Aim: To estimate the occupational disease linked to temporary incapacity (not work‐ related illness). Background: The under‐reporting of occupational disease is a recognized problem in Europe. Methods: Cross‐sectional study conducted in Spanish adult population using periodsof temporary incapacity recorded in primary care during 2015. Rates of occupational disease were estimated using the García & Gadea study. Results: A total of 130,771 episodes of temporary incapacity were studied from 91,448 people, and 56,092 were women (61.3%). The overall prevalence rate was 2,096 and was higher in women (2,504) than in men (1,665) (p < 0.001). It was estimated that 6,580 (7.2%) could be suffering from an occupational disease. Musculoskeletal complaints were the commonest, affecting 75,165 people (82.2%). For the binary logistic regression, the dependent variable was the existence or lack of incapacity due to a musculoskeletal pathology. Age acts as a protective factor (adjusted OR = 0.978). The periods off work due to musculoskeletal complaints arelower in the first quarter of the year [OR > 1; p < 0.001]. Conclusions: 7.2% of the population was estimated to be off work due to an occupational disease. This estimate reflects the well‐known under‐reporting of occupationaldiseases which are dealt with by the Public Health System instead of specialized clinics. Implications for Nursing Management: The interdisciplinary role of the occupational health nurse makes it an adequate professional to detect the cases of occupational diseases in primary care settings. Objetivos: Durante el confinamiento por la COVID-19, algunas personas se involucraron en comportamientos que generaron una Mayor sensación de positividad y control. El objetivo del presente estudio fue identificar relaciones entre el afecto, las estrategias. de afrontamiento y la resiliencia con la gestión de tareas, la angustia causada por el encierro y la dificultad para observar las restricciones de salud pública. Métodos: Se realizó un estudio observacional transversal (mayo de 2020) en la Universidad Complutense de Madrid. La muestra estuvo conformada por 50 estudiantes de primer año de Ciencias de la Salud, los cuales fueron evaluados durante el confinamiento por la COVID19. Se utilizaron las siguientes escalas: Programa de Afectos Positivos y Negativos (PANAS), Afrontamiento Inventario de Orientación a Problemas Experimentados, Escala de Resiliencia Connor-Davidson y Escala de Gestión de Actividades en Situación Escala de Confinamiento. Resultados: 35 estudiantes (70%) presentaron una puntuación mayor de 6 en la escala que mide el malestar causado por las restricciones de salud pública. Las asociaciones con valores de r ≥0,5 fueron: angustia por la pandemia y afecto positivo (r=0,512); búsqueda de nuevos pasatiempos y búsqueda de apoyo social (r=0,567); búsqueda de nuevos pasatiempos y humor (r=0,56); lectura y afrontamiento activo centrado en el problema (r=0,5). Conclusiones: El afecto positivo está influenciado por conductas vinculadas a la ayuda al prójimo. Las estrategias que permitieron a los sujetos ocupar su tiempo de manera más constructiva fueron: afrontamiento activo centrado en el problema, búsqueda de apoyo psicosocial y aceptación y crecimiento personal. Background: There is a wide body of knowledge about Emotional Intelligence and its benefits in health care, generating better productivity, clinical performance and communication with work teams, patients and families. Its relationship with stress and with performance of clinical practices has also been studied, although the results are not conclusive or up-to-date. Objectives: To study and correlate the perception of Emotional Intelligence and the stressors inherent to Nursing students’ clinical practices. Design: A multicenter and observational study was carried out through cross-sectional surveys with Nursing students during the 2021/2022 academic year. Participants: 377 students were included in the study, recruited through non-probabilistic sampling in four Spanish universities. Methods: Sociodemographic and academic variables were collected, as well as the following main variables: perceived Emotional Intelligence and stressors in clinical practices. Results: The study