Loop quantum cosmology was shown to interpolate between de Sitter and FLRW Universe phases through a bounce by including Euclidean and Lorentzian terms of the Hamiltonian constraint with weight one -that corresponding to classical General Relativity. Unitary evolution required self-adjoint extensions of the constraint and a Planckian cosmological constant was obtained. Independent work took a positive weight to get a cosmological constant with the observed value, without considering unitarity. In this work we address the unitary evolution of the model for arbitrary weight. For non positive weight parameter unitary holds but for positive values self-adjoint extensions are required. Recent observations on the large-scale structure of the universe indicate that the cosmological constant cannot be the definitive answer to the nature of dark energy. Therefore, it is a good time to propose alternatives to understand the late-accelerated expansion of the universe. In this work we study the possibility that the acceleration of space-time is due to the topology of the universe. We assume that the topology of the universe is a principal fiber bundle whose base space is our 4-dimensional spacetime and the fiber is an $N$-dimensional Lie group that evolves with time. For the base space we consider a homogeneous and isotropic spacetime, we find that the base space is currently accelerating for $1 < N$ compact semi-simple Lie groups whose scale-factors are equal and for $1 < N$ non-Abelian Lie groups whose scale-factors are different and as long as its structure constants satisfy some conditions. However when we study the evolution of the density parameters these differ from the evolution within the $\Lambda$CDM model, this led us to think in the possibility of use a different group as fiber in order to obtain the right evolution of the density parameters. We conclude that it is possible that the accelerated expansion of the universe is due to consider a different topology of the universe as a principal fiber bundle., Comment: 16 pages, 5 figures

Observations with the Gaia satellite have confirmed that the satellite galaxies of the Milky Way are not distributed as homogeneously as expected. The same occurs in galaxies such as Andromeda and Centaurus A, where satellite galaxies around their host galaxies have been observed to have orbits aligned perpendicular to the galactic plane of the host galaxy. This problem is known for the Milky Way as Vast Polar Structure (VPOS). The Scalar Field Dark Matter Field (SFDM), also known as Ultralight-, Fuzzy-, BEC-, Axion-dark matter, proposes dark matter is a scalar field, which in the non-relativistic limit follows the Schr\"odinger equation coupled to the Poisson equation. Although the SF here is classical, the Schr\"odinger equation contains a ground and excited states as part of its nature. In this work, we show that such quantum character of the SFDM can naturally explain the VPOS observed in galaxies. By taking into account the finite temperature corrections for a complex, self-interacting SF at very early epochs of the Universe, we show that with the ground and first excited states in the Newtonian limit, we can fit the rotation curves of the galaxies. With the best-fit parameters obtained, we can explain the VPOS. We do this with particular galaxies, such as the Milky Way, Andromeda, Centaurus A, and six other galaxies whose satellites have been observed. This result shows that the multistate SFDM is not distributed homogeneously around the galaxy, and therefore might explain the anisotropic distribution of the satellite galaxies. According to this result, this could be a general characteristic of the galaxies in the Universe. Finally, we also show how the scale of each galaxy depends on a parameter that is determined by the final temperature of the SF of the galaxy halo under study. The Scalar Field Dark Matter model has been known in various ways throughout its history; Fuzzy, BEC, Wave, Ultralight, Axion-like Dark Matter, etc. All of them consist in proposing that the dark matter of the universe is a spinless field $\Phi$ that follows the Klein-Gordon (KG) equation of motion $\Box\Phi-dV/d\Phi=0$, for a given scalar field potential $V$. The difference between different models is sometimes the choice of the scalar field potential $V$. In the literature we find that people usually work in the nonrelativistic, weak-field limit of the KG equation where it transforms into the Schr\"odinger equation and the Einstein equations into the Poisson equation, reducing the KG-Einstein system, to the Schr\"odinger-Poisson system. In this paper, we review some of the most interesting achievements of this model from the historical point of view and its comparison with observations, showing that this model could be the last answer to the question about the nature of dark matter in the universe., Comment: 8 pages, no figures

It is a fact that the universe lives on a Gravitational Wave Background (GWB), which it may be in the form of extra energy, which is not contained in Einstein's field equations. In \cite{Matos:2021jef}, a new model was developed to explain the current accelerating expansion of the universe where a GWB was incorporated by extending Einstein's equations to $R_{\mu\nu}-\frac{1}{2}Rg_{\mu\nu}+\frac{2\pi^2}{{\lambda}^2}g_{\mu\nu}=\kappa ^2 T_{\mu\nu}$, where ${\lambda}$ is the Compton wavelength of the graviton. In the present work we show that this extended form agrees very well with the observations of Cosmic chronometers, Baryon Acoustic Oscillations and Pantheon SN type Ia, reproducing the observational data with a $\Delta\chi^2=3.26$ in favor of the present model compared to the $\Lambda$CDM. The values favored by these observations are $\Omega_{\rm m} = 0.31 \pm 0.02$, $H_0=68 \pm 0.02$ Km/s/Mpc, $\Omega_{\rm k} = 0.001\pm 0.011$; we also find an excellent consistence of this model with the Cosmic Microwave Background and the Matter Power Spectrum. One of the most challenging open questions in physics today is discovering the nature of dark matter. In this work we study the imaging formation in dark matter (DM) halos due to an external light source using some DM profiles for comparison with astronomical observations. Approaching these models on a small scale, we analyze the images generated on the lens plane by obtaining the analytical scaled surface mass densities $\Sigma_{*}(x)$ and their corresponding deflection angles $\alpha_{*}(x)$, for later applying a method for ray tracing using the gravitational refraction law. The method is able to locate the positions of the images on the lens plane, by mapping fringes that represent possible sources (such as other galaxies), placed on the source plane. The regions where the strong lensing occurs for each profile, are determined by fixing the $\lambda$ parameter that establishes the ray tracing process. It is shown that the presence of Einstein rings generated by each profile is directly related with the central branch of the caustic. This method gives us a possible alternative way to distinguish between different DM candidates by observing imaging from external sources., Comment: 14 pages, 26 figures

