On 11 and 12 April, 2011, unexpected strong local earthquakes stroke petrochemical plants in Fukushima Prefecture. That local earthquake is caused by the old active fault near the plant activated by the Great East Japan Earthquake. The plants were attacked by the Great East Japan Earthquake, and all facilities of the plant had been stopped since 11 March, 2011. In spite of having received twice earthquakes (especially the bigger second local earthquake), damages of main facilities of the plant were little. The investigation team constituted by specialists of material safety, plant engineering and engineers of that petrochemical company, searched the damage of the facilities and emergency response, and recovery efforts. We summarized the lessons learned from the large earthquake of the chemical plant, related with the emergency correspondence and its organization, support for surrounding, recovery and reconstruction program, etc.

Background: The Scoliosis Research Society-30 (SRS-30) is a questionnaire that was originally developed from the SRS-22r questionnaire and is used to evaluate adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS). It comprises two sections, with Section 1 containing 22 items related to the SRS-22r questionnaire and 1 item regarding self-image and Section 2 containing 7 items specifically related to postoperative status. The SRS-30 has been also found useful in evaluating spinal disorders or deformity in adults. However, the Japanese version of the SRS-30 (Japanese SRS-30) has been validated for adolescent idiopathic scoliosis, but not for adult spinal deformity (ASD). This study aimed to assess the internal consistency and external validity of the Japanese SRS-30 for ASD., Methods: Of the 30 questions on the SRS-30, 8 questions added from the SRS-22r were translated and back-translated to create the Japanese SRS-30. The Japanese SRS-30 was used to survey patients with ASD who underwent corrective fusion surgery within 1 postoperative year. The internal consistency of the responses was evaluated using Cronbach α coefficient. Additionally, we performed Spearman correlation analysis of the Oswestry Disability Index (ODI) and SRS-22r with the Japanese SRS-30., Results: We included 120 patients (20 males and 100 females; mean age at surgery, 53.3 years). The mean preoperative Cobb angle, sagittal vertical axis, and pelvic incidence minus lumbar lordosis were 36.9°, 81.8 mm, and 24.0°, respectively. The Cronbach α coefficient for the overall SRS-30 was 0.941, indicating high internal consistency. Moreover, the coefficients for each domain were as follows: function/activity, 0.864; pain, 0.783; self-image/appearance, 0.858; mental health, 0.916; and satisfaction, 0.763. The total SRS-30 score was significantly correlated with the total SRS-22r score (r = 0.966, P < 0.001) and ODI (r = -0.752, P < 0.001). The SRS-30 domains showed strong correlations with the corresponding SRS-22r domains, with the r values ranging from 0.878 to 1.000 (all P < 0.001 except mental health)., Conclusions: The Japanese SRS-30 demonstrated good internal and external validity. Background: Apathetic and depressive symptoms are frequently observed among older adults, and are risk factors for functional decline and dementia progression. However, how these symptoms influence functional capacity remains unclear. This study investigated the relationship between apathetic and depressive symptoms and functional capacity, considering the interaction between apathetic and depressive symptoms., Methods: A cross-sectional questionnaire survey targeting community dwelling middle-aged or older adults was conducted. We sent a questionnaire to 984 individuals and received 320 responses. Data with missing values and participants aged under 50 were excluded, resulting in 212 participants (88 men and 124 women, mean age = 73.4 ± 9.3 years). Apathetic symptoms were evaluated using the Dimensional Apathy Scale (J-DAS), which comprises executive, emotional, and cognitive and behavioral initiation aspects of apathy. Depressive symptoms were evaluated using the Geriatric Depression Scale (GDS). Functional capacity was assessed using the Japan Science and Technology Agency Index of Competence, which comprises technology usage, information practice, life management, and social engagement., Results: Mean score of each J-DAS factor and GDS was 5.3 ± 3.4 (executive), 12.0 ± 3.0 (emotional), 11.8 ± 5.1 (initiation), and 4.5 ± 3.3, respectively. The emotional and initiation aspects of J-DAS were significantly associated with information practice (β = -0.15, p < .05 for emotional; β = -0.27, p < .001 for initiation) and life management (β = -0.20, p < .01 for emotional; β = -0.22, p < .01 for initiation) in functional capacity. GDS was associated only with social engagement (β = -0.31, p < .001). Although the interaction between the initiation factor of J-DAS and GDS was significantly associated with life management (β = -0.16, p < .05), the R 2 change was insignificant. The emotional factor of J-DAS was associated with technology usage (β = -0.13, p < .05), although less strongly than age. The executive factor of J-DAS had insignificant associations with all aspects of functional capacity., Conclusions: Apathetic and depressive symptoms are independently, rather than interactively, associated with different aspects of functional capacity. Background: Venous thromboembolism (VTE) is a well-known complication after spine surgery. As many cases of cervical spine disease result in severe gait disturbance due to myelopathy, it may harbor a higher risk of VTE than other spinal disorders. However, few studies have focused primarily on cervical spine surgery to date. This investigation sought to determine the prevalence of VTE after cervical spine surgery and identify patient-based risk factors., Methods: The medical data of 341 consecutive patients (240 men and 101 women; mean age, 68.1 years) who underwent cervical spine surgery were retrospectively examined. Logistic regression models were employed to examine the prevalence, characteristics, and risk factors of postoperative VTE., Results: In this study, 2.6% of cervical spine surgery patients experienced postoperative VTE. In comparisons of VTE and non-VTE groups, significant differences were found for age (79.6 years vs 67.7 years, P < 0.01), 1-week postoperative D-dimer level (10.6 μg/mL vs 2.7 μg/mL, P < 0.01), and cardiovascular disease (44.4% vs 11.1%, P = 0.011). Multivariate analysis identified elevated postoperative D-dimer level and cardiovascular disease as significantly associated with postsurgical VTE with respective odds ratios of 1.54 and 9.52., Conclusion: Postoperative VTE in cervical spine surgery was seen in 2.6% of cases. Background: Atlantoaxial transarticular fixation, also called the Magerl technique, is said to be the most robust biomechanical method of fixation of the atlantoaxial vertebrae. However, the procedure carries a risk of spinal cord and vertebral artery injury during the insertion process, especially in patients with a high-riding vertebral artery. In this study, a computed tomography (CT)-based navigation system was used for preoperative planning and insertion. This investigation sought to determine the rate and direction of screw perforation as well as the incidence of screw loosening in computer-assisted atlantoaxial transarticular fixation., Methods: Sixty patients (31 men and 29 women; mean ± SD age: 65.3 ± 19.6 years) who received atlantoaxial transarticular screw insertion with preoperative CT navigation were analyzed. We investigated screw position and loosening by CT at the final follow-up., Results: Of the 108 screws inserted, the rate of Grade 2 or higher perforation was 4.6% (5/108). Nine of 81 (11.1%) screws inserted into the 44 patients who were followed for at least 6 months showed loosening. Logistic regression analysis revealed that unilateral insertion (odds ratio: 8.50, 95% confidence interval: 1.53-47.2, P = 0.014) was significantly associated with the incidence of screw loosening., Conclusions: The screw perforation rate of Grade 2 or higher in computer-assisted atlantoaxial transarticular screw fixation was 4.6%, with comparable frequencies of perforation direction. We herein report a case of neurosyphilis that presented with isolated bilateral abducens nerve palsy. A 39-year-old man was referred to our department with diplopia. He had a history of homosexual relationships and showed only bilateral abducens nerve palsy upon a neurological examination. Positive syphilis tests in the serum and cerebrospinal fluid and a contrasting effect on the abducens nerve on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) confirmed the diagnosis of active neurosyphilis. When a patient manifests isolated abducens nerve palsy, neurosyphilis can be a differential diagnosis, although rare, and contrast-enhanced MRI may help diagnose the disease.

