Bismaleimide (BMI) resin is an excellent performance resin, mainly due to its resistance to the effect of heat and its insulating properties. However, its lack of toughness as a cured product hampers its application in printed circuit boards (PCBs). Herein, a branched structure via Michael addition was introduced to a BMI system to reinforce its toughness. Compared with a pure BMI sample, the flexural strength of the modified BMI was enhanced, and its maximum value of 189 MPa increased by 216%. The flexural modulus of the cured sample reached 5.2 GPa. Using a scanning electron microscope, the fracture surfaces of BMI samples and a transition from brittle fracture to ductile fracture were observed. Furthermore, both the dielectric constant and the dielectric loss of the cured resin decreased. The breakdown field strength was raised to 37.8 kV/mm and the volume resistivity was improved to varying degrees. Consequently, the resulting modified BMI resin has the potential for wide application in high-frequency and low-dielectric resin substrates, and the modified BMI resin with a structure including three different diamines can meet the needs of various applications.

Context: Software developers contribute numerous changes every day to the code review systems. However, not all submitted changes are merged into a codebase because they might not pass the code review process. Some changes would be abandoned or be asked for resubmission after improvement, which results in more workload for developers and reviewers, and more delays to deliverables. Objective: To understand the underlying reasons why changes are abandoned, we conduct an empirical study on the code review of four open source projects (Eclipse, LibreOffice, OpenStack, and Qt). Method: First, we manually analyzed 1459 abandoned changes. Second, we leveraged the open card sorting method to label these changes with reasons why they were abandoned, and we identified 12 categories of reasons. Next, we further investigated the frequency distribution of the categories across projects. Finally, we studied the relationship between the categories and time-to-abandonment. Results: Our findings include the following: (1) Duplicate changes are the majority of the abandoned changes; (2) the frequency distribution of abandoned changes across the 12 categories is similar for the four open source projects; (3) 98.39% of the changes are abandoned within a year. Conclusion: Our study concluded the root causes of abandoned changes, which will help developers submit high-quality code changes.

Based on direct measurements of the Kuroshio current velocity at 18°N by an array of three moorings from January 2018 to February 2020, the intraseasonal variability (ISV) of the Kuroshio and possible dynamic mechanism are studied. The Kuroshio transport in the upper 350m between 122.7°E and 123.3°E is estimated to be 6.5 Sv ± 2.6 Sv. It is revealed for the first time that both the current velocity and volume transport the Kuroshio at 18°N have a significant 50-60-day ISV, which contributes to over 30% of the total variance. Further analysis indicates the ISV of the Kuroshio is caused by the westward propagating eddies with a wavelength of about 633 km and a propagation speed of about 13 cm/s. In addition, the transport mode (74.2%) of the Kuroshio at 18°N is dominant, rather than the migration mode (11.6%). That is different from the Kuroshio east of Taiwan. The findings of this study will highlight the important role of westward Rossby waves (eddies) with a finite wavelength in modulating the intraseasonal variability of the Kuroshio transport near its origin.

The interannual variability of the boundary currents east of the Mindanao Island, including the Mindanao Current/Undercurrent (MC/MUC), is investigated using moored acoustic Doppler current profiler (ADCP) measurements combined with a series of numerical experiments. The ADCP mooring system was deployed east of the Mindanao Island at 7 degrees 59 ' N, 127 degrees 3 ' E during December 2010-August 2014. Depth-dependent interannual variability is detected in the two western boundary currents: strong and lower-frequency variability dominates the upper-layer MC, while weaker and higher-frequency fluctuation controls the subsurface MUC. Throughout the duration of mooring measurements, the weakest MC was observed in June 2012, in contrast to the maximum peaks in December 2010 and June 2014, while in the deeper layer the MUC shows speed peaks circa December 2010, January 2011, April 2013, and July 2014 and valleys circa June 2011, August 2012, and November 2013. Diagnostic analysis and numerical sensitivity experiments using a 2.5-layer reduced-gravity model indicate that wind forcing in the western Pacific Ocean is a driving agent in conditioning the interannual variability of MC and MUC. Results suggest that westward-propagating Rossby waves that generate in the western Pacific Ocean (roughly 150 degrees-180 degrees E) are of much significance in the interannual variability of the two boundary currents. Fluctuation of Ekman pumping due to local wind stress curl anomaly in the far western Pacific Ocean (roughly 120 degrees-150 degrees E) also plays a role in the interannual variability of the MC. The relationship between the MC/MUC and El Nino is discussed.

Pacific Ocean western boundary currents and the interlinked equatorial Pacific circulation system were among the first currents of these types to be explored by pioneering oceanographers. The widely accepted but poorly quantified importance of these currents-in processes such as the El Niño/Southern Oscillation, the Pacific Decadal Oscillation and the Indonesian Throughflow-has triggered renewed interest. Ongoing efforts are seeking to understand the heat and mass balances of the equatorial Pacific, and possible changes associated with greenhouse-gas-induced climate change. Only a concerted international effort will close the observational, theoretical and technical gaps currently limiting a robust answer to these elusive questions.

