Objective To analyze the ability of micro-implant nails placed in different locations in the posterior region to improve the hard and soft tissues of the labiodental region in patients with gummy smiles to provide a reference for clinicians. Methods This study was reviewed and approved by the Ethics Committee, and informed consent was obtained from the patients. Thirty young female patients with anterior tooth protrusions and gummy smiles were included in the retrospective study; 18 patients had micro-implant nails implanted between the premolars (group A), and 12 patients had implant nails placed between the roots of the premolar and the molar and an intraoperatively placed rocking-chair archwire (group B). The preoperative and postoperative distances from the incisal end of the upper mesial incisors to the lower point of the upper lip (U1-Stms), the vertical distance from the incisal end of the upper mesial incisors to the palatal plane (U1-PP), the vertical distance from the point of the alveolar ridge to the palatal plane (Spr-PP), the distance from the incisal end of the upper mesial incisors to the point of the alveolar margin (U1-Spr), and the vertical distance from the point of the proximal middle buccal cusp of the maxillary first molar to the palatal plane of the maxillary first molar (U6-PP) were measured in the cephalometric lateral radiographs of the two groups; additionally, the amount of hard and soft tissues of the upper anterior region exposedduring smiling and the maximum amount of gingiva exposed during smiling were assessed from the smile photograph. Results After correction, the lip-dentition relationship improved significantly in both groups, with an average reduction of 2.6 mm in U1-Stms, 2.4 mm in U1-PP, 1.4 mm in Spr-PP, and 0.9 mm in U1-Spr in Group A. In group B, the U1-Stms was reduced by an average of 2.3 mm, the U1-PPs by an average of 1.6 mm, the Spr-PPs by 1.4 mm, and the U1-Spr by 0.2 mm. The difference between pre- and postoperative U6-PP in both groups was not significant (P>0.05). Group A had greater ∆U1-PP and ∆U1-Spr changes than group B(PP>0.05). The amount of soft and hard tissue exposed and maximum amount of gingiva exposed in the upper anterior region of the smile were reduced in 30 patients postoperatively, with group A having anaverage reduction of 70.19% of the preoperative amount of soft and hard tissue exposed in the upper anterior region and an average reduction of 24.12% of the preoperative maximum amount of gingiva exposed, and group B having an average reduction of 76.12% of the preoperative amount of hard and soft tissue exposed in the upper anterior region and an average reduction of 31.88% of the preoperative maximum gingiva exposed after the operation. The difference in the ratio between the two groups was not statistically significant (P>0.05). Conclusion For patients with proptosis and gummy smiles, placing micro-implant nails between the roots of maxillary premolars can effectively lead to retraction and intrusion of anterior teeth to improve the lip-dentition relationship and improve gummy smile, and placing micro-implant nails between the roots of the maxillary second premolar and the first molar together with the use of rocking chair arches can also achieve a good therapeutic effect.

Purpose: Intrinsic capacity (IC), a crucial indicator for the United Nations Decade of Healthy Ageing 2021– 2030, is defined by WHO as the foundation of functional ability, representing the composite of all physical and mental capacities of an individual. IC spans five function domains: Locomotor, psychological, cognitive, vitality, and sensory (including vision and hearing). Accurate IC assessment is vital for effective interventions, yet comparative analyses of these tools are scarce. Consequently, we evaluated the diagnostic accuracy of three IC assessment tools in individuals aged 80 and above—Integrated care for older people (ICOPE) Step 1, ICOPE Step 2, and the Lopez-Ortiz's IC scoring system. Patients and Methods: This cross-sectional analysis included a total of 475 participants aged ≥ 80 years between July 2023 and January 2024 in 11 nursing homes in Ningbo, Zhejiang Province, China. To assess that included sociodemographic and health-related information alongside the three IC tools. Diagnostic efficacy was gauged using sensitivity, specificity, negative predictive value (NPV), positive predictive value (PPV), accuracy, Youden index, and the area under the curve (AUC). Results: The detection of IC decline exceeded 85% across all methods. Using ICOPE Step 2 as a benchmark, ICOPE Step 1 showed robust performance across four domains of locomotion, psychological, cognitive, and vitality, whereas the Lopez-Ortiz's IC scoring system was generally ineffective. Conclusion: All three IC assessment methods have limitations. To save resources, ICOPE Step 1 can be considered for direct assessment in non-sensory domains. Conversely, the ICOPE Step 2 and Lopez-Ortiz's IC scoring systems exhibited overly stringent and lenient thresholds, respectively. At this stage, IC assessment tools cannot balance subjectivity and objectivity; thus, it is recommended that the appropriate tool be selected according to actual application scenarios. In order to build a digital platform for power grid, it is necessary to expedite the construction of information collection, processing and the other links, improve holographic perception ability, support multiple intelligent applications, and maximize the data value of the power Internet of Things (IoT). There are problems in massive perception layer terminals, such as different types, diverse communication modes, vertical business deployment, independent platform systems, and information collection barriers. The lack of unified standards and specifications makes it difficult to promote the construction progress of the IoT. It is, therefore, urgent and important to find a unified and universal power IoT adaptation access method to obtain a flexible, standardized, and safe access for all IoT terminals based on maximum utilization of the equipment and protection of the investment.

