 women treated in affiliated Shenzhen Nanshan People's Hospital of Guangdong Medical University for endometrial conditions between August 2013 and January 2015, 20 with a normal endometrium, and 20 with thin endometrium. The expression of PI3K, AKT, and P-AKT was evaluated by the immunohistochemical S-P method. The expression of PI3K, AKT, and P-AKT proteins was significantly lower in the thin endometrium group than in the normal endometrium group (P < 0.05). The expression of PI3K and AKT was positively correlated with the expression of P-AKT. The expression of PI3K, AKT, and P-AKT proteins in the thin endometrium decreases during the proliferative phase, and this process could be associated with PI3K/AKT signaling.

The number of J/psi events collected with the BESIII detector at the BEPC II from June 12 to July 28, 2009 is determined to be (225.3 +/- 2.8) x 10(6) using J/psi -> inclusive events, where the uncertainty is the systematic error and the statistical one is negligible.

Abstract

A new approach to route planning for joint search and track missions by coordinated unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) is presented. The cornerstone is a novel objective function that integrates naturally and coherently the conflicting objectives of target detection, target tracking, and vehicle survivability into a single scalar index for path optimization. This objective function is the value of information gained by the mission on average in terms of a summation, where the number of terms reflects the number of targets detected while how large each term is reflects how well each detected target is tracked. The UAV following the path that maximizes this objective function is expected to gain the most valuable information by detecting the most important targets and tracking them during the most critical times. Although many optimization algorithms exist, we use a modified particle swarm optimization algorithm along with our proposed objective function to determine which trajectory is the best on the average at detecting and tracking targets. For simplicity, perfect communication with centralized fusion is assumed and the problems of false alarm, data association, and model mismatch are not considered. For analysis, we provide several simplified examples along with a more realistic simulation. Simulation results show that by adjusting the parameters of the objective function, solutions can be optimized according to the desired tradeoff between the conflicting objectives of detecting new targets and tracking previously detected targets. Our approach can also be used to update plans in real time by incorporating the information obtained up to the time (and then reusing our approach).

Abstract

The work presented here deals with estimation fusion of smoothed state estimates. Two problems of fusion for smoothing are considered: fixed point and fixed interval. Optimal linear fusion rules in the sense of the optimal weighted least squares (OWLS) and the linear minimum mean-square error (LMMSE) are obtained. These rules are in recursive forms convenient for implementation. We also propose a more practical method for real-time smoothing, which in essence is fusing smoothed and filtered estimates. Illustrative numerical results are provided to verify the performance and credibility of the fusion rules.

Abstract

Model-set design is one of the most important topics of the multiple-model (MM) approach, which is the state of the art for many estimation, control, and modeling problems. The work presented here proposes a general systematic model-set design method in the parameter space of a system based on number theoretic (NT) methods for design of statistical experiments. The system is characterized by uncertain parameters that describe the mode space, and the models used in the model set are designed to approximate the mode by minimizing distribution mismatch. Two types of F-uniform model sets that perform well are proposed: one by the NT methods, the other according to an F-centered discrepancy. In order to improve the performance of the F-uniform model sets further, two types of expected mode augmentation (EMA) are applied. Simulation examples are given and compared with results from the Monte-Carlo method to demonstrate the designs and their performance.

Abstract

The problem of distributed fusion for estimation when the cross-correlation of errors of local estimates is unavailable is addressed. We discuss a general estimation fusion approach for this problem-generalized convex combination (GCC) - and classify various GCC fusion approaches in three categories. We develop three GCC fusion algorithms for the problem under consideration. First, based on a set-theoretic formulation of the problem, we propose a relaxed Chebyshev center covariance intersection (RCC-CI) algorithm to fuse the local estimates. Second, based on an information-theoretic criterion, we develop a fast covariance intersection (IT-FCI) algorithm with weights in a closed form. The proposed RCC-CI and IT-FCI algorithms are characterized by both the local estimates and the mean-square error (MSE) matrices being taken into account. Third, to fuse incoherent local estimates, we propose a fault-tolerant GCC fusion algorithm by introducing an adaptive parameter, which can obtain robust fusion and the degree of robustness varies with that of incoherency between estimates to be fused.

