With the advent of the era of big data, an increasing amount of duplicate data are expressed in different forms. In order to reduce redundant data storage and improve data quality, data deduplication technology has never become more significant than nowadays. It is usually necessary to connect multiple data tables and identify different records pointing to the same entity, especially in the case of multi-source data deduplication. Active learning trains the model by selecting the data items with the maximum information divergence and reduces the data to be annotated, which has unique advantages in dealing with big data annotations. However, most of the current active learning methods only employ classical entity matching and are rarely applied to data deduplication tasks. To fill this research gap, we propose a novel graph deep active learning framework for data deduplication, which is based on similarity algorithms combined with the bidirectional encoder representations from transformers (BERT) model to extract the deep similarity features of multi-source data records, and first introduce the graph active learning strategy to build a clean graph to filter the data that needs to be labeled, which is used to delete the duplicate data that retain the most information. Experimental results on real-world datasets demonstrate that the proposed method outperforms state-of-the-art active learning models on data deduplication tasks.

Abstract A significant number of steep cracks are frequently encountered in underground engineering, posing a threat to operation. The high-pressure grouting method is a commonly utilized repair technique. Nevertheless, conventional grout is prone to displacement due to its weight, making it challenging to ensure adequate filling of the cracks. Therefore, this study aims to develop a grouting material with targeted displacement and anchoring properties. Firstly, an optimal magnetic slurry composition was determined through an orthogonal test. Subsequently, XRD and SEM were used to analyze the impact of the magnetic field on the composition distribution, internal pore structure, and transient viscosity of the slurry. Afterwards, a model for localized grout diffusion under magnetic was established. The results show that the application of a magnetic field caused the slurry to compact due to magnetic forces, reducing its porosity. Moreover, the dynamic viscosity of the slurry increased exponentially with rising magnetic induction intensity. Notably, a 40.5% increase in the diffusion area was observed when the magnetic field intensity rose from 2500 to 4500 GS. The error between the measured and theoretical values of the magnetic slurry diffusion model was only 8.91%, indicating the model's accuracy in describing the slurry diffusion process under magnetic field influence.

Background: This study aimed to clarify whether the neuroprotective effect of LXA4 is associated with the targeting of neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs) in ischemic stroke (IS). Methods: The MCAO rat model was established to assess cerebral infarction, brain water content and neurological deficits. ELISA was employed to examine the activities of MPO, NE, MMP-9. RT-qPCR and western blot was performed to analyze molecular expressions. A luciferase reporter assay was performed to measure the effect of EGR1 on the METTL3 promoter. The formation of NETs and cell viability were evaluated using immunofluorescence staining and CCK8 assay, respectively. Results: LXA4 decreased cerebral infarction and brain water content, improved neurological deficits, and reduced the release of NETs-associated indicators (MPO, NE) in MCAO rats. LXA4 reduced NETs formation, MPO and NE levels in vitro. In addition, LXA4 reduced Fe2 + levels while increasing GPX4, SLC7A11 protein expressions, as well as enhancing cell viability in vitro, suggesting the inhibitory effect of LXA4 on ferroptosis. Notably, METTL3 overexpression produced the opposite effects. Furthermore, the effects of METTL3 overexpression on NETs formation and ferroptosis were partially reversed by LXA4 treatment. The inhibition of METTL3 by LXA4 was found to be dependent on FPR2. In vivo experiments verified that LXA4 inhibited NETs formation through inhibition of METTL3 to alleviate brain injury. Conclusion: This study demonstrates that LXA4 suppresses NETs formation through the FPR2-dependent regulation of METTL3, thereby alleviating brain injury in IS.

This is an article in the field of metallurgical engineering. The vanadium ore with vanadium containing sericite and illite in Shaanxi province was taken as the research object, low-temperature sulfuric acid ripening-water leaching process was used to extract vanadium. The effects of ripening temperature, ripening time, sulfuric acid dosage, sodium chloride dosage, leaching temperature, leaching time and liquid-solid ratio on vanadium leaching rate were investigated. The results show when 25% sulfuric acid and 0.8% sodium chloride are added to the stone coal vanadium ore, the sample is aged at 130 ℃ for 8 h, and the sample is leached at 55 ℃ for 2 h under the conditions of liquid-solid ratio of 1.5∶1, the vanadium leaching rate can reach more than 89%. This indicates that it is feasible to adopt low temperature sulfuric acid ripening and water leaching process to extract stone coal type vanadium ore.

Emerging evidence suggests that circular RNAs (circRNAs) are involved in the regulation of tumourigenesis and progression of a variety of malignant tumours. In this study, we aimed to identify laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma (LSCC)-specific circRNAs and explore their biological functions and underlying molecular mechanisms. Employing microarray and qRT-PCR, hsa_circ_0000825 was found to be significantly increased in LSCC tissues versus para-cancerous tissues. High hsa_circ_0000825 expression was positively associated with advanced clinical stages, lymph node metastasis, and poor survival. Furthermore, the overexpression of hsa_circ_0000825 in TU177 and AMC-HN-8 cells promoted cell proliferation. Transwell assays showed enhanced migration and invasion of TU177 and AMC-HN-8 cells upon overexpression of hsa_circ_0000825. Conversely, the knockdown of hsa_circ_0000825 had the opposite effect. Xenograft tumours in BALB/c nude mice derived from hsa_circ_0000825-overexpressed TU177 cells showed greater volume and weight than those derived from control TU177 cells. Mechanistically, nuclear-cytoplasmic fractionation assay confirmed that hsa_circ_0000825 was mainly located in the cytoplasm of TU177 and AMC-HN-8 cells. The AGO2-RNA immunoprecipitation (RIP) assay revealed that hsa_circ_0000825 was significantly enriched in the AGO2-precipitated complex in both TU177 and AMC-HN-8 cells, suggesting that this circRNA may function via a competitive endogenous RNA (ceRNA) mechanism. Next, bioinformatics analysis, biotinylated-oligo pull-down assay and dual-luciferase reporter assay verified that miR-766 could be sponged by hsa_circ_0000825 and also target 3′UTR of HOXD10 mRNA. Moreover, miR-766 was shown to be involved in the pro-oncogenic effect of hsa_circ_0000825. This occurred via the mediation of hsa_circ_0000825-enhanced HOXD10 mRNA by the ceRNA mechanism in TU177 and AMC-HN-8 cells. Besides, RNA-binding protein (RBP) ELAVL1 interacted with hsa_circ_0000825 in TU177 and AMC-HN-8 cells, as revealed through bioinformatics analysis, biotinylated-oligo pull-down assays, and RIP assays. In recent years, the incidence of neurodegenerative diseases (NDs) has gradually increased over the past decades due to the rapid aging of the global population. Traditional research has had difficulty explaining the relationship between its etiology and unhealthy lifestyle and diets. Emerging evidence had proved that the pathogenesis of neurodegenerative diseases may be related to changes of the gut microbiota’s composition. Metabolism of gut microbiota has insidious and far-reaching effects on neurodegenerative diseases and provides new directions for disease intervention. Here, we delineated the basic relationship between gut microbiota and neurodegenerative diseases, highlighting the metabolism of gut microbiota in neurodegenerative diseases and also focusing on treatments for NDs based on gut microbiota. Our review may provide novel insights for neurodegeneration and approach a broadly applicable basis for the clinical therapies for neurodegenerative diseases.