This study aimed to investigate whether α-fetoprotein (AFP) could affect the malignant behavior of AFP-producing gastric cancer (AFP-GC) and to explore the relationship between AFP and mesenchymal–epithelial transition factor (c-Met) in AFP-GC. In this study, 23 patients with AFP-GC (AFP[+]) and 18 patients with common gastric cancer (AFP[−]) were evaluated for the c-Met expression using immunohistochemical analysis. The AFP-GC cell line, GCIY, was used. The AFP endoribonuclease-prepared small interfering RNA (siRNA) and eukaryotic AFP overexpression vector were used to increase/knockdown the expression of AFP. Afterward, the c-Met expression was evaluated by polymerase chain reaction and western blot. The proliferation, migration, and invasion of GCIY cells were estimated before and after the AFP overexpression/knockdown. The c-Met expression in both groups was the same (p > 0.05), and AFP[+] group had a higher positive incidence of the c-Met expression than the AFP[−] group (p < 0.01). Furthermore, the c-Met expression frequency was decreased by AFP knockdown and increased by AFP overexpression (p < 0.01). The cell counting kit-8 cell proliferation assay, cell invasion, and migration assays confirmed that the AFP could affect the malignant biological behavior of AFP-GC. These findings suggest that AFP contributes to the malignant biological properties of AFP-GC and the high expression of c-Met in AFP-GC.

Although existing object detectors achieve encouraging performance of object detection and localisation under real ideal conditions, the detection performance in adverse weather conditions (snowy) is very poor and not enough to cope with the detection task in adverse weather conditions. Existing methods do not deal well with the effect of snow on the identity of object features or usually ignore or even discard potential information that can help improve the detection performance. To this end, the authors propose a novel and improved end‐to‐end object detection network joint image restoration. Specifically, in order to address the problem of identity degradation of object detection due to snow, an ingenious restoration‐detection dual branch network structure combined with a Multi‐Integrated Attention module is proposed, which can well mitigate the effect of snow on the identity of object features, thus improving the detection performance of the detector. In order to make more effective use of the features that are beneficial to the detection task, a Self‐Adaptive Feature Fusion module is introduced, which can help the network better learn the potential features that are beneficial to the detection and eliminate the effect of heavy or large local snow in the object area on detection by a special feature fusion, thus improving the network's detection capability in snowy. In addition, the authors construct a large‐scale, multi‐size snowy dataset called Synthetic and Real Snowy Dataset (SRSD), and it is a good and necessary complement and improvement to the existing snowy‐related tasks. Extensive experiments on a public snowy dataset (Snowy‐weather Datasets) and SRSD indicate that our method outperforms the existing state‐of‐the‐art object detectors. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective To investigate the effect of caffeine consumption on skin wound healing and scar formation in mice. Methods The mouse model was established according to our previous method of chronic intervention with caffeine combined with the model of full-thickness skin wound on the back. Wound closure was traced every 2 days in each group using transparent film until the wound closed, and the scar areas were calculated at 30 d after healing. The sections were stained with hematoxylin-eosin (HE) to observe the changes in epithelial cells crawling and thickness of granulation tissue at 3, 6 and 9 d after wounding, and scar width and the thinness-to-thickness ratio of the epithelium in the scar tissue at 30 d after healing with the aid of Labwork 4.0 software. Masson staining was used to analyze the collagen changes of the wound at 6 d after wounding and of the scar tissue at 30 d after healing. Immunohistochemical assay was used to observe the changes of CD31 and CD11b protein levels in wound tissue at 6 d after wounding. Results Results The healing time of caffeine