During the coronavirus pandemic, face-to-face simulation education became impossible. Therefore, we aimed to develop remote-access simulation education with a sense of realism through Information and Communication Technology (ICT) using a perinatal whole-body management and delivery simulator. In September 2021, we administered a multi-center simultaneous remote simulation based on our developed model. Ten universities in the Chugoku-Shikoku region were connected via a web-conferencing system to a live broadcast of a virtual vaginal birth in which a fictional hospitalized pregnant woman experienced accelerated labor and gave birth through vacuum delivery for fetal distress. A Video on Demand (VOD) was made beforehand using a new simulator that allowed for a visual understanding of the process of the inter-vaginal examination. We provided a participatory program that enhanced the sense of realism by combining VOD and real-time lectures on each scenario, with two-way communication between participants and trainee doctors using a chat function. Most participants answered "satisfied" or "very satisfied" with the content, level of difficulty, and level of understanding. From November 2021, we have used the videos of all processes in face-to-face classes. The predictive abilities of computer-based screening devices for early cognitive decline (CD) in older adults have rarely been longitudinally examined. Therefore, this study examined the ability of CogEvo, a short-duration, computer-based cognitive screening device requiring little professional involvement, to predict CD among community-dwelling older adults. We determined whether 119 individuals aged ≥ 65 years living in Japanese rural communities who scored ≥ 24 on the Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE) at baseline developed CD by annually administering the MMSE to them. CD was defined as an MMSE score of ≤23. At baseline, the overall CogEvo judgment grade, with lower grades indicating better cognitive function, was calculated from the results of various cognitive tasks. Over 2 years, 10 participants developed CD. Participants with grades of 4 had a higher percentage of CD cases than those with grades of ≤3 ( p < 0.01). This relationship remained significant after controlling for possible confounders, including the MMSE score at baseline. The sensitivity and specificity of the CogEvo grade cutoff of 4 were 50.0% and 93.6%, respectively. In conclusion, CogEvo may be an efficient tool for identifying individuals at a high risk for dementia. The possibility of missing CD cases should be considered when using CogEvo for screening.

The incidence of cerebral infarction triggered by abnormal glucose tolerance has increased; however, the relationship between glucose concentration in the brain and the detailed mechanism of post ischemic cell death remains unclear. Nicotinamide phosphoribosyltransferase (NAMPT), an adipocytokine, is the rate-limiting enzyme for NAD + synthesis in the salvage pathway. Although NAMPT activation prevents neuronal injury, the relationship between NAMPT activity, glucose metabolism disorders, and cerebral ischemia-induced neuronal cell death is unknown. In this study, we determined changes in NAMPT on cerebral ischemic injuries with diabetes using a db/db mouse model of type 2 diabetes and then identified the underlying mechanisms using Neuro2a cells. The expression of inflammatory cytokine mRNAs was increased in db/db and db/+ middle cerebral artery occlusion and reperfusion (MCAO/R) mice. Although NeuN-positive cells were decreased after MCAO/R, the number of NAMPT and NeuN double-positive cells in NeuN-positive neuronal cells increased in db/db MCAO/R mice. Next, the role of NAMPT in Neuro2a cells under conditions of high glucose (HGC) and oxygen-glucose deprivation (OGD), which mimics diabetes-complicated cerebral infarction, was examined. Treatment with P7C3-A20, a NAMPT activator, suppressed the decrease in cell viability caused by HGC/OGD; however, there were no significant differences in the levels of cleaved caspase-3 and Bax proteins. Moreover, increased FoxO3a and LC3-II levels after HGC/OGD were inhibited by P7C3-A20 treatment. Background: Depression is a leading cause of disability worldwide yet its underlying factors, particularly microbial associations, are poorly understood., Methods: We examined the longitudinal interplay between the microbiome and immune system in the context of depression during an immersive psychosocial intervention. 142 multi-omics samples were collected from 52 well-characterized participants before, during, and three months after a nine-day inquiry-based stress reduction program., Results: We found that depression was associated with both an increased presence of putatively pathogenic bacteria and reduced microbial beta-diversity. Following the intervention, we observed reductions in neuroinflammatory cytokines and improvements in several mental health indicators. Interestingly, participants with a Prevotella -dominant microbiome showed milder symptoms when depressed, along with a more resilient microbiome and more favorable inflammatory cytokine profile, including reduced levels of CXCL-1., Conclusions: Our findings reveal a protective link between the Prevotella-dominant microbiome and depression, associated with a less inflammatory environment and moderated symptoms. Study Design: Retrospective., Objective: Severe curves >100° in adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS) are rare and require careful operative planning. The aim of this study was to assess baseline, perioperative, and 2-year differences between anterior release with posterior instrumentation (AP), posterior instrumentation with posterior column osteotomies (P), and posterior instrumentation with 3-column vertebral osteotomies (VCR)., Methods: Two scoliosis datasets were queried for primary cases of severe thoracic AIS (≥100°) with 2-year follow-up. Pre- and 2-year postoperative radiographic measures (2D and estimated 3D kyphosis), clinical measurements, and SRS-22 outcomes were compared between three approaches., Results: Sixty-one patients were included: 16 AP (26%), 38 P (62%), 7 VCR (11%). Average age was 14.4 ± 2.0 years; 75.4% were female. Preoperative thoracic curve magnitude (AP: 112°, P: 115°, VCR: 126°, P = 0.09) and T5-T12 kyphosis (AP: 38°, P: 59°, VCR: 70°, P = 0.057) were similar between groups. Estimated 3D kyphosis was less in AP vs P (-12° vs 4°, P = 0.016). Main thoracic curves corrected to 36° in AP vs 49° and 48° for P and VCR, respectively ( P = 0.02). Change in estimated 3D kyphosis was greater in AP vs P and VCR (34° vs 13°, P = 0.009; 34° vs 7°, P = 0.046). One incomplete spinal cord injury had residual deficits (P; 1/61, 1.6%). All SRS-22 