Background: Glycolysis is an indispensable process for tumor cell,but the effect of glycolysis on the prognosis and immune cell infiltration of head and neck squamous cell carcinoma is not clear. Methods: Based on RNA bulk and single cell RNA sequencing data of head and neck squamous cell carcinoma from The Cancer Genome Atlas(TCGA) and GSE195832, the effect of glycolysis level on immune cell infiltration was analyzed. Then, we obtained the prognostic genes related to glycolysis through survival analysis to construct prognostic risk signature. Our sample and GSE65858 datasets are used as external verification datasets to verify the validity of the signature. Finally, we used Western blot and cell function assays to determine the relationship between risk genes and glycolysis and the function of prognostic genes. Result: The level of glycolysis was related to the prognosis of head and neck tumors (P = 0.0044). The results of immune infiltration analysis of TCGA database showed that high level glycolysis subgroup had less infiltration of macrophages, T cells and monocytes. Results of single cell sequencing analysis validates the above results. Additionally, Five risk genes(MUCL1,TRIML2,RAB3B,SPINK6,IGSF11) were selected to construct signature.Risk score was an independent prognostic factor(P < 0.01). The external validation set also shows the same result. In vitro functional and Western blot assays confirmed that the above five genes affect tumor function and related to the process of glycolysis. Conclusion: Glycolysis-related risk signatures can be used to predict the prognosis and immune infiltration of head and neck squamous cell carcinoma.

Abstract Accurate and sensitive near‐infrared (NIR) luminescent lateral flow immunoassay (LFIA) has attracted considerable attention in the field of point‐of‐care testing (POCT). However, the detection accuracy and sensitivity are often compromised by the low fluorescence quantum efficiency ( 800 nm) completely eliminated background interference and allowed highly accurate and sensitive detection without any pre‐treatment steps. The limits of detection (LODs) for aflatoxin B1 (AFB1) in soy sauce, alpha hemolysin (Hla) of Staphylococcus aureus biomarker in joint fluid, and C‐reactive protein (CRP) in human haemolysed samples were 0.01 ng mL−1, 0.02 µg mL−1, and 0.156 mg L−1, respectively, commensurating with those of the corresponding gold standard assays and covering the detection range of interests. It is anticipated that the ultrabright NIR AIEgen nanoparticles will serve as a universally applicable signal probe for NIR‐LFIA diagnostics, promising to expand the range of applications for quantitative detection of complex samples.

Abstract Laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma (LSCC) is a common malignancy of the head and neck. Recently, circular RNA (circRNA) has been studied extensively in multisystem diseases. However, there are few research on biological functions and molecular mechanisms of circRNAs in LSCC. CircRNA array was used to detect the differentially expressed circRNAs. Kaplan–Meier and cox regression analysis were used to identify survival based on circMMP9. The qRT-PCR, RNase R treatment, sanger sequencing and in situ hybridization were used to verify circMMP9 expression, characteristics and localization in LSCC tissues and cells. Functionally, colony formation, MTS, transwell and in vivo assays were proceeded to detect the biological function of circMMP9 in LSCC progression. The RNA-seq was conducted to identify the molecular targets of circMMP9. Mechanically, MeRIP, RNA Immunoprecipitation (RIP), RNA pulldown, Chromatin immunoprecipitation (ChIP) and dual-luciferase reporter assays were carried on to verify the regulatory mechanism of circMMP9. CircMMP9 was discovered upregulated in LSCC tissues and cells, and high level of circMMP9 was associated with poor prognosis, low degree of pathological grading, high TNM stage and lymph node metastasis of LSCC. CircMMP9 knockdown prevented LSCC progression both in vitro and in vivo, whereas, circMMP9 overexpression had the opposite effect. CircMMP9 was stabilized by IGF2BP2 in m6A-dependent manner. TRIM59 was identified as downstream target of circMMP9. CircMMP9 recruited ETS1 to stimulate TRIM59 transcription. Moreover, TRIM59 accelerated LSCC progression via activating the PI3K/AKT signal pathway. Our findings offered a unique regulatory mechanism for circMMP9 in LSCC, as well as a novel proof that circMMP9 may be utilize as a diagnostic marker and therapeutic target for LSCC patients.

Purpose: To analyze and compare clinical research trends and hot topics in allergic rhinitis (AR) and asthma and provide valuable theoretical data and references for future research. Methods: Clinical studies focusing on AR or asthma published from 2013 to 2023 were retrieved from the Web of Science Core Collection. Eligible articles were screened and analyzed using bibliometrics from multiple indicators. Results: A total of 261 eligible articles on AR and 991 qualified articles on asthma were screened. The following bibliometric analyses identified the Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology as the most influential publication on AR and asthma and proved the significant contributions of Harvard University in clinical studies on AR and asthma. The analyses also revealed that the top ten prolific authors for AR were from China, the United Kingdom, Japan, and Germany, whereas the top ten productive authors for asthma were mainly from the USA. Collaborations among countries for AR were relatively concentrated in the Occident, whereas international cooperation on asthma was mainly achieved by the Occident and certain Eastern countries. Conclusions: This study compared and analyzed the current status and evolution of AR and asthma-related clinical research using bibliometric analysis. Additionally, the study comprehensively summarized the impactful authors, institutions, and countries, and revealed the replacement and evolution of hotspots.

Abstract Traumatic or degenerative joint pain is abundant in the population. Symptom relief by intra- and periarticular glucocorticoid administration is frequently used, however may have potentially devastating effects, changing the normal healing process of the joint. Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) are important for wound-healing processes due to their multipotency in regenerating osteoblasts, chondrocytes and adipocytes but also have immunomodulatory properties. The aim of this study was to investigate the impact of triamcinolone acetonide (TA) a common glucocorticoid administrated intra- and periarticularly, on human bone marrow derived MSC viability, functionality, multi-lineage differentiation and transcriptomic output. We found that TA treatment induced apoptosis and promoted adipogenesis while impairing chondrogenesis of MSCs. RNA sequencing indicated that TA modulated the inflammatory response of MSCs, which may have an impact on the immunologic environment where the inflammatory phase is a physiological part of the natural healing process. These data indicate that triamcinolone acetonide should be used with consideration bearing the patient’s outcome in mind, with the intention to optimize joint recovery and homeostasis.

This is an essay in the field of metallurgical engineering. Taking a lithium mica ore in Jiangxi as raw material, the roasting-leaching, mixed acid ripening, direct acid leaching and alkali pressure cooking process were explored. Finally, the sulfate roasting-water leaching method was used to extract lithium from lithium mica ore. At the same time, the effects of roasting temperature, roasting time, additive type, additive amount, liquid-solid ratio and leaching temperature on lithium leaching rate were studied. The results show that roasting temperature has a great influence on lithium leaching rate, and the leaching effect of lithium is better in the appropriate roasting temperature range. 40% potassium sulfate, 20% sodium sulfate and 20% calcium oxide were added to the lithium mica ore, calcinated at 900 ℃ for 1 h, and the calcine was leached at room temperature for 1 h according to the liquid-solid ratio of 1∶1. The lithium leaching rate reached 94.87%. This shows that the effect of using sulfate as an additive to roast and extract lithium is better. Through the study of the roasting mechanism, it can be seen that the mineral structure is reconstructed after the addition of sulfate after high temperature roasting. The sodium and potassium ions in the ore are replaced with lithium ions in the lithium mica, so that they are separated from the insoluble aluminum silicate minerals to generate soluble lithium sulfate, which is then immersed in water and then into the solution.