Abstract

Core-shell silicone acrylic emulsions with 3-methacryloxypropyl trimethoxysilane (MPTS) in the shell were pre- pared by seeded polymerization with the assistance of polymerisable maleate surfactant (MT). Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) demonstrated the incorporation of polymerisable surfactant in copolymer. It was found that small amount of octadecyl acrylate was beneficial to emulsion stability with decreasing the particle size from 194.6 to 165.7 nm. It was also found that the particle size increased from 165.7 to 242.9 nm with the increase of MPTS concentration. Furthermore, rheo- logical measurement indicated that the emulsion was endowed with pseudoplasticity. At low shear rate, marginal reduction in viscosity was detected when MPTS concentration increased to 2%, while great increase in viscosity was observed with higher MPTS concentration, the interaction force among emulsion particles became the predominant factor instead of par- ticle size. In addition, better water resistance was observed when MT concentration was lower than 1.5%, and MPTS con- centration higher than 2%. Abstract

For single-target multisensor systems, two fusion methods are presented for distributed recursive state estimation of dynamic systems without knowledge of noise covariances. The estimator at every local sensor embeds the dynamics and the forgetting factor into the recursive least squares (RLS) method to remedy the lack of knowledge of noise statistics, developed before as the extended forgetting factor recursive least squares (EFRLS) estimator. It is proved that the two fusion methods are equivalent to the centralized EFRLS that uses all measurements from local sensors directly and their good performance is shown by simulation examples.

Abstract

Results of a round-robin test on a mini-autoclave are reported and previously proposed criteria reviewed. Criteria based upon the results for three standard materials are now put forward. These standards-based criteria, in contrast to numerical criteria, theoretically allow any laboratory to utilize the data accumulated to date, irrespective of the equipment used. The practical requirement is that adequate discrimination can be achieved. Data to assess this are given.

Abstract

The decays $J/\psi\to p\bar{p}$ and $J/\psi\to n\bar{n}$ have been investigated with a sample of 225.2 million $J/\psi$ events collected with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII $e^+e^-$ collider. The branching fractions are determined to be $\mathcal{B}(J/\psi\to p\bar{p})=(2.112\pm0.004\pm0.031)\times10^{-3}$ and $\mathcal{B}(J/\psi\to n\bar{n})=(2.07\pm0.01\pm0.17)\times10^{-3}$. Distributions of the angle $\theta$ between the proton or anti-neutron and the beam direction are well described by the form $1+\alpha\cos^2\theta$, and we find $\alpha=0.595\pm0.012\pm0.015$ for $J/\psi\to p\bar{p}$ and $\alpha=0.50\pm0.04\pm0.21$ for $J/\psi\to n\bar{n}$. Our branching-fraction results suggest a large phase angle between the strong and electromagnetic amplitudes describing the $J/\psi\to N\bar{N}$ decay.

