The development of periodontal diseases has multifactorial causes including genetic factors. Limited investigations have been conducted to explore the association between ABO blood groups and the development and progression of periodontal diseases. To evaluate and assess the association of ABO Phenotype and Rhesus factor with oral hygiene status, severity of chronic periodontitis and blood parameters like hemoglobin level and Platelet count in localized and generalized chronic periodontitis. Study was carried out on 100 patients, out of which 80 patients of Generalized Chronic Periodontitis and 20 patients of Localized Chronic Periodontitis. Patients were categorized into Mild, Moderate and Severe Periodontitis. A highly significant association was found between severity of periodontitis and blood groups with blood group B and O were found to be at a greater risk to develop moderate to severe form of chronic periodontitis. Also subjects with blood group B and O showed worst oral hygiene among all the blood groups. Also patients suffering from chronic periodontitis showed a general trend towards lower limit of both hemoglobin level and platelet. Genetic factors such as ABO blood group antigens may act as a risk influencer that plays a role in progression and severity of the chronic periodontitis, with blood group B and O being worst affected. Background: The International Society of Blood Transfusion has documented 30 distinct blood group systems; the ABO and Rh systems are regarded as the most important blood group systems. Determining the ABO-Rh (D) blood group is vital in clinical settings to prevent the possibility of incompatibility and Rhesus D alloimmunization. Objective: This study aimed to provide information on the distribution of blood groups and Rh factor among Bowen University Teaching Hospital School of Nursing students with the view of educating students about the risks of rhesus incompatibility. Material and Methods: retrospective cross-sectional study which reviewed the preschool entry medical records of Nursing students of Bowen University Teaching Hospital Ogbomoso from 2019-2022. The data were systematically collated, analyzed and used to generate frequency tables. Results: a total of 216 records were reviewed. The majority were females (84.3%), less than or equal to 18 years (48.6%) and with blood group O (44.4%) and rhesus positivity (94.0%). None from the male gender had an AB blood group. Prevalence of Rh(D) positive was higher among females (85.3%) while Rh(D) negative was higher among males (14.7%). There was a significant association between gender and Rhesus factor. Conclusion: the findings from this study shows that blood group O and Rh(D) positive had the highest prevalence while the blood group AB and Rh(D) negative had the lowest prevalence. Therefore, effort should be made to educate the few who could suffer adverse events from Rhesus incompatibility.

Objective: To retrospectively evaluate the distribution of ABO and RhD blood groups and their relationship with diseases. Methods: The retrospective study was carried out in Bursa Uludag University Family Health Center in Turkey between 1-28 February, 2023. The data of individuals who were registered with the Family Health Center and whose blood types were known were evaluated retrospectively. Blood group type, sociodemographic findings, existing diseases, allergies, and genetic disease conditions were obtained. P-values below 0.05 were considered statistically significant. Analysis were made in the SPSS 25.0 program. Results: A total of 3834 people, 1935 male (50.5%) and 1899 female (49.5%) participated in the study. The mean age of the individuals was 26.45±10.45 years. About 75.8 percent of the participants were university students, 6.3 percent were health workers, and 17.9 percent were from other occupational groups. The rates of blood groups were determined as O Rh D+ at 33.5%, AB Rh D+ at 26.9%, A Rh D+ at 14.9%, AB Rh D- at 7.7%, B Rh D+ at 7%, O Rh D- at 4.6%, B Rh D- at 3.2% and A Rh D- at 2.2%. It was determined that the O Rh D- group had a higher rate of genetic disease than the other groups (p=0.01). Conclusion: It was determined that the O Rh D+ blood group was found more frequently in our region's population than in other groups. This different result depending on the A Rh D+ blood group, which is the most common throughout the country may have reflected the influence of different geographical regions and ethnic characteristics due to the students in our population. In addition, the results regarding the relationships between blood groups and occupation, genetics, existing disease, presence of allergies, and visual defects in the eye are important. In this study, we aimed to evaluate the relationship between ABO blood groups and Rhesus factor (Rf) and severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2 (Sars-CoV-2), as well as the risk of infection susceptibility and death according to pre-existing comorbidities.

Background: The purpose of the study was to assess knowledge, attitude, and practice towards blood donation among adults aged 18-45 years in Nsambya Gogonya 1 zone, Kampala district. Methodology: A descriptive cross-sectional study design was employed using a purposive sampling technique on 50 respondents. Semi A semi-structured questionnaire with both open and closed-ended questions written in English language was used. Data was manually analyzed using tally sheets and entered in a computer using the Microsoft Excel program to generate tables and figures like pie charts and bar graphs. Results: Findings on knowledge revealed that (100%) had ever heard about blood donation, (70%) reported that they knew their blood groups, (50%) did not know how often one should donate blood, (80%) responded that an individual should be healthy,(72%) responded that they could donate blood if called upon, (84%) responded they could encourage a friend or general public to donate blood. The study findings on practices revealed that (60%) had never donated blood, (70%) reported that they donate blood to save life. Conclusion: Overall knowledge and attitudes were fair but poor practices were established since participants wanted gifts that could not be given and lack of easy accessibility to blood donation camps as the majority had never attended a blood donation camp despite being willing to donate blood when called upon. Recommendation: The government should increase the number of blood donation centers at all levels of the community to ease the accessibility of blood donation, the Ministry of Health should increase awareness and education at all levels of the country regarding blood donation such as information about the need for blood and also education about the process and the hospital administration should establish blood donation camps to increase on the number of potential donors.