Abstract The PI3K/Akt signalling pathway is associated with the occurrence and development of tumours and significantly affects the prognosis of patients. We established a predictive signature based on the PI3K/Akt pathway to predict the prognosis of patients. The RNA-seq and clinical data of laryngeal cancer patients were downloaded from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) database. Three lncRNAs (MNX1-AS1, LINC00330, LSAMP-AS1) were selected through univariate, multivariate Cox and log-rank test analysis to establish a prognostic signature. Beam hopping (BH) technology is one of effective ways to solve limitation of beam resources and enhance the system coverage ability of low earth orbit (LEO) satellite systems.Existing research typically considers beam hopping resource allocation for a single LEO satellite, however, the actual LEO system is covered by multiple satellites in multiple orbits, and existing research ignores beam interference between satellites, which can easily lead to a decrease in system throughput and service quality.To address these issues, this paper designs an interference aware cooperative resource allocation for LEO with beam hopping (IARA-BH), aiming to maximize the beam service satisfaction (BSS).A BH resource allocation scheme by multi satellite interference coordination based on simulated annealing algorithm (MSIC-SAA) is proposed to solve the optimization problem.Simulation experiments show that compared to beam hopping resource allocation schemes that only consider a single satellite, the BSS of the MSIC-SAA algorithm has been improved by 47.24%, the average signal to interference noise ratio (SINR) has been improved by 27.40%, and the system throughput has been improved by 22.92%.

Abstract Background Alexithymia, a subclinical cognitive-affective impairment, is prevalent in older people and increases the risk of mental disorders. There is a vast alexithymia treatment gap, with majority of older people in nursing homes lacking access to adequate mental health care. The study aimed to evaluate the effects of rational emotive behavior therapy (REBT) on alexithymia, anxiety, depression and sleep quality of older people in nursing homes. Methods This quasi-experimental study was conducted with two groups (the control group and intervention) from March to November 2021. This study enrolled 86 participants, two of whom were lost to follow-up; 42 received usual care (control group) and 42 received REBT based on usual care (intervention group) in nursing homes. The older people in both groups were evaluated at baseline (T0), within one-week post-intervention (T1), and at 3-month follow-up (T3). Generalized estimating equations were used by SPSS version 26 to assess the differential change in the outcomes between the two groups. At present, the optimization of public transportation networks and vehicle scheduling are carried out independently in stages. However, through analysis, it has been found that scheduling information such as route schedules is an important factor related to passenger route selection. Therefore, in order to further improve the optimization effect, this article proposes an innovative idea of simultaneously optimizing the line network and scheduling. Based on the construction of a real–virtual public transportation network, this article constructs a synchronous optimization model for the line network and scheduling by considering both passenger waiting and on-board time. To achieve the consideration of passengers for different route choices, a shortest path traversal algorithm based on Yen was proposed to analyze the number and weight of the shortest paths between the same OD, and a genetic algorithm was used to solve the model. Finally, the effectiveness of the model was verified through numerical examples, and the results showed that synchronous optimization was superior to phased optimization: the passenger time cost was reduced by 21.5%, the bus operation cost was reduced by 13.7%, and the total bus system cost was reduced by 18.0%.

According to the characteristics of cyanine tailings in Xiajiadian gold ore, hydrogen peroxide oxidation method and sodium percarbonate (solid hydrogen peroxide solution) oxidation method were carried out to test and study the effect of cyanogen-breaking tailings, aiming to make the cyanogen-breaking tailings meet the backfilling and utilization requirements of HJ 943-2018 《Technical Specification for The Control of Cyanide Residue pollution in the Gold Industry》. The results showed that the cyanide breaking effect of sodium percarbonate (solid hydrogen peroxide) oxidation method was not as good as that of hydrogen peroxide, but the pH value of cyanogen-containing tailings slurry was adjusted to 9, and 2 g/L hydrogen peroxide was used to break the cyanide for 1 h without adding the catalyst CuSO4. The total cyanide content of tailings could be reduced to less than 0.9 mg/kg, and the leaching toxicity index of tailings could meet the requirements of standard backfill utilization.

Lung cancer progression relies on angiogenesis, which is a response to hypoxia typically coordinated by hypoxia-inducible transcription factors (HIFs), but growing evidence indicates that transcriptional programs beyond HIFs control tumor angiogenesis. Here, we show that the redox-sensitive transcription factor BTB and CNC homology 1 (BACH1) controls the transcription of a broad range of angiogenesis genes. BACH1 is stabilized by lowering ROS levels; consequently, angiogenesis gene expression in lung cancer cells, tumor organoids, and xenograft tumors increased substantially following administration of vitamins C and E and N-acetylcysteine in a BACH1-dependent fashion under normoxia. Moreover, angiogenesis gene expression increased in endogenous BACH1–overexpressing cells and decreased in BACH1-knockout cells in the absence of antioxidants. BACH1 levels also increased upon hypoxia and following administration of prolyl hydroxylase inhibitors in both HIF1A-knockout and WT cells. BACH1 was found to be a transcriptional target of HIF1α, but BACH1’s ability to stimulate angiogenesis gene expression was HIF1α independent. Antioxidants increased tumor vascularity in vivo in a BACH1-dependent fashion, and overexpressing BACH1 rendered tumors sensitive to antiangiogenesis therapy. BACH1 expression in tumor sections from patients with lung cancer correlated with angiogenesis gene and protein expression. We conclude that BACH1 is an oxygen- and redox-sensitive angiogenesis transcription factor.

Background Metabolic reprogramming is a key marker in the occurrence and development of tumors. This process generates more reactive oxygen species (ROS), promoting the development of oxidative stress. To prevent ROS from harming tumor cells, tumor cells can increase the production of reducing agents to counteract excessive ROS. NMRAL2P has been shown to promote the production of reductive mRNA and plays an important role in the process of oxidative stress. Methods In this study, the clinical data and RNA sequencing of head and neck tumors were obtained from The Cancer Genome Atlas data set. The long non-coding RNA (LncRNA) related to oxidative stress were then identified using differential and correlation analyses. The differential expression and prognosis of the identified lncRNA were then verified using samples from the library of the Second Hospital of Hebei Medical University. Only NMRAL2P was substantially expressed in cancer tissues and predicted a poor prognosis. The tumor-promoting impact of NMRAL2P was then confirmed using in vitro functional assays. The data set was then split into high- and low-expression subgroups based on the median gene expression of NMRAL2P to obtain the mRNA that had a large difference between the two groups, and examine the mechanism of NMRAL2P on GPX2 using quantitative real-time PCR, RNA binding protein immunoprecipitation assay, and chromatin immunoprecipitation. Mass spectrometry was used to identify NMRAL2P-binding proteins and western blotting was used to investigate probable mechanisms. Results The lncRNA NMRAL2P is associated with oxidative stress in head and neck tumors. In vitro functional assays showed that the gene has a cancer-promoting effect, increasing lactic acid and superoxide dismutase production, and reducing the production of ROS and malondialdehyde. NMRAL2P promotes the transcription of GPX2 by binding to transcription factor Nrf2. The gene also inhibits the degradation of ENO1, a crucial enzyme in glycolysis, by binding to protein ENO1. Conclusions This study shows that NMRAL2P can promote glycolysis and reduce the harm to tumor cells caused by ROS. The gene can also be used as a possible target for the treatment of head and neck tumors.

