OBJETIVO: O presente estudo teve como objetivo analisar dados epidemiológicos da prevalência de hanseníase no Estado do Tocantins no período de 2015 a 2020. MÉTODO: Foi realizado um estudo epidemiológico descritivo com dados obtidos pelo Sistema de Informação de Agravos e Notificação (SINAN), tendo como sujeito de pesquisa a população residente no Tocantins. As variáveis analisadas foram: Prevalência, sexo, idade, localidade, escolaridade e tipo de saída. RESULTADOS: Foram registrados 9789 casos de hanseníase, sendo 5413(55,3%) do sexo masculino e 4376 (44,7%) do sexo feminino. A faixa etária mais acometida foi de 20 a 59 anos com 6577 (67,2%), não teve relação direta com o nível de escolaridade e a quanto ao tipo de saída a maioria obteve cura. CONCLUSÃO: Os resultados demonstraram a gravidade dessa doença no Tocantins, que mesmo antiga, essa patologia continua sendo um sério problema de saúde pública e necessita de maior esclarecimento para a população quanto a transmissão, tratamento e prevenção, diminuindo, assim, o preconceito e levando a busca pelo tratamento adequado. OBJETIVO: Analisar a prevalência de retinopatia diabética nos pacientes atendidos no Hospital de Olhos do Tocantins, localizado na cidade de Araguaína, no ano de 2020. MÉTODOS: Estudo epidemiológico realizado por meio da análise de prontuários de pacientes atendidos no Hospital de Olhos do Tocantins, da cidade de Araguaína, no ano de 2020. As variáveis analisadas foram: idade, sexo, uso de insulina, tempo de tratamento da diabetes, tipo de retinopatia diabética, hipertensão arterial e presença de catarata. Os dados foram coletados mediante acesso ao Sistema de Gestão Hospitalar Gemmius® implantado e utilizado no hospital em estudo, e em seguida realizou-se a tabulação dos dados através do aplicativo Microsoft Excel. RESULTADOS: Foram selecionados 236 prontuários de pacientes atendidos no ano 2020 com este diagnóstico. Após a análise observou-se que 48,73% dos pacientes tinham idade entre 41 a 60 anos, 47,46% tinham mais que 60 anos e 3,81% de 0 a 40 anos. Em relação ao sexo 55,08% eram indivíduos do sexo masculino e 44,92% do sexo feminino. Quanto ao uso de insulina, 41,95% faziam uso e 58,05% não usavam. Dentre os pacientes avaliados, 65,25% apresentavam diagnóstico de hipertensão arterial e 68,22% diagnóstico de catarata. Em se tratando do tempo de tratamento de diabetes 48,56% faziam tratamento entre 6 e 15 anos, já em relação ao tipo de retinopatia diabética, a proliferativa mostrou-se mais relevante sendo 39,83% delas. CONCLUSÃO: Dos pacientes que faziam uso de insulina, 48,98% apresentavam retinopatia diabética proliferativa, e 43,83% tratavam a mais de 15 anos de diabetes mellitus. OBJETIVO: Avaliar a epidemiologia de pacientes diagnosticados com degeneração macular relacionada à idade atendidos no Hospital de Olhos do Tocantins, da cidade de Araguaína no ano de 2020. MÉTODO: Trata-se de um estudo, descritivo, transversal e analítico com uma abordagem quantitativa. A pesquisa ocorreu no município de Araguaína (Tocantins) no Hospital dos Olhos do Tocantins. A amostra é composta por 103 pacientes atendidos no período do ano 2020 que apresentaram Degeneração Macular Relacionada a Idade (DMRI) e que se adequaram aos critérios de inclusão e exclusão. Foram coletadas informações por meio de prontuários e os dados tabulados pelo Microsoft Excel. O estudo seguiu em conformidade com a Resolução n°466/12 do Conselho Nacional de Saúde. RESULTADOS: Entre os 103 amostrados, a pesquisa mostrou que o público mais acometido é o entre a faixa etária de 60 e 79 anos de idade, do sexo feminino. No que se refere a história de Hipertensão Arterial Sistêmica foi maior o número de pacientes diagnosticados com a comorbidade. Quanto a forma clínica da doença houveram mais casos de DMRI na sua variante seca, dentre esses houve predominância de boa acuidade visual. Na forma úmida houve baixa visual mais significativa e na avançada mais casos de baixa acuidade visual, sendo essa considerada cegueira legal. CONCLUSÃO: Os resultados encontrados no presente estudo estão de acordo com a literatura. Dessa forma, a detecção precoce de pacientes com DMRI torna-se fundamental para evitar a sua evolução para formas clínicas mais graves que cursam com cegueira legal. Palavras chave: Retinopatias. OBJETIVO: Identificar estudos que relatem sobre o uso de plantas medicinais por mulheres gestantes ou lactantes. MÉTODOS: Foi realizada uma revisão integrativa (RI) da literatura nacional com abordagem