Recently, the Scalar Field Dark Matter (SFDM) model (also known as Fuzzy, Wave, Bose-Einstein, Ultra-light Dark Matter) has gained a lot of attention because it has provided simpler and more natural explanations for various phenomena observed in galaxies, as a natural explanation for the center of galaxies, the number of satellite galaxies around their host and, more recently, a natural explanation for anomalous trajectories of satellite galaxies called Vast Polar Orbits (VPO) observed in various galaxies. In the present work we study the assumption that the SFDM is a type of charged dark boson whose gauge charge is associated with the Dark Photon (DP). Inspired by these results, we study the formation of compact bosonic objects, such as Boson Stars (BS) and focus on the possibility that, due to spontaneous $U(1)$ SFDM symmetry breaking, the DP may acquire mass and form compact objects like Proca Stars (PS). If this is true, we can expect measurable effects on the electromagnetic field of the Standard Model (SM) of particles due to their interaction with the DP on the formation of compact objects., Comment: 12 pages, 7 figures

In this work the possible geodesic completeness of an electromagnetic dipole wormhole is studied in detail. The space-time contains a curvature singularity and belongs to a class of solutions to the Einstein-Maxwell equations with a coupled scalar field. Specifically, a numerical analysis is performed to examine congruences of null geodesics that are directed toward the singularity. The results found here show that, depending on the strength of the coupling between the scalar and electromagnetic fields, the wormhole can be either geodesically incomplete or complete. We then focus on those wormholes that are geodesically complete and study the geometry of the neighborhood of their singularity using Kaluza-Klein theory in a five-dimensional space-time. It is a matter of fact that the universe lives on a Gravitational Wave Background (GWB). This GWB is extra energy that is not contained in Einstein's equations. In \cite{Matos:2021jef}, a new model was developed to explain the accelerating expansion of the universe where a GWB was incorporated into Einstein's equations by extending them as $R_{\mu\nu}-\frac{1}{2}Rg_{\mu\nu}+\frac{2\pi^2}{{\lambda}^2}g_{\mu\nu}=\kappa ^2 T_{\mu\nu}$, where ${\lambda}$ is the Compton wavelength of the graviton. In this paper, we continue to study this new paradigm. Due to GWB, quantum particles cannot follow geodesics, but rather stochastic trajectories. In the present work, we start by adding a stochastic term to the trajectories of quantum particles and derive the corresponding field equations of a quantum particle. We arrive at the Klein-Gordon equation in curved spacetime and from it we obtain a generalized Schr\"odinger equation. This leads to the following relevant result: the Schr\"odinger equation can be a direct consequence of the fact that the universe lives on a GWB.

In the present work, we generalize the theory of perturbations in a D + 1 dimensional space-time with cosmological constant, studying scalar, vector and tensor perturbations, as well as its structure in Newtonian and Synchronous gauge. We also show the theory of perturbations in the context of brane cosmology, where branes are embedded in a set of D-spatial dimensions, a temporal dimension, and an additional spatial dimension. In both, standard and brane cosmology an unperturbed spacetime is provided with a Friedmann-Lemaitre-Robertson-Walker metric and arbitrary sectional curvature, the matter content has the shape of a perfect fluid. In addition, we consider the arbitrary sectional curvature, obtaining the respective equations in the Newtonian and Synchronous gauge. We highlight that the results presented in this article can be used to treat brane cosmology with two concentric branes or tackle the \sigma_{8} tension with a braneworld approach. The Scalar Field Dark Matter (SFDM) model, also called Fuzzy, Wave, Bose-Einstein, Ultra-light Dark Matter, has received a lot of attention because it has been able to provide simpler and more natural explanations for various features of galaxies, such as the number of satellite galaxies and the cusp-core problem. We recently showed that this model is able to explain the vast polar orbits of satellite galaxies around their host, the so-called VPO, and to explain the X-ray and gamma-ray emissions in the vacuum regions of our galaxy, that is, the Fermi Bubbles. In all these phenomena the quantum character of SFDM has been crucial. In this work we study the quantum effects of SFDM at the cosmological level, to see these effects not only at the galactic scale, but also at the cosmological scale. Using a convenient ansatz, we were able to integrate the perturbed equations to show that the shape of the SFDM halos resembling atoms is a generic result. In recent times, the Scalar Field Dark Matter (SFDM) model (also called Fuzzy, Wave, Ultralight dark matter model) has received much attention due to its success in describing dark matter on both cosmological and galactic scales. Several challenges of the Cold Dark Matter (CDM) model can be explained very easily and naturally by the SFDM model. Two of these challenges are to describe the anomalous trajectories of satellite galaxies called the Vast Polar Structure (VPOS) and to explain the Fermi Bubbles (FB) observed in our galaxy. In Phys.Rev.D103(2021)083535 an alternative explanation for VPOS was shown using the SFDM excited states, explaining the anomalous trajectories in a natural and simple way. In this work we use the same dark matter structure to show that these excited states of the SFDM can provide a very simple and natural explanation for the FB, assuming that the SFDM is a kind of dark boson. If this assumption is correct, we should see FB in several more galaxies and continue to see gamma-ray events at higher energies, these observations would take place in the near future and could be crucial to the ultimate answer to the nature of dark matter.