Abstract Background Our study aimed to identify preoperative predictors for perioperative allogenic blood transfusion (ABT) in patients undergoing major lung cancer resections in order to improve the perioperative management of patients at risk for ABT. Methods Patients admitted between 2014 and 2016 in a high-volume thoracic surgery clinic were retrospectively evaluated in a cohort study based on a control group without ABT and the ABT group requiring packed red blood cell units within 15 days postoperatively until discharge. The association of ABT with clinically established parameters (sex, preoperative anemia, liver and coagulation function, blood groups, multilobar resections) was analyzed by contingency tables, receiver operating characteristics (ROC) and logistic regression analysis, taking into account potential covariates. Results 60 out of 529 patients (11.3%) required ABT. N1 and non-T1 tumors, thoracotomy approach, multilobar resections, thoracic wall resections and Rhesus negativity were more frequent in the ABT group. Certain skeletal problems in sagittal plane are heritable and the skeletal muscle volume and strength, a heritable trait varies with different facial patterns. Aim: To evaluate the association between ABO blood groups and Rhesus (Rh) factor with skeletal malocclusions in sagittal and vertical plane. Materials and Methods: An observational study was conducted with a sample of 240 participants who reported to Department of Orthodontics in SRM dental college and hospital, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India seeking orthodontic treatment over a period of two years from September 2018 to December 2020. Participants were assessed for skeletal malocclusion in sagittal and vertical plane and for their ABO and Rh blood grouping. Chi square test was used for determining the association between sagittal and vertical skeletal malocclusion with ABO and Rh blood grouping. The association of the gender and the malocclusion was determined as a secondary outcome of the study. Results: A total of 240 participants (mean age: 19.81±5.95 years; 95 males and 145 females) were observed and data was analysed. A significant association was found between Rh positive blood group and skeletal class II malocclusion with high angle (p-value 0.025) Skeletal class I malocclusion with high angle was found to be associated significantly with O+ group (p-value<0.001). The female gender was found to be associated significantly with sagittal skeletal class II malocclusion with high angle (p-value 0.049). Conclusion: There is an association between the ABO blood groups and skeletal sagittal malocclusion and vertical skeletal pattern. Skeletal class II malocclusion with high angle pattern was associated significantly with Rh+ blood group and Class I Skeletal malocclusion with high angle pattern was significantly associated with O+ blood group. ABO blood group antigens are the most immunogenic followed by Rhesus (D antigen). These blood groups’ frequency distribution varies among different regions and races of the world. This study aimed to identifying the frequency distribution of ABO blood group and rhesus factors among blood donors in Ethiopia.Methods and Materials: Aretrospective cross-sectional study was conducted from September 12/2019 to March 18/2021 at Bahir Dar blood bank service. After getting a permission letter from the blood bank, data were collected from the blood bank donor data registration system, and descriptive statistical results were presented in number (frequency) and percentage. A Chi-square test was used to show the difference in the frequency distribution of ABO and Rh blood groups among sex and blood donation site.Results: From 40,053 blood donors, 67.7% were males and younger donors (within the age range of 18– 24 years) account for 63.7%. All donations were from voluntary non-remunerated blood donors. The most common blood group was blood group O (41.5%) followed by A (29.8), B (23.2%), and AB (5.5%). Considering ABO and Rh blood group altogether blood group O positive with 37.9% was the predominant blood group followed by A positive (27.2%), B positive (21.4%), AB positive (5%), O negative (3.6%), A negative (2.6%), B negative (1.8%), and AB negative (0.4%). The majority of study participants were 91.5% Rh (D) positive.Conclusion: This study showed that blood group O was the predominant followed by A, B, and AB and most of the blood donors’ blood groups were Rh-positive (91.5%). Introduction: Blood types were first discovered by an Austrian physician, Karl Landsteiner. He found that blood sera from different persons would clump together (agglutinate) when mixed in test tubes, and some human blood also agglutinated with animal blood. The study of different blood groups is important as it has major role in blood transfusion, certain medico-legal cases especially disputed paternity etc. Aim: This study was carried out to find the prevalence of ABO, Rhesus (Rh) and Bombay blood group among donors at a tertiary care hospital. Materials and Methods: The present retrospective study was done at a tertiary care hospital of Mangalore, Dakshina Kannada district, Karnataka, India from June 2018 to May 2019 with data analysis done in November 2019. Data of 8,254 blood donors were collected and analysed regarding ABO, Rhesus and Bombay group from June 2018 to May 2019. Blood grouping was done by automated method using agglutination technique. The data collected was analysed by frequency and percentage. Results: The total donors studied were 8,254 with mean age of 48 years. The most common blood group was O (n=3178,38.5%) followed by B (n=2343, 28.38), A (n=2102, 25.47%), AB (n=629, 7.62%) and Bombay (n=2, 0.02%), respectively. Rh positivity among donors were 94% (n=7762). Rest were Rh negative and were found to be approx. 6% (n=490). Conclusion: The most common blood group among donors was O Rh positive and the least common was Bombay blood group. Every blood bank should have a record of frequency of ABO and Rh grouping as it is important for its effective management. Safe transfusion reduces the risk of transfusion transmitted illnesses and thus promotes patient safety