retrospectiva, no período de 2010 a 2020, disponíveis nas bases de dados SciELO, PubMed e Google Acadêmico, utilizando palavras chave: plantas medicinais na gravidez, fitoterápicos na gestação, fitoterapia materna, gestação e amamentação e uso de plantas medicinais. RESULTADOS: Foram selecionados seis estudos, que atenderam aos critérios de inclusão/exclusão, cinco são artigos publicados em periódicos e uma dissertação. Observa-se com os resultados que todas as gestantes analisadas fizeram uso de algum chá de espécie vegetal e que a maior parte não sabiam dos riscos que esse consumo inadequado poderia trazer para o feto. CONCLUSÃO: O uso de plantas medicinais é uma prática comum entre as gestantes e lactantes e devido a capacidade abortiva de algumas espécies deve-se ter conhecimento dos riscos e das quantidades/concentrações seguras antes da utilização. Ultraviolet (UV) radiation has contributed to the onset of various skin diseases, including skin cancer. Consequently, there are a series of incentives for research and development of innovative photoprotectors that can provide protection against such health problems. With the growing consumer interest in cosmetic products of natural origin, there has been an increase in new proposals such as the replacement of synthetic assets with molecules extracted from medicinal plants that present activity compatible or superior to synthetic products and with lesser environmental impact. Natural photoprotectors are gaining attention within this scenario, and some previous studies have demonstrated their potential for use. A literature review was conducted on the main groups and active principles of plants with photoprotective activity and for this purpose we used national and international scientific articles from the Medline/PubMed, SCIELO, LILACs, Science Direct, Scopus and Google Scholar databases. We mentioned 17 different species of medicinal plants with photoprotective action and their respective active ingredients. The flavonoid group was the most cited and studied in relation to the protective capacity against ultraviolet radiation and its isolated action and synergistic action was highlighted. Studies show that plant extracts from different plant species have a photoprotective action, among which they highlight the rich in antioxidant compounds, such as plants of the species Ginkgo biloba, Psidium guajava, Camellia sinensis and Lippia sp. which stand out for their large amount of polyphenols, especially flavonoids. La radiación ultravioleta (UV) ha contribuido a la aparición de varias enfermedades de la piel, incluido el cáncer de piel. En consecuencia, existen una serie de incentivos para la investigación y el desarrollo de fotoprotectores innovadores que pueden proporcionar protección contra tales problemas de salud. Con el creciente interés de los consumidores por los productos cosméticos de origen natural, se ha producido un aumento de nuevas propuestas, como la sustitución de activos sintéticos por moléculas extraídas de plantas medicinales que tienen actividad compatible o superior a los productos sintéticos y con menor impacto ambiental. Los fotoprotectores naturales están ganando atención dentro de este escenario, y algunos estudios previos han demostrado su potencial de uso. Se llevó a cabo una revisión de la literatura sobre los principales grupos y principios activos de las plantas con actividad fotoprotectora y para ello utilizamos artículos científicos nacionales e internacionales de las bases de datos Medline/PubMed, SCIELO, LILACs, Science Direct, Scopus y Google Scholar. Mencionamos 17 especies diferentes de plantas medicinales con acción fotoprotectora y sus respectivos ingredientes activos. El grupo flavonoide fue el más citado y estudiado en relación con la capacidad protectora contra la radiación ultravioleta y se destacó su acción aislada y su acción sinérgica. Los estudios demuestran que los extractos de plantas de diferentes especies vegetales tienen acción fotoprotectora, entre las que destacan las ricas en compuestos antioxidantes, como plantas de las especies Ginkgo biloba, Psidium guajava, Camellia sinensis y Lippia sp. que destacan por su gran cantidad de polifenoles, especialmente flavonoides. A radiação ultravioleta (UV) tem contribuído para o surgimento de várias doenças de pele, incluindo o câncer de pele. Consequentemente, há uma série de incentivos para a pesquisa e desenvolvimento de fotoprotetores inovadores que possam fornecer proteção contra tais problemas