The electron antinuetrino flux limits are presented for the brightest gamma-ray burst (GRB) of all time, GRB221009A, over a range of 1.8-200 MeV using the Kamioka Liquid Scintillator Anti Neutrino Detector (KamLAND). Using a variety of time windows to search for electron antineutrinos coincident with the GRB, we set an upper limit on the flux under the assumption of various neutrino source spectra. No excess was observed in any time windows ranging from seconds to days around the event trigger time. A muon-flux measurement behind the beam dump of the J-PARC Hadron Experimental Facility was performed with a compact muon detector that can be inserted into a vertical observing hole with 81 mm in diameter which was dug underground. The detector consists of 12 plastic scintillation strips with a length of 80 mm each, which are arranged with cylindrical shape and contained inside an aluminum housing with an outer diameter of 75 mm. A silicon photomultiplier is coupled to the end of each strip to collect the scintillating light. The flux of the muons penetrating the beam dump was scanned vertically at intervals of 0.5 m, showing a wide distribution with a maximum at the beam level. The muon flux was consistent with the expectation from a Monte-Carlo simulation at more than 1 m away from the beam axis, which is expected to be used for signal-loss evaluation in the future KOTO II experiment for measuring rare kaon decays. We present a search for neutrinoless double-beta ($0\nu\beta\beta$) decay of $^{136}$Xe using the full KamLAND-Zen 800 dataset with 745 kg of enriched xenon, corresponding to an exposure of $2.097$ ton yr of $^{136}$Xe. This updated search benefits from a more than twofold increase in exposure, recovery of photo-sensor gain, and reduced background from muon-induced spallation of xenon. Combining with the search in the previous KamLAND-Zen phase, we obtain a lower limit for the $0\nu\beta\beta$ decay half-life of $T_{1/2}^{0\nu} > 3.8 \times 10^{26}$ yr at 90% C.L., a factor of 1.7 improvement over the previous limit. The electronic structure of compensated antiferromagnets (CAF) has drawn attention for its ability to create large responses, reminiscent of ferromagnets and suitable for data storage and readout, despite (nearly) net-zero spontaneous magnetization. Many of the striking experimental signatures predicted for CAF, such as giant thermoelectric Nernst effects, are enhanced when two or more electronic bands are nearly degenerate in vicinity of the Fermi energy. Here, we use thermoelectric and electric transport experiments to study the electronic structure of the layered, chiral metal CoNb3S6 in its all-in-all-out CAF ground state and report near-degeneracies of electron bands at the upper and lower boundaries of the first Brillouin zone. Considering non-symmorphic spin-space group symmetries in the non-relativistic approximation for the ordered phase, these near-degeneracies are approximately protected by a lattice translation combined with spin rotation, and are vestiges of nodal planes enforced by a screw axis symmetry in the paramagnetic state. Hot spots of emergent, or fictitious, magnetic fields are formed at the slightly gapped nodal plane, generating the spontaneous Hall and Nernst effects in this CAF. Taking into account more than six hundred Wannier orbitals, our model quantitatively reproduces the observed spontaneous Nernst effect, emphasizes the role of proximate symmetries in the emergent responses of CAF, and demonstrates the promise of ab-initio search for functional responses in a wide class of materials with reconstructed unit cells due to spin or charge order.

Particle dark matter could belong to a multiplet that includes an electrically charged state. WIMP dark matter ($\chi^{0}$) accompanied by a negatively charged excited state ($\chi^{-}$) with a small mass difference (e.g. $<$ 20 MeV) can form a bound-state with a nucleus such as xenon. This bound-state formation is rare and the released energy is $\mathcal{O}(1-10$) MeV depending on the nucleus, making large liquid scintillator detectors suitable for detection. We searched for bound-state formation events with xenon in two experimental phases of the KamLAND-Zen experiment, a xenon-doped liquid scintillator detector. No statistically significant events were observed. For a benchmark parameter set of WIMP mass $m_{\chi^{0}} = 1$ TeV and mass difference $\Delta m = 17$ MeV, we set the most stringent upper limits on the recombination cross section times velocity $\langle\sigma v\rangle$ and the decay-width of $\chi^{-}$ to $9.2 \times 10^{-30}$ ${\rm cm^3/s}$ and $8.7 \times 10^{-14}$ GeV, respectively at 90% confidence level.

