In this study, delay line surface acoustic wave devices were prepared using a 128° Y-cut LiNbO3 piezoelectric substrate. Pure MoS2 and composite materials of MoS2 and SiO2 with various morphologies were sprayed to form sensitive layers. By adjusting the amount of NH4OH catalyst in the precursors, the particle sizes of SiO2 nanospheres were successfully controlled at 70, 200, and 300 nm by the sol-gel method. SiO2 nanospheres were then added to the precursor for preparing rosette-shaped MoS2, and nanocomposites were synthesized by the hydrothermal method. As a result, two types of composite material were obtained, namely, the S-M structure and the M-S structure. As ammonia gas sensors, the results showed that all the sensors exhibited negative frequency shifts as the NH3 gas concentration increased. Surface area and pore size distribution analyzer (BET) analysis showed that the highest specific surface area of 115.57 m²/g occurred on the S-M structural composite material. The sensor using the S-M structural composite material has a sensitivity of 1932 Hz/ppm to NH3 gas. The sensing linearity R-squared value is approximately 0.99, with continuous dynamic sensing at NH3 gas concentrations of 5-50 ppm. Finally, we revealed that decorating MoS2 with SiO2 nanospheres can improve the adsorption of ammonia molecules and significantly enhance sensitivity. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Waste water reuse is an effective method for reducing the quantity of wastewater that enters the environment. As a result, the appropriateness was assessed in accordance with its composition and the global criteria for drinking water quality. This study aims to evaluate the quality of surface water of Brahmani River, Odisha, by adapting multivariate statistical approaches, namely Cluster Analysis (CA) and multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) methods such as Simple Additive Weighting (SAW). Again, Geographical Information System (GIS) is employed to assess the drinking water's quality in relation to its application. Around 15 physicochemical parameters, gathered from seven distinct sites, following a period of 2022 till 2024. The results showed high values of EC, SO42−, NO3−, PO43−, F− and Ca2+, in three stations, while other studied parameters are within the permissible limits defined by WHO standards. The CA three distinct classifications of sites namely, low, medium, and high, based on how comparable the various physicochemical traits and pollutant levels were throughout the sampling locations. Sites H-(4–6) were included in cluster 1, site H-(3) and (7) classified under Cluster 2 and finally, H-(1–2) indicated as Cluster 3. Thus, as stated by CA, 42.86 % of tested water samples were fall into the group of good quality and about 57.14 % of examined locations resides in the poor category of water. The findings indicate which characteristics, as determined by the CA technique, were accountable for the alteration in the water quality and raise the potential of runoff from cities, farms, and industries. Subsequently, MCDM techniques has been implemented to facilitate rapid comprehension of surface water behavior and address problems with water resource management. The obtained SAW index ranges from 0.5 to 0.94. Here, H-(1), (2), and (7) grouped as highly polluted zone, and they seemed to be connected to runoff from farms and untreated industrial and municipal trash as well as local pollution sources. From this innovative study, it is found that even though the water is fit for drinking at 3 places, it is medium to highly suitable for human consumption. Therefore, there needs to be treated in some way before being used in addition to being protected against contamination. Most often, the findings indicate that appropriate management actions are important to restore the water quality of this catchment in order to support a robust and promising aquatic ecosystem. Additionally, the significance of this restoration for objective ecological policy and decision-making processes is underscored.

In today’s dynamic, technology-driven, and diverse world of knowledge society, transport organisations should purposefully analyse and assess their operations since they often have to face problems emerging from the lack of knowledge and competencies of logistics specialists. The engineering competencies of logistics specialists are highly appreciated in transport systems. However, the selection of assessment criteria and determination of its importance is a difficult task for managers in this sector. Thus, it is reasonable to apply the multi-criteria methodologies, such as SAW, AHP, MOORA, and VIKOR, whilst determining the importance of criteria describing the competencies of logistics specialists in a transport organisation. Applying the multi-criteria methods provides prerequisites for an objective, precise, and the least time-consuming way to evaluate the engineering competencies of logistics specialists. The analysis of the results enables the most suitable decisions to utilise the significant potential of logistics specialists. The article examines the problem areas for evaluating the competencies of logistics specialists. The current paper presents the evaluation of logistics specialists’ competencies based on the methodology used to determine the importance of criteria (SAW and AHP methods). Additionally, further recommendations are suggested to effectively manage certain corrections on competencies in transport organisations under investigation.

Recent advancements in the manufacturing techniques of SAW biosensors have significantly enhanced sensor performance and reliability. These techniques not only ensure precise control over sensor dimensions and material properties but also facilitate scalable and cost-effective production processes. As a result, SAW biosensors are poised to become powerful tools for various clinical and rapid detection applications.

