1. Validation of non-equilibrium kinetics in CO2-N2 plasmas

Abstract

This work explores the effect of N2 addition on CO2 dissociation and on the vibrational kinetics of CO2 and CO under various non-equilibrium plasma conditions. A self-consistent kinetic model, previously validated for pure CO2 and CO2-O2 discharges, is further extended by adding the kinetics of N2. The vibrational kinetics considered include levels up to v = 10 for CO, v = 59 for N2 and up to v1 = 2 and v2 = v3 = 5, respectively for the symmetric stretch, bending and asymmetric stretch modes of CO2, and account for electron-impact excitation and de-excitation (e-V), vibration-to-translation (V-T) and vibration-to-vibration energy exchange (V-V) processes. The kinetic scheme is validated by comparing the model predictions with recent experimental data measured in a DC glow discharge operating in pure CO2 and in CO2-N2 mixtures, at pressures in the range 0.6 - 4 Torr (80.00 - 533.33 Pa) and a current of 50 mA. The experimental results show a higher vibrational temperature of the different modes of CO2 and CO and an increased dissociation fraction of CO2, that can reach values as high as 70%, when N2 is added to the plasma. On the one hand, the simulations suggest that the former effect is the result of the CO2-N2 and CO-N2 V-V transfers and the reduction of quenching due to the decrease of atomic oxygen concentration; on the other hand, the dilution of CO2 and dissociation products, CO and O2, reduces the importance of back reactions and contributes to the higher CO2 dissociation fraction with increased N2 content in the mixture, while the N2(B3Pg) electronically excited state further enhances the CO2 dissociation.

The kinetic scheme is validated by comparing the model predictions with recent experimental data measured in a DC glow discharge, operating at pressures in the range 0.4 - 5 Torr (53.33 - 666.66 Pa). The experimental results show a lower vibrational temperature of the different modes of CO2 and a decreased dissociation fraction of CO2 when O2 is added to the plasma but an increase of the vibrational temperature of CO. On the one hand, the simulations suggest that the former effect is the result of the stronger V-T energy-transfer collisions with O atoms which leads to an increase of the relaxation of the CO2 vibrational modes; On the other hand, the back reactions with O2 contribute to the lower CO2 dissociation fraction with increased O2 content in the mixture., Comment: 34 pages 15 figures

Abstract

This article reports on a case of a 39-year-old woman who was referred to a fetal cardiac program in Toronto, Canada, after a fetal cardiac mass was discovered during a second-trimester anatomy scan. The mass was identified as a cardiac tumor called rhabdomyoma, and further testing was done to determine if it was associated with tuberous sclerosis (TS). Treatment with sirolimus, an mTOR inhibitor, was initiated to relieve symptoms and prevent further deterioration. The tumor responded well to treatment, and the patient delivered a healthy baby. This case suggests that transplacental therapy with sirolimus can be effective for non-TS rhabdomyomas, and further research is needed to understand the molecular mechanisms involved. Abstract

We predict the emergence of a roton minimum in the dispersion relation of elementary excitations in cold atomic gases in the presence of diffusive light. In large magneto-topical traps, multiple-scattering of light is responsible for the collective behavior of the system, which is associated to an effective Coulomb-like interaction between the atoms. In optically thick clouds, the re-scattered light undergoes diffusive propagation, which is responsible for a stochastic short-range force acting on the atoms. We show that the dynamical competition between these two forces results on a new polariton mode, which exhibits a roton minimum. Making use of Feynman's formula for the static structure factor, we show that the roton minimum is related to the appearance of long-range order in the system., Comment: 5 pages, 3 figures

