Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the brain has been implemented to evaluate multiple intracranial pathologies. Non-contrast T2-weighted images are a routinely acquired sequence in almost all neuroimaging protocols. It is not uncommon to encounter various cerebrovascular lesions incidentally on brain imaging. Neuroradiologists should evaluate the routine T2-weighted images for incidental cerebrovascular lesions, irrespective of the primary indication of the study. Vascular structures typically demonstrate a low signal flow-void on the T2-weighted images. In our experience, large cerebrovascular abnormalities are easily visible to a typical neuroradiologist. In this article, we present the spectrum of the characteristic imaging appearance of various intracranial cerebrovascular lesions on routine non-contrast T2-weighted MRI. These include aneurysm, arteriovenous malformation, arterial occlusion, capillary telangiectasia, cavernous malformation, dural arteriovenous fistula, moyamoya, proliferative angiopathy, and vein of Galen malformation. BACKGROUND: Understanding the magnitude of cancer burden attributable to potentially modifiable risk factors is crucial for development of effective prevention and mitigation strategies. We analysed results from the Global Burden of Diseases, Injuries, and Risk Factors Study (GBD) 2019 to inform cancer control planning efforts globally. METHODS: The GBD 2019 comparative risk assessment framework was used to estimate cancer burden attributable to behavioural, environmental and occupational, and metabolic risk factors. A total of 82 risk-outcome pairs were included on the basis of the World Cancer Research Fund criteria. Estimated cancer deaths and disability-adjusted life-years (DALYs) in 2019 and change in these measures between 2010 and 2019 are presented. FINDINGS: Globally, in 2019, the risk factors included in this analysis accounted for 4·45 million (95% uncertainty interval 4·01-4·94) deaths and 105 million (95·0-116) DALYs for both sexes combined, representing 44·4% (41·3-48·4) of all cancer deaths and 42·0% (39·1-45·6) of all DALYs. There were 2·88 million (2·60-3·18) risk-attributable cancer deaths in males (50·6% [47·8-54·1] of all male cancer deaths) and 1·58 million (1·36-1·84) risk-attributable cancer deaths in females (36·3% [32·5-41·3] of all female cancer deaths). The leading risk factors at the most detailed level globally for risk-attributable cancer deaths and DALYs in 2019 for both sexes combined were smoking, followed by alcohol use and high BMI. Risk-attributable cancer burden varied by world region and Socio-demographic Index (SDI), with smoking, unsafe sex, and alcohol use being the three leading risk factors for risk-attributable cancer DALYs in low SDI locations in 2019, whereas DALYs in high SDI locations mirrored the top three global risk factor rankings. From 2010 to 2019, global risk-attributable cancer deaths increased by 20·4% (12·6-28·4) and DALYs by 16·8% (8·8-25·0), with the greatest percentage increase in metabolic risks (34·7% [27·9-42·8] and 33·3% [25·8-42·0]). INTERPRETATION: The leading risk factors contributing to global cancer burden in 2019 were behavioural, whereas metabolic risk factors saw the largest increases between 2010 and 2019. Reducing exposure to these modifiable risk factors would decrease cancer mortality and DALY rates worldwide, and policies should be tailored appropriately to local cancer risk factor burden. A 30-year-old woman with idiopathic intracranial hypertension experienced worsening headaches and decreasing vision in her left eye. She underwent an uncomplicated ventriculoperitoneal shunt procedure but the following day was found to have cerebral venous sinus thrombosis. Treatment included venous sinus thrombectomy and anticoagulation. She had a favourable clinical outcome. Extensive evaluation including testing for thrombophilia was unremarkable. - Abstract
Parapharyngeal space (PPS) masses are relatively rare lesions of the head and neck, and account for 0.5–1.5% of head and neck lesions. The most common lesion to occur in the PPS is a benign salivary neoplasm, typically pleomorphic adenoma either from the deep parotid or from ectopic parotid tissue rests within the PPS. A calcified or ossified mass in this location is exceedingly rare, but a calcified variant of pleomorphic adenoma has been reported. In this study, we present a patient with a heavily calcified PPS mesenchymal chondrosarcoma with an unusual presentation. We discuss the imaging and pathologic findings followed by a review of the current literature. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
