Several lncRNAs have been reported to play essential roles in the progression of papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC). Novel lncRNA inhibiting proliferation and metastasis (lnc-NLIPMT) is a known regulator of mammary cell proliferation and motility, but its involvement in PTC is unclear.Materials and Methods: We investigated the role of lnc-NLIPMT in PTC by quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR) on various PTC tissue samples and cell lines. We assessed the effects of overexpression or knockdown of lnc-NLIPMT on the proliferation, migration, and invasion of PTC cells using CCK-8, cell clone formation, and transwell assays. Changes in the expression of N-cadherin and vimentin were detected by immunoblotting.Results: Our results revealed a downregulation of the expression of lnc-NLIPMT in PTC and a negative correlation between lnc-NLIPMT expression and tumor size (P=0.006). Overexpression of lnc-NLIPMT in TPC-1 and B-CPAP cells significantly suppressed cell proliferation, migration, and invasion, while lnc-NLIPMT knockdown had the opposite effect. In addition, lnc-NLIPMT played an important role in the regulation of the expression of N-cadherin and vimentin.Conclusion: lnc-NLIPMT inhibits cell proliferation and metastasis of PTC cells and is a potential diagnostic and prognostic biomarker in PTC.Keywords: papillary thyroid carcinoma, long non-coding RNA, invasion, proliferation, metastasis

22. Nitrogen-enriched, ordered mesoporous carbons for potential electrochemical energy storage

Abstract

Nitrogen-doped (N-doped) porous carbons have drawn increasing attention due to their high activity for electrochemical catalysis, and high capacity for lithium-ion (Li-ion) batteries and supercapacitors. So far, the controlled synthesis of N-enriched ordered mesoporous carbons (N-OMCs) for Li-ion batteries is rarely reported due to the lack of a reliable nitrogen-doping protocol that maintains the ordered mesoporous structure. In order to realize this, in this work, ordered mesoporous carbons with controllable N contents were successfully prepared by using melamine, F127 and phenolic resin as the N-source, template and carbon-source respectively via a solvent-free ball-milling method. The as-prepared N-OMCs which showed a high N content up to 31.7 wt% were used as anodes for Li-ion batteries. Remarkably, the N-OMCs with an N content of 24.4 wt% exhibit the highest reversible capacity (506 mA h g−1) even after 300 cycles at 300 mA g−1 and a capacity retention of 103.3%. N-OMCs were also used as electrode materials in supercapacitors and a capacity of 150 F g−1 at 0.2 A g−1 with stable cycling up to 2500 times at 1 A g−1 was achieved. These attractive results encourage the design and synthesis of high heteroatom content ordered porous carbons for applications in the field of energy storage and conversion.

27. Catalytic gasification of lignite with KOH in supercritical water.

Abstract

Supercritical water gasification of lignite with KOH was investigated in a batch autoclave on a wide range of conditions, that is residence time (5-30 min), mass ratio of H2O to lignite (0.5-10), temperature (400-600°C) and mass ratio of KOH to lignite (0-20%). Although lignite is difficult to be gasified in supercritical water, the results indicated that gasification efficiency about 47% was achieved at 30 min, 550°C with 10% KOH. Higher mass ratio of H2O to lignite and temperature can lead to higher gas yields and GE. It is also observed that the solid residue was dispersed at low feed concentration and consolidated at high concentration. Besides KOH's improvement of water-gas shift reaction, in this case, it is also observed that KOH also enhances the gasification of aromatics of lignite in supercritical water, which leads to higher gasification efficiency of lignite. 28. Selective hydrogenation of phenol by phosphotungstic acid modified Pd/Ce-AlOx catalyst in high-temperature water system.

Abstract

Hydrogenation of phenol was investigated in a high-temperature water (HTW) system. The characterization of the catalyst used in the system was investigated by BET surface area, XRD, XPS, and TEM testing methods. The results indicated that phosphotungstic acid (PTA) modified Pd/Ce-AlO x catalyst, i.e., Pd/W-Ce-AlO x , could not only increase the values of binding energy of the major elements and thus enhance its ability in attracting electrons, but also enhance the phenol degradation and selectivity in HTW when comparing with non-PTA modified catalysts. The Pd/W-Ce-AlO x catalyst also showed a high activity for the phenol hydrogenation and high selectivity at a moderate temperature (180 °C) in HTW system, because cyclohexanone is the major products (more than 95%) from the reaction. However, at the temperatures greater than 260 °C, the changes of transport properties would increase the dissociation of cyclohexanone from the acidic sites, which resulted in the future reactions with hydrogen to form cyclohexanol rather than cyclohexane. Based on the observation, a kinetic model of detail pathways to give the insight views was proposed. The model confirmed that at higher temperatures over 260 °C, the reactions to form cyclohexanol, benzene and cyclohexane increased dramatically. In the presence of Pd/W-Ce-AlO x catalyst, the formation of benzene can be effectively suppressed. Therefore, PTA modified catalysts have a great potential to improve the hydrogen selectivity of phenol in the HTW system. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