Multi-criteria decision making process has been one of the fastest growing areas during the last decades depending on the change in the business sector. Multi-criteria decision making is the most important branch of operation research by which people make complex decision daily life. The major steps in the decision- making approach are selecting the most preferred alternative for the decision-maker, ranking alternatives in order of importance for selection problems, and screening alternatives for the final decision. Employees are an important element of a company that determines its progress. Conventional (manual) recruitment methods are vulnerable to non-technical factors, such as frequent duplication or invalid data. In this study, simple additive weighting and profile matching are proposed to solve the employee selection problem. This study was conducted at the (UPT) Career Development and Entrepreneurship Universitas Brawijaya Malang using data collected from written test selection in 2019. The effectiveness of both methods was analyzed using confusion matrix. The SAW method provides an accuracy rate of 94.7%, a precision rate of 87.5%, Recall rate of 91.3% and F-measure rate of 89.4%. On the other hand, profile matching method obtained the Accuracy rate of 90.4%, Precision rate of 81.4%, Recall rate of 81.4% and F-measure rate of 81.4%. Thus, it can be concluded that both methods have high accuracy values accompanied by high precision values when used for the selection process. Welding processes are widely used technologies in the industrial context for creating permanent connections between mechanical components. This popularity is due to their versatility, which arises from the numerous available process variants and the multiple advantages they offer compared to other joining techniques. In the manufacturing context, where devices often operate in extreme conditions, the quality of welds becomes a critical factor in ensuring the safety and reliability of the manufactured products. Furthermore, a sound joint requires careful compliance with the increasingly stringent design specifications demanded by customers who require industry-standard conformity in order to achieve defect-free, robust, and durable welds. To address these needs and to define the optimal roadmap for the investigated process condition, an experimental investigation was conducted on the submerged arc welding process. The experimental trials involved butt joints of ASTM A516 Gr.70 carbon steel plates with different thicknesses in a flat position, utilizing a U-shaped chamfer and a multi-pass welding technique. For each weldment, the effects of the main process parameters on the qualitative characteristics of the manufactured products were evaluated from a metallurgical perspective. This evaluation included an in-depth metallographic analysis of the heat-affected zone of the carbon steel joint and involved both the measurement of the dimensions of these areas as well as the amount of ferrite and pearlite that resulted as the phases observed in the final microstructure of the steel joint following its solidification. Furthermore, the joint quality was assessed with regard to mechanical strength through hardness measurements. By analysing the experimental data, the paper provides a valuable contribution for increasing the productivity of the investigated welding process, while simultaneously meeting the specified industrial quality requirements for the products made of medium-thickness carbon steels. The structural design of prestressed arched trusses presents a complex challenge due to the need to balance multiple conflicting objectives such as structural performance, weight, and constructability. This complexity is further compounded by the interdependent nature of the structural elements, which necessitates a comprehensive optimization approach. Addressing this challenge is crucial for advancing construction practices and improving the efficiency and safety of structural designs. The integration of advanced optimization algorithms and decision-making techniques offers a promising avenue for enhancing the design process of prestressed arched trusses. This study proposes the use of three advanced multi-objective optimization algorithms: NSGA-III, CTAEA, and SMS-EMOA, to optimize the structural design of prestressed arched trusses. The performance of these algorithms was evaluated using generational distance and inverted generational distance metrics. Additionally, the non-dominated optimal designs generated by these algorithms were assessed and ranked using multiple multi-criteria decision-making techniques, including SAW, FUCA, TOPSIS, PROMETHEE, and VIKOR. This approach allowed for a robust comparison of the algorithms and provided insights into their effectiveness in balancing the different design objectives. The results of the study indicated that NSGA-III exhibited superior performance with a GD value of 0.215, reflecting a closer proximity of its solutions to the Pareto front, and an IGD value of 0.329, indicating a well-distributed set of solutions across the Pareto front. In comparison, CTAEA and SMS-EMOA showed higher GD values of 0.326 and 0.436, respectively, suggesting less convergence to the Pareto front. However, SMS-EMOA demonstrated a balanced performance in terms of constructability and structural weight, with an IGD value of 0.434. The statistical significance of these differences was confirmed by the Kruskal–Wallis test, with p-values of 2.50 × 10 − 15 for GD and 5.15 × 10 − 06 for IGD. Land suitability assessment, as an important process in modern agriculture, involves the evaluation of numerous aspects such as soil properties, climate, relief, hydrology and socio-economic aspects. The aim of this study was to evaluate the suitability of soils for wheat cultivation in the Gavshan region, Iran, as the country is facing the task of becoming self-sufficient in wheat. Various methods were used to evaluate the land, such as multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM), which is proving to be important for land use planning. MCDM and machine learning (ML) are useful for decision-making processes because they use complicated spatial data and methods that are widely available. Using a geomorphological map, seventy soil profiles were selected and described, and ten soil properties and wheat yields were determined. Three MCDM approaches, including the technique of preference ordering by similarity to the ideal solution (TOPSIS), gray relational analysis (GRA), and simple additive weighting (SAW), were used and evaluated. The criteria weights were extracted using Shannon's entropy method. Random forest (RF) model and auxiliary variables (remote sensing data, terrain data, and geomorphological maps) were used to represent the land suitability values. Spatial autocorrelation analysis as a statistical method was applied to analyze the spatial variability of the spatial data. Slope, CEC (cation exchange capacity), and OC (organic carbon) were the most important factors for wheat cultivation. The spatial autocorrelation between the key criteria (slope, CEC, and OC) and wheat yield confirmed these results. These results also showed a significant correlation between the land suitability values of TOPSIS, GRA, and SAW and wheat yield (0.74, 0.72, and 0.57, respectively). The spatial distribution of land suitability values showed that the areas classified as good according to TOPSIS and GRA were larger than those classified as moderate and weak according to the SAW approach. These results were also confirmed by the autocorrelation of the MCDM techniques with wheat yield. In addition, the RF model showed its effectiveness in processing complex spatial data and improved the accuracy of land suitability assessment. In this study, by integrating advanced MCDM techniques and ML, an applicable land evaluation approach for wheat cultivation was proposed, which can improve the accuracy of land suitability and be useful for considering sustainability principles in land management. In this study, a novel TIP–TIG (TT) automatic welding method was used to weld the girth seams of liquefied natural gas (LNG) tanks composed of 9% nickel steel. The microstructure of the joints was characterized via electron microscopy and x-ray diffraction. The tensile strength and ductility of the joints were evaluated via tensile testing. The low-temperature toughness of the joints was investigated via low-temperature impact testing at - 196 °C. This increased the toughness and strength of the TT-welded joint compared to the corresponding values of joints welded using conventional submerged arc welding (SAW). A comparison with the SAW-welded joints revealed that the TT-welded joint presented high strength and excellent low-temperature toughness, which can be primarily attributed to the low heat input. Compared with SAW, TT welding resulted in a lower joint dilution ratio, smaller heat-affected zone, and lower degree of grain coarsening. In addition to fine austenite, as the joint microstructure and several uniformly distributed carbides in the weld seam. These properties hindered the dislocation slip. However, they promoted precipitation strengthening and grain refinement and provided excellent low-temperature toughness to the TT-welded joints. Notably, TT welding does not require weld-bead cleaning between passes. Additionally, owing to improvements in the degree of automation for TT welding, the welding time can be further matched with that of SAW. TT welding with narrow-gap grooves reduces the required amount of filler metal by more than 50%. Therefore, the TT welding process is significantly advantageous and can replace SAW for girth–seam welding of LNG storage tanks. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In the present paper the humidity sensing properties of regioregular rr-P3HT (poly-3-hexylthiophene) polymer films is investigated by means of surface acoustic wave (SAW) based sensors implemented on LiNbO3 (1280 Y-X) and ST-quartz piezoelectric substrates. The polymeric layers were deposited along the SAW propagation path by spray coating method and the layers thickness was measured by atomic force microscopy (AFM) technique. The response of the SAW devices to relative humidity (rh) changes in the range ~5–60% has been investigated by measuring the SAW phase and frequency changes induced by the (rh) absorption in the rr-P3HT layer. The SAW sensor implemented onto LiNbO3 showed improved performance as the thickness of the membrane increases (from 40 to 240 nm): for 240 nm thick polymeric membrane a phase shift of about −1.2 deg and −8.2 deg was measured for the fundamental (~78 MHz operating frequency) and 3rd (~234 MHz) harmonic wave at (rh) = 60%. A thick rr-P3HT film (~600 nm) was deposited onto the quartz-based SAW sensor: the sensor showed a linear frequency shift of ~−20.5 Hz per unit (rh) changes in the ~5–~50% rh range, and a quite fast response (~5 s) even at low humidity level (~5% rh). The LiNbO3 and quartz-based sensors response was assessed by using a dual delay line system to reduce unwanted common mode signals. The simple and cheap spray coating technology for the rr-P3HT polymer films deposition, complemented with fast low level humidity detection of the tested SAW sensors (much faster than the commercially available Michell SF-52 device), highlight their potential in a low-medium range humidity sensing application. The advancement toward sustainable infrastructure presents complex multi-objective optimization (MOO) challenges. This paper expands the current understanding of design frameworks that balance cost, environmental impacts, social factors, and structural integrity. Integrating MOO with multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM), the study targets enhancements in life cycle sustainability for complex engineering projects using precast modular road frames. Three advanced evolutionary algorithms—NSGA-II, NSGA-III, and RVEA—are optimized and deployed to address sustainability objectives under performance constraints. The efficacy of these algorithms is gauged through a comparative analysis, and a robust MCDM approach is applied to nine non-dominated solutions, employing SAW, FUCA, TOPSIS, PROMETHEE, and VIKOR decision-making techniques. An entropy theory-based method ensures systematic, unbiased criteria weighting, augmenting the framework's capacity to pinpoint designs balancing life cycle sustainability. The results reveal that NSGA-III is the algorithm converging towards the most cost-effective solutions, surpassing NSGA-II and RVEA by 21.11% and 10.07%, respectively, while maintaining balanced environmental and social impacts. The RVEA achieves up to 15.94% greater environmental efficiency than its counterparts. The analysis of non-dominated solutions identifies the A 4 design, utilizing 35 MPa concrete and B500S steel, as the most sustainable alternative across 80% of decision-making algorithms. The ranking correlation coefficients above 0.94 demonstrate consistency among decision-making techniques, underscoring the robustness of the integrated MOO and MCDM framework. The results in this paper expand the understanding of the applicability of novel techniques for enhancing engineering practices and advocate for a comprehensive strategy that employs advanced MOO algorithms and MCDM to enhance sustainable infrastructure development. To reduce the negative impact on the environment, architects, designers, and construction companies need to find and apply eco-friendly and sustainable building solutions. Due to its renewable nature and numerous advantages, timber has become an attractive substitute for steel and concrete in both residential and non-residential construction projects. However, timber application in the construction of grocery stores is a relatively new concept. The purpose of this research is to propose three alternative timber-based structural systems for a grocery store in Lithuania and to select the most efficient option based on multi-criteria decision-making methods. Three alternative glued laminated timber (glulam) structural systems—the glulam column and truss system, the glulam three-hinge frame system, and the glulam column and double-tapered beam system—were designed. The systems were evaluated against ten criteria, reflecting structural properties, cost efficiency, assembling complexity, and aesthetics. Multiple-criteria assessments by the COmplex PRoportional ASsessment (COPRAS) method and simple additive weighting (SAW) method revealed that the best-performing alternative is the glulam column and double-tapered beam system due to the lower cost of load-bearing structures, the smaller quantity of required steel details and fittings, and the highest maximum utility ratio according to serviceability limit states compared to other alternatives. The latest trends in the field of the on-site detection of chemical warfare agents (CWAs) involve increasing the availability of point detectors to enhance the operational awareness of commanders and soldiers. Among the intensively developed concepts aimed at meeting these requirements, wearable detectors, gas analyzers as equipment for micro- and mini-class unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), and distributed sensor networks can be mentioned. One of the analytical techniques well suited for use in this field is surface acoustic wave sensors, which can be utilized to construct lightweight, inexpensive, and undemanding gas analyzers for detecting CWAs. This review focuses on the intensively researched and developed variant of this technique, utilizing absorptive sensor layers dedicated for nerve CWAs' detection. The paper describes the mechanism of the specific interaction occurring between the target analyte and the sensing layer, which serves as the foundation for their selective detection. The main section of this paper includes a chronological review of individual achievements in the field, largely based on the peer-reviewed scientific literature dating back to the mid-1980s to the present day. Pemilihan hotel di Kota Bandung sebagai destinasi wisata oleh konsumen seringkali menjadi proses yang kompleks. Terdapat banyak faktor yang mempengaruhi keputusan ini, seperti harga kamar, fasilitas, lokasi, dan lain-lain. Penelitian ini membahas metode kombinasi AHP dan SAW untuk pembobotan kriteria dan pemeringkatan hotel untuk memperoleh rekomendasi pemilihan hotel yang sesuai bagi konsumen. Segmen konsumen dan tipe hotel yang dikaji pada penelitian ini dibagi menjadi dua kategori, yaitu : budgetary hotel yang diperuntukkan bagi segmen back packer dan non-budgetary hotel yang diperuntukkan bagi segmen non-back packer. Proses pembobotan masing-masing kriteria menggunakan metode AHP. Selanjutnya nilai bobot tersebut digunakan untuk menghitung preferensi setiap alternatif hotel yang dikaji dalam penelitian ini dengan membangun matriks keputusan dari metode SAW. Ada 7 (tujuh) kriteria yang digunakan untuk pemeringkatan hotel yaitu : overall rating / impression, kebersihan, kenyamanan, makanan, lokasi, pelayanan dan harga sewa kamar, dimana nilai bobot / prioritas untuk masing-masing kriteria tersebut adalah 0,27; 0,10; 0,10; 0,06; 0,04; 0,16 dan 0,27. Tiga besar peringkat budgetary hotel terbaik hasil rekomendasi sistem pendukung keputusan sebagian besar ditempati oleh hotel bintang 3 yaitu Hotel A2, Hotel A9 dan Hotel A14. Sedangkan tiga besar peringkat non-budgetary hotel terbaik hasil rekomendasi sistem pendukung keputusan ditempati oleh hotel bintang 4 yaitu Hotel B2, Hotel B4 dan Hotel B15.

