ZrO2 and catalysts were prepared by a co-precipitate method and coupled with a HZSM-5 zeolite catalyst through a mechanical mixing method; these were applied to the direct synthesis of aromatic hydrocarbons from syngas through an oxygen-containing intermediate route. The physical and chemical properties of the catalysts were characterized by XRD, H2-TPR, CO2-TPD, and SEM methods. The comparative catalytic effects of ZrO2 and MgZrOx catalysts were discussed under different reaction conditions. The reaction results showed that the addition of Mg to a ZrO2 catalyst reduced the selectivity of CO2 by inhibiting the water–gas conversion reaction, and increased the selectivity of aromatics and the proportion of BTX in aromatic products.

Tomato mottle mosaic virus (ToMMV) poses a threat to production and quality of tomato fruits. The Tm-22 gene confers resistance to some tobamoviruses by recognizing viral movement proteins. However, Tm-22-mediated resistance against ToMMV is not well known. Here, we found that ToMMV could infect wild-type but not Tm-22 transgenic Nicotiana benthamiana plants and could also infect tomato cultivar Moneymaker but not resistant cultivar Jili with homozygous Tm-22. Chimeric viral ToMMVToBRFV−MP with swapped ToMMV MP to MP of tomato brown rugose fruit virus could systemically infect Tm-22 transgenic N. benthamiana and tomato cultivars Jili plants. Further, transient expression of ToMMV MP in the leaves of Tm-22 transgenic N. benthamiana plants induced hypersensitive response-associated cell death, suggesting that the MP of ToMMV was the avirulent factor for the Tm-22 resistance gene. ToMMV could infect Tm-22-containing cultivar Jinpeng 1 but not Chaobei. Sequence analysis revealed that cultivars Chaobei and Jinpeng 1 were heterozygous, where Chaobei consists of Tm-22 and Tm-2 genes, while Jinpeng 1 consists of Tm-22 and tm-2 genes. Transient co-expression assays showed that both Tm-22 and Tm-2 but not tm-2 could recognize ToMMV MP and induce hypersensitivity response-associated cell death in N. benthamiana leaves, suggesting that homozygous tomato harboring Tm-22 and heterozygous tomato containing Tm-22 and Tm-2 may exhibit more durable resistance to ToMMV than heterozygous tomato carrying Tm-22 and tm-2. Further, Tm-22 transgenic N. benthamiana and tomato cultivar Jili plants with silenced Tm-22 gene were susceptible to ToMMV. Also, silencing type-I J-domain MIP1 gene compromised Tm-22-mediated resistance to ToMMV in Tm-22 transgenic N. benthamiana and tomato cultivar Jili. Moreover, we found that viral RNA could accumulate in the systemic leaves of Tm-22 transgenic N. benthamiana plants and tomato cultivar Jili at 35°C, but not at 20, 25, or 30°C. Altogether, our findings reveal that the Tm-22 confers resistance to ToMMV by recognizing MP, and the resistance is regulated by the allele combinations, accumulation levels of Tm-22, MIP1, and the temperature.

The high quility has become an important goal of wheat breeding. Several super-strong gluten wheat varieties, e.g. ‘Xinmai 26’ and ‘Xinmai 45’, have been bred to meet consumer market. However, the genetic composition, transmission frequency and genetic contribution of them and their progeny are not clear. To analyze the genetic composition of the high-quality strong gluten wheat varieties ‘Xinmai 26’ and ‘Xinmai 45’, the genetic contribution rates of male and female parents to the varieties were analyzed using 6056 SNP markers detected by a widely used high-throughput wheat array (15K chip). Additionally, the chromosome polymorphisms of five related wheat varieties were determined by fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) using four oligonucleotide probe sets. The results showed that the genetic contribution rate of ‘Jinan 17’ against ‘Xinmai 26’ was 55.97%, much higher than the 15.81% of ‘Xinmai 18’. ‘Jimai 20’ showed a genetic contribution rate of 57.53% against ‘Xinmai 45’, which was slightly higher than that of ‘Xinmai 26’ at 40.21%. The specific fragment differences from male and female parents were identified in both breeding varieties, and ‘Xinmai 26’ had more specific fragments that differed from male and female parents than ‘Xinmai 45’. The chromosomes of group A and group B of the five varieties were significantly polymorphic, but no chromosomes translocations or inversions were found. The promising results would be helpful to explore the genetic pattern of high-quality varieties, promote breeding efficiency, and utilize the superior traits of backbone parents for wheat quality improvement.