Our aim was to explore the link between each one factor and GDM development. Methods: All women having given birth at Lille University Medical Center (Lille, France) between August 1st, 2017, and February 28th, 2018, were tested for GDM, using the method recommended in the French national guidelines. The risk of GDM was assessed for each ABO blood group, each Rh phenotype and combinations thereof, using logistic regression models. Results: 1194 women had at least one GDM risk factor. The percentage of GDM varied with the ABO group (p=0.013). Relative to group O women, group AB women were more likely to develop GDM (OR = 2.50, 95% CI [1.43 to 4.36], p=0.001). Compared with the Rh-positive O group, only the Rh-positive AB group had an elevated risk of developing GDM (OR = 3.02, 95% CI [1.69 to 5.39], p < 0.001). Conclusions: Our results showed that Rh-positive group AB women have a greater risk of GDM. With a view to preventing GDM, at-risk individuals could be identified by considering the ABO blood group phenotype either as a single risk factor or in combination with other risk factors. Aim and objective: The establishment of the potential role of the infected people's ABO blood type in the virus infectivity and aggressivity could clarify the aspects of the various susceptibility to virus and play a key role in assessing its spreading potential in the future. We studied the possible association of risk of coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19) infection and severe outcomes of disease with ABO blood groups and Rh factor in the Georgian population. Materials and methods: The effect of blood type on the severity of infection in COVID-19 positive patients admitted to the First University Clinic of Tbilisi State University (Tbilisi, Georgia) from December 2020 to September 2021 was analyzed retrospectively. The odds ratio (OR) criterion was used to determine the influence of the blood group on the risk of COVID-19 infection and of severe course of the disease. Results: The incidence of COVID-19 was 1.65-fold higher in the patients with blood group II(A), and average twice lower in patients with blood groups III(B) and IV(AB), compared with the ABO blood group distribution in healthy donors of the region. The percentage of patients transferring in ICU with I(O) and II(A) blood groups was enough high (42-40%), whereas in patients with III(B) and IV(AB) blood groups very low (12-6%). There were not revealed any statistically significant differences in the distribution of the patients with Rh+ and Rh- blood groups in healthy and COVID-19 infected individuals (including those transferred in the ICU). Conclusion: The link between patients' ABO blood groups and receptivity to COVID-19 infection, progression and severity of the disease, has been detected. These results are relevant in terms of elucidating the mechanisms and risk factors of infecting and severity course of COVID-19 disease. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In addition to this classification based on the Rhesus factor, each blood group clustered into RH positive and RH negative. This study was done to identify the distribution of blood group and rhesus factors on the local blood bank.Objective: To identify the frequency of ABO blood group and RH factors distribution on voluntary blood donator at Debre Tabor blood bank from May 2014 to May 2020.Methods: A retrospective cross-sectional survey was conducted to identify the frequency of ABO and Rh factor distribution on voluntary blood donors at Debre Tabor town blood bank. The data was collected at Debre Tabor blood bank. A six-year data and a total of 19,901 bags collected blood samples were used for summarization of the data. The data was analysed by using SPSS version 21.Results: Blood group ”O” was the dominated one with 39.6% followed by blood group “A”, “B” and “AB” with 29.48%, 24.06%, and 6.7%, respectively. When we see the RH classifications, RH positive accounts the highest percentage 92.77% and the remaining 7.23% was Rh negatives.Conclusion: In this survey, the majority of blood groups were found “O” followed by “A”, “B”, and “AB”. Background: The ABO blood group and Rhesus (Rh) factor remain the most important blood group in transfusion medicine. Knowledge of ABO and rhesus blood group distribution within a population is indispensable for transfusion medicine, clinical and marriage counselling. Aims and Objectives: The objectives of this study were to provide data and compare the pattern of ABO and rhesus blood group distribution between a homogenous and a heterogenous population. Material and Methods: Blood was collected from 352 University students representing a heterogenous population and 235 primary school pupils in a local community representing homogenous population. The ABO and rhesus blood groups were determined using white tile and agglutination methods. Results: Among the 352 and 235 individuals studied in UNN and HFNP, blood groups O had the highest frequency with 54.80% and 51.06% respectively while blood group AB had the least frequency of 4.50% and 3.40% in UNN and HFNP respectively. Rhesus positive had the highest frequency of 88.63% and 95.33% while rhesus negative had the frequencies of 11.35% and 4.68% in UNN and HFNP respectively. Rhesus negative was highest among females in UNN 26 (7.37%) while males had the highest rhesus negative 7 (2.98%) in HFNP. In both study populations, there was no significant difference in ABO and rhesus blood group distribution between the males and females (P > 0.05). Conclusions: A homogenous population is associated with low prevalence of rhesus negative compared to a heterogenous population.