The Centaur (60558) Echeclus was discovered on March 03, 2000, orbiting between the orbits of Jupiter and Uranus. After exhibiting frequent outbursts, it also received a comet designation, 174P. If the ejected material can be a source of debris to form additional structures, studying the surroundings of an active body like Echeclus can provide clues about the formation scenarios of rings, jets, or dusty shells around small bodies. Stellar occultation is a handy technique for this kind of investigation, as it can, from Earth-based observations, detect small structures with low opacity around these objects. Stellar occultation by Echeclus was predicted and observed in 2019, 2020, and 2021. We obtain upper detection limits of rings with widths larger than 0.5 km and optical depth of $\tau$ = 0.02. These values are smaller than those of Chariklo's main ring; in other words, a Chariklo-like ring would have been detected. The occultation observed in 2020 provided two positive chords used to derive the triaxial dimensions of Echeclus based on a 3D model and pole orientation available in the literature. We obtained $a = 37.0\pm0.6$ km, $b = 28.4 \pm 0.5$ km, and $c= 24.9 \pm 0.4$ km, resulting in an area-equivalent radius of $30.0 \pm 0.5$ km. Using the projected limb at the occultation epoch and the available absolute magnitude ($\rm{H}_{\rm{v}} = 9.971 \pm 0.031$), we calculate an albedo of $p_{\rm{v}} = 0.050 \pm 0.003$. In recent years, coherent electrons driven by light fields have attracted significant interest in exploring novel material phases and functionalities. However, observing coherent light-field-driven electron dynamics in solids is challenging because the electrons are scattered within several ten femtoseconds in ordinary materials, and the coherence between light and electrons is disturbed. However, when we use Weyl semimetals, the electron scattering becomes relatively long (several hundred femtoseconds - several picoseconds), owing to the suppression of the back-scattering process. This study presents the light-field-driven dynamics by the THz pulse to Weyl semimetal Co3Sn2S2, where the intense THz pulse of a monocycle electric field nonlinearly generates direct current (DC) via coherent acceleration without scattering and non-adiabatic excitation (Landau-Zener Transition). In other words, the non-Ohmic current appears in the Weyl semimetal with a combination of the long relaxation time and an intense THz pulse. This nonlinear DC generation also demonstrates a Keldysh crossover from a photon picture to a light-field picture by increasing the electric field strength., Comment: 14 pages, 5 figures

Cosmic-ray muons produce various radioisotopes when passing through material. These spallation products can be backgrounds for rare event searches such as in solar neutrino, double-beta decay, and dark matter search experiments. The KamLAND-Zen experiment searches for neutrinoless double-beta decay in 745kg of xenon dissolved in liquid scintillator. The experiment includes dead-time-free electronics with a high efficiency for detecting muon-induced neutrons. The production yields of different radioisotopes are measured with a combination of delayed coincidence techniques, newly developed muon reconstruction and xenon spallation identification methods. The observed xenon spallation products are consistent with results from the FLUKA and Geant4 simulation codes.

We report a measurement of the strange axial coupling constant $g_A^s$ using atmospheric neutrino data at KamLAND. This constant is a component of the axial form factor of the neutral-current quasielastic (NCQE) interaction. The value of $g_A^s$ significantly changes the ratio of proton and neutron NCQE cross sections. KamLAND is suitable for measuring NCQE interactions as it can detect nucleon recoils with low-energy thresholds and measure neutron multiplicity with high efficiency. KamLAND data, including the information on neutron multiplicity associated with the NCQE interactions, makes it possible to measure $g_A^s$ with a suppressed dependence on the axial mass $M_A$, which has not yet been determined. For a comprehensive prediction of the neutron emission associated with neutrino interactions, we establish a simulation of particle emission via nuclear deexcitation of $^{12}$C, a process not considered in existing neutrino Monte Carlo event generators. Energy spectrum fitting for each neutron multiplicity gives $g_A^s =-0.14^{+0.25}_{-0.26}$, which is the most stringent limit obtained using NCQE interactions without $M_A$ constraints. The two-body current contribution considered in this analysis relies on a theoretically effective model and electron scattering experiments and requires future verification by direct measurements and future model improvement.