Abstract

Emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases constitute one of the main health problems worldwide. The objective of the research consisted of analyzing the development dynamics of adult mosquito populations of the species Ae. aegypti in Villa Clara province, Cuba during the period 2016-2020. The research covered the 13 municipalities of Villa Clara. An observational, descriptive, ecological, retrospective and analytical-statistical (by decision tree/exploratory data analysis) study was conducted. The study was based on the collection of positive samples/number of outbreaks reported in the 13 municipalities of the province, in the different months of the period analyzed, for the mosquito species Ae. aegypti, where each sample point corresponded to the number of specimens collected in one of the years covered, with one of the months of the year in question (12 months), the 13 municipalities, and 9 types of reservoirs. This resulted in 7 020 observations, which constitutes the sample size. The presence of the species under analysis was found in the 13 municipalities of the province, with abundant population densities; on the other hand, the variables with the greatest incidence in the population dynamics were: municipality and type of reservoir, with emphasis on the low tank, as the preferred oviposition and breeding site for this species. It is concluded that Ae. aegypti has a high capacity for adaptation and high ecological plasticity, with a marked correspondence between the ecology and habitat of the species under analysis.

Abstract

Vibrational excitation represents an efficient channel to drive the dissociation of CO2 in a non-thermal plasma. Its viability is investigated in low-pressure pulsed discharges, with the intention of selectively exciting the asymmetric stretching mode, leading to stepwise excitation up to the dissociation limit of the molecule. Gas heating is crucial for the attainability of this process, since the efficiency of vibration-translation (V-T) relaxation strongly depends on temperature, creating a feedback mechanism that can ultimately thermalize the discharge. Indeed, recent experiments demonstrated that the timeframe of V-T non-equilibrium is limited to a few milliseconds at ca. 6 mbar, and shrinks to the mu s-scale at 100 mbar. With the aim of backtracking the origin of gas heating in pure CO2 plasma, we perform a kinetic study to describe the energy transfers under typical non-thermal plasma conditions. The validation of our kinetic scheme with pulsed glow discharge experiments enables to depict the gas heating dynamics. In particular, we pinpoint the role of vibration-vibration-translation relaxation in redistributing the energy from asymmetric to symmetric levels of CO2, and the importance of collisional quenching of CO2 electronic states in triggering the heating feedback mechanism in the sub-millisecond scale. This latter finding represents a novelty for the modelling of low-pressure pulsed discharges and we suggest that more attention should be paid to it in future studies. Additionally, O atoms convert vibrational energy into heat, speeding up the feedback loop. The efficiency of these heating pathways, even at relatively low gas temperature and pressure, underpins the lifetime of V-T non-equilibrium and suggests a redefinition of the optimal conditions to exploit the 'ladder-climbing' mechanism in CO2 discharges.

Abstract

Background: the possible relationship between dietary habits and the incidence of late-onset depression (LOD), defined as first depression onset at later age, is unclear. Objective: to investigate the relationship between consumption of different food groups and incident LOD. Design: longitudinal population-based study with a 12-year follow-up. Setting: Castellana Grotte, Bari, Italy. Subjects: five hundred and forty-six older subjects from the Salus in Apulia Study. Methods: baseline data were recorded in 2003-06, and diagnostic data were recorded in 2013-18 at follow-up. Dietary intake was assessed with a food frequency questionnaire. Depressive disorders were assessed with the Structured Clinical Interview for DSM-IV Axis I Disorders. Subjects who already suffered from depression or other psychiatric disorders at baseline were excluded from the analysis. The association between LOD and single dietary determinants was examined by Cox regression analysis and then applying the hazard ratio (HR). Results: subjects with incident LOD (n = 34) had lower global cognition and total cholesterol levels and a higher body mass index (BMI) at baseline. Only processed meat significantly increased the risk of incident LOD of about 10% by 5 g/day intake (HR adjusted for age, sex, education, multimorbidity and BMI: 1.13, 95% confidence intervals: 1.04-1.22). A similar relationship was found for single foods in the processed meat food group such as sausages, salami and mortadella and baked ham, but not for raw ham. Conclusions: in midlife, a higher intake of processed meat was not only associated with an increased risk of cardiovascular- and metabolic-related chronic diseases in older age but also with an increased risk of developing LOD.