Wetlands are one of the most important ecosystems as habitats for many animal and plant species and are crucial for disaster mitigation, improving environmental quality, storing carbon, and responding to climate change. However, these sensitive ecosystems have been heavily affected by anthropogenic activities, including aquaculture. In this study, we used multitemporal satellite imagery integrated with a verified field survey method to map the coverage of the wetland ecosystem in the Dong Rui commune, Tien Yen district, Quang Ninh Province, Vietnam, five times for four periods from 1975 to 2022, with high accuracy (overall accuracy = 92.3%, Kappa = 0.91). The results showed that from 1975 to 2000, the area of mangrove forests declined sharply (by nearly 2,000 ha), mainly due to policies of development and conversion of land use. From 2000 to 2022, the mangrove forest area was gradually restored, while the area under aquaculture shrank. Anthropogenic impacts, especially the effects of local economic development, and conservation and developmental policies, are the main causes of continuous change in each short period. Our study demonstrates satellite imagery as an effective tool for assessing wetland ecosystem area fluctuations and assessing the extent of human impacts on this natural ecosystem. Our findings can serve as a basis for planning, conservation strategies, and sustainable development of wetland ecosystems and for improving the associated livelihoods of the communities.

In order to improve the utilization efficiency of acid leaching vanadium tailing, the sintered ceramsite for building was prepared by adding clay and fly ash with Shangluo Qianjiaping vanadium tailing as the main raw material. The proportion of materials, the parameters of granulation process, the preheating and roasting conditions in the preparation of ceramsite were systematically studied. The results show that when the ratio of vanadium tailing, clay and fly ash is 6:1:3, granulating water granulation water consumption is 18%, granulation time is 15 min, preheating temperature is 400℃, preheating time is 30 min, roasting temperature is 1160℃, roasting time is 20 min, the high strength ceramsite with compression strength of 11.58 Mpa, packing density of 1014.7 kg/m3 and water absorption of 5.61% can be obtained. SEM and XRD analysis indicate that in the process of ceramsite synthesis, quartz, anorthite and albite phases has been generated and formed mineral aggregates with compact structure and good pore skeleton, thus increasing the strength of ceramsite.

Mineral processing technology and technological mineralogy were studied complex polymetallic lead-copper-zinc sulfide ores from Inner Mongolia. Findings show that the valuable elements in the ore are Cu, Pb, Zn and Ag, and the copper, lead and zinc minerals are metasomatized and wrapped each other, among which galena and chalcopyrite are wrapped, and the particle size of the wrapped galena is not uniform. Galena and sphalerite are mostly in continuous relationship, and the contact surface between them is smooth and straight, which is easy to separate. The silver mineral is associated with these metal minerals, so the ores was used by the technological process of mixed flotation of copper and lead, separation of copper and lead and zinc flotation from tailings. Finally, a total of 3 concentrate products were obtained. In the copper concentrate, the average grades of Cu and Ag were 18.41% and 594.82 g/t with 86.53% and 25.30% recovery rates. In the lead concentrate, the average grades of Pb and Ag were 62.70% and 428.05 g/t with 85.01% and 54.62% recovery rates. In the zinc concentrate, the average grades of Zn and Ag were 28.12% and 165.75 g/t with 59.99% and 4.80% recovery rates; The total recovery of silver reached 84.72%, which realized the comprehensive recovery of valuable elements in ore.

Long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) have an effect on the occurrence and progression of a considerable number of diseases, especially cancer. Existing research has suggested that MAGI2 antisense RNA 3 (MAGI2-AS3) takes on a critical significance in the development of hepatocellular carcinoma and lung cancer. However, the functions of MAGI2-AS3 in laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma (LSCC) remain unclear. In this study, MAGI2-AS3 expression level in LSCC tissue and cell lines was detected, and the effect of MAGI2-AS3 overexpressed on LSCC phenotypes and the possible influence mechanisms were examined. MAGI2-AS3 was downregulated in the tissues of LSCC patients versus non-tumor tissues, and it was correlated with advanced TNM (tumor, node, metastasis) stage and lymph node metastases, as indicated by the results of this study. MAGI2-AS3 inhibited the proliferation, migration, and invasion of LSCC cells in vitro and in vivo . Furthermore, the hypermethylation level of the MAGI2-AS3 promoter region was indicated by bisulfite genomic sequencing and methylation-specific polymerase chain reaction, such that MAGI2-AS3 expression was downregulated. Besides, MAGI2-AS3 promoter hypermethylation was regulated by DNA methyltransferase 1 (DNMT1), and MAGI2-AS3 expression was reversed by 5-Aza-2′-deoxycytidine (5-Aza). Moreover, the result of the RNA pull-down experiment suggested that 38 proteins were enriched in the MAGI2-AS3 group versus the control group in TU177 cells. To be specific, SPT6 (ie, a conserved protein) was enriched by fold change >10. SPT6 knockdown reduced the antitumor effect of MAGI2-AS3 in TU177 and AMC-HN-8 cells. Meanwhile, SPT6 overexpression inhibited the proliferation, metastasis, and invasion of TU177 and AMC-HN-8 cells. As revealed by the above findings, DNMT1-regulated MAGI2-AS3 promoter hypermethylation led to downregulated MAGI2-AS3 expression, such that the presence and progression of LSCC were inhibited in an SPT6 binding-dependent manner.

Abstract Hydrogel is a type of versatile platform with various biomedical applications after rational structure and functional design that leverages on material engineering to modulate its physicochemical properties (e.g., stiffness, pore size, viscoelasticity, microarchitecture, degradability, ligand presentation, stimulus-responsive properties, etc.) and influence cell signaling cascades and fate. In the past few decades, a plethora of pioneering studies have been implemented to explore the cell–hydrogel matrix interactions and figure out the underlying mechanisms, paving the way to the lab-to-clinic translation of hydrogel-based therapies. In this review, we first introduced the physicochemical properties of hydrogels and their fabrication approaches concisely. Subsequently, the comprehensive description and deep discussion were elucidated, wherein the influences of different hydrogels properties on cell behaviors and cellular signaling events were highlighted. These behaviors or events included integrin clustering, focal adhesion (FA) complex accumulation and activation, cytoskeleton rearrangement, protein cyto-nuclei shuttling and activation (e.g., Yes-associated protein (YAP), catenin, etc.), cellular compartment reorganization, gene expression, and further cell biology modulation (e.g., spreading, migration, proliferation, lineage commitment, etc.). Based on them, current in vitro and in vivo hydrogel applications that mainly covered diseases models, various cell delivery protocols for tissue regeneration and disease therapy, smart drug carrier, bioimaging, biosensor, and conductive wearable/implantable biodevices, etc. were further summarized and discussed. More significantly, the clinical translation potential and trials of hydrogels were presented, accompanied with which the remaining challenges and future perspectives in this field were emphasized. Collectively, the comprehensive and deep insights in this review will shed light on the design principles of new biomedical hydrogels to understand and modulate cellular processes, which are available for providing significant indications for future hydrogel design and serving for a broad range of biomedical applications.