Abstract

Based on a data sample of 106 M $\psi^{\prime}$ events collected with the BESIII detector, the decays $\psi^{\prime}\ar\gamma\chi_{c0, 2}$,$\chi_{c0, 2}\ar\gamma\gamma$ are studied to determine the two-photon widths of the $\chi_{c0, 2}$ states. The two-photon decay branching fractions are determined to be ${\cal B}(\chi_{c0}\ar\gamma\gamma) = (2.24\pm 0.19\pm 0.12\pm 0.08)\times 10^{-4}$ and ${\cal B}(\chi_{c2}\ar\gamma\gamma) = (3.21\pm 0.18\pm 0.17\pm 0.13)\times 10^{-4}$. From these, the two-photon widths are determined to be $\Gamma_{\gamma \gamma}(\chi_{c0}) = (2.33\pm0.20\pm0.13\pm0.17)$ keV, $\Gamma_{\gamma \gamma}(\chi_{c2}) = (0.63\pm0.04\pm0.04\pm0.04)$ keV, and $\cal R$ $=\Gamma_{\gamma \gamma}(\chi_{c2})/\Gamma_{\gamma \gamma}(\chi_{c0})=0.271\pm 0.029\pm 0.013\pm 0.027$, where the uncertainties are statistical, systematic, and those from the PDG ${\cal B}(\psi^{\prime}\ar\gamma\chi_{c0,2})$ and $\Gamma(\chi_{c0,2})$ errors, respectively. The ratio of the two-photon widths for helicity $\lambda=0$ and helicity $\lambda=2$ components in the decay $\chi_{c2}\ar\gamma\gamma$ is measured for the first time to be $f_{0/2} =\Gamma^{\lambda=0}_{\gamma\gamma}(\chi_{c2})/\Gamma^{\lambda=2}_{\gamma\gamma}(\chi_{c2}) = 0.00\pm0.02\pm0.02$.

Abstract

We have studied channeling effects in a cesium iodide (CsI) crystal that is similar in composition to the ones being used in a search for Weakly Interacting Massive Particles (WIMPs) dark matter candidates, and measured its energy-dependent quenching factor, the relative scintillation yield for electron and nuclear recoils. The experimental results are reproduced with a GEANT4 simulation that includes a model of the scintillation efficiency as a function of electronic stopping power. We present the measured and simulated quenching factors and the estimated effects of channeling.

Abstract

We report on a study of the process e(+)e(-) -> pi(+/-) (D (D) over bar*)(-/+) at root s = 4.26 GeV using a 525 pb(-1) data sample collected with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII storage ring. A distinct charged structure is observed in the (D (D) over bar*)(-/+) invariant mass distribution. When fitted to a mass- dependent- width Breit- Wigner line shape, the pole mass and width are determined to be M-pole (3883: 9 +/- 1.5 (stat) +/- 4.2 dsyst__ MeV= c(2) and Gamma(pole) = (24: 8 +/- 3.3 (stat) +/- 11: 0 (syst)) MeV. The mass and width of the structure, which we refer to as Z(c)(3885), are 2 sigma and 1 sigma, respectively, below those of the Z(c)(3900) -> pi(+/-) J/psi peak observed by BESIII and Belle in pi(+)pi(-) J/psi final states produced at the same center- of- mass energy. The angular distribution of the pi Z(c)(3885) system favors a J(P) = J(P) = 1(+) quantum number assignment for the structure and disfavors 1(-) or 0(-). The Born cross section times the (D (D) over bar*) branching fraction of the Z(c)(3885) is measured to be sigma(e(+)e(-) -> pi(+/-)Z(c)(3885)(-/+)) x B(Z(c)(3885)-/+ -> (D (D) over bar*)(-/+) = (83.5 +/- 6.6 (stat) +/- 22.0 (syst)) pb. Assuming the Z(c)(3885) -> (D (D) over bar*)(-/+) signal reported here and the Z(c)(3900) -> pi J/psi signal are from the same source, the partial width ratio (Gamma(Z(c)(3885) -> D (D) over bar*)/Gamma(Z(c)(3900) -> pi J/psi)) = 6.2 +/- 1.1 (stat) +/- 2.7 (syst) is determined.

Abstract

We report a measurement of the branching fraction B(D+ -> mu(+)nu(mu)) = [3.71 +/- 0.19(stat) +/- 0.06(sys)] x 10(-4) based on 2.92 fb(-1) of data accumulated at root s = 3.773 GeV with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider. This measurement, in conjunction with the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix element vertical bar V-cd vertical bar determined from a global Standard Model fit, implies a value for the weak decay constant f(D+) = (203.2 +/- 5.3 +/- 1.8) MeV. Additionally, using this branching fraction measurement together with a lattice QCD prediction for f(D+), we find vertical bar V-cd vertical bar 0.2210 +/- 0.0058 +/- 0.0047. In either case, these are the most precise results for these quantities to date.