Antecedentes: La depresión posparto (DPP) es un importante trastorno de la salud mental en la mujer, al cual se le han atribuido variados factores de riesgo para su presentación. Objetivo: Se propuso determinar los factores de riesgos para DPP en puérperas atendidas en la Maternidad "Dr. Armando Castillo Plaza" del Hospital Universitario de Maracaibo, Venezuela. Método: Se realizó una investigación descriptiva con diseño no experimental, mediante una muestra de 100 puérperas, evaluadas por la Escala de Depresión Postparto de Edimburgo (EDPS). Resultados: Hubo una prevalencia del test positivo del 91%, con una prevalência de DPP confirmada mediante el DSM-IV del 22%. De las características evaluadas solo los trastornos médicos durante el embarazo, la enfermedad del neonato, no contar con el apoyo de su pareja, presentar antecedentes de depresión o melancolía o tener un nivel educativo primario o inferior, mostraron una asociación significativa con el desarrollo de DPP. El nacimiento mediante cesárea y no contar con el apoyo familiar presentaron una asociación significativa con el riesgo de DPP; mientras que el parto vaginal o haber alcanzado un nivel educativo superior a la primaria mostraron tener un efecto protector. Conclusión: Existe una alta prevalencia de DPP, con diversos factores de riesgo que permitirían tomar acciones para un diagnóstico oportuno de esta enfermedad.Background: Postpartum depression (PPD) is a major mental health disorder in women, which have been attributed to various risk factors for it presentation. Objective: To determine the PPD's risk factors present in the postpartum patients taken care of Maternity "Dr Armando Castillo Plaza" at the University Hospital of Maracaibo, Venezuela. Method: A descriptive study was conducted with non-experimental design, which included a sample of 100 postpartum women, as measured by the scale of the Edinburgh Postpartum Depression (EDPS). Results: The results demonstrated a prevalence of the positive test in 91% of the sample, with a confirmed prevalence of postpartum depression by the DSM-IV of 22%, determined that the characteristics assessed only medical disorders during pregnancy, the disease of the newborn, not having the support from your partner, have a history of depression or melancholy, or have a primary or lower education level, showed a significant association with the development of PPD. For its part, the birth by caesarean section and not having family support showed a significant association with the risk of PPD, while vaginal delivery or have reached a level higher than primary education showed a protective effect with this condition. Conclusion: There is a high prevalence of postpartum depression, with several risk factors that would take action for a timely diagnosis of disease.

Abstract

En este artículo se describe el tratamiento de una niña con estrés postraumático producto de una violación. Este tratamiento integra desensibilización sistemática, relajación, control del pensamiento, y psicoeducación. Se pretendió reducir los síntomas intrusivos, evitativos y de aumento de la activación fisiológica propios de este trastorno. Para medir los efectos de la intervención se registraron los niveles de ansiedad de la niña mediante la escala de unidades subjetivas de ansiedad (SUDS; Wolpe, 1958). Los resultadosindican una disminución gradual de la sintomatología hasta llegar a niveles mínimos en nueve semanas. Estos resultados se mantienen en el seguimiento realizado semanas, meses y dos años después de terminado el tratamiento. Finalmente se discuten las implicancias teóricas y clínicas de estos resultados.

Abstract

Anthropogenic disturbance is a major cause of the biodiversity crisis. Nevertheless, the role of anthropogenic substrate vibrations in disrupting animal behavior is poorly understood. Amphibians comprise the terrestrial vertebrates most sensitive to vibrations, and since communication is crucial to their survival and reproduction, they are a suitable model for investigating this timely subject. Playback tests were used to assess the effects of substrate vibrations produced by two sources of anthropogenic activity– road traffic and wind turbines– on the calling activity of a naïve population of terrestrial toads. In their natural habitat, a buried tactile sound transducer was used to emit simulated traffic and wind turbine vibrations, and changes in the toads’ acoustic responses were analyzed by measuring parameters important for reproductive success: call rate, call duration and dominant frequency. Our results showed a significant call rate reduction by males of Alytes obstetricans in response to both seismic sources, whereas other parameters remained stable. Since females of several species prefer males with higher call rates, our results suggest that anthropogenically derived substrate-borne vibrations could reduce individual reproductive success. Our study demonstrates a clear negative effect of anthropogenic vibrations on anuran communication, and the urgent need for further investigation in this area.