Tomato cultivars containing the Tm-22 resistance gene have been widely known to resist tobacco mosaic virus (TMV) and tomato mosaic virus. Tomato brown rugose fruit virus (ToBRFV), a new emerging tobamovirus, can infect tomato plants carrying the Tm-22 gene. However, the virulence determinant of ToBRFV that overcomes the resistance conferred by the Tm-22 gene remains unclear. In this study, we substituted the movement protein (MP) encoding sequences between ToBRFV and TMV infectious clones and conducted infectivity assays. The results showed that MP was the virulence determinant for ToBRFV to infect Tm-22 transgenic Nicotiana benthamiana plants and Tm-22 -carrying tomato plants. A TMV MP chimera with amino acid residues 60-186 of ToBRFV MP failed to induce hypersensitive cell death in the leaves of Tm-22 transgenic N. benthamiana plants. Chimeric TMV containing residues 60-186 of ToBRFV MP could, but chimeric ToBRFV containing 61-187 residues of TMV MP failed to infect Tm-22 transgenic N. benthamiana plants, indicating that 60-186 residues of MP were important for ToBRFV to overcome Tm-22 gene-mediated resistance. Further analysis showed that six amino acid residues, H67 , N125 , K129 , A134 , I147 , and I168 of ToBRFV MP, were critical in overcoming Tm-22 -mediated resistance in transgenic N. benthamiana plants and tomato plants. These results increase our understanding of the mechanism by which ToBRFV overcomes Tm-22 -mediated resistance.

BACKGROUND Jejunal diverticula are the rarest of all small bowel diverticula and usually have no classic clinical symptoms. Jejunal diverticular haemorrhage (JDH) is a rare complication and can be difficult to identify and manage, hence it always resulting in a diagnostic delay and unsatisfactory clinical outcomes. Although with the advances in endoscopic technology, no consensus have been reached on the diagnosis and management of JDH, the conventional surgical intervention still remains the mainstream for the management of JDH. We report an unique case of a 63-year-old male who presented with massive haemorrhage from jejunal diverticula, which was successfully managed by initial resuscitation and definitive surgery. CASE SUMMARY A 63-year-old male was admitted as an emergency with 6 h history of haematemesis and melena. The haematemesis appeared to be bright red, with volume exceeding 100 mL. The amount of melena was estimated to be 200 mL. Initially, the patient received fluid resuscitation and three unit blood transfusion. Then, in order to localize the bleeding sites, colonoscopy, upper gastrointestinal endoscopy, and mesenteric angiography were utilized but failed to identify the source of haemorrhage. Informed consent form was obtained for further treatment, and he was treated with an exploratory laparotomy and the bleeding site was successfully located during the procedure. He was diagnosed with JDH. The postoperative period was uneventful, and he was discharged on day 18 after surgery. No rebleeding occurred at the 1-year follow-up. CONCLUSION In patients with gastrointestinal bleeding, if various techniques fail to identify the cause of haemorrhage in small bowel and haemodynamic instability is sustained with continuous resuscitation, we recommend surgical intervention should be the ultimate treatment of choice.

Tomato brown rugose fruit virus (ToBRFV) is a novel tobamovirus firstly reported in 2015 and poses a severe threat to the tomato industry. So far, it has spread to 10 countries in America, Asia, and Europe. In 2019, ToBRFV was identified in Shandong Province (ToBRFV-SD), China. In this study, it was shown that ToBRFV-SD induced mild to severe mosaic and blistering on leaves, necrosis on sepals and pedicles, and deformation, yellow spots, and brown rugose necrotic lesions on fruits. ToBRFV-SD induced distinct symptoms on plants of tomato, Capsicum annumm, and Nicotiana benthamiana, and caused latent infection on plants of Solanum tuberosum, Solanum melongena, and N. tabacum cv. Zhongyan 102. All the 50 tomato cultivars tested were highly sensitive to ToBRFV-SD. The complete genomic sequence of ToBRFV-SD shared the highest nucleotide and amino acid identities with isolate IL from Israel. In the phylogenetic tree constructed with the complete genomic sequence, all the ToBRFV isolates were clustered together and formed a sister branch with tobacco mosaic virus (TMV). Furthermore, a quadruplex RT-PCR system was developed that could differentiate ToBRFV from other economically important viruses affecting tomatoes, such as TMV, tomato mosaic virus, and tomato spotted wilt virus. The findings of this study enhance our understanding of the biological and molecular characteristics of ToBRFV and provide an efficient and effective detection method for multiple infections, which is helpful in the management of ToBRFV.

