The article reports that pay television are seeing slower subscriber growth or even declines because of user cancellations during the recession. Liberty Media Corp. said that its Starz service saw an average subscription gain of 5% in the second quarter of 2009 compared with the year-ago period, and Encore was flat year-over-year. DirecTV Inc.'s premium-package penetration rate is down about 10 percentage points through the first half of the year, compared to the same period last year.