Resumen Introducción: La acumulación de experiencias de distinto tipo de maltrato o violencia durante la infancia ha sido nominada como polivictimización. Se ha documentado que la polivictimización genera consecuencias negativas en la salud mental de las personas. En Chile, no existe suficiente investigación respecto de este fenómeno, únicamente se conocen algunas cifras que muestran que es prevalente. El objetivo del estudio es evaluar la frecuencia con que adolescentes han sido sometidos a diferentes niveles de polivictimización y su relación con los niveles de sintomatología depresiva y con la frecuencia de conductas autolesivas. Método: El estudio, descriptivo correlacional, encuesta a 114 adolescentes de entre 17 y 18 años de edad. Resultados: Se aprecia que el 40,3% de la muestra habría sufrido al menos 2 tipos diferentes de victimización y que la polivictimización se asocia a la sintomatología depresiva y a la frecuencia de las autoagresiones. Conclusión: Se concluye que los profesionales de salud mental debieran evaluar la posibilidad de que la psicopatología de sus pacientes específicos pudiese estar relacionados con experiencias de victimización infantojuvenil que debieran ser consideradas en los tratamientos.

Abstract

The study was aimed to investigate the role of radiotherapy (RT) as a risk factor for reactivation or worsening of symptoms in patients affected by rheumatoid arthritis (RA) PATIENTS AND METHODS: This is a single-center retrospective observational study on RA patients who developed cancer requiring RT during the course of the disease. The control group consisted of RA patients with cancer who did not undergo RT. In both groups, the disease activity was evaluated at baseline and at 6 and 12 months through the DAS28 index. A relapse was defined as an increase of20% in DAS28. A radiotherapist evaluated total and daily doses and timing of radiation. Acute and late toxicity was defined as events occurring within 90 days from the start and more than 90 days after the completion of RT, respectively.Seventy-two RA patients (38F/34M; mean age: 70±9 years; mean disease duration: 13±9 years), 29 (40.2%) of whom received radiotherapy (mean age 72.9±9 years), were enrolled. The most frequent malignancies were breast (27.2%), thyroid (9.8%), and skin (7%). Between radio-treated and non-radio-treated patients, no significant differences in RA reactivation (6/29 vs. 17/43; p=0.12) or mean exacerbation time (6.7 ± 4.9 months compared to 6.4 ± 4.1 months; p=0.78) were found. Overall, RT was well tolerated with low rates of both acute and late toxicity.In RA patients, RT was well tolerated and not associated with an increased risk of articular flares. Properly designed prospective clinical studies with a larger number of patients should be performed to confirm these data.

Abstract

The role of anisotropic scattering in rotational collisions of electrons with CO molecules is investigated numerically with Monte Carlo (MC) simulations and with calculations using the Lisbon KInetics two-term Boltzmann solver (LoKI-B). The study adopts integral cross sections taken from the IST-Lisbon database of LXCat or extracted from Biagi's code Magboltz v11.10. Different angular scattering models for rotational collisions are implemented and compared in MC simulations, and a novel anisotropic scattering model is derived from the dipole-Born differential cross sections, to describe the strongly forward-peaked nature of rotational collisions. This model is also implemented in LoKI-B, to describe the anisotropic inelastic/superelastic scattering in dipole rotational collisions, using coherent expressions for the corresponding integral and momentum transfer cross sections. The comparison between MC and LoKI-B results shows that the calculation of swarm parameters is more influenced by the choice of the angular scattering model than the adoption of the two-term approximation, yielding deviations up to 50% in the reduced mobility for different angular distributions. The consequences in the swarm derivation of cross sections are also discussed. Finally, it is shown that inclusion of electric-quadrupole interactions, usually neglected in electron swarm studies, can improve the agreement between numerical results and measurements.