A large project (e.g., Ubuntu) usually contains a large number of software packages. Sometimes the same bug report in such project would affect multiple packages, and developers of different packages need to collaborate with one another to fix the bug. Unfortunately, the total number of packages involved in a project like Ubuntu is relatively large, which makes it time-consuming to manually identify packages that are affected by a bug report. In this paper, we propose an approach named PkgRec that consists of 2 components: a name matching component and an ensemble learning component. In the name matching component, we assign a confidence score for a package if it is mentioned by a bug report. In the ensemble learning component, we divide the training dataset into n subsets and build a sub-classifier on each subset. Then we automatically determine an appropriate weight for each sub-classifier and combine them to predict the confidence score of a package being affected by a new bug report. Finally, PkgRec combines the name matching component and the ensemble learning component to assign a final confidence score to each potential package. A list of top-k packages with the highest confidence scores would then be recommended. We evaluate PkgRec on 3 datasets including Ubuntu, OpenStack, and GNOME with a total number of 42,094 bug reports. We show that PkgRec could achieve recall@5 and recall@10 scores of 0.511-0.737, and 0.614-0.785, respectively. We also compare PkgRec with other state-of-art approaches, namely LDA-KL and MLkNN. The experiment results show that PkgRec on average improves recall@5 and recall@10 scores of LDA-KL by 47% and 31%, and MLkNN by 52% and 37%, respectively.

The mean structure and variability of the North Equatorial Current/Undercurrent (NEC/NEUC) are investigated with one-year Acoustic Doppler Current Profilers measurements from 4 subsurface moorings deployed at 10.5°N, 13°N, 15.5°N, and 18°N along 130°E in the western Pacific. The strong westward flowing NEC ranges from the sea surface down to 400 m, and the mean zonal velocity of the NEC at 10.5°N is around −30 cm/s at the depth of 70 m. Eastward flowing NEUC jets are detected below the NEC at 10.5°N and 13°N, and the depth of the NEUC could reach at least 900 m. The mean velocity of the NEUC is around 4.2 cm/s at 800 m. No eastward undercurrents are observed at 15°N and 18°N. The mooring measurements also reveal a strong intraseasonal variability of the currents at all 4 mooring sites, and the period is around 70–120 days. The vertical structure of this intraseasonal variability varies at different latitudes. The variability of the NEUC jets at 10.5°N and 13°N appears to be dominated by subthermocline signals, while the variability of the currents at 15.5°N and 18°N is dominated by surface-intensified signals.

This study investigates the long-term change of the Pacific South Equatorial Current (SEC) bifurcation latitude (SBL) over 1950-2010 with Simple Ocean Data Assimilation version 2.2.4. Results indicate that the SBL averaged within upper 200 m has migrated southward at 0.020 degrees S yr(-1), comparable in magnitude with -0.024 degrees N yr(-1) for the North Equatorial Current bifurcation latitude (NBL). The SEC transport into the Coral Sea has increased. Due to the southward SBL migration, most of the increased SEC water was transported equatorward, contributing to the Equatorial Undercurrent intensification. Experiments with a nonlinear 1.5 layer reduced gravity model indicate that the southward migration of SBL is mainly caused by positive Ekman flux divergence trend in the eastern tropical South Pacific, while that of NBL is caused by negative Ekman flux divergence trend in the western tropical North Pacific.

In software development process, developers often seek solutions to the technical problems they encounter by searching relevant questions on Q&A sites. When developers fail to find solutions on Q&A sites in their native language (e.g., Chinese), they could translate their query and search on the Q&A sites in another language (e.g., English). However, developers who are non-native English speakers often are not comfortable to ask or search questions in English, as they do not know the proper translation of the Chinese technical words into the English technical words. Furthermore, the process of manually formulating cross-language queries and determining the weight of query words is a tedious and time-consuming process.For the purpose of helping Chinese developers take advantage of the rich knowledge base of the English version of Stack Overflow and simplify the retrieval process, we propose an automated crosslanguage relevant question retrieval (CLRQR) system to retrieve relevant English questions on Stack Overflow for a given Chinese question. Our CLRQR system first extracts essential information (both Chinese and English) from the title and description of the input Chinese question, then performs domain-specific translation of the essential Chinese information into English, and formulates a query with highest-scored English words for retrieving relevant questions in a repository of 684,599 Java questions in English from Stack Overflow. To evaluate the performance of our proposed approach, we also propose four online retrieval approaches as baselines. We randomly select 80 Java questions in SegmentFault and V2EX (two Chinese Q&A websites for computer programming) as the query Chinese questions. Each approach returns top-10 most relevant questions for a given Chinese question. We invite 5 users to evaluate the relevance of the retrieved English questions. The experiment results show that CLRQR system outperforms the four baseline approaches, and the statistical tests show the improvements are significant.

The origin of the Luzon Undercurrent (LUC) was studied by a climatological simulation using a high-resolution quasi-global HYbrid Coordinate Ocean Model, configured with climatological European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts wind and heat forcing. Lagrangian trajectory analysis suggests that the LUC generally originates from the confluence region of the Kuroshio and Oyashio, with its shallow, middle, and deep parts originating from corresponding parts of the North Pacific Intermediate Water (NPIW). About 86.0% (77%-93% = 95% confidence interval) of the LUC at 18 degrees N conveys low-salinity NPIW southward. The LUC plays an important role in the southward intrusion of NPIW into the tropical Pacific.