Choosing the right restaurant for your food is a decision that can affect your overall culinary experience. In this study, the data used is data from TripAdvisor in the form of ratings and ratings of restaurants in Lampung. The data taken is the top 5 ranking data in tripadvisor which will be an analysis in providing restaurant recommendations based on the rating data on the website. The ranking results using the SAW method Rank 1 was obtained by Square Restaurant with a final score of 0.895. The ranking results using the WP Rank 1 method were obtained by Square Restaurant with a final score of 0.203427. The ranking results using the TOPSIS method Rank 1 were obtained by Pempek 123 with a final value of 0.580511982. The results of a comparative analysis of SAW, WP, or TOPSIS depend on the complexity of the decision, user preferences, and the specific characteristics of the decision-making problem at hand. SAW lends itself to simple decision, WP provides greater flexibility on weight handling, and TOPSIS can provide more in-depth analysis by considering both positive and negative ideal matrices.

The growth of Internet of Things (IoT) systems is driven by their potential to improve efficiency, enhance decision-making, and create new business opportunities across various domains. In this paper, the main selection problems in IoT-type systems, criteria used in multi-criteria evaluation, and multi-criteria methods used for solving IoT selection problems are identified. Then, a Hybrid Group Multi-Criteria Approach for solving selection problems in IoT-type systems is proposed. The approach contains the Best Worst Method (BWM) weighting method, multi-criteria Simple Additive Weighting (SAW), Technique for Order Preference by Similarity to an Ideal Solution (TOPSIS), VIseKriterijumska Optimizacija I Kompromisno Resenje (VIKOR), and Complex Proportional Assessment Method (COPRAS), and a method that combines the solutions obtained using the four considered multi-criteria methods to obtain a single solution. The SAW, TOPSIS, VIKOR, and COPRAS methods were analyzed in relation to their advantages, disadvantages, inputs, outputs, measurement scale, type of normalization, aggregation method, parameters, complexity of implementation, and interactivity. An application of the Hybrid Group Multi-Criteria Approach for IoT platform selection and a comparison between the SAW, TOPSIS, VIKOR, and COPRAS solutions and the solution of the proposed approach is realized. The work presents the design, a 2D and 3D finite element method (FEM) simulation, analysis, and optimization of a surface acoustic wave (SAW) based gas sensor. The simulation of SAW gas sensors with and without the presence of nanorods is performed. Gas adsorption on a surface causes a change in the mass, modulus, and conductivity of the sensing layer, which can be accurately, detected using SAW-based gas sensors. The device is constructed using a YZ-cut lithium niobate as a substrate, which is covered by a 0.2 µm thick intermediate layer upon which ZnO nanorods are present operating at 4 µm wavelength. Simulations in COMSOL Multiphysics are performed using eigen frequency, time-dependent, and frequency domain analysis. The materials of the intermediate layer as well as interdigitated transducers (IDTs) and the height of the nanorods are varied for the optimization of the device. Custom electronics tailored for ultrasonic applications with four ultrasonic transmit-receive channels and a nominal 25 MHz single channel frequency were developed for ultrasound BAW and SAW biosensor uses. The designed integrated microcontroller, supported by Python with a SciPy library, and the developed system measured the time of flight (TOF) and other wave properties to characterize the acoustic properties of a bulk of the liquid in a microchannel or acoustic properties of biological species attached to an analytic surface in real time. The system can utilize both piezoelectric and capacitive micromachined ultrasound transducers. The device demonstrated a linear response to changes in water salinity. This response was primarily attributed to the time-of-flight (TOF) changes related to the varying solution density. Furthermore, real-time DNA oligonucleotide-based interactions between oligonucleotides immobilized on the device's analytical area and oligonucleotides attached to gold nanoparticles (Au NPs) in the solution were demonstrated. The biological interaction led to an exponential decrease in the acoustic interfacial wave propagating across the interface between the solution and the solid surface of the sensor, the TOF signal. This decrease was attributed to the increase in the effective density of the solution in the vicinity of the sensor's analytical area, as Au NPs modified by oligonucleotides were binding to the analytical area. The utilization of Au NPs in oligonucleotide surface binding yields a considerably stronger sensor signal than previously observed in earlier CMUT-based TOF biosensor prototypes. Decisions around distributing available funds among potential land consolidation projects require a thorough analysis in order to maximize the effects of land consolidation. In order to avoid choosing the wrong land consolidation projects, different methods can be used. Generally, there are two possible groups of methods: one based on a qualitative approach (DELPHI; SWOT) and one based on a quantitative approach (AHP, VIKOR, SAW, TOPSIS, etc.). In this research, the focus was on the sensitivity of the resulting rankings affected by varying the input data in multi-criteria analysis methods, with an emphasis on the variation in the weight and the choice of criteria. This research was motivated by the subjective character of the choice of criteria and their weighting before applying the multi-criteria analysis methods. Four methods were included (AHP, TOPSIS, VIKOR, and SAW) for the multi-criteria analysis, with three ways of defining weights (consistent, modified, or quasi-consistent and freely determined without taking consistency into account), in order to determine the influence of the different methods on the final ranking. The weights were defined only by an acceptable interval of values. The sensitivity of the methods was investigated using the differences in the obtained rankings between each method. A case study is provided on real data, and the results are discussed. The results showed a relatively small variance and possible equal rankings of projects by means of statistical analyses. Delta ferrite typically forms during single and multipass welding thermal cycle. It is known that delta ferrite affects corrosion and creep resistances, which are important to the reliability of steam turbine components. This work investigated numerically the effect of thermofluid field on delta ferrite formation during the application of multi-pass submerged arc welding (SAW) in a test coupon fabricated with a high Cr-content (up to 12% wt.) martensitic stainless steel (MSS). Welding parameters and assembly dimensions were similar to those used in the joint between blades and the spacer band for a steam turbine high-pressure module. Also, a finite element model (FEM) was applied to perform the numerical analysis of heat diffusion. The analysis considered the adjusted weld pool morphology and incorporated thermal contact resistances among weld passes with a high tendency to the chemical species concentration. The step thermal cycle induced in each weld pass was employed to estimate the heating and cooling rates at different points of the fusion zone (FZ) and the adjacent region. Enriching of alphagen elements such as Cr and Mo was responsible for eutectic delta ferrite formation in the partial melting zone (PMZ). This fact was corroborated experimentally through microscopy techniques, X-ray diffraction (DRX), and mechanical tests. The comparison between numerical and experimental results indicated that flow velocities and their behavior had the most critical effect on the element accumulation and delta ferrite formation. The mechanical characterization results demonstrated the deleterious ferrite effect on the mechanical properties of critical weld regions in the 12Cr-1Mo MSS. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The aim of this article is to identify, analyse and evaluate technologies that improve the quality of life of older people without compromising the well-being of future generations from ecological, social, ethical and other perspectives. Technologies that enhance the quality of life for older people are often referred to as gerontechnologies in the literature. The article identifies and then selects 3 gerontechnologies that can improve the quality of life of older people while remaining sustainable. Further, 42 criteria for evaluating gerontechnologies were identified. These gerontechnologies were then evaluated by potential users. A ranking of gerontechnologies was further developed. Surface acoustic waves sensors are based on piezoelectric materials. These sensors are the best choice for sensing purposes due to their unprecedented accuracy. SAW sensors are often used in biochemical sensors, drug production, chemicals agents and gas analytes as sensing devices. These systems are extremely competitive due to their compact size, high thermal efficiency, stability, and capacity to integrate wirelessly. In the past two decades, considerable research has been conducted on the manufacturing of SAW on rigid substrates. These substrates of SAW sensors preclude their use in wearable technologies. The review will cover the research conducted on flexible saw sensors to highlight limitations in this research area for future applications sensors in wearable technology. In the end, future directions and strategies have been discussed to overcome the current challenges.