sample consisted of 377 students (89.1 % women; mean age of 23.15 ± 5.50). The perception of Emotional Intelligence obtained adequate ranges. The stressors that generate most concern are being attacked by the patients, lack of competence, and impotence and uncertainty. There are statistically significant differences in Emotional Intelligence by gender and university, as well as in stressors between each other. The Emotional Intelligence dimensions are weakly correlated with the stressors, although with statistical significance. Conclusions: This study shows that Emotional Intelligence slightly influences the stressors inherent to clinical practices, so that EI can help cope with the difficulties of clinical work. Specifically, emotional clarity has an inverse relationship with some stressors. However, the attention and repair dimensions do not present such a clear relationship in our study or in previous ones. Fondo La mayoría de los estudios sobre la mejora de la resiliencia carecen de muestras representativas y de evaluaciones previas y posteriores a la intervención. Los resultados sobre la efectividad de las intervenciones en línea versus las intervenciones presenciales son mixtos. Objetivos Evaluar la efectividad de programas en línea y presenciales para la mejora de estrategias de afrontamiento para desarrollar resiliencia ante situaciones estresantes, y evaluar su relación con rasgos de personalidad, estado de ánimo y estresores académicos. Diseño Ensayo clínico controlado aleatorio. Diseño paralelo de tres brazos. Participantes 245 estudiantes de la Licenciatura en Enfermería y Fisioterapia. Métodos Los estudiantes fueron asignados aleatoriamente al grupo control (GC), grupo de intervención 1 (IG-1, presencial) o grupo de intervención 2 (IG-2, online). Fueron evaluados después de la intervención con los siguientes instrumentos: la Escala de Afectos Positivos y Negativos (PANAS), la Escala de Estresores Académicos, la Orientación de Afrontamiento a los Problemas Experimentados (COPE), la Escala de Resiliencia de Connor-Davidson y la escala NEO-FFI. Resultados El afecto negativo fue mayor en IG-1 (p = 0,12). Los mayores factores estresantes fueron las deficiencias metodológicas del profesorado, la sobrecarga académica y las creencias sobre el rendimiento académico. Las estrategias de afrontamiento más utilizadas fueron el “afrontamiento activo centrado en el problema” y la “búsqueda de apoyo social”. [Objectives] To monitor quantitatively the extent of intestinal colonisation by KPC-producing Klebsiella pneumoniae (KPC-Kp) in colonised patients who receive selective digestive decontamination (SDD) with oral gentamicin., [Methods] We developed a real-time quantitative PCR (qPCR) method for determination of the relative load of blaKPC (RLKPC) within the gut microbiota. Clinical validation was performed using a culture method as the gold standard and receiver operating curve (ROC) analysis. Fifteen patients were observationally and prospectively followed for one year. Clinical, microbiological variables and rectal swab samples were collected at 0 (baseline), 14 and 30 days and monthly thereafter., [Results] Clinical validation performed on 111 rectal swab samples demonstrated that the PCR method detected 17% more positives than the culture method. ROC curve analysis documented excellent agreement between both methods (area under the curve, 0.96; 95% confidence interval 0.93–0.99). The RLKPC decreased in 6/15 (40%) and 7/12 (58.3%) patients on days 14 and 30, respectively. Persistent eradication was observed in 2/12 (16.7%), 3/9 (33.3%), 4/8 (50%) and 7/8 (87.5%) patients at 1, 3, 6 and 12 months, respectively, with a median time of 150 days (range 30–270) to persistent eradication. Gentamicin-resistant KPC-Kp isolates were identified in 4/15 (26.7%) patients. The rates of infections (57.1% vs. 12.5%, P = 0.119) and deaths (71.4% vs. 0%, P = 0.007) were higher among patients with high baseline RLKPC., [Conclusion] Following SDD, a rapid reduction on intestinal load is observed when the colonising KPC-Kp isolate is susceptible to gentamicin; however, persistent eradication at the end of SDD is low. Intestinal carriage of KPC-Kp persists after three months in about one third of patients.