Abstract

Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a fatal neurodegenerative disease with a lifetime risk of one in 350 people and an unmet need for disease-modifying therapies. We conducted a cross-ancestry genome-wide association study (GWAS) including 29,612 patients with ALS and 122,656 controls, which identified 15 risk loci. When combined with 8,953 individuals with whole-genome sequencing (6,538 patients, 2,415 controls) and a large cortex-derived expression quantitative trait locus (eQTL) dataset (MetaBrain), analyses revealed locus-specific genetic architectures in which we prioritized genes either through rare variants, short tandem repeats or regulatory effects. ALS-associated risk loci were shared with multiple traits within the neurodegenerative spectrum but with distinct enrichment patterns across brain regions and cell types. Of the environmental and lifestyle risk factors obtained from the literature, Mendelian randomization analyses indicated a causal role for high cholesterol levels. The combination of all ALS-associated signals reveals a role for perturbations in vesicle-mediated transport and autophagy and provides evidence for cell-autonomous disease initiation in glutamatergic neurons.

Abstract

Background: Hepatocellular carcinoma prognosis depends on both liver and tumor determinants, especially on maximum tumor diameter, multifocality, and presence of portal vein thrombosis, despite apparently complete tumor removal by resection or liver transplantation. Aims: To examine parameters of hepatocellular carcinoma aggressiveness as tumor size increases. Methods: A large hepatocellular carcinoma database was examined for trends in serum alpha-fetoprotein and the percentage of patients with macroscopic portal vein thrombosis or tumor multifocality. Results: A total of 13,016 hepatocellular carcinoma patients were identified having full tumor and survival data. Of these, 76.56% were male and 23.44% were female, with a median age of 64.4 years. We found that as the maximum tumor diameter increased, there was a significant trend for increased alpha-fetoprotein levels (P<0.001) and an increased percentage of patients with either portal vein thrombosis or tumor multifocality, each P<0.0001. Furthermore, the increases of both alpha-fetoprotein and portal vein thrombosis were proportionately greater than the related maximum tumor diameter increases. These trends of increased alpha-fetoprotein, portal vein thrombosis, and multifocality with increasing maximum tumor diameter had non-linear patterns. Within alpha-fetoprotein and multifocality trends, there were identifiable sub-trends associated with specific maximum tumor diameter ranges. Conclusions: The greater fold-increases in alpha-fetoprotein and portal vein thrombosis compared with increases in maximum tumor diameter imply that hepatocellular carcinoma characteristics may change with increasing size to a more aggressive phenotype, suggesting that follow-up tumor sampling might be useful, in addition to baseline tumor sampling, for optimal therapeutic choices to be made.

Abstract

Background. Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) factors, especially maximum tumor diameter (MTD), tumor multifocality, portal vein thrombosis (PVT), and serum alpha-fetoprotein (AFP), influence survival. Aim. To examine patterns of tumor factors in large HCC patients. Methods. A database of large HCC patients was examined. Results. A multiple Cox proportional hazard model on death identified low serum albumin levels and the presence of PVT and multifocality, with each having a hazard ratio ≥2.0. All combinations of these three parameters were examined in relation to survival. Using univariate Cox analysis, the combination of albumin >3.5 g/dL and the absence of both PVT and multifocality had the best survival rate, while all combinations that included the presence of PVT had poor survival and hazard ratios. We identified four clinical phenotypes, each with a distinct median survival: patients with or without PVT or multifocality plus serum albumin ≥3.5 (g/dL), with each subgroup displaying high (≥100 IU/mL) or low (<100 IU/mL) blood AFP levels. Across a range of MTDs, we identified only two significant trends, blood AFP and platelets. Conclusions. Patients with large HCCs have distinct phenotypes and survival, as identified by the combination of PVT, multifocality, and blood albumin levels.