Renal tubular cell (RTC) death and inflammation contribute to the progression of obstructive nephropathy, but its underlying mechanisms have not been fully elucidated. Here, we showed that Gasdermin E (GSDME) expression level and GSDME-N domain generation determined the RTC fate response to TNFα under the condition of oxygen-glucose-serum deprivation. Deletion of Caspase-3 (Casp3) or Gsdme alleviated renal tubule damage and inflammation and finally prevented the development of hydronephrosis and kidney fibrosis after ureteral obstruction. Using bone marrow transplantation and cell type-specific Casp3 knockout mice, we demonstrated that Casp3/GSDME-mediated pyroptosis in renal parenchymal cells, but not in hematopoietic cells, played predominant roles in this process. We further showed that HMGB1 released from pyroptotic RTCs amplified inflammatory responses, which critically contributed to renal fibrogenesis. Specific deletion of Hmgb1 in RTCs alleviated caspase11 and IL-1β activation in macrophages. Collectively, our results uncovered that TNFα/Casp3/GSDME-mediated pyroptosis is responsible for the initiation of ureteral obstruction-induced renal tubule injury, which subsequentially contributes to the late-stage progression of hydronephrosis, inflammation, and fibrosis. This novel mechanism will provide valuable therapeutic insights for the treatment of obstructive nephropathy.

Background: Sitosterolemia (STSL) is an extremely rare genetic disease. Xanthomas as the first symptom are frequently misinterpreted as familial hypercholesterolemia (FH) in children. Inappropriate treatment may deteriorate the condition of STSL. Objectives: To present the clinical and laboratory characteristics of xanthomatous children diagnosed with sitosterolemia in comparison with childhood FH with xanthomas. Methods: We summarized and compared the clinical characteristics of STSL and FH patients with xanthomas as the first manifestations and investigated the different indicators between the STSL and FH groups, as well as their diagnostic values for STSL. Results: Two tertiary pediatric endocrinology departments contributed ten STSL cases. Five of the STSL patients (50%) experienced mild anemia, whereas two (20%) had vascular complications. The xanthomas of the STSL group displayed morphologies comparable to those of the FH group. There were ten cases of homozygous FH (HoFH) with xanthomas as the predominant symptom of the control group who had no anemia. The serum cholesterol (Chol) levels of the STSL and FH groups were 12.57 (9.55 ~ 14.62) mmol/L and 17.45 (16.04 ~ 21.47) mmol/L, respectively (p value 0.002). The serum low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-c) levels of the STSL and FH groups were 9.26 ± 2.71 mmol/L and 14.58 ± 4.08 mmol/L, respectively (p value 0.003). Meanwhile, the mean platelet volume (MPV) levels of the STSL and FH groups were 11.00 (9.79 ~ 12.53) fl. and 8.95 (8.88 ~ 12.28) fl., respectively (p value 0.009). The anemia proportions of the STSL and FH groups were 50% and 0%, respectively (p value 0.033). The AUC values of Chol, LDL-c, MPV, hemoglobin (Hb) for the diagnosis of STSL were 0.910, 0.886, 0.869, 0.879, respectively. Chol ≤ 15.41 mmol/L, LDL-c ≤ 13.22 mmol/L, MPV ≥ 9.05 fl., or Hb≤120 g/L were the best thresholds for diagnosing STSL with childhood xanthomas. Conclusion The xanthoma morphology of STSL patients resembles that of FH patients. Xanthomas as the initial symptom of a child with Chol ≤ 15.41 mmol/L, LDL-c≤13.22 mmol/L, MPV ≥ 9.05 fl., or Hb≤120 g/L, he was most likely to have STSL.

