We propose to measure the coherent elastic neutrino nucleus scattering (CE$\nu$NS) using a dual-phase liquid argon time projection chamber (TPC) with 200kg fiducial mass. The detector is expected to be adjacent to the JUNO-TAO experiment and to be about 35m from a reactor core with 4.6GW thermal power at Taishan. The antineutrino flux is approximately 6$\times10^{12}$cm$^{-1}$s$^{-1}$ at this location, leading to more than 11,000 coherent scattering events per day in the fiducial mass. However, the nuclear recoil energies concentrate in the sub-keV region, corresponding to less than ten ionisation electrons in the liquid argon. The detection of several ionisation electrons can be achieved in the dual-phase TPC due to the large amplification in the gas region. With a feasible detection threshold of four ionisation electrons, the signal rate is 955 per day. The detector is designed to be shielded well from cosmogenic backgrounds and ambient radioactivities to reach a 16% background-to-signal ratio in the energy region of interest. With the large CE$\nu$NS sample, the expected sensitivity of measuring the weak mixing angle $\sin^{2}\theta_{W}$, and of limiting the neutrino magnetic moment are discussed. Optical control of structural and electronic properties of Weyl semimetals allows development of switchable and dissipationless topological devices at the ultrafast scale. An unexpected orbitial-selective photoexcitation in type-II Weyl material WTe2 is reported under linearly polarized light (LPL), inducing striking transitions among several topologically-distinct phases. The symmetry features of atomic orbitals comprising the Weyl bands result in asymmetric electronic transitions near the Weyl points, and in turn an anisotropic response of interlayer shear motion with respect to linear light polarization, when a near-infrared laser pulse is applied. Consequently, not only annihilation of Weyl quasiparticle pairs, but also increasing separation of Weyl points can be achieved, complementing existing experimental observations. Our results provide a new perspective on manipulating the singularity of Weyl nodes and coherent control of electron and lattice quantum dynamics simultaneously.

Alkali-doped fullerides exhibit a wealth of unusual phases that remain controversial by nature. Here we report a cryogenic scanning tunneling microscopy study of the sub-molecular structural and electronic properties of expanded fullerene C60 films with various cesium (Cs) doping. By varying the discrete charge states and film thicknesses, we reveal a large tunability of orientational ordering of C60 anions, yet the tunneling conductance spectra are all robustly characteristic of energy gaps, hallmarks of Jahn-Teller instability and electronic correlations. The Fermi level lies halfway within the insulating gap for stoichiometric Cs doping level of n = 1, 2, 3 and 4, apart from which it moves toward band edges with concomitant electronic states within the energy gap. Our findings establish the universality of Jahn-Teller instability, and clarify the relationship among the doping, structural and electronic structures in CsnC60 fullerides., Comment: 9 pages, 6 figures

Modulating electronic structure of two-dimensional (2D) materials represents an exciting avenue for tailoring their optoelectronic properties. Here, we identify a strain-induced, cooperative effect of intraband and interband excitations contributing to high harmonic generation (HHG) in prototype dichalcogenide MoS2 monolayer. We find that besides the dominant intraband contributions, interband current is also indispensable in modulating HHG. The HHG yields increase linearly with the compressive strain since flatter band dispersion and Berry curvature enhance both interband and intraband dynamics. Band structure can be retrieved with high reliability by monitoring the strain-induced evolution of HHG spectra, suggesting that strain not only provides an additional knob to control HHG in solids, but also marks a way towards a complete understanding of underlying microscopic mechanisms.

The origin of charge density waves (CDW) in TiSe$_2$ has long been debated, mainly due to the difficulties in identifying the timescales of how and when the excitonic pairing and electron-phonon coupling (EPC) come into play. Without a proper time resolution and microscopic mechanism, one has to assume simultaneous appearance of CDW and periodic lattice distortions (PLD). Here, we accomplish a complete separation of exciton and PLD dynamics and unravel their interplay in the ultrafast time domain in our real-time time-dependent density functional theory simulations. We find that laser pulses knock off the exciton order and induce a homogeneous bonding-antibonding transition in the initial 20 fs, then the weakened electronic order triggers ionic movements antiparallel to the original PLD. The EPC comes into play after the initial 20~fs, and the two processes mutually amplify each other leading to a complete inversion of CDW ordering. The self-amplified dynamics reproduces the evolution of band structures in excellent agreement with ultrafast photoemission experiment. Ultrafast electronic dynamics in solids lies at the core of modern condensed matter and materials physics. To build up a practical ab initio method for studying solids under photoexcitation, we develop a momentum-resolved real-time time dependent density functional theory (rt-TDDFT)algorithm using numerical atomic basis, together with the implementation of both the length and vector gauge of the electromagnetic field. When applied to simulate elementary excitations in two-dimensional materials such as graphene, different excitation modes, only distinguishable in momentum space, are observed. The momentum-resolved rt-TDDFT is important and computationally efficient for the study of ultrafast dynamics in extended systems.

Rare event search experiments, such as those searching for dark matter and observations of neutrinoless double beta decay, require ultra low levels of radioactive background for unmistakable identification. In order to reduce the radioactive backgrounds of detectors used in these types of event searches, low background photosensors are required, as the physical size of these detectors become increasing larger, and hence the number of such photosensors used also increases rapidly. Considering that most dark matter and neutrinoless double beta decay experiments are turning towards using noble liquids as the target choice, liquid xenon and liquid argon for instance, photosensors that can work well at cryogenic temperatures are required, 165 K and 87 K for liquid xenon and liquid argon, respectively. The Silicon Geiger Hybrid Tube (SiGHT) is a novel photosensor designed specifically for use in ultra low background experiments operating at cryogenic temperatures. It is based on the proven photocathode plus silicon photomultiplier (SiPM) hybrid technology and consists of very few other, but also ultra radio-pure, materials like fused silica and silicon for the SiPM. The introduction of the SiGHT concept, as well as a feasibility study for its production, is reported in this paper.

WIMPs are a well-motivated galactic dark matter candidate. Liquid argon (LAr) is an attractive target for the direct detection of WIMPs. The LAr prototype detector is designed to study the technology and property of LAr detector. The prototype detector have an active volume containing 0.65 kg of liquid argon. The liquid nitrogen(LN) cooling system allows the temperature of liquid argon to be maintained at the boiling point (87.8 K) with fluctuations less than 0.1 K. The prototype was calibrated with a Na$^{22}$ source, with the light yield 1.591$\pm$0.019 p.e./keV for the 511 keV gamma rays using the domestic-made argon purification system., Comment: 4 pages, 5 figures
