Background and Objectives: With the goal of identifying regions with bicortical bone and avoiding root contact, the present study proposes an innovative technique for the simulation of the insertion of mini orthodontic implants using automatic jaw segmentation. The simulation of mini implants takes place in 3D rendering visualization instead of Multi-Planar Reconstruction (MPR) sections. Materials and Methods: The procedure involves utilizing software that automatically segments the jaw, teeth, and implants, ensuring their visibility in 3D rendering images. These segmented files are utilized as study models to determine the optimum location for simulating orthodontic implants, in particular locations characterized by limited distances between the implant and the roots, as well as locations where the bicortical structures are present. Results: By using this method, we were able to simulate the insertion of mini implants in the maxilla by applying two cumulative requirements: the implant tip needs to be positioned in a bicortical area, and it needs to be situated more than 0.6 mm away from the neighboring teeth's roots along all of their axes. Additionally, it is possible to replicate the positioning of the mini implant in order to distalize the molars in the mandible while avoiding the mandibular canal and the path of molar migration. Conclusions: The utilization of automated segmentation and visualization techniques in 3D rendering enhances safety measures during the simulation and insertion of orthodontic mini implants, increasing the insertion precision and providing an advantage in the identification of bicortical structures, increasing their stability. Background: Removable prostheses have seen a fundamental change recently because of advances in polymer materials, allowing improved durability and performance. Despite these advancements, notable differences still occur amongst various polymer materials and processing technologies, requiring a thorough grasp of their mechanical, physical, and therapeutic implications. The compressive strength of dentures manufactured using various technologies will be investigated. Methods: Traditional, injection molding, and additive and subtractive CAD/CAM processing techniques, all utilizing Polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) as the main material, were used to construct complete dentures. The specimens underwent a compressive mechanical test, which reveals the differences in compressive strength. Results: All the specimens broke under the influence of a certain force, rather than yielding through flow, as is characteristic for plastic materials. For each specimen, the maximum force (N) was recorded, as well as the breaking energy. The mean force required to break the dentures for each processing technology is as follows: 4.54 kN for traditional packing-press technique, 17.92 kN for the injection molding technique, 1.51 kN for the additive CAD/CAM dentures, and 5.9 kN for the subtractive CAD/CAM dentures. Conclusions: The best results were obtained in the case of the thermoplastic injection system and the worst results were recorded in the case of 3D printed samples. Another important aspect depicted is the standard deviation for each group, which reveal a relatively unstable property for the thermoplastic injected dentures. Aim of the study Prevention and early management of oro-dental complications in cancer therapy will improve oral function and quality of life and reduce morbidity and cost of care. Oral hygiene was strongly recommended before cancer treatment, and preventive measures and oral care should be continued during and after cancer treatment. The aim of this study was to evaluate the level of patients' knowledge about the importance of oral hygiene and optimal dental status in order to minimize the occurrence of adverse effects during chemotherapy treatment in an oncology clinic in Romania. Material and methods A four-part questionnaire was used in the attempt to evaluate the prevalence of oral adverse effects during chemotherapy, knowledge, attitude and practices applied before and during treatment regarding the prevention and maintenance of oral and dental health. Results The results of this study show that 79.1% of patients presented at least one adverse effect in the oral cavity. Following the analyses, 8.3% of the patients declared that they had knowledge that the preventive oro-dental treatment was an integral part of the oncological pathway and only 2.7% of the patients followed preventive dental treatments before the cancer therapy. Conclusions The role of all medical specialties involved in cancer therapy is essential to educate patients to adhere to preventive treatments and strengthen their motivation in oral hygiene. This article, published in the Romanian Journal of Oral Rehabilitation, examines the impact of various fabrication methods on the flexural strength of complete dentures. The study compares three different technologies: the classic press packing process and traditional polymerization, the injection technology and polymerization under constant pressure, and an original suction-injection process with polymerization under continuous pressure. The findings indicate that the suction-injection method with sustained pressure polymerization produces superior results compared to the other two methods. The study highlights the importance of selecting the appropriate fabrication technology to ensure the durability and strength of denture bases. [Extracted from the article]

Since the emergence of the disease in late December 2019, numerous studies have been published to date regarding clinical, laboratory and treatment aspects associated with COVID-19. The present study attempts to compare and unify the clinical, para-clinical and therapeutic aspects that have come to light regarding coronavirus disease-19 (COVID 19), mainly in adults. Between April 2020 and September 2021, a comprehensive systematic literature review was performed, which we added to from our own medical experiences. The search was performed on the PubMed, Scopus and Google Scholar databases, comprising studies with analyzable data that were identified alongside studies and documents containing general scientific data. All published studies were written in English, and were from different countries. A 95% confidence interval (CI95) was also calculated for almost each study using the Wilson formula. When compared with preliminary reports between December 2019 and January 2020, the most frequent symptoms were still identified as being fever (68.6%; CI95: 67.5-69.7) and cough (72.7%; CI95: 71.7-73.8). Nevertheless, asymptomatic cases also increased (by 21.4%; CI95: 16.6-27.1). Severe and critical cases accounted for 10.4% (CI95: 9.6-11.1) of all cases. The mean fatality rate was found to be 4% (CI95: 3.6-4.5). The primary co-morbidity found was hypertension (28.9%; CI95: 27-30.8), followed by other underlying cardiovascular diseases (15.4%; CI95: 13.9-16.9) and diabetes (14.5%; CI95: 13.1-16.1). The majority of studies showed lower white blood cell numbers with neutropenia and lymphopenia, and lower platelet levels. The levels of the biomarkers C-reaction protein and erythrocyte sedimentation rate were positive in all studied cases alongside other lab tests, such as examining the D-dimer levels and those of other hepatic, cardiac and renal injury markers. The procalcitonin level was also found to be elevated in many cases, resulting in high usage of antibiotics (83.7%; CI95: 81.2-85.9). Approximately 31.6% (CI95: 29.1-34.1) of the patients required non-invasive ventilation, whereas 9.9% (CI95: 8.1-12.1) of the patients were intubated or placed on extracorporeal membrane oxygenation. The most used antivirals were ribavirin (67.3%; CI95: 63.4-70.9), oseltamivir (52.5%; CI95: 49.4-55.5) and Arbidol™ (34.5%; CI95: 32-37.1).