Abstract Background AB0 blood groups and Rhesus factor expression have been associated with carcinogenesis, response to treatment and tumor progression in several malignancies. The aim of the present study was to test the hypothesis that AB0 blood groups and Rhesus factor expression are associated with clinical outcome in patients with epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC). Methods AB0 blood groups and Rhesus factor expression were evaluated in a retrospective multicenter study including 518 patients with EOC. Their association with patients’ survival was assessed using univariate and multivariable analyses. Results Neither AB0 blood groups nor Rhesus factor expression were associated with clinico-pathological parameters, recurrence-free, cancer-specific, or overall survival. In a subgroup of patients with high-grade serous adenocarcinoma, however, blood groups B and AB were associated with a better 5-year cancer-specific survival rate compared to blood groups A and 0 (60.3 ± 8.6% vs. 43.8 ± 3.6%, p = 0.04). Yet, this was not significant in multivariable analysis. Conclusions AB0 blood groups and Rhesus factor expression are both neither associated with features of biologically aggressive disease nor clinical outcome in patients with EOC. Further investigation of the role of the blood group B antigen on cancer-specific survival in the subgroup of high-grade serous should be considered.

Abstract Objective This study aims to determine the distribution of blood groups and the demographic background of blood donors in a referral hospital in Northern Tanzania. Results The most common blood group was O (52.3%) and the least common was AB (3.18%). 97.7% of the blood donors were Rh positive and the rest were Rh negative. Most donors were young adults, representing the age group of 19–29. The majority of donors were male (88.1%) and the majority (90.8%) were replacement while the remainder was voluntary donors.

Background and Aims: Helicobacter pylori infection currently become as an endemic worldwide health issue. The infection causes variety of gastrointestinal diseases. The role of blood groups is established in body’s response to microorganisms and the development of gastrointestinal disorders. This study aimed to investigate the relationship between blood groups, age and gender of Iranian population and the severity of infection with this bacteria. Materials and Methods: The study included 160 patients with dyspepsia symptoms referred to Hajar hospital in Shahrekord. Biopsy specimens were investigated in terms of being infected with H. pylori by using PCR for 16SRNA gene and glmM gene and blood groups of patients were determined by using hemagglutination routine test. Results and Conclusions: It was observed that 61.87% of patients were positive in terms of bacteria existence and 61 of them were negative. 62.26% of infected patients with bacteria were female. The highest frequency of ABO blood groups among infected patients, belongs to O blood group with 40.66 percent (P>0.05). H. pylori was found in 77.12% of Rh+ patients (P 0.05). The severity of this bacterial disease were observed in patients with blood group O more than others (P< 0.05). Rh positive in infected patients and O blood group may cause to severity of H. pylori infection.

Background: The knowledge of the ABO blood group phenotype of the patients and their correlation with the periodontal disease maybe important in the development of early treatment strategies, and it would be helpful to target non-responding areas to periodontal therapy of the susceptible individuals. Aims: The present study was conducted to determine whether there was any correlation between periodontal diseases and ABO blood groups and Rh factor. Material and Method: This study was carried out on 537 subjects attending Faculty of Dental Sciences OPD in BHU. Subjects were divided into three groups: group I (healthy subjects), group II (subjects with gingivitis), and group III (subjects with periodontitis) based on periodontal examination (Gingival index, Bleeding Index, Probing pocket depth and clinical attachment level). ABO Blood grouping were done and correlated with the periodontal status of study subjects. Statistical Analysis: Data was analyzed using the statistical software namely Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS, Version 16, IBM Analytics) and Systat 8.0. Results: In this study, there was a greater prevalence of gingivitis in blood group O and periodontitis in blood group B. The blood group AB showed the least prevalence of periodontal diseases. Similarly gingivitis and peridontitis were significantly higher among Rhesus positive groups when compared with Rhesus negative groups. Conclusion: Considering the results of this study, it can be concluded that ABO blood groups and Rh factor could be a risk factor for the development of periodontal disease.