Hydrogen (H2) sensors with excellent performance play an important role in the safety application of H2 energy. Among current H2 detection technologies, surface acoustic wave (SAW) based H2 sensors attract more attention due to their features of high sensitivity, fast response, mico-nano scale and excellent stability, which was composed of a SAW sensing chip and sensing materials depositing along the acoustic wave propagation path, and utilizing the coupling mechanism of force-acoustic-electric multiple physical fields. Here we review the SAW H2 sensor, focusing on the H2 sensing materials, SAW sensing mechanisms, sensing devices, sensing circuits, and development status. And prospects were made for its development trends and challenges.

The degradation of the environment in China is accelerating along with economic expansion. Adoption of renewable energy technologies (RETs) is crucial for reducing the adverse impacts of economic growth on the environment and fostering sustainable development. This study attempts to identify the green innovation drivers and sub-drivers that affect the adoption of RETs in China and provide solutions for boosting their implementation. The study prioritized the drivers, sub-drivers, and strategies of green innovation by combining the Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) and Simple Additive Weighting (SAW) methods. In the study, the triple bottom line (TBL) approach has been used to determine the economic, societal, and environmental driving forces. The study also suggests strategies for encouraging the use of RETs. The results of the AHP method revealed that economics is the most crucial driver, with a weight of 0.376, followed by environmental (0.332), and social (0.291) drivers. The findings of the SAW method indicated that government green innovation initiatives, consumer initiatives, and industry initiatives are the most significant strategies for deploying RETs in China. This study has important theoretical and practical ramifications for encouraging China to adopt RETs. The suggested approaches can help researchers, business professionals, and policymakers promote sustainable development in China.

Background: Traditionally bur has been used to carry out osteotomy. In a developing country like India, the cost of surgical treatment is the important factor in determining treatment plan. Although the use of bur is cost-effective and efficient, with the advent of newer technology, it is getting replaced with a saw. Aim: To evaluate and compare the use of reciprocating saw and bur in Le Fort I Osteotomy for superior repositioning of the maxilla. Materials and Methods: Patients referred from the Department of Orthodontics for the surgical correction of vertical maxillary excess (VME). They were divided into two groups. In group I, osteotomy was performed with Synthes Reciprocating Saw and in group II, bur was used. The parameters recorded in both the groups were time required for the completion of down-fracture, precision of the osteotomy cut (margins of the cut), and ease of superior repositioning. Data was collected from both the groups for comparison. Results: A total of 14 patients with VME were included in the study. They were divided into two groups. Seven study participants were allotted to each group. In group I, Synthes Reciprocating Saw was used while in group II, a bur was used to carry out the osteotomy cut. In group I, the average time required to complete the down-fracture of the maxilla was 3.5–4 min while in group II it was more than 8 min. The margins of the osteotomy cut were smooth and regular and there was bone-to-bone contact during superior repositioning in Group I. Conclusion: The combination of the use of a saw for inferior osteotomy and a bur for the superior cut would be more beneficial in the superior repositioning of the maxilla.

The structural design of prestressed arched trusses presents a complex challenge due to the need to balance multiple conflicting objectives such as structural performance, weight, and constructability. This complexity is further compounded by the interdependent nature of the structural elements, which necessitates a comprehensive optimization approach. Addressing this challenge is crucial for advancing construction practices and improving the efficiency and safety of structural designs. The integration of advanced optimization algorithms and decision-making techniques offers a promising avenue for enhancing the design process of prestressed arched trusses. This study proposes the use of three advanced multi-objective optimization algorithms: NSGA-III, CTAEA, and SMS-EMOA, to optimize the structural design of prestressed arched trusses. The performance of these algorithms was evaluated using generational distance and inverted generational distance metrics. Additionally, the non-dominated optimal designs generated by these algorithms were assessed and ranked using multiple multi-criteria decision-making techniques, including SAW, FUCA, TOPSIS, PROMETHEE, and VIKOR. This approach allowed for a robust comparison of the algorithms and provided insights into their effectiveness in balancing the different design objectives. The results of the study indicated that NSGA-III exhibited superior performance with a GD value of 0.215, reflecting a closer proximity of its solutions to the Pareto front, and an IGD value of 0.329, indicating a well-distributed set of solutions across the Pareto front. In comparison, CTAEA and SMS-EMOA showed higher GD values of 0.326 and 0.436, respectively, suggesting less convergence to the Pareto front. However, SMS-EMOA demonstrated a balanced performance in terms of constructability and structural weight, with an IGD value of 0.434. The statistical significance of these differences was confirmed by the Kruskal–Wallis test, with p-values of 2.50×10−15 for GD and 5.15×10−06 for IGD. These findings underscore the advantages and limitations of each algorithm, providing valuable insights for future applications in structural optimization.

