This article, published in the journal Ultrasound in Obstetrics & Gynecology, presents the findings of a multicenter prospective study that aimed to investigate the differences in uterine contractility between women with a septate uterus and women with a normal uterus throughout the menstrual cycle. The study analyzed the characteristics of myometrial contractility in 29 patients with a septate uterus and compared them to 95 women with a normal uterus. The results showed that patients with a septate uterus had altered myometrial contraction, with lower values in contraction frequency, velocity, amplitude, and coordination compared to those with a healthy uterus. The study suggests that these alterations in uterine contractility may explain the poor reproductive outcomes observed in women with uterine malformation and highlights hysteroscopy metroplasty as a potential treatment to restore normal uterine contractility.