Materials and Methods: A total of 30291 patients were included to this retrospective study between September 2015- December 2017 for a period of 27 months. Patients were divided into two major groups according to age. There were 29548 (97.5%) women in the age group of 17-75 and they admitted to gynaecology and obstetrics departments. The number of children in the age group of 0-16 were 743 (2.5%) and they were admitted to paediatrics departments. ABO and Rh-blood group tests were performed by gel centrifugation method on fully automated immunohematology analyser. Data analyses were performed by using chi-Square and Monte Carlo exact test. Results: A Rh-positive had the highest rates (37% and 35.4%) among women and children, respectively and was followed by O Rh-positive (28.4%, 29.8%), B Rh-positive (16.1%, 16.9%) and AB Rh-positive (7.3%, 6.8%). AB Rh-negative had the lowest frequency as its rate was under 1%. The rate of Rh positivity was 89% and that of Rh negativity was found to be 11% in both study groups. Distribution of blood groups according to gender among children population was not found statistically significant (p>0.05). Conclusion: The present results were similar to data obtained from previous studies in Turkey, but indicated a different ABO and Rh-blood group profile compared to many studies worldwide because of genetic and ethnic factors. Objective: To retrospectively evaluate the distribution of ABO and RhD blood groups and their relationship with diseases., Methods: The retrospective study was carried out in Bursa Uludag University Family Health Center in Turkey between 1-28 February, 2023. The data of individuals who were registered with the Family Health Center and whose blood types were known were evaluated retrospectively. Blood group type, sociodemographic findings, existing diseases, allergies, and genetic disease conditions were obtained. P-values below 0.05 were considered statistically significant. Analysis were made in the SPSS 25.0 program., Results: A total of 3834 people, 1935 male (50.5%) and 1899 female (49.5%) participated in the study. The mean age of the individuals was 26.45±10.45 years. About 75.8 percent of the participants were university students, 6.3 percent were health workers, and 17.9 percent were from other occupational groups. The rates of blood groups were determined as O Rh D+ at 33.5%, AB Rh D+ at 26.9%, A Rh D+ at 14.9%, AB Rh D- at 7.7%, B Rh D+ at 7%, O Rh D- at 4.6%, B Rh D- at 3.2% and A Rh D- at 2.2%. It was determined that the O Rh D- group had a higher rate of genetic disease than the other groups (p=0.01)., Conclusion: It was determined that the O Rh D+ blood group was found more frequently in our region's population than in other groups. This different result depending on the A Rh D+ blood group, which is the most common throughout the country may have reflected the influence of different geographical regions and ethnic characteristics due to the students in our population. Background: The ABO blood group and Rhesus (Rh) factor remain the most important blood group in transfusion medicine. Knowledge of ABO and rhesus blood group distribution within a population is indispensable for transfusion medicine, clinical and marriage counselling. Aims and Objectives: The objectives of this study were to provide data and compare the pattern of ABO and rhesus blood group distribution between a homogenous and a heterogenous population. Material and Methods: Blood was collected from 352 University students representing a heterogenous population and 235 primary school pupils in a local community representing homogenous population. The ABO and rhesus blood groups were determined using white tile and agglutination methods. Results: Among the 352 and 235 individuals studied in UNN and HFNP, blood groups O had the highest frequency with 54.80% and 51.06% respectively while blood group AB had the least frequency of 4.50% and 3.40% in UNN and HFNP respectively. Rhesus positive had the highest frequency of 88.63% and 95.33% while rhesus negative had the frequencies of 11.35% and 4.68% in UNN and HFNP respectively. Rhesus negative was highest among females in UNN 26 (7.37%) while males had the highest rhesus negative 7 (2.98%) in HFNP. In both study populations, there was no significant difference in ABO and rhesus blood group distribution between the males and females (P > 0.05). Objective: To explore the relationship of type 2 diabetes (T2DM) with different blood groups (A, B, AB and O) and Rhesus factor (positive or negative). Settings and duration: The study was conducted at the Biochemistry Department of Baqai Medical University from January 2015 to December 2015. Subjects and Methods: A total of 400 individuals were enrolled with 200 known type 2 diabetic patients and 200 healthy controls. Written informed consent was obtained from each study participant. Convenient sampling technique was adopted. Blood grouping procedure was based on Agglutination principle. The quantitative determination of hemoglobin A1C was done in hemosylate derived from whole blood on Roche automated clinical chemistry analyzer. Results: It was observed that blood group B was significantly more common among diabetic subjects (p-value <0.05), whereas blood group A was significantly less common in diabetic subjects as compared to non-diabetic subjects (p-value <0.05). No significant difference was found in terms of Rhesus factor among diabetic and nondiabetic subjects. Conclusion: The outcomes suggest that frequency of blood group B is significantly higher in type 2 diabetes while frequency of blood group A is significantly lower in type 2 diabetes as compared to non-diabetes. Background: AB0 blood groups and Rhesus factor expression have been associated with carcinogenesis, response to treatment and tumor progression in several malignancies. The aim of the present study was to test the hypothesis that AB0 blood groups and Rhesus factor expression are associated with clinical outcome in patients with epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC).Methods: AB0 blood groups and Rhesus factor expression were evaluated in a retrospective multicenter study including 518 patients with EOC. Their association with patients' survival was assessed using univariate and multivariable analyses.Results: Neither AB0 blood groups nor Rhesus factor expression were associated with clinico-pathological parameters, recurrence-free, cancer-specific, or overall survival. In a subgroup