Background. Although traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) has good efficacy in the treatment of mild cognitive impairment (MCI), especially memory improvement and safety, its substance basis and intervention mechanism are particularly complex and unknown. Therefore, based on network pharmacology and data mining, this study aims to explore the rules, active ingredients and mechanism of TCM in the treatment of MCI. Methods. By searching the GeneCard, OMIM, DisGeNET and DrugBank databases, we obtained the critical targets associated with MCI. We matched the components and herbs corresponding to the important targets in the TCMSP platform. Using Cytoscape 3.7.2 software, we constructed a target-component-herb network and conducted a network topology analysis to obtain the core components and herbs. Molecular docking was used to preliminarily analyze and predict the binding activities and main binding combinations of the core targets and components. Based on the analysis of the properties, flavor and meridian distribution of herbs, the rules of herbal therapy for MCI were summarized. Results. Twenty-eight critical targets were obtained after the screening. Using the TCMSP platform, 492 components were obtained. After standardization, we obtained 387 herbs. Based on the target-composition-herb network analysis, the core targets were ADRB2, ADRA1B, DPP4, ACHE and ADRA1D. According to the screening, the core ingredients were beta-sitosterol, quercetin, kaempferol, stigmasterol and luteolin. The core herbs were matched to Danshen, Yanhusuo, Gancao, Gouteng and Jiangxiang. It was found that the herbs were mainly warm in nature, pungent in taste and liver and lung in meridian. The molecular docking results showed that most core components exhibited strong binding activity to the target combination regardless of the in or out of network combination. Conclusion. The results of this study indicate that herbs have great potential in the treatment of MCI. This study provides a reference and basis for clinical application, experimental research and new drug development of herbal therapy for MCI.

To study the dynamic response of a pressurized thin-walled circular tube structure subjected to a near-field underwater explosion, deformation and damage tests of a pressurized cylindrical tube shell with different internal pressures and wall thicknesses with the effects of an underwater explosion from 2 g of explosives at different stand-off distances were carried out in a water tank. LS-DYNA finite element software was used to carry out relevant numerical simulations to explore the anti-explosion mechanism of a pressurized cylindrical shell structure affected by factors including the initial internal pressure, the thickness of the cylindrical shell, and the stand-off distance. The simulation inputs are high-speed photography images and the damage results of the cylindrical shell. The simulation results highlight the bubble pulsation, action process deformation, and energy change of the cylindrical shell. The results indicate that an increase in the initial pressure of the cylindrical shell can effectively improve its anti-explosion ability, while the different stand-off distances of r = 12 cm and r = 9 cm correspond to the same initial internal pressure. Increasing the initial internal pressure also causes the deflection difference of the cylindrical shell to decrease. The modeling results also indicate that an increase in the wall thickness may weaken the anti-explosion ability of the cylindrical shell, which has an initial internal pressure of Pr = 0.7 MPa. After an underwater explosion, the maximum displacement difference of a cylindrical shell with thicknesses of h = 1 mm and h = 1.5 mm is less than the maximum rebound distance difference. With this decrease in the distance, the proportion of the high-pressure cylindrical shell subjected to a shock wave increases while the proportion of bubble pulsation decreases. Specifically, the maximum proportions of bubble pulsation are 30% and 92% at the stand-off distances of 3 and 12 cm, respectively.

To evaluate whether serum follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) level during the early controlled ovarian stimulation can be used as a predictor of the ovarian response in the in vitro fertilization/intracytoplasmic sperm injection (IVF/ICSI) cycles.The participants of this retrospective study were chosen from Reproductive Medicine Center, Weifang People's Hospital between January 2015 and December 2020.The participants of this study met the age of 20~43 years old, anti-Müllerian hormone (AMH) ≥ 1.2 ng/mL, antral follicle count (AFC) ≥ 5, and the data was complete and no cancellation cycle. Each participant was given GnRH agonist protocol and given a fixed dose of recombinant FSH in the first four days during the controlled ovarian stimulation (COS). According to the number of oocytes retrieved, the participants were divided into two different ovarian response groups. Serum FSH level after the fourth recombinant follicle stimulating hormone (rFSH) injection were compared during the different ovarian responders.The number of participants who met both the inclusion criteria and exclusion criteria was 235. Serum sFSH levels (mean: 11.76 ± 3.10 IU/L) in the inappropriate responders was significantly higher than serum sFSH levels (mean: 10.79 ± 2.52 IU/L) in the superior responders(p = 0.029). There was a weak correlation between serum sFSH levels and the number of oocytes retrieved (r = -0.134, p = 0.041). Serum sFSH levels had significant clinical valuable (p = 0.0346) in predicting the number of oocytes retrieved.Serum sFSH levels may be a potential marker to predict the ovarian response during the early COS in the IVF/ICSI cycles, which can guide the adjustment of the exogenous rFSH dose.