domains improved postoperatively., Conclusion: All approaches obtained satisfactory coronal and sagittal correction, but AP had smaller residual coronal deformity and greater kyphosis restoration than the other approaches. Introduction: Preoperative estimations of blood loss are important when planning surgery for cervical spine injuries in older adults. The association between ankylosis and blood loss in perioperative management is of particular interest. This multicenter database review aimed to evaluate the impact of ankylosis on surgical blood loss volume in elderly patients with cervical spine injury., Methods: The case histories of 1512 patients with cervical spine injury at among 33 institutions were reviewed. After the exclusion of patients without surgery or whose blood loss or ankylosis status was unclear, 793 participants were available for analysis. Differences in blood loss volume were compared between the Ankylosis (+) group with ankylosis at the cervical level and the Ankylosis (-) group without by the inverse probability of treatment weighting (IPTW) method using a propensity score., Results: Of the 779 patients (mean age: 75.0±6.3 years) eligible for IPTW calculation, 257 (32.4%) had ankylosis at the cervical level. The mean blood loss volume was higher in Ankylosis (+) patients than in Ankylosis (-) patients (P<0.001). This difference did not reach statistical significance when weighted by background factors, with mean blood loss of 244 mL and 188 mL, respectively, after adjustment., Conclusions: This study revealed that ankylosis was significantly associated with increased blood loss volume when unadjusted by surgical time. We investigated the effectiveness of simulation-based education in Focused Assessment with Sonography for Trauma (FAST) to increase the number of Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) capable of performing ultrasound examinations in vehicles under the guidance of a physician. Twenty-eight paramedics watched a 14-min video on the features of the ultrasound system, its use, and the scanning method for each part of the body. Each participant performed four FAST examinations using a portable ultrasound device, and the task performance was rated using the Task Specific Checklist (TSC) and Global Rating Scale (GRS). The time required for visualizing each examination site and each FAST was assessed. The mean time required for the first and fourth FAST was 144.6 ± 52.4 s and 90.5 ± 31.0 s, respectively. The time required for each test significantly decreased with repeated testing (p < 0.001). The time to complete FAST was significantly shortened for the pericardial cavity (33.4 ± 23.1/15.3 ± 10.6 s, p < 0.01), right thoracic cavity (25.2 ± 11.8/12.1 ± 8.3 s, p < 0.01), Morrison fossa (19.1 ± 10.8/10.8 ± 6.3 s, p < 0.05), and left thoracic cavity (19.0 ± 8.3/15.6 ± 8.3 s, p < 0.05). TSC and GRS scores were elevated, and all EMTs could obtain valid images. The combination of a brief video lecture and hands-on training significantly reduced the time required for FAST performance. Herein, we evaluated the internal consistency and external validity of the Japanese version of the SRS-30 for AIS patients., Methods: Among the 30 questions in SRS-30, the eight additional questions from SRS-22r were translated and back-translated to create a Japanese version of the SRS-30. This translated questionnaire was then used to survey patients with AIS who underwent corrective fusion surgery one year postoperatively. The internal consistency of the responses was evaluated using the Cronbach α coefficient. Additionally, the Spearman correlation analyses were conducted to assess the correlation between the scores obtained from the SRS-30 Japanese version and SRS-22r and the Oswestry Disability Index (ODI) for the overall scale and the five domains., Results: A total of 81 cases (eight males and 73 females; mean age at surgery 14.4 years) were enrolled. The mean preoperative Cobb angle was 51.0°. The Cronbach α coefficient for the overall SRS-30 was 0.861, indicating high internal consistency, while the coefficients for each domain were as follows: function/activity, 0.697; pain, 0.405; self-image/appearance, 0.776; mental health, 0.845; and satisfaction, 0.559. The SRS-30 total score significantly correlated with the SRS-22r total (r=0.945, P<0.001) and the ODI (r=-0.511, P<0.001). The SRS-30 domains highly correlated with the corresponding SRS-22r domains, with correlations ranging from r=0.826 to 0.901 (all P<0.001)., Conclusions: The Japanese version of the SRS-30 demonstrated good internal and external validity. Background: This study aimed to examine the clinical outcomes of double-bundle (DB) anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction in patients aged ≥60 years., Methods: Anatomical DB-ACL reconstruction using hamstring tendon autografts was performed in 13 patients aged ≥60 years at our institution between June 2012 and May 2018. The patients included seven men and six women, and the mean age at surgery was 65.0 years (range, 60-73 years). The mean time from injury to surgery was 80.5 months (range, 1-480 months), and the mean follow-up time was 26.2 months (range, 24-42 months). All patients were assessed based on physical examination findings, clinical scores, Kellgren-Lawrence grades preoperatively and at the final postoperative follow-up, intraoperative meniscal or chondral lesions, and perioperative complications. Status of returning to sports for all patients was assessed at the final follow-up., Results: The mean side-to-side differences by arthrometer improved from 4.3 mm (range, 2-8 mm) to 0.9 mm (range, 0-2 mm), and the positive pivot-shift test decreased from 100% to 8%. The mean extensor muscle strength was 93.3% (range, 74-116%) postoperatively. The mean Lysholm score improved from 71.1 (range, 27-85) to 95.2 (range, 89-100). Ten of the 13 patients (77%) returned to their pre-injury level of sports performance, and one patient (8%) returned to sports with less intensity. Intraoperatively, meniscal tears were observed in 10 patients (77%), and chondral lesions >grade 2 were observed in 11 (85%). One patient developed perioperative complications. At the final follow-up, the Kellgren-Lawrence grade worsened in only one patient. This large-scale study including 2548 healthy adults with no clinical attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) diagnosis intended to clarify the complex relationships between cerebral grey matter volumes (GMVs), ADHD traits, and driving safety behaviours. Path analysis of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) results and questionnaires about ADHD traits and traffic crashes over the past decade revealed significant correlations of ADHD traits with different