Background: Social media applications and their use among students have increased in the last decade. However, their impact on academic performance remains unclear. This study aimed to investigate the relationship between social media usage and the academic performance of medical students at Fazaia Ruth Pfau Medical College, Karachi, Pakistan. Methods: This is a cross-sectional study pertaining to 200 medical students' viewpoints of 2nd to 4th-year medical students of Fazaia Ruth Pfau Medical College in 2023. A research-made online questionnaire consisting of four demographic questions and three main components was designed to gather data. The data was collected from January to February 2023, and all 300 participants were asked to fill out an informed consent before participating in the study. Finally, 200 participants filled out the questionnaires completely. The Microsoft Office Excel software kit and SPSS Version 24 were used for data analyses. Results: The students' most commonly used applications were YouTube, LMS (Moodle, etc.), Osmosis, WhatsApp, Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook, respectively, with an average of 4 to 5 hours using these applications for educational purposes. The survey also revealed that 54% of participants prefer e-learning, while 46% still value traditional books for comprehension. Using social media for educational activities showed a positive relation with academic performance (P=0.024). Conclusion: It appears that the practical use of social media could significantly influence students' academic performance. According to the findings of this study, YouTube is the most crucial social media platform for students. This suggests that students prefer video-based platforms, and it would be advantageous to consider this for future educational planning and virtual learning. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The development of semiconductor photocatalysts has recently witnessed notable momentum in the photocatalytic degradation of organic pollutants. ZnO is one of the most widely used photocatalysts; however, its activity is limited by the inefficient absorption of visible light and the fast electron–hole recombination. The incorporation of another metal or semiconductor with ZnO boosts its performance. In this present study, a heterostructured ZnO-Bi2O3 composite was synthesized via a simple co-precipitation method and was investigated for the UV-driven photocatalytic degradation of the Reactive Orange 16 (RO16), a model textile dye. The successful fabrication of ZnO-Bi2O3 microstructures with crystalline nature was characterized using X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and energy-dispersive X-ray (EDX). The discoloration of the dye solution was quantified using UV–Vis spectroscopy to determine the photocatalytic efficiency. The photocatalytic activity results demonstrated that the photodegradation at ZnO-Bi2O3 heterojunction was more efficient and 300 and 33% faster than individual Bi2O3 and ZnO catalysts, respectively, an effect that is indicative of a synergistic effect. In the presence of ZnO-Bi2O3 particles, the UV light-driven activity for RO16 degradation was twice as high as in its absence. The influence of adding the oxidant H2O2 on the UV-induced photocatalytic degradation was investigated and the results revealed a two-time increase in the photocatalytic activity of ZnO-Bi2O3 compared to UV irradiation alone, which could be ascribed to a summative degradative effect between UV and H2O2. This study examined the mediating role of corporate social responsibility practices and the nexus between the operational excellence of competitive strategies, and performance, for Islamic banks operating in Pakistan. Particularly, two competitive strategies, namely, the cost-sensitive strategy and the differentiation strategy were considered. This study employed a structured questionnaire to collect the data from 512 respondents (361 from fully-fledged Islamic banks, FFIBs, and 151 from Islamic window banks, IWBs). A partial least square–structural equation modeling approach was employed to test the hierarchal component model. As a robustness check, the Gaussian copula approach was used to address the endogeneity issue, and the Partial least square prediction-oriented segmentation approach was adopted to explore the unobserved heterogeneity. The findings showed evidence of complementary partial mediation between competitive strategies and bank performance, channeled through operational excellence. However, corporate social responsibility (CSR) practices partially mediated the relationship between cost-sensitive strategy and bank performance. The purpose of the startup approach is to find an appropriate course of action that adds value to the economy’s development. This study is aimed to determine the effect of the lean startup approach with mediating effect of business coaching to foster innovative work behavior in women entrepreneurs. Additionally, the study also examines the moderating effect of age on the lean startup approach and