In the search for treatment schemes of COVID-19, we start by examining the general weakness of coronaviruses and then identify approved drugs attacking that weakness. The approach, if successful, should identify drugs with a specific mechanism that is at least as effective as the best drugs proposed and are ready for clinical trials. All coronaviruses translate their non-structural proteins (∼16) in concatenation, resulting in a very large super-protein. Homo-harringtonine (HHT), which has been approved for the treatment of leukemia, blocks protein elongation very effectively. Hence, HHT can repress the replication of many coronaviruses at the nano-molar concentration. In two mouse models, HHT clears SARS-CoV-2 in 3 days, especially by nasal dripping of 40 ug per day. We also use dogs to confirm the safety of HHT delivered by nebulization. The nebulization scheme could be ready for large-scale applications at the onset of the next epidemics. For the current COVID-19, a clinical trial has been approved by the Ditan hospital of Beijing but could not be implemented for want of patients. The protocol is available to qualified medical facilities.

Mixed liquor circulates ceaselessly in the closed-loop corridor in an oxidation ditch (OD), which is significantly different from other wastewater treatment processes. The internal recirculation ratio (IRR), i.e., the ratio between circulation flow rate (QCC) and influent flow rate (QIn), and the circulatory period (T), i.e. the time consumed for the mixed liquor to complete one lap in the circular corridor, was used to quantify the internal recirculation characteristics of the OD system. In order to elucidate the characteristics and applicability of IRR and T, this study obtained the numerical relationship between IRR and T by formula derivation. It also discusses the factors influencing IRR and analyses the applications of IRR and T. The results showed that IRR = QCC/QIn = HRT/T = HRT ž IRF (HRT = hydraulic retention time of the mixed liquor in the circular corridor; IRF = internal recirculation frequency). Moreover, three kinds of parameters had an effect on IRR: QIn; reactor dimensions, i.e., length (Lmid), width (B), and height (H) of the circular corridor; and horizontal velocity of the mixed liquor in the circular corridor (v). QIn changed IRR by altering HRT. However, B, H, Lmid, and v changed IRR by altering IRF and T. Furthermore, the same IRR corresponded to many different HRT and IRF. Therefore, when QIn and QCC varied in the OD system, using HRT and IRF to evaluate the variation of QIn and QCC, respectively, was better than using IRR to evaluate their synthetical variation. IRF and T were useful for directly and precisely characterizing the circulation speed and circulation flow rate in the circular corridor, while IRR was more useful for evaluating the dilution effect of reflux on influent.

Objective Few studies have addressed informed consent in Chinese psychiatric practice. We wished to explore psychiatrists’ attitudes toward informed consent in Shanghai after promulgation of the first national law for mental health care in China: the National Mental Health Law. Method A total of 398 psychiatrists were recruited from seven psychiatric hospitals in Shanghai. Their anthropometric data were collected. A confidential, self-report questionnaire addressing attitudes toward the informed consent process was completed by all participants. Results Most respondents would like to inform patients/guardians of the diagnosis (95.2%), treatment plan (93.5%), treatment goals and potential adverse effects of prescribed medications (94.7%), and alternative treatment plans (71.9%). In addition, 58.4% of psychiatrists thought that the informed consent process for physical restraint was difficult to follow. According to logistic regression, psychiatrists not trained to use the National Mental Health Law were more likely to have a negative attitude toward the informed consent process compared with those trained (adjusted odds ratio = 0.21; 95% confidence interval: 0.07–0.59; p = 0.003). Conclusions Psychiatrists trained to use the National Mental Health Law had more positive attitudes toward the informed consent process. Lack of such training could affect the attitudes of psychiatrists toward the informed consent process in China.