The earth's surface heat flux is 46$\pm$3 TW (terrawatts, 10$^{12}$ watts). Although many assume we know the earth's abundance and distribution of radioactive heat producing elements (i.e., U, Th, and K), estimates for the mantle's heat production varying by an order of magnitude and recent particle physics findings challenge our dominant paradigm. Geologists predict the earth's budget of radiogenic power at 20$\pm$10 TW, whereas particle physics experiments predict 15.3$^{+4.9}_{-4.9}$ TW (KamLAND, Japan) and 38.2$^{+13.6}_{-12.7}$ TW (Borexino, Italy). We welcome this opportunity to highlight the fundamentally important resource offered by the physics community and call attention to the shortcomings associated with the characterization of the geology of the earth. We review the findings from continent-based, physics experiments, the predictions from geology, and assess the degree of misfit between the physics measurements and predicted models of the continental lithosphere and underlying mantle. Because our knowledge of the continents is somewhat uncertain (7.1$^{+2.1}_{-1.6}$ TW), models for the radiogenic power in the mantle (3.5 to 32 TW) and the bulk silicate earth (crust plus mantle) continue to be uncertain by a factor of $\sim$10 and $\sim$4, respectively. Detection of a geoneutrino signal in the ocean, far from the influence of continents, offers the potential to resolve this tension. Neutrino geoscience is a powerful new tool to interrogate the composition of the continental crust and mantle and its structures.

We present the first search for the pair production of dark particles $X$ via $K_L^0\to XX$ with $X$ decaying into two photons using the data collected by the KOTO experiment. No signal was observed in the mass range of 40 - 110 MeV/c$^2$ and 210 - 240 MeV/c$^2$. This sets upper limits on the branching fractions as $\mathcal{B}(K_L^0 \to XX)$ $<$ (1-4) $\times$ 10$^{-7}$ and $\mathcal{B}(K_L^0 \to XX)$ $<$ (1-2) $\times$ 10$^{-6}$ at the 90% confidence level for the two mass regions, respectively.

The decay of the primordial isotopes $^{238}\mathrm{U}$, $^{235}\mathrm{U}$, $^{232}\mathrm{Th}$, and $^{40}\mathrm{K}$ have contributed to the terrestrial heat budget throughout the Earth's history. Hence the individual abundance of those isotopes are key parameters in reconstructing contemporary Earth model. The geoneutrinos produced by the radioactive decays of uranium and thorium have been observed with the Kamioka Liquid-Scintillator Antineutrino Detector (KamLAND). Those measurements have been improved with more than 18-year observation time, and improvements in detector background levels mainly by an 8-year almost rector-free period now permit spectroscopy with geoneutrinos. Our results yield the first constraint on both uranium and thorium heat contributions. Herein the KamLAND result is consistent with geochemical estimations based on elemental abundances of chondritic meteorites and mantle peridotites. The High-Q model is disfavored at 99.76% C.L. and a fully radiogenic model is excluded at 5.2$\sigma$ assuming a homogeneous heat producing element distribution in the mantle., Comment: 13 pages, 2 figures, accepted for publication in Geophysical Research Letters on Aug 4th, 2022

Nitrogen vacancy (NV) centers in diamond are promising systems for realizing sensitive temperature sensors. Pulsed optically detected magnetic resonance (Pulsed-ODMR) is one of the ways to measure the temperature using NV centers. However, Pulsed-ODMR requires careful calibration and strict time synchronization to control the microwave pulse, which complicates its applicability. Nonetheless, the continuous-wave optically detected magnetic resonance (CW- ODMR) in NV centers is another more advantageous way to measure temperature with NV centers, owing to its simple implementation by applying a green laser and microwave in a continuous manner. This, however, has the drawback of a lower sensitivity compared to pulsed-ODMR. Therefore, to benefit from its accessible adaptation, it is highly important to improve the sensitivity of temperature sensing with CW-ODMR. Here, we propose a novel method to measure temperature using CW-ODMR with a quantum state dressed by radio-frequency (RF) fields under transverse magnetic fields. RF fields are expected to suppress inhomogeneous broadening owing to strain variations. Experimental results confirmed that the linewidth becomes narrower in our scheme compared to the conventional one. Moreover, we estimated the sensitivity to be approximately 65.5 $\mathrm{m}\mathrm{K}/\sqrt{\mathrm{Hz}}$, which constitutes approximately seven times improvement with respect to the sensitivity of the conventional scheme., Comment: 5 pages, 5 figures