group was delayed by 28.3%, and the scar area was reduced by 56.8% when compared with that of the control group. In the process of wound healing, the crawling length of epithelium and the thickness of granulation tissue were significantly decreased in the caffeine group than the control group (P < 0.01), the collagen content and the expression level of CD31 in the wound were also decreased (P < 0.01), and the expression level of CD11b was obviously enhanced (P < 0.01). Meanwhile, compared with the control group, the caffeine group had significantly decreased scar width (P < 0.01), higher thickness of scar tissue epithelium (P < 0.01), but similar collagen content in the scar and the surrounding undamaged subcutaneous collagen. Conclusion Caffeine consumption can delay the wound healing in mice, but attenuate scar formation.

Purpose: While previous studies have extensively examined the impact of receiving positive social support during social support interactions on depressive symptoms among older adults, adverse effects experienced, such as being rejected or ignored, are often overlooked. Moreover, there has been limited discussion on the effects of giving social support to others. Thus, this study investigates the impacts of social support given by disabled older adults to others on their own depressive symptoms, as well as the mediating role of receiving social support (both positive and negative aspects) and the moderating effect of the activity of daily living (ADL). Patients and Methods: This cross-sectional, community-based study was conducted in Wenzhou and Jiaxing City, China, from September 2021 to September 2022, with a total of 255 disabled older adults meeting the inclusion and exclusion criteria. The data were collected face-to-face using a structured questionnaire. The participants were asked to complete the Barthel Index Scale, the Chinese version of the Positive and Negative Social Exchange Scale, the Giving Social Support questionnaire, and the Short Form Chinese Geriatric Depression Scale to measure disability, receiving positive and negative social support, giving social support, and depressive symptoms, respectively. Descriptive statistical analysis, correlation analysis, mediation effect tests, and moderation effect tests were used to analyse the questionnaire data. Results: The social support provided by disabled older adults to others primarily involved companionship and care. The positive aspect of social support received was largely emotional support, while the negative aspect was mainly characterised by failure to obtain help and unsympathetic behaviour. Providing social support was found to be associated with a potential beneficial effect on depressive symptoms, linked to lower severity, with this effect fully mediated by receiving social support. Specifically, receiving emotional support accounted for 56.63% of the effect size, while failure to obtain help and unsympathetic behaviour contributed 21.55%, and rejection and neglect collectively accounted for 21.83%. Additionally, the effect was partially moderated by ADL, with older adults exhibiting lower ADL scores showing a greater benefit from both giving and receiving social support compared to those with higher ADL scores. Conclusion: It is imperative to recognise and encourage disabled older adults to provide social support to others, especially emotional support, while reducing negative feedback, such as neglect and unnecessary blame. To extend the practicability of ceramics in immobilizing nuclear waste with fluctuant composition, structural design should be abandoned. The simulated tetravalent actinide waste An4+ (Ce4+) was directly doped into prepared Gd2Zr2O7, and the waste forms were synthesized by high‐temperature solid‐state reaction. It has been shown that the maximum loading of CeO2 in Gd2Zr2O7 lies between 20 and 30 wt.%, and Ce elements are uniformly distributed in the matrix. Existing in Ce3+ and Ce4+, cerium ions automatically occupied both the Gd and Zr sites in Gd2Zr2O7 according to valence equilibrium. This occupation causes the change of r(A3+)/r(B4+) and eventually leads to the structure transition from pyrochlore to fluorite. In addition, the normalized leaching rate of the sample with 60 wt.% of dopant was about 2.5 × 10−7 g m−2 d−1 on the 35th day.
