Topological crystalline insulators are known to support multiple Majorana zero modes (MZMs) at a single vortex, their hybridization is forbidden by a magnetic mirror symmetry M T . Due to the limited energy resolution of scanning tunneling microscopes and the very small energy spacing of trivial bound states, it remains challenging to directly probe and demonstrate the existence of multiple MZMs. In this work, we propose to demonstrate the existence of MZMs by studying the hybridization of multiple MZMs in a symmetry breaking field. The different responses of trivial bound states and MZMs can be inferred from their spatial distribution in a vortex. However, the theoretical simulations are very demanding since it requires an extremely large system in real space. By utilizing the kernel polynomial method, we can efficiently simulate large lattices with over 108 orbitals to compute the local density of states which bridges the gap between theoretical studies based on minimal models and experimental measurements. We show that the spatial distribution of MZMs and trivial vortex bound states differs drastically in tilted magnetic fields. The zero-bias peak elongates when the magnetic field preserves M T , while it splits when M T is broken, giving rise to an anisotropic magnetic response. Since the bulk of SnTe are metallic, we also study the robustness of MZMs against the bulk states, and clarify when can the MZMs produce a pronounced anisotropic magnetic response. We predict a half-quantized mirror Hall effect induced by mirror symmetry in strong topological insulator films. These films are known to host a pair of gapless Dirac cones in the first Brillouin zone associated with surface electrons. Our findings reveal that mirror symmetry assigns a unique mirror parity to each Dirac cone, resulting in a half-quantized Hall conductance of ± e 2 2 h for each cone. Despite the total electrical Hall conductance being null due to time-reversal invariance, the difference in the Hall conductance between the two cones yields a quantized Hall conductance of e 2 h for the difference in mirror currents. The effect of helical edge mirror current - a crucial feature of this quantum effect - may, in principle, be determined by means of electrical measurements. The half-quantum mirror Hall effect reveals a type of mirror-symmetry induced quantum anomaly in a time-reversal invariant lattice system, giving rise to a topological metallic state of matter with time-reversal invariance. Mirror symmetry was first observed in worldsheet string constructions, and was shown to have profound implications in the Effective Field Theory (EFT) limit of string compactifications, and for the properties of Calabi–Yau manifolds. It opened up a new field in pure mathematics, and was utilised in the area of enumerative geometry. Spinor–Vector Duality (SVD) is an extension of mirror symmetry. This can be readily understood in terms of the moduli of toroidal compactification of the Heterotic String, which includes the metric the antisymmetric tensor field and the Wilson line moduli. In terms of the toroidal moduli, mirror symmetry corresponds to mappings of the internal space moduli, whereas Spinor–Vector Duality corresponds to maps of the Wilson line moduli. In the past few of years, we demonstrated the existence of Spinor–Vector Duality in the effective field theory compactifications of string theories. This was achieved by starting with a worldsheet orbifold construction that exhibited Spinor–Vector Duality and resolving the orbifold singularities, hence generating a smooth, effective field theory limit with an imprint of the Spinor–Vector Duality. Just like mirror symmetry, the Spinor–Vector Duality can be used to study the properties of complex manifolds with vector bundles. Spinor–Vector Duality offers a top-down approach to the "Swampland" program, by exploring the imprint of the symmetries of the ultra-violet complete worldsheet string constructions in the effective field theory limit. Until now, research has not taken into consideration the physicochemical purine–pyrimidine symmetries of the genetic code in the transcription and translation processes of proteinogenesis. Our Supersymmetry Genetic Code table, developed in 2022, is common and unique for all RNA and DNA living species. Its basic structure is a purine–pyrimidine symmetry net with double mirror symmetry. Accordingly, the symmetry of the genetic code directly shows its organisation based on the principle of nucleotide Watson–Crick and codon–anticodon pairing. The maximal purine–pyrimidine symmetries of codons show that each codon has a strictly defined and unchangeable position within the genetic code. We discovered that the physicochemical symmetries of the genetic code play a fundamental role in recognising and differentiating codons from mRNA and the anticodon tRNA and aminoacyl-tRNA synthetases in the transcription and translation processes. These symmetries also support the wobble hypothesis with non-Watson–Crick pairing interactions between the translation process from mRNA to tRNA. The Supersymmetry Genetic Code table shows a specific arrangement of the second base of codons, according to which it is possible that an anticodon from tRNA recognises whether a codon from mRNA belongs to an amino acid with two or four codons, which is very important in the purposeful use of the wobble pairing process. Therefore, we show that canonical and wobble pairings essentially do not lead to misreading and errors during translation, and we point out the role of physicochemical purine–pyrimidine symmetries in decreasing disorder according to error minimisation and preserving the integrity of biological processes during proteinogenesis. Scientific observation has led to the discovery of recurring patterns in nature. Symmetry is the property of an object showing regularity in parts on a plane or around an axis. There are several types of symmetries observed in the natural world and the most common are mirror symmetry, radial symmetry, and translational symmetry. Symmetries can be continuous or discrete. A discrete symmetry is a symmetry that describes non-continuous changes in an object. A continuous symmetry is a repetition of an object an infinite number of times. A consequence of continuous symmetry is the existence of conservation laws. A natural system with discrete and continuous symmetries displays several physical properties, such as the existence of long-range order. Geometric shapes exhibit symmetry as mirror reflections of each other. Symmetry in nature has been a model of beauty since the beginning of civilization. Since the earliest times, nature itself has manifestly been a model, evincing regularity in sundry forms and occurrences–from minerals and plants to the anatomy of living beings, to the regularly recurring stellar constellations. For Ancient Greek philosophers, proportion, symmetry, and harmony, were the basics to determine whether something is beautiful or not. Ancient Greek philosophers were known for bringing logic and rational thinking to phenomena that were previously explained by mythology and Gods. They observed the natural world around them and used their knowledge to answer questions about the proportion in observable objects and the origin of Earth. The Greek words summetria and summetros appear frequently in the Timaeus, defined as parts with each other and with the whole. Plato has a very rough concept of symmetry, and when he uses "beauty" to characterize the so-called Platonic Solids in the Timaeus, he seems to be emphasizing their regularity and indirectly their symmetry. Plato believes the four elements (earth, air, fire, water) have been constructed by the Demiurge, or a divine craftsman who appoints order in an otherwise chaotic universe. Minerals are representative examples of beauty, order, and symmetry in inorganic materials. Well-formed minerals (crystals) are a collection of equivalent faces related by symmetry. The goal of this paper is to relate the perspective of symmetry in ancient Greek philosophy with the modern scientific evidence of the geometric description of crystal structures. The five Platonic