Abstract

With data samples collected with the BESIII detector operating at the BEPCII storage ring at center-of-mass energies from 4.009 to 4.420 GeV, the process e+e-→ γX(3872) is observed for the first time with a statistical significance of 6.3σ. The measured mass of the X(3872) is (3871.9 ± 0.7s tat ± 0.2 syst) MeV/c(2), in agreement with previous measurements. Measurements of the product of the cross section σ[e+e- → γX(3872)] and the branching fraction B[X(3872)→π+π-J/ψ] at center-of-mass energies 4.009, 4.229, 4.260, and 4.360 GeV are reported. Our measurements are consistent with expectations for the radiative transition process Y(4260) → γX(3872).

Abstract

We report on a study of the process e+ e- → π± (DD*)∓ at sqrt[s] = 4.26 GeV using a 525 pb(-1) data sample collected with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII storage ring. A distinct charged structure is observed in the (DD*)∓ invariant mass distribution. When fitted to a mass-dependent-width Breit-Wigner line shape, the pole mass and width are determined to be Mpole = (3883.9±1.5(stat)±4.2(syst)) MeV/c2 and Γpole = (24.8±3.3(stat)±11.0(syst)) MeV. The mass and width of the structure, which we refer to as Zc(3885), are 2σ and 1σ, respectively, below those of the Zc(3900) → π± J/ψ peak observed by BESIII and Belle in π+ π- J/ψ final states produced at the same center-of-mass energy. The angular distribution of the πZc(3885) system favors a JP = 1+ quantum number assignment for the structure and disfavors 1- or 0-. The Born cross section times the DD* branching fraction of the Zc(3885) is measured to be σ(e+ e- → π± Zc(3885)∓)×B(Zc(3885)∓ → (DD*)∓) = (83.5±6.6(stat)±22.0(syst)) pb. Assuming the Zc(3885) → DD* signal reported here and the Zc(3900) → πJ/ψ signal are from the same source, the partial width ratio (Γ(Zc(3885) → DD*)/Γ(Zc(3900) → πJ/ψ)) = 6.2±1.1(stat)±2.7(syst) is determined.

Abstract

Theoretical design of a tracker with respect to the so-called target perceivability is presented. Basic rules and analytic formulas for the determination of tracker parameters are presented for making better tracking decisions (i.e., track initiation, confirmation, and termination) toward enhancing tracking performance. Simulation results are provided that support the theoretical design and demonstrate the enhancement of the tracker in tracking performance.

Abstract

Using a sample of 1:06 X 10(8) psi(3686) events collected with the BESIII detector, we present the first observation of the decays of psi(3686) -> Lambda(Sigma) over bar (+) pi(-) + c.c. and psi(3686) -> Lambda(Sigma) over bar (-) pi(+) + c.c. The branching fractions are measured to be B(psi(3686) -> Lambda(Sigma) over bar (+) pi(-) + c.c.) = (1.40 +/- 0.03 +/- 0.13) X 10(-4) and B(psi(3686) -> Lambda (Sigma) over bar (-) pi(+) + c.c.) = (1.54 +/- 0.04 +/- 0.13) X 10(-4) where the first errors are statistical and the second ones systematic.