brain regions relevant to different cognitive functions. The left precuneus responsible for visuospatial cognition was the sole region correlated with all ADHD trait categories, suggesting it plays an important role in understanding driving safety and traffic crashes. Left-sided portal hypertension (LSPH), an uncommon manifestation of portal hypertension, is characterized by conditions such as isolated gastric varices and splenomegaly, which result from impeded splenic venous drainage in the presence of pancreatic disease. We employed a percutaneous transhepatic technique to achieve regression of isolated gastric varices by implanting a covered stent within a blocked splenic vein and by embolizing the posterior gastric vein and varices using N-butyl-2-cyanoacrylate. Background and Aim: In this retrospective study, we evaluated the effects of pemafibrate treatment in patients with metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) and hypertriglyceridemia using non-invasive stiffness-based models, including magnetic resonance elastography (MRE) combined with the fibrosis-4 (FIB-4) (MEFIB) index and the magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)-aspartate aminotransferase (AST) (MAST) score., Methods: In total, 179 patients with MASLD treated with pemafibrate were enrolled. We evaluated the effects of 48-week pemafibrate treatment using the MEFIB index, which classifies patients based on the combination of liver stiffness measurement (LSM) on MRE and FIB-4 and the MAST score, which is calculated based on LSM on MRE, MRI-proton density fat fraction (MRI-PDFF), and AST levels., Results: Pemafibrate treatment led to significant reduction in AST, alanine aminotransferase (ALT), and gamma-glutamyl transferase (GGT) ( P  = 0.011, <0.001, and <0.001, respectively) and significant improvements in triglyceride and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol levels ( P  < 0.001 and <0.001, respectively). The MRI-PDFF values were not significantly altered. However, a significant decrease in LSM on MRE was detected ( P  = 0.003). Evaluation of fibrosis using the MEFIB index and MAST score demonstrated significant improvement ( P  = 0.004 and <0.001, respectively). Changes in the MAST score showed positive correlation with changes in ALT and GGT levels ( r  = 0.821, P  < 0.001, and r  = 0.808, P  < 0.001, respectively). Additionally, ALT and GGT levels at baseline were significantly associated with improvements in the MAST score ( P  < 0.001 and <0.001, respectively)., Conclusion: Pemafibrate led to improvements in the MEFIB index and MAST score, as well as liver function. Percutaneous treatments, including thoracic duct embolization (TDE) and thoracic duct disruption (TDD), are reportedly effective and safe alternatives to surgical thoracic duct ligation for refractory chylothorax. When catheterization of the thoracic duct is impossible, TDD can be performed as long as the thoracic duct can be opacified by lymphangiography. However, no report has described percutaneous treatment when the thoracic duct cannot be visualized. In this case, TDE was not feasible because intranodal lymphangiography failed to opacify the thoracic duct: cannulation was not achieved. Therefore, we aimed to disrupt the thoracic duct by puncturing the retrocrural area where it was anatomically suspected to be located. Chylothorax improved thereafter. Background: Recurrent patellar dislocation (RPD) is a multifactorial disease that affects young and active people. Patellar height measurements are used clinically to screen and diagnose knee conditions. However, there are no known studies that have assessed and compared the performance of patellar height indices for predicting the incidence of RPD, which could be used to recommend surgical treatment after primary patellar dislocation. This case-control study aimed to determine if the patellar height index could be used to predict the incidence of RPD, and to identify the optimal method in terms of its diagnostic ability for RPD., Method: Altogether, 133 patients (52 patients with RPD [Group R] and 81 sex- and age-matched controls [Group C]) were enrolled in this study. The Insall-Salvati (IS), Blackburne-Peel (BP), Caton-Deschamps (CD), and modified IS (mIS) methods were used to measure the patellar height index. The intra-observer and inter-observer reliabilities of these four methods were determined using intraclass correlation coefficients. A receiver operating characteristic curve analysis was performed to evaluate the predictive ability of each index and identify the cut-off values that indicated significantly increased risk of RPD., Results: Patient demographics were similar between the two groups. The inter-observer and intra-observer reliabilities were good for all four methods. In patients with RPD, the mean index values for the four methods were significantly higher than those in the matched controls. The area under the curve (AUC) values for IS, BP, CD, and mIS were 0.91 (standard error [SE], 0.03; 95% confidence interval [CI], 0.84-0.96), 0.72 (SE, 0.05; 95% CI, 0.63-0.81), 0.86 (SE, 0.03; 95% CI, 0.79-0.92), and 0.96 (SE, 0.01; 95% CI, 0.94-0.99), respectively., Conclusion: Patellar height indices had high predictive performance for the incidence of RPD. Reciprocal sagittal alignment changes after adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS) posterior corrective surgery have been reported in the cervical spine, but the evidence is not yet sufficient. Furthermore, much remains unknown about the effects of cervical kyphosis on clinical outcomes in AIS. Forty-five consecutive patients (4 males and 41 females) with AIS and Lenke type 1 or 2 curves underwent a posterior spinal fusion, and a minimum of 24-month follow-up was collected from our prospective database. We investigated radiographic parameters and SRS-22r. Before surgery, cervical kyphosis (cervical lordosis < 0°) was present in 89% and cervical hyperkyphosis (cervical lordosis < -10°) in 60%. There were no significant differences in age, sex, or Lenke type between the hyperkyphosis and the non-hyperkyphosis groups. Although cervical lordosis increased significantly after surgery, cervical kyphosis was observed in 73% of patients 2 years after surgery. We found a significant correlation between Δthoracic kyphosis (TK) and Δcervical lordosis. Preoperative cervical kyphosis, ΔT1 slope, and ΔTK were independently associated factors for postoperative cervical hyperkyphosis. The cervical hyperkyphosis group had significantly lower SRS-22r domains. In AIS corrective surgery, restoring TK leading to a gain of T1 slope may lead to an improvement of cervical sagittal alignment. Remaining cervical hyperkyphosis after AIS surgery may affect clinical outcomes.

