In this study, nickel ferrite (NiFe 2 O 4 ) nanoparticles were synthesized using the Pechini sol-gel method and modified with sodium docusate surfactant. The modified nanoparticles showed an enhanced adsorption capacity of 384.62 mg/g for crystal violet dye, compared to 237.53 mg/g for unmodified NiFe 2 O 4 . Characterization was performed using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), X-ray diffraction (XRD), energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) techniques. The adsorption process was spontaneous, exothermic, and followed the Langmuir isotherm and pseudo-second-order kinetic model. Optimal conditions for maximum dye removal were achieved at pH 10, 50 min, and 298 K. Background: Cryptogenic stroke (CS) is an exclusion diagnosis that accounts for 10-40% of all ischemic strokes. Patent foramen ovale (PFO) is found in 66% of patients with CS, while having a prevalence of 25-30% in the general population. The primary aim was to evaluate the risk of recurrent stroke following surgical PFO closure plus medical therapy vs. medical therapy alone amongst CS, an embolic stroke of undetermined source (ESUS), or transient ischemic attack (TIA). The secondary aim was to evaluate new-onset non-valvular atrial fibrillation, mortality, and major bleeding., Methods: We conducted an umbrella meta-analysis using PRISMA guidelines on English studies comparing surgical PFO closure plus medical therapy versus medical therapy alone for managing CS. We extracted data on interventions and outcomes and used random-effects models with generic inverse variance to calculate relative risks (RRs) with 95% confidence intervals for outcome calculations., Results: A comprehensive search yielded 54,729 articles on CS and 65,001 on surgical PFO closure, with 1,591 studies focusing on PFO closure and medical therapy for secondary CS, ESUS, or TIA prevention. After excluding non-meta-analyses, 52 eligible meta-analyses were identified, and eight studies were selected for outcome evaluation, excluding non-English, non-human, and studies before January 2019 as of August 31, 2021. Among a total of 41,880 patients, 14,942 received PFO closure + medical therapy, while 26,938 patients received medical therapy alone. Our umbrella meta-analysis showed that PFO closure plus medical therapy had a 64% lower risk of recurrent strokes than medical therapy alone (pooled RR: 0.36). PFO closure plus medical therapy was associated with 4.94 times higher risk of atrial fibrillation. There was no difference in the risk of death or bleeding between both groups., Conclusion: In patients with CS, PFO closure, in addition to medical therapy, reduces the risk of recurrence. As their manufacturing and consumption have increased, pharmaceutical chemicals have increasingly been found in wastewater. It is necessary to look into more effective methods, including adsorption, because current therapies can't completely eliminate these micro contaminants. This investigation aims to assess the diclofenac sodium (DS) adsorption onto an Fe 3 O 4 @TAC@SA polymer in a static system. Through Box-Behnken design (BBD), system optimization was carried out, and the ideal conditions - adsorbent mass of 0.01 g and agitation speed of 200 rpm - were chosen. The adsorbent was created utilizing X-ray diffraction (XRD), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), allowing us to gain a comprehensive understanding of its properties. The analysis of the adsorption process revealed that the external mass transference was the primary rate-controlling step, and the Pseudo-Second-Order model demonstrated the best correlation to kinetic experimental results. An endothermic, spontaneous adsorption process took place. The removal capacity was 858 mg g -1 , which is a respectable result when compared to other adsorbents that have been utilized in the past to remove DS. Ion exchange, π-π interactions, electrostatic pore filling and hydrogen bonding all play a role in the adsorption of DS on the Fe 3 O 4 @TAC@SA polymer. Nanomaterials are the most effective class of substances for use as adsorbents in wastewater treatment. Hence, the current study involves the facile and low-cost synthesis of MgMn 2 O 4 /Mn 2 O 3 and MgMn 2 O 4 /Mn 2 O 3 /Mg 6 MnO 8 as novel nanostructures from mixed solutions of Mg(ii) and Mn(ii) ions using the Pechini sol-gel method. After that, the remaining powder was calcined at 500, 700, and 900 °C for 3 h; the products were designated as G500, G700, and G900, respectively. The G500 sample consists of MgMn 2 O 4 and Mn 2 O 3 , while the G700 and G900 samples consist of MgMn 2 O 4 , Mg 6 MnO 8 , and Mn 2 O 3 . The synthesized nanostructures were characterized using several tools, such as X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), and N 2 adsorption/desorption analysis. The average crystallite size of the G500, G700, and G900 samples is 210.53, 95.27, and 83.43 nm, respectively. The SEM images showed that the G500 sample consists of square and rectangular bars with an average diameter of 3.18 μm. Also, the G700 and G900 samples consist of hexagonal, polyhedral, and irregular shapes with an average diameter of 1.12 and 0.54 μm, respectively. The synthesized nanostructures were further utilized as adsorbents for the efficient removal of tartrazine dye from aqueous media. The experimental data showed a good fit with the Langmuir isotherm and pseudo-first-order model. The isolation and assessment of the active constituents in polar and non-polar crude extracts of Saussurea costus roots as antifungal agents, against Candida albicans and non- C . albicans (NAC) species, was the aim of this current investigation. The SEM "Scanning electron microscopy" imaging provided potential action modes of n -hexane extract ( nh hE) toward Candida spp., whereas the TLC-DB "Thin layer chromatography-direct bioautography" was employed for detecting the anticandidal compounds. nh hE had the greatest biocidal activity against all strains and clinical isolates of Candida spp. with maximum zones of inhibition. SEM revealed the occurrence of irregular, dense inclusions of C. albicans cell walls after treatment with nh hE for 12 h. Complete morphological distortions with lysed membranes and deterioration signs appeared in most treated cells of C. parapsilosis . The most effectual compound with anticandidal activity was isolated using TLC-BD and identified as sesquiterpene by GC/MS analysis. The infra-red analysis revealed the presence of lactone ring stretching vibrations at 1766.72 cm -1 . The anticandidal activity of nh hE of S. costus roots was confirmed from the results, and the treated cotton fabrics with nh hE of S. costus possessed observable activity against C. albicans . Data could recommend the practical usage of S. costus extracts, particularly nh hE, as influential natural bioactive sources for combating pathogenic Candida spp.