Abstract Background Liver transplantation (LT) is required in many end-stage liver diseases. Donation after cardiac death (DCD) livers are often used, and treatment of acute rejection (ACR) requires the use of immunosuppressive drugs that are associated with complications. Bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (BMMSCs) are used in treatment following LT; however, they have limitations, including low colonization in the liver. An optimized BMMSC application method is required to suppress ACR. Methods BMMSCs were isolated and modified with the heme oxygenase 1 (HO-1) gene. HO-1/BMMSCs were perfused into donor liver in vitro using a normothermic machine perfusion (NMP) system, followed by LT into rats. The severity of ACR was evaluated based on liver histopathology. Gene chip technology was used to detect differential gene expression, and flow cytometry to analyze changes in natural killer (NK) T cells. Results NMP induced BMMSCs to colonize the donor liver during in vitro preservation. The survival of HO-1/BMMSCs in liver grafts was significantly longer than that of unmodified BMMSCs. When the donor liver contained HO-1/BMMSCs, the local immunosuppressive effect was improved and prolonged, ACR was controlled, and survival time was significantly prolonged. The application of HO-1/BMMSCs reduced the number of NKT cells in liver grafts, increased the expression of NKT cell co-inhibitory receptors, and reduced NKT cell expression of interferon-γ. Conclusions NK cell and CD8+ T cell activation was inhibited by application of HO-1/BMMSCs, which reduced ACR of transplanted liver. This approach could be developed to enhance the success rate of LT.

BackgroundWith the increasing trend of aging, the mental health problems of the elderly require urgent attention. Depression is a common psychological problem of the elderly, which affects their quality of life and physical health. Problem-solving therapy can effectively improve depression in the elderly, but there are few studies on problem-solving therapy for depression in the elderly in China. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of modified problem-solving therapy (MPST) on depression, coping and self-efficacy in elderly nursing home residents.MethodsThis study was a randomized controlled trial. A total of 60 older adults from two nursing homes were recruited to participate in this study and randomly assigned to the intervention group (MPST) or the control group (usual care). The intervention lasted 8 weeks, and information on depression, coping skills, and self-efficacy was collected before the intervention, immediately after the intervention, and 3 months after the intervention. Repeated measures ANOVA was used to compare changes at multiple time points between the two groups. The balance between oxidation and antioxidant is crucial for maintaining homeostasis. Once disrupted, it can lead to various pathological outcomes and diseases, such as depression. Oxidative stress can result in or aggravate a battery of pathological processes including mitochondrial dysfunction, neuroinflammation, autophagical disorder and ferroptosis, which have been found to be involved in the development of depression. Inhibition of oxidative stress and related pathological processes can help improve depression. In this regard, the nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2 (Nrf2) in the antioxidant defense system may play a pivotal role. Nrf2 activation can not only regulate the expression of a series of antioxidant genes that reduce oxidative stress and its damages, but also directly regulate the genes related to the above pathological processes to combat the corresponding alterations. Therefore, targeting Nrf2 has great potential for the treatment of depression. Activation of Nrf2 has antidepressant effect, but the specific mechanism remains to be elucidated. This article reviews the key role of Nrf2 in depression, focusing on the possible mechanisms of Nrf2 regulating oxidative stress and related pathological processes in depression treatment. Meanwhile, we summarize some natural and synthetic compounds targeting Nrf2 in depression therapy. All the above may provide new insights into targeting Nrf2 for the treatment of depression and provide a broad basis for clinical transformation.

Background Age-related hearing loss is an increasing sensorineural hearing loss. But the pathogenesis of ARHL has not been clarified. Herein, we studied the role and significance of PIN1 in regulating autophagy activity in senescence HEI-OC1cells and HCs. Methods and Results C57BL/6 mice and HEI-OC1 cells were contained in our research. Transfection of plasmids and juglone were used to upregulate or inhibit the PIN 1 expression. Immunofluorescence and Western blot were used to detect the expression of PIN1, LC3, p62, p21 and p16 protein levels in the hair cells of C57BL/6 mice cochleae and HEI-OC1 cells. Senescence-associated β-galactosidase (SA-β-gal) staining was used to investigate the senescent level.The results of this study showed that the level of autophagy increased in the senescent auditory hair cells. When inhibited the autophagy level with 3-MA, the senescent HEI-OC1 cells were alleviated. The autophagy activity in senescent HEI-OC1 cells also could be reduced by overexpressing PIN1 protein. On the contrary, inhibiting PIN1 could increase the autophagy level of senescent cells and cochlear hair cells. Conclusion PIN1 might regulate autophagy activity to induce the senescent of HEI-OC1cells and HCs, which will provide a theoretical support for the prevention and treatment of age-related hearing loss.

The public’s support for emergency infrastructure projects, which will affect the government’s credibility, social stability, and development, is very important. However, there are few systematic research findings on public support for emergency infrastructure projects. In order to explore the factors influencing the public’s support and the degree of influence of each factor on the public’s support, this paper employs K-Nearest Neighbors (KNN), a learning curve with m-fold cross-validation, grid search, and random forest to study the public’s support for emergency infrastructure projects and its influencing factors. In this paper, a prediction model of the public’s support for emergency infrastructure projects is developed based on KNN from data drawn from a questionnaire survey of 445 local residents concerning Wuhan Leishenshan Hospital, China. Two optimization algorithms, the learning curve with m-fold cross-validation and the grid search algorithm, are proposed to optimize the key parameters of the KNN predictive model. Additionally, quantitative analysis is conducted by using the random forest algorithm to assess the importance of various factors influencing public support. The results show that the prediction accuracy and model stability of the KNN prediction model based on the grid search algorithm are better than those using a learning curve with m-fold cross-validation. Furthermore, the random forest algorithm quantitative analysis shows that the most important factor influencing the public’s support is government attention. The conclusions drawn from this paper provide a theoretical reference and practical guidance for decision making and the sustainable development of emergency infrastructure projects in China.