Land suitability assessment, as an important process in modern agriculture, involves the evaluation of numerous aspects such as soil properties, climate, relief, hydrology and socio-economic aspects. The aim of this study was to evaluate the suitability of soils for wheat cultivation in the Gavshan region, Iran, as the country is facing the task of becoming self-sufficient in wheat. Various methods were used to evaluate the land, such as multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM), which is proving to be important for land use planning. MCDM and machine learning (ML) are useful for decision-making processes because they use complicated spatial data and methods that are widely available. Using a geomorphological map, seventy soil profiles were selected and described, and ten soil properties and wheat yields were determined. Three MCDM approaches, including the technique of preference ordering by similarity to the ideal solution (TOPSIS), gray relational analysis (GRA), and simple additive weighting (SAW), were used and evaluated. The criteria weights were extracted using Shannon’s entropy method. Random forest (RF) model and auxiliary variables (remote sensing data, terrain data, and geomorphological maps) were used to represent the land suitability values. Spatial autocorrelation analysis as a statistical method was applied to analyze the spatial variability of the spatial data. Slope, CEC (cation exchange capacity), and OC (organic carbon) were the most important factors for wheat cultivation. The spatial autocorrelation between the key criteria (slope, CEC, and OC) and wheat yield confirmed these results. These results also showed a significant correlation between the land suitability values of TOPSIS, GRA, and SAW and wheat yield (0.74, 0.72, and 0.57, respectively). The spatial distribution of land suitability values showed that the areas classified as good according to TOPSIS and GRA were larger than those classified as moderate and weak according to the SAW approach. These results were also confirmed by the autocorrelation of the MCDM techniques with wheat yield. In addition, the RF model showed its effectiveness in processing complex spatial data and improved the accuracy of land suitability assessment. In this study, by integrating advanced MCDM techniques and ML, an applicable land evaluation approach for wheat cultivation was proposed, which can improve the accuracy of land suitability and be useful for considering sustainability principles in land management.

At Syaichona Moh. Cholil Islamic Boarding School Gambut is one of the events where students will be selected and have the right to be made outstanding students, usually called student stars. To simplify, it is necessary to create a decision support system (DSS). In the SPK selection of outstanding students, the Simple Additive Weighting (SAW) method was used. This method can determine the weight value for each criterion, followed by a ranking process to select the best alternative from all the alternatives. The student achievement data used is data from the test score of class 4 students at the MI level graduating in 2020. In the DSS test using the SAW method, it can be concluded that the highest score with a value of 0.90 is the value recommended by the user to determine outstanding students.

The choice of majors is very important to think about beforehand because it will have an impact on the results of these graduates and the job prospects sought later. There are many things that can be considered by high school graduates in choosing a major because if you choose rashly, you will be at risk of failing along the way. For this reason, research was carried out with an emphasis on the criteria for selecting majors at ISB Atma Luhur. The method used in this study is SAW (Simple Additive Weighting) which is a weighted sum method that is weighting criteria and alternative attributes so that normalization can be carried out and calculation of preference values is carried out and the highest and lowest rankings are obtained which are used as decision recommendations. Respondent data was taken based on the sample, namely through a non-probability sampling technique, namely in this study the respondent could only provide one opportunity to be sampled from the population so that one respondent could not be sampled twice. Respondents who were sampled were 100 people who were taken from high school graduates. The criteria presented include department accreditation, number of professionally certified lecturers, study program scholarships, and facilities. Determination of criteria based on the results of interviews with respondents and the results are taken based on the criteria with the most choices. The results of the study are alternative Information Systems with a weight or value obtained from the SAW calculation results, namely 1, Informatics Engineering with a weight of 0.8, while Digital Business is 0.6. From the results of these calculations, it can be concluded that the department that gets the highest score, namely the Information Systems major, can also be used as a recommendation as a major to be chosen by students.

This study is focused on determining the impact of short-time annealing during industrial brazing process. Short-time annealing is commonly used to alleviate residual stresses resulting from the brazing process and represent in this study 30% of the process time. Samples were selected using two designs of experiments with three main parameters which are temperature of brazing, temperature of short-time annealing and time of first cooling for the first, and temperature of brazing for the second. Shear resistance tests allowed to refine the selection of samples for further investigation. EDS views, hardness measurements and residual stress measurements were conducted. From the obtained results, although slight differences were observed in the microstructure, hardness, and residual stresses of the samples, no clear pattern of impacts could be attributed to short-time annealing. In conclusion, this study did not find substantial evidence of short-time annealing having a significant impact on the microstructure, hardness, or residual stresses in the context of industrial brazing for wood cutting tools. Further research could explore other annealing parameters or alternative heat treatment methods to achieve the desired material properties.

Lecturers need Support and motivation to implement quality Tri Dharma, especially at "X" Private Universities. Providing rewards or awards can motivate lecturers to give their best performance to Tri Dharma. Student feedback is also needed as evaluation material for lecturers to measure their teaching abilities. Rewarding lecturers can be done by ranking lecturer performance, especially at private universities. The SAW (Simple Additive Weighting) algorithm ranks lecturer performance through the criteria of education and teaching, research, community service, and student feedback. An assessment of several subcriteria presents each criterion. The normalized scoring matrix is ​​the ranking preference. From the results of data processing on lecturer performance and feedback from students, with a sample of 25 lecturers, a ranking score was obtained on a scale of 0 to 1, where a score of 1 is the highest ranking. The lecturer performance ranking process involves lecturers, students, and the Study Program Management Unit. A lecturer performance rating information system is needed to facilitate all actors' involvement in the lecturer performance rating process and provide valid and timely rating results to stakeholders.