solids are ideal models of geometrical patterns that occur throughout the world of minerals. Multi-resonant metasurfaces are of great significance in the applications of multi-band nanophotonics. Here, we propose a novel metasurface design scheme for simultaneously supporting quasi-bound states in continuum (QBIC) and other resonant modes, in which QBIC resonance is generated by mirror or rotational symmetry breaking in oligomers while other resonant modes can be simultaneously excited by rationally designing the shapes of meta-atoms within oligomers. As an example, the simultaneous excitation of QBIC and anapole modes are demonstrated in a dimer metasurface composed of asymmetric dumbbell-shaped apertures. Based on the far-field multipole decomposition and near-field electromagnetic field distributions, the origin mechanisms of QBIC and anapole mode are elucidated. The symmetry breaking of dumbbell-shaped dimer results in QBIC. Within a certain asymmetric variation range, the contributions of toroidal dipole moment and electric dipole moment with approximately equal magnitudes remain dominant, which allows the anapole mode to always present. The effectiveness of the proposed design scheme is further confirmed by the experimental results identical with the evolutions of numerical simulation. In terahertz biosensing experiments, the anapole mode exhibits a higher sensitivity of 271.3 GHz (nmol/μl)−1, whereas the QBIC can achieve a lower detection limit of 0.015 nmol/μl and expands the detection range by almost an order of magnitude. Our findings are beneficial to designing multi-resonant metasurfaces with different resonance modes and promote the corresponding applications in the fields of biosensing, lasers, filtering, and nonlinearity. We report theoretical results for the electronic contribution to thermal and electrical transport for chiral superconductors belonging to even or odd-parity E1 and E2 representations of the tetragonal and hexagonal point groups. Chiral superconductors exhibit novel properties that depend on the topology of the order parameter and Fermi surface, and--as we highlight--the structure of the impurity potential. An anomalous thermal Hall effect is predicted and shown to be sensitive to the winding number, ], of the chiral order parameter via Andreev scattering that transfers angular momentum from the chiral condensate to excitations that scatter off the random potential. For heat transport in a chiral superconductor with isotropic impurity scattering, i.e., point-like impurities, a transverse heat current is obtained for v = ±1, but vanishes for |v| > 1. This is not a universal result. For finite-size impurities with radii of order or greater than the Fermi wavelength, R ≥ ħ/p[sub f], the thermal Hall conductivity is finite for chiral order with |v| ≥ 2, and determined by a specific Fermi-surface average of the differential cross-section for electron-impurity scattering. Our results also provide quantitative formulae for analyzing and interpreting thermal transport measurements for superconductors predicted to exhibit broken time-reversal and mirror symmetries. Cholinergic signaling in the retina is mediated by acetylcholine (ACh) released from starburst amacrine cells (SACs), which are key neurons for motion detection. SACs comprise ON and OFF subtypes, which morphologically show mirror symmetry to each other. Although many physiological studies on SACs have targeted ON cells only, the synaptic computation of ON and OFF SACs is assumed to be similar. Recent studies demonstrated that gene expression patterns and receptor types differed between ON and OFF SACs, suggesting differences in their functions. Here, we compared cholinergic signaling pathways between ON and OFF SACs in the mouse retina using the patch clamp technique. The application of ACh increased GABAergic feedback, observed as postsynaptic currents to SACs, in both ON and OFF SACs; however, the mode of GABAergic feedback differed. Nicotinic receptors mediated GABAergic feedback in both ON and OFF SACs, while muscarinic receptors mediated GABAergic feedback in ON SACs only in adults. Neither tetrodotoxin, which blocked action potentials, nor LY354740, which blocked neurotransmitter release from SACs, eliminated ACh-induced GABAergic feedback in SACs. These results suggest that ACh-induced GABAergic feedback in ON and OFF SACs is regulated by different feedback mechanisms in adults and mediated by non-spiking amacrine cells other than SACs. Chirality, the lack of mirror symmetry, can be mimicked in nanophotonics and plasmonics by breaking the symmetry in light-nanostructure interaction. Here we report on versatile use of nanosphere lithography for the fabrication of low-cost metasurfaces, which exhibit broadband handedness- and angle-dependent extinction in the near-infrared range, thus offering extrinsic chiro-optical behavior. We measure wavelength and angle dependence of the extinction for four samples. Two samples are made of polystyrene nanospheres asymmetrically covered by silver and gold in one case and silver only in the other case, with a nanohole array at the bottom. The other two samples are nanohole arrays, obtained after the nanosphere removal from the first two samples. Rich extrinsic chiral features are governed by different chiro-optical mechanisms in the three-dimensional plasmonic semi-shells and planar nanohole arrays. We also measure Stokes parameters in the same wavelength and incidence angle range and show that the transmitted fields follow the extrinsic chirality features of the extinction dissymmetry. We further study the influences of the nanostructured shapes and in-plane orientations on the intrinsic vs extrinsic chirality. The nanoholes are modelled as oval shapes in metal, showing good agreement with the experiments. We thus confirm that nanosphere lithography can provide different geometries for chiral light manipulation at the nanoscale, with the possibility to extend functionalities with optimized oval shapes and combination of constituent metals. We introduce the wrapped Donaldson--Fukaya category of a (generalized) semi-toric SYZ fibration with Lagrangian section satisfying a tameness condition at infinity. Examples include the Gross fibration on the complement of an anti-canonical divisor in a toric Calabi--Yau 3-fold.We compute the wrapped Floer cohomology of a Lagrangian section and find that it is the algebra of functions on the Hori--Vafa mirror. The latter result is the key step in proving homological mirror symmetry for this case. The techniques developed here allow the construction in general of the wrapped Fukaya category on an open Calabi--Yau manifold carrying an SYZ fibration with nice behavior at infinity. Lateral momentum conservation is typically kept in a non-absorptive rotationally symmetric system through mirror symmetry via Noether's theorem when illuminated by a homogeneous light wave. Therefore, it is still very challenging to break the mirror symmetry and generate a lateral optical force (LOF) in the rotationally symmetric system. Here, we report a general dynamic action in the SO(2) rotationally symmetric system, originating from the polarization-tuned mirror symmetry breaking (MSB) of the light scattering. We demonstrate theoretically and experimentally that MSB can be generally applied to the SO(2) rotationally symmetric system and tuned sinusoidally by polarization orientation, leading to a highly tunable and highly efficient LOF (9.22 pN/mW/μm−2) perpendicular to the propagation direction. The proposed MSB mechanism and LOF not only complete the sets of MSB of light-matter interaction and non-conservative force only using a plane wave but also provide extra polarization manipulation freedom. In a SO(2) rotationally symmetric system, a general polarization-tuned mirror symmetry breaking mechanism was reported to highly efficiently generate a lateral optical force, enriching the optical manipulation mechanism for mirror-symmetric objects. Non-centrosymmetric topological material has attracted intense attention due to its superior characteristics as compared with the centrosymmetric one, although probing the local quantum geometry in non-centrosymmetric topological material remains challenging. The non-linear Hall (NLH) effect provides an ideal tool to investigate the local quantum geometry. Here, we report a non-centrosymmetric topological phase in ZrTe5, probed by using the NLH effect. The angle-resolved and temperature-dependent NLH measurement reveals the inversion and ab-plane mirror symmetries breaking at <30 K, consistently with our theoretical calculation. Our findings identify a new non-centrosymmetric phase of ZrTe5 and provide a platform to probe and control local quantum geometry via crystal symmetries. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The physicality of the world in which the animal acts--its anatomical structure, physiology, perception, emotional states, and cognitive capabilities--determines the boundaries of the behavioral space within which the animal can operate. Behavior, therefore, can be considered as the subspace that remains after secluding all actions that are not available to the animal due to constraints. The very signature of being a certain creature is reflected in these limitations that shape its behavior. A major goal of ethology is to expose those constraints that carve the intricate structure of animal behavior and reveal both uniqueness and commonalities between animals within and across taxa. Exploratory behavior in an empty arena seems to be stochastic; nevertheless, it does not mean that the moving animal is a random walker. In this study, we present how, by adding constraints to the animal's locomotion, one can gradually retain the 'mousiness' that characterizes the behaving mouse. We then introduce a novel phenomenon of high mirror symmetry along the locomotion of mice, which highlights another constraint that further compresses the complex nature of exploratory behavior in these animals. We link these findings to a known neural mechanism that could explain this phenomenon. Finally, we suggest our novel finding and derived methods to be used in the search for commonalities in the motion trajectories of various organisms across taxa. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The interactions between topology and algebraic geometry expose various interesting properties. This paper proposes the deformations of topological n-manifolds over the automorphic polynomial ring maps and associated isomorphic imbedding of locally flat submanifolds within the n-manifolds. The manifold deformations include topologically homeomorphic bending of submanifolds at multiple directions under algebraic operations. This paper introduces the concept of a topological equivalence class of manifolds and the associated equivalent class of polynomials in a real ring. The concepts of algebraic compositions in a real polynomial ring and the resulting topological properties (homeomorphism, isomorphism and deformation) of manifolds under algebraic compositions are introduced. It is shown that a set of ideals in a polynomial ring generates manifolds retaining topological isomorphism under algebraic compositions. The numerical simulations are presented in this paper to illustrate the interplay of topological properties and the respective real algebraic sets generated by polynomials in a ring within affine 3-spaces. It is shown that the coefficients of polynomials generated by a periodic smooth function can induce mirror symmetry in manifolds. The proposed formulations do not consider the simplectic class of manifolds and associated quantizable deformations. Chirality, an intrinsic property of certain entities in the universe, is characterized by the absence of mirror symmetry. Understanding chirality is crucial as it influences molecular interactions and properties. Circular dichroism (CD), measured using circularly polarized light, is a standard technique for probing chirality, but its sensitivity is often limited. Here, we explore extrinsic chirality (i.e. a property arising from asymmetric achiral materials when observed from out of normal incidence directions), using photo-acoustic spectroscopy (PAS). PAS allows direct measurement of local absorption, by monitoring the heat produced and transferred to the surrounding air, regardless the transmitted, reflected, and scattered light that flows away from the sample. In conventional techniques, the CD is usually measured by taking into account only the extinction as transmitted (or reflected) light. In this study, we introduce a new PAS setup that employs an oblique-incidence laser to study extrinsic chirality in silver-coated self-assembled metasurfaces. Our experimental results reveal intriguing CD trends dependent on the angle of incidence and wavelength, indicative of extrinsic chirality. Human subjects were tested in perception of shapes of 3D objects. The subjects reconstructed 3D shapes by viewing orthographic and perspective images. Perception of natural shapes was very close to veridical and was clearly better than perception of random symmetrical polyhedra. Viewing perspective images led to only slightly better performance than viewing orthographic images. In order to account for subjects' performance, we elaborated the previous computational models of 3D shape reconstruction. The previous models used as constraints mirror-symmetry and 3D compactness. The critical additional constraint was the use of a secondary mirror-symmetry that exists in most natural shapes. It is known that two planes of mirror symmetry are sufficient for a unique and veridical shape reconstruction. We also generalized the model so that it applies to both orthographic and perspective images. The results of our experiment suggest that the human visual system uses two planes of symmetry in addition to two forms of 3D compactness. Performance of the new model was highly correlated with subjects' performance with both orthographic and perspective images, which supports the claim that the most important 3D shape constraints that are used by the human visual system have been identified. In this study, we focused on assessing the symmetry of shapes and quantifying an index of 'order' in three-dimensional shapes using curvature, which is important in product design. Specifically, the target three-dimensional shape was divided into two segments, and the Jensen–Shannon distance was calculated for the distribution of the Casorati curvatures in both segments to determine the similarity between them. This was proposed as an indicator of the 'order' exhibited by the shape. To validate the effectiveness of the proposed index, sensory evaluation experiments were conducted on three shapes: extruded, rotated, and vase. For the rotated shape, the coefficient of determination between the proposed index and the sensory evaluation value of 'order' on a 5-point Likert scale was found to be less than 0.1. The reason for the poor correlation coefficient of determination may be attributed to the bias in human perception, where individuals tend to perceive mirror symmetry with respect to the plane that includes the vertical axis when recognizing the mirror symmetry of an object. In contrast, for the extruded and vase shapes, the coefficients of determination were 0.36 and 0.66, respectively, supporting the validity of the proposed index. Nonetheless, the coefficient of determination decreased slightly for familiar extruded shapes and asymmetric vase shapes. We revisit the Emergence Proposal in the vector multiplet moduli space of type IIA N = 2 supersymmetric string vacua in four dimensions, for which the string tree-level prepotential and the string one-loop correction are exactly known via mirror symmetry. We argue that there exists an exact notion of emergence, according to which these four-dimensional couplings can be computed exactly in any asymptotic limit in field space. In such limits, a perturbative quantum gravity theory emerges, whose fundamental degrees of freedom include all complete infinite towers of states with typical mass scale not larger than the species scale. For a decompactification limit, this picture is closely related to and in fact motivated by the computation of Gopakumar-Vafa invariants. We show that a large subclass of 3d