21. Smoke Priming, a Potent Protective Agent Against Salinity: Effect on Proline Accumulation, Elemental Uptake, Pigmental Attributes and Protein Banding Patterns of Rice (Oryza Sativa)

Abstract

The exogenous application of plant derived smoke solution through seed pre treatment is consider to create tolerance in the plant against salinity, for this purpose different dilution of plant derived smoke solution as 1:5000 Buhania, 1:1000 Buhania, 1:1000 Cymbopogon, 1:500 Cymbopogon were used against 0 mM, 50, 100 and 150mM NaCl solution in the medium. The effect was observed on total proline accumulation, heavy metals uptake, photosynthetic pigments and protein polypeptide bands intensity in two rice varieties as Basmati 385 (B-385) and Shaheen Basmati (S. Basmati). Proline concentration increases while chlorophyll “a” chlorophyll “b” and carotene level decreases with increasing salinity. On other hand zinc concentration increases while cadmium and lead concentration decrease in the crop under saline conditions. Intensity of protein polypeptides bands decreases gradually with increasing salinity level but plants from the seeds soaked with smoke solution alleviate the drastic affect of salinity, and intensity of bands is quite good by comparing with non primed seeds. It is concluded that seed priming with plant derived smoke solution show beneficial effect on crop to protect them from salinity.

Abstract

A family of chemical compounds known as metal–organic networks (MONs) is composed mainly of clusters of metal ions with organic ligands. It can increase volatility or make substances soluble in organic solvents. By using these salient features, organic compounds generate applications in material sciences for sol–gel processing. A graph’s entropy is utilized as a complexity indicator and is interpreted as the structural information content of the graph. Investigating the entropies of relationship systems is a common occurrence in discrete mathematics, computer science, information theory, statistics, chemistry, and biology. In this article, we investigated the degree-based entropies: geometric arithmetic entropy, atom bond connectivity entropy, general Randic′ entropy, and general sum connectivity entropy for MONs. Furthermore, we created tables for all expressions by using 1–10 values for the ss parameter of these entropies.

36. Phenomena of Degree Completion in Distance Education: An Explanatory Case Study of Higher Education

Abstract

The number of students being enrolled in distance learning institutes is huge, which is a token of success for this mode of education. But literature showed that many students could not complete their degrees due to various reasons. Some of the reasons are common but can vary in different regions according to resources available and socio-economic conditions of learners. This study was designed to determine completion rate along with exploring factors affecting their degree completion. Mix method approach was used to conduct the study. Quantitative data was retrieved from admission office and controller office for ten years. Semi-structured interviews were conducted from those students who could not complete their degrees. The analysis showed 40% average completion rate of distance learners for 10 years. The inductive analysis of interview data uncovered 30 factors that affected the degree completion of distance learners. The implications of the study were vibrant to utilize digital gadgets to improve communication, better academic facilities, activating student support services unit and proper dissemination of information through social media sites. There is enough evidence to bring necessary reforms in administrative and instructional framework of the university to meet the growing needs of distance learners to enhance their degree completion rate.

Abstract

Graph operations are crucial for building complicated network architectures from simple graphs. In [7], authors defined two new variants of Corona product and investigated some topological indices. In this paper, we extended the work and found the formulas of forgotten, first hyper Zagreb, and reduced second Zagreb indices for Corona join product and sub-division vertex join products of graphs.

Abstract

: Introduction: Following HIV testing services (HTS), the World Health Organization recommends prompt linkage to prevention and treatment. Scale‐up of effective linkage strategies is essential to achieving the global 95‐95‐95 goals for maintaining low HIV incidence by 2030 and reducing HIV‐related morbidity and mortality. Whereas linkage to care including same‐day antiretroviral therapy (ART) initiation for all people with HIV is now routinely implemented in testing programmes, linkage to HIV prevention interventions including behavioural or biomedical strategies, for HIV‐negative individuals remains sub‐optimal. This review aims to evaluate effective post‐HTS linkage strategies for HIV overall, and highlight gaps specifically in linkage to prevention. Methods: Using the five‐step Arksey and O'Malley framework, we conducted a scoping review searching existing published and grey literature. We searched PubMed, Cochrane Library, CINAHL, Web of Science and EMBASE databases for English‐language studies published between 1 January 2010 and 30 November 2023. Linkage interventions included as streamlined interventions—involving same‐day HIV testing, ART initiation and point‐of‐care CD4 cell count/viral load, case management—involving linkage coordinators developing personalized HIV care and risk reduction plans, incentives—financial and non‐financial, partner services—including contact tracing, virtual—like social media, quality improvement—like use of score cards, and peer‐based interventions. Outcomes of interest were linkage to any form of HIV prevention and/or care including ART initiation. Results: Of 2358 articles screened, 66 research studies met the inclusion criteria. Only nine linkage to prevention studies were identified (n = 9/66, 14%)—involving pre‐exposure prophylaxis, voluntary medical male circumcision, sexually transmitted infection and cervical cancer screening. Linkage to care studies (n = 57/66, 86%) focused on streamlined interventions in the general population and on case management among key populations. Discussion: Despite a wide range of HIV prevention interventions available, there was a dearth of literature on HIV prevention programmes and on the use of messaging on treatment as prevention strategy. Linkage to care studies were comparatively numerous except those evaluating virtual interventions, incentives and quality improvement.
