Abstract

Research was conducted to examine the formation of benzocyclobutenon derivatives using intramolecular cyclizations of o-acylbenzyllithiums. The thermal isomerization of some of the benzocyclobutenol derivatives that were prepared were also investigated. Results demonstrate that the isomerization does not take place through an o-quinodimethane intermediate and that it was a concerted reaction.