In a previous work it was shown that by considering the quantum nature of the gravitational field mediator, it is possible to introduce the momentum energy of the graviton into the Einstein equations as an effective cosmological constant. The Compton Mass Dark Energy (CMaDE) model proposes that this momentum can be interpreted as dark energy, with a Compton wavelength given by the size of the observable universe $R_H$, implying that the dark energy varies depending on this size. The main result of this previous work is the existence of an effective cosmological constant $\Lambda=2\pi^2/\lambda^2$ that varies very slowly, being $\lambda=(c/H_0) R_H$ the graviton Compton wavelength. In the present work we use that the dark energy density parameter is given by $\Omega_\Lambda=2\pi^2/3/R_H^2$, it only has the curvature $\Omega_k$ as a free constant and depends exclusively on the radiation density parameter $\Omega_r$. Using $\Omega_{0r} = 9.54\times10^{- 5}$, the theoretical prediction for a flat universe of the dark energy density parameter is $\Omega_{0\Lambda} = 0.6922$. We perform a general study for a non-flat universe, using the Planck data and a modified version of the CLASS code we find an excellent concordance with the Cosmic Microwave Background and Mass Power Spectrum profiles, provided that the Hubble parameter today is $H_0 = 72.6$ km/s/Mpc for an universe with curvature $\Omega_{0k}=-0.003$. We conclude that the CMaDE model provides a natural explanation for the accelerated expansion and the coincidence problem of the universe.

The main aim of this paper is to provide cosmological constraints on the Multi Scalar Field Dark Matter model (MSFDM), in which we assume the dark matter is made up of different ultra-light scalar fields. As a first approximation, we consider they are real and do not interact with each other. We study the equations for both the background and perturbations for $N$-fields and present the evolution of the density parameters, the mass power spectrum and the CMB spectrum. In particular, we focus on two scalar fields with several combinations for the potentials $V(\phi) = 1/2 m_{\phi}^2 \phi^2$, $V(\phi) = m_{\phi}^2f^2\left[1+\cos(\phi/f)\right]$ and $V(\phi) = m_{\phi}^2f^2\left[\cosh(\phi/f)-1\right]$, however the work, along with the code, could be easily extended to more fields. We use the data from BAO, Big Bang Nucleosynthesis, Lyman-$\alpha$ forest and Supernovae to find constraints on the sampling parameters for the cases of a single field and double field, along with the Bayesian evidence. We found that some combinations of the potentials get penalized through the evidence, however for others there is a preference as good as for the cold dark matter., Comment: 22 pages, 21 Figures; matches the version published in Physical Review D

One of the greatest challenges of science is to understand the current accelerated expansion of the Universe. In this work, we show that by considering the quantum nature of the gravitational field, its wavelength can be associated with an effective Compton mass. We propose that this mass can be interpreted as dark energy, with a Compton wavelength given by the size of the observable Universe, implying that the dark energy varies depending on this size. If we do so, we find that: 1.- Even without any free constant for dark energy, the evolution of the Hubble parameter is exactly the same as for the LCDM model, so we expect this model to have the same predictions as LCDM. 2.- The density rate of the dark energy is $\Omega_{\Lambda}= 0.69$ which is a very similar value as the one found by the Planck satellite $\Omega_{\Lambda}= 0.684$. 3.- The dark energy has this value because it corresponds to the actual size of the radius of the Universe, thus the coincidence problem has a very natural explanation. 4.-It is possible to find also a natural explanation to why observations inferred from the local distance ladder find the value $H_0= 73$ km/s/Mpc for the Hubble constant. We show that if we take the variability of the dark energy into account, they should measure $H_0= 67.3$ km/s/Mpc as well. 5.-In this model the inflationary period contains a natural successful graceful exit., Comment: Work based on a presentation at the congress IWARA2020

Using a generalized Madelung transformation, we derive the hydrodynamic representation of the Dirac equation in arbitrary curved space-times coupled to an electromagnetic field. We obtain Dirac-Euler equations for fermions involving a continuity equation and a first integral of the Bernoulli equation. Comparing between the Dirac and Klein-Gordon equations we obtain the balance equation for fermion particles. We also use the correspondence between fermions and bosons to derive the hydrodynamic representation of the Weyl equation which is a chiral form of the Dirac equation., Comment: 21 pages, accepted in EPJ C

We use the concept of co-added rotation curves of Salucci et al. to investigate the properties of axi-symmetric multistate Scalar Field Dark Matter halos in low surface brightness galaxies and dwarf disc galaxies. We fit their rotation curves in two-state configurations and we find that all of these can be well fitted with a particle mass $\mu \sim (10^{-23} - 10^{-24})\rm{eV}/c^2$. Comparing our results with the standard cosmological model, the well-known $\Lambda$-cold dark matter, by using the Bayesian information criterion and the Akaike information criterion, we found that our two-state model seemed to be preferred.