[eng] Objective. Update the available scientific evidence on the association between shift work and the appearance of hyperuricemia in workers. Methods: The PICOS strategy was used to conduct a systematic review and meta-analysis of studies found in Pubmed, Web of Science, EBSCOhost, Scopus, and Cochrane Library databases which were published between January 2009 and September 2019 in English or Spanish. We used the CASPe and PRISMA-P 2015 systematic review analysis tools. Study quality was assessed using the STROBE and CONSORT statements. The GRADE-Pro tool was used to evaluate the evidence and the quantitative synthesis was produced with RevMan. Results: Eight articles were used for the review and five for the meta-analysis. The average difference in uric acid between shift work and non-shift work was not significant. The meta-analysis showed an overall mean difference of -0.04 95% CI (-0.11, 0.04) p=0.32. The heterogeneity of the analysis was low (I2= 40%) p=0.15. Conclusions: Evidence from the results shows that shift work is not associated with hyperuricemia. Métodos: La estrategia PICOS se utilizó para realizar una revisión sistemática y un metanálisis de los estudios que se encuentran en las bases de datos Pubmed, Web of Science, EBSCOhost, Scopus y Cochrane Library que se publicaron entre enero de 2009 y septiembre de 2019 en inglés o español. Se utilizaron las herramientas de análisis de revisión sistemática CASPe y PRISMA-P 2015. La calidad del estudio se evaluó mediante las declaraciones STROBE y CONSORT. Se utilizó la herramienta GRADE-Pro para evaluar la evidencia y la síntesis cuantitativa se realizó con RevMan. Resultados: Se utilizaron ocho artículos para la revisión y cinco para el metanálisis. La diferencia promedio en el ácido úrico entre el trabajo por turnos y el trabajo sin turnos no fue significativa. El metanálisis mostró una diferencia media global de -0,04 IC del 95 % (-0,11; 0,04) p=0,32. La heterogeneidad del análisis fue baja (I2= 40%) p=0,15. Conclusiones: La evidencia de los resultados muestra que el trabajo por turnos no está asociado con la hiperuricemia. Sin embargo, se necesita más investigaciones con mayor control de sesgos para respaldar los resultados encontrados.

Background: Physical activity’s established health benefits include pain control, yet there is no consensus on the required dosage according to the literature. Aim: To test the influence of exercise on perceived health in patients whose daily activities are limited due to pain. Besides, analyze the possible moderating effect of age and find a formula for exercise dosage based on the perceived level of health. Methods: Cross-sectional study based on the 2017 Spanish National Health Survey with 4,123 participants reporting activity limitations in their daily activities due to pain. The International Physical Activity Questionnaire (short version) was used to calculate energy expenditure. Data included age, sex, leisure-time physical activity, sitting time, pain-related impairments, pain medication, and perceived health. Mediation regression analysis was conducted using the SPSS PROCESS 4.0 macro. Results: Results indicate a decline in perceived health with age. The relationship between exercise (energy expenditure) and perceived health was highly significant (d=-0.224, p<0.001). Age moderated the association between pain and energy expenditure up to 75.61 years (0.1568, p=0.05) and between energy expenditure and perceived health up to 75.74 years (-0.289, p=0.05), but this effect diminished afterwards. A formula was developed to estimate energy expenditure based on the desired level of health. Conclusions: The perception of health in people who are limited in their daily activities due to pain (moderate to very much) is mediated by the amount of physical activity they perform. Besides, this perception is moderated by age, up to 76 years.