We present the results of a search for core-collapse supernova neutrinos, using long-term KamLAND data from 2002 March 9 to 2020 April 25. We focus on the electron antineutrinos emitted from supernovae in the energy range of 1.8--111 MeV. Supernovae will make a neutrino event cluster with the duration of $\sim$10 s in the KamLAND data. We find no neutrino clusters and give the upper limit on the supernova rate as to be 0.15 yr$^{-1}$ with a 90% confidence level. The detectable range, which corresponds to a >95% detection probability, is 40--59 kpc and 65--81 kpc for core-collapse supernovae and failed core-collapse supernovae, respectively. This paper proposes to convert the supernova rate obtained by the neutrino observation to the Galactic star formation rate. Assuming a modified Salpeter-type initial mass function, the upper limit on the Galactic star formation rate is <(17.5--22.7) $M_{\odot} \mathrm{yr}^{-1}$ with a 90% confidence level., Comment: 10 pages, 4 figures, accepted for publication in Astrophysical Journal

The KamLAND-Zen experiment has provided stringent constraints on the neutrinoless double-beta ($0\nu\beta\beta$) decay half-life in $^{136}$Xe using a xenon-loaded liquid scintillator. We report an improved search using an upgraded detector with almost double the amount of xenon and an ultralow radioactivity container, corresponding to an exposure of 970 kg yr of $^{136}$Xe. These new data provide valuable insight into backgrounds, especially from cosmic muon spallation of xenon, and have required the use of novel background rejection techniques. We obtain a lower limit for the $0\nu\beta\beta$ decay half-life of $T_{1/2}^{0\nu} > 2.3 \times 10^{26}$ yr at 90% C.L., corresponding to upper limits on the effective Majorana neutrino mass of 36-156 meV using commonly adopted nuclear matrix element calculations., Comment: 7 pages, 3 figures

We report the results of a search for MeV-scale astrophysical neutrinos in KamLAND presented as an excess in the number of coincident neutrino interactions associated with the publicly available high-energy neutrino datasets from the IceCube Neutrino Observatory. We find no statistically significant excess in the number of observed low-energy electron antineutrinos in KamLAND, given a coincidence time window of $\pm$500s, $\pm$1,000s, $\pm$3,600s, and $\pm$10,000s around each of the IceCube neutrinos. We use this observation to present limits from 1.8 MeV to 100 MeV on the electron antineutrino fluence, assuming a mono-energetic flux. We then compare the results to several astrophysical measurements performed by IceCube and place a limit at the 90% confidence level on the electron antineutrino isotropic thermal luminosity from the TXS 0506+056 blazar., Comment: 12 pages, 5 figures

We present the results of a time-coincident event search for low-energy electron antineutrinos in the KamLAND detector with gamma-ray bursts from the Gamma-ray Coordinates Network and Fermi Gamma-ray Burst Monitor. Using a variable coincidence time window of $\pm$500s plus the duration of each gamma-ray burst, no statistically significant excess above background is observed. We place the world's most stringent 90% confidence level upper limit on the electron antineutrino fluence below 17.5 MeV. Assuming a Fermi-Dirac neutrino energy spectrum from the gamma-ray burst source, we use the available redshift data to constrain the electron antineutrino luminosity and effective temperature., Comment: 9 pages, 3 figures

De-excitation $\gamma $ rays associated with an isomeric state of $^{186}$Ta were investigated. The isomers were produced in multinucleon transfer reactions between a $^{136}$Xe beam and a natural W target, and were collected and separated by the KEK Isotope Separation System. Two $\gamma $ transitions with energies of 161.1(2) and 186.8(1) keV associated with an isomeric decay were observed for the first time. The half-life of the isomeric state of the neutral atom $^{186 \rm m}$Ta was deduced as 17(2) s. Based on the comparison with the previous measurements of the isomeric state using the ESR storage ring at GSI Darmstadt and the coupling of angular momenta of individual particle orbitals in odd-odd nuclei, a decay scheme of $^{186 \rm m}$Ta was proposed.