In this work we study the problem of linear stability of gravitational perturbations in stationary and spherically symmetric wormholes. For this purpose, we employ the Newman-Penrose formalism which is well-suited for treating gravitational radiation in General Relativity, as well as the geometrical aspect of this theory. With this method we obtain a "master equation" that describes the behavior of gravitational perturbations that are of odd-parity in the Regge-Wheeler gauge. This equation is later applied to a specific class of Morris-Thorne wormholes and also to the metric of an asymptotically flat scalar field wormhole. The analysis of the equations that these space-times yield reveals that there are no unstable vibrational modes generated by the type of perturbations here studied., Comment: 20 pages. In this work we study the local behavior of geodesics in the neighborhood of a curvature singularity contained in stationary and axially symmetric space-times. Apart from these properties, the metrics we shall focus on will also be required to admit a quadratic first integral for their geodesics. In particular, we search for the conditions on the geometry of the space-time for which null and time-like geodesics can reach the singularity. These conditions are determined by the equations of motion of a freely-falling particle. We also analyze the possible existence of geodesics that do not become incomplete when encountering the singularity in their path. The results are stated as criteria that depend on the inverse metric tensor along with conserved quantities such as energy and angular momentum. As an example, the derived criteria are applied to the Plebanski-Demianski class of space-times. Lastly, we propose a line element that describes a wormhole whose curvature singularities are, according to our results, inaccessible to causal geodesics., Comment: 16 pages, 2 figues. Scalar-field dark matter (SFDM) halos exhibit a core-envelope structure with soliton-like cores and CDM-like envelopes. Simulations without self-interaction (free-field case) report a core-halo mass relation $M_c\propto M_{h}^{\beta}$, with either $\beta=1/3$ or $\beta=5/9$, which can be understood if core and halo obey certain energy or velocity scalings. We extend the core-halo mass relations to include SFDM with self-interaction (SI), either repulsive or attractive, and investigate its implications for the gravitational instability and collapse of solitonic cores, leading to supermassive black hole (SMBH) formation. For SFDM parameters that make $\sim$ Kpc-sized cores and CDM-like structure formation on large scales but suppressed on small scales, cores are stable for all galactic halos of interest, from the free-field to the repulsive SI limit. For attractive SI, however, halos masses $M_h\sim (10^{10}-10^{12}) M_\odot$ have cores that collapse to SMBHs with $M_{SMBH}\sim 10^{6}-10^8 M_\odot$, as observations seem to require, while smaller-mass halos have stable cores, for particle masses $m\simeq (2.14\times 10^{-22}-9.9\times 10^{-20})\rm{eV}/c^2$, if the free-field has $\beta=1/3$, or $m = 2.23\times 10^{-21}-1.7\times 10^{-18}\rm{eV}/c^2$, if $\beta=5/9$. For free-field and repulsive cases, however, if previous constraints on particle parameters are relaxed to allow much smaller (sub-galactic scale) cores, then halos can also form SMBHs, for the same range of halo and BH masses, as long as $\beta = 5/9$ is correct for the free-field. In that case, structure formation in SFDM would be largely indistinguishable from Cold Dark Matter (CDM). Such SFDM models might not resolve the small-scale structure problems of CDM, but they would explain the formation of SMBHs quite naturally. Although the standard cosmological model, the so-called $\Lambda$ Cold Dark Matter ("$\Lambda$CDM"), appears to fit well observations at the cosmological level, it is well known that it possesses several inconsistencies at the galactic scales. In order to address the problems of the $\Lambda$CDM at small scales, alternative models have been proposed, among the most popular ones the proposal of dark matter in the Universe being made of ultra-light bosons is a strong candidate nowadays. At this work, we study through an analytical approach the consequences arising from confronting the SPARC catalogue observed-baryon acceleration correlation with the scalar field dark matter model. We carry out such analysis either considering the features of galactic haloes extracted from structure formation simulations either from considering the existence of other non-dark-matter elements in the whole system (such as baryons or a supermassive black hole). Specifically, we address a recent claim that the model is not capable of reproducing a constant surface density in the core in contrast to what observations suggest for a host of galaxies with different sizes and morphologies. In this direction, we show that this discrepancy can be alleviated once the contributions of no-dark-matter constituents in the whole galactic system are taken into account. Additionally, we find that a mass of $m \simeq 1.41 \times 10^{-22}\ eV/c^2$ is capable of reproducing all our findings and correctly adjusting the rotation curves coming from the Milky Way galaxy., Comment: 18 pages, 7 figures, 1 table. In recent years, the scalar field dark matter (SFDM), also called ultralight bosonic dark matter, has received considerable attention due to the number of problems it might help to solve. Among these are the cusp-core problem and the abundance of small structures of the standard cold dark matter (CDM) model. In this paper we show that multi-state solutions of the low energy and weak gravitational field limit of field equations, interpreted as galactic halo density profiles, can provide a possible explanation to the anisotropic distribution of satellite galaxies observed in the Milky Way, M31 and Centaurus A, where satellites trajectories seem to concentrate on planes close to the poles of the galaxies instead of following homogeneously distributed trajectories. The core hypothesis is that multi-state solutions of the equations describing the dynamics of this dark matter candidate, namely, the Gross-Pitaevskii-Poisson equations, with monopolar and dipolar contributions, can possibly explain the anisotropy of satellite trajectories. In order to construct a proof of concept, we study the trajectories of a number of test particles traveling on top of the gravitational potential due to a multi-state halo with modes (1,0,0)+(2,1,0). The result is that particles accumulate asymptotically in time on planes passing close to the poles. Satellite galaxies are not test particles but interpreted as such, our results indicate that in the asymptotic time their trajectories do not distribute isotropically, instead they prefer to have orbital poles accumulating near the equatorial plane of the multistate halo. We rewrite the Klein-Gordon (KG) equation in an arbitrary space-time transforming it into a generalized Schr\"odinger equation. Then we take the weak field limit and show that this equation has some differences with the traditional Schr\"odinger equation plus a gravitational field. Thus, this procedure shows