Abstract

Background/Aim: Low-density lipoproteins (LDL) are a heterogeneous class of particles that differ in size and density from each other. Small dense LDL (sdLDL) particles are considered more atherogenic than larger particles. The aim of the study was to evaluate serum levels of sdLDL in patients who died from cardiovascular diseases (CVD) or cancer in a cohort of patients followed up in the De Bellis Research Hospital for 20 years. Patients and Methods: A total of 75 participants who died of cancer and 87 who died of CVD were enrolled and they were matched for age and sex with 135 healthy controls, i.e. without CVD or cancer and are still alive. Results: Patients who died from cancer had the highest value of LDL IV subfraction (0.25±1.16), followed by those who died from CVD (0.17±0.96). Conclusion: The integrated profile of sdLDL between CVD and cancer suggests that therapeutic modulation of sdLDL may be associated with a risk reduction for these diseases. © 2019 International Institute of Anticancer Research. Abstract

Plasma has been studied for several years to convert CO(2)into value-added products. If CO(2)could be converted in the presence of H2O as a cheap H-source for making syngas and oxygenates, it would mimic natural photosynthesis. However, CO2/H2O plasmas have not yet been extensively studied, not by experiments, and certainly not computationally. Therefore, we present here a kinetic modelling study to obtain a greater understanding of the vibrational kinetics of a CO2/H2O microwave plasma. For this purpose, we first created an electron impact cross section set for H2O, using a swarm-derived method. We added the new cross section set and CO2/H2O-related chemistry to a pure CO(2)model. While it was expected that H2O addition mainly causes quenching of the CO(2)asymmetric mode vibrational levels due to the additional CO2/H2O vibrational-translational relaxation, our model shows that the modifications in the vibrational kinetics are mainly induced by the strong electron dissociative attachment to H2O molecules, causing a reduction in electron density, and the corresponding changes in the input of energy into the CO(2)vibrational levels by electron impact processes.

Abstract

Moral vitalism refers to a tendency to view good and evil as actual forces that can influence people and events. The Moral Vitalism Scale had been designed to assess moral vitalism in a brief survey form. Previous studies established the reliability and validity of the scale in US-American and Australian samples. In this study, the cross-cultural comparability of the scale was tested across 28 different cultural groups worldwide through measurement invariance tests. A series of exact invariance tests marginally supported partial metric invariance, however, an approximate invariance approach provided evidence of partial scalar invariance for a 5-item measure. The established level of measurement invariance allows for comparisons of latent means across cultures. We conclude that the brief measure of moral vitalism is invariant across 28 cultures and can be used to estimate levels of moral vitalism with the same precision across very different cultural settings.