de saúde. Com o crescente interesse dos consumidores por produtos cosméticos de origem natural, houve um aumento de novas propostas, como a substituição de ativos sintéticos por moléculas extraídas de plantas medicinais que apresentam atividade compatível ou superior a produtos sintéticos e com menor impacto ambiental. Foi realizada uma revisão de literatura sobre os principais grupos e princípios ativos de plantas com atividade fotoprotetora e para isso utilizou-se artigos científicos nacionais e internacionais das bases de dados Medline/PubMed, SCIELO, LILACs, Science Direct, Scopus e Google Scholar. Estudos comprovam que extratos vegetais de diferentes espécies de plantas apresentam ação fotoprotetora, dentre estes destacam os ricos em compostos antioxidantes, como por exemplo plantas da espécie Ginkgo biloba, Psidium guajava, Camellia sinensis e Lippia sp. as quais destacam-se por sua grande quantidade de polifenois, em especial dos flavonoides.

The weed Adenocalymma peregrinum that is popularly known in Brazil as “ciganinha”, belongs to the family Bignoniaceae. The only way to control this plant species in crop fields is by the application of herbicides on the stump or directly on the stem. The present study aimed to analyze the effect of glycerine in controlling A. peregrinum (MIERS) L.G.Lohmann when applied on the stem. The glycerin used as a spray application of herbicide, underwent pre-purification processes with different concentrations of phosphoric acid (85%) and was characterized for water content, sulphated ash, total glycerol, matter organic non-glycerol (MONG), methanol and pH. For the analysis of the chemical composition of the stem lignin, holocellulose, extractives, calorific value and elementary quantitative determination of C, N, H, S were determined, as well as the total content of oxygen from the stem. The field work was installed at the town of Alvorada-TO, following the randomized complete block design with six treatments and four replications. Results show that the stem of A. peregrinum contains a significant amount of nitrogen, compared to other species, and high lignin content which makes it the most resistant species. The use of glycerin combined to the herbicide (picloram and triclopyr), was not efficient when compared to diesel oil. It was observed that the glycerin has potential as a vehicle for applying herbicides, leaving much to the development of new studies to make changes in its physicalchemical characteristics. We explored furanocoumarin compounds extracted from herb Ruta graveolens to suppress the blast rice disease by eliciting rice systemic resistance pathways. The plant material was subjected to the extraction method by percolation with 80% hydroethanolic solution, which allowed the obtaining of the furanocoumarins, that were monitored by HPLC.Tests were carried out in vitro and in greenhouse. The experimental design was entirely randomized with 24 treatments and 3 replicates.The concentration of 6.75 mg/mL of extract providedthe highest chitinase activity in the period of 24 and 48 hours before inoculation with the pathogen, with the latter referring to 2.67 and 2.70 mg of glic.h -1.mg prot-1, respectively, for chitinase and 6.04 and 7.84 mg of gly.h -1.mg prot-1, respectively for β-1,3-glucanase.The concentrations of 0.7 mg/mL psoralen and 1.2 mg/mL bergapten strongly induced the defense mechanisms of rice plants translating in substantial reduction of disease severity in more than 90%.These results underscore the potential application of a plant extract containing furanocoumarins to mitigate the bursting burden of rice by increasing the mechanisms of systemic resistance. The use of plant extracts allows the reduction of the disease through several different mechanisms, which makes this strategy very efficient and innovative. A validation study of a reverse-phase high-performance liquid chromatographic assay for the quantification of two furanocoumarins (psoralen and bergapten) in soft extract obtained from Brosimum gaudichaudii Trécul, Moraceae, roots was conducted. The developed method was sensitive, rapid, reproducible, easy and precise, and showed linearity (r > 0.99) in the range of 10–64 μg/ml for psoralen, and 9–56 μg/ml for bergapten. It also showed a good efficiency for the photodegradation analysis of psoralen and bergapten in the soft extract. The photostability results showed that the Higuchi model presented the best fitting to the obtained data. Both chemical markers showed stability