Abstract

Background Cardiac blunt trauma clinically presents as a spectrum of injuries of varying severity. However, the diagnosis of complications of remote myocardial trauma is often challenging, especially if the patient forgets to mention a remote history of chest trauma. Case summary In this study, we present a patient who recently experienced traumatic myocardial dissection and interventricular septal rupture, alongside three patients exhibiting a mimic double-chambered left ventricle, indicative of prior remote myocardial trauma potentially associated with myocardial dissecting tear. Discussion Patients with recent severe myocardial injury are detectable through cardiac imaging. However, forgotten remote myocardial trauma can lead to adverse myocardial remodelling, heart failure, and arrhythmias. Long-term myocardial remodelling can obscure initial myocardial imaging characteristics, posing challenges in interpretation. Our case series suggests that remote myocardial trauma may be more prevalent than commonly thought of in clinical practice. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

Observability is a key aspect of the state estimation problem of SLAM, However, the dimension and variables of SLAM system might be changed with new features, to which little attention is paid in the previous work. In this paper, a unified approach of observability analysis for SLAM system is provided, whether the dimension and variables of SLAM system are changed or not, we can use this approach to analyze the local or total observability of the SLAM system.

16. Effective Pedestrian Detection Using Center-symmetric Local Binary/Trinary Patterns

Abstract

Accurately detecting pedestrians in images plays a critically important role in many computer vision applications. Extraction of effective features is the key to this task. Promising features should be discriminative, robust to various variations and easy to compute. In this work, we present novel features, termed dense center-symmetric local binary patterns (CS-LBP) and pyramid center-symmetric local binary/ternary patterns (CS-LBP/LTP), for pedestrian detection. The standard LBP proposed by Ojala et al. \cite{c4} mainly captures the texture information. The proposed CS-LBP feature, in contrast, captures the gradient information and some texture information. Moreover, the proposed dense CS-LBP and the pyramid CS-LBP/LTP are easy to implement and computationally efficient, which is desirable for real-time applications. Experiments on the INRIA pedestrian dataset show that the dense CS-LBP feature with linear supporct vector machines (SVMs) is comparable with the histograms of oriented gradients (HOG) feature with linear SVMs, and the pyramid CS-LBP/LTP features outperform both HOG features with linear SVMs and the start-of-the-art pyramid HOG (PHOG) feature with the histogram intersection kernel SVMs. We also demonstrate that the combination of our pyramid CS-LBP feature and the PHOG feature could significantly improve the detection performance-producing state-of-the-art accuracy on the INRIA pedestrian dataset., Comment: 11 pages

This study aimed to investigate the crucial genes and regulatory networks involved in the carcinogenesis of NPC using a bioinformatics approach.Methods: Five mRNA and two miRNA expression datasets were downloaded from the Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) database. Differentially expressed genes (DEGs) and miRNAs (DEMs) between NPC and normal samples were analyzed using R software. The WebGestalt tool was used for functional enrichment analysis, and protein–protein interaction (PPI) network analysis of DEGs was performed using STRING database. Transcription factors (TFs) were predicted using TRRUST and Transcriptional Regulatory Element Database (TRED). Kinases were identified using X2Kgui. The miRNAs of DEGs were predicted using miRWalk database. A kinase–TF–mRNA–miRNA integrated network was constructed, and hub nodes were selected. The hub genes were validated using NPC datasets from the GEO and Oncomine databases. Finally, candidate small-molecule agents were predicted using CMap.Results: A total of 122 DEGs and 44 DEMs were identified. DEGs were associated with the immune response, leukocyte activation, endoplasmic reticulum stress in GO analysis, and the NF-κB signaling pathway in KEGG analysis. Four significant modules were identified using PPI network analysis. Subsequently, 26 TFs, 73 kinases, and 2499 miRNAs were predicted. The predicted miRNAs were cross-referenced with DEMs, and seven overlapping miRNAs were selected. In the kinase–TF–mRNA–miRNA integrated network, eight genes (PTGS2, FN1, MMP1, PLAU, MMP3, CD19, BMP2, and PIGR) were identified as hub genes. Hub genes were validated with consistent results, indicating the reliability of our findings. Finally, six candidate small-molecule agents (phenoxybenzamine, luteolin, thioguanosine, reserpine, blebbistatin, and camptothecin) were predicted.Conclusion: We identified DEGs and an NPC regulatory network involving kinases, TFs, mRNAs, and miRNAs, which might provide promising insight into the pathogenesis, treatment, and prognosis of NPC.Keywords: nasopharyngeal carcinoma, differentially expressed genes, microRNA, transcription factor, kinase, bioinformatics

Although the aetiology of cisplatin-induced hearing loss (CIHL) remains unknown, an increasing body of research suggests that it is associated with excessive generation of intracellular reactive oxygen species (ROS) in the cochlea. Astaxanthin, a xanthophyll carotenoid, has powerful anti-oxidant, anti-inflammatory, and anti-apoptotic properties based on its unique cell membrane function, diverse biological activities, and ability to permeate the blood-brain barrier. In this review, we summarize the role of ROS in CIHL and the effect of astaxanthin on inhibiting ROS production. 48. The Optimal Head Position Following Intratympanic Injection: A Research Based on HRCT Reconstruction

Abstract

Objective:This study aimed to investigate the optimal head position (OHP) following intratympanic injection, a critical intervention in treating inner ear disorders. Identifying OHP is essential to maximize drug retention in the middle ear, thereby significantly enhancing the therapeutic efficacy by mitigating the significant issue of injectate leakage through the eustachian tube (ET). Exploratory various positions of ET orifice and round window (RW) were investigated and associated with head movements. Methods:Twenty-two (10 males and 12 females) anonymized high-resolution computed tomography (HRCT) datasets of patients without structural ear disease were selected from January 2022 to December 2022 in the study. The subjects were categorized into two groups: children (≤18 years) and adult group (>18 years). The reconstruction of the ET orifice and RW from HRCT were analyzed using Mimics software and the distances from the center point of ET orifice or the center point of RW to the reference plane were defined as distance of ET orifice (DET) and distance of RW (DRW). Results:In the supine position, the OHP for intratympanic injection was 23°of pronation and 24° of posterior extension, and the maximum distance between the ET orifice and RW (DET-RW) was 9.29 ± 2.13 mm. As the head position extended posteriorly beyond 43°, DETwas relatively high compared with DRW, resulting in the OHP a fully posteriorly extended 90° of the head being the optimal position with DET-RWof 2.13 ± 1.60 mm in the supine position, however, it is not realized in human beings. Moreover, the OHP had no obvious relevance corresponding to age following intratympanic injections. Conclusion:Our study suggested that OHP after intratympanic injections treatment consists of supine position, along with a slight pronation and posterior extension.