that the Schr\"odinger equation derived in a covariant manner is different from the traditional one. With this new Schr\"odinger equation, we study the KG equation in a Newtonian space-time to describe the behavior of a scalar particle in an inertial system. We give some examples where it is possible to study the energy levels, effective potential and the wave function of the systems, these results contain the gravitational effects due to the curvature of space-time. Nowadays cosmological inflation is the most accepted mechanism to explain the primordial seeds that led to the structure formation observed in the Universe. Current observations are in well agreement to initial adiabatic conditions, which imply that single-scalar-field inflation may be enough to describe the early Universe. However, there are several scenarios where the existence of more than a single field could be relevant during this period, for instance, the situation where the so-called spectator is present. Within the spectator scenario we can find the possibility that an ultra-light scalar field dark matter candidate could coexist with the inflaton. In this work we study this possibility where the additional scalar field could be massive or self-interacting. The main aim of this paper is to provide a qualitative introduction to the cosmic inflation and its relationship with current cosmological observations. The inflationary model solves many of the fundamental problems that challenge the Standard Big Bang cosmology i.e. Flatness, Horizon and Monopole problem, and additionally provides an explanation for the initial conditions observed throughout the Large-Scale Structure of the Universe, such as galaxies. In this review we describe the general solutions carry out by a single scalar field. Then with the use of current surveys, we show the constraints imposed on the inflationary parameters $(n_{\rm s},r)$ which allow us to make the connection between theoretical and observational cosmology. In this work we present an analytical proof of cosmic censorship in a Kerr-like phantom wormhole (WH) which contains a singularity that is not protected by an event horizon. We show that the naked singularity of this space-time is causally disconnected from the universe. To do so, we consider a slowly rotating limit and by means of the Hamilton-Jacobi theory separate the Hamiltonian of the geodesics into two polynomials. During this process we find a fourth conserved quantity. After examining the properties of these polynomials we conclude that the ring singularity is untouchable by any observer traveling in a geodesic of this space-time. We also derive the conditions on the four constants of motion that are necessary for a traveler to go back and forth both universes connected through the WH, and then compare its structure to that of a negative mass Kerr black hole., Comment: 8 pages, 7 figures. Scalar fields have been used as candidates for dark matter in the universe, from axions with masses $\sim10^{-5}$eV until ultra-light scalar fields with masses $\sim10^{-22}$eV. Axions behave as cold dark matter while the ultra-light scalar fields galaxies are Bose-Einstein condensate drops. The ultra-light scalar fields are also called scalar field dark matter model. In this work we study rotation curves for low surface brightness spiral galaxies using two scalar field models: the Gross-Pitaevskii Bose-Einstein condensate in the Thomas-Fermi approximation and a scalar field solution of the Klein-Gordon equation. We also used the zero disk approximation galaxy model where photometric data is not considered, only the scalar field dark matter model contribution to rotation curve is taken into account. From the best-fitting analysis of the galaxy catalog we use, we found the range of values of the fitting parameters: the length scale and the central density. The worst fitting results (values of $\chi^2_{red}$ much greater than 1, on the average) were for the Thomas-Fermi models, i.e., the scalar field dark matter is better than the Thomas-Fermi approximation model to fit the rotation curves of the analysed galaxies. To complete our analysis we compute from the fitting parameters the mass of the scalar field models and two astrophysical quantities of interest, the dynamical dark matter mass within 300 pc and the characteristic central surface density of the dark matter models. We found that the value of the central mass within 300 pc is in agreement with previous reported results, that this mass is $\approx 10^{7}$ $M_\odot/$pc$^2$, independent of the dark matter model. Several observations suggest the existence of super-massive black holes (SMBH) at the centers of giant galaxies. However the mechanism under which these objects form remains non completely understood. In this work we review an alternative mechanism of formation of galactic SMBHs. This is, the collapse of ultra-light scalar field configurations playing the role of dark matter halos. Several works have studied this scenario and investigated its plausibility. The theory of collapse of scalar field configurations into compact objects has been extensively studied regarding to boson stars, in this work we extrapolate such results for models of galactic halos hosting central SMBHs. We construct the simplest setup of an ultra-light scalar field configuration laying in a Schwarzschild space-time for modeling a galactic system with a SMBH in the quasi-static limit. This model is applicable to systems either out of their accretion-phase at late times or either for those undergoing into a very slow accretion-phase, such as some early-type giant elliptic galaxies and bulges. On the other hand, very recent direct observation of Sagittarius A by the Event Horizon Telescope will open an era of explorations of the deep-inner galactic region of the Milky Way that will enable us to test and distinguish various dark matter models. Thus we use our model to give a very first step towards that direction. We derive the stellar kinematics induced by this sort dark matter to obtain information of the black hole's influence into the observable features of the velocity field of visible matter deep inside the galaxy. In this work the Klein-Gordon (KG) equation for a complex scalar field with U(1) symmetry endowed in a mexican-hat scalar field potential with thermal and electromagnetic contributions is written as a Gross-Pitaevskii (GP)-like equation. This equation is interpreted as a charged generalization of the GP equation at finite temperatures found in previous works. Its hydrodynamical representation is obtained and the corresponding thermodynamical properties are derived and related to measurable quantities. The condensation temperature in the non-relativistic regime associated with the aforementioned system within the semiclassical approximation is calculated. Also, a generalized equation for the conservation of energy for a charged bosonic gas is found when electromagnetic fields are introduced, and it is studied how under certain circumstances its breaking of symmetry can give some insight on the phase transition of the system not just into the condensed phase but also on other related systems., Comment: 11 pages