The degradation of land and increasing water scarcity are existing challenges for agricultural sustainability, necessitating the implementation of improved soil-conservation practices at the watershed scale. The identification and selection of critical/prone areas based on erosion-governing criteria is essential and helps in the execution of the management process for determining priority. This study prioritizes erosion-prone sub-watersheds (alternatives) based on morphometric parameters (multiple criteria) via five Multi-Criteria Decision Analysis (MCDA) approaches, i.e., AHP: Analytical Hierarchy Process; TOPSIS: Technique for Order of Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution; VIKOR: VIseKriterijumska Optimizacija I Kompromisno Resenje; SAW: Simple Additive Weighting; and CF: Compound Factor. Based on their priority score, 19 sub-watersheds were classified into four priority classes: low priority (0–0.25), moderate priority (0.25–0.50), high priority (0.50–0.75), and very high priority (0.75–1). The results revealed that about 8.34–30.15% area of the Burhanpur watershed is critically prone to erosion, followed by 23.38–52.05% area classed as high priority, 7.47–49.99% area classed as moderate priority, and 10.33–18.28% area classed as low priority. Additionally, four indices—percentage of changes (∆P), intensity of changes (∆I), the Spearman rank correlation coefficient test (SCCT), and the Kendall tau correlation coefficient test (KTCCT)—were employed to compare the models. This study confirms the efficacy of morphometric parameters for prioritizing sub-watersheds to preserve soil and the environment, particularly in areas for which limited information is available. The physical phenomena of submerged arc welding (SAW) conducted with a 1.6 mm flux-cored wire were investigated using X-ray imaging technique. Three kinds of metal transfer modes were confirmed in this paper, namely the front flux wall-guided droplet transfer, back flux wall-guided droplet transfer, and repelled droplet transfer, of which the corresponding percentages were 47.65%, 45.29%, and 7.06%, respectively. Although the average sizes of the droplets for SAW and FCAW (flux-cored wire welding) were 2.0 mm and 1.9 mm with an average droplet transfer time of 90.3 ms, it required 36.4% more time for the droplet of SAW to finish one metal transfer than it did in FCAW. In addition, the volume of the cavity was not constant but repeated a cycle mode of "expansion and contraction" during the whole process. Thus, the dynamics of the cavity and viscous resistance caused by the flux collectively slowed down the velocity of the droplets from the wire to the weld pool in SAW. Compared with FCAW, a smoother weld without pits and pores was manufactured during the SAW process. Due to the compression effect of the flux, the 14.5 mm average weld width of SAW was 2.9 mm shorter than that of the FCAW. Furthermore, the thickness of slag with a porous structure in SAW was 2.7 times of that in FCAW, indicating that it could provide better protection to the weld of SAW. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Population growth has resulted in an increase in land exploitation on a large scale. Therefore, to increase crop yield and sustainable use of soil, it is necessary to exploit the land according to its potential. Due to land suitability assessment’s multifactor nature, it needs a method for evaluating the factors simultaneously; in this case, multi-criteria decision models can be used. Therefore, this study aimed to compare the efficiency of the parametric method (square root) with multi-criteria decision-making approaches (technique for order of preference by similarity to ideal solution (TOPSIS) and simple additive weighting (SAW)) for evaluating land suitability in some rice cultivated areas in Khuzestan province, southwest Iran. A total of 28 rice farms were selected in the study area, and a pedon was dug, examined, and sampled in each. Several physicochemical land characteristics were used for the evaluation process, such as soil, climate, and topographical factors. According to the results, soil texture is the main limiting factor for rice farming in the study region, and organic carbon, salinity, and alkalinity ranked next. The range of land index for rice cultivation calculated by the square root method was from 19.3 to 70.9, from 49 to 95.3 by TOPSIS, and from 3.57 to 74.7 by SAW. The calculated explanatory coefficients between the actual yield and land indices for rice products estimated by the square root method, the TOPSIS approach, and the SAW method were 0.44, 0.63, and 0.60, respectively. This result confirms the high accuracy of TOPSIS method compared to SAW and square root methods. TOPSIS is therefore the ideal method for prioritizing options based on the simulation of the ideal answer because it is highly technical and robust in its decision-making approach. Furthermore, it uses the standardization method, equations, mathematical matrices, and suitable weights. The integration of high-frequency acoustic waves with microfluidics has been gaining popularity as a method of separating cells/particles. A standing surface acoustic wave (sSAW) device produces constructive interference of the stationary waves, demonstrating an increase in cell separating efficiency without damaging/altering the cell structure. The performance of an sSAW device depends on the applied input signal, design of the IDT, and piezoelectric properties of the substrate. This work analyzes the characteristics of a validated 3D finite element model (FEM) of LiNbO3 and the effect on the displacement components of the mechanical waves under the influence of sSAWs by considering XY-, YX-, and 1280 YX-cut LiNbO3 with varying electrode length design. We demonstrated that device performance can be enhanced by the interference of multiple waves under a combination of input signals. The results suggest that 1280 YX-cut LiNbO3 is suitable for generating higher-amplitude out-of-plane waves which can improve the effectiveness of acoustofluidics-based cell separation. The realization of company goals is greatly influenced by the manager's decisions in the activities of managing production processes. To make decisions, managers use different decision-making methods, taking into account different criteria on the basis of which they choose the best alternative. The paper presents the optimization of the technological process of banana ripening using the simple additive weighting (SAW) method. The research monitored temperature correction, ripening gas dosage concentration, duration of treatment, commodity loss, including correction of accompanying factors of green banana fruit ripening. By applying the SAW method on 400 performed ripenings in the period from 2017 to 2020, the best results were achieved at a temperature of 18.5 °C, with an ethylene concentration of 840 ppm, process time of 112 h and achieved kalo of 233 kg. The total cost of ripening based on the examined parameters is 250.12 € which can save 81.42 € and meet the finishing standards. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In the present paper the humidity sensing properties of regioregular rr-P3HT (poly-3-hexylthiophene) polymer films is investigated by means of surface acoustic wave (SAW) based sensors implemented on LiNbO3 (1280 Y-X) and ST-quartz piezoelectric substrates. The polymeric layers were deposited along the SAW propagation path by spray coating method and the layers thickness was measured by atomic force microscopy (AFM) technique. The response of the SAW devices to relative humidity (rh) changes in the range ~5–60% has been investigated by measuring the SAW phase and frequency changes induced by the (rh) absorption in the rr-P3HT layer. The SAW sensor implemented onto LiNbO3 showed improved performance as the thickness of the membrane increases (from 40 to 240 nm): for 240 nm thick polymeric membrane a phase shift of about −1.2 deg and −8.2 deg was measured for the fundamental (~78 MHz operating frequency) and 3rd (~234 MHz) harmonic wave at (rh) = 60%. A thick rr-P3HT film (~600 nm) was deposited onto the quartz-based SAW sensor: the sensor showed a linear frequency shift of ~−20.5 Hz per unit (rh) changes in the ~5–~50% rh range, and a quite fast response (~5 s) even at low humidity level (~5% rh). The LiNbO3 and quartz-based sensors response was assessed by using a dual delay line system to reduce unwanted common mode signals. The simple and cheap spray coating technology for the rr-P3HT polymer films deposition, complemented with fast low level humidity detection of the tested SAW sensors (much faster than the commercially available Michell SF-52 device), highlight their potential in a low-medium range humidity sensing application.

The advancement toward sustainable infrastructure presents complex multi-objective optimization (MOO) challenges. This paper expands the current understanding of design frameworks that balance cost, environmental impacts, social factors, and structural integrity. Integrating MOO with multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM), the study targets enhancements in life cycle sustainability for complex engineering projects using precast modular road frames. Three advanced evolutionary algorithms—NSGA-II, NSGA-III, and RVEA—are optimized and deployed to address sustainability objectives under performance constraints. The efficacy of these algorithms is gauged through a comparative analysis, and a robust MCDM approach is applied to nine non-dominated solutions, employing SAW, FUCA, TOPSIS, PROMETHEE, and VIKOR decision-making techniques. An entropy theory-based method ensures systematic, unbiased criteria weighting, augmenting the framework’s capacity to pinpoint designs balancing life cycle sustainability. The results reveal that NSGA-III is the algorithm converging towards the most cost-effective solutions, surpassing NSGA-II and RVEA by 21.11% and 10.07%, respectively, while maintaining balanced environmental and social impacts. The RVEA achieves up to 15.94% greater environmental efficiency than its counterparts. The analysis of non-dominated solutions identifies the A4 design, utilizing 35 MPa concrete and B500S steel, as the most sustainable alternative across 80% of decision-making algorithms. The ranking correlation coefficients above 0.94 demonstrate consistency among decision-making techniques, underscoring the robustness of the integrated MOO and MCDM framework. The results in this paper expand the understanding of the applicability of novel techniques for enhancing engineering practices and advocate for a comprehensive strategy that employs advanced MOO algorithms and MCDM to enhance sustainable infrastructure development.

