We use Tannakian methods to show that patching for coherent sheaves implies patching for objects in any Noetherian algebraic stack with affine stabilizers. Among other things, this gives a straightforward way to prove patching for torsors under linear algebraic groups, as well as patching for sheaves and torsors on proper algebraic spaces., Comment: 15 pages, comments welcome at any time

We discuss patching techniques and local-global principles for gerbes over arithmetic curves. Our patching setup is that introduced by Harbater, Hartmann and Krashen. Our results for gerbes can be viewed as a 2-categorical analogue on their results for torsors. Along the way, we also discuss bitorsor patching and local-global principles for bitorsors. As an application of these results, we obtain a Mayer-Vietoris sequence with respect to patches for non-abelian hypercohomology sets with values in the crossed module G->Aut(G) for G a linear algebraic group. Using local-global principles for gerbes, we also prove local-global principles for points on homogeneous spaces under linear algebraic groups H that are special (e.g. SL_n and Sp_2n) for certain kind of stabilizers.

Let K be a complete discretely valued field of characteristic 0 with residue field k of characteristic p. Let n=[k:k^p] be the p-rank of k. It was proved by Parimala and Suresh that the Brauer p-dimension of K lies between n/2 and 2n. For n< 4, we improve the upper bound to n+1 and provide examples to show that our bound is sharp. For n < 3, we also improve the lower bound to n. For general $n$, we construct a family of fields K_n with residue fields of p-rank n, such that K_n admits a central simple algebra D_n of index p^{n+1}. Our sharp lower bounds for n<3 and upper bounds for n< 4 in combination with the nature of these examples motivate us to conjecture that the Brauer p-dimension of such fields always lies between n and n+1., Comment: 24 pages
