Transactional data from point-of-sales systems may not consider customer behavior before purchasing decisions are finalized. A smart shelf system would be able to provide additional data for retail analytics. In previous works, the conventional approach has involved customers standing directly in front of products on a shelf. Data from instances where customers deviated from this convention, referred to as "cross-location", were typically omitted. However, recognizing instances of cross-location is crucial when contextualizing multi-person and multi-product tracking for real-world scenarios. The monitoring of product association with customer keypoints through RANSAC modeling and particle filtering (PACK-RMPF) is a system that addresses cross-location, consisting of twelve load cell pairs for product tracking and a single camera for customer tracking. In this study, the time series vision data underwent further processing with R-CNN and StrongSORT. An NTP server enabled the synchronization of timestamps between the weight and vision subsystems. Multiple particle filtering predicted the trajectory of each customer's centroid and wrist keypoints relative to the location of each product. RANSAC modeling was implemented on the particles to associate a customer with each event. Comparing system-generated customer-product interaction history with the shopping lists given to each participant, the system had a general average recall rate of 76.33% and 79% for cross-location instances over five runs.

The corrosion inhibition property of selected small organic compounds was investigated using electrochemical measurements, including potentiodynamic polarization (PDP), linear polarization resistance (LPR), electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), and density functional theory (DFT) calculations. The inhibition efficiency ( IE %) of the inhibitor on mild steel (MS) in 1 M HCl was then determined. Results show that the presence of the inhibitors resulted in decreased corrosion current density ( I corr ) values and increased polarization resistance ( R p ). Furthermore, the use of higher concentrations of inhibitors led to an increased inhibition efficiency. Tafel slopes and shifts in the E corr values suggested that the inhibitors tested are mixed-type inhibitors that form a protective layer on the surface of the substrate. Of the organic compound inhibitors tested, the inhibitor 4-ethylpyridine (EP) exhibited the highest R p values and inhibition efficiency values from the PDP, LPR, and EIS analyses, respectively. DFT calculations showed negative adsorption energies and confirmed the chemisorption of the inhibitors allowing for the formation of a hydrophobic protective film against corrosion and correlations between the quantum chemical values and electrochemical data were demonstrated. The results show the influence of the presence of electronegative O, S, and N atoms, as well as the role of aromatic rings in the promotion of surface protection by preventing aggressive ionic species from binding onto MS., Competing Interests: The authors declare no conflict of interest., (© 2021 The Author(s).)

Background: Instructional methods for teaching medical students to recognize common skin lesions vary widely. There is little published data comparing various teaching methods and their impact on medical student retention of dermatologic knowledge., Methods: Our prospective cohort study analyzed how teaching methods (interactive teaching versus. traditional didactic teaching versus. self-guided review alone) impacted second year medical students' ability to recognize common skin lesions one year after initial exposure to the material. Our study also looked at student satisfaction with different teaching methods., Results: There was no significant difference in long-term retention of knowledge between different teaching methods. However, students preferred the interactive format over the traditional didactic format. Spaced review is important for long-term retention, but an in-class review session two months after content was initially taught provided no added benefit over spaced self-review alone., Conclusions: Medical students are able to maintain long-term retention of dermatologic knowledge irrespective of in-class teaching method. Repeat exposure to material is important but self-review of dermatology alone is sufficient for long-term retention. Dermatology course directors should incorporate interactive teaching into medical school curricula to increase learner satisfaction.