The skeleton is the third most common site for metastasis overall, after the lungs and liver. Accurate diagnosis of osseous metastasis is critical for initial staging, treatment planning, restaging, treatment monitoring, and survival prediction. Currently, 99mTc-methylene diphosphonate whole-body scanning is the cornerstone of imaging to detect osseous metastasis. Although 18F-sodium fluoride (18F-NaF) was one of the oldest medical tracers for this purpose, it was replaced by other tracers because of their better physical properties, until recently. Continued development of PET scanners has opened a new era for 18F-NaF, and given its higher sensitivity, there have been increasing applications in imaging. In this review, we will discuss the history, technical aspects, radiobiology, and biodistribution of this tracer. Finally, we compare the accuracy of 18F-NaF PET with other conventional imaging methods for detection of osseous metastasis. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Chest computed tomography (CT) plays an essential role in diagnosing coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). However, CT findings are often nonspecific among different viral pneumonia conditions. The differentiation between COVID-19 and influenza can be challenging when seasonal influenza concurs with the COVID-19 pandemic. This study was conducted to test the ability of radiomics-artificial intelligence (AI) to perform this task. Methods: In this retrospective study, chest CT images from 47 patients with COVID-19 (after February 2020) and 19 patients with H1N1 influenza (before September 2019) pneumonia were collected from three hospitals affiliated with Arak University of Medical Sciences, Arak, Iran. All pulmonary lesions were segmented on CT images. Multiple radiomics features were extracted from the lesions and used to develop support-vector machine (SVM), k-nearest neighbor (k-NN), decision tree, neural network, adaptive boosting (AdaBoost), and random forest. Results: The patients with COVID-19 and H1N1 influenza were not significantly different in age and sex (P=0.13 and 0.99, respectively). Nonetheless, the average time between initial symptoms/hospitalization and chest CT was shorter in the patients with COVID-19 (P=0.001 and 0.01, respectively). After the implementation of the inclusion and exclusion criteria, 453 pulmonary lesions were included in this study. On the harmonized features, random forest yielded the highest performance (area under the curve=0.97, sensitivity=89%, precision=90%, F1 score=89%, and classification accuracy=89%). Conclusion: In our preliminary study, radiomics feature extraction, conjoined with AI, especially random forest and neural network, appeared to yield very promising results in the differentiation between COVID-19 and H1N1 influenza on chest CT. This is an Open Access article under the CC BY 4.0 licenseBackground: Hearing loss affects access to spoken language, which can affect cognition and development, and can negatively affect social wellbeing. We present updated estimates from the Global Burden of Disease (GBD) study on the prevalence of hearing loss in 2019, as well as the condition's associated disability. Methods: We did systematic reviews of population-representative surveys on hearing loss prevalence from 1990 to 2019. We fitted nested meta-regression models for severity-specific prevalence, accounting for hearing aid coverage, cause, and the presence of tinnitus. We also forecasted the prevalence of hearing loss until 2050. Findings: An estimated 1·57 billion (95% uncertainty interval 1·51–1·64) people globally had hearing loss in 2019, accounting for one in five people (20·3% [19·5–21·1]). Of these, 403·3 million (357·3–449·5) people had hearing loss that was moderate or higher in severity after adjusting for hearing aid use, and 430·4 million (381·7–479·6) without adjustment. The largest number of people with moderate-to-complete hearing loss resided in the Western Pacific region (127·1 million people [112·3–142·6]). Of all people with a hearing impairment, 62·1% (60·2–63·9) were older than 50 years. The Healthcare Access and Quality (HAQ) Index explained 65·8% of the variation in national age-standardised rates of years lived with disability, because countries with a low HAQ Index had higher rates of years lived with disability. By 2050, a projected 2·45 billion (2·35–2·56) people will have hearing loss, a 56·1% (47·3–65·2) increase from 2019, despite stable age-standardised prevalence. Interpretation: As populations age, the number of people with hearing loss will increase. Interventions such as childhood screening, hearing aids, effective management of otitis media and meningitis, and cochlear implants have the potential to ameliorate this burden. Because the burden of moderate-to-complete hearing loss is concentrated in countries with low health-care quality and access, stronger health-care provision mechanisms are needed to reduce the burden of unaddressed hearing loss in these settings. 44. Radiomics Outperforms Clinical and Radiologic Signs in Predicting Spontaneous Basal Ganglia Hematoma Expansion: A Pilot Study.