Here we present exact, stationary, parametric solutions to the Schr\"odinger--Poisson system. We confront two images: on one hand, we draw on the homotopy analysis method which leads us to a nonlinear integral scheme. Indeed, this approach might be simplified by looking for sufficiently smooth solutions vanishing asymptotically. However, since our system possesses stiffness an additional analysis has to be considered. On the other hand, we seek for exact solutions over the inverse scattering method by introducing a pseudo spectral transform. In fact, this pseudo spectral method generalises Korteweg--de Vries family's kernel and let us to circumvent some technical difficulties originally arisen in our first approach although, again, we come to an integral representation, which we test for convergence., Comment: no figures, no tables

Cold dark matter (CDM) has shown to be an excellent candidate for the dark matter (DM) of the Universe at large scales, however it presents some challenges at the galactic level. The scalar field dark matter (SFDM), also called fuzzy, wave, Bose-Einstein condensate or ultra-light axion DM, is identical to CDM at cosmological scales but different at the galactic ones. SFDM forms core halos, it has a natural cut-off in its matter power spectrum and it predicts well-formed galaxies at high redshifts. In this work we reproduce the rotation curves of high-resolution low surface brightness (LSB) and SPARC galaxies with two SFDM profiles: (1)~The soliton+NFW profile in the fuzzy DM (FDM) model, arising empirically from cosmological simulations of real, non-interacting scalar field (SF) at zero temperature, and (2)~the multistate SFDM (mSFDM) profile, an exact solution to the Einstein-Klein-Gordon equations for a real, self-interacting SF, with finite temperature into the SF potential, introducing several quantum states as a realistic model for a SFDM halo. From the fits with the soliton+NFW profile, we obtained for the boson mass $0.212< m_\psi/(10^{-23} \mathrm{eV}/c^2)<27.0$ and for the core radius $0.326< r_c/\mathrm{kpc}<8.96$. From the combined analysis with the LSB galaxies, we obtained $m_\psi = 0.554 \times10^{-23}\mathrm{eV}$, a result in tension with the severe cosmological constraints. Also, we show the analytical mSFDM model fits the observations as well as or better than the empirical soliton+NFW profile, and it reproduces naturally the wiggles present in some galaxies, being a theoretically motivated framework additional or alternative to the FDM profile., Comment: 24 pages, 11 figures. One alternative to the cold dark matter (CDM) paradigm is the scalar field dark matter (SFDM) model, which assumes dark matter is a spin-0 ultra-light scalar field (SF) with a typical mass $m\sim10^{-22}\mathrm{eV}/c^2$ and positive self-interactions. Due to the ultra-light boson mass, the SFDM could form Bose-Einstein condensates (BEC) in the very early Universe, which are interpreted as the dark matter haloes. Although cosmologically the model behaves as CDM, they differ at small scales: SFDM naturally predicts fewer satellite haloes, cores in dwarf galaxies and the formation of massive galaxies at high redshifts. The ground state (or BEC) solution at zero temperature suffices to describe low-mass galaxies but fails for larger systems. A possible solution is adding finite-temperature corrections to the SF potential which allows combinations of excited states. In this work, we test the finite-temperature multistate SFDM solution at galaxy cluster scales and compare our results with the Navarro-Frenk-White (NFW) and BEC profiles. We achieve this by fitting the mass distribution of 13 \textit{Chandra} X-ray clusters of galaxies, excluding the region of the brightest cluster galaxy. We show that the SFDM model accurately describes the clusters' DM mass distributions offering an equivalent or better agreement than the NFW profile. The complete disagreement of the BEC model with the data is also shown. We conclude that the theoretically motivated multistate SFDM profile is an interesting alternative to empirical profiles and ad hoc fitting-functions that attempt to couple the asymptotic NFW decline with the inner core in SFDM., Comment: 17 pages, 8 figures. We derive a general energy balance equation for a self-interacting boson gas at vanishing temperature in a curved spacetime. This represents a first step towards a formulation of the first law of thermodynamics for a scalar field in general relativity. By using a $3+1$ foliation of the spacetime and performing a Madelung transformation, we rewrite the Klein-Gordon-Maxwell equations in a general curved spacetime into its hydrodynamic version where we can identify the different energy contributions of the system and separate them into kinetic, quantum, electromagnetic, and gravitational., Comment: 6 pages

We develop a hydrodynamic representation of the Klein-Gordon-Maxwell-Einstein equations. These equations combine quantum mechanics, electromagnetism, and general relativity. We consider the case of an arbitrary curved spacetime, the case of weak gravitational fields in a static or expanding background, and the nonrelativistic (Newtonian) limit. The Klein-Gordon-Maxwell-Einstein equations govern the evolution of a complex scalar field, possibly describing self-gravitating Bose-Einstein condensates, coupled to an electromagnetic field. They may find applications in the context of dark matter, boson stars, and neutron stars with a superfluid core.