over 2.6 days, suggesting potential applications of the extract in obtaining intermediate products from this plant material. Furanocoumarins take around 30 min to be activated by UV light, reaching the maximum biological potential. Thus, the results obtained to the Higuchi model, corresponding to 2.6 days of stability, shows feasibility with future applications of these chemical markers. Background: Curcuma longa, popularly known as turmeric, contains secondary metabolites called curcuminoids (curcumin, demethoxycurcumin, and bisdemethoxycurcumin) which are responsible for its therapeutic activity. Objective: The aim of this work was to obtain capsules using C. longa soft extract, to develop and validate a method for quantification of curcuminoids, and to study the dissolution profile of the capsules. Materials and Methods: The liquid extract was obtained through the percolation method and concentrated until it is characterized as soft extract. A high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) method was developed and validated for quantification of curcuminoids in the soft extract. The granule was obtained through wet granulation process and was encapsulated and the method for quantification of the markers was covalidated. Results: The soft extract showed 3.45% of bisdemethoxycurcumin, 3.03% of demethoxycurcumin, and 14.83% of curcumin, corresponding to 21.31% of total curcuminoids. The capsules had an average weight of 420 mg with approximately 21.56 mg of curcuminoids. The capsules showed better dissolution profile in neutral medium that simulates the pH of duodenum; however, in the stability test, only the variation found for bisdemethoxycurcumin was in compliance with the permitted. Conclusions: A soft extract of C. longa standardized in the three main curcuminoids was produced, as well as hard gelatinous capsules containing a dose of 21.56 mg of total curcuminoids. Thus, a new phytotherapeutic formulation was proposed, which proves to be an interesting strategy to carry out the active principles of C. longa. The supply of glycerin derived from the pre-purification of biodiesel has increased considerably in Brazil, making it necessary to identify economic and environmentally friendly applications for this byproduct. This work aimed to develop oil-in-water (O/W) emulsions using crude glycerin treated with H 3 PO 4 for use as a vehicle for the application the herbicide Togar. The work was conducted in the laboratory of Marlebologia at the Federal University of Tocantins, Gurupi Campus. The preliminary emulsions were subjected to stability testing, and those that remained stable were diluted with the herbicide Togar (8% v v -1 ) and characterized with respect to pH, conductivity, viscosity, density and surface tension. The crude glycerin was used to develop five stable emulsions with promising physicochemical characteristics for use as vehicle for herbicide application. The conductivity and viscosity of the emulsions were high compared to diesel. Key words: Agrochemicals, residue, emulsions.

Blast, caused by the fungus Magnapor the oryzae, is one of the most widespread diseases affecting the rice crop. The use of fungicides to combat phyto pathogenic fungi causes great environmental problems. Plant extracts have been studied as an alternative method of plant pathogen control. Ruta graveolens has compounds with antifungal activity, such as furanocoumarins. The objective of this study was to test the effects of various concentrations of the standardised plant extract of R. graveolens as well as its fractions and furanocoumarins (psoralen and bergapten) on reducing M. oryzaemycelial growth. The aerial part of R. graveolens was grinded and subjected to a characterisation process, percolation, concentration, and furanocoumarin standardisation. The standardised extract was fractionated and the fractions were subjected to high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) to quantify furanocoumarins. The effects of the extract, fractions, and standards against mycelial growth ofM.oryzaewere tested in vitro. The plant material was handled in accordance with the guidelines established by the general methods of the Brazilian Pharmacopoeia. The furanocoumarin content was the highest in the ethyl acetate fraction. The best results for the mycelial growth test were observed using the extract and the hexane and ethyl acetate fractions. The standardised herbal extract of R. graveolens showed antifungal activity against M.oryzae.