Background: Amyloidosis is a rare group of diseases in which fibrillar amyloid proteins are deposited in systemic organs to result in functional disorder. However, amyloidosis affecting the cervical spine is very rare. We herein describe a case of systemic amyloidosis including a combination of cervical myelopathy with amyloid deposition and cardiac dysfunction due to cardiac amyloidosis., Case Presentation: An 86-year-old man with cervical myelopathy accompanied with cardiac dysfunction due to cardiac amyloidosis underwent posterior cervical laminectomy from C3 to C4. We were able to identify the patient's cardiac amyloidosis and significant cardiac dysfunction before surgery and manage his perioperative treatment successfully. Preoperative cervical computed tomography (CT) showed multiple fine calcifications below the lamina, which were later confirmed by pathological analysis as amyloid deposition., Conclusions: This is a relatively rare report of systemic amyloidosis including a combination of cervical myelopathy with amyloid deposition and cardiac dysfunction from cardiac amyloidosis. CT findings of multiple fine calcifications suggest the possibility of amyloidosis and may warrant further examination of cardiac function.

trans -3,4-Dihydroxyselenolane (DHS), a water-soluble cyclic selenide, exhibits selenoenzyme-like unique redox activities through reversible oxidation to the corresponding selenoxide. Previously, we demonstrated that DHS can be applied as an antioxidant against lipid peroxidation and a radioprotector by means of adequate modifications of the two hydroxy (OH) groups. Herein, we synthesized new DHS derivatives with a crown-ether ring fused to the OH groups (DHS-crown- n ( n = 4 to 7), 1 - 4 ) and investigated their behaviors of complex formation with various alkali metal salts. According to the X-ray structure analysis, it was found that the two oxygen atoms of DHS change the directions from diaxial to diequatorial by complexation. The similar conformational transition was also observed in solution NMR experiments. The 1 H NMR titration in CD 3 OD further confirmed that DHS-crown-6 ( 3 ) forms stable 1:1 complexes with KI, RbCl and CsCl, while it forms a 2:1 complex with KBPh 4 . The results suggested that the 1:1 complex ( 3 ·MX) exchanges the metal ion with metal-free 3 through the formation of the 2:1 complex. The redox catalytic activity of 3 was evaluated using a selenoenzyme model reaction between H 2 O 2 and dithiothreitol. The activity was significantly reduced in the presence of KCl due to the complex formation. Thus, the redox catalytic activity of DHS could be controlled by the conformational transition induced by coordination to an alkali metal ion.

It is more than 50 years since the concept of transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt (TIPS) was first introduced as a percutaneous procedure for patients with refractory variceal bleeding and ascites. TIPS has become widely accepted in the management of complications of portal hypertension because it is less invasive than surgery. In the early days of TIPS, complications included the poor long-term patency of the stent and a high incidence of hepatic encephalopathy. In addition, an excessive shunt diameter after TIPS often resulted in severe hepatic encephalopathy. Although recent covered stents have significantly reduced shunt dysfunction, the development of hepatic encephalopathy and early liver failure remain to be crucial post-TIPS complications. Study Design: Retrospective cohort study., Purpose: This study aimed to evaluate the relationship between C7 plumb line (C7PL) decompensation and the Scoliosis Research Society (SRS) 22-item patient questionnaire scores, including those related to self-image, preoperatively and 2 years after surgery., Overview of Literature: In the surgical treatment of adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS), inferior trunk balance caused by C7PL decompensation can negatively affect patients' quality of life. However, there are few reports in the literature that describe or clarify how postoperative trunk imbalance affects each SRS-22 domain, including self-image domain scores., Methods: A total of 120 patients with AIS who underwent posterior spinal fusion from August 2006 to March 2017 at our facility and were followed up for 2 years or more were included. Radiological parameters were measured on whole-spine anteroposterior and lateral radiographs. Revised SRS-22 (SRS-22r) values were also recorded. Coronal trunk imbalance was defined as a deviation of ≥2.0 cm between the C7PL and the central sacral vertical line. Patients with and without coronal trunk imbalance at 2 years after surgery were defined as D (+) (decompensation type) and D (-), respectively. Mean SRS-22r values, including function, pain, self-image, mental health, and subtotal were compared between the D (+) and D (-) groups. Logistic regression analysis was performed to detect the preoperative factors related to D (+) using predictors, including curve type, maximum Cobb angle, and coronal trunk imbalance., Results: At 2 years after surgery, the D (+) group had a significantly lower self-image in the domain of SRS-22r scores compared with the D (-) group. Preoperative coronal trunk imbalance was significantly related to D (+) but not to significant changes in the postoperative SRS-22 score in any of the SRS-22 domains., Conclusions: Postoperative C7PL deviation lowers the self-image in patients with AIS. Patients with preoperative coronal trunk imbalance were significantly more likely to be D (+).