We report on a search for electron antineutrinos ($\bar{\nu}_e$) from astrophysical sources in the neutrino energy range 8.3 to 30.8 MeV with the KamLAND detector. In an exposure of 6.72 kton-year of the liquid scintillator, we observe 18 candidate events via the inverse beta decay reaction. Although there is a large background uncertainty from neutral current atmospheric neutrino interactions, we find no significant excess over background model predictions. Assuming several supernova relic neutrino spectra, we give upper flux limits of 60--110 cm$^{-2}$ s$^{-1}$ (90% CL) in the analysis range and present a model-independent flux. We also set limits on the annihilation rates for light dark matter pairs to neutrino pairs. These data improves on the upper probability limit of $^{8}$B solar neutrinos converting into $\bar{\nu}_e$'s, $P_{\nu_e \rightarrow \bar{\nu}_e} < 3.5\times10^{-5}$ (90% CL) assuming an undistorted $\bar{\nu}_e$ shape. This corresponds to a solar $\bar{\nu}_e$ flux of 60 cm$^{-2}$ s$^{-1}$ (90% CL) in the analysis energy range., Comment: 21 pages, 9 figures, 4 tables, accepted for publication in Astrophysical Journal

We report the result of a search for neutrinos in coincidence with solar flares from the GOES flare database. The search was performed on a 10.8 kton-year exposure of KamLAND collected from 2002 to 2019. This large exposure allows us to explore previously unconstrained parameter space for solar flare neutrinos. We found no statistical excess of neutrinos and established 90% confidence level upper limits of $8.4 \times 10^7$ cm$^{-2}$ ($3.0 \times 10^{9}$ cm$^{-2}$) on electron anti-neutrino (electron neutrino) fluence at 20 MeV normalized to the X12 flare, assuming that the neutrino fluence is proportional to the X-ray intensity., Comment: 13 pages, 9 figures, accepted October 27, 2021

The KamLAND-Zen 800 experiment is searching for the neutrinoless double-beta decay of $^{136}$Xe by using $^{136}$Xe-loaded liquid scintillator. The liquid scintillator is enclosed inside a balloon made of thin, transparent, low-radioactivity film that we call Inner Balloon (IB). The IB, apart from guaranteeing the liquid containment, also allows to minimize the background from cosmogenic muon-spallation products and $^{8}$B solar neutrinos. Indeed these events could contribute to the total counts in the region of interest around the Q-value of the double-beta decay of $^{136}$Xe. In this paper, we present an overview of the IB and describe the various steps of its commissioning minimizing the radioactive contaminations, from the material selection, to the fabrication of the balloon and its installation inside the KamLAND detector. There are many theories where a dark matter particle is part of a multiplet with an electrically charged state. If WIMP dark matter ($\chi^{0}$) is accompanied by a charged excited state ($\chi^{-}$) separated by a small mass difference, it can form a stable bound state with a nucleus. In supersymmetric models, the $\chi^{0}$ and the $\chi^{-}$ could be the neutralino and a charged slepton, such as the neutralino-stau degenerate model. The formation binding process is expected to result in an energy deposition of {\it O}(1--10 MeV), making it suitable for detection in large liquid scintillator detectors. We describe new constraints on the bound state formation with a xenon nucleus using the KamLAND-Zen 400 Phase-II dataset. In order to enlarge the searchable parameter space, all xenon isotopes in the detector were used. For a benchmark parameter set of $m_{\chi^{0}} = 100$ GeV and $\Delta m = 10$ MeV, this study sets the most stringent upper limits on the recombination cross section $\langle\sigma v\rangle$ and the decay-width of $\chi^{-}$ of $2.0 \times 10^{-31}$ ${\rm cm^3/s}$ and $1.1 \times 10^{-18}$ GeV, respectively (90\% confidence level).