Abstract

We study e(+)e(-) -> pi(+) pi(-)h(c) at center-of-mass energies from 3.90 to 4.42 GeV by using data samples collected with the BESIII detector operating at the Beijing Electron Positron Collider. The Born cross sections are measured at 13 energies and are found to be of the same order of magnitude as those of e(+)e(-) -> pi(+) pi(-) J/Psi but with a different line shape. In the pi(+/-)h(c) mass spectrum, a distinct structure, referred to as Z(c)(4020) is observed at 4. 02 GeV/c(2). The Z(c)(4020) carries an electric charge and couples to charmonium. A fit to the pi(+/-)h(c) invariant mass spectrum, neglecting possible interferences, results in a mass of (4022.9 +/- 0.8 +/- 2.7) MeV/c(2) and a width of (7.9 +/- 2.7 +/- 2.6) MeV for the Z(c)(4020), where the first errors are statistical and the second systematic. The difference between the parameters of this structure and the Z(c) (4025) observed in the D*(D) over bar* final state is within 1.5 sigma, but whether they are the same state needs further investigation. No significant Z(c)(3900) signal is observed, and upper limits on the Z(c)(3900) production cross sections in pi +/- h(c) at center-of-mass energies of 4.23 and 4.26 GeVare set.

Abstract

Using a sample of 1.06 x 10(8)psi(3686) events collected with the BESIII detector at BEPCII, the decays eta(c)(2S) -> p (p) over bar and h(c) -> p (p) over bar are searched for, where eta(c)(2S) and h(c) are reconstructed in the decay chains psi(3686) -> gamma eta(c)(2S), eta(c)(2S) -> p (p) over bar and psi(3686) -> pi(0)h(c), h(c) -> p (p) over bar, respectively. No significant signals are observed. The upper limits of the product branching fractions are determined to be B(psi(3686) -> gamma eta(c)(2S)) x B(eta(c)(2S) -> p (p) over bar) pi(0)h(c)) x B(h(c) -> p ) p (J = 0, 1, 2) are also measured to be (24.5 +/- 0.8 +/- 1.3, 8.6 +/- 0.5 +/- 0.5, 8.4 +/- 0.5 +/- 0.5) x 10(-5), which are the world's most precise measurements.

Abstract

An approach to detection and diagnosis of multiple failures in a dynamic system is proposed. It is based on the interacting multiple-model (IMM) estimation algorithm, which is one of the most cost-effective adaptive estimation techniques for systems involving structural as well as parametric changes. The proposed approach provides an integrated framework for fault detection, diagnosis, and state estimation. It is able to detect and isolate multiple faults substantially more quickly and more reliably than many existing approaches. Its superiority is illustrated in two aircraft examples for single and double faults of both sensors and actuators, in the forms of "total", "partial", and simultaneous failures. Both deterministic and random fault scenarios are designed and used for testing and comparing the performance fairly. Some new performance indices are presented. The robustness of the proposed approach to the design of model transition probabilities, fault modeling errors, and the uncertainties of noise statistics are also evaluated.

Abstract

TAp63 is a tumour-suppressor protein that is often underexpressed in various types of cancer. It has been shown to activate gene transcription depending on the transcription domain and to be closely related with metastasis. In this study, we demonstrate that TAp63 suppresses metastasis in colon cancer cells through microRNA-133b.We evaluated the correlation of TAp63 and miR-133b with HT-29 and SW-620 cells and investigated the roles of TAp63 in the expression of RhoA, E-cadherin and vimentin. We further investigated the roles of TAp63-mediated invasion and migration of colon cancer cells.TAp63 expression is downregulated in colon cancer, and microRNA-133b is a transcriptional target of TAp63. Furthermore, microRNA-133b is essential for the inhibitory effects of TAp63 on RhoA, E-cadherin and vimentin. Moreover, TAp63 inhibits cell migration and invasion through microRNA-133b. Correspondingly, the inhibitory effect of TAp63 on RhoA, E-cadherin, vimentin, migration and invasion can be blocked by the microRNA-133b inhibitor.TAp63 and microRNA-133b were able to suppress the metastasis of colon cancer. Both TAp63 and microRNA-133b may be potential biomarkers for diagnosis in colon cancer metastasis and may provide unique therapeutic targets for this common malignancy.
