The oncogenic role of long intergenic noncoding RNA for IGF2BP2 stability (LINRIS) has been reported in colorectal cancer. This research aimed to study its potential involvement in gastric cancer (GC). In this study, paired GC and non-tumor tissues were obtained from 64 GC patients, and the levels of LINRIS, mature microRNA-34a (miR-34a), and miR-34a precursor in these tissues were measured with RT-qPCR. Linear regression was used to analyze their correlations. The role of LINRIS overexpression and siRNA silencing in regulating the maturation of miR-34a was analyzed by RT-qPCR. Cell apoptosis was studied with flow cytometry. It was observed that LINRIS was overexpressed in GC and showed a negative correlation with mature miR-34a, but not miR-34a precursor. In GC cells, LINRIS siRNA silencing upregulated mature miR-34a level, but not miR-34a precursor level. LINRIS overexpression downregulated miR-34a level. Cell apoptosis analysis showed that LINRIS siRNA silencing and miR-34a overexpression promoted GC cell apoptosis and suppressed cell migration and invasion, while LINRIS overexpression suppressed cell apoptosis and enhanced cell migration and invasion. In addition, the effect of LINRIS overexpression was reversed by miR-34a overexpression. Therefore, LINRIS siRNA silencing in GC may promote cell apoptosis by promoting miR-34a maturation.

Objective To compare the clinical effects of coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) between the left anterior small thoracotomy (LAST) and lower-end sternal splitting (LESS) approaches for coronary artery disease. Methods In total, 110 patients who underwent LAST from October 2015 to December 2020 in Tianjin Chest Hospital were selected as the observation group. Patients who underwent the LESS approach during the same period were analyzed. The propensity score was calculated by a logistic regression model, and nearest-neighbor matching was used for 1:1 matching. Results The length of hospital stay and ventilator support time were significantly shorter in the LAST than LESS group. The target vessels in the obtuse marginal branch and posterior left ventricular artery branch grafts were significantly more numerous in the LAST than LESS group, but those in the right coronary artery graft were significantly less numerous in the LAST group. Conclusions CABG using either the LAST or LESS approach is safe and effective, especially in low-risk patients. The LAST approach can achieve complete revascularization for multivessel lesions and has the advantages of less trauma and an aesthetic outcome. However, it requires a certain learning curve to master the surgical techniques and has specific surgical indications.

【Background】 Drought is an important factor restricting China’s agricultural development. Tianshui City of Gansu Province is located in the inland, with a warm temperate semi-humid and semi-arid climate, thin soil layer, unfertile land and lack of irrigation conditions. Natural rainfall is an important source of agricultural irrigation water, but affected by geographical location and climatic conditions, the average annual rainfall is small and uneven. As a result, crops have low utilization efficiency of rainfall. Therefore, it is particularly important to improve crop water use efficiency in arid areas. CLP type super absorbent polymer is a kind of new polymer materials, water absorption and water retention ability is very strong, containing a large number of strong water absorption, high permeability can be induced by association with and through the base mesh structure, absorb hundreds of times to thousands of times more than its weight of water, for a variety of crops, fruit trees, vegetables and so on root directly provide plenty of water, to ensure that the crop growth environment, It has positive significance to improve the water use efficiency of orchard. 【Objective】 The purpose of this paper is to study the effect of CLP type super absorbent polymer on soil physical and chemical properties and fruit quality of apple orchard in dryland. 【Method】 This experiment used crosslinked polyacrylamide (acrylamide-potassium acrylate copolymer, English name is CL-PAM-K, abbreviated as CLP) super absorbent polymer. Set four treatments, respectively were: CK: no super absorbent polymer; T1:150 g/plant; T2:250 g/plant; T3:350 g/plant. Soil water content, soil nutrients, fruit appearance quality and nutritional quality were measured to comprehensively evaluate the effects of each treatment on soil physical and chemical properties and fruit quality. 【Result】 At the bud stage, T1 treatment decreased the soil electrical conductivity by 5.70%, 10.82% and 19.64%, in the 0-20 cm, 20-40 cm and 40-60 cm soil layers, respectively. At fruit ripening stage, T1 treatment increased the soil water content by 7.26% and 39.12% in the 20-40 cm and 40-60 cm soil layers, respectively, while decreasing the pH value by 3.43%, 1.38% and 0.23% in the 0-20 cm, 20-40 cm and 40-60 cm soil layers, respectively. The fruit peel puncture strength increased by 16%. The application of 250 g/plant increased the soil water content and available nitrogen in the 0~20 cm, 20-40 cm and 40-60 cm soil layers at the bud stage, as well as the available potassium in the 0-20 cm and 40-60 cm soil layers at both the bud stage and fruit ripening stage. The application of 350 g/plant increased the available phosphorus in the 0-20 cm, 20-40 cm and 40-60 cm soil layers at both the bud stage and fruit ripening stage. The application of 250 g/plant increased the soluble protein and total phenol content of apple fruits. 【Conclusion】 The application of 350 g/plant was the optimal amount of drought-resistant soil amendment to improve soil physical and chemical properties and enhance fruit quality in dryland apple orchards.