of patients with high-grade serous adenocarcinoma, however, blood groups B and AB were associated with a better 5-year cancer-specific survival rate compared to blood groups A and 0 (60.3 ± 8.6% vs. 43.8 ± 3.6%, p = 0.04). Yet, this was not significant in multivariable analysis.Conclusions: AB0 blood groups and Rhesus factor expression are both neither associated with features of biologically aggressive disease nor clinical outcome in patients with EOC. Latent toxoplasmosis is known to be associated with specific changes in animal and human behavior and human personality. Many toxoplasmosis-associated shifts, such as an extroversion-introversion shift or a trust-suspicion shift, go in opposite directions in men and women. The stress coping hypothesis suggests that such behavioral effects of toxoplasmosis are side effects of chronic stress caused by lifelong parasitosis and associated health disorders. Several studies have searched for, and typically found, indices of impaired health in infected subjects. However, subjects were always aware of their toxoplasmosis status, which could influence obtained data and cause false-positive results of the studies. Here we searched for differences in physical and mental health status among 39 Toxoplasma-infected and 40 Toxoplasma-free female university students who completed identical questionnaires (N-70, and anamnestic questionnaire), before and 3 years after they were informed of their toxoplasmosis status. Our results showed that infected women showed indices of poorer health status, not only after, but also before they were informed of their infection. In accordance with previously published data, these indices were more numerous and stronger in Rh-negative than in Rh-positive women. Present results suggest that observed indices of poorer health and symptoms of chronic stress in Toxoplasma-infected subjects are real. Due to its high (30%) prevalence, toxoplasmosis could represent an important factor for public health.

Objective: This study aims to determine the distribution of blood groups and the demographic background of blood donors in a referral hospital in Northern Tanzania. Results: The most common blood group was O (52.3%) and the least common was AB (3.18%). 97.7% of the blood donors were Rh positive and the rest were Rh negative. Most donors were young adults, representing the age group of 19-29. The majority of donors were male (88.1%) and the majority (90.8%) were replacement while the remainder was voluntary donors. Introduction: Although several studies have investigated the relationship between ABO blood group and medical diseases, few reports have explored the association with oral diseases, including periodontal disease (PD). Aim: The aim of this literature review was to assess the association between the ABO blood grouping and PD. Methods: We searched PubMed and Google Scholar databases using the following terms in different combinations: "ABO blood group," "periodontitis," "aggressive periodontitis (AP)," "risk factor," and "Rhesus factor." Databases were searched for articles published from 1977 to August 2016. Titles and abstracts of articles were screened for English-language papers describing clinical studies, case reports, or retrospective studies of oral health status in patients with different ABO blood groups. Letters to the editor, historic reviews, and articles including unpublished data were excluded. Reference lists of included studies were reviewed for additional original and review studies. Results: We identified eight articles describing studies of the relationship between ABO blood groups and PD. The findings suggested a possible genetic basis in the association of the blood group AB with AP. Four studies showed that chronic periodontitis was more common among patients with blood group O. Background and Aims: Helicobacter pylori infection currently become as an endemic worldwide health issue. The infection causes variety of gastrointestinal diseases. The role of blood groups is established in body's response to microorganisms and the development of gastrointestinal disorders. This study aimed to investigate the relationship between blood groups, age and gender of Iranian population and the severity of infection with this bacteria. Materials and Methods: The study included 160 patients with dyspepsia symptoms referred to Hajar hospital in Shahrekord. Biopsy specimens were investigated in terms of being infected with H. pylori by using PCR for 16SRNA gene and glmM gene and blood groups of patients were determined by using hemagglutination routine test. Results and Conclusions: It was observed that 61.87% of patients were positive in terms of bacteria existence and 61 of them were negative. 62.26% of infected patients with bacteria were female. The highest frequency of ABO blood groups among infected patients, belongs to O blood group with 40.66 percent (P>0.05). H. pylori was found in 77.12% of Rh+ patients (P<0.05). There is not significant relation between sex and age with infection (p> 0.05). The severity of this bacterial disease were observed in patients with blood group O more than others (P< 0.05). Aim of investigation. To detect phenotypic and genotypic features of the full-term newborns with delayed conjugation jaundice in relation to gender of the patient.Material and methods. The group of full-term children (n=251) with delayed conjugation jaundice was investigated, that have been divided in two subgroups according to gender. All patients underwent complex clinical and laboratory, instrumental and immunologic investigation. Features of pregnancy and delivery course, weight and height scores and children disease spectrum, blood groups and Rhesus factor were investigated.Results. It was known, that prevailing genotypic changes in boys – increased proportion of 0 (I) groups and decreased proportion of A (II) blood group, as well as increase of proportion of phenotypes 0 Rh + and decrease of A Rh + in boys prevail in comparison to girls and control group, while in girls environmental factors (complicated course of pregnancy and delivery) have more pronounced effect. Boys and girls differ by disease spectrum. Assessment of these diseases shows, that state of girls was more severe.Conclusions. The original study allows to conclude, that children with delayed conjugation jaundice in neonatal period belong to risk group for development of complications at action of harmful external factors over the liver.