In this work we wonder if there is a way to generate a wormhole (WH) in nature using "normal" matter. In order to give a first answer to this question, we study a massless scalar field coupled to an electromagnetic one (dilatonic field) with an arbitrary coupling constant, as source of gravitation. We obtain an exact solution of the Einstein equations using this source that represents a magnetized rotating WH. This space-time has a naked ring singularity, probably untouchable as in \cite{Matos:2012gj}, but otherwise regular. The WH throat lies on the disc bounded by the ring singularity, which keeps the throat open without requiring exotic matter, that means, satisfying all the energy conditions. After analyzing the geodesic motion and the tidal forces we find that a test particle can go through the WH without troubles.

We recover spiral and barred spiral patterns in disk galaxy simulations with a Wave Dark Matter (WDM) background (also known as Scalar Field Dark Matter (SFDM), Ultra-Light Axion (ULA) dark matter, and Bose-Einstein Condensate (BEC) dark matter). Here we show how the interaction between a baryonic disk and its Dark Matter Halo triggers the formation of spiral structures when the halo is allowed to have a triaxial shape and angular momentum. This is a more realistic picture within the WDM model since a non-spherical rotating halo seems to be more natural. By performing hydrodynamic simulations, along with earlier test particles simulations, we demonstrate another important way in which wave dark matter is consistent with observations. The common existence of bars in these simulations is particularly noteworthy. This may have consequences when trying to obtain information about the dark matter distribution in a galaxy, the mere presence of spiral arms or a bar usually indicates that baryonic matter dominates the central region and therefore observations, like rotation curves, may not tell us what the DM distribution is at the halo center. But here we show that spiral arms and bars can develop in DM dominated galaxies with a central density core without supposing its origin on mechanisms intrinsic to the baryonic matter., Comment: 15 pages, 6 figures. We derive a generalized Gross-Pitaevski (GP) equation immersed on a electromagnetic and a weak gravitational field starting from the covariant Complex Klein-Gordon field in a curved space-time. We compare it with the GP equation where the gravitational field is added by hand as an external potential. We show that there is a small difference of order $g z/c^2$ between them that could be measured in the future using Bose-Einstein Condensates (BEC). We study the evolution of gas rotation curves within the scalar field dark matter (SFDM) model. In this model the galactic haloes are astronomical Bose-Einstein Condensate drops of scalar field. These haloes are characterized by a constant-density core and are consistent with observed rotation curves of dark matter dominated galaxies, a missing feature in CDM haloes resulting from DM-only simulations. We add the baryonic component to the SFDM haloes and simulate the evolution of the dark matter tracer in a set of grid-based hydrodynamic simulations aimed to analyse the evolution of the rotation curves and the gas density distribution in the case of dark matter dominated galaxies. Previous works had found that when considering an exact analytic solution for a static SF configuration, the free parameters of the model allows for good fits to the rotation curves, we confirm that in our simulations but now taking into account the evolution of the baryonic component in a static dark matter and stellar disk potential. Including live gas is a step forward from the previous work using SFDM, as for example, the rotation velocity of the gas is not always exactly equal to the circular velocity of a test particle on a circular orbit. In this work we investigate the possibility that a simple extension of the Standard Model (SM) can be the dark matter of the universe. We postulate the existence of a scalar field singlet like the Higgs as an extra term in the SM Lagrangian. We find that from the astrophysical point of view a very small mass and self-interaction is more convenient to agree with observations and from particle detectors observations we do not see any essential constrain to this settings. Thus, we conclude that a scalar field singlet with a small mass and self-interaction is a good candidate to be the nature of the dark matter., Comment: 5 pages, 1 figure

In this work we study a Kerr-like wormhole with phantom matter as source. It has three parameters: mass, angular momentum and scalar field charge. This wormhole has a naked ring singularity, other wise it is regular everywhere. The mean feature of this wormhole is that the mouth of the throat lie on a sphere of the same radius as the ring singularity an avoids any observer to see or to reach the singularity, it behaves like an anti-horizon. We analyse the geodesics of the wormhole and find that an observer can go through the geodesics without troubles, but the equator presents an infinity potential barrier which avoids to reach the throat. From an analysis of the Riemann tensor we obtain that the tidal forces permits the wormhole to be traversable for an observer like a human being.