Background: Delirium tremens is a symptom of alcohol withdrawal syndrome that occurs 48 to 96 hours after the last drink in 5% of withdrawing patients., Methods: This report describes the clinical progression of a case of lumbar vertebral burst fracture with alcohol withdrawal delirium that was difficult to manage., Results: A 47-year-old man was rushed to our hospital complaining of lumbar back pain and numbness in both lower extremities resulting from a 6-m fall during civil engineering work. Computed tomography (CT) revealed a L1 burst fracture with a highly protruding bone fragment in the spinal canal. Magnetic resonance imaging disclosed significant compression of the conus and intramedullary signal changes. We immediately performed posterior spinal fusion and vertebroplasty using instrumentation. On the 4th postoperative day, he became severely agitated, as diagnosed as having delirium tremens related to alcohol withdrawal syndrome, and soon began appropriate medication with diazepam. Although his symptoms persisted until 6 days postoperatively, follow-up CT detected no evidence of screw loosening or breakage., Conclusion: We encountered a patient with severe delirium tremens developing several days after thoraco-lumbar fusion surgery. Prompt internal fixation successfully treated the spinal injury and prevented neurological damage. Leukoaraiosis, a common ischaemic lesion diagnosed using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), can influence driving safety performance (DSP). Most older drivers with leukoaraiosis are unaware of their affliction. Japan is a super-aged country, where preventing accidents caused by older drivers is an urgent national issue. We investigated the subcortical and periventricular leukoaraiosis regions that were most involved in DSP decline. The driving skills of 101 drivers (49 men, 52 women; mean age, 77.88 ± 3.77 years) without dementia were assessed by official driving instructors, using actual vehicles on a closed-circuit course. Parietal and occipital (but not frontal or temporal) leukoaraiosis volumes were significantly correlated with decreased DSP scores regardless of age, especially when turning right at intersections, which needs more attention than turning left because left-side driving is legally enforced in Japan. Occipital leukoaraiosis was also involved via a decline in dynamic visual cognitive function. MRI-based assessment of leukoaraiosis volume and localisation may enable the identification of older drivers prone to DSP deterioration. Risk factors for leukoaraiosis include smoking and lifestyle-related diseases such as hypertension. Background: Brain imaging studies have reported that the effect of repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) is associated with the activities of the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (DLPFC) and ventral medial prefrontal cortex (VMPFC). However, few studies have been conducted in Japanese patients., Aim: We aimed to identify brain regions associated with depressive symptom changes by measuring regional cerebral blood flow (rCBF) in the DLPFC and VMPFC before and after the high-frequency rTMS to the left DLPFC in Japanese patients with treatment-resistant depression., Method: Fourteen patients participated in the rTMS study and were assessed with the 17-item Hamilton depression rating scale (HAM-D 17 ). Among them, 13 participants underwent magnetic resonance imaging scan of the brain using the arterial spin labeling method. The rCBF was calculated using the fine stereotactic region of interest template (FineSRT) program for automated analysis. We focused on eight regions reported in previous studies., Results: Depression severity significantly decreased after 2 week (HAM-D 17 :11.4 ± 2.8, P = 0.00027) and 4 week (HAM-D 17 : 11.0 ± 3.7, P = 0.0023) of rTMS treatment. There was no significant change in rCBF at each region in the pre-post design. However, there was a significantly negative correlation between baseline rCBF in the right DLPFC and the improvement in HAM-D 17 score (r = -0.559, P = 0.047)., Conclusion: We obtained supportive evidence for the effectiveness of rTMS to the prefrontal cortex in treatment-resistant depression, which may be associated with reduced rCBF of the right DLPFC before initiation of rTMS., (© 2022 The Authors. Limb muscle strength asymmetry affects many physical abilities. The present study (1) quantified limb muscle asymmetry in patients with adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS); (2) compared AIS patients with major thoracolumbar/lumbar (TL/L) or major thoracic (MT) curves; (3) examined correlations between limb muscle asymmetry and radiographic parameters. Patients with AIS with major TL/L curves (Lenke type 5C) and MT curves (Lenke Type 1A) who underwent posterior spinal fusion at our university hospitals were included. Patients with left hand dominance were excluded. Body composition was measured using whole-body dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry and asymmetry of left and right side skeletal muscles were evaluated. Upper extremity skeletal muscles on the dominant side were significantly larger than those on the nondominant side in both Lenke1A and 5C groups. The asymmetry of upper extremity skeletal muscles was significantly greater in the Lenke1A group than in the Lenke5C group. Additionally, the size of the asymmetry did not correlate with the magnitude of the major curve and rotational deformation but did correlate with a right shoulder imbalance in the Lenke1A group. These results suggest that in AIS with a constructive thoracic curve, right shoulder imbalance is an independent risk factor for upper extremity skeletal muscle asymmetry.

Arm positions employed during magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) can affect magnetic field distribution, which may result in variability in proton density fat fraction (PDFF) measurements. This study evaluated the effect of arm position on lumbar PDFF measured using chemical-shift-encoded MRI (CSE-MRI). Fifteen healthy volunteers from a single-center underwent lumbar CSE-MRI at two different arm positions (side and elevated) using a single 3T scanner. Scans were performed twice in each position. PDFFs of the L1-L5 vertebrae were independently measured by two readers , and reader measurements were compared by calculating intraclass correlation coefficients (ICC). We compared PDFF measurements from two arm positions and from two consecutive scans using the Wilcoxon test and Bland-Altman analysis. Measurements from the two readers were in high agreement [ICC =0.999; 95% confidence interval (CI), 0.998-0.999]. No significant difference was observed between PDFFs from the first and second scans of all vertebrae for each reader (all P>0.05); however, PDFF for the elevated arm position was significantly higher than that for the side arm position (37.9-44.8% vs. 37.0-43.8%; all P<0.05), except at the L2 level by reader 2. The mean differences in PDFF measurements from the first and second scans [0.1%; 95% limits of agreement (LoA), -1.8% to 1.9%] and from the side arm and elevated arm positions (0.8%; 95% LoA, -1.6% to 3.2%) were small. Background Delayed union or pseudoarthrosis after posterior lumbar interbody fusion (PLIF) is associated with poor outcomes in health-related quality of life. Therefore, it is important to achieve earlier solid fusion for a successful clinical outcome after PLIF. A few authors reported that biomechanical factors may influence spinal fusion rates. The purpose of our retrospective study was to evaluate the independent predictors of delayed osseous union related to intraoperative procedures of PLIF, and to find ways to reduce delayed osseous union. Methods This was a retrospective study of a completed trial. We reviewed 66 elderly patients with osteoporosis after PLIF (all female, mean age 71 years, follow-up period over 6 months). Lumbar computed tomography scans at 2 months postoperatively were examined for the presence of a translucent zone between autograft and endplate (more than 50% of vertebral diameter), and autograft position with bone bridging (anterior, central, or posterior). Osseous union was assessed by using computed tomography 6 months postoperatively. Results Thirty-three patients (50%) showed complete osseous union, while 33 did not. A translucent zone between autograft and endplate two months postoperatively was observed in nine patients (27%) in the union group and in 23 (70%) in the nonunion group (p<0.01). Autograft position with bone bridging two months postoperatively was anterior, central, and posterior in 17 (52%), 30 (91%), and 20 patients (61%) in the union group, and in 12 (36%), 20 (61%), and seven patients (21%) in the nonunion group (p=0.22, p<0.01, and p<0.01), respectively. Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that the presence of a translucent zone between autograft and endplate (odds ratio, 0.101; 95% confidence interval: 0.026-0.398; p<0.01) and teriparatide administration (odds ratio, 8.810; 95% confidence interval: 2.222-34.936; p<0.01) were independently associated with osseous union after PLIF. Conclusions A translucent zone between autograft and endplate at two months postoperatively independently predicted delayed osseous union within six months after PLIF. Complete osseous union rates were higher in patients with posterior bone bridging two months postoperatively than in those without. Introduction: Corrective scoliosis surgery in patients with adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS) increases thoracic volume but does not improve respiratory function (RF). This study evaluates the effect of physical flexibility (PF) improvement after scoliosis surgery on RF., Methods: This study reviewed the records of 61 consecutive patients with AIS (56 female and 5 male; mean±standard deviation age: 14.8±2.2 years, range: 11-20 years) who had undergone posterior spinal fusion (PSF) of the thoracic curve. PF evaluated as finger-floor distance (FFD) was measured preoperatively and one year after surgery. After dividing the cohort into the PF improvement group and the PF nonimprovement group, RF changes at two years postoperative were statistically compared. Using logistic regression analysis, we evaluated the impact of a PF improvement on % forced vital capacity (%FVC) two years after surgery., Results: The rate of patients with increased FVC, %FVC, and forced expiratory volume 1.0 second two years after surgery was 79%, 51%, and 80%, respectively. The PF improvement group exhibited a significantly higher gain in %FVC versus the PF nonimprovement group (P=0.043). Moreover, PF improvement significantly prevented a %FVC decrease (odds ratio 8.43, 95% confidence interval 1.92-59.70; P<0.001), with an adjusted odds ratio of 11.86 (P<0.001)., Conclusions: Patients with diminished PF after PSF for AIS may be less likely to achieve postoperative %FVC improvement. Pyomyoma is a rare condition that causes fever and abdominal pain associated with pregnancy, especially in the postpartum period. An appropriate diagnosis and early medical intervention are required to prevent serious complications. A 38-year-old primigravida with uterine fibroids had fever from the 11th day after cesarean section. The fever did not resolve despite repeated daily administration of broad-spectrum β-lactam antibiotics for 2 weeks. Although the physical examination did not show any lower abdominal pain, a pelvic magnetic resonance scan revealed degenerative fibroids, and myomectomy was performed. Yellow-greenish odorless pus inside the uterus was detected, and Mycoplasma hominis was detected in the pus culture. Mycoplasma species are resistant to broad-spectrum penicillin antibiotics and can cause pyomyoma. No validated systems exist for selecting the upper instrumented vertebra (UIV) for optimal postoperative shoulder balance in Lenke type 2 adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS). This study evaluated a new method for shoulder balance prediction using the modified Shinshu line (MSL) for UIV selection in AIS Lenke type 2 curves. Fifty-five consecutive AIS patients receiving posterior spinal fusion (PSF) for a Lenke type 2 AIS curve were retrospectively analyzed according to several UIV determination models. Shoulder imbalance was judged as absolute radiographic shoulder height ≥ 10 mm at the 2-year observational endpoint. The MSL was the line between the center of the spinous process of C7 and that of the lowest instrumented vertebra. The vertebral body first touched proximally by the MSL was defined as the MSL vertebra (MSLV) and recommended as the UIV. The group with the UIV matching the MSLV had a significantly lower prevalence of shoulder imbalance of 23% (odds ratio 4.08, 95% CI 1.22-13.7, P = 0.02). Study Design: Retrospective observational study of a cohort of consecutive patients., Objectives: Postoperative ileus (POI) is associated with a variety of adverse effects. Although the incidence of and risk factors for POI following spinal surgery have been reported, the frequency and pathology of POI after spinal corrective surgery for adult spinal deformity (ASD) are still largely unknown. The study objectives were to: (1) clarify the prevalence and clinical significance of POI, (2) elucidate the risk factors for POI, (3) determine radiographically which preoperative and/or postoperative spinal parameters predominantly influence the risk of POI after spinal corrective surgery for ASD., Methods: We included data from 144 consecutive patients who underwent spinal corrective surgery. Perioperative medical complications and clinical information were extracted from patient electronic medical records. Preoperative radiographic parameters and changes in radiographic parameters after surgery were compared between patients with and without POI. Multivariate logistic regression analyses were performed to clarify potential risk factors for POI., Results: POI developed in 25/144 (17.4%) patients and was the most common complication in the present study. The frequencies of smoking, gastroesophageal reflux disease, and lateral lumbar interbody fusion (LLIF), as well as the duration of surgery were significantly greater in the group with POI versus the group without POI. Among radiographic parameters, only the change in thoracolumbar kyphosis (TLK) from before to after surgery was significantly larger in the group with POI. Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that male sex, LLIF and large changes in TLK from before to after surgery were significantly associated with the development of POI., Conclusions: These results suggested that LLIF and large corrections in TLK were independent risk factors for POI after ASD surgery. When patients with ASD have large TLK preoperatively, and it is determined that a large correction is needed, physicians must be aware of the potential for occurrence of POI.

Study Design: Retrospective cohort study., Objectives: Nonunion after posterior lumbar interbody fusion (PLIF) is associated with poor improvements in health-related quality of life (HRQOL). We aimed to investigate the influence of early osseous union after PLIF on HRQOL., Methods: We reviewed 138 patients with 1-level PLIF (mean age 67 years, follow-up period ≥1 year). Postoperative lumbar computed tomography was performed to assess screw loosening and intervertebral union. HRQOL was assessed using the Japanese Orthopaedic Association Back Pain Evaluation Questionnaire., Results: Thirty-nine patients (28%) showed complete union at 6 months postoperatively (early union group). Twenty-eight patients (20%) showed complete union at 6 to 12 months postoperatively (delayed union group), while 71 patients demonstrated noncomplete union. Effective improvement of lumbar spine dysfunction and psychological disorders was achieved in 19 (63.3%) and 17 (50.0%) patients in the early union group, in 9 (42.9%) and 14 (53.8%) patients in the delayed union group, and in 22 (34.9%) and 19 (29.2%) patients in the nonunion group, respectively ( P = .036 and P = .036, respectively). The nonunion group had a significantly higher proportion of cases with screw loosening at 6 and 12 months postoperatively than the complete union group ( P = .033 and P = .022)., Conclusions: Lumbar spine dysfunction and psychological disorders improved in cases with early complete union compared to those with nonunion. Screw loosening occurred in cases with nonunion predominantly from 6 months postoperatively. Therefore, the achievement of early complete union might be helpful for better HRQOL and lower incidence of postoperative complications.