N = 4 quiver gauge theories consisting of unitary and special unitary gauge nodes with only fundamental/bifundamental matter have multiple Seiberg-like IR duals. A generic quiver T in this subclass has a non-zero number of balanced special unitary gauge nodes and it is a good theory in the Gaiotto-Witten sense. We refer to this phenomenon as IR N-ality and the set of mutually IR dual theories as the N-al set associated with the quiver T . Starting from T , we construct a sequence of dualities by step-wise implementing a set of quiver mutations which act locally on the gauge nodes. The associated N-al theories can then be read off from this duality sequence. The quiver T generically has an emergent Coulomb branch global symmetry in the IR, such that the rank of the IR symmetry is always greater than the rank visible in the UV. We show that there exists at least one theory in the N-al set for which the rank of the IR symmetry precisely matches the rank of the UV symmetry. In certain special cases that we discuss in this work, the correct emergent symmetry algebra itself may be read off from this preferred theory (or theories) in addition to the correct rank. Finally, we give a recipe for constructing the 3d mirror associated with a given N-al set and show how the emergent Coulomb branch symmetry of T is realized as a UV-manifest Higgs branch symmetry of the 3d mirror. Trichlorido(4-methylpiperidine)gold(III), [AuCl3(C6H13N)], 1, crystallizes in Pbca with Z = 8. Tribromido(4-methylpiperidine)gold(III), [AuBr3(C6H13N)], 2, crystallizes as two polymorphs, 2a in Pnma with Z = 4 (imposed mirror symmetry) and 2b, which is isotypic to 1. The Au--N bonds trans to Cl are somewhat shorter than those trans to Br, and the Au--Cl bonds trans to N are longer than those cis to N, whereas the Au--Br bonds trans to N are slightly shorter than the cis bonds. The methyl and AuX3 groups (X = halogen) occupy equatorial positions at the six-membered ring. The packing of all three structures involves chains of molecules with offset stacking of the AuX3 moieties associated with short Au...X contacts; for 1 and 2b these are reinforced by N--H...X hydrogen bonds, whereas for 2a there are no classical hydrogen bonds and the chains are interconnected by Br...Br contacts. Overwhelming astronomical evidence for dark matter and absence of any laboratory evidence for it despite many dedicated searches have fueled speculation that dark matter may reside in a parallel universe interacting with the familiar universe only via gravitational interactions as well as possibly via some ultra-weak forces. In this scenario, we postulate that the visible universe co-exists with a mirror world consisting of an identical duplicate of forces and matter of our world, obeying a mirror symmetry. This picture, motivated by particle physics considerations, not only provides a natural candidate for dark matter but also has the potential to explain the matter dark matter coincidence problem, i.e., why the dark matter content of the universe is only a few times the visible matter content. One requirement for mirror models is that the mirror world must be colder than our world to maintain the success of big bang nucleosynthesis. After a review of the basic features of the model, we present several new results: first is that the consistency between the coldness of the mirror world and the explanation of the matter dark matter coincidence implies an upper bound on the inflation reheat temperature of the universe to be around 10 6.5 GeV. We also argue that the coldness implies the mirror world consists mainly of mirror Helium and very little mirror hydrogen, which is the exact opposite of what we see in the visible world. A theoretical account of development in mesocortical anatomy is derived from the free energy principle, operating in a neural field with both Hebbian and anti-Hebbian neural plasticity. An elementary structural unit is proposed, in which synaptic connections at mesoscale are arranged in paired patterns with mirror symmetry. Exchanges of synaptic flux in each pattern form coupled spatial eigenmodes, and the line of mirror reflection between the paired patterns operates as a Markov blanket, so that prediction errors in exchanges between the pairs are minimized. The theoretical analysis is then compared to the outcomes from a biological model of neocortical development, in which neuron precursors are selected by apoptosis for cell body and synaptic connections maximizing synchrony and also minimizing axonal length. It is shown that this model results in patterns of connection with the anticipated mirror symmetries, at micro-, meso- and inter-arial scales, among lateral connections, and in cortical depth. This explains the spatial organization and functional significance of neuron response preferences, and is compatible with the structural form of both columnar and noncolumnar cortex. Twinning, on par with dislocations, is critically required in plastic deformation of hexagonal close-packed crystals at low temperatures. In contrast to that in cubic-structured crystals, twinning in hexagonal close-packed crystals requires atomic shuffles in addition to shear. Though the twinning shear that is carried by twinning dislocations has been captured for decades, direct experimental observation of the atomic shuffles, especially when the shuffling mode is not unique and does not confine to the plane of shear, remains a formidable challenge to date. Here, by using in-situ transmission electron microscopy, we directly capture the atomic mechanism of the 11 2 ¯ 1 twinning in hexagonal close packed rhenium nanocrystals. Results show that the 11 2 ¯ 1 twinning is dominated by the (b1/2, h1/2) twinning disconnections. In contrast to conventional expectations, the atomic shuffles accompanying the twinning disconnections proceed on alternative basal planes along 1/6 1 1 ¯ 00 , which may be attributed to the free surface in nanocrystal samples, leading to a lack of mirror symmetry across the 11 2 ¯ 1 twin boundary. Atomic shuffles are important phenomena accompanying the twinning in hexagonal close-packed crystals, but the direct experimental observation on it is lacking. Flexible control of intrinsic chiroptical responses within compact nanostructures is crucial for flat optics, topological photonics, and chiroptics. However, previous approaches require complicated patterns with both in-plane and out-of-plane mirror symmetry breaking to achieve intrinsic chirality, and their chiroptical responses cannot be dynamically controlled as well. Herein, we demonstrated that near-perfect intrinsic circular dichroism (CD) can be achieved within a lithography-free structure consisting of the twisted bilayer α-MoO3 separated by a vanadium dioxide (VO2) film. By twisting the bilayer α-MoO3, dual-band intrinsic chiroptical responses can be realized due to the excitations of the hyperbolic phonon polaritons modes in the mid-infrared. It is the spin-selected average electric-field enhancement instead of the chiral absorption that is responsible for the intrinsic CD of the device. In addition, the chiroptical responses are insensitive to the variation of the thickness of the structure as well as the incident angle, and high contrast CD can be dynamically tuned by varying the volume fraction of VO2. Mirror symmetry was first observed in worldsheet string constructions, and was shown to have profound implications in the Effective Field Theory (EFT) limit of string compactifications, and for the properties of Calabi–Yau manifolds. It opened up a new field in pure mathematics, and was utilised in the area of enumerative geometry. Spinor–Vector Duality (SVD) is an extension of mirror symmetry. This can be readily understood in terms of the moduli of toroidal compactification of the Heterotic String, which includes the metric the antisymmetric tensor field and the Wilson line moduli. In terms of the toroidal moduli, mirror symmetry corresponds to mappings of the internal space moduli, whereas Spinor–Vector Duality corresponds to maps of the Wilson line moduli. In the past few of years, we demonstrated the existence of Spinor–Vector Duality in the effective field theory compactifications of string theories. This was achieved by starting with a worldsheet orbifold construction that exhibited Spinor–Vector Duality and resolving the orbifold singularities, hence generating a smooth, effective field theory limit with an imprint of the Spinor–Vector Duality. Just like mirror symmetry, the Spinor–Vector Duality can be used to study the properties of complex manifolds with vector bundles. Spinor–Vector Duality offers a top-down approach to the “Swampland” program, by exploring the imprint of the symmetries of the ultra-violet complete worldsheet string constructions in the effective field theory limit. The SVD suggests a demarcation line between (2,0) EFTs that possess an ultra-violet complete embedding versus those that do not.