In this investigation we studied the blood group affiliation of the Bulgarian population from Middle Mizia according to the ABO systems and Rhesus factor in connection with the complicated ethnos of the Bulgarians. The sample comprised 769 individuals of both sexes. The defined distribution of the groups from the ABO system was established in the studied population. The comparison with a control group from the Bulgarian population was made. The following differences were established - a decreased presence of the blood group A and an increasing of the blood group B and of the blood group AB The differences by the blood group A are significant. There are no differences by the Rhesus factor. According to the group from Troyan, however, the data shows a presence of a mongoloid admixture. A significant decreasing of the blood group A was observed and weak presence of the negative Resus factor.

Background: The presence or absence of blood group antigens has been associated with various diseases, with antigens also acting as receptors for infectious agents. Scanty literature is available in assessing the relative liability of blood group phenotypes to periodontal diseases. This research was conducted to determine the association of the ABO blood group and Rhesus (Rh) factor to periodontal diseases to assess whether they could be the predictors of periodontal diseases. Materials and Methods: A total of 1,220 subjects aged between 20 and 55 years were selected on a random basis. The study populations were segregated into three groups according to Ramfjord′s periodontal disease index: Healthy, Gingivitis and Periodontitis. Blood samples were collected to identify the ABO blood groups and the Rh factor by the slide method. Results: Blood group A showed a significantly higher percentage in the gingivitis group and blood group O showed a higher percentage in the periodontitis group. The blood group AB showed the least percentage of periodontal diseases. The distribution of Rh factor in all groups showed a significantly higher distribution of Rh-positive. Conclusion: The genetic factors may alter the oral ecology and the process of periodontal disease. These data are suggestive of a broad correlation between periodontal diseases and blood groups, which may act as risk predictors for periodontal diseases. This will make it possible to better-understand the risk factors of diseases of the periodontal tissues and to predict the effective methods of prevention and treatment of periodontal diseases.

Objectives: The study was conducted to emphasize the sensitivity and specificity of dental pulp in identifying the ABO Blood group, Rhesus factor and also to emphasize the role of dental pulp in forensic odontology to identify the deceased individual. Materials and Methods: The study was conducted on 60 patients. The samples obtained from finger-prick method from those 60 patients were considered as control and the samples obtained from the pulp were considered as case. The blood grouping, Rhesus typing for capillary blood drawn by finger prick was done by slide-agglutination method and the blood grouping, Rhesus typing for extracted dental pulp was done by absorption-elution method. Results: Fifty seven teeth out of sixty showed positive results. Blood group elicited from capillary blood done by slide-agglutination method matched with that of the pulpal blood group elicited by absorption-elution method. Three showed negative results. Conclusion: As the teeth are the hardest, most stable biological material, resist adverse environmental conditions and the pulpal tissue inside the teeth is well protected, the blood group antigen from pulp remains stable for long. Thus, the high potential value of dental pulp tissue is highlighted in this study.