Involuntary admission (IA) is limited to particular situations in mental health laws to protect patients from unnecessary coercion. China’s first national mental health law has been in effect since 2013; however, the status of IA has not been sufficiently explored. To explore the changing patterns of IA since the clinical application of the IA criteria specified in the new law, an investigation of IA status was undertaken in 14 periods (each period lasting for one month from 05/2013 to 05/2017) in the tertiary specialized psychiatric hospital in Shanghai. The socio-demographic and clinical characteristics of 3733 patients were collected. The differences among IA rates in different periods were compared, and the characteristics of patients who were and were not involuntarily admitted were analysed. Multiple logistic regression analysis was used to clarify the independent variables of IA. The IA rate dramatically decreased after the implementation of the new law, while the overall trend gradually increased. The implementation of the IA risk criteria is effective, but IA is still common in China. The medical factors influencing IA following the implementation of the new law are similar to those in previous studies at home and abroad. Non-medical factors might be the main causes of the high IA rates in Chinese psychiatric institutions.

Objective To investigate the effects of simulated microgravity on the structure, expression of surface molecules of immune cells and the expression of cytokines in the spleen of rhesus monkey. Methods Fifteen rhesus monkeys were employed as the research objects, and randomly assigned into three groups (5 each): normal control (NC) group, simulated microgravity (SM) group and microgravity recovery (MR) group. A posture with head down for –10°was set for monkeys to simulate microgravity. All the rhesus monkeys were sacrificed under anesthesia after experiments completion. Spleen tissues were harvested and HE and immunohistochemically stained to observe the general structure of the spleen tissues in each group and detect the expressions of surface molecules (CD3, CD4, CD8, CD20 and CD68) in immune cells, and the expressions of related cytokines (IL-1, IL-5, IL6, IL-17, IL-18, IL-22 and IL-23) on the splenic immune cells. Results Compared with the normal structure of spleen tissues in NC group, the dividing lines between red and white pulp were not clear, the white pulp and the periarteriolar lymphoid sheath were decreased, and the lymphocytes arranged disorder in SM group. Nephrolithiasis is one of the world’s major public health burdens with a high incidence and a risk of persistent renal dysfunction. Fu-Fang-Jin-Qian-Chao granules (FFJQC), a traditional Chinese herb formula, is commonly used in treatment of nephrolithiasis. However, the therapeutic mechanism of FFJQC on kidney stone has still been a mystery. The objective of the present study is to explore the therapeutic mechanism of FFJQC on kidney injury and identify unique metabolomics patterns using a mouse model of kidney stone induced by a calcium oxalate (CaOx) deposition. Von Kossa staining and immuno-histopathological staining of osteopontin (OPN), cluster of differentiation 44 (CD44) and calbindin-D28k were conducted on renal sections. Biochemical analysis was performed on serum, urine, and kidney tissues. A metabolomics approach based on ultra-HPLC coupled with quadrupole-TOF-MS (UHPLC-Q-TOF/MS) was used for serum metabolic profiling. The immunohistopathological and biochemical analysis showed the therapeutic benefits of FFJQC. The expression levels of OPN and CD44 were decreased while calbindin-D28k increased after the CaOx injured mice were treated with FFJQC. In addition, total of 81 serum metabolites were identified to be associated with protective effects of FFJQC on CaOx crystal injured mice. Most of these metabolites were involved in purine, amino acid, membrane lipid and energy metabolism. Potential metabolite biomarkers were found for CaOx crystal-induced renal damage. Potential metabolite biomarkers of CaOx crystal-induced renal damage were found. FFJQC shows therapeutic benefits on CaOx crystal injured mice via regulation of multiple metabolic pathways including amino acids, purine, pyrimidine, glycerolipid, arachidonic acid (AA), sphingolipid, glycerophospholipid, and fatty acid.

As the most predominant tumour‐infiltrating immune cells, tumour‐associated macrophages (TAMs) are significant for fostering tumour growth, progression and metastasis. CD68‐positive TAMs display dissimilarly polarized programmes comprising CD11c‐positive pro‐inflammatory macrophages (M1) and CD206‐positive immunosuppressive macrophages (M2). The aim of this study is to determine the prognostic significance of diametrically polarized TAMs in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and their application to risk stratification of patients according to their specific prognostic values. This study included 80 consecutive patients with HCC, and we evaluated diametrically polarized functional status of macrophages by immunohistochemical staining of CD68, CD11c and CD206. Prognostic values and clinicopathologic features were assessed in these patients. High versus low CD11c‐positive TAM density (P = 0.005) and low versus high CD206‐positive TAM density (P = 0.002) were associated with better overall survival, whereas CD68‐positive TAM density had no prognostic significance (low versus high, P = 0.065). Furthermore, the presence of these positive staining macrophages did not show any prognostic significance for recurrence‐free survival (all P > 0.05). Multivariate Cox regression analysis identified CD11c‐positive and CD206‐positive TAMs as an independent prognostic factor (P < 0.001, P = 0.031, respectively). Intratumoural infiltration of diametrically polarized TAMs, a novel identified independent prognostic factor for survival in patients with HCC, could be combined with the TNM stage and the Barcelona Clinic Liver Cancer stage to improve a risk stratification system.

