Cystic partially differentiated nephroblastoma is a rare renal tumor of childhood. It is part of a spectrum of multicystic renal tumors that also includes cystic nephroma and cystic Wilms’ tumor. We present a case of cystic partially differentiated nephroblastoma, highlighting the clinical and imaging diagnostic challenge. Although the histological diagnostic criteria for all these 3 entities are well established, they are clinically and radiologically indistinguishable. Cystic partially differentiated nephroblastoma is often observed in male children under 2 years old. Typical clinical presentations include abdominal masses, abdominal pain and/or hematuria. Patients should be treated according to tumor histology and stage.

Teachers’ conceptions about the origin of life in three Latin American countries with contrasting levels of secularism were analyzed: Argentina (Catholic constitution), Brazil (formally secular but not in practice), and Uruguay (consolidated secularism). A European survey questionnaire was used and the interpretation of the results drew on Barbour's four categories concerning the relationships of science and religion. A large majority of Argentinian and Uruguayan teachers were clearly evolutionist, even when believing in God (Independence or Dialogue category), with no difference between Argentina and Uruguay. The majority of Brazilian teachers assumed a religious position about the origin of life, being creationist (Conflict or Independence categories) or evolutionary creationist (Dialogue or Integration categories). Differences of Brazilian teachers’ conceptions may result from the higher percentage of evangelicals and lower proportion of agnostics/atheists. Brazilian Catholic teachers were more creationist than their Catholic colleagues in Argentina and Uruguay. Introdução: No século XIX, Charles Darwin trouxe a ideia da seleção natural em seu livro “A Origem das Espécies” revolucionando a ciência, a Biologia e a sociedade. A seleção natural constitui uma das bases para o ensino da evolução biológica. Em contrapartida, atualmente cresce o número de adeptos hipótese do design inteligente que propóe Deus como um arquiteto que planejou de forma perfeita todos os seres que existem, inclusive sugerindo o seu ensino, apesar de não haver respaldo científico. Objetivo e Metodologia: Para analisar as concepções referentes a esses temas aplicou-se o questionário europeu BIOHEAD-CITIZEN para alunos do segundo, quarto e sexto período do curso de Ciências Biológicas do UNIFOR-MG. Foram utilizadas as questões B.43 e B.44 que se referiam “Qual a importância dos seguintes assuntos na evolução das espécies”. B43: Seleção Natural e B44: Um programa intrínseco ao organismo (design inteligente). Resultados: Através do teste de qui-quadrado, percebeu-se que há diferença significativa nas respostas entre os períodos do curso de Ciências Biológicas Observou-se que apesar de haver grande aceitação da teoria da seleção natural, há também um número relevante de adeptos ao design inteligente, o que mostra uma incapacidade de discernir o meio científico de suas concepções culturais e religiosas. Por outro lado, apesar da persistência da crença no design inteligente através do curso, houve um incremento na compreensão da importância da seleção natural no processo evolucionário. Conclusão: É importante continuar a investigação sobre esses temas para entender como essas concepções repercutem no ensino do tema por esses futuros professores.