We review the work done so far aimed at modeling in an alternative way the dark matter in the Universe: the scalar field/ Bose-Einstein condensate dark matter (SFDM/BEC) model. We discuss a number of important achievements and characteristics of the model. We investigate Gaussian warped five-dimensional thick braneworlds. Identification of the graviton's wave function (squared) in the extra-dimension with a probability distribution function leads to a straightforward probabilistic interpretation of braneworlds. The extra-coordinate $y$ is regarded as a Gaussian-distributed random variable. Hence, all of the field variables and operators which depend on $y$ are, also, randomly distributed. Four-dimensional measurable (macroscopic) quantities are identified with the corresponding averaged values over the Gaussian distribution. We rewrite the complex Klein-Gordon (KG) equation with a mexican-hat scalar field potential in a thermal bath with one loop contribution as a new Gross-Pitaevskii (GP)-like equation. We interpret it as a charged and finite temperature generalization of the GP equation. We find its hydrodynamic version as well and using it, we derive the corresponding thermodynamics. We obtain a generalized first law for a charged Bose-Einstein Condensate (BEC). We study the formation of structure in the Universe assuming that dark matter can be described by a scalar field $\tilde{\Phi}$ with a potential $V(\Phi)=-\mathfrak{m}^{2}\tilde{\Phi}^{2}/2+\lambda\tilde{\Phi}^4/4$. We derive the evolution equations of the scalar field in the linear regime of perturbations. We investigate the symmetry breaking and possibly a phase transition of this scalar field in the early Universe. At low temperatures, the scalar perturbations have an oscillating growing mode and therefore, this kind of dark matter could lead to the formation of gravitational structures. In order to study the nonlinear regime, we use the spherical collapse model and show that, in the quadratic potential limit, this kind of dark matter can form virialized structures. The main difference with the traditional Cold Dark Matter paradigm is that the formation of structure in the scalar field model can occur at earlier times. We analyze the properties of a Kerr-like wormhole supported by phantom matter, which is an exact solution of the Einstein-phantom field equations. It is shown that the solution has a naked ring singularity which is unreachable to null geodesics falling freely from the outside. Similarly to Roger Penrose's cosmic censorship, that states that all naked singularities in the Universe must be protected by event horizons, here we conjecture from our results that a naked singularity can also be fully protected by the intrinsic properties of a wormhole's throat.

We deduce the relation between the critical temperature associated to the symmetry breaking of scalar fields with one--loop correction potential immersed in a thermal bath and the condensation temperature of the aforementioned system, assuming a harmonic oscillator type potential. We show that these two temperatures are related through the \emph{scale} associated to the system. In this aim, we infer the order of magnitude for the \emph{scale} as a function of the corresponding healing length, in order to give a criterium to compare both temperatures. Additionally, we prove that the condensation temperature is independent of the thermal bath within the semiclassical approximation, for a positive coupling constant, assuming that the thermal bath contribution is the lowest energy associated to the system.

In the last time the cold dark matter (CDM) model has suggested more and more that it is not able to describe all the properties of nearby galaxies that can be observed in great detail as well as that it has some problems in the mechanism by which matter is more rapidly gathered into large-scale structure such as galaxies and clusters of galaxies. In this work we revisit an alternative model, the scalar field dark matter (SFDM) model, which proposes that the galactic haloes form by condensation of a scalar field (SF) very early in the Universe, i.e., in this model the haloes of galaxies are astronomical Bose-Einstein Condensate drops of SF. On the other hand, large-scale structures like clusters or superclusters of galaxies form similar to the $\Lambda$CDM model, by hierarchy, thus all the predictions of the $\Lambda$CDM model at cosmological scales are reproduced by SFDM. This model predicts that all galaxy haloes must be very similar and exist for higher redshifts than in the $\Lambda$CDM model. In the first part of this review we revisit the cosmological evolution of SFDM model with a scalar potential $m^2\Phi^2/2+\lambda\Phi^4/4$ with two different frameworks: the field and fluid approach. The scalar fluctuations have an oscillating growing mode and therefore, this kind of dark matter could lead to the early formation of gravitational structures in the Universe. In the last part, we study the core central density profiles of BEC dark matter haloes and fit high-resolution rotation curves of low surface brightness galaxies. The mean value of the logarithmic inner density slopes is $\alpha = - $0.27 $\pm$ 0.18 and we show that the recent observation of the constant dark matter central surface density can be reproduced. The scalar field dark matter (SFDM) model proposes that galaxies form by condensation of a scalar field (SF) very early in the universe forming Bose-Einstein Condensates (BEC) drops, i.e., in this model haloes of galaxies are gigantic drops of SF. Here big structures form like in the LCDM model, by hierarchy, thus all the predictions of the LCDM model at big scales are reproduced by SFDM. This model predicts that all galaxies must be very similar and exist for bigger redshifts than in the LCDM model. In this work we show that BEC dark matter haloes fit high-resolution rotation curves of a sample of thirteen low surface brightness galaxies. We compare our fits to those obtained using a Navarro-Frenk-White and Pseudo-Isothermal (PI) profiles and found a better agreement with the SFDM and PI profiles. The mean value of the logarithmic inner density slopes is -0.27 +/- 0.18. As a second result we find a natural way to define the core radius with the advantage of being model-independent. Using this new definition in the BEC density profile we find that the recent observation of the constant dark matter central surface density can be reproduced. We summarize our studies on the determination of the mass of the dark matter halo, based on observations of rotation curves of test particles or of the gravitational lensing. As we show, it is not uncommon that some studies on the nature of dark matter include extra assumptions, some even on the very nature of the dark matter, what we want to determine!, and that bias the studies and the results obtained from the observation and, in some cases, imply an inconsistent system altogether., Comment: 12 pages, 2 figures

Cold and hot dark matter (CDM, HDM) imprint distinctive effects on the cosmological observables, naturally, they are often thought to be made of different kinds of particles. However, we point out that CDM and HDM could share a common origin, a Bose-Einstein condensate emerging with two components. In this framework, the mass and temperature constraints on HDM contain fundamental information of CDM, but also, the critical temperature of condensation shall be larger than the HDM temperature. We discuss two scenarios: a gas made of bosons and a gas made of boson-antiboson pairs. We use some cosmological data surveys to test the idea and constrain the bosonic DM parameters, including a forecast for the Planck mission. We find that the bosonic DM picture is consistent with data in the first scenario, although, the second one might be increasingly interesting for future data surveys.