In order to improve the mechanical properties and durability of lightweight aggregate concrete in extreme environments, this study utilized Inner Mongolia pumice as the coarse aggregate to formulate pumice lightweight aggregate concrete (P-LWAC) with a silica powder content of 0%, 2%, 4%, 6%, 8%, and 10%. Under sulfate dry–wet cycling conditions, this study mainly conducted a mass loss rate test, compressive strength test, NMR test, and SEM test to investigate the improvement effect of silica powder content on the corrosion resistance performance of P-LWAC. In addition, using grey prediction theory, the relationship between pore characteristic parameters and compressive strength was elucidated, and a grey prediction model GM (1,3) was established to predict the compressive strength of P-LWAC after cycling. Research indicates that under sulfate corrosion conditions, as the cycle times and silica powder content increased, the corrosion resistance of P-LWAC showed a trend of first increasing and then decreasing. At 60 cycles, P-LWAC with a content of 6% exhibited the lowest mass loss rate and the highest relative dynamic elastic modulus, compressive strength, and corrosion resistance coefficient. From the perspective of data distribution, various durability indicators showed a clear mirror symmetry towards both sides with a silica powder content of 6% as the symmetrical center. The addition of silica fume reduced the porosity and permeability of P-LWAC, enhanced the saturation degree of bound fluid, and facilitated internal structural development from harmful pores towards less harmful and harmless pores, a feature most prominent at the 6% silica fume mixing ratio. In addition, a bound fluid saturation and pore size of 0.02~0.05 μm/% exerted the most significant influence on the compressive strength of P-LWAC subjected to 90 dry–wet cycles. Based on these two factors, grey prediction model GM (1,3) was established. Polarized thermal emission finds extensive applications in remote sensing, landmine detection, and target detection. In applications such as ellipsometry and biomedical analysis, the generation of emission with controllable polarization is preferred. It is desired to manipulate the polarization state over the full Stokes parameters. While numerous studies have demonstrated either linear or circular polarization control using metamaterials, full-Stokes thermal emission has not been explored. Here, a microstructure based on two layers of silicon carbide gratings is proposed to tailor the polarization state of thermal emission, covering the full-Stokes parameter range. The bilayer twisted-gratings structure breaks mirror symmetry. Wave interference at the interfaces and diffraction by the gratings enhance the emission dichroism, resulting in almost completely polarized emission. By adjusting the twist angle between the gratings, the polarization state can be continuously tuned from linear to circular, nearly covering the entire surface of Poincaré sphere. Two conventional magneto-plasmonic (MP) structures are firstly superimposed with mirror symmetry to form a symmetric MP heterostructure. These two MP components are separated from each other by a noble metallic layer. The unique feature of this novel heterostructure is that both magneto-plasmon modes of the up and down MP portions can be coupled as the spacer becomes thinner. This intertwining effect leads to appearance of a new peak in the angular transverse magneto-optical Kerr effect (TMOKE) curve of the heterostructure. This new peak which is reported for the first time in the TMOKE signal, is generally similar to plasmon induced transparency (PIT) phenomenon observed in plasmonic multilayered structures. We entitle this novel effect as "second resonance of TMOKE signal". More importantly, the occurrence angle and magnitude of the second peak can be controlled by varying the thickness and material of separating layer between two MP parts. Also, the dispersion diagram of the heterostructure shows this coupling so that two branches convert into four branches by reducing the thickness of spacer. Furthermore, coupled oscillators model confirms emergence of the second peak in the TMOKE signal. Chiral active particles (CAPs) are self-propelling particles that break time-reversal symmetry by orbiting or spinning, leading to intriguing behaviors. Here, we examined the dynamics of CAPs moving in 2D lattices of disk obstacles through active Brownian dynamics simulations and granular experiments with grass seeds. We find that the effective diffusivity of the CAPs is sensitive to the structure of the obstacle lattice, a feature absent in achiral active particles. We further studied the transport of CAPs in obstacle arrays under an external field and found a reentrant directional locking effect, which can be used to sort CAPs with different activities. Finally, we demonstrated that parallelogram lattices of obstacles without mirror symmetry can separate clockwise and counter-clockwise CAPs. The mechanisms of the above three novel phenomena are qualitatively explained. As such, our work provides a basis for designing chirality-based tools for single-cell diagnosis and separation, and active particle-based environmental sensors. Mimicking the photosynthesis of green plants to combine water oxidation with CO2 reduction is of great significance for solving energy and environmental crises. In this context, a trinuclear nickel complex, [NiII3(paoH)6(PhPO3)2]·2ClO4 (1), with a novel structure has been constructed with PhPO32− (phenylphosphonate) and paoH (2-pyridine formaldehyde oxime) ligands and possesses a reflection symmetry with a mirror plane revealed by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Bulk electrocatalysis demonstrates that complex 1 can homogeneously catalyze water oxidation and CO2 reduction simultaneously. It can catalyze water oxidation at a near-neutral condition of pH = 7.45 with a high TOF of 12.2 s−1, and the Faraday efficiency is as high as 95%. Meanwhile, it also exhibits high electrocatalytic activity for CO2 reduction towards CO with a TOF of 7.84 s−1 in DMF solution. The excellent electrocatalytic performance of the water oxidation and CO2 reduction of complex 1 could be attributed to the two unique µ3-PhPO32− bridges as the crucial factor for stabilizing the trinuclear molecule as well as the proton transformation during the catalytic process, while the oxime groups modulate the electronic structure of the metal centers via π back-bonding. Therefore, apart from the cooperation effect of the three Ni centers for catalysis, simultaneously, the two kinds of ligands in complex 1 can also synergistically coordinate the central metal, thereby significantly promoting its catalytic performance. Complex 1 represents the first nickel molecular electrocatalyst for both water oxidation and CO2 reduction. We present evidence of a strong circular photon drag effect (PDE) in topological insulators (TIs) through the observation of helicity-dependent topological photocurrents with threefold rotational symmetry using THz spectroscopy in epitaxially-grown Bi2Se3 with reduced crystallographic twinning. We establish how twinned domains introduce competing nonlinear optical (NLO) responses inherent to the crystal structure that obscure geometry-sensitive optical processes through the introduction of a spurious mirror symmetry. Minimizing