Background: Patients with congenital heart disease (CHD) are associated with an increased incidence of scoliosis, often with severe progression. We report a case of hemoptysis caused by rapid scoliosis progression subsequent to surgery for CHD that was successfully managed by surgical curve correction following coil embolization., Case Presentation: A 14-year-old girl with scoliosis had undergone open heart surgery for CHD at the age of 1 year. She was first noted to have scoliosis at 12 years of age, which began to progress rapidly. At age 13, her main thoracic curve Cobb angle was 46°, and hemoptysis with high pulmonary vein pressure due to vertebral rotation was detected. Nine months after coil embolization, she received posterior spinal fusion from T5 to L2 for scoliosis correction. Postoperatively, her pulmonary vein diameter was enlarged, with no detectable signs of hemoptysis., Conclusions: We encountered a case of hemoptysis caused by advanced scoliosis after cardiac surgery that was successfully treated by correction of the scoliotic curve following coil embolization. Patients with secondary scoliosis after surgery for CHD should be carefully monitored for the possibility of cardiovascular system deterioration., (© 2022. The Author(s).)

Apathy and depression are frequently observed as behavioral and psychological symptoms of dementia, respectively, and are important for ensuring adequate care. This study aims to explore effective non-pharmacological interventions for apathy and depression with mild cognitive impairment (MCI) and dementia. Five search engines including PubMed, Scopus, CINAHL, PsycInfo, and Web of Science were used to extract relevant studies. Inclusion criteria were studies that involved participants who were diagnosed with MCI or dementia, included quantitative assessments of each symptom, and employed randomized controlled trials. Twenty studies were extracted, with interventions have been conducted in care facilities, the community, and hospitals. Participants in many studies had MCI or mild-to-moderate dementia but were not diagnosed with the subtypes of dementia. Few studies had set apathy and depression as the primary outcomes of non-pharmacological interventions. The findings suggested that emotional and stimulation-oriented approaches to apathy and depression would be useful for people with MCI or mild-to-moderate dementia. It would be helpful for therapists to assess the clinical features of the target symptoms for selecting suitable interventions. Introduction: In elderly patients with cervical spinal cord injury, comorbidities such as cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases are common, with frequent administration of antiplatelet/anticoagulant (APAC) drugs. Such patients may bleed easily or unexpectedly during surgery despite prior withdrawal of APAC medication. Few reports have examined the precise relationship between intraoperative blood loss and history of APAC use regarding surgery for cervical spine injury in the elderly. The present multicenter database survey aimed to answer the question of whether the use of APAC drugs affected the amount of intraoperative blood loss in elderly patients with cervical spinal cord trauma., Methods: The case histories of 1512 patients with cervical spine injury at 33 institutes were retrospectively reviewed. After excluding cases without spinal surgery or known blood loss volume, 797 patients were enrolled. Blood volume loss was the outcome of interest. We calculated propensity scores using the inverse probability of treatment weighting (IPTW) method. As an alternative sensitivity analysis, linear mixed model analyses were conducted as well., Results: Of the 776 patients (mean age: 75.1±6.4 years) eligible for IPTW calculation, 157 (20.2%) were taking APAC medications before the injury. After weighting, mean estimated blood loss was 204 mL for non-APAC patients and 215 mL for APAC patients. APAC use in elderly patients was not significantly associated with surgical blood loss according to the IPTW method with propensity scoring or linear mixed model analyses. Thus, it appeared possible to perform surgery expecting comparable blood loss in APAC and non-APAC cases., Conclusions: This multicenter study revealed no significant increase in surgical blood loss in elderly patients with cervical trauma taking APAC drugs. Abstract: This study investigated whether postoperative rotational deformity in adolescent idiopathic scoliosis patients could be predicted by prone-position pre-operative angle of trunk rotation (ATR).Surgical rib hump correction is performed with the patient in a prone position. However, the association between pre-operative ATR in the prone position and postoperative ATR results is unknown.Thirty-four consecutive patients who underwent skip pedicle screw fixation for Lenke type 1 or 2 adolescent idiopathic scoliosis were retrospectively reviewed. All subjects were followed for a minimum of 1 year. ATR measurements were taken for the standing-flexion position with a scoliometer before surgery and at 1 year afterward. Pre-operative measurements were also taken for the prone position. Correlations between pre- and postoperative ATR were calculated by means of Pearson correlation coefficient. Associations between the correction angle from the standing-flexion position to prone position and postoperative standing-flexion correction angle were determined by linear regression analysis.Pre- and postoperative ATR for the standing-flexion position showed a moderate association (r = 0.64, P < .01). A similar correlation was seen for pre-operative prone-position ATR and postoperative standing-flexion ATR (r = 0.56, P < .01). In linear regression analysis, there was significant proportional error between the correction angle from the standing-flexion position to prone position and postoperative standing-flexion correction angle (β = 0.40, P < .01).In conclusion, pre-operative ATR in either standing-flexion or prone position and postoperative standing-flexion ATR displayed moderate associations. Purpose: Intranodal embolization using n-butyl cyanoacrylate glue is an emerging treatment option for persistent lymphatic leakage. This report describes the procedure details of intranodal embolization for groin lymphocele and evaluates the efficacy of intranodal embolization at our institution via retrospective chart review., Material and Methods: Nine consecutive patients (six men and three women; median age, 77.4 years; range, 43-95 years) who underwent intranodal embolization for groin lymphocele between January 2017 and December 2019 were included as study subjects. Intranodal lymphangiography with iodinated contrast was performed to confirm lymphatic leakage, followed by intranodal embolization using n-butyl cyanoacrylate glue mixed with iodized oil for all nine patients. The etiologies of lymphocele, technical and clinical success rates of intranodal embolization, duration of treatment, follow-up period, and acute and chronic complications were retrospectively investigated., Results: The etiologies of groin lymphoceles were the cutdown access of inguinal vessels (n = 7), lymph node biopsy (n = 1), and trauma (n = 1). The technical and clinical success rates of both lymphangiography and subsequent intranodal embolization were 100%. For intranodal embolization, 16.7%-33.3% n-butyl cyanoacrylate glue was used. The median duration of treatment was 2 days (range, 1-13 days). The follow-up period lasted 0-895 days (median, 9 days). No acute or chronic complications were observed., Conclusions: In this study, intranodal embolization showed promising results for groin lymphocele with a short duration of treatment with a median of 2 days. Intranodal embolization using n-butyl cyanoacrylate glue could be a treatment option for persistent groin lymphocele.
