Abstract

Background and Study Aim. Attention and concentration, fundamental psychological skills, are crucial in situations where the opponent moves rapidly and incessantly. Reaction time is also of paramount importance in winning a game in fencing, which requires both offensive and defensive actions. Understanding the factors that affect reaction time is essential for improving performance. This study aimed to investigate the impact of disruptions in attention and concentration on reaction time in fencing. Material and Methods. Thirty-four healthy male and female fencers participated in two testing sessions. In the initial session, participants filled out a personal information form and took the d2 Attention Test to determine their attention levels. They also completed items representing the concentration disruption subscale of the Sport Anxiety Scale-2 (SAS-2) to measure concentration levels. In the second session, participants underwent the Favero Electronic Fencing Target (EFT-1) test to measure their reaction times. To analyze the obtained data, SPSS 20 was used. The Pearson correlation coefficient between attention, concentration disruption, and participants' reaction times was calculated. Then, linear regression analysis was employed to test whether attention and concentration scores could predict the reaction times. Results. The findings indicated that there is a significant positive relationship between E (r = .603, p < .01), E% (r = .628, p < .01), E1 (r = .584, p < .01), E2 (r = .533, p < .01), and reaction time. Additionally, a significant negative relationship was revealed between concentration performance and reaction times (r = -.456, p < .01). A significant positive correlation was observed between fencers' concentration disruption and reaction times (r = .416, p < .05). Conclusions. Our study results emphasize the importance of attention and concentration in disciplines that require quick reactions. These cognitive factors need to be considered in the development of sports performance.

Abstract

This study aims on the assessment of the situations of tactical orientation of 36 young, elite soccer players born in the years 1999-2000-2001, selected between 2 cities, 6 teams which belong to Cyprus Turkish Football Association (Kıbrıs Türk Futbol Federasyonu) in Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. This study evaluates the aspects in two ways. In order to evaluate the tactical directed situations, specific tactics and creative performance were measured with respect to Game Test. In case 1, Longitudinal design was carried to analyse intra-individual improvements of elite young football players according to football-specific creativity and tactical game intelligence by using a dynamic performance diagnostic tool. In case 2, cross-sectional design was carried in which objective, valid, differentiative enough to record, tactical indicators were created to measure football-specific creativity and game intelligence as a diagnostic instrument. In both of the studies, different evaluation criteria were spotted and with these criteria, players were scored. According to these scores, divergent tactical thinking results has been obtained. The results according to divergent tactical thinking showed that disparate changes were obtained in between the players of KTFF U-21. As a result, the practical implications for the processes of training has been deeply discussed in both cases.

Abstract

The aim of this study is to investigate the effects of Post Activation Potentiation (PAP) on muscular endurance performance. 42 physically active male participants (PAP Group n=32, Control Group n=10) who have at least 1 year of resistance training experience and exercise min. times/week, participated in this study. First testing session were the same for both Control and PAP group. On the first session, 1 Repetition Maximum (1RM) of subjects was found. 65% of the 1 RM was calculated to find the weight that was going to be used for the muscular endurance test. Subjects completed maximal number of repetitions with 65 % of their 1 RM. On the second test session which was done 48 hours after the first session, PAP group did eccentric loading with Bench Press with their 120 % of 1 RM than rest 8 minutes to elicit the effects of PAP. After the resting period, muscular endurance test with 65% of 1 RM and time under tension were recorded. No statistical difference was found between the number of repetitions that were done in the first and the second test session for control group (p>0.05). Whereas significant increase was found for the PAP group (p0.05). As a result of this study, supra-maximal eccentric loading was found to be an effective method to elicit the effects of PAP on muscular endurance. Therefore, PAP protocols in resistance training sessions might be considered to be used for athletes who want to improve their muscular endurance performance.