the twinning defect reveals strong NLO response currents whose magnitude and direction depend on the alignment of the excitation to the crystal axes and follow the threefold rotational symmetry of the crystal. Notably, photocurrents arising from helical light reverse direction for left/right circular polarizations and maintain a strong azimuthal dependence a result uniquely attributable to the circular PDE, where the photon momentum acts as an applied in-plane field stationary in the laboratory frame. In this paper, the concept of heiicai cyclogenesis is discussed, a以owing for a unified interpretation of the existence of intense large-scale long-lived vortices in the atmosphere through the transfer of energy from cloud-scale motions. In 2022, the first evidence of such a phenomenon was found at Jovian high latitudes. The theory introduces ideas about large-scale threshold instabilities in turbulence with broken mirror symmetry. Such turbulence, called helical turbulence, occurs in a rotating, stratified, moist atmosphere. The present publication emphasizes the problem of tropical cyclogenesis in the Earth's atmosphere. In the case of tropical cyclones, these ideas allowed, for the first time, the development of a procedure for the exact diagnosis of the emergence of large-scale helical-vortex instability and interpretation of this event as the birth of a tropical cyclone. Our very simple diagnostics and lucid quantitative criterion of the tropical cyclogenesis are discussed in the context of their successful application to two distinct idealized genesis scenarios and three observed tropical cyclones. In all cases, a nascent vortex became energy-self-sustaining and intensifying dozens of hours before the formation of a tropical depression. The pivotal role of rotating cumulonimbus clouds, known as vortical hot towers (VHTs), is highlighted. They are a necessary element both to provide and to diagnose the instability. These main actors of the helical cyclogenesis are illustrated by authors' photos, satellite imagery, and animation from idealized atmospheric modeling. New fundamental and applied interpretations are offered. The hypothesis on the two-scale vortex dynamoeffect is put forward, which suggests the energy transfer from the VHTs scale, 10-30 km, directly to the mesoscales, hundreds km, of the system circulation of a tropical cyclone. Based on the results of the applied new diagnostics, we propose a definition of tropical cyclogenesis: interpret the onset of helical-vortex instability as the beginning of the genesis stage while considering the formation of a tropical depression as this stage completion. The diagnostics is best suited as a fundamental basis for detecting the "Potential Tropical Cyclone" stage introduced by the U.S. National Weather Service for operational forecasting purposes. Topology plays a crucial role in many physical systems, leading to interesting states at the surface. A paradigmatic example is the Chern number defined in the Brillouin zone that leads to robust gapless edge states. Here we introduce the reduced Chern number, defined in the subregions of Brillouin zone, and construct a family of Chern dartboard insulators with quantized reduced Chern numbers but with trivial bulk topology. Chern dartboard insulators are protected by the mirror symmetries and exhibit distinct pseudospin textures, including (anti)skyrmions, inside the sub-Brillouin zone. These Chern dartboard insulators host exotic gapless edge states, such as Möbius fermions and midgap corner states, and can be realized in the photonic crystals. Our work opens up new possibilities for exploring sub-Brillouin zone topology and nontrivial surface responses in topological systems. A Chern insulator has non-trivial bulk topology with a quantized Chern number defined in the Brillouin zone (BZ), yielding robust gapless edge states. Supramolecular chirality typically originates from either chiral molecular building blocks or external chiral stimuli. Generating chirality in achiral systems in the absence of a chiral input, however, is non-trivial and necessitates spontaneous mirror symmetry breaking. Achiral nematic lyotropic chromonic liquid crystals have been reported to break mirror symmetry under strong surface or geometric constraints. Here we describe a previously unrecognised mechanism for creating chiral structures by subjecting the material to a pressure-driven flow in a microfluidic cell. The chirality arises from a periodic double-twist configuration of the liquid crystal and manifests as a striking stripe pattern. We show that the mirror symmetry breaking is triggered at regions of flow-induced biaxial-splay configurations of the director field, which are unstable to small perturbations and evolve into lower energy structures. The simplicity of this unique pathway to mirror symmetry breaking can shed light on the requirements for forming macroscopic chiral structures. Under strong surface or geometric constraints, achiral nematic liquid crystals can form chiral structures. Using pressure driven flow, Zhang et al. show a pathway to mirror symmetry breaking that does not require such constraints and that occurs in nematic lyotropic chromonic liquid crystals. Ionospheric electrodynamics is a problem of mechanical stress balance mediated by electromagnetic forces. Joule heating (the total rate of frictional heating of thermospheric gases and ionospheric plasma) and ionospheric Hall and Pedersen conductances comprise three of the most basic descriptors of this problem. More than half a century after identification of their central role in ionospheric electrodynamics, several important questions about these quantities, including the degree to which they exhibit hemispheric symmetry under reversal of the sign of dipole tilt and the sign of the y component of the interplanetary magnetic field (so-called "mirror symmetry"), remain unanswered. While global estimates of these key parameters can be obtained by combining existing empirical models, one often encounters some frustrating sources of uncertainty: the measurements from which such models are derived, usually magnetic field and electric field or ion drift measurements, are typically measured separately and do not necessarily align. The models to be combined moreover often use different input parameters, different assumptions about hemispheric symmetry, and/or different coordinate systems. We eliminate these sources of uncertainty in model predictions of electromagnetic work J⋅E (in general not equal to Joule heating ηJ2) and ionospheric conductances by combining two new empirical models of the high-latitude ionospheric electric potential and ionospheric currents that are derived in a mutually consistent fashion: these models do not assume any form of symmetry between the two hemispheres; are based on Apex magnetic coordinates (denoted Apex), spherical harmonics, and the same model input parameters; and are derived exclusively from convection and magnetic field measurements made by the Swarm and CHAMP satellites. The model source code is open source and publicly available. Comparison of high-latitude distributions of electromagnetic work in each hemisphere as functions of dipole tilt and interplanetary magnetic field clock angle indicates that the typical assumption of mirror symmetry is largely justified. Model predictions of ionospheric Hall and Pedersen conductances exhibit a degree of symmetry, but clearly asymmetric responses to dipole tilt and solar wind driving conditions are also identified. The distinction between electromagnetic work and Joule heating allows us to identify where and under what conditions the assumption that the neutral wind corotates with the Earth is not likely to be physically consistent with predicted Hall and Pedersen conductances. Binary droplet collision is a basic fluid phenomenon for many spray processes in nature and industry involving lots of discrete droplets. It exists an inherent mirror symmetry between two colliding droplets. For specific cases of the collision between two identical droplets, the head-on collision and the off-center collision, respectively, show the axisymmetric and