- Abstract
Prediction of the hematoma expansion (HE) of spontaneous basal ganglia hematoma (SBH) from the first non-contrast CT can result in better management, which has the potential of improving outcomes. This study has been designed to compare the performance of "Radiomics analysis," "radiology signs," and "clinical-laboratory data" for this task. We retrospectively reviewed the electronic medical records for clinical, demographic, and laboratory data in patients with SBH. CT images were reviewed for the presence of radiologic signs, including black-hole, blend, swirl, satellite, and island signs. Radiomic features from the SBH on the first brain CT were extracted, and the most predictive features were selected. Different machine learning models were developed based on clinical, laboratory, and radiology signs and selected Radiomic features to predict hematoma expansion (HE). The dataset used for this analysis included 116 patients with SBH. Among different models and different thresholds to define hematoma expansion (10%, 20%, 25%, 33%, 40%, and 50% volume enlargement thresholds), the Random Forest based on 10 selected Radiomic features achieved the best performance (for 25% hematoma enlargement) with an area under the curve (AUC) of 0.9 on the training dataset and 0.89 on the test dataset. 45. Subcortical signal alteration of corticospinal tracts. A radiologic manifestation of ARIA: A case report.

- Abstract
Patients with Alzheimer's disease who have been given monoclonal antibodies targeting amyloid-β (Aβ) (eg, gantenerumab, donanemab, lecanemab, and aducanumab) for scientific purposes may have a spectrum of imaging findings known as amyloid-related imaging abnormalities (ARIA), shown on brain magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scans. These neuroimaging abnormalities are caused by antibody-mediated destruction of accumulated Aβ aggregates in cerebral blood vessels and brain parenchyma. ARIA may demonstrate as brain edema or sulcal effusion (ARIA-E) or as hemosiderin deposits caused by brain parenchymal or pial hemorrhage (ARIA-H). The current study explores 2 cases with interval development of FLAIR hyper signal intensity along the bilateral corticospinal tracts in the motor cortex/precentral gyri after treatment by aducanumab. We believe this manifestation is a subtype of ARIA-A that has not been explored earlier. Our first case was a 72-year-old woman with a history of HTN and kidney transplant (polycystic kidney) who presented with mild cognitive impairment with clinical findings consistent with early Alzheimer's disease. After receiving 3 doses of aducunumab and experiencing cognition improvement, she underwent a brain MRI because of dizziness and vertigo. The brain MRI demonstrated new FLAIR hyper signal intensity in subcortical regions of precentral gyri (motor cortex) symmetrically as well as trace subarachnoid hemorrhage at the vertex compatible with ARIA-E and ARIA-H. Our second case was an 85-year-old woman with a history of small lymphocytic leukemia which was treated 20 years earlier. After orthopedic surgery 2 years ago, she developed dementia with anterograde amnesia. Since then, Aricept and Namenda have been started, but there have been no improvements in her subjective condition. The initial Amyloid PET/MR imaging showed diffuse cerebral Amyloid deposition. After tolerating 6 doses of aducanumab a safety MRI revealed new bilateral symmetric FLAIR hyper signal intensity in the subcortical motor cortex. Results of our study suggest that the subcortical corticospinal tract is another hotspot for ARIA findings. Hence, these regions might be an unknown site for both the action and adverse effects of aducanumab on amyloid plaques with secondary inflammation. In addition, radiologists must take this phenomenon into the account, and be cognizant that the FLAIR hyper signal intensities should not be misinterpreted as motor neuron disease (eg, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis)., (© 2022 The Authors. - Abstract
The skeleton is the third most common site for metastasis overall, after the lungs and liver. Accurate diagnosis of osseous metastasis is critical for initial staging, treatment planning, restaging, treatment monitoring, and survival prediction. Currently,
99m Tc-methylene diphosphonate whole-body scanning is the cornerstone of imaging to detect osseous metastasis. Although18 F-sodium fluoride (18 F-NaF) was one of the oldest medical tracers for this purpose, it was replaced by other tracers because of their better physical properties, until recently. Continued development of PET scanners has opened a new era for18 F-NaF, and given its higher sensitivity, there have been increasing applications in imaging. In this review, we will discuss the history, technical aspects, radiobiology, and biodistribution of this tracer. 47. Luxury perfusion: A paradoxical finding and pitfall of CT perfusion in subacute infarction of brain.

- Abstract
In the context of recent guidelines for stroke management, application of computed tomographic perfusion (CTP) is anticipated to increase, especially within 6-24 hours after stroke onset. There are commercially available software packages to help to detect the infarct core and the penumbra, however, the results of these software are not always straightforward that might cause incorrect CTP interpretation. We present here a case of acute ischemic stroke in which the CTP software misinterpreted the results by labeling the normal hemisphere as infarction and ischemia due to luxury perfusion of the infarcted hemisphere. Awareness of laterality of the patient's symptoms and the understanding of functioning of perfusion analysis software is necessary to avoid this pitfall.
