8. Bucket-handle tear of posterior uterine cervical lip in a second-trimester unscarred uterus after use of misoprostol: A first report of two cases

Abstract

A bucket-handle tear is a laceration of either the anterior lip or the posterior lip of the cervix so that it hangs like the handle of a bucket. These cervical injuries are more common in term deliveries and are associated with various risks factors, including cervical cerclage, induction of labour, young maternal age, assisted vaginal delivery, prostaglandin use and precipitate labour. We came across two patients who experienced a bucket handle tear of the posterior lip of the cervix in second-trimester abortions due to prostaglandin E1 use. Such a case has not been reported in the literature. In this case study, we report two such cases.

Abstract

Abstract: Crystallization of cubic boron nitride (cBN) was studied by subjecting hexagonal boron nitride (hBN) to high P–T conditions in the presence of a well known catalyst namely Li3N and an ammonia containing solid compound such as hexaamine cobalt (III) chloride and ammonium fluoride. These solid compounds are known to decompose at high temperatures liberating ammonia, which is used in its supercritical state for cBN crystallization at reduced pressures. It was found that using these ammonia containing solid compounds in addition to the normal catalysts (Li3N, Mg3N2, etc.), cBN can be synthesized at pressures as low as 30 kb as compared to 60 kb required in dry conditions without using these ammonia containing solid compounds and this process seems to be very promising for synthesizing cBN at reduced pressures. Abstract

Suppressor cells in the spleens of overtly autoimmune NZB &xtimes; NZW (B/W) mice, but not age matched normal strain mice, were shown to release a small, <20,000 Dalton factor which inhibited early events in the anti-SRBC PFC response and the mitogenic response. This splenic inhibitory factor (SIF) was (i) stable on heating (56°, 30 min) and freezing (-70°); (ii) non-specific for antigen; (iii) absorbed and/or inactivated by target cells in young B/W spleen cell cultures and (iv) released gradually into the culture medium by metabolically active cells. SIF also blocked the T-cell replacing effect of allogeneic factors (TRF) in the anti-SRBC response. These observations suggest that SIF may lead to the immunodepressed state in overtly autoimmune B/W mice by preventing the activation or differentiation of lymphocytes responding to exogenous antigen.