This study presents an in-depth analysis of the selection process for primary sectors impacting the economic activity in Romania, employing an interval-valued fuzzy (IVF) approach combined with multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) methodologies. This research aims to identify eight key criteria influencing the selection of Romanian primary sectors, including technology adaptation, infrastructure development and investment, gross domestic product (GDP), sustainability, employment generation, market demand, risk management and government policies. The current analysis evaluates eight primary sector performances against these eight criteria through the application of three MCDM methods, namely, Simple Additive Weighting (SAW), Weighted Product Model (WPM), and Weighted Aggregated Sum Product Assessment (WASPAS). Ten economic experts comprising a committee have been invited to provide their views on the criteria’s importance and the alternatives’ performance. Based on the decision-maker’s qualitative judgement, GDP acquires the highest weightage, followed by environmental impact and sustainability, thus indicating the most critical factors among the group. The IVF-MCDM hybrid model indicates the energy sector as Romanian primary sector with the most potential, followed by the agriculture and forestry sector among the list of eight alternatives. It also explores the robustness of results by considering sensitivity analysis and the potential impacts of political and international factors, such as pandemics or armed conflicts, on sector selection. The findings indicate consistency in sector rankings across the different methodologies employed, underscoring the importance of methodological choice and criteria weighting. Additionally, this study sheds light on the potential influence of political and international dynamics on sector prioritization, emphasizing the need for comprehensive decision-making frameworks in economic planning processes.

The latest trends in the field of the on-site detection of chemical warfare agents (CWAs) involve increasing the availability of point detectors to enhance the operational awareness of commanders and soldiers. Among the intensively developed concepts aimed at meeting these requirements, wearable detectors, gas analyzers as equipment for micro- and mini-class unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), and distributed sensor networks can be mentioned. One of the analytical techniques well suited for use in this field is surface acoustic wave sensors, which can be utilized to construct lightweight, inexpensive, and undemanding gas analyzers for detecting CWAs. This review focuses on the intensively researched and developed variant of this technique, utilizing absorptive sensor layers dedicated for nerve CWAs’ detection. The paper describes the mechanism of the specific interaction occurring between the target analyte and the sensing layer, which serves as the foundation for their selective detection. The main section of this paper includes a chronological review of individual achievements in the field, largely based on the peer-reviewed scientific literature dating back to the mid-1980s to the present day. The final section presents conclusions regarding the prospects for the development of this analytical technique in the targeted application.

The realization of company goals is greatly influenced by the manager’s decisions in the activities of managing production processes. To make decisions, managers use different decision-making methods, taking into account different criteria on the basis of which they choose the best alternative. The paper presents the optimization of the technological process of banana ripening using the simple additive weighting (SAW) method. The research monitored temperature correction, ripening gas dosage concentration, duration of treatment, commodity loss, including correction of accompanying factors of green banana fruit ripening. By applying the SAW method on 400 performed ripenings in the period from 2017 to 2020, the best results were achieved at a temperature of 18.5 °C, with an ethylene concentration of 840 ppm, process time of 112 h and achieved kalo of 233 kg. The total cost of ripening based on the examined parameters is 250.12 € which can save 81.42 € and meet the finishing standards.

It is widely known the harmful delta ferrite effect on the mechanical properties of martensitic stainless steel (MSS), especially in the partially melted (PMZ) and heat-affected (HAZ) regions brought about the welding thermal cycle. Therefore, this research studied the cooling and diffusion conditions responsible for delta ferrite formation, distribution, and morphology. A finite element numerical model helped to estimate the welding thermal cycle and then was correlated with delta ferrite formation. The numerical analysis considered the application of the submerged arc welding (SAW) process in multipass mode to obtain a coupon test fabricated of MSS 12Cr–1Mo. Heat diffusion and convection processes were strongly related to ferritic phase formation in the PMZ, which affected heat dissipation. Meanwhile, solid-state diffusion of chemical species C, Cr and Mo was analyzed in the HAZ to quantify its effect on delta ferrite grains formation derived from the carbide dissolution process. There was a significant fall in mechanical strength and corrosion resistance (pitting formation) in the HAZ, where some vermicular delta ferrite chains were detected.

A Love-type acoustic wave sensor (AT-cut quartz substrate, SiO2 guiding layer) with a center frequency of approximately 120 MHz was used to detect a simulant of pathogenic botulinum neurotoxin type A—recombinant of BoNT-A light chain—in liquid samples. The sensor was prepared by immobilizing monoclonal antibodies specific for botulinum neurotoxin via a thiol monolayer deposited on a gold substrate. Studies have shown that the sensor enables selective analyte detection within a few minutes. In addition, the sensor can be used several times (regeneration of the sensor is possible using a low pH buffer). Nevertheless, the detectability of the analyte is relatively low compared to other analytical techniques that can be used for rapid detection of botulinum neurotoxin. The obtained results confirm the operation of the proposed sensor and give hope for further development of this label-free technique for detecting botulinum neurotoxin. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Temperature monitoring in extreme environments presents new challenges for MEMS sensors. Since aluminum nitride (AlN)/scandium aluminum nitride (ScAlN)-based surface acoustic wave (SAW) devices have a high Q-value, good temperature drift characteristics, and the ability to be compatible with CMOS, they have become some of the preferred devices for wireless passive temperature measurement. This paper presents the development of AlN/ScAlN SAW-based temperature sensors. Three methods were used to characterize the temperature characteristics of a thin-film SAW resonator, including direct measurement by GSG probe station, and indirect measurement by oscillation circuit and antenna. The temperature characteristics of the three methods in the range of 30–100 °C were studied. The experimental results show that the sensitivities obtained with the three schemes were −28.9 ppm/K, −33.6 ppm/K, and −29.3 ppm/K. The temperature sensor using the direct measurement method had the best linearity, with a value of 0.0019%, and highest accuracy at ±0.70 °C. Although there were differences in performance, the characteristics of the three SAW temperature sensors make them suitable for sensing in various complex environments. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