Alzheimer's disease (AD), an age-dependent neurodegenerative disorder, is the most prevalent neurodegenerative disease worldwide. The primary pathological hallmarks of AD are the deposition of β-amyloid plaques and neurofibrillary tangles. Autophagy, a pathway of clearing damaged organelles, macromolecular aggregates, and long-lived proteins via lysosomal degradation, has emerged as critical for proteostasis in the central nervous system (CNS). Studies have demonstrated that defective autophagy is strongly implicated in AD pathogenesis. Transcription factor EB (TFEB), a master transcriptional regulator of autophagy, enhances the expression of related genes that control autophagosome formation, lysosome function, and autophagic flux. The study of TFEB has greatly increased over the last decade, and the dysfunction of TFEB has been reported to be strongly associated with the pathogenesis of many neurodegenerative disorders, including AD. Here, we delineate the basic understanding of TFEB dysregulation involved in AD pathogenesis, highlighting the existing work that has been conducted on TFEB-mediated autophagy in neurons and other nonneuronal cells in the CNS. Additionally, we summarize the small molecule compounds that target TFEB-regulated autophagy involved in AD therapy. Our review may yield new insights into therapeutic approaches by targeting TFEB and provide a broadly applicable basis for the clinical treatment of AD.

Objective: Glutamate mediated excitotoxicity, such as oxidative stress, neuroinflammation, synaptic loss and neuronal death, is ubiquitous in Alzheimer's disease (AD). Our previous study found that 15 Hz repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) could reduce cortical excitability. The purpose of this study was to explore the therapeutic effect of higher frequency rTMS on 3xTg-AD model mice and further explore the mechanisms of rTMS. Methods: First, WT and 3xTg-AD model mice received 25 Hz rTMS treatment for 21 days. The Morris water maze test was used to evaluate the cognitive function. The levels of Aβ and neuroinflammation were assessed by ELISA and immunofluorescence. Oxidative stress was quantified by biochemical assay kits. Brain glucose metabolism was assessed by 18F-FDG PET. Apoptosis was assessed by western blot and TUNEL staining. Synaptic plasticity and PI3K/Akt/GLT-1 pathway related protein expression were assessed by western blot. Next, to explore the activity of PI3K/Akt in the therapeutic effect of rTMS, 3xTg-AD model mice were given LY294002 intervention and rTMS treatment for 21 days, the experimental method was the same as before. Results: We found that 25 Hz rTMS could improve cognitive function of 3xTg-AD model mice, reduce hippocampal Aβ1-42 levels, ameliorate oxidative stress and improve glucose metabolism. rTMS alleviated neuroinflammatory response, enhanced synaptic plasticity and reduced neuronal loss and cell apoptosis, accompanied by activation of PI3K/Akt/GLT-1 pathway. After administration of PI3K/Akt inhibitor LY294002, 25 Hz rTMS could not improve the cognitive function and reduce neuron damage of 3xTg-AD model mice, nor could it upregulate the expression of GLT-1, indicating that its therapeutic and protective effects required the involvement of PI3K/Akt/GLT-1 pathway. Conclusion: rTMS exerts protective role for AD through regulating multiple pathological processes. Meanwhile, this study revealed the key role of PI3K/Akt/GLT-1 pathway in the treatment of AD by rTMS, which might be a new target.

In the classical world, physical events always happen in a fixed causal order. However, it was recently revealed that quantum mechanics allows events to occur with indefinite causal order (ICO). In this study, we use an optical quantum switch to experimentally investigate the application of ICO in thermodynamic tasks. Specifically, we simulate the working system interacting with two identical thermal reservoirs in an ICO, observing the quantum heat extraction even though they are in thermal equilibrium where heat extraction is inaccessible by traditional thermal contact. Using such a process, we simulate an ICO refrigeration cycle and investigate its properties. We also show that by passing through the ICO channel multiple times, one can extract more heat per cycle and thus obtain a higher refrigeration performance. Our results suggest that the causal nonseparability can be a powerful resource for quantum thermodynamic tasks.

Abstract Background The relationship between dental caries and periodontal disease is still controversial. The objective of this study was to explore the relationship between different types of caries and periodontal disease severity in middle-aged and elderly people in China. Methods The study population consisted of 4407 middle-aged and 4117 elderly subjects. Caries were divided into the following three types: type A, crown caries; type B, lesions involving both the crown and root, representing mixed-type caries; and type C, root caries. These three types together represent the overall caries situation, which we call type ABC. Caries were quantitated by decayed and filled teeth (DFT index). Periodontitis was evaluated by clinical attachment loss. Results Middle-aged people with periodontitis had a significant association with DFT type B (OR: 1.21, 95% CI 1.17–1.25) and type C (OR: 1.40, 95% CI 1.24–1.56). Elderly people with periodontitis had a significant association with DFT type C (OR: 1.28, 95% CI 1.21–1.35). Conclusions In China, caries types B/C were positively correlated with periodontitis in the middle-aged group, and only caries type C was positively correlated with periodontitis in the elderly group.

The present study aimed to explore whether heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1)-modified bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (BMMSCs) have a protective effect on liver transplantation with steatotic liver grafts in rats, and to determine the role of the intestinal microbiota in such protection. HO-1/BMMSCs were obtained by transduction of Hmox1 gene [encoding heme oxygenase (HO-1)]-encoding adenoviruses into primary rat BMMSCs. Steatotic livers were obtained by feeding rats a high-fat diet, and a model of liver transplantation with steatotic liver grafts was established. The recipients were treated with BMMSCs, HO-1/BMMSCs, or neither, via the portal vein. Two time points were used: postoperative day 1 (POD 1) and POD 7. The results showed that under the effect of HO-1/BMMSCs, the degree of steatosis in the liver grafts was significantly reduced, and the level of liver enzymes and the levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines in plasma were reduced. The effect of HO-1/BMMSCs was better than that of pure BMMSCs in the prolongation of the rats' postoperative time. In addition, HO-1/BMMSCs promoted the recovery of recipients' intestinal structure and function, especially on POD 7. The intestinal villi returned to normal, the expression of tight junction proteins was restored, and intestinal permeability was reduced on POD 7. The intestinal bacterial of the LT group showed significantly weakened energy metabolism and overgrowth. On POD 1, the abundance of Akkermansiaceae was higher. On POD 7, the abundance of Clostridiaceae increased, the level of lipopolysaccharide increased, the intestinal mucosal barrier function was destroyed, and the levels of several invasive bacteria increased. When treated with HO-1/BMMSCs, the energy metabolism of intestinal bacteria was enhanced, and on POD 1, levels bacteria that protect the intestinal mucosa, such as Desulfovibrionaceae, increased significantly. On POD 7, the changed intestinal microbiota improved lipid metabolism and increased the levels of butyrate-producing bacteria, such as Lachnospiraceae. In conclusion, HO-1/BMMSCs have protective effects on steatotic liver grafts and the intestinal barrier function of the recipients. By improving lipid metabolism and increasing the abundance of butyrate-producing bacteria, the changed intestinal microbiota has a protective effect and prolongs the recipients' survival time.

Abstract Background In China, more than 20 million patients with chronic hepatitis B need antiviral treatment. Side effects of antiviral treatment such as renal complications can be problematic, particularly in an aging population. Methods The data were retrospectively extracted from the hospital medical charts of five centers in eastern China from January 1 to December 31, 2018. Results A total of 8309 patients with CHB was enrolled in this study. The median age of the patients was 46 years. Live e-commerce is an emerging business model in one form of which online influencers sell goods through live-streaming platforms. In this paper, we develop a live e-commerce supply chain pricing model with online influencers as retailers, with which we investigate the effects of consumers’ impulsive consumption behavior, satisfaction. This paper analyzes the impact of consumers’ impulse purchases on both manufacturers and retailers, and separately, on supply chains. We also assess consumers’ purchase decisions when they watch online influencers promoting products via live-streaming. The results reveal that the impact of impulse spending on supply chain agents is non-monotonic. Rational pricing decisions and ensuring high-value products are the keys to profitability and impulse spending that lead to consumer satisfaction and can increase competition in the market. Therefore, supply chain decision makers should increase customers’ satisfaction by offering products and enhancement following impulse consumption, rather than simply encouraging further impulse consumption behavior, which can often result in buyer’s remorse and returned merchandize.