Background: The evolution of shell structure around doubly magic exotic nuclei is of great interest in nuclear physics and astrophysics. In the `southwest' region of $^{78}$Ni, the development of deformation might trigger a major shift in our understanding of explosive nucleosynthesis. To this end, new spectroscopic information on key close-lying nuclei is very valuable. Purpose: We intend to measure the isomeric and $\beta$ decay of $^{75}$Co, with one-proton and two-neutron holes relative to $^{78}$Ni, to access new nuclear structure information in $^{75}$Co and its $\beta$-decay daughters $^{75}$Ni and $^{74}$Ni. Methods: The nucleus $^{75}$Co is produced in relativistic in-flight fission reactions of $^{238}$U at the Radioactive Ion Beam Factory in the RIKEN Nishina Center. Its isomeric and $\beta$ decay are studied exploiting the BigRIPS and EURICA setups. Results: We obtain partial $\beta$-decay spectra for $^{75}$Ni and $^{74}$Ni, and report a new isomeric transition in $^{75}$Co. The energy [$E_{\gamma}=1914(2)$ keV] and half-life [$t_{1/2}=13(6)$ $\mu$s] of the delayed $\gamma$ ray lend support for the existence of a $J^{\pi}=(1/2^-)$ isomeric state at 1914(2) keV. A comparison with PFSDG-U shell-model calculations provides a good account for the observed states in $^{75}$Ni, but the first calculated $1/2^-$ level in $^{75}$Co, a prolate $K=1/2$ state, is predicted about 1 MeV below the observed $(1/2^-)$ level. Conclusions: The spherical-like structure of the lowest-lying excited states in $^{75}$Ni is proved. In the case of $^{75}$Co, the results suggest that the dominance of the spherical configurations over the deformed ones might be stronger than expected below $^{78}$Ni. We present the results of a search for MeV-scale electron antineutrino events in KamLAND in coincident with the 60 gravitational wave events/candidates reported by the LIGO/Virgo collaboration during their second and third observing runs. We find no significant coincident signals within a $\pm$ 500 s timing window from each gravitational wave and present 90% C.L. upper limits on the electron antineutrino fluence between $10^{8}$-$10^{13}\,{\mathrm cm^2}$ for neutrino energies in the energy range of 1.8-111 MeV., Comment: 11 pages, 2 figures, 2 tables, Accepted for publication in ApJ

The rare decay $K_L \!\to\! \pi^0 \nu \overline{\nu}$ was studied with the dataset taken at the J-PARC KOTO experiment in 2016, 2017, and 2018. With a single event sensitivity of $( 7.20 \pm 0.05_{\rm stat} \pm 0.66_{\rm syst} ) \times 10^{-10}$, three candidate events were observed in the signal region. After unveiling them, contaminations from $K^{\pm}$ and scattered $K_L$ decays were studied, and the total number of background events was estimated to be $1.22 \pm 0.26$. We conclude that the number of observed events is statistically consistent with the background expectation. For this dataset, we set an upper limit of $4.9 \times 10^{-9}$ on the branching fraction of $K_L \!\to\! \pi^0 \nu \overline{\nu}$ at the 90% confidence level., Comment: 6 pages, 5 figures; published version, no change in the results. Mass-separated 187Ta in a high-spin isomeric state has been produced for the first time by multi-nucleon transfer reactions, employing an argon gas stopping cell and laser ionisation. Internal gamma rays revealed a 7.3 s isomer at 1778 keV, which decays through a rotational band with perturbations associated with the approach to a prolate-oblate shape transition. Model calculations show less influence from triaxiality compared to heavier elements in the same mass region. The isomer decay reduced E2 hindrance factor of 27 supports the interpretation that axial symmetry is approximately conserved., Comment: 5 pages, 5 figures