innovative work behavior. A quantitative approach was employed. The findings show that the relationship between the lean startup approach and innovative work behavior is significant. Moreover, the findings also revealed a significant mediating effect of business coaching and moderating effect of age. This research encourages practitioners and scholars to deal with women entrepreneurship incubation initiatives in the lean startup methodology. Furthermore, this study also leads to a deeper understanding of women’s ideas for business exploration, growth, and implementation. Purpose: Entrepreneurship is a vital tool for the economic development of any country. As a field of research, entrepreneurship has become a diversified area of study. A plethora of studies appeared that investigate the antecedents of entrepreneurial intention, most of them focus on personality traits and other psychological factors. However, the studies focus less on practical entrepreneurial education such as internship and business incubation. Thus, the current study seeks to fill this gap by empirically investigating the impact of business incubators and internship programs on student's entrepreneurial intention in the Pakistani context. Methodology: The authors collected data through a structured questionnaire from students and ran partial least square structural equation modeling technique by SmartPLS software. Findings: The results show that business incubators and internship programs have a strong and positive statistically significant impact on entrepreneurial intentions. Implication: The current study can help policy-makers get a better insight on entrepreneurship so as to improve its innovation, proactivity, and risk-taking ability and how these factors can amend the lack of entrepreneurial awareness among business students. Introduction: Patients with diabetes require healthcare and information that are accurate and extensive. Large language models (LLMs) like ChatGPT herald the capacity to provide such exhaustive data. To determine (a) the comprehensiveness of ChatGPT's responses in Urdu to diabetes-related questions and (b) the accuracy of ChatGPT's Urdu responses when compared to its English responses., Methods: A cross-sectional observational study was conducted. Two reviewers experienced in internal medicine and endocrinology graded 53 Urdu and English responses on diabetes knowledge, lifestyle, and prevention. A senior reviewer resolved discrepancies. Responses were assessed for comprehension and accuracy, then compared to English., Results: Among the Urdu responses generated, only two of 53 (3.8%) questions were graded as comprehensive, and five of 53 (9.4%) were graded as correct but inadequate. We found that 25 of 53 (47.2%) questions were graded as mixed with correct and incorrect/outdated data, the most significant proportion of responses being graded as such. When considering the comparison of response scale grading the comparative accuracy of Urdu and English responses, no Urdu response (0.0%) was considered to have more accuracy than English. Most of the Urdu responses were found to have an accuracy less than that of English, an overwhelming majority of 49 of 53 (92.5%) responses., Conclusion: We found that although the ability to retrieve such information about diabetes is impressive, it can merely be used as an adjunct instead of a solitary source of information. The green synthesis of nanomaterials is of utmost interest as it offers an eco-friendly approach over chemical synthetic routes. However, the reported biosynthesis methods are often time-consuming and require heating or mechanical stirring. The current study reports a facile one-pot biosynthesis of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) mediated by olive fruit extract (OFE) and sunlight irradiation of only 20 s. OFE acts as both a reducing and a capping agent for the formation of OFE-capped AgNPs (AgNPs@OFE). The as-synthesized NPs were systematically characterized by UV-vis spectrometry, Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, scanning electrochemical microscopy with energy-dispersive X-ray (SEM-EDX), X-ray diffraction (XRD), dynamic light scattering (DLS), and cyclic voltammetry. SEM images confirmed the successful formation of monodispersed spherical AgNPs@OFE of approximately 77 nm. FTIR spectroscopy suggested the involvement of functional groups of phytochemicals from the OFE in the capping and reduction of Ag + to Ag. The particles revealed excellent colloidal stability as evidenced from the high zeta potential (ZP) value (-40 mV). Interestingly, using the disk diffusion method, AgNPs@OFE revealed higher inhibition efficiency against Gram-negative bacteria ( Escherichia coli , Klebsiella oxytoca , and extensively drug-resistant (XDR) Salmonella typhi ) than Gram-positive bacteria ( Staphylococcus aureus ), with Escherichia coli showing the highest inhibition zone of 27 mm. In addition, AgNPs@OFE exhibited maximum potent antioxidant scavenging potential against H 2 O 2 , followed by DPPH, O 2 - , and OH - free radicals.