Nonlocal correlation plays an important role in device independent quantum information processing. The standard Bell nonlocality has been well studied with single local hidden variables, however the nonlocal correlations in general networks with several independent quantum sources and distant observers have been far less explored. Here, by using three independent entangled photon sources and recently constructed nonlinear Bell inequalities, we experimentally test the nonlocal correlations in the network scenario with different topologies. The violation of the inequalities can be obtained simply with separate measurements, which is much more favourable from the practical point of view. Our experiment results show a violation as 0.7779±0.0093 for the star network, and 0.7303±0.0024 for the chain network. Furthermore, we demonstrate that more measurement settings for each observer can bound more information against an eavesdropper.

Abstract Background The outbreak of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is now becoming an enormous threat to public health. The clinical spectrum of COVID-19 is extensive, of which critical cases are with rapid disease progression and high mortality. The aim of our study is to summarize the characteristics of different subtypes and explore risk factors of illness severity for early identification and prompt treatment. Methods In this retrospective study, we collected data of patients confirmed COVID-19 in Zhejiang Province from 17 January to 12 February 2020. According to the definition of clinical classification, we divided confirmed cases into four types, and summarize epidemiological and clinical characteristics, laboratory and radiograph findings, treatments, and outcomes, respectively. Moreover, we used univariate and multivariate ordinal logistic regression models to explore risk factors for the severity of illness in patients with COVID-19. Results A total of 788 patients were enrolled in our study, of whom 52 cases (6.6%) were mild type, 658 cases (83.5%) were common type, 61 cases (7.2%) were severe type, and 17 cases (2.2%) were critical type. Multivariate ordinal logistic regression demonstrated increasing odds of the severity of illness in patients with COVID-19 associated with male (odds ratio [OR] = 1.7, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.2–2.6 P = 0.008), fever (OR = 3.6, 95% CI: 2.1–6.3, P

Abstract Background Donation after circulatory death (DCD) liver grafts have a poor prognosis after transplantation. We investigated whether the outcome of DCD donor organs can be improved by heme oxygenase 1 (HO-1)-modified bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells (BMMSCs) combined with normothermic machine perfusion (NMP), and explored its underlying mechanisms. Methods BMMSCs were isolated, cultured, and transduced with the HO-1 gene. An NMP system was established. DCD rat livers were obtained, preserved by different methods, and the recipients were divided into 5 groups: sham operation, static cold storage (SCS), NMP, BMMSCs combined with NMP, and HO-1/BMMSCs combined with NMP (HBP) groups. Rats were sacrificed at 1, 7, and 14 days after surgery; their blood and liver tissue samples were collected; and liver enzyme and cytokine levels, liver histology, high-mobility group box 1 (HMGB1) levels in monocytes and liver tissues, and expression of Toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4) pathway-related molecules were evaluated. Results After liver transplantation, the SCS group showed significantly increased transaminase levels, liver tissue damage, and shorter survival time. The HBP group showed lower transaminase levels, intact liver morphology, prolonged survival time, and decreased serum and liver proinflammatory cytokine levels. In the NMP and SCS groups, HMGB1 expression in the serum, monocytes, and liver tissues and TLR4 pathway-related molecule expression were significantly decreased. Conclusions HO-1/BMMSCs combined with NMP exerted protective effects on DCD donor liver and significantly improved recipient prognosis. The effect of HO-1/BMMSCs was greater than that of BMMSCs and was mediated via HMGB1 expression and TLR4 pathway inhibition.

Abstract Background The financial burden of oral diseases is a growing concern as the medical expenses rise worldwide. The aim of this study was to investigate the dental expenditure, analyze its progressivity and horizontal inequality under the general health finance and insurance system, and identify the key social determinants of the inequality for Chinese adults. Methods A secondary analysis used the data of 13,464 adults from the 4th National Oral Health Epidemiological Survey (NOHES) in China was undertaken. The dental expenditure was collected and divided into out-of-pocket and health insurance payments. Horizontal inequality index and Kakwani index were used to analyze the horizontal inequality and progressivity, respectively. The decomposition model of the concentration index was set up to explore the associated socioeconomic determinants. Results The results showed that a mean dental expenditure per capita of Chinese adults was $20.55 (95% Confidence Interval-CI: 18.83,22.26). Among those who actually used dental service, the cost was $100.95 (95%CI: 93.22,108.68). Over 90% of dental spending was due to out-of-pocket expenses. For self-reported oral health, the horizontal inequality index was − 0.1391 and for the decayed tooth (DT), it was − 0.2252. For out-of-pocket payment, the Kakwani index was − 0.3154 and for health insurance payment it was − 0.1598. Income, residential location, educational attainment, oral hygiene practice, self-reported oral health, age difference were the main contributors to the inequality of dental expenditure. Conclusion Dental expenditure for Chinese adults was at a lower level due to underutilization. The ratio of payments of dental expenditure and utilization was disproportional, whether it was out-of-pocket or insurance payment. Individuals who were more in need of oral care showed less demand for service or not required service in time. For future policy making on oral health, it is worth the effort to further promote the awareness of the importance of oral health and utilization of dental service.

Purpose: To investigate the epidemiological and clinical characteristics of COVID-19 patients with abnormal imaging findings. Methods: Patients confirmed with SARS-CoV-2 infection in Zhejiang province from January 17 to February 8 who had undergone CT or X-ray were enrolled. Epidemiological and clinical data were analyzed among those with abnormal or normal imaging findings. Results: Excluding 72 patients with normal images, 230 of 573 patients showed abnormalities affecting more than two lung lobes. The median radiographic score was 2.0, and there was a negative correlation between that score and the oxygenation index (ρ = −0.657, P < 0.001). Patients with abnormal images were older (46.65 ± 13.82), with a higher rate of coexisting condition (28.8%), a lower rate of exposure history, and longer time between onset and confirmation (5 days) than non-pneumonia patients (all P < 0.05). A higher rate of fever, cough, expectoration and headache, a lower level of lymphocytes, albumin, and serum sodium levels and a higher total bilirubin, creatine kinase, lactate dehydrogenase, and C-reactive protein levels and a lower oxygenation index were observed in pneumonia patients (all P < 0.05). Muscle ache, shortness of breath, nausea and vomiting, lower lymphocytes levels, and higher serum creatinine and radiographic score at admission were predictive factors for the severe/critical subtype. Conclusion: Patients with abnormal images have more obvious clinical manifestations and laboratory changes. Combing clinical features and radiographic scores can effectively predict severe/critical types.