Exposure to nerve agents, which are usually colorless and odorless gases, may cause organ failure, paralysis, or even quick death. Diethyl chlorophosphate (DCP) has been recognized as one of the most well-known chemical warfare nerve agent mimics. In the current study, we introduce a simple strategy for the development of a portable and reversible nanocomposite-based microporous strip for naked-eye detection of DCP within a few seconds. A dicyanomethylenedihydrofuran hydrazone (DCDHF-H) chromophore was synthesized by an easy azo-coupling reaction and encapsulated in situ during the preparation of cellulose acetate/cellulose nanowhisker/hydrazone (CA-CNW-H) nanocomposites. These CA-CNW-H nanocomposites displayed a bathochromic shift in the absorption intensity of about 142 nm from 438 to 580 nm with the increase of the DCP concentration. The present CA-CNW-H sensor strip displayed a detection limit for DCP ranging from 25 to 200 ppm. The color change of CA-CNW-H from yellow to purple due to exposure to DCP was detected by CIE Lab analysis. One of the main concerns for online shopping websites is to provide efficient and customized recommendations to a very large number of users based on their preferences. Collaborative filtering (CF) is the most famous type of recommender system method to provide personalized recommendations to users. CF generates recommendations by identifying clusters of similar users or items from the user-item rating matrix. This cluster of similar users or items is generally identified by using some similarity measurement method. Among numerous proposed similarity measure methods by researchers, the Pearson correlation coefficient (PCC) is a commonly used similarity measure method for CF-based recommender systems. The standard PCC suffers some inherent limitations and ignores user rating preference behavior (RPB). Typically, users have different RPB, where some users may give the same rating to various items without liking the items and some users may tend to give average rating albeit liking the items. Traditional similarity measure methods (including PCC) do not consider this rating pattern of users. In this article, we present a novel similarity measure method to consider user RPB while calculating similarity among users. The proposed similarity measure method state user RPB as a function of user average rating value, and variance or standard deviation. The user RPB is then combined with an improved model of standard PCC to form an improved similarity measure method for CF-based recommender systems. The proposed similarity measure is named as improved PCC weighted with RPB (IPWR). The qualitative and quantitative analysis of the IPWR similarity measure method is performed using five state-of-the-art datasets (i.e. Epinions, MovieLens-100K, MovieLens-1M, CiaoDVD, and MovieTweetings). The IPWR similarity measure method performs better than state-of-the-art similarity measure methods in terms of mean absolute error (MAE), root mean square error (RMSE), precision, recall, and F-measure., Competing Interests: The authors have declared that no competing interests exist.

Advances in the field of genome engineering demand the development of efficient non-viral transfection agents capable of delivering multiple distinct nucleic acids efficiently to cells (co-transfection). However, current delivery methods result in lower co-transfection efficiency than single plasmid transfections, and the efficiency decreases further with increasing numbers of plasmids. The development of a high-throughput methodology is required for the validation of co-transfection platforms to facilitate independent tracking of not only the multiple DNA plasmids during transfection but also the localisation of transfection agents. This is pivotal to determine the bottlenecks in achieving high transfection efficiencies at various stages of the cell internalisation and plasmid expression process. Herein we demonstrate that this can be achieved using a facile methodology in which quantum dots (QDs) are used to label two different plasmid DNA assemblies that are delivered to cells simultaneously using a dendronised polymer system. Multispectral confocal imaging can be used to separate signals from each polyplex as well as the expressed fluorescent reporter proteins to determine whether co-transfection difficulties result from poor internalisation or the inability of DNA to escape from polyplexes. Dementia directly influences the quality of life of a person suffering from this chronic illness. The caregivers or carers of dementia people provide critical support to them but are subject to negative health outcomes because of burden and stress. The intervention of mobile health (mHealth) has become a fast-growing assistive technology (AT) in therapeutic treatment of individuals with chronic illness. The purpose of this comprehensive study is to identify, appraise, and synthesize the existing evidence on the use of mHealth applications (apps) as a healthcare resource for people with dementia and their caregivers. A review of both peer-reviewed and full-text literature was undertaken across five (05) electronic databases for checking the articles published during the last five years (between 2014 and 2018). Out of 6195 searches yielded articles, 17 were quantified according to inclusion and exclusion criteria. The included studies distinguish between five categories, viz., (1) cognitive training and daily living, (2) screening, (3) health and safety monitoring, (4) leisure and socialization, and (5) navigation. Furthermore, two most popular commercial app stores, i.e., Google Play Store and Apple App Store, were searched for finding mHealth based dementia apps for PwD and their caregivers. Initial search generated 356 apps with thirty-five (35) meeting the defined inclusion and exclusion criteria. After shortlisting of mobile applications, it is observed that these existing apps generally addressed different dementia specific aspects overlying with the identified categories in research articles. The comprehensive study concluded that mobile health apps appear as feasible AT intervention for PwD and their carers irrespective of limited available research, but these apps have potential to provide different resources and strategies to help this community.