The objective was to analyze the factors that influence reactions to confinement situations, such as personality, humor, coping with stressors, and resilience, and to compare this population with a normal situation of exposure to an intense academic stressor such as a partial test, and with the confinement situation caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods: A longitudinal study was performed involving 116 health sciences students from Spain. Three situations were evaluated: a basal situation of normality at the beginning of the course, situation facing an academic stressor (partial test), and confinement situation due to COVID-19. The Positive and Negative Affect Schedule (PANAS), Coping Orientation to Problems Experienced (COPE), Connor–Davidson Resilience Scale, and NEO-FFI scale were used. Results: Significant differences were observed in the increase in negative humor and decrease in positive one, as well as decrease in “Focus on and Venting of Emotions”. Personality factors that better predict humor at confinement were “conscientiousness” for having positive humor and low “extraversion” for negative humor. Conclusions: The confinement situation due to COVID-19 has caused changes in predominant humor, as well as in coping strategies. [eng] Objectives: During lockdown by COVID-19, some individuals engaged in behaviours generating a greater sense of positivity and control. The objective was to identify relationships between affect, coping strategies, and resilience with task management, distress caused by lockdown, and difficulty observing public health restrictions. Methods: A cross-sectional observational study (May 2020) was carried out in the Complutense University of Madrid. The sample consisted of 50 first-year Health Sciences students, wich were assessed during lockdown by COVID19. The followins scales were used: the Positive and Negative Affect Schedule (PANAS), the Coping Orientation to Problems Experienced inventory, the Connor- Davidson Resilience Scale, and the Escala de Gestión de Actividades en Situación de Confinamiento (Activity Management during Lockdown Scale). Results: Thirty-five students (70%) displayed a score of ³6 on the scale measuring the distress caused by the public health restrictions. Associations with r values of ≥0.5 were: distress caused by the pandemic and positive affect (r=0.512); seeking new hobbies and seeking social support (r=0.567); seeking new hobbies and humour (r=0.56); reading and active problem-focused coping (r=0.5). Conclusions: Positive affect is influenced by behaviours linked to helping neighbours. Background: Leisure-time physical activity (LTPA) is not the same as occupational activity. Various factors influence both forms of physical activity, including job stress and job satisfaction, but the associations found are weak, and the need for new studies in large populations is emphasized. The objective was to study the relationship between job stress and job satisfaction, and the relationship between these and occupational and leisure-time physical activity according to the National Survey of Health 2017. Methods: A population-based study of 8716 workers between 18 and 65 years of age. The variables age, sex, leisure, and occupational-time physical activity (OTPA), educational level, type of occupation, job stress level, and job satisfaction were collected. A simple and multiple correspondence analysis was performed between the variables that reached statistical significance. Results: 4621 cases (53.02%) correspond to men with a mean age of 44.83 years (SD 10.22) and 4095 cases to women with a mean age of 44.55 years (SD 10.23). Women had higher percentages of higher education (p < 0.001), intermediate to high occupations and unskilled (p < 0.001), job stress (p < 0.001), covered the most extreme levels of satisfaction (p = 0.003), and do less LTPA (p < 0.001) and OTPA (p < 0.001). Also, in women a relationship was found between job stress and LTPA (p = 0.024), as well as between satisfaction and both forms of physical activity (OTPA p = 0.013 and LTPA p < 0.001). In men, significance was only reached in the relationship between job stress and OTPA (p <0.001). Conclusions. The higher the job stress, the less the job satisfaction, but the relationship is reversed in the intermediate categories. For both sexes, job stress is related to a sedentary lifestyle and higher employment and education levels. Higher levels of satisfaction correspond to higher levels of occupancy. Also, in women a relationship was found between job stress and LTPA (p = 0.024), as well as between satisfaction and both forms of physical activity (OTPA p = 0.013 and LTPA p < 0.001). In men, significance was only reached in the relationship between job stress and OTPA (p <0.001). Conclusions. The higher the job stress, the less the job satisfaction, but the relationship is reversed in the intermediate categories. Background: Spain hosts the fourth largest number of immigrants in Europe, resulting in a large proportion of migrant workers. To date, few studies have examined the working conditions of immigrants in Southern Spain who are known to be at risk for adverse working conditions. This study aimed to investigate the patterns of work and working conditions of immigrants living in southern Spain and to understand how these factors may affect their health. Methods: A qualitative study using semi-structured interviews was conducted throughout 2019 and included 93 immigrants. Transcription, literal reading, and theoretical categorization were performed and a narrative content analysis was carried out. Results: Three themes emerged on working conditions of this study population, including social and labor-related characteristics, working conditions, and occupational health issues. Four employment sectors were most commonly occupied by these immigrants, including caregiving and food service for women and agriculture and construction for men. Most immigrants were from Latin America, unemployed or working part-time jobs, and not hired under an employment contract. Most worked in low-qualified jobs, and were exposed to occupational hazards such as falls from heights, manual handling of materials, and psychological strain. The lack of training on occupational risk prevention and labor rights was related to a low identification of work situations having a negative impact on the health of immigrants. Conclusions/Application to Practice: These findings should be taken into account by the government and public health managers to provide better assistance to immigrant workers in Europe.