Patients’ knowledge of the illness, as well as the knowledge of the patients’ families and psychiatrists, was determined. Logistic regression was used to determine the factors associated with patients’ knowledge of schizophrenia.Results: Out of 109 enrolled schizophrenic inpatients (mean age 42.46±1.29 years), 60.6% were aware of their diagnosis and 67.0% knew details of their treatment plan. MWCNTs decorated with Fe-NPs have been obtained on diamond film on cemented carbide substrate (MWCNTs/Fe-NPs/diamond/cemented carbide) by the pyrolysis of FePC at 850 °C. The microstructure and elemental compositions of the prepared samples are studied with SEM, TEM and EDS. MWCNTs/Fe-NPs/diamond/cemented carbide is also analyzed by Raman spectroscopy. The results show that all MWCNTs randomly lay down and are curvy on the diamond film with short lengths. High density of structural defects in carbon nanotubes are formed in the pyrolysis process at a relative low temperature. The Fe-NPs are encapsulated with graphitic layers and anchored on the MWCNT surface. The growth of these MWCNT/Fe-NPs composites is well explained using the concepts of the vapor–liquid–solid (VLS) model.

Two new complexes with 5-methyl-1-(pyridine-3-yl)-1H-1,2,3-triazole-4-carboxylic acid (Hmptc) ligand: [Cd(mptc)2(H2O)4] (1) and [Cu(mptc)4·2H2O]n (2) were prepared and their crystal structures were determined by single crystal X-ray diffraction analyses. In complex 1, the Cd(II) ions coordinates with the pyridyl nitogen atom from the Hmptc ligand, forming a mononuclear Cd(II) compound. Complex 2 exhibits a novel twodimensional (2D) polymer in which four Hmptc ligands stabilize the Cu(II) atom. And the coordination involves one nitrogen atom of the triazole, one oxygen atom of the carboxylic acid and the pyridyl nitrogen atom. In addition, FT-IR and solid-state fluorescent emission spectroscopy of two compounds have been determined.

Tamoxifen resistance remains to be a huge obstacle in the treatment of hormone-dependent breast cancer, and this therefore highlights the dire need to explore the underlying mechanisms. The epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) is a molecular process through which an epithelial cell transfers into a mesenchymal phenotype. Roles of EMT in embryo development, cancer invasion and metastasis have been extensively reported. Herein, we established tamoxifen-resistant MCF-7/TR breast cancer cells and showed that MCF-7/TR cells underwent EMT driven by enhanced endogenous TGF-β/Smad signaling. Ectopic supplement of TGF-β promoted in MCF-7 cells a mesenchymal and resistant phenotype. In parallel, we demonstrated that resveratrol was capable of synergizing with tamoxifen and triggering apoptosis in MCF-7/TR cells. Further Western blot analysis indicated that the chemosensitizing effects of resveratrol were conferred with its modulation on endogenous TGF-β production and Smad phosphorylation. In particular, 50 μM resveratrol had minor effects on MCF-7/TR cell proliferation, but could significantly attenuate endogenous TGF-β production and the Smad pathway, ultimately leading to reversion of EMT. Collectively, our study highlighted distinct roles of EMT in tamoxifen resistance and resveratrol as a potential agent to overcome acquired tamoxifen resistance. The molecular mechanism of resveratrol chemosensitizing effects is, at least in part, TGF-β/Smad-dependent.

This paper considers the uniform parallel machine scheduling problem which is to minimize the maximum lateness. This problem is equivalent to the uniform parallel machine scheduling problem, which is to minimize the maximal completion time of n jobs whose release times are zero, processing times depend on the speed of the machine to which they are assigned, and their delivery times are different. This problem is NP-hard, even if the machines' speeds are identical and all the delivery times equal to zero. We propose a simulated annealing algorithm, named LPDT-SA, to obtain solutions with high quality for large-sized problems. A heuristic algorithm LPDT is built to generate initial solutions. An effective method for solution representation is designed, which is efficient to realize the swap and insertion neighborhood, and simultaneously avoid some obvious inferior solutions, therefore the efficiency of the proposed simulated annealing algorithm is improved. A large set of instances are generated randomly to test the solution quality of LPDT-SA and assess its runtime. The results and analysis of experiments are reported and discussed.