rotational symmetry characteristics, which is useful for the simplification of droplet collision modeling. However, for more general cases of the collision between two droplets involving the disparities of size ratio, surface tension, viscosity, and self-spin motions, the axisymmetric and rotational symmetry droplet deformation and inner flow tend to be broken, leading to many distinct phenomena that cannot occur for the collision between two identical droplets owing to the mirror symmetry. This review focused on interpreting the asymmetric droplet deformation and the collision-induced internal mixing that was affected by those symmetry breaking factors, such as size ratio effects, Marangoni Effects, non-Newtonian effects, and droplet self-spin motion. It helps to understand the droplet internal mixing for hypergolic propellants in the rocket engineering and microscale droplet reactors in the biological engineering, and the modeling of droplet collision in real combustion spray processes. Recently, the formation of chiral materials by the self-organization of achiral small molecules has attracted much attention. How can we obtain chirality without a chiral source? Interesting approaches, such as mechanical rotation, circularly polarized light, and asymmetric reaction fields, have been used. We describe recent research developments in supramolecular chirality in liquid crystals, focusing primarily on our group's experimental results. We present the following concepts in this review. Spontaneous mirror symmetry breaking in self-assembled achiral trimers induces supramolecular chirality in the soft crystalline phase. Two kinds of domains with opposite handedness exist in non-equal populations. The dominant domain is amplified to produce a homochiral state. Chirality is transferred to a polymer film during the polymerization of achiral monomers by using the homochiral state as a template. Finally, we discuss how the concepts obtained from this liquid crystal research relate to the origin of homochirality in life. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract One of the hallmark of topological insulators is having conductivity properties that are unaffected by the possible presence of defects. In this work, by going beyond backscattering immunity and topological invisibility across defects or disorder is obtained. Using a combination of chiral and mirror symmetry, the transmission coefficient is guaranteed to be unity. Importantly, but no phase shift is induced making the defect completely invisible. Many lattices possess the chiral‐mirror symmetry, and the principle is chosen to be demonstrated on an hexagonal lattice model with Kekulé distortion displaying topological edge waves, and analytically and numerically is shown that the transmission across symmetry preserving defects is unity. Then this lattice in an acoustic system is realized, and the invisibility is confirmed with numerical experiments. It is foreseen that the versatility of the model will trigger new experiments to observe topological invisibility in various wave systems, such as photonics, cold atoms or elastic waves.

A bilateral wrist joint training and rehabilitation mechanism is designed to meet the requirements of bilateral passive training better than unilateral active training. The rehabilitation mechanism adopts two spatial reverse double crank parallel sub mechanisms. The forward kinematics of the mechanism is analyzed in the spherical coordinate system, and the motion relationship of the two platforms is obtained. The Euler angles of the rolling, pitching and virtual yaw motions of the two platforms are measured, and the front and back muscles are measured simultaneously in the three motion modes. The experimental data shows that when the mechanism is rolling, the angular displacements of both platforms are equal in magnitude and opposite in direction, while the mechanism is pitching, the angular displacements of both platforms are the same in magnitude and direction. The maximum and average electromyography （EMG） values of anterior and posterior muscles measured during the bilateral active training are 319.65 mV and 352.2 mV higher than those measured during the resting state, and 155.9 mV and 184 mV higher than those measured during the unilateral passive training, respectively. The above results show that the developed bilateral training machine has mirror symmetry, can play a training effect on the wrist joint, and the training effect is better than that of the unilateral training.

The Supersymmetry Genetic code (SSyGC) table is based on five physicochemical symmetries: (1) double mirror symmetry on the principle of the horizontal and vertical mirror symmetry axis between all bases (purines [A, G) and pyrimidines (U, C)] and (2) of bases in the form of codons; (3) direct–complement like codon/anticodon symmetry in the sixteen alternating boxes of the genetic code columns; (4) A + T-rich and C + G-rich alternate codons in the same row between both columns of the genetic code; (5) the same position between divided and undivided codon boxes in relation to horizontal mirror symmetry axis. The SSyGC table has a unique physicochemical purine–pyrimidine symmetry net which is as the core symmetry common for all, with more than thirty different nuclear and mitochondrial genetic codes. This net is present in the SSyGC table of all RNA and DNA living species. None of these symmetries are present in the Standard Genetic Code (SGC) table which is constructed on the alphabetic horizontal and vertical U-C-A-G order of bases. Here, we show that the free energy value of each codon incorporated as fundamentally mapping the "energy code" in the SSyGC table is compatible with mirror symmetry. On the other hand, in the SGC table, the same free energy values of codons are dispersed and a mirror symmetry between them is not recognizable. At the same time, the mirror symmetry of the SSyGC table and the DNA quadruplets together with our classification of codons/trinucleotides are perfectly imbedded in the mirror symmetry energy mapping of codons/trinucleotides and point out in favor of maintaining the integrity of the genetic code and DNA genome. We also argue that physicochemical symmetries of the SSyGC table in the manner of the purine–pyrimidine symmetry net, the quadruplet symmetry of DNA molecule, and the free energy of codons have remined unchanged during all of evolution. The unchangeable and universal symmetry properties of the genetic code, DNA molecules, and the energy code are decreasing disorder between codons/trinucleotides and shed a new light on evolution. Diversity in all living species on Earth is broad, but the symmetries of the Supersymmetry Genetic Code as the code of life and the DNA quadruplets related to the "energy code" are unique, unchangeable, and have the power of natural laws. Spin-orbit torque (SOT) is a promising strategy to deterministically switch the perpendicular magnetization, but usually requires an in-plane magnetic field for breaking the mirror symmetry, which is not suitable for most advanced industrial applications. Van der Waals (vdW) materials with low crystalline symmetry and topological band structures, e.g., Weyl semimetals (WSMs), potentially serve as an outstanding system that may simultaneously realize field-free switching and high energy efficiency. Yet, the demonstration of these superiorities at room temperature has not been realized. Here, we achieve a field-free switching of perpendicular magnetization by using a layered type II WSM, TaIrTe4, in a TaIrTe4/Ti/CoFeB system at room temperature with the critical switching current density ~2.4 × 106 A cm-2. The field-free switching is ascribed to the out-of-plane SOT allowed by the low crystal symmetry. Our work suggests that using low-symmetry materials to generate SOT is a promising route for the manipulation of perpendicular magnetization at room temperature. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Polarized thermal emission finds extensive applications in remote sensing, landmine detection, and target detection. In applications such as ellipsometry and biomedical analysis, the generation of emission with controllable polarization is preferred. It is desired to manipulate the polarization state over the full Stokes parameters. While numerous studies have demonstrated either linear or circular polarization control using metamaterials, full-Stokes thermal emission has not been explored. Here, a microstructure based on two layers of silicon carbide gratings is proposed to tailor the polarization state of thermal emission, covering the full-Stokes parameter range. The bilayer twisted-gratings structure breaks mirror symmetry. Wave interference at the interfaces and diffraction by the gratings enhance the emission dichroism, resulting in almost completely polarized emission. By adjusting the twist angle between the gratings, the polarization state can be continuously tuned from linear to circular, nearly covering the entire surface of Poincaré sphere. Aminoacyl-tRNA synthetases (aaRSs) originated from an ancestral bidirectional gene (mirror symmetry), and through the evolution of the genetic code, the twenty aaRSs exhibit a symmetrical distribution in a 6-dimensional hypercube of the Standard Genetic Code. In this work, we assume a primeval RNY code and the Extended Genetic RNA code type II, which includes codons of the types YNY, YNR, and RNR. Each of the four subsets of codons can be represented in a 4-dimensional hypercube. Altogether, these 4 subcodes constitute the 6-dimensional representation of the SGC. We identify the aaRSs symmetry groups in each of these hypercubes. We show that each of the four hypercubes contains the following sets of symmetries for the two known Classes of synthetases: RNY: dihedral group of order 4; YNY: binary group; YNR: amplified octahedral group; and RNR: binary group. We demonstrate that for each hypercube, the group of symmetries in Class 1 is the same as the group of symmetries in Class 2. The biological implications of these findings are discussed. We study the partition functions of topologically twisted 3d N = 2 gauge theories on a hemisphere spacetime with boundary HS2 × S1. We show that the partition function may be localised to either the Higgs branch or the Coulomb branch where the contributions to the path integral are vortex or monopole configurations respectively. Turning to N = 4 supersymmetry, we consider partition functions for exceptional Dirichlet boundary conditions that yield a complete set of 'IR holomorphic blocks'. We demonstrate that these correspond to vertex functions: equivariant Euler characteristics of quasimap moduli spaces. In this context, we explore the geometric interpretation of both the Higgs and Coulomb branch localisation schemes in terms of the enumerative geometry of quasimaps and discuss the action of mirror symmetry. Chirality, the absence of mirror symmetry, is predominant in nature. The chiral nature of the electromagnetic field behaves differently with chiral matter for left circularly polarized and right circularly polarized light. The chiroptical behavior in the sensing of naturally occurring chiral objects is weak, and improving the chiroptical response enhances the chiral sensing platform. This review covers the fundamental concepts of chiral metasurfaces and various types of single- and multi-layered chiral metasurfaces. In addition, we discuss tunable and deep-learning-based chiral metasurfaces. Tunability is achieved by manipulating the meta-atom's property in response to external stimuli for applications such as optical modulation, chiral photonics, advanced sensing, and adaptive optics. Deep-learning modeling techniques, such as CNNs and GANs, offer efficient learning of the complex relationships in data, enabling the optimization and accurate prediction of chiral metasurface properties. The challenges in the design and fabrication of chiral metasurface include achieving broadband performance and scalability and addressing material limitations. Chiral metasurface performance is evaluated by optical rotation, circular dichroism enhancement, and tunability, which are quantified through the spectroscopic measurement of circular dichroism and optical rotation. Chiral metasurface progress enables applications, including metaholography, metalenses, and chiral sensing. Chiral sensing improves the detection of pharmaceuticals and biomolecules, increasing the sensitivity and accuracy of analytical diagnostics. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Dynamic manipulation of terahertz (THz) beams plays an important role in THz application systems. The PB metasurface provides an effective scheme for space separation and deflection of the spin beam. However, mirror symmetry locking of the conjugated spin states severely limits the versatility of the device. In this work, we demonstrate a liquid crystal (LC) cascaded bilayer metasurface that includes an LC layer, anisotropic metasurface, and PB metasurface. By controlling anisotropy and polarization conversion effects, dynamic spin asymmetric transmission is realized. Meanwhile, two different dynamic energy distribution processes are realized between the L and R state with the corresponding deflection side. The results show that the device achieves a large angular spatial dispersion within the frequency-angle scanning range of ±35° to ±75° corresponding to the broadband range of 0.6–1.1 THz. Moreover, it achieves a spin beam spatial separation with a maximum proportion of energy distribution greater than 26 dB, and the active modulation rate in the energy distribution process reaches 98 %. This work provides a dynamic THz spin conversion and efficient large-angle beam scanning, with important potentials in wavelength/polarization division multiplexing and frequency-scanning antenna for large-capacity THz wireless communication, radar, and imaging systems. Symmetry plays a key role in classifying topological phases. Recent theory shows that in the presence of gauge fields, the algebraic structure of crystalline symmetries needs to be projectively represented, which brings extra chance for topological physics. Here, we report a concrete acoustic realization of mirror Chern insulators by exploiting the concept of projective symmetry. Specifically, we introduce a simple but universal recipe for constructing projective mirror symmetry, and conceive a minimal model for achieving the projective symmetry-enriched mirror Chern insulators. Based on our selective-excitation measurements, we demonstrate unambiguously the projective mirror eigenvalue-locked topological nature of the bulk states and associated chiral edge states. We extract the non-abelian Berry curvature and identify the mirror Chern number directly, providing experimental evidence for this exotic topological phase. All experimental results agree well with the theoretical predictions. Our findings give insights into topological systems equipped with gauge fields. A recurring theme in physics has been the discovery of distinctive phases of matter. The Generalized Linear Model (GLM) has been widely used in practice to model counts or other types of non-Gaussian data. This article introduces a framework for feature selection in the GLM that can achieve robust False Discovery Rate (FDR) control. The main idea is to construct a mirror statistic based on data perturbation to measure the importance of each feature. FDR control is achieved by taking advantage of the mirror statistic's property that its sampling distribution is (asymptotically) symmetric about zero for any null feature. In the moderate-dimensional setting, that is, p / n → κ ∈ (0 , 1) , we construct the mirror statistic based on the maximum likelihood estimation. In the high-dimensional setting, that is, p ≫ n , we use the debiased Lasso to build the mirror statistic. The proposed methodology is scale-free as it only hinges on the symmetry of the mirror statistic, thus, can be more robust in finite-sample cases compared to existing methods. Both simulation results and a real data application show that the proposed methods are capable of controlling the FDR and are often more powerful than existing methods including the Benjamini-Hochberg procedure and the knockoff filter. for this article are available online.