Obesity has now surpassed malnutrition and infectious diseases as the most significant contributor to health problems worldwide. In particular, obesity is associated with several metabolic disorders, including hyperlipidemia, hepatic steatosis, and subfertility. Genipin (GNP), the aglycone of geniposide, is isolated from the extract of the traditional Chinese medicine Gardenia jasminoides Ellis and has been used in traditional oriental medicine against several inflammation-driven diseases. However, the effect and molecular mechanism of GNP on obesity-associated dyslipidemia and sperm dysfunction still need to be explored. In this study, we detect the effects of GNP on hyperlipidemia, hepatic lipid accumulation and sperm function using a high-fat diet (HFD)-induced obese mouse model. We find that obese mice treated with GNP show an improvement in body weight, serum triglyceride levels, serum hormone levels, serum inflammatory cytokines, hepatic steatosis and sperm function. At the molecular level, HFD/GNP diversely regulates the expression of miR-132 in a tissue-specific manner. miR-132 further targets and regulates the expression of SREBP-1c in liver cells, as well as the expressions of SREBP-1c and StAR in Leydig cells in the testis, thus modifying lipogenesis and steroidogenesis, respectively. Collectively, our data demonstrate that GNP shows a broad effect on the improvement of HFD-induced metabolic disorder and sperm dysfunction in male mice by tissue-specific regulation of miR-132. Our findings reveal the function GNP in ameliorating hepatic lipid metabolism and sperm function and suggest that this compound is a versatile drug to treat metabolic disorders.

Bovine herpesvirus type‐4 (BHV‐4) belongs to the gamma‐herpesvirus subfamily, and its association with reproductive disorders in dairy cows is controversial. In this study, 386 whole blood and reproductive swab samples from dairy cows across eight provinces in China were collected. BHV‐4 antibody levels in the serum were determined via ELISA, while real‐time fluorescent quantitative PCR (qPCR) was employed to detect the DNA of BHV‐4, BHV‐1, bovine viral diarrhea virus type‐I (BVDV‐1), and bovine viral diarrhea virus type‐II (BVDV‐2) in the samples. Additionally, the DNA content of BHV‐4 in various tissues of cows and stillborn fetuses was assessed via qPCR. Breeding information for the participating cows was gathered through farmer interviews, and correlation analyses were conducted between the detection results and breeding information. The findings revealed a BHV‐4 antibody positive rate of 57.8% and a nucleic acid positive rate of 36.3%. Chi‐square analysis revealed a correlation between BHV‐4 and BHV‐1 infections. Among several pathogens associated with reproductive disorders, only BHV‐4 was significantly correlated, whereas BHV‐1, BVDV‐1, and BVDV‐2 were not correlated. Furthermore, the study revealed elevated BHV‐4 DNA in the reproductive tracts of cows and stillborn fetuses. Histopathological sections revealed mucosal damage in the vaginal and uterine tissues of stillborn fetuses, a phenomenon not previously reported. In summary, our study provides novel insight into the correlation between BHV‐4 and reproductive disorders and presents new evidence that supports the vertical transmission of BHV‐4. To describe the prevalence of self-reported coronary heart disease (CHD) and assess the influence of varied risk factors on it in Tianjin. Methods: This study included a total of 102,576 individuals aged 35 to 75 from 13 community health centers and grassroots hospitals in Tianjin. Basic information, questionnaire responses, physical examinations, and laboratory tests of each participant were researched, and documented. Participants were categorized into CHD group and non-CHD group. Multivariate logistic regression was utilized to evaluated the relationships between associated factors and CHD. Results: The prevalence of self-reported CHD was 2.56%, 3.97% among men and 1.69% among women. In multivariate logistic regression analysis, older age (41– 65 years: OR: 7.37, 95% CI: 4.56– 11.94; > 65 years: OR:17.88, 95% CI: 11.02– 29.01), female sex (OR: 0.40, 95% CI: 0.36– 0.44), education (sedentary level: OR: 0.88, 95% CI: 0.79– 0.97; high level: OR: 0.74, 95% CI: 0.63– 0.87), family annual income (10,000– 50,000 yuan: OR: 0.68, 95% CI: 0.60– 0.77; > 50,000 yuan: OR: 0.71, 95% CI: 0.62– 0.82), recently drinking habits (2– 4 times /month: OR: 0.75, 95% CI: 0.63– 0.90; 2– 3 times/week: OR: 0.69, 95% CI: 0.56– 0.86; > 4 times/week: OR: 0.72, 95% CI: 0.63– 0.83), obesity (OR: 1.17, 95% CI: 1.07– 1.28), central obesity (OR: 1.51, 95% CI: 1.33– 1.71), hypertension (OR: 1.60, 95% CI: 1.43– 1.80), dyslipidemia (OR: 0.90, 95% CI: 0.83– 0.98), diabetes mellitus (OR: 2.02, 95% CI: 1.85– 2.19), stroke (OR: 1.42, 95% CI: 1.24– 1.63), family history (CVD: OR: 4.48, 95% CI: 4.00– 5.01; stroke: OR: 1.83, 95% CI: 1.58– 2.12) were associated with CHD (P < 0.05). Conclusion: These findings highlight growing concerns regarding the escalating rates of CHD. Implementing multifaceted, population-based interventions is crucial to mitigate the burden of cardiovascular conditions. Atherosclerosis (AS) is an inflammatory disease characterized by arterial inflammation. One important trigger for AS development is the excessive migration of vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMCs); however, the mechanism underlying this phenomenon remains unclear. Therefore, we investigated the role of DNA polymerase β (Pol β), a crucial enzyme involved in base excision repair, VSMC migration, and subsequent AS development. In this study, we revealed a significant increase in Pol β content within AS plaques in ApoE−/−Pol β+/+ mice. In vitro experiments demonstrated a significant decrease in hCASMC viability and migration ability upon Pol β knockdown, whereas the subsequent recovery of Pol β expression reversed this effect. Moreover, our investigations revealed that Pol β knockdown leads to the inhibition of the POSTN gene transcription by suppressing the YY1/TGF-β1 pathway, resulting in the decreased expression of the protein periostin during VSMC migration. Collectively, our findings provide insights into the role of Pol β in AS development, offering a novel approach for the clinical treatment of cardiovascular diseases. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract Background Although renal insufficiency and dyslipidemia are known to be closely associated, the effect of kidney function on the size and clinical value of high-density lipoprotein (HDL) particles remains largely unknown, especially in patients with coronary heart disease. Methods A total of 419 coronary heart disease patients and 105 non-coronary heart disease patients were included. HDL particle size, represented by HDL-C/apoA-I, was compared between groups stratified by estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) and Gensini scores using standard Student’s t test and one-way ANOVA. Pearson’s correlation test was performed to analyze the association between eGFR and HDL-C/apoA-I in patients with coronary heart disease. The relationship between HDL particle size and the occurrence of coronary heart disease was explored using Univariate logistic regression analysis. Reactive oxygen species (ROS)‐induced oxidative DNA damages have been considered the main cause of mutations in genes, which are highly related to carcinogenesis and tumour progression. Extracellular vesicles play an important role in cancer metastasis. However, the precise role of DNA oxidative damage in extracellular vesicles (EVs)‐mediated cancer cell migration and invasion remains unclear. Here, we reveal that ROS‐mediated DNA oxidative damage signalling promotes tumour metastasis through increasing EVs release. Mechanistically, 8‐oxoguanine DNA glycosylase (OGG1) recognises and binds to its substrate 8‐oxo‐7,8‐dihydroguanine (8‐oxoG), recruiting NF‐κB to the synaptotagmin 7 (SYT7) promoter and thereby triggering SYT7 transcription. The upregulation of SYT7 expression leads to increased release of E‐cadherin‐loaded EVs, which depletes intracellular E‐cadherin, thereby inducing epithelial‐mesenchymal transition (EMT). Notably, Th5487, the inhibitor of DNA binding activity of OGG1, blocks the recognition and transmission of oxidative signals, alleviates SYT7 expression and suppresses EVs release, thereby preventing tumour progression in vitro and in vivo. Collectively, our study illuminates the significance of 8‐oxoG/OGG1/SYT7 axis‐driven EVs release in oxidative stress‐induced tumour metastasis. The quality inspection of each precast utility tunnel segment is crucial, especially the cross-sectional dimensions and surface smoothness, since they influence the assembly precision at the construction site. Traditional manual inspection methods are not only time-consuming and costly but also limited in accuracy. In order to achieve a high-precision and high-efficiency geometric quality inspection for multi-type precast utility tunnel segments, this paper proposes an automated inspection method based on the Building Information Model (BIM) and Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR). Initially, the point cloud data (PCD) of the precast utility tunnel segment are acquired through LiDAR and preprocessed to obtain independent point clouds of the precast utility tunnel segment. Then, the shape of the precast utility tunnel segment is identified using the proposed Cross-Sectional Geometric Ratio Feature Identification (CSGRFI) algorithm. Subsequently, the geometric features of the components are extracted based on preset conditions, and the geometric dimensions are calculated. Finally, the quality inspection results are obtained by comparing with the design information provided by the BIM. The proposed method was validated in a real precast component factory. The results indicate that the method achieved a 100% success rate in identifying the cross-sectional shapes of the segments. Compared with the manual measurement method, the proposed method demonstrated a higher accuracy in the geometric quality assessment and an improved time efficiency by 44%. The proposed method enables the efficient geometric quality inspection of tunnel segments, effectively addressing the construction industry's need for large-scale, high-quality tunnel projects.