Viewed from a spatial perspective and based on information from 1467 surveys samples conducted from 2015 to 2016, a case study of mobility and habitation adaption of migrant Muslims in Lanzhou city of China has been carried out using ArcGIS. The results show that: 1) the sources of migrant Muslims in Lanzhou are dominated by two ethnic regions, Linxia Autonomous Hui Prefecture approximately 160 km from Lanzhou, and Tianshui Zhangjiachuan Autonomous County 380 km from Lanzhou. Together the regions account for 56.5% of the sample respondents. To a great extent, the ethnic homogeneity related Muslims between the origin and Lanzhou city helps push migration; 2) the 40 sending regions from which migrant Muslims originate display a “core-margin” and “string of bead” spatial structure, and most sending regions are scattered within 20 km along the principal corresponding artery leading into & out of Lanzhou. Traffic improvement can lead to some changes to the double “core-margin” structure from basic “core-margin” to spindly “core-margin” along the corresponding artery; (3) the traditional pattern of “dwell and work around mosque” of migrant Muslims in Lanzhou is weakening. On the one hand, 46.2% of migrant Muslims dwell away and 50.1% of them work away from mosque; on the other hand from July 2015 to July 2016 123 migrants removed from their original dwelling places and 197 migrants from their original places of working around mosque to be scattered in Lanzhou city. The reason for decentralization includes the increasing spatial spread of Muslim-culture-focused catering, the weakening of traditional ethnic consciousness and personal independence.

Epithelial Na(+) channels (ENaCs) are ion channels that play important roles in physiology as well as pathophysiology. Inhibiting ENaCs using amiloride and its derivatives has been suggested in treatment of cardiovascular disease and hypertension. By immunoblotting, we demonstrated the presence of ENaC-alpha protein in the flagellar midpiece of both rat and human sperm. Immunohistochemistry analyses in rat testis localized ENaC-alpha expressed in the Leydig cell, Sertoli cell, Ap spermatogonium, spermatocyte, spermatid and residual body. Importantly, using computer-assisted sperm motility analysis, we first observed that EIPA [5-(N-ethyl-N-isopropyl)-amiloride hydrochloride] inhibition of ENaCs, possibly including ENaC-alpha and ENaC-delta, significantly improved the sperm motility in healthy donors by 14.23% (mean +/- SEM, 68.75 +/- 9.76% vs. 78.53 +/- 6.20%, p < 0.001) and in asthenospermia patients by 115.89% from 9.50 +/- 6.11% to 20.51 +/- 12.13% (mean +/- SEM, p < 0.001). The improved sperm motility by EIPA has important clinical implications in the treatment of asthenospermia and certainly warrants further investigation.

Although gastric cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death worldwide, specific and sensitive biomarkers that can be used for its diagnosis are still unavailable. Attempting to improve on current approaches to the serological diagnosis of gastric cancer, we subjected serum samples from 245 individuals (including 127 gastric cancer patients, 100 age- and sex-matched healthy individuals, nine benign gastric lesion patients and nine colorectal cancer patients) for analysis by surface-enhanced laser desorption/ionization (SELDI) mass spectrometry. Peaks were detected with Ciphergen SELDI software version 3.1.1 and analyzed with Biomarker Patterns' software 5.0. We developed a classifier for separating the gastric cancer groups from the healthy groups. Three protein masses with 1468, 3935 and 7560 m/z were selected as a potential 'fingerprint' for the detection of gastric cancer. It was able to distinguish the gastric cancer patients from the health volunteers with a sensitivity of 95.6% and a specificity of 92.0% in the training set. In the blinding set, it was capable of differentiating the gastric cancer samples from the others with a specificity of 88.0%, a sensitivity of 85.3%, and an accuracy of 86.4%. These values were all higher than those achieved in a parallel analysis by measuring serum carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) and carbohydrate antigen (CA)19-9 together. Therefore, the decision tree analysis of serum proteomic patterns has the potential to be used in gastric cancer diagnosis.