The parasitic protozoan Toxoplasma gondil infects about one-third of the population of developed countries. The life-long presence of dormant stages of this parasite in the brain and muscular tissues of infected humans is usually considered asymptomatic from the clinical point of view. In the past 20years, research performed mostly on military personnel, university students, pregnant women and blood donors has shown that this 'asymptomatic' disease has a large influence on various aspects of human life. Toxoplasma-infected subjects differ from uninfected controls in the personality profile estimated with two versions of Cattell's 16PF, Cloninger's TCI and Big Five questionnaires. Most of these differences increase with the length of time since the onset of infection, suggesting that Toxoplasma influences human personality rather than human personality influencing the probability of infection. Toxoplasmosis increases the reaction time of infected subjects, which can explain the increased probability of traffic accidents in infected subjects reported in three retrospective and one very large prospective case-control study. Latent toxoplasmosis is associated with immunosuppression, which might explain the increased probability of giving birth to a boy in Toxoplasma-infected women and also the extremely high prevalence of toxoplasmosis in mothers of children with Down syndrome. Toxoplasma-infected male students are about 3cm taller than Toxoplasma-free subjects and their faces are rated by women as more masculine and dominant. These differences may be caused by an increased concentration of testosterone. Toxoplasma also appears to be involved in the initiation of more severe forms of schizophrenia. At least 40 studies confirmed an increased prevalence of toxoplasmosis among schizophrenic patients. Toxoplasma-infected schizophrenic patients differ from Toxoplasma-free schizophrenic patients by brain anatomy and by a higher intensity of the positive symptoms of the disease. Finally, five independent studies performed in blood donors, pregnant women and military personnel showed that RhO blood group positivity, especially in RhD heterozygotes, protects infected subjects against various effects of latent toxoplasmosis, such as the prolongation of reaction times, an increased risk of traffic accidents and excessive pregnancy weight gain. The modern human is not a natural host of Toxoplasma. Therefore, it can only be speculated which of the observed effects of latent toxoplasmosis are the result of the manipulation activity of the Toxoplasma aimed to increase the probability of its transmission from a natural intermediate to the definitive host by predation, and which are just side effects of chronic infection. Background: Blood groups and phenylthiocarbamide (PTC) are the most studied genetic traits among human populations around the world. In most of these studies, PTC taste sensitivity was described as a bimodal autosomal trait inherited in a simple Mendelian recessive pattern. ABO blood group is the most studied blood groups followed by Rhesus factors (Rh) and haemoglobin variants. Information from the study of these traits is useful to biologists, geneticists, anthropologists and clinicians. No information on the prevalence and gene frequencies of these traits among a population from Nigeria. Aim: This study presents information on the prevalence and gene frequencies of PTC taste sensitivity, ABO blood group and Rhesus factor, and Haemoglobin variants from male and female Nigerians examined. Subjects and methods: A total of 232 (51.33%) male and 220 (48.67%) female Nigerians participated in this study. Filter paper impregnated with 81.25 mg/L of saturated solution of PTC was used to determine PTC tasters, while blood group phenotypes, Rhesus factor and haemoglobin types were determined by classical method. Hardy-Weinberg method was used to determine allelic frequencies and graphpad 5 computer software was used for the data processing. Results: The percentage frequency for non tasters of PTC was 29.42% with allele frequency t= 0.5424. There were more male (33.62%) non tasters than female (25.0%), but more female (75.0%) tasters than male (66.38%). This observation was statistically significant (p= 0.0444). Our findings support the bimodal inheritance of PTC taste sensitivity among Nigerians. Overall trend of ABO blood group was O > B >A > AB. This same trend was observed for females but differed for males (O> B = A> AB). O blood group was the highest while AB group was the least among studied Nigerians in both genders. The distribution pattern did not differ significantly (p= 0.1406) from those expected under Hardy-Weinberg Law. 93.14% of the studied population was Rh+ (DD and Dd) and there were more Rh+ males than females but more Rh- females than males. The proportions and distributions of Rh factor among studied population did not show statistical significance (X2= 0.6047, df = 1, P = 0.4624). The overall allele frequency of the blood group as computed according to Hardy-Weinberg Law is r = 0.8201, q= 0.0977 and p= 0.0822. Similar trend in allele frequency was observed for both genders. The allele frequency for Rh+ (D) is 0.7381 and Rh+ (d)= 0.2619. This trend is also similar in both sexes. Among the six haemoglobin variants common to Nigerians CC was not detected in our study. The other five were observed in the order AA (76.55%)> AS (20.35%)> AC (1.99%) > SS (0.66%) >SC (0.44%). The overall allele frequency was A =0.8772, S =0.1106, C = 0.0122. ConclusionThe findings from this study provide information on the studied traits. It will provide background information for further studies and will be useful to clinicians, geneticists and anthropologists with respect to blood transfusion, marriage counseling and population studies. In humans, NH3 transport across cell membranes is facilitated by the Rh (rhesus) family of proteins. Human Rh C glycoprotein (RhCG) forms a trimeric complex that plays an essential role in ammonia excretion and renal pH regulation. The X-ray crystallographic structure of human RhCG, determined at 2.1 Å resolution, reveals the mechanism of'ammonia transport. Each monomer contains 12 transmembrane helices, one more than in the bacterial homologs. Reconstituted into proteoliposomes, RhCG conducts NH3 to raise internal pH. Models of the erythrocyte Rh complex based on our RhCG structure suggest that the erythrocytic Rh complex is composed of stochastically assembled heterotrimers of RhAG, RhD. and RhCE.