Abstract Background The prognosis of patients with advanced schistosomiasis is poor. Pre-existing prognosis studies did not differentiate the causes of the deaths. The objectives were to evaluate the 2-year overall survival (OS) and advanced schistosomiasis-specific survival (ASS) in patients with advanced schistosomiasis after discharge through competing risk analysis and to build predictive nomograms. Methods Data was extracted from a previously constructed database from Hubei province. Patients were enrolled from September 2014 to January 2015, with follow up to January 2017. OS and ASS were primary outcome measures. Nomograms for estimating 2-year OS and ASS rates after discharge were established based on univariate and multivariate Cox regression model and Fine and Gray’s model. Their predictive performances were evaluated using C-index and validated in both internal and external validation cohorts. Results The training cohort included 1487 patients with advanced schistosomiasis. Two-year mortality rate of the training cohort was 8.27% (123/1487). Competing events accounted for 26.83% (33/123). Older age, splemomegaly clinical classification, abnormal serum DBil, AST, ALP and positive HBsAg were significantly associated with 2-year OS. Older age, splemomegaly clinical classification, abnormal serum AST, ALP and positive HBsAg were significantly associated with 2-year ASS. The established nomograms were well calibrated, and had good discriminative ability, with a C-index of 0.813 (95% CI 0.803–0.823) for 2-year OS prediction and 0.834 (95% CI 0.824–0.844) for 2-year ASS prediction. Their predictive performances were well validated in both internal and external validation cohorts. Conclusion The effective predictors of 2-year OS and ASS were discovered through competing risk analysis. The nomograms could be used as convenient predictive tools in clinical practice to guide follow-up and aid accurate prognostic assessment.

Ubiquitination and SUMOylation, which are posttranslational modifications, play prominent roles in regulating both protein expression and function in cells, as well as various cellular signal transduction pathways. Metabolic reprogramming often occurs in various diseases, especially cancer, which has become a new entry point for understanding cancer mechanisms and developing treatment methods. Ubiquitination or SUMOylation of protein substrates determines the fate of modified proteins. Through accurate and timely degradation and stabilization of the substrate, ubiquitination and SUMOylation widely control various crucial pathways and different proteins involved in cancer metabolic reprogramming. An understanding of the regulatory mechanisms of ubiquitination and SUMOylation of cell proteins may help us elucidate the molecular mechanism underlying cancer development and provide an important theory for new treatments. In this review, we summarize the processes of ubiquitination and SUMOylation and discuss how ubiquitination and SUMOylation affect cancer metabolism by regulating the key enzymes in the metabolic pathway, including glucose, lipid and amino acid metabolism, to finally reshape cancer metabolism.

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is one of the most lethal malignancies with extremely poor prognosis. Therefore, revealing the critical molecules involved in HCC progression and prognosis is urgently needed. In this study, through combining public dataset and our cohort, we found a novel prognosis-related long non-coding RNA KB-68A7.1 in HCC. KB-68A7.1 was lowly expressed in HCC, whose low expression was associated with large tumour size, aggressive clinical characteristic, and poor survival. Gain- and loss-of-function assays demonstrated that KB-68A7.1 restricted HCC cellular proliferation, induced HCC cellular apoptosis, and suppressed HCC cellular migration and invasion in vitro. Xenograft assays demonstrated that KB-68A7.1 suppressed HCC tumour growth and metastasis in vivo. These functional assays suggested KB-68A7.1 as a tumour suppressor in HCC. Histone methyltransferase nuclear receptor binding SET domain-containing protein 1 (NSD1) was found to bind to KB-68A7.1. KB-68A7.1 was mainly distributed in the cytoplasm. The binding of KB-68A7.1 to NSD1 sequestrated NSD1 in the cytoplasm, leading to the reduction in nuclear NSD1 level. Through decreasing nuclear NSD1 level, KB-68A7.1 reduced di-methylation of histone H3 at lysine 36 (H3K36me2) and increased tri-methylation of histone H3 at lysine 27 (H3K27me3) at the promoter of WNT10B, a target of NSD1. Thus, KB-68A7.1 repressed WNT10B transcription. The expression of WNT10B was negatively correlated with that of KB-68A7.1 in HCC tissues. Through repressing WNT10B, KB-68A7.1 further repressed Wnt/β-catenin signalling. Functional rescue assays showed that overexpression of WNT10B reversed the tumour-suppressive roles of KB-68A7.1, whereas the oncogenic roles of KB-68A7.1 depletion were abolished by Wnt/β-catenin signalling inhibitor. Overall, this study identified KB-68A7.1 as a lowly expressed and prognosis-related lncRNA in HCC, which suppressed HCC progression through binding to NSD1 and repressing Wnt/β-catenin signalling.

The research on the high-value utilization of biomass has good application prospects and is conducive to sustainable development. In this paper, three different types of activators (potassium hydroxide, phosphoric acid, and polypropylene) were used to carbonize jujube branches at high temperatures of 600 °C and 800 °C, and then the PEG/jujube charcoal composite phase change materials (PCM) were prepared by vacuum impregnation of polyethylene glycol (PEG). The results showed that the carbon support activated by polypropylene (PP) had a richer pore size distribution than the other two activation methods, and the 800 °C carbonization carrier loaded PEG had a higher phase change enthalpy than the composite material at 600 °C. The mesoporous and macroporous structures were staggered with PP-activated jujube charcoal at 800 °C, with a specific surface area of 1082.2 m²/g, the melting enthalpy of the composite material reached 114.92 J/g, and the enthalpy of solidification reached 106.15 J/g after PEG loading. The diffraction peak of the composite phase change material was the superposition of PEG and carbon matrix, which proved that the loading process was physical adsorption. After 200 thermal cycles, the melting enthalpy and crystallization enthalpy were only reduced by 4.3% and 4.1%, respectively, and they remained stable and leak-free at the melting point of PEG for 2 h, demonstrating good thermal stability of the composite phase change materials. In summary, PP has obvious advantages over traditional activation, and the carbon-supported PEG phase change composite after PP activation is a biochar energy storage material with excellent performance.

Cardiovascular stents enable the rapid re-endothelialization of endothelial cells (ECs), and the constant suppression of smooth muscle cell (SMC) proliferation has been proved to effectively prevent thrombosis. However, the development and application of such stents are still insufficient due the delayed re-endothelialization progress, as well as the poor durability of the SMC inhibition. In this paper, we developed a mussel-inspired coating with the ability for the dual delivery of both growth factor (e.g., platelet-derived growth factor, PDGF) and therapeutic gas (e.g., nitric oxide, NO) for thrombosis prevention. We firstly synthesized the mussel-inspired co-polymer (DMHM) of dopamine methacrylamide (DMA) and hydroxyethyl methacrylate (HEMA) and then coated the DMHM on 316L SS stents combined with CuII. Afterwards, we immobilized the PDGF on the DMHM-coated stent and found that the PDGF could be released in the first 3 days to enhance the recruitment, proliferation, and migration of human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs) to promote re-endothelialization. The CuII could be “sealed” in the DMHM coating, with extended durability (2 months), with the capacity for catalyzed NO generation for up to 2 months to suppress the proliferation of SMCs. Such a stent surface modification strategy could enhance the development of the cardiovascular stents for thrombosis prevention.