An anapole state that breaks inversion and time reversal symmetries with preserving translation symmetry of underlying lattice has aroused great interest as a new quantum state, but only a few candidate materials have been reported. Recently, in a spin-orbit coupled Mott insulator \SIR, the emergence of a possible hidden order phase with broken inversion symmetry has been suggested at $T_{\Omega}$ above the N\'{e}el temperature by optical second harmonic generation measurements. Moreover, polarized neutron diffraction measurements revealed the broken time reversal symmetry below $T_{\Omega}$, which was supported by subsequent muon spin relaxation experiments. However, the nature of this mysterious phase remains largely elusive. Here, we investigate the hidden order phase through the combined measurements of the in-plane magnetic anisotropy with exceptionally high-precision magnetic torque and the nematic susceptibility with elastoresistance. A distinct two-fold in-plane magnetic anisotropy along the [110] Ir-O-Ir bond direction sets in below $\sim T_{\Omega}$, providing thermodynamic evidence for a nematic phase transition with broken $C_4$ rotational symmetry. However, in contrast to the even-parity nematic transition reported in other correlated electron systems, the nematic susceptibility exhibits no divergent behavior towards $T_{\Omega}$. These results provide bulk evidence for an odd-parity order parameter with broken rotational symmetry in the hidden order state. We discuss the hidden order in terms of an anapole state, in which polar toroidal moment is induced by two current loops in each IrO$_6$ octahedron of opposite chirality. Contrary to the simplest loop-current pattern previously suggested, the present results are consistent with a pattern in which the intra-unit cell loop-current flows along only one of the diagonal directions in the IrO$_4$ square., Comment: 11 pages, 10 figures

We report the first search for the $K_L \to \pi^0 \gamma$ decay, which is forbidden by Lorentz invariance, using the data from 2016 to 2018 at the J-PARC KOTO experiment. With a single event sensitivity of $(7.1\pm 0.3_{\rm stat.} \pm 1.6_{\rm syst.})\times 10^{-8}$, no candidate event was observed in the signal region. The upper limit on the branching fraction was set to be $1.7\times 10^{-7}$ at the 90\% confidence level.

The $\beta$-decay half-lives of 55 neutron-rich nuclei $^{134-139}$Sn, $^{134-142}$Sb, $^{137-144}$Te, $^{140-146}$I, $^{142-148}$Xe, $^{145-151}$Cs, $^{148-153}$Ba, $^{151-155}$La were measured at the Radioactive Isotope Beam Factory (RIBF) employing the projectile fission fragments of $^{238}$U. The nuclear level structure, which relates to deformation, has a large effect on the half-lives. The impact of newly-measured half-lives on modeling the astrophysical origin of the heavy elements is studied in the context of $r$ process nucleosynthesis. For a wide variety of astrophysical conditions, including those in which fission recycling occurs, the half-lives have an important local impact on the second ($A$ $\approx$ 130) peak.

We report growth of superconducting Sr2RuO4 films by oxide molecular beam epitaxy (MBE). Careful tuning of the Ru flux with an electron beam evaporator enables us to optimize growth conditions including the Ru/Sr flux ratio and also to investigate stoichiometry effects on the structural and transport properties. The highest onset transition temperature of about 1.1 K is observed for films grown in a slightly Ru-rich flux condition in order to suppress Ru deficiency. The realization of superconducting Sr2RuO4 films via oxide MBE opens up a new route to study the unconventional superconductivity of this material., Comment: 10 pages, 3 figures

We have experimentally studied a magnetopiezoelectric effect predicted recently for magnetic metals with low crystal symmetries. In EuMnBi2 with antiferromagnetic Mn moments at 77 K, dynamic displacements emerge along the $a$ direction upon application of ac electric fields in the $c$ direction, and increase in proportion to the applied electric fields. Such displacements are not observed along the $c$ direction of EuMnBi2 or EuZnBi2 with nonmagnetic Zn ions. As temperature increases from 77 K, the displacement signals decrease and disappear at about 200 K, above which electric conduction changes from coherent to incoherent. These results demonstrate the emergence of the magnetopiezoelectric effect in a magnetic metal lacking inversion and time-reversal symmetries.