Abstract

Coffee drinking seems to have several beneficial effects on health outcomes. However, the effect on hepatic steatosis, depending on a high alcohol consumption (AFLD, alcoholic fatty liver disease) or on metabolic factors (non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, NAFLD), is still equivocal. Thus, we aimed to explore the potential association between coffee consumption and the presence and severity of hepatic steatosis in people with NAFLD or AFLD. In this cross-sectional study, coffee drinking was recorded using a semi-quantitative food frequency questionnaire, and categorized as yes vs. no and as 0, 1, 2, ≥3. The degree of fatty liver was assessed through a standardized ultrasound examination (score 0 to 6, with higher values reflecting higher severity). Liver steatosis was classified as NAFLD or AFLD on daily alcohol intake >30 g/day for men and >20 g/day for women. This study included 2819 middle-aged participants, the great majority were coffee drinkers (86.1%). After adjusting for 12 potential confounders, drinking coffee was not associated with decreased odds for NAFLD (n = 916) (odds ratio, OR = 0.93, 95% confidence intervals, CI: 0.72-1.20) or AFLD (n = 276) (OR = 1.20, 95% CI: 0.66-2.0). The consumption of coffee (categorized as yes vs. no), or an increased consumption of coffee were not associated with the presence of mild, moderate or severe liver steatosis in either NAFLD or AFLD. In conclusion, coffee intake was not associated with any lower odds of hepatic steatosis in either non-alcoholic or alcoholic forms in this large cohort of South Italian individuals. © 2018 by the authors. Resumen Introducción: La acumulación de experiencias de distinto tipo de maltrato o violencia durante la infancia ha sido nominada como polivictimización. Se ha documentado que la polivictimización genera consecuencias negativas en la salud mental de las personas. En Chile, no existe suficiente investigación respecto de este fenómeno, únicamente se conocen algunas cifras que muestran que es prevalente. El objetivo del estudio es evaluar la frecuencia con que adolescentes han sido sometidos a diferentes niveles de polivictimización y su relación con los niveles de sintomatología depresiva y con la frecuencia de conductas autolesivas. Método: El estudio, descriptivo correlacional, encuesta a 114 adolescentes de entre 17 y 18 años de edad. Resultados: Se aprecia que el 40,3% de la muestra habría sufrido al menos 2 tipos diferentes de victimización y que la polivictimización se asocia a la sintomatología depresiva y a la frecuencia de las autoagresiones. Conclusión: Se concluye que los profesionales de salud mental debieran evaluar la posibilidad de que la psicopatología de sus pacientes específicos pudiese estar relacionados con experiencias de victimización infantojuvenil que debieran ser consideradas en los tratamientos. The objective of the study is to evaluate the frequency of polyvictimization in the adolescents and its relation with the levels of depressive symptomatology and with the frequency of self-injurious behaviors. Method: This is a descriptive correlational study. We survey 114 adolescents between 17 and 18 years of age. Results: It was observed that 40.3% of the sample had suffered at least 2 different types of victimization and that polyvictimization is associated with depressive symptoms and with the frequency of self-harm. Conclusion: It is concluded that mental health professionals should evaluate the possibility that the mental health problems of their specific patients may be related to experiences of child and adolescent victimization, which should be considered in the treatments.

Abstract

Resumen Introducción: La acumulación de experiencias de distinto tipo de maltrato o violencia durante la infancia ha sido nominada como polivictimización. Se ha documentado que la polivictimización genera consecuencias negativas en la salud mental de las personas. En Chile, no existe suficiente investigación respecto de este fenómeno, únicamente se conocen algunas cifras que muestran que es prevalente. El objetivo del estudio es evaluar la frecuencia con que adolescentes han sido sometidos a diferentes niveles de polivictimización y su relación con los niveles de sintomatología depresiva y con la frecuencia de conductas autolesivas. Método: El estudio, descriptivo correlacional, encuesta a 114 adolescentes de entre 17 y 18 años de edad. Resultados: Se aprecia que el 40,3% de la muestra habría sufrido al menos 2 tipos diferentes de victimización y que la polivictimización se asocia a la sintomatología depresiva y a la frecuencia de las autoagresiones. Conclusión: Se concluye que los profesionales de salud mental debieran evaluar la posibilidad de que la psicopatología de sus pacientes específicos pudiese estar relacionados con experiencias de victimización infantojuvenil que debieran ser consideradas en los tratamientos.

Abstract

The objective of this study was to obtain and characterize three candidate microbial cultures for veterinary probiotics, developed in different substrates on agro-industry wastes. A selection of lactic acid bacteria (Lactobacillus acidophilus, L. bulgaricus, Streptoccus thermophillus) and yeasts of Kluyveromyces fragilis (L-4 UCLV) were used to develop probiotic preparations. The substrates chosen were: molasses (as a source of carbohydrates) and soy milk, whey, torula yeast and orange vinasse (as a source of protein) to obtain a high number of microorganisms and levels of organic acids. The substrates under study were composed of: T1, molasses and soy milk. T2, buttermilk more torula yeast and molasses. T3, orange vinasse and molasses. All the variables were incubated for 24 at 37 ° C. Dry matter, crude and true protein, ether extract, ash, viability and microbial concentration were determined in all treatments (T1, T2 and T3).
